Anyone getting the feeling that Nya's been mostly shafted this season? She lost her powers, lost her mech, lost her water form, almost lost her life, and is now being ignored by her teammates and boyfriend.

And she also did f-ck all with that mech in the first place. They hyped it up so much, and it really only appeared in three episodes. One where it helped the Ninja escape and then f`cked off to parts unknown without helping them actually escape from their pursuers, the second to help Nya escape the monastery, and the third to help the Ninja escape from the rubble. Then it was destroyed and never seen again.
It was setting up a really cool side-story about Nya discovering how to be useful again without her powers, and showing her taking up the mantle of Samurai X again (since PIXAL's been relegated to being the team mechanic). Instead, her story gets dropped, the Samurai X gig is quite literally shot to hell, and she's now just a side character and just there for moral support.
What a perfectly terrible waste of the EXCELLENT character development she got in S14 and at the start of S15.

Not quite. Kai lost his powers, but it was only temporary because Aspheera didn't really take all of it, just most of it.
But with Nya, she had to lose every single bit of it in order to fully become human again. This was fully established in S15 and S14. If she still has access to her powers though, why didn't they show that before? And why is she not in her "one with the sea" form?
It's a plot hole.

I really think that the whole Sea Nya thing should've lasted longer than two episodes. We should've had way more time with that. She got a beautiful episode showing her interacting with Nyad and coming to terms with who she really was, but then the transition from that to human was way too quick.

Also, Lloyd is talking about abandonment again. Completely ignoring the fact that, once the original Garmadon was cured of his evilness, they kept in close contact with one another and were on good terms. And then the original died to save Lloyd's scrawny ass, and this is the thanks he gets?
This Garmadon is your second chance, Lloyd! He's trying his best, but he has literally everything going against him. He's the embodiment of all that was evil, but he's still trying to be a good father and trying to understand empathy.
Lloyd's not just being insufferable, he's being unrealistic and uncaring. The issues he has with his father aren't applicable here. This Garmadon never abandoned him except after the Oni crisis, and even then, can you blame him? Has he stayed, he would've been locked up, and he would never know the empathy he feels now. He would still be a villain.
At least this way he knew that there was a chance he could come back fully reformed and ready to step back into his son's life.
Lloyd would've never accepted him otherwise.
But now as he's trying to be kinder and more empathetic, but just not understanding it fully, Lloyd's equating him with the old Garmadon, which is completely unfair, and also goes against Lloyd's own experiences and character development.
Because of course they have a noodle stand in the safehouse.

Ooooo, nice! I'm glad they're going with physical dragons again instead of the elemental ones. The elemental dragons were both OP and dumb, and were basically forgotten as soon as their one use was over.
And I'm also intrigued by the route they're going with storytelling. It seems like Lloyd is still gonna be around for most of the story, but the others will sometimes be major characters and other times cameos. I am okay with this, since it gives the new characters time to breathe without letting go of the old gang.
But I am even more intrigued by the wording about the merge. It seems like it's gonna be a permanent thing, and not something that can just be fixed.
Meaning that the world just got MASSIVE.
So many quests and adventures await us, and far more fantasy too! :D

Also, I think it's fair now that I'm almost at the end of the show to start splitting up the different seasons into eras as I perceive them.
S1 - S3: The Silly Era (let's be honest, the first few seasons were very goofy and cliched, even though S3 is still one of my top four seasons)
S4 - S7: The Seriously Bouncy Era (where the animation improved greatly and got a little bit bouncier, and where the stories got a bit more serious, but still retained some of the previous era's silliness)
S8 - S10: The Badass Era (darker story, incredible animation, wonderful soundtrack, cool fights, and PERFECT voice acting; S9 is peak Ninjago)
S11 - S15: The World-Building Era (animation got smoother and more colorful, contrasting the grittier take the previous era had, but also got a little more of a hazy look to it in some cases; villains were awesome, stories were awesome, the fights were badass, and the world-building was top-notch; the only true black marks against it were The Island and the very occasional poorly-constructed episode from S15)

Yeah, I wasn't going by story arcs for the eras, mainly the general tone and feel of each season.
I was very tempted to make S7 an era of its own because...hooooo boy, that one was weird.
But I instead stuck it in the Seriously Bouncy Era because, while the animation was wonky and there were a lot of errors and plot holes, the actual tone of the season was still pretty damn dark, and the animation as a whole still carried the same fluidness of the previous seasons.

It's such a damn shame that it's a black sheep, it had soooo much going for it with that first episode.
And then it just went downhill from there.
But again, the tone and soundtrack were still great.

I'll say it: I liked the Vermillion. They were goofy, but had some of the coolest mook designs in the show. I mean come on, soldiers created from millions of snakes and were essentially indestructible because of that? Badass.

So...Crystalized. Not gonna sugarcoat it, it's nowhere near as good as S14, but I think you both expected I would feel that way about it.
It's got some truly spectacular episodes. I think my absolute favorite was either "The Shape of Nya", "The Benefit of Grief", "The Council of the Crystal King", or "Christofern". Each of those episodes was a masterclass of writing. But then there were also a few stinkers, the absolute worst of which being "Kryptarium Prison Blues". I have never been so genuinely pissed off and disgusted at an episode since the nightmare that was The Island.
Most of the episodes, however, ranged from good to average, so all in all, the season was pretty good. It isn't my favorite, or even in my top five, but it is certainly not bad. Despite all the shit that this season had mixed in with its beauty, in my heart I cannot place it too low on the ranking list. It set out to be a grand finale for the series, and it succeeded, albeit with some pacing issues, a few minor plot holes, some unnecessary baggage, and a little bit of bloat. Nevertheless, it succeeded.
The Overlord isn't the most original villain in the lineup, but his stage presence and power cannot be denied, and his voice is vocal pleasure for the ears. He's definitely one of my favorite villains of the show, and this season really made him shine a lot.
All in all, it's a good season, but flawed.
My final ranking, for now, is as follows: S9 > S14 >>> S8 > S3 > S13 > S6 > S11 (Ice) > S15 > S5 > S11 (Fire) > S12 > S10 >>> S2 > S1 > S4 > S7 >>> Island
S9 takes home the platinum as the ultimate, crowning season of Ninjago. It's gonna be very difficult to beat it. Dragons Rising has its work cut out for it, and I welcome it with open arms when it arrives.

You know, I had a thought: based on what we know, not all of the old Ninja will be present in the new show all at once. We only know that Lloyd will be permanent, but Kai and Nya are the only other OG Ninja seen so far in all the promos, including this one.
I wonder if, aside from the opening scenes with the Merge, we just won't be seeing that much of Wu, Jay, Zane, Cole, or PIXAL this season. Maybe that's part of the story? There were moments of excellent lighting in the later seasons, don't get me wrong, but they were just that: moments. Wider shots didn't get to have that, usually, unlike S8-S10, which had excellent lighting in every single shot.

I swear if Clutch is actually the cause....the show runners kept showing him have the lamp AND we heard him summon Nadakhan the first time around Season 11 I think? Whenever the news kids were introduced...Clutch wants fame and riches, so why not wish to see the other worlds he's heard about from the Ninja AND Nadakhan. And true to the monkey's paw, he gets his wish albeit twisted...

You know, I just realized something: when Ninjago was still in the early seasons, they always had this announcer talking over the trailers and explaining what was happening during that season (in a way that I can really only describe as "so that kids can understand").
Now though, the Dragons Rising trailers are basically the same as any other show trailers, treating the audience as people rather than as little kids. It's a minor detail that's easily missed, but I like that.
