I hate this smug asshole...like, seriously, every other villain has some redeeming qualities that make them likable to an extent. Chen was kooky and talked funny. Garmadon was GARMADON, the king of awesome. Morro was moody but good-hearted, just resentful. The Twins had awesome music and were a good fighting team. The Dragon Hunters were all awesome and were explicit Mad Max references. The Ice Emperor had a great story twist and yet another banger theme. The Skull Sorcerer had a wicked-cool design and reveled in his evilness.
But this dude is literally just pure evil. He has no redeeming qualities. He's just power-hungry, racist, cruel, abusive, and pompous, and has an ego to rival that of Donald Trump.

One word: incredible.
To go from the lowest of the low (The Island) to this masterpiece of animation, emotion, and storytelling, is just simply incredible. I could go on regarding how good the humor was, to how awesome the music was, to how I could sing the praises of the animators until the end of time, but all that just scratches the surface.
To say that this season tops almost every other season in the show is putting it mildly. S9 still just barely edges it out of the top for me, because I'm a sucker for the Mad Max stuff from S9 as well as the monumentally amazing finale for that season and the storytelling in getting there, but again, it just barely beats S14.
Kelmaar was the most vile, disturbing, dangerous, intelligent, and competent villain in the series, bar none. There was no redeeming him. There was no negotiating with him. There was no turning him around. He had no qualms about murder, genocide, torture, manipulation, abuse, regicide, racism, treason, greed, and more. Going in, even the Ninja knew there was only one way to settle the score with him, and that was for him to be gone. Permanently. He deserved an even worse fate than what he got.
In stark contrast, Benthomaar was kind, compassionate, and yet both fearsome and fearless when his friends were in danger and when his people were being led towards evil. He cared so much and suffered even more, and he deserves his hard-fought peace. He was also the true MVP of the season, even more than Nya honestly. This fight was personal to him, and he alone nailed the killing blow against his brother, the mastermind behind it all. Without him, the world would've been lost to chaos and death. He may not be official, but like Dareth, he is a Ninja in my book.
Seabound, like S9, should be the golden standard for Ninjago. With any luck, the new show will be just as good. The only mark against it is the lingering stench of The Island, but luckily my biggest fears weren't realized, and the main story quickly moved on from it to focus on everywhere else.

...That's rough. Like, seriously rough. Zane was always one of the most upbeat Ninja in the group, along with Zane. To remove his own emotions just so that he could continue to work without breaking down at the thought of Nya's loss is just...ow.
And Wu has just thrown himself into endless studying to see if there's a way to reverse Nya's "condition" (presumably).

So, it looks like Nya may just have figured out a way to become herself again, and I think I may have figured it out too. Before she says anything, I'm gonna guess that she's gonna tell the Ninja to use vengestone on her, so that her power is temporarily taken away, and so she then becomes a normal human again. Once that happens, she can then be given her power back.
She may not be Fluttershy in body, but she is in spirit. 💛
And so ends episode 2.
That was gorgeous. Possibly one of the most beautifully-written episodes in Ninjago to date.
Time for episode 3: the Shape of Nya.
And yes, I sea what they did there. :P
Is it just me, or did they update the lighting in this season? It looks gorgeous, practically on par with S8 and S9.
