Finally here.
defo a game i gotta play nmore when i got time and finish factorio space ex
this game is destroying my life

It will take over for a while in my experience.
I got as far as starting a solar collection swarm
I don't recall the level of science or research i got to
I remember spending a very long time getting a constant deuterium supply going
I have an automated mining colony on another planet. It ships materials to my main base
I don't remember if i was ready to expand to the next thing, or if i was trapped in bottleneck hell
I was about to start making one of those around a different star from where I started. I never got around to completing it, though; other things came up.
I never left my starting solar system
omg me too
I think I'm going to copy the seed and reset the planet because I fucked up badly
I'm 20 hours into this second game and I think I'm actually quite a bit behind, idk
the real game doesn't start until you manage to travel to the next galaxy
Like I don't get it
I'm constantly underpowered, but in order to get power you need a lot of stuff and half the time my production lines end up falling apart
I also wish the UI for the interplanetary logistics was a big clearer. It's really hard to tell if it's working as intended
these types of factory games i spend a lot of time in bottleneck hell
yeah
"where the fuck did all my iron go"
"why is my science belt not going"
"god damn it i need more circuits"
I have so much goddamn hydrogen that it's clogging my oil refinary pipeline
oh that too
Logistics bots help a bit
i think i ended up building a few giant hydrogen towers to soak up all the excess
being able to stack tanks and labs is such a great thing in DSP compared to factorio
you need refined oil for so much chemistry too, it's very frustrating
and refined graphite!
getting solar sail production fully automated was such a relief for me, i just routed them to my cannons to launch them at the star into the swarm orbits
I've not even made it that far
I can't really figure out the use of the planetary logistics towers. It'd be different if they could harvest from non-towers and then redistribute from them, but you need at least two
Maybe on a really big (non moon) planet it'd make more sense
yeah those are better for interplanetary logistics
intraplanetary is better on larger planets probably, but i never colonized any big ones that needed it
the other thing: how do I look at other planets and see what veins they have?
it seems implied by the second tier of the exploration technology but ''viewing' a planet just lets me look at a hologram... which isn't particularly useful
You have to unlock a few more tiers of that research from what I remember.
I opted for burning all the excess oil and hydrogen/deuterium for power.
the sulfur thing really annoys me; you need loads of it for basically everything after tier 3 or whatever, but it's very difficult to make
Is when exploring off-world becomes handy. Some planets have resources that make the production chain less complicated.
Maybe I need to reroll then
i needed to go off-world for something important, i don't remember what
there's only 4 local planets, one is an ice giant, one is the home planet, and the other two are a barren desert and lava planet
the Barren desert is basically a lava planet without the lava though. No silicon and no lava to build geothermal plants in
Ice giant is nice.
i recall gettign an orbital station around the ice giant making things a lot easier
i think it was silicon i needed from off-world
there wasn't much of it
but more than at home
Doing that gave me more hydrogen than I could deal with at the time.
Silicon and titanium are the two resources that seem to be in short supply on the home world.
There is just enough to kick-start everything, but you have to go off-world to continue progressing.
clever
oh apparently you can get a material from ice giants that can be refined into graphene without using sulferic acid
ah, that must have been what made it so nice
So-called "fire ice".
Did they give it a less odd name in the year or so since I last played it?
man i'm gonna have to fire up my game again aren't i
i have too many ongoing games already

I want to see if what I have still works after these updates.
Methane clathrate (CH4·5.75H2O) or (8CH4·46H2O), also called methane hydrate, hydromethane, methane ice, fire ice, natural gas hydrate, or gas hydrate, is a solid clathrate compound (more specifically, a clathrate hydrate) in which a large amount of methane is trapped within a crystal structure of water, forming a solid similar to ice. Original...

Looking at my factory reminds me of looking at code I wrote several months ago.

I can figure it out, but it probably will take me a bit.
It seems that, before I took my break from the game, I was working on transporting charged accumulators between a windy desert planet and another planet I was setting up a big iron smelter on.
I'm basically sitting here hand feeding a set of fusion reactors because I can't automate it yet
i did that with my nuke plants in factorio until i got my remote uranium train running
apparently they're adding combat of all things
hmm
buh
apparently you can launch solar sails and use the ray receiver to obtain the power they generate
Is a neat thing.

I get the feeling this program may require a more powerful computer
I had so much trouble setting this up
At first I set it up and it was like 'okay but can I make them fire for longer? so I google it, and google says 'place the guns at the poles' So I do. But it doesn't work. and I think, well, maybe this pole is always night so it won't work, so I'll try the other pole. And it doesn't work either. then I google it again and googles like 'actually you should do 30degrees. and you know what? I started at 30 degrees! fml
i think i just put mine wherever and got lucky
my next push probably should be to get warp travel
this game needs a gooddamn spreadsheet that tells you where everything is
wow I'm dense. I've been trying to use fire ice for hydrogen.... completely forgetting that the gas giant I was mining HAD HYDROGEN
Quite compact.
Man you're really gonna get me to open my save back up aren't you
Do it.
I've finally figured out this game, I think
it's not really about building a dyson sphere, it's about making matrices
the dyson sphere is just free energy
Is it Gibbs' energy?
you know it!
That sounds spontaneous
I wish I could put more than 10 logistics vessels on a tower... and control where that tower sent the vessels
I really need to unlock antimatter so I can repower my mech in long warps
I'm currently sitting in deep space, 9.52 lys from the target system
all I wanted was some unipolar magnets :_:

One thing that gets me is that you have antimatter reactions
But you put the antimatter into an “artificial star”
But stars are powered by fusion not m/a reactors
*reactions
I wonder why this is
Might be a translation thing.
Yeah
I'm like 33 minutes from total victory when my powergrid starts shitting itself.
I realize that I'm not getting enough critical protons from the ray receivers... or power.
I look, and buh, my whole dyson swarm is gone.
I knew, of course, that the dyson sphere itself consumed the swarm sails to construct itself, but I had set it up to continually regenerate the swarm so there'd be a) construction material for the sphere, and b) power/protons.
So I hurry over to my EM ejector planet and realize, to my horror, that my production of sails had stopped at some point and they hadn't been firing off new sails for probably an hour. What happened? well, early in the production I had set up the planet so that it would pull in graphite from remote, only to realize after the fact that calling in fire ice and cracking it on the surface was a better choice. Since I had a large storage of it already in the terminal, I set up a couple of storage buildings and drained the excess into those buildings so I could delete the 'buy' order in the terminal and replace it with something else. Except I had never hooked it back up. It was working for a while but it just stopped.
So I started draining the stored graphite into the construction grid only to realize that the rails aren't firing off enough sails per minute to actually grow the swarm. So I had to temporarily cut my rocket launcher and build a lot more rails to try and rebuild the swarm. It's working, but what a chore
That do be how it go sometimes
I also tried to start a remote antimatter operation but it turns out it’s hard to ship particle containers so I don’t have graviton lenses to make it worth it

the worst problem with a game like this is that there's not really a whole lot of reason to play it again lol
Makes me think of Minecraft or Factorio.
Bright side is that this game is still in development so more stuff may come.
blue prints are op
neat
I need to make new blueprints. I had a mod that implemented that feature before this update.
It took 127.5 hours but my dyson sphere (one shell) is complete)
I feel like I've discovered something of an exploit: energy exchangers!
one exchanger, consuming one battery, will produce 45 MW of power for 6 seconds
It's not hard to set up a free energy planet with solar or wind and just transport the batteries back and forth
two exchangers munching on 200 batteries is more than enough discharged power for my whole current planet
oof
I just found part of my grid running on 11% power. It looks like it was a whole oil extractor plus multiple refiniers trying to run off a single wind turbine
i hope it was really windy
I was trying to set this up in my last session a few weeks ago.
imo the solar ones are easier to set up
just put three or so belts around the equator
My approach as well.
I started a new game and it's like... kind of hard mode. Outside of the home system, there's no gasgiants within 4 light years, and somehow the home system is very iron poor
I've played this game for like 150 hours and only just realized... I don't NEED to have the cubes in my inventory to do research
i accidentally until 4am again
Combat System: Rise of the Dark Fog will be free update in 2023 Dec.

DSP achevements for dark fog just dropped
These look like they're gonna be craaazyyyyy
🌞 🛡️
Has the update dropped?
apparently it's coming out on the 15th
I still dunno if it'll add fun to the game or just frustration
this is sick. The signal tower lets your missile hit stuff from anywhere on the planet
Oh hell yeah
Got my first offworld outpost set up. silicon and titanium mining, plus copper mining for turret defense. I also got structural materials (yellow science) set up in under 6 hours this time. The 2nd playthrough is way faster. Go figure!
turret defense?
i don't remember if this game has enemies and i just play on peaceful like i do for factorio, or if they added them in a later update
Yeah, got to defence the base while I'm back home
This released
ah
I lost my original save when I reset my computer so I guess I have an excuse to give this a try.
Sucks about the original save 😕 but yeah have to start over anyway
i get to about the point i'm building mining ouposts on gas giants and i just stop
i'm very bad at keeping it going past that
I feel you there. All those excess resources are tedious to manage.
I got around it by building a lot of fuel plants to burn the excess flammables.
lol... the default, starting base got this. Had no idea it was even an achievement.
I get the impression that they intended it to be a much more difficult achievement to get
Yeah 😂
lol
lol
I thought I'd try taking on the base on the string world. They're tough. No luck. They seem to have a never ending supply of mobs, so I think the only way is to completely rip them apart in one attack
string world?
dark fog plays the game kind of like how the player does; they need mass and energy. If you destroy the relay station I believe they lose access to energy eventually and can't rebuild lost units, and destroying the core does the same, obviously
Anyone have a good build/video for early game chemicals? I've been following designs/videos/blueprints by the Nilaus youtube channel, but he seems to skip over the chemical plant part of things and I have no idea how to design something right for a chemical plant production line
Last time I played like a year ago, one of the things that frustrated me most was the chemical production line so i don't want to repeat that
I always end up winging it
uh
🍝
tbh I'm not sure there is a 'good' set up for chemisty. The whole oil pipeline sucks ass, and I think the standard method is to just suffer through it until you can start producing warpers and then go grab the the rare ores that let you bypass most of it
I suggest using fluid storage between the refineries and the oil rig though
ooo!! Right on. Patch notes: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1366540?emclan=103582791468239772&emgid=4157463936691414849

Right when i finish a run too
gonna try a new save, haven't played in a long time
the annual christmas dyson sphere.
time to continue
What, no play by play screenshots?
i'm streaming it in vc
my swarm

got to the point of researching interstellar logistics, but i got a lot of manual work to do with titanium before i can get it automated
