#Baldur's Gate

oh it seems they may have fixed the crashes
I just tried loading some saves and they didn't crash
I can finally finish the game
I think it's because a class that create spell effects using devices has more of a steampunk/magitech vibe to it, not like that Greyhawk or Faerun don't have those elements but they are much less prominent than Eberron and they probably want to keep the base vibe of D&D as fantasy
That'd be my guess as to why
looks at Baldur's Gate 3
is quite literally part sci-fi, part magitek, part steampunk, part biopunk, part fantasy kitchen sink, and it's ALL in line with official D&D rules, guidelines, and lore
Yeeeeeeeeah, I'm not buying that at all.
Gnomes can literally make their own little steampunk inventions as part of their class features
Mechanical arms exist in Faerun
As I said, it's about keeping the base vibe
If you make a core class you are expected to be able to do so at any table barring some exceptions.
In some campaigns and groups it's fine to show up with the artificer and it doesn't matter, in some I can definitely see it'd clash with the vibe of the whole thing
Do I even need to explain the mechanical steampunk constructs roaming the city of Baldur's Gate?
I get that there's a vibe with some campaigns, but to say that artificers don't fit in with Faerun (like so many people do, not saying you are) is just dumb.
Also there is the argument of trying to keep the various settings distinct.
If every setting has the same things at the same distribution, why even have multiple settings
Not saying it works perfectly, especially in a game as open ended as D&D you can homebrew whatever
You can still have every setting be distinct and yet have people crossing over into said setting from a different setting (it happens a lot with multiversal travel) with stuff from their own setting.
Anyway, the point is that artificers deserve to be officially considered a core class of the game. They practically are in the eyes of almost every player.
astarion--not the strongest of your companions, but probably the most likely to throw a cat
Perfect comment
Apparently Karlach is strong enough to throw Shadowheart, if the comments under that can be believed.
And there's also dialogue for every person you throw.
I should try throwing enemies around whenever I decide to play again.
I killed a duergar by throwing his buddy down a ladder at him.
I was about to say, someone bothered to make an animation for a being-picked-up cat
did they do that for every possible shapeshift form?
The others are slightly bigger
Patch 2 is just around the corner, and while it does include bug fixes, it also includes substantial performance improvements for the first time since launch. Perhaps more notably, we’re adding better closure to the story’s final act in the form of a more fleshed-out ending for Karlach - something many of you have been asking for.
Withers’ Wardrobe of Wayward Friends - which we hope to launch very soon - is an example of us integrating your feedback. This feature allows you to get rid of co-op party members who join your campaign, so you can continue on without them. We’re also working on the ability to change your characters’ look once you’ve started a campaign, though we don’t have a release date for that yet. There will be more and you can expect us to come with modding support at some point too.
There's a long bit about "cut content," where they explain that some stuff was cut because they felt it didn't fit the story or slowed things down. They're revisiting the "slowed things down" bit to add more epilogues back, like for Karlach. Other stuff that took the story in the wrong direction they're likely to just leave out, but are taking on feedback on how to fill some of the gaps players have pointed out.
I'm finding myself just storing anything blue rarity and above in my camp rather than trying to get money from it
"Wait, I have something for this!"
goes back to camp, change wardrobe superman-in-telephone-booth-style
Also, good lord Karlach
The blade alone would be bigger than any of the short races

Ooh. This is a nice weapon for Wyll
Also jesus christ Cull The Weak is so good if you ||go full illithid powers||
...Yeah, it's super good

Computer science joke
What do you call a speedrun where you find the shortest path to romancing a vampire?
|| A*-ion% ||

sometimes these things happen
Yeah, saw a Reddit post the other day that asked "Why is everyone so vocal about fixing Minthara suddenly?"
And the response was "Everyone played Good the first time through, now they're starting an Evil playthrough and want their waifu."
Picked up ||Jaheira|| to add to my camp. Looked up build guide on the site i've been following and it's the same as Halsin's. So now I have this mental image/movie in my head of two bears/animals, or rather the growls and roars off screen with bashing and ripping noises like you hear in cartoons
With my character just

I did reroll ||Jaheira into a ranger for a bit because didn't want to have 2 druids, until i actually recuited a ranger so i turned her back into a land druid||
Meanwhile, parkour Gith
She is kinda ||ranger as the vibe goes, maybe if I wanted to really use her a bunch I'd have done a druid ranger multiclass, just for variety||
Something like 5 Ranger 7 druid
My group is pretty locked in as is so i'm just messing around at this point
She ||(Jaheira) was a fighter/druid multiclass in BG1 and 2, rangers didn't exist in that edition||
So interesting discovery. That weapon I got earlier, the summon I got for it is reaaaaaally strong. As in, it has a three target fire beam that can be used each turn
Second, NPCs seem to react adversely to it and also possibly the fire elemental I had summoned. Kept saying "You don't belong here" and some running until I had unsummoned both (elemental last so it might just be the elemental)
yup. Summons suck ass in this game because of this
That makes no sense. I get that undead are seen as evil so you shouldn't bring them in town, but what's wrong with some of the other summons?
especially noticeable in act 3
also the cambion's fire spell has a pretty low spell dc so it will miss a lot
It was doing okay so far, might've just been lucky
I did use hold person + level... 5 or 6? fire on someone
At point blank range
Something like 70-80 damage
act 2->3 spoilery stuff: I ||accepted partial ceremorphosis||... wonder if I am going to regret this decision
||Flight is badass||
||I think I need to get the rest first. But that cone stun thing looks great already based on how often they've used it against me
||
The ||reactions are also pretty awesome||
||Of teammates or others? Haven't talked to them yet. I'm surprised I didn't see a disapprove notification||
No I mean the ||powers you can use as reactions||
Like the one that counters a spell
Oh right
Yeah I think I got most of those? I think about 2-3 on the left I didn't fully get yet
Ah. ||absorb int, displacer beast, fracture psyche, mind sanctuary, fly|| is what i didn't take
Couldn't in the case of the last

||Time for Circus Astarion||
Ah yes. (act 3 stuff) ||Taking in a random kid that i gave food to at the entrance to the city. I'm 99% sure it's the shapeshifter....||
Pfft

Does it have crossplay?
The save should be cross compatible, yes.
I meant ps5 player with PC player in same game
Oh, that I'm not sure.
Will baldurs gate 3 get crossplay?
Sadly, the answer is no, Baldur's Gate 3 does not have crossplay.
So saves are cross-compatible, but you can't mix between PC & PS5 players together
Yeah. In my case, I can just switch machines if someone wants to play with me, but it's going to mean people who only have one are stuck with that group.
On another note, I played briefly last night and holy crap the Storm Sorcerer ability to fly briefly after casting a spell is amazing.
Patch #2 for Baldur's Gate 3 is live!
Along with performance improvements and UI tweaks, we've added a new epilogue scene for Karlach, and are working on additional endgame scenes featuring other characters.

Perfect, I was just about to get back to playing this game today
Hopefully act 3 will be a lot smoother now
Wow, they're on a roll
That means Patch 2 should hit preload for PS5 if we're lucky.

Act 2->3 stuff: I don't know if it was just a matter of fantastic timing or done on purpose, but I was talking to Karlach ||after the Emperor's tadpole thing and the piano part of the camp music started playing when Karlach gave her super heartfelt explanation why she wasn't going to do it|| and it just made the whole thing that much stronger

If you dismiss your companion to camp and shove them into a chasm, Withers will now be able to resurrect them... so you can shove them into a chasm again, probably.
||One of your camp is a faceless|| I KNEW IT
WTF ||Volo|| is in the Grove? He wasn't last time. Maybe I screwed up by Long Resting before going deeper in.
Yeah long resting moves the plot forward

Okay, yeah, I'm getting a lot more interactions than my first playthrough. Gonna have to be more careful about my rests.
Plus side, I also leveled up a lot faster than my first playthrough.
Yeah, he was in the very center of the Grove talking to a bear. You must've missed him entirely (just like how I missed the Tiefling bard entirely and was then confused as to why she seemed to know me personally while all the refugees were celebrating in my camp).
Yeah, he wasn't there on my first playthrough.
That's odd
I literally just met her. She wasn't there either on my first playthrough.
Then again, I was genuinely terrified of long-resting for a stupid amount of time because I thought that Larian had made a time limit before you turned into a squid kid.
Nah, she's apparently there at the Grove, but in a spot that's sequestered away from everyone else. There's a little hidden path leading up from the central Grove area that goes up a small mountain/spire, and she has a small tent there where she's practicing.
There's also some harpies back there
Yeah i didn't go back there until after rescuing Halsin. Which meant she was gone and the harpies ||had killed someone back there||.
I also didn't know about the bugbear assassin that goes after || the tiefling at the telescope up the hill in front of the grove||, so all I found there was a corpse.
I found the bugbear assassin by accident, lol. I was actually going up the back way up that hill, but the combat started while I was at the bottom so the scout died, so I reloaded and went up the other way and managed to kill the assassin.
Damn scout still treated me like shit anyway and didn't give so much as a thank you for saving her.
There's a lot of missable stuff around the druids and it can be hard to save everyone unless you know stuff ahead of time.
I missed the harpies but I got to the bugbear thing on time

Hm. Saved the kid, but can't talk to him
"In Baldur's Gate, you don't stuff the bear, the bear stuffs you............if you're lucky."

Also, Gale's VA looks exactly like him.
The most unexpected to me is Karlach
Hm. I also can't talk to Mattis, the coin trick kid.
I hope someone makes like a list of all the events that are missable because of long resting
I think someone will make a perfect list at some point. There are some npcs you can save if you get creative.
Dragonborn look like such goofy cinnamon rolls when they smile and I love it.
This sounds like one of those movies where the hero turns back time every time in the attempt to try to save absolutely everyone
(Funnily enough the first that comes to mind is groundhog's day)
Oops, got myself thrown in jail, and I sent Astarion back to camp already with all my lockpicks.
reloads

Went back to the beach, still couldn't talk to the kid, but at least the quest auto-completed.

Yeah, we were discussing that earlier
Ah right.
... okay, the ~~preorder ~~ Twitch clothes appear to give my dragonborn girl... "Advantage."

Is this a bad thing?

Also, where did you get the Twitch clothes?
Specifically, how?
No, just surprised that this one item does not respect the character model.
Oh yeah, those were a Twitch drop not a preorder
dragonborn women have bras for some reason
I wonder if they had boobs at one point and it got replaced late
Larian might've thought they were too confusing or might send a bad message.
Its the argonians all over again

Performance in the city has not gotten any better
Ooh they have made some great ui changes
There's more information about your bonuses and stuff and it's snappier
for instance, eldritch blast now shows the agonizing blast bonus

Ventured into the Swamp, now every NPC has a yellow outline and it's tanking my FPS. Tried killing the hag to see if that would fix it and no. Still felt good to kill her, but...
press the tilde key
Ah! Thank you. ANother feature I didn't know existed.
I didn't know why all my npcs had outlines either for the longest time
until once I tapped it by accident and noticed what it did
Did none of you read the controls in the menu?
Am I the only one who does anymore?
(Seriously, the amount of people who I know and who I've seen who absolutely refuse to look over control menus in games or even read building manuals for furniture is staggering.)
If you mean the Keybinds, even if I read it, I would forget it within a week.
honestly, sometimes this game's dialogue is on point
I finish this battle, Gale is walking back to me, somehow he triggers a oil barrel which explodes and hits him and he's like 'let's consider that an accident, shall we'?
"Sometimes"? The dialogue is one of the game's strong points. Every piece of it is fantastic.
well, particularly on point
I think hero's feast is my favorite spell
minutes in my case; sometimes I look at controls when initially setting up a game, but if I've never played the game before most of it means nothing to me yet anyway
wait whaaaaaaat?
am I reading this wrong or does this let you cast cantrips twice??
Well, let's say you're using eldritch blast. I think what this thing means is that it doubles how many shots you can fire, but you have to choose a different target for that doubled amount.
ugh of course it's once per short rest
Yeah, so perfect for Wyll or another warlock.
true. Not bad for a warlock
byt Wyll has gloves which give him 18 dex though
I kinda want that AC
But yeah, most magic items that give benefits like these are once per short or long rest. That's just how D&D works, I'm afraid. The only exception being charged abilities, which can be used multiple times, but have to regain those charges on a short or long rest, and even then they might not regain all of them at once so you need to be tactical about it (or your DM could homebrew it where you regain all of them, but that's up to them).
Open a chest in the middle of nowhere, locked, contains just a letter...
Fuck you game

MONK POWAH
Ranged mob uses hamstring shot on me. Deflect missiles reduces that to 0. Deflect missiles happens a second time so I throw it back at them. Does 22 damage and 2 psychic, which was enough to trigger cull the weak
So they shot at me once, and died
Well if it works as it's written it'd actually just add one ray to Eldrich Blast
As in, target one additional creature
It might not work that way tho and just let you double the eldrich blasts.
If it doesn't however, it'd let you double firebolt or other cantrips so it'd be pretty strong for those
I already have gloves that let me cast a cantrip as a bonus action
I can still keep these and swap them out when I've used those
I still think it's kind of annoying how DNS locks all the fun stuff behind rests

this spell is busted as fuck

Played a little bit early this morning. After getting my ass kicked trying to kill drow lady in the goblin camp, because I forgot about the drums, I positioned everyone so that Shadowheart would destroy the drum on Turn 1. That resulted in the goblin in that area climbing up next to her and basically pinning her down.
After a few rounds (and killing the drow) I got the bright idea and ... had Shadowheart pick up the goblin and throw him down the steps, right in front of Karlach.

Forget the items, in act 1 don't miss the Tiefling Bard's song.
I missed it the first time through. Glad I found her this time around.
Also the first time, i didn't recruit Karlach until after the Tieflings had left the Grove, so I completely missed a part of her questline. I understand you can pick it up later, but still.
I think I also got her after clearing the goblin camp. Had Laezel instead. I somehow didnt miss the bard. The poor Harpy kid though...
Heck I found Astarion after Karlach
Saw him super early, decided to explore somewhere else first, forgot all about him until much later
Ha. My Ranger figured out what Astarion was going to pull, and beat him to it. My Sorcerer got blindsided and had to talk her way out of it.
Although my Sorcerer apparently didn't pick the right options to get the Bard to ||teach her how to play an instrument||.
the motion capture for minsc is off the hook
Looking forward to meeting him.
mfw I lose my whole play session due to... something party killing me
Oh yikes
Withers: "what hath killed thee?"
Tav: "Punctuation?"
Withers: "Thou art beyond my help"
the combat log only listed "."
For the tiefling bard, if you ask for an instrument to accompany her, and roll well enough, you get proficiency with music instrument
Which has very little practical applications but it's neat
Can be neat if you are in the "I really want this for role play reason but I don't want to play bard" situation

act 3 spoilers:
okay finally the music is getting good. This theme song and fight was INSANE and I got literal goosebumps when I heard ||raphael|| start singing all disney villain style

Yep, that whole area and the climax with that song was my favourite part of the game
I went ||of course you'd sing your own theme song, you dramatic motherfucker||
Yeah, hahah. It was a genius idea though
Honestly ||Raphael|| is one of the coolest characters in the game and I loved all the times when he decided to show up

the writers absolutely NAILED his character and writing and the VA just killed it with his voice and body language
NGL I am pretty curious to know what happens if you ||do give him the crown, I will definitely try it in one playthrough||
he's easily the coolest villain in the whole game
oh yeah, I'm definitely curious about that too
I wonder what happens if you ||accept his deal|| in act 1
I don't think ||you straight up can accept it in act one, it's more of an introduction there||
oh really? I thought I had the option to, but maybe the game wouldn't allow you anyway
It's probably a bit to gauge favourability ||of it with your companions and express interest or disinterest for it||
I will say though, globe of invulnerability is an insanely busted ass spell
it made what is meant to be one of the hardest fights in the game into a walk in the park
literally just pop that down, put haste on wizard and warlock and proceed to blast everything without worrying about a single thing
the ai is also kinda stupid and will just let you abuse that spell
That fight was very difficult for me because the party just didn't have space for Gale for me
can't you just pop it down with a spell scroll?
it will be funny if I'll be able to just abuse this spell until the end of the game
You gotta ||Bring Astarion, it's an heist, you have to have the rogue, gotta bring Karlach, we are going to Avernus, and gotta have Shadowheart||
I don't think I had a scroll for it
1 for sure I ate it to teach it to Gale
what's crazy is that I essentially have 4 level 6 spell slots per long rest. 1 by default, 1 from the arcane recharge thing gale has, 1 from my staff which allows me to cast any spell for free, and I have a second staff with the same ability which I can swap out
unfortunately yeah, that's what I've been doing DX
I have a million potions
I have some extremely strong elixirs and potions and I keep thinking "nah I can do without this for now, better save it for the harder fights"
narrator: the harder fights never came
I have like 11 potions of speed (free haste)
I am trying to be better about using them, but scrolls especially, I have been forgetful about
I have a whole bag full of arrows, a bag full of potions of all kinds, a bag full of scrolls
and I never use any of them
oh yeah and oils too
and I have a bag full of alchemy ingredients which weighs 50kg
and I never made a single potion with them
I keep thinking "damn, I might need this"
Arrows is the one consumable I have been diligent, probably because I have a good bow on my main so I did put good magic arrows in my bar.
You see, as a barbarian I have to attack something every turn or lose my rage, this was a problem up until the end of act 2 since movement was limited and melee wasn't always an option.
In act 3 ||I accepted partial ceramorphosis and could fly so no one was safe, I was a flying machine of death||
I decided not to accept it
but I did get that armor which lets you fly and put it on Gale
funny how Gale is now my tankiest character (at least AC wise)
well, he's on par with shadowheart now
I mean I always had 12 meters movement and dash on a bonus action so I was always very mobile, in act 3 it just became absurd.
You thought you were fine on a ledge the opposite side of the fight? Think again, this raging flying barbarian is next to you now and it is personal, she is mad specifically at you
she's mad at you for being so far back
That's me and my monk at the moment
Who also has cull the weak and OH FUCKING BOY
smack with spear You're not dead? Okay. smack with fist. Oh your mind collapsed. Hee.
Which was hilarious to see when I was using those two swords. 'cause it seemed to proc it per swing and cull the week does that shockwave like animation
So it was smack BWAAAAAM smack BWAAAAM
from what y'all are saying it feels like the illithid powers make the game ridiculously easy
considering I'm currently not even struggling without them
Maybe not ridiculously easy but a couple of them are definitely strong
so i just found a tweet that shows a nsfw scene with Astarion... obviously won't link it but it's hilarious. ||Astarion tells you to kneel. The Tav kicks him in the balls instead, Astarion obviously gets mad and permanently leaves the group
||

He added the horniness "wasn't intended... especially Gale. [He] wasn't supposed to be like, instantly there".
I feel that, man, Gale couldn't be contained
In more ways than one!

This headline had me dying.
Is that a reference to Avatar?

It only happens if you talk to him as a monk
Naturally
Hahahahahahahaha

What’s great is that the cabbage VA is reprising his role as the cabbage salesman in the live action Avatar series and I just cannot wait for that

Hotfix #5 is now live for BG3 on PC & PS5!

I was wondering what that 1.4 Gb patch I just saw was.
Hope it fixed a lot of bugs.
You should long rest a lot in act 3
Lots of quests don't advance unless you long rest
And some can break if you advance the story without long resting in between
I was testing romances in Act 2 and found if you don't long rest enough before Act 3 you will get locked out of all romance.
I think the general vibe is people don't log rest enough in BG3.
The game doesn't want you to not long rest, there are like, a couple of events that get triggered if you long rest too much but it's like very very rare, it's much more common to break a quest because you didn't trigger the appropriate events because of long resting too little
but you wanna do the presses quest before resting at all though
There are times when long resting will trigger timers but it isn't always.
there are quite a few events that are missed or ruined if you long rest before checking them out
Well in BG3 there's outright the ||beheading of the councillor in 5 days|| sooo
I can think of two quests total that get influenced by it
But I would agree they don't do enough to show when long resting is acceptable or when it is bad.
And gale ||blowing up if you don't ress him within 3 long rests||
There's really a lot of missable stuff in the game, I'm sure someone will make a long perfect run guide.
Ooooo, Minthara's a paladin.
Well that's dumb. She's batshit insane and joining up with her basically locks you out of everyone else except maybe Asterion.
My impression is that a "perfect run" in this game is relative. It's not possible to see everything in one run by virtue of having to make story decisions that have broad impact
great
new patch released and the first thing I encounter upon trying to play the game? That's riiiiiiiiiight
craaaaaashes
more crashes!
lovely
I'm not joking ||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Tf89ZE6I4||
In Baldur's Gate 3 RPG Game we attack Gale and end his life . Gale turns into his spectral form and wars us to revive him . This is part of the rpg game called baldur's gate 3 on pc .
Baldur's Gate 3 is a role-playing video game developed and published by Larian Studios. It is the third main game in the Baldur's Gate series, which is based on...
they need to stop releasing patches
A shame that there's no big boom, just a plain game over screen.
I wish steam let you roll back patches
This one fixes Minthara for the super evil players.
I honestly didn't know that you could do an evil paladin. Like, I know about oathbreakers and the path of vengeance, but I always thought that paladin players were usually good or at least neutral.
So I suppose that's cool
Still, it's a shame that the only paladin party member you can recruit is an evil asshole.
||Blowing up the factory also kills all the prisoners if you didn't save them and the Duke was one of them thus killing him.||
Paladins being lawful good are a thing of the past, as long as you stick to your oath you can maintain being a Paladin.
Although Oath of Vengences would be impossible for an evil paladin.
And if you be a paladin yourself, the only way you're gonna get into certain places is if you take the obviously evil Asterion with you, and if you do that, you have to drop someone else who would make combat and roleplaying much better (Karlach, Wyll, Shadowheart, or Gale).
Minthara is an Oath of Vengeance evil paladin.
welp, I can't play the game again. Time to wait for them to patch the patch... AGAIN
I swear, next time I am just not going to install the latest patch
See that doesn't work because she would need to kill Absolute on sight.
well not really
Well, she's an Oath of Vengeance evil paladin anyway.
It might not fit her backstory or theme very well, but it fits her style of doing things to a T.
I think the reasoning for Minthara is more the whole brainwashing applies her oath in a different direction ||hence the heel turn and such later when freed. ||
Oaths in BG3 can be inconsistent anyways. Ignoring vampires does break your oath but having ||Asterion|| around is okay.
You can murder most Absolute without penalty but some will trigger an oath break.
You don't need to spoiler Asterion's name, literally everyone knows he's a vampire. It's on the game's promotional art.
also paladin of Lolth makes things all over, a paladin needing to end evil where you see it, but what is evil to an evil god.
because they changed it for bg3 where it's more about the oath then the god
God damnit Dammon, no discount for a friend?
I mean, i can afford it, but that's like 60% of what I have :X
How is it 60%? I had like 40K gold by the time I reached the cursed town in Act 2. Maybe even more.
I haven't been picking absolutely everything and i've been throwing most blue and above items in my camp lockbox rather than selling
Remember when you gave my many weapon'd Karlach a quote? "Hang on, I got something for this..."

Well, now that's just cheating for the enemy.

I confirmed that if you let the owlbear mother live, then go to the goblin camp, the cub is being held prisoner there. Go back to the cave, you discover the goblins swarmed & killed her while you were gone. 😦
Also, I keep getting frickin Bard items this playthrough.
turns out if you have the cub come to your camp, you can actually grow it to a full size owlbear in act 3, but I haven't figured out how yet...

First one on the 16th!

Lol
Apparently killing the hobgoblin boss in the goblin camp was noticed by the guards, I got the entire frickin camp mad at me. Soon as I walked out of the room I got swarmed. Managed to win still.
Rested, had the party, started romancing Shadowheart. She's so frickin' cute.
Then went into the spider caves, they tore me up pretty bad, more than I expected. Had to rest again to get ready to go clear the outside of the camp, so I can go into the Underdark (forgot to unlock it before leaving).

Yeah, killing one goblin boss will alert the other two and the entire camp. There is no way to do it stealthily.
You can kill the wandering guards and some of the more isolated goblin groups stealthily though
It makes it much easier to clear out the inner ruins
use disguise self, become goblin, kill goblin boss, induce civil war
But that still leaves the huge mess of goblins outside, which can be a tough fight if you're not prepared for it.
Actually, last time I managed to kill each one without setting off the camp.
Or each other.
This time, I managed to kill the drow lady without the other two realizing.
I think my downfall was a patrolling goblin happened to get close enough to see me down the last goblin in that area, so it alterted the rest.
Okay, thinking about it... with the drow, as long as you nuke the Eye, that would prevent it calling for help.
I got the goblin priestess the first time by ||letting her drug me, then breaking out of the prison cell & killing her in her own chambers||, and then the hobgoblin. So that's probably the difference.
In today's episode we tackle inexplicable pronunciations, amateur opticians and hitherto unknown levels of maturity.
These are brilliant

Welcome to another episode of Morgana Evelyn's Baldur's Gate 3 content. In this episode we turn ourselves into an Owlbear and build a mighty tall tower towards the skybox of the game! We then crush our enemies using our thiccness and cuteness of our Owlbear druid form at level 6! Join me on my little fun adventure in Faerun.

Yeah, I learned yesterday that apparently one of the cheese strategies is to shapeshift into an owlbear and then just fucking jump down onto enemies, dealing massive damage to them.
Drop(owl)bear
And make the owlbear giant too for even more damage.
It's videos like these that make me love Larian Studios even more. Out of all the video game developers in the world, they seem the most genuine and dedicated, even beating out the likes of Mojang by miles and miles.
And as for Baldur's Gate 3, I think that if they continue to fix all the bugs and UI issues and continue to add QoL improvements based on player feedback, it could rival D:OS 2 as my absolute favorite CRPG ever. As it stands, it's still an excellent game that I love playing a lot, it just needs some work still.
Hotfix #6 is now live for Baldur's Gate 3 on PC & PS5!

@quick bobcat Oh Merc~ :P

Very small patch
how many hotfixes before the game stops crashing every time
- Fixed an issue preventing you from starting a new dialogue.
- Fixed in-game tutorials not popping up at the correct time on the controller interface.
- Fixed visual artefacts in an Underdark dialogue.

Act 3 question for folks: ||just got a second stone, had the brain shake the place again and emperor say 'we must hurry and get the third'. Is there a hidden time limit here or just flavor text?||
I'm pretty confident ||it's flavour text, that said, I had already done most of what I wanted when I got the 2nd so I didn't wait as much||
||I still have cazador, diabolist, the steel factory and the fireworks place||
Ngl, it'd be cool if we had the option to switch between the normal narrator and the "harsher" narrator, solely for fun.
Never gonna happen though
Scarrator <--> Normal Narrator <--> Pinkie Pie what are you doing in my DnD game?
Wait so you actually CAN get a portrait from that guy??

Oh good, people who missed these can get them!
Unfortunately, I don't have a favorite streamer, nor do I have a Twitch account.
You don't have to actually watch, muting the tab on chrome still counts
Yes, but don't you need a Twitch account first?
You do, and need to link it to the larian account too i believe
If you've got an Amazon account, you have a Twitch account.
...Huh, TIL.
Yeah, Amazon bought them out years ago and integrated the account management.
And if you have amazon prime, you have twitch prime which gets ou a lot of free games or ingame content too

HMMM. This ain't right.
I am two floors above the person casting and there's no line of sight... yet they can target
I've run into bugs like that too in Act 2. I was fighting some people in the cursed town's toll house, and they were able to target me through the roof...even though they weren't near any holes, and I couldn't target them.
Act 3 spoilery stuff: || this is the fireworks building||

Walls and closed windows and no one can see me. Yet a bunch of people saw me pick up something/stealing while inside the building

Ooooo...apparently there is a mod called Fantastical Multiverse which unlocks 54 other races to play as! Genasi, Minotaurs, Firbolgs, Kobolds, Aasimars, and even Changelings! https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/215?tab=description
I wanna see ponies in BG3. Not D&D-adjacent nor thematically appropriate in the least bit, but that's why I want it
because it's silly
Ngl, that'd be pretty weird but also pretty cool. It'd be the MLP game we never asked for but, at least for some of us, always secretly wanted. :P
And I mean, c'mon, Fallout Equestria exists. The crossovers must continue
I can see it working if such a pony mod actually commits to it. Like it goes ham with good models and animation, pony magic, unicorn lasers, giant rainbow beams of friendship. And possibly voice acting too, somehow
Ponyfinder exists for real D&D
One of my chars is a warlock who has off-brand celestia and luna as twin patrons
This is a funny Astarion scene unique to Rangers that you can get in Druid's Grove.

Voice acting would be the easy bit, by comparison. Making good models, animating them, figuring out how to put them into cutscenes... that would be the hard part.
No to mention some issues with things like spell animations for non-unicorns.

act 3 big spoilers: god damn, ||making astarion ascendant gives him a massive advantage score. I seemed to struggle to have advantage against enemies but now it's all the time||
making him ||ascendant is insane, he gets some mad buffs||
...Yes. I think I just found it.
I decided not too
because I'm going for the semi good guy playthrough
but goddamn
it was a hard choice
Yeah that's what i'm kinda doing too, and shadowheart and karlach disapporoved but ||looking at my approval rate with them, it's like going from 99% to 95%

I suspect i'll see repercussions in the epilogue though~
I wasn't even looking at the reprecussions, just as a moral choice

So someone on twitter with about 21k follows just discovered cabbage man in BG3. I then posted a reply with my screenshots of cabbage man's reply if you're a monk
It's seeing a bit of traffic
So, according to a comment I read, all the companions have lines for vicious mockery if you reroll them into Bard class. And Astarion apparently has phenominal lines.

That's super cool
I haven't even played BG3 but Karlach is already my favorite character from what ive seen
100 lbs

@desert dove I have a question regarding the Twitch drops. Since I have an Amazon account I apparently have a Twitch account, but do I actually have to subscribe to a streamer before I can get the twitch drops, or do I just need to watch someone for two hours to automatically unlock the drops?
(Speaking of which, apparently JoCat, who's the streamer I chose, is using a mod that allows him to use all the origin characters in combat. Or at least, I think he is. That's sooooo cool.)
Nope, you don't have to subscribe. Just go to Twitch, connect your Twitch/Amazon account to your Larian account. Then find a streamer who has Drops enabled for the correct game, and watch the appropriate amount of time. Then you switch over to the Drops page and click the Claim button.
Um, silly question, but for the Twitch integration it requires me to sign into Twitch, not Amazon, and for that I need a username. I thought you said they were both the same thing?
Oooooh, you think I have Amazon Prime, that's apparently what gives the Twitch account, not a regular Amazon account.
In any case, it should hopefully be connected now.

F`ck. They only allow you to get the Twitch loot if you're in-game and actually claim it. That would require that I uninstall D:OS 2, reinstall BG3, load up a save file, pray that it isn't corrupted, and then claim it.
And I can't do it after I complete my run of D:OS 2 first, it has to be done before the 22nd.
I think once you claim it on the twitch website, it gives you a code or sends the data to the linked account
So once you have claimed it on twitch you "have" it and can add it later at your leisure
Didn't the girlfriend of shadowheart's VA say she is starting to simp shadowheart more than the VA?
Yep
Pretty sure that was a troll post.
Well, I've created a new character for BG3 while I wait to get the Twitch drops (I've claimed them, but they're taking a while to get into my inventory it seems). She's a Tiefling Oath of Vengeance Paladin, which is very different from my original rogue, and it's gonna be interesting seeing the interactions between the group, seeing as half the group is evil-aligned, lol. As for the performance...
It's bad. Way worse than when I first played. The cutscenes are slowed to a crawl, the tutorial moves at like 20 FPS, and the courser moves slower too. It used to be smooth and quick. Once I get the Twitch drops, I'm gonna wait until the game is muuuuuuuch more stable before I play again.
The Twitch drops go into your camp chest.
I did see today that the larian boss said they're working on xbox/pc optimization some more and that we'd be "surprised"
Saw this art and thought i should share it here
https://vxtwitter.com/StillSundazed/status/1700984306431406571?s=20
Ooooooh, okay. It doesn't really make that clear on the Twitch notification, it just says that it "gets deposited into your inventory".
I think for this next character I'm gonna play things a little differently. I'm gonna kill Asterion the minute he tries biting me in camp (because that's what an Oath of Vengeance paladin would do), and I'm gonna take Gale in my party instead of Shadowheart.
So I ||disabled the factory without using the bomb||. Which made me curious as to how powerful it was. I was in front of Sorcerous Sundries when I decided to test this.
(It was big)
It was in DOS2? Huh, I don't remember this. But yeah, it's in act 3
Yeah, four sisters owned the shop, one sister for each act.
It was a gift bag feature though, added much later after the original release.
THat may be why i don't remember it
Man, Laezel's redemption arc as you go through the game is pretty great
(though I wonder if you can keep her evil throughout, as an evil character yourself
)
oh woops now i get why you posted that, i linked the wrong video
||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx0l475zl9M|| this is the video with spoilers I meant to link
Well that a) didn't work and b) wasted a nat 20
big act 3 spoilers:: ||getting Hope out of the house of hope. I managed to nat 20 and convince Yurgir to join me. I also noticed how Hope has "divine intervention" and had her use it to do a meganuke on everything... but Raphael has "punish divinity" which I didn't read, and it instakilled Hope. So I reloaded
and couldn't roll the nat 20 again||
The amount of times a mob survives with 1 hp (without being undead) is utterly infuriating
All turned out well!
Heading to bed, but question for those folk who have finished the game/act 3: ||Did you free orpheus? I kinda wonder what the effects would be here, and whether to trust the emperor and whatnot. Not asking for a full on spoiler, just what you chose||
@heavy hound Hey, how does using the Illithid powers change the dialogue of the story and the ending (if you've made it that far)? If the answer to that question is too spoilery can you please DM the answer to me?
I was thinking of having my second playthrough be quite a bit different. Not only am I going with a female Tiefling paladin this time (who has...very limited perception, wisdom, and intelligence), but I'm also thinking of romancing Karlach and considering the Illithid powers. I just want to know if using those powers will f*ck anything up too much for the story.
Oh my god
I also found it hilarious that you could ||go along with Harlep's request and when he/she lets you ask any one question, you can ask if Raphael is any good in bed||
also the fact that ||Raphael only sleeps with someone who was made to look exactly like himself||
It's definitely perfect character writing
Whoever had that idea, should pat themselves in the back
We now know what the narrator meant when "Larian! You're filthy!"
Welcome to D&D.
Oh right about this, trying to keep it spoiler free, I don't think anything is forced on you, but it opens certain choices going forward
Like, I did extensive use of them ||and was mostly asked if I wanted to delve deeper, which I did, and by the end of it I underwent full metamorphosis, by choice||
I think if you unlock them it becomes ||harder to refuse to go into partial metamorphosis without destroying the means to do so forever, since save is required to accept the thing but not use it, and I feel that the save becomes higher and higher depending on how many powers you have||
I am almost here... still need to get my STR up for the damage...
This is me
Ah, they got quest rewards I didn't, it seems
Also whaaaaaaat. act 3 stuff. ||Just talked to Ansur who revealed who Emperor is
||
That bit is so good, and to think it's all sidestuff
Yeah and since ||the Duke was dead I only found out because of a suggested loot list||
Anyway since no one answered earlier, act 3 || what did you guys do with orpheus? Free/not free? Not wanting spoilers, just curious what you chose||
||Freed||
I decided earlier that a sticking point for my character was a pretty strong opposition to slavery, ||it's why when I got to the duergar in the underdark, I murdered them all, condoning and working with slavery for her wasn't acceptable even as a means to a greater good.||
It was fun keeping that moral line even with ||Astarion main quest, in the house of Hope, and most especially when it turned out that the Emperor was exploiting someone to keep me safe||
Mine is pretty much ambivalent, an overall good guy but ||the end justify the means, so Astarion's now ascendant. Which I wonder if i'll regret in epilogues
I just can't quite sus out the repoercussions with Emperor or Orpheus yet if I free him, and I'm having this nagging doubt that despite what he says, Emperor's gonna try to take over the brain or something...||
I mean, normally that would be the correct choice.
My first playthrough, I let it live because I figured it just wouldn't survive the winter. Was surprised by the result.
So you...deliberately chose to let it die a slower, more painful death.
Y'all are heartless
if you let it live, the goblins take it to their camp and you can adopt it if you make the right choices
It's an owlbear. It had a chance to survive and grow up (however slim), so it didn't feel right to murder it. Mom kinda forced me to kill her by not letting me loot the body next to the nest.
My second playthrough, I let mom live and just backed away. Didn't matter. ||Goblins killed her anyway.||
You can loot the body pretty easily by having someone with Speak With Animals distract the mother, and then using your sneakiest character to creep around the edge of the cave and loot the body while the cub isn't looking.
Then all you do is apologize to the mother, back away, and say you won't return.
Eh, now that I know what happens, I'll just let mom live & then loot the body after the goblins do their thing.
Thank you from the fiery infernal engine we keep in place of our heart. ❤️🔥 We couldn't have asked for a better response to Baldur's Gate 3.

Ahh
....Woof. Act 3 stuff. ||got third netherstone.... "Such....potential", emperor says. Okay, that's uber ominous.... time to free orpheus :X ||

I swear Larian invented a machine that can read cats brainwaves and didn't tell amyone
Most of the are such little shits
Did you find the one that narrates himself like he's in a crime novel?
My favourite is the one that goes "I'd rather die" if you ask him if he wants to join your camp
It's double funny because then they attacked the place he was staying at and he did die.

He stuck to his principles
Ugh. Seems like wyll's act 3 quest is bugged for me. Spoilers: ||duke is dead and has been for a while. Killed Ansur the dragon, and it now says to talk to wyll but he doesn't say anything||
Okay, I must get to Act III so I can meet this magnificent creature.

(act 3 spoilers) I'm in the ||house of grief underground and everyone is attacking me, so I used black hole and then the monk reverberating strike on two mobs, exploded them and a bunch died
||
Ahhh fuck me i just made a bad decision
||I went in just to get the shield and i forgot who it was from.. and let that person go
time to reload and rekill||
Yeah, I got that early on with a really lucky thunderwave, if I remember right.
Act 3 stuff, redoing it. Didn't kill all 5 at the same time but got another kill with the next minion so it counts
(and i've now just cast Confusion on that large group)
Another with 3 resonating blasts
Ah good, i can still loot them while they are on the floor before i talk to them
I'm not gonna miss out on this yo

The last two are the best, lol
This is honestly one of the funniest things I've seen in the game
Fun fact, there's actually a gang of Tieflings in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous that are called The Thieflings.

You can recruit one pretty early on as a party member, and he's actually pretty dang strong, especially in the early game when things tend to kick your ass the most.
Are there more than just red dragons in the game.

I dont think your odds are in your favor
It's need a nat 20
behold, the power of save scumming!
Eh, nah 😛
when I'm presented with a choice I like to try the opposite from what I want just to see what happens
then reload and do what I wanted to
Most of them probably stopped at Act 3 and are waiting for better performance.
Anyway, my end choices: ||I turned into the Illithid and wielded the powers to beat the brain. Also freed orpheus to do so, so he helped me along. Then after the battle, I decided to go with Lae'zel (who I romanced, as I was also a gith) and Orpheus to go fight. I didn't get the chance to talk to anyone else. Also Karlach's heart ran hot and she burst into dust
||
Those 4.8 are probably idling hours but yeah, sounds about right

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b92n68SsyH4 I think i'm liking the guitar version more
Used UVR AI to split the vocals and instrumental, As I could not find the instrumental version of this song online, all copyright belongs to Larian studios, I just really liked the instrumental of this song from their trailer and in-game.
Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxCDMxngoCQ
Baldur's Gate 3 Original Soundtrack - Camp music, Earl...
God damn this game, I'm finally done and looking at other games I've been wanting to play/resume, and I still kinda want to go back in
The more I'm listening to this version and its other versions, the more I feel like "I want to Live" is the definite theme song of the game, more than any other
I mean, that is the theme of the story. Your character doesn't want to die physically, nor do they want their personality to die by transforming into a Mind Flayer.
Exactly. But I mean, it's also not some bombastic or grandiose sounding thing, it's more muted of a tune
the best song in the game is raphael's fight song tho
like objectively
it's absolutely insane
this one actually has a very DOS2 vibe
It really does.
Cursed
Specifically, it sounds like something you'd hear in Act 2.
yeah, definitely

Oof. So I have a plan to use my 5 year old gamer laptop (with a 200w power brick, usually) on my flight to japan later this year. I found a 75w brick since the 200w is over the plane limit and will draw 0 power.
The 75w brick... somehow keeps it charged and doesn't really drain battery when I'm using it for say, movies or something simple like vamp survivors and whatnot. So I can keep doing that the entire flight, I think.
I tried running BG3 on this laptop. 1080p ultra settings (which it defaults/autodetects) too is chugging, runs somewhat better at low settings. But about 10 minutes of this drained the battery by 6% even with the 75w brick. So I don't think i'll be playing BG3 on the flight 😦

Asterion's voice fits these the most, but yes, Shadowheart's VA went all-out on these.
Aunt Ethel's lines are vicious, though.
...What.
Tritons, Warforged, Yuan-Ti Purebloods, Aasimars, Firbolgs, and Genasi were originally playable races during early development???
WHAT?!?!
Holy crap, there is soooo much scrapped content for this game. I wonder if that's how people made perfect mod models for all these races so quickly, it's because they're all still there buried in the files.

They got rid of all the cool stuff!
I mean, I figure they had to or we'd have seen this by maybe 2025?
That would've been fine by me, in all honesty. More time for bug squashing and playtesting, and LOTS more content.
Most likely they recorded all these, and then realized creating character models is hard.
Still, I'd have loved a Tabaxi race.
God, a halfling werewolf would've been amazing.
I appreciate a game company that is aware of scope creep
Didn't need Baldur's Citizen
That said, we did need a short race origin.
Way too many elves and half elves in the roster
do they turn into a corgi?
Okay, so I redid the last fight again. Because when I first finished it (ending spoilers): ||I as a githyanki went with Laezel and Orpheus to go fight more illithid in the astral plane, I think they said? which meant that apart from watching Karlach burn to death, i saw no further 'epilogue' of sorts, or rather no one really said anything||. This time, I let ||Lae'zel go on her own with Orpheus, even though she was my romance partner. Then when Karlach started burning, I convinced her to go to Avernus with me|| instead, and there were more people commenting/talking about their plans as well. So that felt better
No joke, the fanart would've been amazing. Since she's a halfling werewolf, she'd likely turn into a smaller wolf, so there could've been lots of wholesome fanart about her being the emotional support dog of the group.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2scKB-FEQL8 a bit longer video/more context to Karlach breaking the fourth wall
Truly bizarre scene with best tiefling girl where she seemingly sees through the fourth wall.
Apparently not cut content, just obscure.
Oh damn, she actually stares at the player, not the PC.
Right?!
The whole thread has some great stories of how people missed/killed companions without meaning to:
https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/16ldaqo/i_beat_the_entire_game_without_laezel/
I missed karlach for about 40% of act 1, and Astarion for like 80%
https://imgur.com/gallery/frHuiMS speaking of karlach, a gigantic gallery in tribute to Best Girl
WAUGH
that preview is maybe not the best
But there's lovely stuff like this
Never really used Asterion so not sure how accurate that is (same with Lae'zel), but the bard thing is pretty accurate, they go down fast.
And as for Karlach...let her bonk away at things. She loves it. She can do it all day.
😈
Double attack and action surge is terrifying
I redid the last fight as I mentioned yesterday and first to move was Lae'zel. ||Took the dragon down about 160 points right then and there

ooooh
This ought to be fun! :D
Dammit, a YouTube thumbnail spoiled me on a major part of Dark Urge playthroughs.
Same, I was looking at something else in a video and got spoiled as to a major story part of it :<
Never change, YouTube spoilers...
Is that far into the game?
The reveal is pretty far in, from what I can tell.
Ah right.
I got revealed what the ||urge actually is/who they are 😐 ||
Fun fact, Dark Urge was the original background for Tav.
How is everyone finding the game since launch?
It's probably going to be the best CRPG for a long time.

Are there still some bugs?
For something of this scope, nearly impossible to get rid of them all. I think there's another performance/optimization patch coming though
Yeah, Patch 3 is due this week
I see people want DLC for the game but wouldn’t that be a while away?
Yeah quite far
Very
Normally DLC would be stuff like additional subclasses but those can be modded in.
If DLC is the areas they removed the scope of those areas need to be increased for it to be good DLC.
And any kind of level increase is a lot of work for post 12.
Yeah. Short of just “spam high level enemies or monsters”
I'd be happiest with a DLC that's just more subclasses & more playable races.
The ending (depending on choices) could make for a good dlc starting point. (big spoilers for ending) ||Karlach & friend's adventures in Avernus||
Modded classes and races can be added, but if they are not Larian supported we are probably not getting deep interactions based on them, or if we do, they at least not gonna be voiced by NPCs so there is still value from Larian making them
When Microsoft was considering future release titles to bring to Game Pass last May, Larian’s hit CRPG Baldur’s Gate 3 barely made the list. The game was described as a “Second-run Stadia PC RPG” in leaked emails from the FTC v. Microsoft case. The explosive overnight popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3 must be pretty embarrassing in hindsight, especi...
"second-run Stadia PC RPG"
Mfs, did you even PLAY D:OS 1 & 2?
In fairness. The devs dont blame them
In their defence, so did everyone else. Same with DOS2. Comes with the genre, and the way we approach things, and the way we execute things. There just isn’t any existing data that could have told anyone how BG3 was going to perform. We just had to take giant spooky leaps.

Theres never been a game like BG3 to use as reference and nobody expected it to blow up as big as it did
https://www.pcinvasion.com/all-time-sensitive-quests-in-baldurs-gate-3/ obviously spoiler heavy
I'm not sure the druid grove ritual is accurate. I saw a YouTuber debunk this by doing 20+ long rests and nothing happened. He had to progress specific quests before the ritual would ever complete.
oh yeah looks like we watched the same video
I'm the one who linked that video 😛
And I think they did something else, if you do/don't do something at the camp or grove it causes the raid to happen. In this case they are saying talk to X, and the raid starts after one rest
The raid and the rituals are different triggers, yes.
oh ritual is mentioned in there too, i skipped that line somehow

Do you prefer Mac over steam?
Hyyyype.
The macOS version on Steam is still the early access version, so you can’t play it on macOS yet.
It’ll just be nice to have the option available
Ah right
I just like having the option to play on my laptop instead of always being on my desktop.
I hope it will be good on battery life and not overheat.

One step closer to allowing players to create a team full of completely custom characters.
Nice! I'm honestly surprised it's coming this quickly.
Oh, I knew about this the moment I heard Shadowheart say "ignis" in the tutorial level when she cast firebolt.
That's a common Latin word for fire.
Yeah, that was one I recognized, but I wasn't sure about the rest. I wouldn't have been surprised if they used Latin for that one and something else for the rest, but it's neat to know it's all Latin.

Well, if you're gonna use a language for spells, you may as well be consistent about it
cough Harry Potter should take notes cough
I frankly absolutely love all the spell casting effects and sounds. The voicelines are badass as hell and the animations and hand gestures that they do are so cool
absolutely top tier
I did hear something like Animalus or something about animals with speak to animals spell
it's actually kind of odd, now that I think of it, that WotC never made up their own language
I think some old 2e books may have had samples, but no one really follows that kind of thing anyway.
Ah, the video where he is quoted about that was near the launch of the game. The content was already found after all. Fairly early but still spoilering for Masque 😛 no lookie! ||the blood of lathander stuff||

About time
Grym suddenly got eerily smart and was avoiding the ||crucible|| in the Adamantine Forge. With a nervous laugh, we dumbed him back down a little.
Motherf*cker, I KNEW that bastard was fighting dirty when I was fighting him.
Fixed Shadowheart looking like she's either in pain or about to sneeze in the background of a dialogue with Thulla.

Alas, I can't install it because my macOS Steam is still unable to recognize that it has an internet connection. But it refuses to acknowledge this fact because Steam is an absolute trashfire of broken software.
It has been like this for weeks.
have you tried turning it off and on again

Finally got Steam to behave well enough to download it.
Now to see how this performs on a M2 Max
Wow, the BG3 launcher actually blocks you from using copy/paste to log in
Gross
Oh this runs quite smoothly.
I'll have to try it this evening, after I finish this game of Civ.
Have you almost finished your play through?
Getting close! I'm working on a Cultural victory right now, and doing fairly well.

Apparently they fixed it so NPCs will no longer panic because of your summons.
Petting Scratch and the owlbear cub at the same time while Speaking with Animals will grant the 'You Have Two Hands for a Reason' achievement.
How can you pet both at the same time?
With two hands, duh
I had that option at least once during a cutscene, I don't know if you can do it otherwise.
They added it to the loading screen hints!
And have you done that to any foes yet?
I did on my first playthrough.

Every time that's happened I always reload
I can't bear losing good loot
Well unless they're some generic enemy
But if I accidentally shove a mini boss enemy off the edge then I'm reloading
I noticed that when I was abusing it in the goblin camp. Stopped after that unless I knew the mobs wouldn't have anything decent
I wish they give you a spell or something to get loot from enemies killed this way
But you can only use it like once per short rest or something
So that you save it for bosses n stuff

Yeah, I used it a good chunk on my first Tav, but then I found out about losing loot and stopped. I've only been shoving enemies off elevated platforms onto the ground on my new playthrough.
Yup
I shoved a few enemies into chasms before. It was fun, funny, and satisfying. Sure, I lost a couple items, but it's not like they were super important ones.
No matter what, on every playthrough, there's always one guy who I will shove into the void: that one goblin inside the temple that keeps pissing into the hole next to him. Idk why, it was just super satisfying to give him a little push with Karlach and watch him tumble.
Uhhhhh

Okay, i still hate the Noblestalk puzzle. I used ||Shovel|| to get the bag to the dwarf. Then I wound up just having Karlach jump through patch of Bibberbang, grab the mushroom, and jump back out of the spore cloud before the explosions could reach her.
Ah, apparently I screwed up the trick to get Shovel as a permanent summon. Now I have to decide if it's worth rolling back an hour or so of gameplay or just wait until my next playthrough.

Oh! There's a particular scroll you can find in Act I, using it summons a particularly talkative demon (quasit). A wizard can scribe the scroll into their spellbook as a permanent Find Familiar ritual, but other classes can also get the Find Familiar ritual if you make the right dialogue choices while the demon is out. Otherwise, it disappears when you long rest.
Ah, and Shovel is the name?
Yup. Shovel is the name when you summon her, though you can rename her one of two other options.

Who's Shovel?
In Act I, you can find a hidden cellar in the Blighted Villiage. It's down in the same place where you find ||the Necromancy of Thay|| book. Before you get to that chamber, there's a cave full of coffins, one of which contains the scroll.
Yes, but this one talks shit to you. And it can just be fun having a summon that can turn invisible at will and cause mischief.
She's not great at combat, though I found her useful for finishing off a few enemies that had 1-3 HP left, so my party could focus on the rest of the bad guys.
... huh. I wonder if she counts so Rogues can get Sneak Attack..
She tried
So my initial install on my Mac failed, because the laptop went to sleep partway through, install appears to have corrupted. Uninstalled it, did an install (while keeping my desktop awake, so I could transfer files locally via Steam). The inial launch of the game took forever, but it worked and runs really smooth in Act I.

Bottom right
Saw that on Reddit the other day. Very good summary.
But I'm waiting for them to expand her story before trying any romance with her.

Okay, one annoying thing about playing on the Mac. If I'm playing without a mouse, just using the trackpad, I'm using Q and E to rotate the camera. The Command key is the one you hold to highlight containers and objects.
Command-Q is the combo to immediately quit an application in MacOS.
Guess what I've done on more than one occasion.

Controller support in this game is really good if you have one.

this would 100% motivate me to get my ass out of bed in the morning

They're all into the whole BG3 thing but he's super into it 😄
I made the mistake of trying to use the Adamantine Forge at level 5. ||Grym TPKed me.||
It can be tricky, but it is doable at level 5, that's where I killed him.
What level is he? I don't remember
I may try it again in a bit. I guess I have to ||lure him into the lava to make him vulnerable again|| but he just soaks everything and hits like a truck.
You just need to carefully position your characters before the battle starts. Have your tankiest person in the middle on top of the forge machinery (but away from the hammer) to draw his ire at first, then once he's in position in the middle, hit him with the hammer, and you'll get a free hit within two rounds of combat. After that, have your other party members focus on the exploding imps for a bit until Grym gets back up, then repeat the process. Grym will try to move away from the hammer, so it then becomes a game of how well you can position your people in respect to the hammer and Grym's pathing, because you want him to take a straight line through the hammer and not go around it.
I found a book saying there's ||a hammer|| that can damage him, but haven't found that. Unless it's just saying ||hammers in general, because he's vulnerable to Bludgeoning damage when in the lava||.
It's a different kind of hammer. My advice is to look around the battlefield for a bit to see what you can see.
😉
Eh, I'm blind, so not surprising I missed it. I've overlooked a lot of things in this game.
So have I. I came across the trick quite by accident during the fight, and I restarted the fight multiple times before I got him.
I also need to find the other vein of Mithral so I can make a second item, but that'll wait.
One is a little trickier to find than the other, or at least a little more out of the way.
Would've liked to see a Baldur's Gate 3 intro in the vein of Parks & Recreation.
Dear god no
Have you seen any similar to that?
No, just not a fan of Friends.
Got this earlier today. Rolled a new Fighter, took him through the intro. Had to do it twice, but managed to down the guy (medium difficulty).
Was it hard?
Fairly, yes, I've tried to do it a few times before. If you don't finish him fast enough, reinforcements come in and one shot each of your party members.
Adventuring is also committing felonies like reading other people's mail!
[Asterion liked that]
Read ALL THE THINGS
It's okay to read other people's mail if you killed them.
Reading people's mail. Oath break.
Annoyingly, I somehow got the stealing debuff in Grymforge. After killing ||Nere|| his body was not a regular lootable corpse, it was Stealing.
I also got the Enemy of Justice debuff. I can only guess a non-hostile guard got caught in an AoE or something.
I think it only matters within that settlment at least
If you have a way to cast disguise self you can avoid problems due to it, in case the duegars are still living and you want to interact with them
I think it works for that at least
I kill all the slavers so it doesn't matter.
Yep
I would like to, but that fight is bad enough with their help.
Holy fucking shit
Haha, I didn't even know it was possible
It just would not stop attaching Karlach, even when someone else was its ||Prime Target||. Luckily I'd respecced Shadowheart into Life domain, so she kept healing, and my casters kept hitting it with chromatic orb (thunder) and eldritch blast.
I think ||Prime target is pretty much just the last one that hit it. Obviously though there's the opportunity attack stuff too||
That's just it, I had others hitting it with spells even after Karlach attacked, and it'd switch. I think it might've got hung up on terrain, because it just kept doing AoEs and hitting Karlach since she was right there.
Oh nice, that got us to level 6
I already have lightning bolt (since I'm a Storm Sorcerer), why not go for the classic?
