This is absolutely not the case. Ironmace had to submit their code for review by an independent body as part of their Korean lawsuit. The courts ruled the code wasn't taken from P3. Normally we'd have no way of knowing but in this case there's no chance the code was taken from P3.

the same principle can apply to code. you can rewrite or restructure code (badly lol) so it isn’t a direct copy, but still use the same underlying ideas, architecture, or knowhow from a previous project.

that’s basically what trade secret law is about protecting confidentil methods or structures not just exact code.
the court didn’t find Iron mace guilty of copying code, but they did rule that Ironmace misused Nexon’s confidential information and know how,which is why theyre paying about $6 million in damages. So even if the code isn’t a direct copy.
it doesn’t mean there was no misuse of proprietary knowledge.

So I do work as a software dev and I can say it's extremely difficult to hide copied code. You can try re-naming variables and making slight changes to structure but it's always still going to get flagged for copyright. You have to actually understand how the code works to avoid the copyright checks in the first place so it'd be moot if they achieved that.

As for the trade secret stuff this isn't specific to coding. For the most part how to write the code couldn't be classified as trade secrets outside of extremely novel cases perhaps where we're dealing with cutting edge advancements like AI. What they're actually talking about with Trade Secrets is stuff like market research and audience sampling. So to give an example if I work at a drinks company and our market analysts do some reports on potential untapped niches in the market that then moves on to the corporate team who will conduct consumer sampling usually with surveys of what kinds of drinks people may like. If the result of all that work is they realise there's a good niche for cream soda and start drawing plans to release that, and an employee of the company hears about it and runs off to start selling Cream Soda, they didn't steal anything about how to make Cream Soda. They may have come up with their own recipe entirely on their own. But the market research that lead them to know to sell Cream Soda in the first place would be the Trade Secret theft.

Bro, I've been playing this game since 2023 and have read a bunch of messages from the developers. They themselves don't know what they want from the game, and often they write it directly in hot fixes. In plain text "we don't know how we're going to develop the game" they don't have a f roadmap like normal developers. Then they write, wow, no one wants to go high roll, then they write, we decided what we want to do so that loot is a priority over fights, then they write, we want to make a very low TTK. And f all the time it all gets cancelled and back and forth again. Some things in the game are removed and Add three times. Some characters are simply nerfed and buffed one and the same. They remove the speed on things, then add it, then remove all the attributes, then return it again, make a zone, remove the zone. They pretend to work all the time. And basic errors, such as lack of registration, arrows getting stuck in the air next to an obstacle, crooked hitboxes, no one ever fixes this. There is a YouTuber Oggieson, he has a video where you can clearly see that blows fly through the block, this was in 2023, this remains in 2025. They always make stupid plugs, stillborn religion, they do not give anything. The multiclass system was added and abandoned, well, you did it as a week-long event, well, leave it as an event for variety. And 0-24 was the only normal fun mode where you can close your eyes to everything and enjoy the combat. The developers seem like adults, but f, you really don't understand that other adults who have jobs and personal lives play the game, I don't need to grind for two hours for clothes and gold, I just want to play. This mode has existed since 2023, but no, now go and grind. F this game, sorry for the long text.
