#Zelda Legend of Link The Legend of

remakes?
no
Oh just ports, that's nice too
Now more people will know those games even exist
hopefully anyway
Appreciate that Nintendo isn't seemingly forgetting about 2D Zelda and still actively do 2D Zeldas too
I'd be down for a new 2D Zelda if they wanted
Time for Link to the Future
why would they forget about 2D Zelda ? that's how the series started
Because it’s the old way of doing things and they may be disinterested in developing further Zelda titles in anything but 3D
It would be a gamble. They did remaster Links Awakening but people were vocally angry about it. (The why would be irrelevant; it’s feedback that tells Nintendo that people don’t want 2D Zeldas anymore)
people were mad about the LA remake ?(???
Yeah, primarily because of the art style
dumb
Very
the artstyle is adorable
Same fervor that made people angry about the Pokémon Diamond & Perl remakes
People were mad that it wasn’t remade into a fully 3D game instead of the original top-down perspective
that's so bizarre lol
Very
And yet it was rabidly available on social media, which is the feedback that Nintendo will see and act on
i see
perhaps that's why we haven't gotten the LA style remakes of the Oracle games
As such, further 2D Zeldas are indeed less likely, given the growing disinterest in 2D Nintendo games by the vocal minority
the anger over diamond and pearl is genuinly funny to me
That’s quite possible
well Nintendo clearly hasn't forgotten about 2d games since one of their big releases this year is a new 2d Mario !
pokemon fans: "Gamefreak is awful! they suck! nintendo should make them give their IP to another company!"
<gamefreak hands the process of doing a remake over to another company, who makes Diamond and Pearl>
pokemon fans: "this is awful"
Honestly it’s the best major Pokémon game to come out in years
I heard it had a number of bugs tbh
but it's really just the reaction to it. Here's a remake that's actually a remake and they complain it wasn't changed
It keeps many of the original bugs from the original games
The real issue is that it underscores just how bad Game Freak is at doing things
my only complaint about BDSP is that the world is still on a grid but your character has complete analog ontrol
control
oh ?
Use the D-pad instead of the joystick
tbf this happened to Wind Waker too
It did
I don't think large companies generally care about knee-jerk anger on the internet, they care about sales
Even Nintendo themselves were hesitant about WW style, it turns out
but I have no idea how LA remake or LBW sold; does anyone have those numbers?
Miyamoto apparently hated it
Miyamoto i love you but sometimes you have very bad takes
It should be available from the last earnings call
There’s a whole thing about Nintendo’s internal argument over the art style of WW, it’s fascinating
6.08 for LA and 4.28 for between worlds
There was a definite divide over it
The use of it was basically forced by a bunch of the workers and the leads just kinda gave up and ran with it, but they were deeply concerned that it wouldn’t sell well.
And indeed the E3 reveal led to a lot of anger from the fanbase, at a time when a realistic style was universally expected due to an earlier tech demo
i think that mostly comes down to that the Switch is a more popular console than the 3ds but idk
And yeah, Twilight Princess is a direct result of that whole saga with WW
in truth... I still kind of dislike WW's style
Like, I get that it's aged a lot better, and I get that it's not actually as bad in motion, but at the same time it's just kind of offputting
I like it a lot better now than I used to, but yeah, it’s just a bit out of place.
It's like ponies, really
i disagree completely. idk something about WW's style appeals to me so much
Like have you ever seen a 3d model of a pony?
I do appreciate what they were going for
it's fucking weird because the head is just so big
i like it a lot more than TP's artstyle
I think SS and later Botw's style are the evolution of WW that I suspect they were trying to get at with WW but didn't successfully do so
yea totally
I could buy that
BotW/TotK feel like a combination of WW and TP to me
WW pushed the GC to its limits
graphics wise i mean
And probably was the better option to get the most bang for your buck anyway
I concur
bobblehead link is offputting
While BotW/TotK are gorgeous, I do want a grittier Zelda akin to TP in the future
darker and grittier WW remake where Link finally talks but only in swears because he's a sailor
It’ll never happen, but the series would shine like no other if they weren’t too concerned about appealing to everyone in the universe
“h*ck”
i don't really think that making a Zelda game grittier is the answer
TotK has sold a billion trillion units without being dark and gritty
See: Aforementioned qualifier.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet also sold a billion trillion units despite being mostly disliked
ive only heard positive things about it myself
Far better execution of the chibi style than bdsp
it’s probably worth adding that when I was growing up and first played WW and TP, I was completely unaware of all this fandom drama context
Really? That’s surprising; I wasn’t using the internet at all at the time WW came out and I was very aware of the drama
the first strong, clear impression I did get from internet fans was “OoT was basically the second coming, you should try that”
I think some people are just more plugged into these things
why is conscious spelled like that
When it matters to overall sales is incredibly hard to tell
the same reason why Resident Evil 1/Silent Hill 1 are the origins of survival horror but you're not gonna see any triple A big developers doing fixed camera survival horror games anymore and everything needs to be either first person or a cinematic OTS shooter gameplay style
modern audiences overall aren't as into these traditional gameplay formats as the modern ones and a lot of people even go the extra step and see them as obsolete in favor of modern formats
Yeah, cos they suck
that being said Link's Awakening was one of the best selling Switch games, I don't remember people saying anything over the artstyle other than some people maybe not liking it but nothing too huge happened like it happened with Windwaker
So yeah, I am happy to see a developer still keep this format alive and keep making it better and better, since Link's AWakening is a remake I don't know how much changed from the original but Link Between Worlds should give me the answer since it's a wholly original game
The same with Metroid Dread, they super stepped up their game and it's probably the best Metroid to play, it feels amazing to actually play and I really appreciate that
only things that changed in the LA remake were some much needed qol changes
like having pegasus boots always bound to r and not needing to switch to the power bracelet when you want to pick up a rock
the luxuries of having more buttons
actually, wait, LttP doesn't need to switch items for either of those things
yeah
speaking of which, I think I've recovered from the whole being outside thing, let's finish this
idk what they were doing on GB lmao
fun fact, Link's Awakening started out as a LttP port for Gameboy
you can see it most in the map, which is extremely sinilar
behold the power of my rinku
the answer has not changed since the last three times you asked lol
That's the kind of thing I talk about whenever I rant about classic survival horror, making these old formats modern or making them better rather than discarding them entirely
kinda like how they fixed so much stuff in the OOT remake for the 3DS with much needed changes like for example the water temple which is infamously a nightmare in original OOT
i dont remember the answer
listen it's my favourite Zelda sword ever lol
if I remember correctly they even said that during development they thought or felt like they were developing a parody of Zelda and it kinda shows considering all the insane stuff in that game, the artstyle on the remake makes more sense too
that entire game is very weird

Majora's levels of weird without the deep harrowing depressive dark atmosphere
👀👀👀
welp, there's still nothing in my inventory which beats this wall

git gud
but at least I found something here
I've not played lttp but if I have to hazard a guess, I'd say you need the bottle
Or the ocarina
the best part is I genuinely do not know if this is a serious suggestion
I haven't played, literally no idea
it's taking every ounce of effort to not tell you the solution
I assumed bombs tho
there's even a white octopus thing in a cave that flat out told me to go here and that "no normal bomb would work"
Well an abnormal bomb then
but the only thing I've found so far that sort of counts as a super bomb is maybe those medallion spells, and none of those work

when I get the triforce I'll smack it on the wall and see if that does it
Lol
wait, there is one thing I didn't try
nope
current guess is the magic cape I still haven't found would let me go in this other hole I can't reach
on to the rest of the overworld
I just realized I don't have the mirror shield
aaaaargh it must not have saved me finishing turtle rock
not in your inventory, no

throws backpack at wall whelp im out of ideas
(I already considered trying to do something with those bomb-throwing cyclopses to do something)
If you want a nudge in the right direction for your cracked wall problem: || since you've already completed the dark world dungeons maybe it'd be a good idea to go talk with some npcs and see what's new, maybe some vendors? maybe a certain greedo perhaps ||
huh, this is a thing I can do
smash him against the wall
for science
yeah this is not the answer lol
Don't overthink it too much
The answer may not end up being as complicated as you think
I've already tried underthinking and overthinking
if it's ever going to come to me, it'll be by doing other stuff
Try just thinking about it!
depending on what the ''other stuff'' you'll do is then yeah, it just might
basically I'm doing one last sweep of both overworlds before the final dungeon
Sounds good
I will cut down every bush in Hyrule

oh no this is the timeline where Link goes insane because he couldn't enter this one hole in the wall and turns into more of a threat than Ganon
the master sword beam does less damage than a direct sword hit, right?
yyyyyes
I think you already have at least 1 upgrade on the master sword so the hits do more damage but the beam is always the same I think
yeah it's orange sword
oh hey I found a new cave
gee, how vague
Spring of Mystery
Maybe try throwing an item into it?
throws master sword
[Achievement: Softlock]
ok that's enough random guessing
what do I throw in here really?
boomerang, bottle and (if this was far earlier in the game) shield apparently
So basically everytime you throw one of your tools into these ponds it gets upgraded, you're gonna want to throw your bow in that pond to get the arrows necessary to end the game, and maybe if you throw something else the fairy might be nice enough to upgrade it too, maybe something pointy and sharp
the bow and sword were the first things I tried
I just looked up the answers since I was just guessing randomly after that
ok this boomerang definitely flies farther now
Oh!!!
That's because that's one of the ponds
whoops

yeah you don't upgrade the bow and sword in that one...
yep, I tried to avoid looking at what the other one does while lookng this up lol
but now the logs will prove I thought of throwing the sword into it on my own
so it's fine
well at least this last sweep got you there
and if you do another sweep and don't find how to get the thing for the thing I'll hint you a bit more directly
and this is why I'm double-checking everything
how'd that get there
Isn't that 17?
after I collected the heart piece I mean
ohh okay
I accidentally the verb
lol, I never tried going under the bridge before because "I've already seen that half of the river"
IT'S BEAUTIFUL
I feel like the menu is expecting a 4th bottle to exist somewhere
huh, Link's still using his shield while swimming
he's gotta hang onto something or else the current will sweep away his tiny lil body
who even are these people that will just stand around in a cave, give you 300 rupees the moment you show up and say "don't tell anyone"
sounds like you're not following their advice
are these counterfeit rupees???
don't worry about it
did you earn them through illegal cucco fights!?
just take the rupees
and don't tell anyone, wakatta?
so anyway I talked to the hand
(I've found this guy before but I never figured out what to do with this clue)
give him toilet paper
hm
considering hes a deku with no other item I think giving him that title deed is gonna doom the world
I guess no one owns that land now
or... I guess technically the paper guy owns it now...
About to become the greates Oracle of Seasons player of all time
afaict there's nothing new in the temple area
I wish I could enjoy the Oracle games but it's one of those games where the limitations of it being so old make me not enjoy my time so much
want a hint?
uh
I'm not sure how you'd know I was missing anything in that area
unless it's the cape or the 4th bottle
Weren't you trying to find what to do about that cracked wall?
sure like an hour ago
so did you get that already?
nope, I told you exactly when I ran out of ideas for it
like I said I've been checking out the rest of the overworld
oh, I thought you were still looking around for that
I've posted at least 2 of the pieces of heart I found
I was asking if you wanted a hint for that
and the 3rd bottle
GREEDO

I mean I'm "still looking" for plenty of things but that doesn't mean I know where any of them are, or that this is the kind of game where I normally would know before finding it
oh is this why Cap wants me to revisit Greedo
No no I know I was just asking if you wanted a little nudge to find the thing is all, just so you don't walk around every inch of both maps for hours although you did spot that other pond and the one heart piece
and the bottle
yep, for today walking around the map for hours actually is the goal
I've never attempted a thorough check of the whole overworld before, and this is the last chance to try it
If you're already planning on going around, do make sure to not only check areas you probably didn't thoroughly go through before but also areas you've already been into and npcs who may have new info, and compare with the dark world too
do my screenshots not imply I've been doing all of those things
Of course I'm just saying
just saying
if you follow the order of locations in them you can tell I'm walking around based on the order that locations are reachable in the dark world, because that makes it easier to compare
You did assume correctly earlier about a specific item you mentioned that I'm not gonna say just in case you wanna find out yourself of course, although it's a bit 'complex' how you get this item which is why I'm just making sure to mention to stay vigilant just in case
sure, I'm ready for the ten stage fetch quests across two dimensions and five NPCs hiding in dungen backrooms that weren't there before
but yeah you're pretty much sweeping everything pretty well before going into the last part
I just need to find where it starts

I figured 18 hearts is a good sign that I haven't been missing too much
anywhere here's the first fortuneteller on my route so let's double-check with my 900 rupees that he still cycles through the same two hints I haven't figured out yet
with the heart pieces I can't help out much because I don't know the order in which you got them or which ones you already have
lol I love how 900 rupees is so much for traditional Zeldas but in BOTW/TOTK you're basically poor with only 900 rupees
I don't think I need more of them lol

You can't even carry that many in OOT, the limit is 500
iirc in TP you can't until the HD version
TP's total is 1000 (2000 in the Wii HD version for some reason, and another new addition in TP HD is the colossal wallet with a limit of 9,999)
not only that but BOTW rupees are so much harder to find
oh god it follows me like a pokemon

I was not expecting an escort mission
bomb friend
yeah as you may be realizing those bombs work differently, it's why I said earlier that you don't have anything that works for the wall in your inventory
oh no the friend can't jump down cliffs
good thing I have 750 rupees
don't pegasus boots either
the damsels could handle pegasus boots so I definitely would've done that, gtk
or, rather, that one fake damsel
didn't have them during the prologue with Zelda
Yep, so just a good ol' regular power walk to wherever you gotta get your friend to with no items or jumping
well I still need the hammer
hemmaer
moment of truth
oh wow they give me a timer
💥

ah yes it's that thing Nire told me about by accident

These are "silver arrows". You absolutely need these to deliver the final blow to Ganon!
yes
so... is this like a true ending thing? or can you not even beat the game without this?
Required item
you need them to beat the game
wow
do you
Nintendo Hard indeed
thought it was bugged and master sword had the same effect
perhaps I'll test that
I'm a little overweight because of Ganon's magic, so please kick his ass

why is that canon
throw every item you have in
lol
now imagine being the guy who finds this spring, throws in 10 different items, doesn't get a lucky guess, and goes off to the final dungeon none the wiser
anyway I've got the banana of destiny now
if I'm not mistaken some guides or articles refered to her as the fat fairy but it was changed to cursed after in most official stuff
No one ever expects the banana
YEAHH WOOHOO THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT
wat
the fortuneteller is still looping through both clues
I was so sure the first clue was about this cracked wall in the ziggurat
I think I'll skip the swamp and desert for now, I basically did a thorough sweep of them back when I found the dark desert dungeon
it's weird how bees never got any easier to kill cleanly
well I guess I could net them

the big key is called boss key in this game how manly
which game?
oracle of seasons
press F to pay respects
did you happen to find some guy near that area or something like that at the time?
I was about to say
there is a guy in a cave in the desert
and he's never done anything

but I also have no idea how to change that
I don't... think that's what I'm thinking about...
(likewise the weird sign guy I tried messing with before but he vanishes on any screen transition and magic powder and such don't do anything)

I all but know something is up with those two
oh i can tell you where to get a bottle
sure does sound pretty weird huh
but first
Well, if it's any help at all I suppose you should keep in mind that the sign guy || is a locksmith||
so should you happen to find anything you need help with on that front, maybe he's your guy
I'm sure || the hand|| you talked to must've mentioned something like that
at least it should've
I'm not clicking on those but 80% odds I already know what they say
I want to think you do but since you did say you had no clue what was up with those guys I assume you either don't or maybe for some reason the game didn't tell you
but I can't tell realy
what I have no clue how to do is get them to do anything interesting
Ahh, well the fact that you're (still) sweeping around I assume will probably lead you to something eventually
you already stumbled into a bunch of things
I think dark woods is another area I did super thoroughly the first time around
come on dig dug I know you have a piece of heart
ok that's enough, keep your secrets
oh yeah, the archery game
Okay wow I actually looked it up really quick and the game does flat out tell you in multiple ocassions
but this is the kind of thing I personally would definitely most likely forget about unless I seek it out immediately after I'm told to be fair
lol
by dark woods you mean the skeleton forest?
probably
this is why I (usually) play games in english other languages tend to change names of stuff and you end up with things like calling Purah Prunia or something
to be clear, I have not transcribed every hint the game gave me because that would be tedious
I know a few things about sign guy, I just have yet to figure out how to do anything with that information
like how I've known for over half my playthrough that I needed a "not normal bomb" for the cracked wall, but not where to get one
Yeyeye I got that I got that
dw, after looking it up I'm certain that you've already encountered any hints I could give
the strongest reaction I got out of that guy so far was "doushite......
"
ok I think I can get all five arrows to hit
4/5
man this is hard
aaaaah another 4
FINALLY
huh, I was really expecting a non-rupee reward for that
At least it didn't take that long to complete
I wonder if they expect the player to finish that early(ish) into the game and not at this point when you basically have a full inventory
ok let's visit the two weirdos before kakariko
I've tried to sweep both kakarikos before but I'm a lot less confident I completed them
you
still can't get anything besides this
if the game let me just ask him about his dark past I would
it's so weird that he has the ability to follow you around but only on this one screen
I've looked under every rock multiple times
I know about the stairs under the one in the middle
srry
it's fine lol
mostly I'm wondering why you asked because the guy down there talks about the east lake cave, not sign guy, and sign guy won't go down there anyway

I completely forgot to check here when I was bringing dwarf twin back
Oh?
it even follows me off cliffs
why is this chest so much more competent than the bomb lol
theeeeere we go

there we go, now I have all four colors of potion at once
well I guess bee is five, but I never use that
this has nothing to do with anything, but
I like Link's shocked face when you pegasus into a wall
huh, the fortuneteller told me about Ganon's tower
nothing I didn't know already, but they never mentioned it before
Bottle getto!
ah he's looping between tower and graveyard
oh you already found my favourite bottle
the one under the bridge with the guy and his comfy tent
so the fortune I originally thought was about the ziggurat wall was really about sign guy's chest, and that's been replaced by the ganon's tower bit
might as well just go straight to the graveyard and try that again
hm
so the gravestone I'm most suspicious of still won't move
the only gravestone that did anything interesting so far is the one that drops me into the tutorial dungeon
so I'm gonna look around that dungeon again
yeah nothing
could I get a hint on this gravestone?
is it the one behind the rocks
this is the one I'm suspicious of because it's the only one I can't move, and yes it's locked behind black rocks
the fortuneteller says there's something in the light world graveyard, and I've already been in that cave up above, so I dunno what else it could be
and at this point, by process of elimination, the cape is either here or halfway through Ganon's Tower
oh cool, that specific gravestone is important in link between worlds
ah, well that all but confirms it's important here
i would be genuinely shocked if it wasnt
fine I'm looking it up
you gotta dash into it
im unsure if i would have figured that out either tbh
but i'd hav probably atleast tried
it's easy to say that now lol
it's still dumb luck that I ever found out pegasus charges could break anything
now where was that piece of heart locked behind the cape...
bingo
all right, I think that's my cue to go fight Ganon
wait dont you need the cape for a dungeon or something?
nope
is it just an optional colectable in that game?
..huh
horribly underutilised item then
or, well
there are two rooms in the game I can recall which require you to walk on spikes
does the cape prevent spike damage?
there's no jump button
the cape lets you jump, doesnt it?
Y’all are making me want to replay LttP.
dewit
nope, this cape just makes Link disappear
oooh
I think the Minish Cap had a jump/glide cape?
going into fight without full hearts
lol of course not
My mind goblins would never allow me
this witch has gotten so many rupees from me
that's more like it
and save in-game so we can't possibly lose any of this
mirror, banana, 18
I hope ALBW will have the same kind of "vague open-ish world but here's some hints for you to actually have a chance at completing these side quests" design of LTTP without going too far into handholding you all the way or going full Souls and having you have to write down every single piece of dialogue and decode its meaning to know what to do
The master banana
That's so yellow it's not even gold
It really is just a sharp pointy banana
now to save scum past the annoying boulders for hopefully the last time
you can get any item at any time
i really liked ALBW
That's good to hear
I just noticed, is your name Rinku?
yep
Is that the default jp name or is it "LINK" or something?
yes
there is no default
the only default is default dance
do you remember that tunnel of spikes that led to the cane
I remember you telling me cape was the intended strat yes
which is actually the only reason why I guessed the cape prevents spike damage
otherwise... why would it?
it's not like Link is hovering while he's invisible
it's magic
I even fell into a whole while cloaked so I know that's a thing
well, sure, just weirdly unintuitive magic
it prevents fall damage? lol
I might just go with Link whenever I play ALBW rather than putting my name
there's no fall damage in this game
oh
unless you count bottomless pits
but falls that land somewhere are always harmless
I still don't know how I'm supposed to get this one
fall from above?
there is no above, this is the top of the world lol
To be clear cape doesn't prevent fall or just spike damage it prevents all damage
but I agree that it's a bit confusing since invisibility =/= invulnerability
it's also weird that it lets you walk through that bouncer thing
without the sign I never would've known to try that
oh well the cape has barely any usage so being underexplained isn't a big deal
Yeah it's entirely optional
the dark world maybe? is the map different in dark world?
I was about to say they probably want me to mirror onto the heart piece from here
but last time I was here I couldn't figure out how to get there
waaaaaait a second
(i might have looked it up)
what is going on here
does the cape have a maximum range???
wait, I can walk onto that void without the cape
why would the cape let you walk on air
Cape doesn't make you float
see the last ten questions about the cape
no
it's literally less weird than everything it does do
i cant read
It's just like magic armor of sorts
welp time to brute force this invisible bridge I guess
I saw the black void and I was gonna say use the glide boots but then I remembered those are from OOT not LTTP
isnt there an item that cam help with bridges?
*invisible things
whatever you know what i meant
Quick, try everything!
i actually dont know

i already forgot what i looked up

no idea what I was supposed to do but that wasn't hard to brute force once I randomly bumbled into there being invisible paths
What a scam :rdannoyed:
Nice that the game even allows that
I like that
same vibe as when I tanked all the spike damage because the game never told me the cape exists
bingo
oh huh
5 left
that little gap in the wall lets you jump down to the rest of the mountain
ok now we are no kidding going for Ganon
Brute forcing it is the answer
Can’t make the paths show up
something something power of teamwork

its the elements of harmony! and spike!
this might take a while
hmmm
perhaps the cape is fireproof
it is actually
this is either going to look very badass or very lame
mostly lame
oh I love this kind of puzzle
one of the medallions, i can't remember which, reveals invisible paths
huh
i believe it's the lighning one ?
I don't remember anything hinting at that, though maybe I skimmed their descriptions way back when I found them
speaking of
those are not flying enemies
well now you get to experement which medalion reveals paths
I already went somewhere else but next time I'm down here I will
It's everything proof!
Well except kneecap shattering proof since you do still die from falls and pits
Weird that a cape of all things grants inmunity but hey
it turns you into a ghost
or puts you between the light and dark world
or something
oh this is a cute puzzle
huh, in this room lighting the brazier makes previously invisible paths show up, no medallion spells involved
yep, this is a hint room
it led me right back to ^here, and this room also has a brazier just barely in range
good dungeon
oh is the basement a boss rush
despite the ice floors, silver arrows made that a lot easier than the first time

nope just the one boss
oh we're changing colors again
Yeeaaah
Red tunic ftw
Looking badass
That's one of the things I noticed they kept for OOT
Though in OOT it's literally just a full color swap at least here you get neat alt hat colors too
all right, that's the lower floors fully explored
map says the upper floors are much smaller than 1F was
very clever Ganon
that barely visible red enemy would be a pain if I couldn't see it coming
I can also hear a moving spike distinct from the visible ones
it takes a truly evil mind to put a beamos on a conveyor belt
aaaaand the next room is this plus ice floors
oh we are doing a boss rush after all
all right, I've used up all my health potions, but I did bottle two fairies in the basement, and I have 14 hearts, so save state this might just work
oi, you're not Ganon
theeeeere we go
apparently that boss arena wasn't good enough for the pig
you beat Darth Vader now you have to fight the Emperor
ah, the game puts a save point between these two boss fights, thank hylia
second try, I got far enough for him to do more trash talking
and ran out of magic in a phase that needs it
ok, I've placed a save state at this line of dialogue; there are enough phases to this fight it'd be no fun to keep repeating the early ones
that's three silver arrows, come on...

I think this is endgame
"spirit of the triforce", that's a new one
and credits
huh, Zelda's dad has a sprite
I thought you died?

these credits name a few characters that were not named in the game
"forever", right
Venus!

And Ganon is vanished... Forever!
And we will never see him again
tbf I don't think I've seen the pigman with a silver pitchfork Ganon in any later Zelda
ALBW
oh right
that would make sense
also it turns out if you fall off the edge in those later phases, you end up in another part of the ziggurat which has a message saying you need to hit him with silver arrows when he's stunned; so if you did not happen to discover silver arrows on your own you would at least have a plausible way to find out you need to go looking for them (albeit it's not much to go on for finding them lol)
And Oracle games
ok so basically the whole Defeated Hero timeline
congrats ix ! you saved Hyrule !
Ganon in OOT had double swords rather than a pitchfork and was less of a fat pig and more of a cool boar pig thing
why am i penked
One of my favorites

I like it
so did the King, Link wished that everything and everyone was restored to how they were before Aganihm and Ganon did the bad
oh this I was not expecting
my save state scumming probably made a mess of these stats but still, here they are
also:
Gannon's Tower

oh there was one last bit
what does this mean
given how the save system works, I assume this is how many times you "started" the game, counting both dying and reload, and every time you simply turned on the console and loading your save file
had I attempted to do this legit it'd likely be a far, far higher number
I don't remember dark palace being particularly hard, maybe it was just a dungeon where I was most comfortable dying and reloading at the entrance repeatedly without feeling the need to save state later on?
i first played this on the GBa i had no luxury
so my strongest, unexpected impression of LttP overall is
did you like it
I honestly kept forgetting it was a SNES-era game
and I mean that in a good way
every few hours I'd interact with the save system and go "oh, right, it really is that old" but nearly everything else is much higher quality than I would've expected for this era
oh, here's another example: up til now all of the credits could've passed for a GBA-era game, but apparently it just stops on this final screen and doesn't go back to the main menu or respond to any button inputs
I assume it's expecting you to just turn the machine off at this point
yes
I definitely enjoyed the relative freedom and non-linearity compared to some other Zeldas, you've heard me compare it to Tunic at least once already
and although there is a weirdly persistent trend for nearly every Zelda to have several moments where the next mandatory action is imo unfairly obtuse and I simply cannot progress without looking something up online, LttP had fewer of those than I feared, with the grand total being maybe 5? 6? throughout the entire game
Now Ixrec joins the group of people that will forever praise lttp
and it was a longer game than I expected
what will you play now
and I guess I should restate I would not want to play this without save states
but where that sort of thing falls into how "good" the game is messy
I have a copy of LBW on 3ds

I also see why this is such a popular randomizer game now
Should I explore more of the depths or go to Hateno first hmmmm
it feels practically made to be randomized, even compared to most other Zeldas
i love watching randomised LttP
I guess I should mentally prepare to start LBW, hasn't even been a week since I finished TOTK but I think I'll enjoy it a lot because TOTK was already exhausting me
half the time I was playing it normally I was unsure if I'd gotten somewhere early, or late, or with more or fewer items than "intended", and often just made it work anyway
tanking the spikes to Cane of Byrna being the best example
Gonna post pics of my map progress real fast
good timing, I just finished monopolizing the channel with my LttP screenshots
What do you all suggest, Hateno Village or more Depths
Wait fuck it I'm gonna go look for Hestu
it's so weird to me that everyone had to go looking for Hestu
I wasn't even aware of his existence until ||I bumped into him on the road to Rito Village, and he just said he'd be in Lookout Landing so... that's where I went to go find him later, until I did lost woods stuff||
Damnit I missed him then
Probably because I flew lmao
Do you remember specifically where he is ||on the road to Rito Village||?
||not precisely, but it was after the bridge with the sleeping hynox, on a hill with evil trees because he was cowering in fear until I killed the trees, and I'm pretty sure it was before Great Tabantha Gorge or whatever it's called||
Much thanks
AaaaaaaAAAAAAA
Oh it seems his location can change
great
Found him
His location for me was ||Lookout Landing because I had completed one of the temples. Had I been earlier in the story he'd be on some bumfuck nowhere road NW of Lookout Landing||
that makes sense
I think there’s more than one
||by the end of my playthrough I’d found ~10 gleeok locations, 2-3 of each type||
me: isn’t it so quiet up here… let’s play 21 questions i’ll go first what’s your fave thing about being a dragon :3c

Activate Windows
someone needs to activate windows
I doubt we want to fully synchronise this, but I’ll likely be starting LBW in a few hours
but first, a LttP speedrun
who is the runner
I'm hardly educated on LttP speedruns but from a quick look at google hits I went with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn6GCfkwPvE
Runner introduction starts at 2:25
Run starts at 3:21
Run restarts at 4:32

"since this is a no exploration glitch run, the first thing we're going to do is set up exploration glitch"
ok this might be the most glitch-heavy run I've watched in a while
the poor commentator barely gets to breathe
I was gonna ask if you wanted to start LBW right away or if you wanted a bit of a cooldown period of a few days or something since we've kind of been binging Zelda
I really didn't play it last night though, the game really wants you to know how the save function works so it won't let you proceed unless you save and it was just a test run so I didn't want to save (it autosaves though so it didn't end up mattering
)
I guess that's already kind of good from the get go, this is the last Zelda game that came out before BOTW so I'm interested in seeing how it's like
Although I guess triforce heroes is actually the last one before BOTW but who cares about that game am I right
"right away" as in today, sure, this is more a cooldown from work / commute than from Zelda or games
If you wanna go right away today that's fine, I mean I doubt we're gonna be fully in sync of course
but just like with TOTK we can go in parallel, I honestly got more burned out from TOTK specifically than Zelda in general, playing that game for 2 months straight did slow me down with my work both personal and commissioned work but something tells me ALBW will not have an iron grip on my life as much as a huge game like TOTK did
indeed, if there is such a thing as a single game having too much content, TotK is dangerously close to if not slightly over the limit
For me it definitely crosses over into way too much content, especially when I started getting through all the quests I piled up throughout the game and found that only really a handful were worth doing and the rest kind of blend together because of now inconsequential and honestly un-fun they are
I know I did the lightroots all in one go which unlike the towers is more like hunting for every shrine in the game so I know I probably feel stronger about them myself but even then the fact that the devs just kinda pat you in the back or laugh at you by giving you a literally useless item adds to that frustration and feeling of there being too much stuff that is just kind of useless
yeah I think they're designed to be done as you find them, not in marathons
Especially in a game where so much more could have been done with the story and characters and they just... didn't
that last part was amazing all the way and I wanted more of that
oh, I hope you weren't expecting more story than that?
what do you mean?
uh
that it sucks to have an unmet expectation more than a "I knew they wouldn't but it would've been nice"?
not sure what you're asking
Ahh okay okay I the wording of that kinda confused me a bit, but yeah I did totally hoped for TOTK to be a return to a more traditional formula at least when it came to the presentation of the story, have a little more in there
I don't know if I expected it because a part of me kind of knew that it wouldn't happen, but I hoped
Again though I did say numerous times I enjoyed TOTK over BOTW myself unfortunately though it's only because the games already feel so incredibly similar that TOTK feels like the finished or upgraded version to BOTW's prototype
But yeah, I did definitely hoped for a bit more meat in TOTK story wise
ok I'm feeling like it's LBW time
should I spoiler tag everything if/while I'm ahead?
uhhmm....
yyyeah sure, why not, although it's gonna be hard to know when one of us is ahead of the other
I guess we can exchange notes as we go
I'm sure there will be non-spoiler ways of saying it, like I have the red medallion or you have the master sword
oh right, I need to learn the controls
apparently it's the same as LttP controls
Shouldn't bee too different
Let me know if you come across any of that sweet modern stuff that you had issues with in alttp :sunsetbounce:
I know the autosave is already pretty nice
don't worry about it
don't look at that
Yeah but you'll never figure out how to get it
just look at those rocks what the hell are you gonna do
speaking of sweet modern stuff
furigana!
in a completely different font from the main text for some reason but still
Reminds me how in the Majoras Mask randomizer you can peek whats on top of the clock tower check in the intro cutscene
for stupid people like me!!!
I'm guessing the font is slightly pixelized so that it doesn't lose quality or sharpness due to how small it is, remember this is on a 3DS screen
you can see how the actual font are getting blurry already
indeed
first actual challenge: figuring out how to walk, because apparently it's not the arrow keys
Uhhhh IJKL?
nope

maybe they're not mapped?
the answer will always be to check your emulators' key maps
these are mine but this is Citra not RetroArch
they are indeed not mapped
what a weird default config
I'd better get my gamepad for this, looks like any mapping will be strange if I try to turn analog sticks into keys
Could be, I think this game does allow you for full 360 degree movement so with a pad it'll probably feel more comfortable but since I don't have a controller i've gotten way too used to the keyboard myself
indeed, if I hadn't just played LttP I probably would've started with my gamepad plugged in like I normally do anyway
oh yeah it has default mappings for my gamepad
lol L3 flips the screens
why would I do that
oooh, right stick is mapped to touch pad, with R3 for tap
that's a nice option to have
ok playing the actual game time
first off
wtf are you doing here
oooh it has discoverable save points too
My guess? They probably put that there as a tease for Majora's Mask 3DS
unless you were there, you had no idea how much people cried and whined for that game
makes sense
ok so in this one we're a blacksmith apprentice/son(?) rather than the nephew of a knight
oh no, I hope nothing terrible happens to the knight who left his sword behind that'll force us to hang onto it for half the game
I love that everyone is wearing the green tunic with the little cap
and that they call Link an idiot for needing to ask where Hyrule Castle is

||I already know about the flattening yourself onto walls mechanic so this is clearly related. But that design specifically reminds me of the LttP knights.||
ok water is still lethal at the start of the game
oh yeah, and the save points have names
listen, Link may be the hero but that doesn't mean he's academically gifted.... or literate
compared to LttP's intro, this is practically a slow burn
we've gone a whole five minutes without anyone being in possibly mortal danger
oh there we go
Yeah ALTTP and LBW are 22 years apart and in all that time pretty much every single Zelda game after lttp came out so I'm sure this is at least gonna have a bit more story to it than lttp
I think anyways...
plus they have space on the cartridge for that sort of luxury
ok I'm done robbing every grave in the graveyard, now I'll save the guy

yup
like the entire map
I don't think they intended this to be played literally one day after someone's first ever LttP experience
I'm comparing how many flower tiles are between a certain pair of trees
ah, even the item progression is starting with lantern again
Interestingly enough I remember reading some debate surrounding whether or not this is even meant to be a direct sequel to alttp despite being named literally kamigami no triforce two in JP
nice, it actually lights up the area around you this time
Seems like the general idea is that it's the same world/continuity but it still takes place a long time after lttp
I mean I suppose it could've been a prequel
but the moment you wake up you can see the world map, and it is so obviously LttP's world map
Yeah, it is, it's kind of the same as OOT with TP and WW
except... without the weird timeline shenanigans
that sort of 'sequel'
there's a very welcome modern standard: darkness is no longer solid black, hollywood blue is in effect
You may find that stuff is a bit lighter in the game since it is made for a portable 3Ds screen, but from what I can see there it looks pretty alright that it won't be an issue
a big concern with Majora's Mask 3DS for example was that a lot of the moody atmosphere was completely replaced with a more colorful brighter vibe for example I'm assuming part of it was due to it being a 3DS title and needing to look bright for people who play outside
heheheh ||the left switch is the correct one this time, that'll fool LttP players||
looks like door types follow the same rules
liking the villain's design/intro
though it's a novelty that the villain even gets introduced
ah, so this is that guy I first learned about by stumbling onto his mask in TotK
omg my sword has the power to break pots
lol, I wish I had bombs to see what's going on with this cave
I think that was the earliest I could've possibly bought a shield
Ravioli or something like that
That's another lttp thing
Game is very open
Yeyeye
was about to say Ravio was not in LttP
From what I hear you can do anything at any time, at least I hope
after that little prologue sequence, I suspect that's true
So maybe we'll be taking different paths
but I'll go broadly in order for now since I don't have any of the basic items so I'd just find a bunch of inaccessible stuff
Have at it
oh Impa's in this
I don't think she was in LttP
oooh the LBW map has custom pins
now that is a modern feature
I'm gonna mark these ||oddly tall towers with eagle crests that I'm very sure were not there in LttP||

How custom are we talking, just a dot or cute little icons like TOTK?
just a pin
also very much appreciate the silhouette when walking underneath stuff
A little too big
but it is a 3ds....
not to mention that guard watching me from above lol
Lol that one guard peeking
"who's this lost child...?"
Yeah the game looks awesome so far

"Where are you going? Impa told you to wait"
did the game not let you do something?
it me!
only momentarily
ah so that's Zelda's design
"wow Link! You sure look a lot like the legendary swordsman!!!
.... Too bad you're not of course"
Here comes da girl
oddly enough we just brought that up, but I'll call spoilers on the details for now
Kawaii deshou?

I guess I guessed correctly lol
I might start it myself too later maybe
||huh... very curious what Zelda's charm does||
the rewards for unnecessary exploration continue
Almost clicked that
favorite random guard comment: "Zelda's incredible, ruling a country at her age. When I was that young I was still chasing cuccos around."

I mean... They are teens in these games
And Zelda's mom is always suspiciously never around...
Dead mom syndrome
At least Zelda's dad is around... Sometimes, we have seen him and we know him
But her mom? Never, nada
I assume it's maybe implied that all of them are a Zelda?
So Zelda's mom is just... Zelda
the King is only around for the credits he's dead the rest of the game
oh like explicitly dead, not just absent or temporarily zapped by magically reversible bad guy stuff?
no he's legit a skeleton in the intro cutscene lol
derp
come to think of it I might've never watched the complete intro cutscene

When I saw the skeleton sitting on a throne with a crown as a kid I thought that was the final boss of the game
I'm assuming a lot of kids playing Zelda didn't know Ganon especially if it was their first
it doesnt really matter how different he is because they dont show him before the end of the game
iirc OoT's approach to non-dorf Ganon is more or less the standard for all the later ones
so it's a reasonable expectation
this is fair
oh, "Lon Lon Ranch" got a mention, pretty sure that wasn't in LttP
I can't buy milk without a bottle
oooh some of these houses in Kakariko have that one building interior theme I remember from OoT
I take it we're getting the bug net differently this time
lol, the game keeps asking me if I should take a break when I save
ok so this merchant's mostly the same
"hint glasses", that's new
I think that's the exact same wording LttP fairies used
and I'm feeling tired earlier than usual tonight so I think I'll stop here before trying to get into what I assume is the first dungeon
TIL that one of the secret rooms in Zelda 1 just had a guy who insists you pay for blowing up his door
Actually nope, the opposite entirely
OOT's Ganon never shows up again
TP's Ganon isn't even a boar-man, just a full on boar
WW doesn't even have a Ganon
And BOTW/TOTK's is also a boar thingy
what I mean is Ganondorf stays humanoid for most of the game and only after you fight him a bit does he turn into this huge beast form called Ganon and that often requires Zelda's help to finish off
Im gonna say puppet ganon counts
as opposed to how in LttP he just doesn't exist until the last five minutes when he's all pig no dorf
Well Ganondorf doesn't have that many appearances as it is and with the exception of 1 where it's a brand new reincarnated Ganondorf he's always the same guy, but yeah everytime he does appear he's mostly gerudo until he transforms into his true(?) form
I guess in TP it was Midna's help for the boar and Zelda helped with a later human stage
still, that's the formula I'm familiar with in every post-OoT / non-Defeated Hero timeline game
Yeah until you have the epic duel
For some weird reason I really like the defeated hero timeline, something about it
It's pretty much where most of the traditional 2D zeldas are at with exceptions
I like the aesthetics of the games in that branch, feels very western medieval inspired ish
the funny thing is that every Zelda is pretty much western medieval inspired but something about the defeated hero timeline gives me that feeling a lot more, don't know how to describe it
The audacity of Nintendo to claim theres a "defeated hero" timeline when I've beaten OoT twice this summer
Always hated that tbh
I never really thought about how weird it is before
but I guess it's interesting having a world where the hero doesn't quite make it but you risk going into the realm of multiverses and pretty much endless possibilities and scenarios
In this timeline Link fails against Ganon
...in this other timeline he randomly jumped from a ledge too high and broke his neck
oh wow the game really wants to make sure you want to delete the save file huh
that's neat
''It's impossible to read what the sign says from here''

alright then keep your secrets
is she supposed to be our mom?
hi mom
oh hah I actually do have the sword wrapped up in cloth on my hand, they don't just make me hold the sword like a weapon, that's a good detail
gravedigger with that rizz, talking with the daughter of the royal guard captain
lol
''you have a sword! You can go take a look!''
Link: ''what sword?
''
god this Zelda 1 art is so badass
pretend i put a moth emoji
