Former meta-chasers all flock to Barbarian, thinking they’ll dominate

There's no more farming for gear or anything, you can just log on and have some actual fun in the dungeons with decent gear baseline. You actually get to make interesting choices even in the squire now. Do I want to attack fast or run fast ? You can feel the gear now. You find some nice gear? You can just slap it on and send it because most loot at least does something.

There's also no more guessing game with 'is this guy a sweat that hasn't seen the sun in 2 weeks?' because it doesn't matter. You've got a fighting chance against practically everyone now.

This patch is honestly so good, and these last two patches have genuinely rekindled my love for the game

TBH not really the stats and rolls on the gear barely make differences in fights if you do the math it’s a really negligible difference the rolls really make and are most likely not going to change much about your set up like for real the rolls mathematically do not help you in a meaningful way @past lark that’s good I’m happy for new players that get to experience that but that will get old after a bit and not having anything to work for aka building a good set will make you dislike the game and get bored of it I understand it’s fun rn I’m having fun with it but in a week it’ll be old and boring like pulling a legendary piece of armor and leaving it in the dungeon because my uncommon chest piece had a better roll than all four of the legendary piece

The pvp is trash now cause you got no reward, the arena is here for you, only pvp. You got no reward now in pvp cause everyone in squire and you just take the potions. Why risk your kit anyways, you can lose it to squire gear since they removed gear lobby, you will be against squire gear player. Even in HR. PvE give less rewarding gear cause its same base, and rolls now means nothing since they nerfed any survivability rolls and armor, and they took off damage from amulet and stats from ring so it nerfes glass cannon class, only left with stacking stat and high damage weapon : ranger and barb, thats how you have fun in pvp ? No reward, not a good balance, again and again ? Thats boring

The issue is those four bis rolls mathematically will not make someone that is two shot to you and make them a one shot that’s the argument gear is not good enough rn to change a fight your gear is not going to decrease the number of hits it takes to kill someone if someone takes two shots to kill in squire great they will not be one shot in your bis legendary gear and that’s a fact do the math if you’d like that is my argument gear doesn’t actually change the fight anymore no 95% of the player base does not play for pvp lol if they did they’d play chiv or morahdor or however you spell that game they play because it’s a mixture of pvp with pve and loot but looting doesn’t matter anymore

Which is why I hate people trying to invalidate the argument that loot has lost it's meaning when that's the exact same point as not wanting people to gear diff. Either the extraction looter has good loot with pvp as an obstacle or method to obtain the good loot or its not an extraction looter. And instead has turned it into a meaningless blood bath free for all, because looting has lost it's value besides quests.

The issue is, being in squire gear with just green rings/amulets you are now 90-95% as strong as someone in full Legendary. There's so little importance to having better gear, because unless that better gear happens to have several good stat rolls, it's functionally just green gear. Why spend half an hour deep diving into Crypts and killing Ghost King for a couple legendaries that likely will have 1-2 good rolls at best, when you could just kill some goblins or players in top floor and get greens with just as good rolls.

Also, there's very little build crafting now, as since so many stats come from base gear, you can just get the exact build you want every time and no longer have to work to craft the kinds of builds you're dreaming about. Before if you wanted to be a 40 Agility Rogue you'd have to spend good money or look for specific peaces to barely get yourself up there, which made it feel satisfying. Now I can just get that 40 Agi every single game in squire gear.

as rogue or warlock prior to this patch for example, i'd go into a lobby with my white shadow mask and if i saw a purple shadow hood - even though it's a worse base item - I'd consider taking it. but now that the shadow mask and shadow hood have the same base stat regardless of rarity, i'd never pick it up. they've killed variety in gear for SSF players.

Just buff base gear - give it +1 stat, Green gear gets 2 bonuses instead of 1, everything else stays the same . This already helps bridge the Gear gap and makes looting fun again.

I just fought a barb on rogue, I used my hand crossbow with rupture and hit a headshot, landed 2 throwing knives, reloaded and hit him again with hide ambush hand crossbow and then swung into him with my rapier

He then hit me once with a bardiche and I died, we were both in squire kit...

There was already that. All that need to happen was this. For normals create a gear cap of <25 (existed), 25<125 (existed), and 125<225. To your point about casuals… the amount of casual players in this game would be the minority, and finding a balance in which makes the majority and minority happy is extremely difficult. In terms of this patch, keeping the motivation to sell items is, IMO, at an all time low since all gear and weaponry is pretty much identical. Due to this, no one is running gear (aka squire), looting isn’t fun (since all gear is pretty much the same), and the only aspect that this game is holding onto is the pvp for some classes (barb, lock, and ranger). What is the point of an extraction looter when there is no loot to be extracted? I don’t want to play the game to extract with a full inventory of trinkets lol

Honestly seeing what SDF is doing to the game, I can't help but feel that he's completely disconnected from what makes DaD actually appealing to people. I understand that the team likely supports the changes, or are going along with it for testing purposes, but it seems that his individual vision is the single-most contributing factor when it comes to clashes with what the community finds fun in this game. It feels like he's trying to gear this game into Tarkov, where TTK is extremely low and PvP takes precedence over every other aspect of what makes the game unique in the first place. A complete gutting of the rarity system, and then he mentions that he's considering removing random modifiers altogether? Disregarding that very blatant destruction of what makes RPGs fun in the first place, can we at least admit that every time the TTK goes this low it turns people away from the game? The entire reason a lot of people enjoy this particular game is the TTK is long enough for everyone in the fight to engage in some sort of tactic beyond getting the first hit.

I can't take this team seriously if this is the guy who's going to be leading the future of development for Dark & Darker. For every good idea he has, there's at least 3 absolutely terrible ones creeping up right behind it. He'd rather build the game he wants rather than the game we want, and it's unbelievably frustrating as a player to have that sort of selfish design philosophy; it's a complete disconnection from good game design. You can say there's better "skill-expression" now, or that fights are determined by who is better now, and that's completely fine to think and is likely very true. But prioritizing that aspect of the game alone puts every other aspect of the game on the funeral pyre, aspects which a lot of players heavily enjoy. I've been loving this game for the past 4 months I've been playing, regardless of imbalance issues or getting gear-checked. This most recent patch killed any incentive I had to explore, to loot, or to do anything but indulge in PvP because my base kit is free and as good as high-tier gear.

Suffice to say, I don't believe in SDF as a lead designer, and I don't believe in the rest of the team as a whole if this is the kind of design philosophy they want to stand behind. If you can't talk to your lead and tell him when he's making a gigantic mistake, if you're not willing to reign him in when he's about to set a gigantic fire to the project, if you're not willing to take community feedback in earnest and pass that along to the guy who's calling the shots, then what's the point of sharing our thoughts? You all keep saying "trust the process" or "let us cook" but it's becoming increasingly more apparent that the rest of the team has next to no input on what that process is. It all comes down to this singular leader who doesn't understand what makes the game actually fun to play.

This is my biggest issue, by a wide margin. There's other aspects of this game besides pure PvP and winning fights, those other aspects are the ones I enjoyed the most. I grew up on Diablo 2, the entire reason I got into this game was that looting aspect, the exploration, the boss battles, I enjoy the PvE experience and I enjoy finding something special. The devs are some of the worst I've ever seen when it comes to communication with their player base, and to have this instant rugpull of that entire aspect has completely killed most of the fun I was having with this game.

Not entirely true. A legendary is a legendary because of the innate stats it has compared to the lower tier ones. Even it has bunk stats, it’s still better than the rest. And to your second portion of your statement… I’m not sure if you’re trying to say it’s bad to grind for better gear or not… but the whole point of the game, from when I played it in A1, was exactly why I started playing the game. Removing such a feature fundamentally deteriorates the initial concept of the game that was enticed my others and I. I do appreciate that i am no longer stone walled behind gear upgrades, and can experience more of the game. Probably have seen more of the map then (have attempted at every boss now) most in their first few days because of it. Honestly, at this point, I don't even know what they want to go for. At one point, they increase the chances of finding rare items. Then right after they make those rare items essentially pointless. there are ways to make what they introduced in this patch for gear workable and enjoyable, but as it is now is abysmal. They don't have to walk it back necessarily, but they need to do some work to make it feel good.

Ideally, I think that squire gear stays where it is now, or close to it, and then have better gear scale as with what we have now as a base. This would allow us to actually have stats and builds in low GS lobbies and allow for more diverse builds at high GS with extra stat points to spread around rather than just pumping one or two stats. In doing this, also bring back the 25-124 gear bracket.

Closing the gear gap by making base stats by itself and in a vacuum isn't a bad change, and there are ways to make this feel so much better without changing what they gave us this patch for gear. For starters, make weapons have static damage numbers like armor does now, this way a poor weapon can't roll higher base damage than a legendary. Secondly, make the enchantments on loot more impactful. You could make enchantments static per rarity, so a green gives +2 hp and blue gives +3 hp if you happen to get additional hp on both items. You could also just raise the floor and ceiling of enchantments, making them more valuable, and raising the floor higher and higher for each rarity, so a minimum additional hp roll on green would be +2 and legendary +5 where the cap is +5, so legendaries are guarenteed to have the max roll, or at least close to. Lastly, and this goes with both enchantments and making gear feel better to find, remove useless enchantments on gear, like getting Spell Memory on a stiletto or felling axe. Removing entirely useless stats from gear that can't be used by classes that use those stats would remove the horrible feeling of finding entirely useless high rarity gear vs your squire gear. These kinds of changes wouldn't walk back the changes but would also make gear worth finding again.

Now, you are losing players, streamers are moving onto other games, player retention is going down by the day, and the game itself is just not fun anymore. barbs two shot you if you are playing fighter or barb otherwise they oneshot you. Played with a fighter friend earlier and damage checked him. my full kit vs his he had 45% pdr and 120 hp and I one shot him.

Ironmace, the issues with the patch can be summed up with 3 points.

1. You removed all incentives from loot without replacing the incentives. Gear is now meaningless. You turned this game into a battle royale.

2. Lowering the HP pool and reducing armor rating grossly impacts certain classes over others. Ranged classes who were already oppressive can now 1-2 tap other classes because you reduced HP and armor but not weapon damage.

3. What the hell were you thinking when you buffed Barb? Barbs are the least impacted by the HP and armor reduction because their health pool is ridiculous, they do the most damage and you now have them additional armor pen, and they also have the highest move speed at the click of a button. Truly, what were you guys thinking???

My problem with this game right now, is that the next patch isn't going to revert the last patch but it's going to be gear tweaking and we're gonna still be playing this dog shit patch. I really didn't care for the loot patch before this current patch either, I was finding 2-4 Legendary items without much effort and unless the gear was absolute BIS there was zero reason to pick it up, ANY gear with one bad modifier is worthless and it's made this game 100% boring with these last two patches. I was a dedicated Foxhole player for years. Every single update half the community would absolutely lose their shit about either faction balance or not getting the things they wanted or a million other reasons. Lo and behold, the next patch would almost always address those concerns. I am very confident that the final iteration of this game isn't going to retain any of the changes we see in this patch. @rare mesa its how many points you've accrued from escaping. If you escape enough to gain 30 points you'll get a blueshard. The more shards you get the more points you need for the next one though

as a Vet of the game I have to say that this is the stupidest patch ever and is ruining the game. I didn't wake up to today wanting to play DND at all... why? because no longer does it matter for me to gear up and go solo HR and meet people/talk to them and try to solo the bosses. It doesn't matter to PVP and try to get gear anymore, waste of time. I can deal with barb buffs, wizard nerfs, but completety altering the way the game is to such an extreme? Complete combat overhaul. This combat is dated. Content creators love bringing up changes to other aspects of the game that will theoretically raise the skill ceiling but I never hear them bring up the combat in this game. It’s bad. It’s 2024 and we don’t have directional combat? Why is every weapon locked into a cheesy combo? Mordhau players might cringe, but this game has something mordhau doesn’t. An action speed stat. YES there are some weapons in DaD that inherently swing faster than others HOWEVER it’s largely affected by action speed. And maybe unlike mordhau ironmace shouldn’t add feints (I could go either way with this but we all know spam feinting is quite frustrating lol) And if ALMOST every weapon in this game could parry, riposte, collide with other weapons, morph swing into stab etc…it WILL raise the skill ceiling of melee combat (The cheesy bs we have with longsword right now does not count) to the point where, imo, if you die you will know without a shadow of a doubt it was a skill issue. Its either that or melee combat never grows outside of out dps’ing and spacing, which has been since the playtest days. I would argue a change like this would have more of an affect on the game for MELEE combat, than the % balance changes they seem to make every patch between the different classes. To date, these changes seem to do nothing but frustrate people. A change like this would add a significant learning curve to the game (play some mordhau you get used to it, it’s not that bad lbs), however it would also alleviate some of the damage done to other classes in ironmace class balance patches.

Not gonna lie, at this point I feel like Backstep was a mistake. Rangers need better melee potential, not better kiting potential, because if they can kite they won't even bother with melee.

Also Crippling Slot should slow for a LOT longer, but for a much smaller penalty. 40% slow is insane until you realize the one-second duration is so short you don't even accomplish anything, because by the time the next arrow is ready your target has already recovered from that and you've done nothing except lose a bunch of damage

You actually get to make interesting choices even in the squire now. Do I want to attack fast or run fast ? You can feel the gear now. You find some nice gear? You can just slap it on and send it because most loot at least does something.

There's also no more guessing game with 'is this guy a sweat that hasn't seen the sun in 2 weeks?' because it doesn't matter. You've got a fighting chance against practically everyone now.

This patch is honestly so good, and these last two patches have genuinely rekindled my love for the game

I've been playing the game since pt3. I love it. My friends and I play daily almost all wipes. I have around 1400hs. We are not timmys. We are decent gamers. No joke, trust me.

Since the begining, we play mostly normals sub-25. Why? Because we hate the part of the game that is not playing the game.

Every time we go into HR. We die to a BIS team eventually and some of my friens get frustrated by the fact that they have to buy/equip.. etc a new set (we hate the market, its not fun). I Know most of you won't agree with this. But we really enjoy hittinh the play button, have some fun. Fight some dudes in the crypts, parry a few barbs and when we die. Buy pots and bandages. And hit play again. For us. Normals seems fair and fun.

Yesterday, with the removal of HR fee and the gear changes. We spent the day farming HR bosses. Looking for those legendary gems in the gold pile. Having some fun fights. And when we died... throw a few pices of gear that we had been saving and hit play again. Back to the fun.

Thats It. I know the patch is not perfect. Barbs are strong. Bows hurt too much. They will prob lower TTk again... And as they said, the gear changes are not complete.

But I just wanted to let u know that yesterday Me and my friends had fun in HR for the first time.

That being said. I think all these changes should have been tested in the test server, AND should have been added at the begining of next wipe.

Also. I'm surprised by some of the things the community said/did this week. I'm not saiying that I'm disappointed, but I `understand my dad now. we can play hr and bosses without punishment just pressing play and stop being part of hate

This is not a PvP arena fighter it is an extraction game, if you are afraid to lose your loot just go play civ.
