Well, like Pipp, she's got an influencer personality. Unlike Pipp though, that's all Candi has so far. When Pipp appears on screen, she could be singing, hanging out with her friends without a phone, helping Ponies with their manes, or plenty of other things. Sometimes she does stream and interact with her fans, to be sure, but she's always genuine about it, and she's more than just her phone. Meanwhile with Candi it's her entire personality. It's night and day between the two of them.

Plus, Candi's emotions often feel fake too. Like, she'll be "afraid" one moment and then immediately pull out her phone and start speaking in a stereotypical influencer voice. It's like she's doing it solely for the likes.

I'm not saying that Candi has to be like Pipp, I'm just using the comparison to highlight how bland Candi is at the moment. I'm sure over time she'll have plenty of chances to grow, but at the moment, from all that we've seen of her thus far, she's my least favorite of the main characters.

To be fair, Pipp didn't leave the best first impressions even when G5's initial debut (A New Generation) released as her characterization within the movie in general was very flat.

Yeah, but Pipp in MYM and TYT very quickly rectified that within the first 30 minutes of each show (which for TYT was six episodes).

for me at least she left a very good impression in ANG, it was just less of one than many of the others because e.g. Zipp joined the good guy squad well before Pipp did

Yeah, same. While I didn't like "Glowin' Up" (and still don't, I stand by my opinion that it's Pipp's weakest song by far), Pipp herself I liked from the very beginning.

Because at that point she was still making a show of herself as being the most "prim and proper" of the two sisters, and then the phone buzz vibrating her in place just completely shatters that mask and reveals her to be a bit of a goof.

(Also, it's amazing how far she's come since that scene. She was so much more haughty in the movie than I remembered her being.)

All I remember of Pipp from the movie was that she was pretty much completely obsessed with her phone and being popular. Basically like a generic influencer, and I found her quite boring because of it. I also thought anything "interesting" about her back then was just the movie's sense of humor, not an actual characteristic.
When I saw the promotional material for Wild Manes, I initially thought Candi would be one of the most interesting of the bunch. But nope, she's also just a generic influencer.

Alright, that was an entertaining episode. :)

Candi still isn't my favorite, but it's kinda funny how they have a Candi-centered episode immediately after I laid out why I didn't like her as a character so far in the show. This episode helped make her a little more fleshed-out, which I do like.

Now we need Bailey to get fleshed out, as well as Finley (assuming they haven't forgotten her).

To be perfectly honest, I never once got a "buy our toys" feeling with anything from G4 (except maaaaaybe Pony Life as a whole, but that's more like G4.5), although I definitely get that vibe with both G5 and Wild Manes.

It's alright. The art style is cute, the characters have great designs, and the stories are simple but entertaining. It's harmless fun.

Only major thing I have against it is the overuse of the "how did we get here" flashback trope. They rely on it way too much and it just wastes precious time in an already very short episode run length.

one thing im interested in is how they're going to develop their characters given the very short length of episodes

i dont feel like they can add much substance to conflicts and resolutions, but i'll be glad if proven wrong

for me the persistent use of not only a single framing device but one that wastes time repeating a whole scene every episode seems like an exceptionally clear signal that they aren't even trying to fit in substantial character development and storytelling into these five minute chunks, they're just following a formula to sell the toys

Something I have started to notice about that show is that there are no background horses. One can only see the characters involved in the story, but otherwise the town is pretty empty.

I feel stupid for not realising sooner that their colour scheme is the non-binary flag.

Also I think it is a clever pun that in an alternative version of the non-binary flag the colour “cosmic latte (averaged colour of all galaxies as perceived by the human eye)” is used instead of pure white, which makes the astronomy connection for this horse even better.
