pyrite and calcite are minerals that can sometimes be in real life lapis lazuli rocks. sodalite is a stone that looks kinda similar and comes in pink. so thats where the names come from

I guess I could bite, even if I know little. From what I have seen over the years from others bringing up the series (and random references on TV Tropes), I get the impression that the series starts out as fantasy but adds on science-fiction elements as it progresses. How on target is that?

theyre aliens but they are kind of magical, as the series goes on you see more of the scifi techy kinda stuff
