Jumpy train
This is actually a cool experience
Good game for steam deck
You can use hybrid controller and touchscreen
Hybrid touchscreen and controller is perfect for these
Low graphics in this game is too far. It destroys the look of the game.
Wtf is this
So much is new now
There's fog and I only see 1m ahead of me
Amp reading looks different
I thought I heard footsteps behind me
They made the DE2 more powerful again as well it seems
Not sure if anyone here is still interested in the game, it gets a bit stale after a while, but I really love it. Such a fun way to kill a few hours. And I guess just heavy vehicle driving is a bit of a passion for me anyway.
there was a major update a few days ago that added the BE2 microshunter and changed how the DE2, DE6, and slug work
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/588030/view/4035856766972680429?l=english
Hi everyone! We've just released build 98, our latest update bringing you a new vehicle, new features, numerous improvements and bug fixes! BE2-260 Microshunter The tiny, quirky new battery-electric shunter takes the spotlight! There's two practical functions to it: it's the first vehicle to utilize the all new electric powertrain simulation, an...
Aah yeah
That is why the de6 seems so different
I like how the game is coming together.
I have no more progression to make but it is so fun for killing a few hours
Though I should get the microshunter
Its a bit out there for this channel but I'll get to do some irl railroading soon
Volunteering at a Heritage Railway/Museum
Yay, new song drop!
I prefer diesel
Unfortunately I'm not due to volunteer for a few months because they're renovating right now
Ah okie
I just choose whatever jobs I want now. Money doesn't matter anymore.
This month we're looking at how coal firing works in Century of Steam!

@lime sable
Yo
It's great they implimented this, but it's also great they provided adjustable difficulty, because I don't think many people want to get this nitty-gritty into firing.
Ur a train fan too?
Um, yes. I usually tend to keep it off the pony sites because it tends to bore other users, but you could say that.
this is like statistics.
they show what the loco is, their fuel, their capacities, yknow
they're not rlly gonna nerf that
DH locos do heta up fast
because ur heating the fluid in the turbines faster
snaily
These are mainly used in germany where factories have exhaust steam
however if u let it sit
the hot steam will turn into water
any derail vallers online today?
I forgot you gotta find the slug in a shed
Yep
This game badly needs an update to optimize the look of the game on lower settings. It just removes stuff and makes the game painful.
Going from high to medium, you loose most trees in this area.
Surely they don't need to just remove stuff for lower settings
I actually hate putting this below high now because you loose physical terrain features
Very low vs ultra.
I get this is an accessibility thing for people with 20 year old pcs but anything below high just destroys how the game looks
These are my optimized settings for 780m amd integrated graphics. Good with a 40 or 45 fps cap.
Motion blur is just preference
Good performance without sacrificing visuals much
But now I am curious to play the game looking like a baren wasteland
Oh and no setting gets rid of the stretched terrain btw, that is just weird map stuff.
Removing particles would be AMAZING
Yeah less dense particles could help
I loved driving those things in Trainz
Connecting up 10 engines to deliver like 1000 cars of whatever
A short teaser from a series of videos we filmed as I drove the 2600/2620 simulator at the national railway museum. 🤩🧡🤍🧡🤍🇵🇹

I love how mean that train looks

Awesome interactive level crossing signal that you can play with at the Portuguese National Railway Museum 😊

I cooked up HARD
Someone left a white slug behind
A B unit, in railroad terminology, is a locomotive unit (generally a diesel locomotive) which does not have a control cab or crew compartment, and must therefore be operated in tandem with another coupled locomotive with a cab (an A unit). The terms booster unit and cabless are also used. The concept is largely confined to North America. Elsewhe...
So they have their own engine in them too
I remember driving those ones in trainz 2006 but the only bundled route where you drove it was the tutorial
yep
specifically an F7B
the Rock Island had a few painted in white for passenger runs
trainz 2019
Oh it is trainz
Last one I played was trainz 2012
Maybe I should try the newer ones
nostalgia
Needs a speedy computer
Yeah it totally could
The graphics and physics are ancient by today's standards. Extremely simple. But for the time it was a lot. My windows xp machine at the time struggled. Toronto would go into single digit fps
Pf probably
I think it was all just a combination of a low end graphics card from the 90s probably, low end cpu, and probably only 512mb of ram.
I can't remember exactly
I was able to watch youtube on it at 480p when it started being popular
lmfao
Honestly cool how technology advances. Now a $100 laptop brand new would be hundreds of times more powerful then that.
I've got an F7 in Railroader, and it's a really nice model
might have to spawn one in and take some screenshots
I think I have an old CD of the original MSTS laying around somewhere too.......
blessed 2001
I think that one is made by the same guy who made the F7s I used in my screenshot
@drowsy nimbus so you're DARTrider from the Auran forums?
how the fuck
oh shit you play Trainz too?
and yes, that is me. Hi!
Yep. While I'm currently knee-deep in Open Rails stuff, Trainz was my first love.
SD45T-2 there.
I wasn't trying very hard, my applogies.
lmao
I don't want those guys figuring that out about me
ya know, stigmas and that
Just saw the same screenshots on the auran forums.
I won't tell.
alright
I totally get that, which is why Train sim stuff rarely intersects with the brony stuff, even though most of friends are okay with it.
yep
And why I so rarely post things in this thread. I asked for it once, gave up because of lack of interest.
Here, have a reskin. It's a rehash of a older reskin on a newer model using a newer methodology and new scripting skills.
The F40PH, not the coaches, or the P42.
very nice
Thank you. This is a fairly light reskin, just de-patched a BNSF unit.
I should really finish this someday.
lmfao ATSF GF6C
Already did them in 3 BN flavors.
No, I have not, but considering everyone and their friend has reskinned that unit, I'm not surprised.
And yes, 3 flavors. We got whiteface, we got stripes..
And we've got tigerstripes.
awesome
The crowd favorite, I might add. Got a lot people wondering when I'd do this version.
But yeah, @drowsy nimbus, until this thread popped up, the idea didn't get a lot of traction, pun not intended.
#1032716748887179434 message
But I guess there's interest, so here we are.
PS - Screenshots are in TRS22, I was on TANE so I was wayyy behind version wise and wanted the largest leapfrog.
Can you still download content for trainz 2006?
Yes...but it's going to be an uphill battle. You'll need to find the old versions of stuff that have low build numbers.
I see
Actually... Does older content work on newer versions?
I wanna go back and play on a San Francisco map I played on as a kid
Yep. It might need some adjustments here and there, but it'll either work will be straightforward to get working, for the most part.
Drive cable cars around
ok that is cool actually
Then i don't need to bug my mum about the old account for downloading the mods
That's one of Trainz's greatest strengths and weaknesses, the ability to use old content. Good because you can enjoy old content in newer verisons, bad because it can look dated at times.
Made in 2008, still work in TRS22.
I wouldn't mind the dated look. It would look nostalgic to me.
Oh the joy I feel when I see cardboard cars driving around, 2D trees, and buildings that are a prefect rectangle with textures on them
Though I didn't like how, in trainz 2006, some of the trains would have wheels that move, and others were static. Wouldn't be an issue now I'm sure but, ages ago, there was a time where just rendering the spinning wheels was probably a lot.
I'm curious though, do the new versions have support for controller?
What do you mean? Console controlers I don't think so but I'd have to check. Something dedicated like a raildriver though will work just fine.
The earliest versions of Trainz in 2001 or so didn't support spinning wheels. That was fixed in various patches before UTC was released.
Yeah that makes sense
Yeah console controllers i was meaning
I mostly play games with controllers now
Look at these amazing graphics
I don't know if real time shadows were even a thing back then
And man do i miss these things. I remember this whole city being so cool to me back then
I actually have screenshots of the city working in newer versions. It's aged suprsingly well.
They had to be defined with a dedicated shadow mesh, and it only worked on rolling stock and a few other assets.
omg yes
The city in trainz 2009 though... That made me orgasm
It was sooo huge, and it even had a bridge off to a small island
It was amazing
To be fair I think in 2006 it was some kind of demo, and then in 2009 I had the full version or something
Some maps were like that and it was kinda annoying. Like the one with the ICE trains, the end of the map was like an advertisment for the bigger version or something like that
this train was fucking weird
The Future is now! At least in a testing phase…
It’s surreal seeing a variant of the FLIRT that’s not TexRail operating in DFW, albeit not on its home rails (for now). That being said, enjoy this video of 3 test runs of the Silver Line FLIRT’s in both directions!
not my video
I love crawling at 5km/h out of IMW
because i forgot about the gradient and am 400t overweight
i want to try starting a new game in derail valley. It isn't as fun once you reach the end and have nothing left to unlock. You just make money and drive huge trains.
Hello everyone! This is a quick post to let you know that the next Derail Valley update that we've been working on since the start of the year, B99, will be released on November 21, 2024! The update will be rather large, introducing a couple of new stations, some train customization features, a new rail vehicle and many more improvements. We'll ...
This is so cool
Can't wait to play b99
Being able to switch rails before setting off is a big boon. No more frantically trying to snipe the switcher seconds before impact.
Ah yes. Especially for playing on controller that was a giant pain.
just do as I do and forget to set the switches at all
Try it in VR some time.... it adds to the experience, having to hold the radio like a pistol and sight the sign using the tuner buttons on the top of the radio as a reference.
hauling 1800t with 2 de6's out of CME
fun times :3
you can alternate the two locos going up the slope to keep the TM's from blowing
I loove driving giant heavy trains but then they are a pain to shunt. Especially if you take on like 3 or 4 jobs at once.
I once tested the coal mine run, you can do both coal hauls at once with 14 DE2's in tandem.
How do you even find 14 of them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adi6ccT-lUE Apparently this is a thing you can do in the game
Some extra footage from before the tutorial video. And what I initially showed on Reddit.
I found this glitch completely on accident. I then found out you could launch things at immense speed with this glitch.
This is the scariest shit I have ever seen
Turn your train into a demon from hell
Such a good update, I love the new eldritch locomotive

Multi-Track Drifting!!
Kinda crazy that it is a thing you literally can do in this game
Did anyone here keep up the Hyce's playthrough of derail valley? I only just realized that it ended at episode 50, but I lost interest in watching it back at like episode 10 maybe.
I love using 3 DE2's instead of proper locos
its not even a job that needs more than 1 de2
247t of unloaded flatcars to harbor from SM
*242t
Using 3 DE6s
Yep, and it's not over yet!
ooh!
oh god what is this
2 de'2 and a dh4
This just wouldn't work well..
moving a little over 1400t of flour
oh huh
it does!
Oh yeaah if you don't have the license
both de2's have overheating protection gadgets
I have played for so long with every license unlocked that I sorta forgot what it is like not having them unlocked. I just unlocked them all and then kept playing.
the de2's pretty much get the train rolling before the hydralics on the DH4 spin up properly
its surprisngly effective
and i can just shut off the dh4 once the train is unloaded
ooh damn I see
I think my favourite to drive was still the diesel mechanical
It was just fun
i liked it
but i just could NOT shift properly
my fav loco is still the fricken dh4
Just something about shifting through gears makes me happy. And it feels so similar to driving a heavy vehicle irl, just with a lot of gears.

I will note now that how the Turntables work in that game is identical to how they work in Lionel Traintown, except more diagetic.
Click end of turntable, click track, turntable goes to track, no mess, no fuss.

Oh, just making sure. My applogies.
Don’t worry about it

only problem is the lack of a main map and ARN, but they’re alright for what they are
Thinking about going out into the field and recording some sounds myself
Sounds good. They don't look too shabby, which considering how uncommon light rail stuff can be in Trainz, is a good thing.

I shall return to the land of the DART
someday I will appear there lmao
here’s Dallas before DART

Taken on January 22 and 23, 2025, at Boston North Station. I spotted this trainset on my commutes along the MBTA Commuter Rail's Lowell Line, which shares trackage with Amtrak's Downeaster service from Boston North Station to Brunswick, Maine.
North Station is looking more and more like a working railroad museum these days...

I apricate that Chrome Thunder anticipated this being someone's first trainset and not having a model railroader on tap. ❤️
Forgot to post this until now

I know it's not a great pic, but this was taken from inside my car while moving
Hell yeah
Also cool to know you took Amtrak to HarmonyCon!
have this photo I found of a dart train in the snow
I'm not really sure if this in the spirit of the thread, but I've been beta-testing a cute little game called "A Bumpy Ride". It's more appropriately termed a casual train-driving adventure, where you explore a 19th century-esq cartoon world hauling passengers and freight.
A Bumpy Ride is Cosmoporium Games' breakout title! In this train-driving exploration game, you'll be tasked with managing a small railroad all alone. Drive the train, hire your crew, and take passengers where they want to go! Explore and reveal new areas on your map, spurred on by passengers' requests to go to places you might not recognize. Coming soon
For such a simple game, it's kinda sucked me in.
There's going to be a demo coming out on Steam's Nextfest event, so that's what I've been testing.
First thing, the demo for A Bumpy Ride is out.
The DL535 is a really cool piece of motive power - and we had a ton of fun getting it simulated for Century of Steam! Recall we're celebrating 100 years of railroading on 3' - and this is the very end of that 100 years!

It's an old Wabash from here at home.
Railroader 2024.6 hits mainline on Monday!
The Eagle finally got its Obs car back!
https://www.rxddit.com/r/Amtrak/s/Sc6TTEY7nh
Sweet!
But no offense, but the Superliner lounges are ultra or super-dome cars. True Observation cars are at the end, and have a rounded end, with windows facing towards the rear.
From AmericanRails.com.
There has never been a Superliner observation car planned to my knowledge, let alone built.
Sadly my next legit reason to be on the Eagle won't be until next Jan/Feb if Harmonycon stays in the same place for next year.
and yeah I know it's not a "true" observation car of the glory days, but everyone still calls them that even though they're technically just lounge cars.
Ah, okay, just didn't know if you understand.
Still, full-length aka super-dome cars are still pretty cool.
Amtrak would never put a true rounded end observation car on their trains, because it always has to be at the end. It would mess with their switching in places like Saint Louis and San Antonio on the Eagle for example. An extra coach gets added/removed to the rear of the Eagle in STL for the STL-Chicago segment....and the Eagle takes a coach and sleeper from the Sunset Limited 3 times a week in San Antonio. It would be extra switching moves to take the rear car off, add/remove those cars, and put the rear car back on. That all costs time which costs money, so they're not really inclined to do it. Amtrak is sadly already scraping the bottom of the barrel as it is.
The same thing happens to the Empire Builder. The train is split in Spokane, one part going to Seattle, one part going to Portland. That an the train splitting you mentioned above, along with the fact that Santa Fe couldn't figure out one for the El Capitan cars, the proto-Superliners, are why no Superliner observations exist.
Amtrak doesn't own any others anyway, aside from that one Amfleet coach used for special events.
Would be nice for there to be some actual Superliner Observation cars
But getting Pullman or Bombardier to build some might be kinda difficult
Yeah, also...how would you style it?
I don’t even think Pullman is around
No, they are not. Bombardier is also no longer in the railcar business IIRC.
that's what i meant
Pullman built their last sleeping car in 1956, and last lightweight passenger cars in 1965, and went effectively defunct at the end of '68, while continuing to build Superliners for amtrrak into the late '70s and early '80s. They were absorbed by Bombardier in '87, and Bombardier went defunct themselves in 2021 and were absorbed into Alstom.
Oh...my bad.
so i think technically Alstom would hold the right to building new Superliners
but Amtrak ain't got the money for that, and we can do better than the old Superliner design now.
the current coaches that Alstom are building are these:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardier_BiLevel_Coach
Their top operators are GO Transit in Ontario, Metrolink in LA, and the Sounder in Seattle.
Like I mentioned, Santa Fe couldn't figure out how to cap off their El Capitan trains with a proper observation car, so just used a step-down coach and slapped a drumhead and light on the rear door.
Screenshot from Open Rails.
there was an attempt at a new bi-level car design, but the one prototype that got built failed in numerous ways
they were intended to replace the Amfleet and Horizon cars in the midwest.
but because it failed, the Siemens Venture cars, as you may know from Brightline, got built instead.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_Generation_Bi-Level_Passenger_Rail_Car
The Next Generation Bi-Level Passenger Rail Car was a failed design of bilevel intercity railroad passenger cars that was to be built by Sumitomo, with construction subcontracted to Nippon Sharyo. The contract was awarded in 2012 with delivery scheduled between 2015 and 2018. After delays in production, a prototype car failed buff strength testi...
These screenshots will never not kill me of laughter. Just a normal train sim here, oh look trains exploding
Ooooo I just started again since the new update, It rons a bit better in VR now, so much fun. I literally got a quest mostly for derail lol
Haven't had much time as of late, so just been playing Lionel Traintown Deluxe. Something the older peeps might remember.
Playing derail valley again, haven't played since march last year. Lots of good updates.
oh god I forget how to operate the green steam train and it is the only train here
I got it moving but it sounds terrible
Idk how but I broke it and it can no longer move under its own power
I like how later game you don't have to care about money, just choose whatever you want to do
brooo I'm rewatching Hyce's playthrough of derail valley, this earlier version of the game has the whole train light on fire when you crouch down
He ignores it so I assume it was a common occurance
Also the train gets up to pressure stupidly fast there
Before the simulator update
Oh also being able to set all the switches before you set off is soo amazing now in the new updates, don't have to stress at every junction on which way you gotta go
OOPS
I think the train value number is important to consider. Can be a job that looks lower paying but is much easier or shorter distance
I screwed up, the tracks were set wrong in a yard and I went into cars at 60
I really fucked up this diesel mechanical
Wheels is the most messed up costing $20k, and then body costing $10k
hmm.. 3 DE2s or 1 DE6
oh my god I finally looked into all the customisation and museum trains in derail valley
I watched the trailer and I'm like
I think I can have a train with purple lights that plays drum and bass from a stereo as it drives down the rail
Or a train with extra headlights and obnoxious yellow spinning lights
I was considering a new game but uh no there's still heaps of stuff I can do
This Is a 100 sub special for all you guys thank you ya for supporting me channel! (Also my FBD went out cuz its dumb and gay)

I'm genuenly thinking of trying a new game and doing an ultra hard custom difficulity, where I just make every single setting the most unfair thing ever
See if it is even possible with fees all the way up and pay all the way down
I am screwed
Also no dashing. At all.
I have to walk
I contemplated going no sleep and 24h days but that doesn't really make it harder.
If anything a 30 minute day is harder
oh god these jobs pay fucking nothing
oh god this is hell
No remote switching and no dash. I have to walk out and manually change switches.
Gonna be inclined to drive over to the station office rather then walk
I think I can do this as long as I make the most out of the copay insurance, especially early game
I can't even press F to get in a DE2, I have to use the stairs and the door
Steel mill to goods factory doing a $2000 job ($4000 with only a 20 minute time bonus) and it racked up 11k in fees on the DE2
This is doable now with the insurance copay but I don't know about late game
There is a fright hall here paying only $900 omg
I'm getting the feeling this won't be possible as I progress for real. Just did a job that paid $3k and had $44k on a de2 that had nothing go wrong, was just a long trip.

Broo I just looked into derail valley modding and it is crazy
Can even have custom maps
It's a bit of a pain, but I have gotten derail valley mods in SteamOS
bruhhh I get the passengers mod and it is $100,000 for a license, on my super hard playthrough where I make fuck all money
Anyone uses custom train mods in derail valley? I'm thinking about trying some but a lot seem to have bugs
Fuck it I'm trying some. Hopefully the game can handle a mass of extra trains suddenly there
God damn it, whatever game I mod ends up being fucked up in some way
Now my DE2 looks like a murder happened inside of it
Crap I'm downloading all these trains and I probably won't know what each one can pull
https://www.nexusmods.com/derailvalley/mods/1068 It seems you can add the toilet room into the trains
https://www.nexusmods.com/derailvalley/mods/1123
This map looks like a god damn horror game
Gahh modding this game is much more annoying then a lot of other games. Maybe just stick to a few specific mods you might like. It likes to just not open with too many. Right now my fricken comms radio is broken and I have no idea why it would be, none of the mods on should be changing what it does
A lot of custom trains also don't seem to be naturally spawning either which really sucks besides using sandbox mode
