New career mode certainly raises the bar for how good a horse can be, but it still takes a while for that to reflect in Team Trials
I feel I was only a third or maybe halfway through UC before I started seriously working on upgrading my TT team, but it was also then I started fluctuating before Class 6 and 5
In the end, having the cards (even if not MLB) and knowing the new mode is what makes you draw the best stats out of your horse
