its one that lets the adjusting arm thing ratchet properly, so its got proper grooves to make it click into place, but i think a regular rubber washer will work well enough for something i dont intend to adjust much
my setup uses plasterers support poles and camera/lighting clips, makes it easier to setup and takedown with no wall damage

Favorite ghost type(s)? They can be past or present variations.
Personally always have a soft spot for the Jinn since it was my first ghost I found on the original Asylum (and yes I did Asylum first back then I was crazy). I used to believe that because they were the electronic ghost that they were more likely to flicker the lights and affect electronical equipment (I believed the last part because I didn't know about their 25% sanity drop ability and my emf picking up on it when I wasn't standing near any item so I was always confused).
One of my current favorite ghosts is the mare because of how they behave in the light. Doing a no evidence run against them is a lot of fun because you can lead them out of a room by turning on the lights and seeing if they'll wonder out using the sensors and have them potentially change ghost rooms. Then you can repeat that to see if they'll go into another room that's dark. I also love that they're more likely to destroy lights and can instantly turn off light switches you turn on.

It may not be as immersive without the headset but it's certainly a lot of fun with the several additions and changes they've made if you haven't played in a while. Starting from level 1 and using the tier 1 items is quite the learning curve but makes for a fun challenge!

Go for it! They've updated their tutorial and it's pretty good if you need a refresher. They also have a "challenge" mode where they give you items for free and you don't lose anything on death! I don't remember what this week's challenge is but they're usually pretty tame.

Had a very interesting game on the Edgefield map last night. Was playing with 0 evidence and 0 sanity to start. I threw some equipment into the house before setting foot and as soon as I was prepared I stepped in and immediately I heard a very distinguishing sound that at first I couldn't believe I had heard but couldn't connect that sound to any other sound I knew from the game.
The crucifix had been used from the truck and I had barely heard it being used when I had walked in. My immediate thoughts following "Huh?" were "It must be a demon" upon figuring out what the noise was. Now, given the distance to the house I had initially assumed it was inside the garage. So, I decided to start moving stuff towards that direction, including the crucifixes. Moving the crucifixes had been a mistake. As soon as I stepped in the hunt started, so I darted to the nearby couch and waited in anticipation and much to my confusion the ghost appeared from the upstairs stairs. I smudged the ghost during the hunt, preventing it from killing me and pausing its attempts at hunting for a short while. Typically when you use the smudge stick on a ghost it can't hunt again for another 90 seconds, but this ghost started immediately after 60 a very obvious indicator that it's a demon only further proving my initial thought. What's interesting is that at the start, the crucifix had prevented a hunt, but a hunt that started from the upstairs, which appears to be barely level with the crucifixes in the truck. The ghost's room is shown in the second photo, not the garage but the upstairs bedroom. I did manage to complete all the objectives and gather a full book of photo evidence but it was a hard fought battle. The demon quickly demolished my crucifixes when I moved them to the appropriate ghost room and ate through my last remaining smudge sticks, leaving me with hardly anything to defend myself by the time I managed to do everything that mission. It was a very good game, and ironic how I managed to get one of the worst possible ghost matchups when doing a 0 sanity run.

I also occassionally dip into other games that are much like Phas but have there own spin. Usually when they're updated. I'd say my other two favorites that I've tried and still enjoy are Forewarned and Demonologist. I do have my eyes set on trying Conrad's Stevenson's Paranormal PI and Ghost Exorcism INC. at some point or another.

The Halloween update is coming soon, supposedly around the 26th. The new addition of the reception to Maple Lodge looks really nice and I'm glad that map is getting more work and love. My favorite part of that map has always been the cabin. Now, here's to hoping that Camp Woodwind gets some attention at some point as well, especially considering that CJ (one of the devs) says he worked on, and completed the map in a day as a last-minute addition for a previous patch. It certainly shows.

It does. So, it has a sanity threshold for hunting that is 70% and lower but it also has the special ability that allows it to randomly hunt at any sanity. It's rare though and I haven't seen it hunt above 70% in a while now.
I kind of miss the banshee having that ability. Thematically I think it makes sense the demon can do that, but Banshee's are supposed to be hunters of their targets, so they also made sense. Perhaps they could have kept that ability for both, but alas, poor Banshee's...

What he encounters is no longer possible, not just because Asylum is no longer a map, but the mechanics that allowed this ghost to be the way that it was. It's a feature length film for a reason and it's still highly entertaining after all this time. The ending is quite something. I know. 😦 It was my favorite map. It was the first map I saw when I came across the game, watching a You Tuber play it. It was the first map I played by myself. When they announced they were removing it I played the map a lot more often. They removed it and replaced it with a new map called: "Sunny Meadows," it's an asylum but it has a lot more going on, almost feels cluttered but it's still a good map, just doesn't have the same vibe that the original did. Another reason they removed it was because they couldn't add more items to the map without making it take forever to load for many people, or causing lag. The map did have a lot of optimization issues, and given how few items there were that the ghost could interract with you would often only find the ghost because of an open door and a light being on. Mind you, I actually thought that finding a door open with a light open in a large asylum to be scary, especially if you saw it from a far distance, but I digress. They also did a poll asking people if they were okay with the map being replaced and the majority said yes, but I question whether these people actually played the game or not, and if the polls were rigged a little bit because the developers really wanted to remove it because they were receiving constant complaints of loading/lag issues with the map.

I just want to make note of the shade since I just encountered one. It threw items and hunted in the same room that I was in, which is something it's not supposed to be able to do (the guide does make mentioned of this). This makes it much more difficult to disguish a shade from other ghosts, but it's still possible!

You could use all your sanity pills, bringing yourself back up to 100% sanity (if you're not doing custom settings) and sit in the ghost room with the lights on. If the ghost does a ghost event, you know it's not a shade. Not really a great and reliable way to do this as a normal ghost could just choose to not do an event, but it's an option if you have limited evidence. However, even if you don't get events during this time, if the ghost is in the room and extremely quiet that's another telling sign. You can put up motion sensors and see if it just wanders around the room aimlessly, not interacting with anything.

If your sanity monitor is broken but you have the 25% sanity objective, you could note when it first hunts and see how long it takes for that 25% sanity objective to complete. If it happens quickly (depending on map size and custom settings, of course) then you can question it.

Getting shadow ghost models during events often is a good indicator but there's another one not mentioned in the guide but to be fair it's never been officially stated that they also have a higher chance to do "air ball" ghost event, I'm not sure by how much, but it seems high. My last game against a shade had nothing but them, totaling four back-to-back, with no other events. Although not officially stated, it would also make sense since an oni, their opposite, is incapable of doing these events, further separating the two. This is something that would make sense for the devs to do, especially since when the game first came out, and for over a year, you couldn't tell the two apart, as you could have aggressive shades and shy onis making for frustrating games if you attempted to do no evidence runs.

If you have a summoning circle or music box you can use these to see if the ghost reveals itself in a "shadow" state during the safe ghost event period. If it does, it's 100% a shade as no other ghost can do this when using these objects. This may also work for the monkey paw, but I haven't tested for it yet.

Demons are fun. Especially on insanity mode when you start with 75% sanity and immediately get a hunt. They're definitely one of my favorites that don't rely on being fast during hunts. They're just scary because once they start hunting they don't stop and crucifixes and smudges will get eaten up fast.

The equipment having tiers is probably the best thing they've added in a long time. It's just so satisfying to get better equipment and find the ghosts faster and more effiently. The only thing is that the prestige system doesn't feel very rewarding right now, and I feel it's hard to justify using it.

This Halloween update has been great. I definitely think it's been a huge improvement over last years. The only thing I'm a little disappointed by is the lack of a Halloween ghost model this year with the pumpkin head but otherwise it's been good. I also love the Maple Lodge rework so much! So much less open and it's easier to break line of sight with the ghost.

I'm having problems with identifying Jinn. Some of my questions are not answered in the wiki. Can Jinn gain line-of-sight speed (or any speed at all) if the fusebox is off? Can Jinn turn the fusebox on? How exactly does Jinn drain player's sanity?
When I was playing nightmare difficulty on Ridgeview and looping ghost with the power turned off, the ghost was still accelerating, therefore I mistook it as Demon, turned out to be Jinn

"When the Jinn uses its ability and the fuse box is on, it will lower the sanity of all players in the same room or otherwise within 3 meters of it by 25%. An EMF 2/5 reading will be generated at the fuse box."

Yes, the Jinn can still get line-of-sight speed when it sees a player with or without the breaker being on. The only difference is that when the breaker is on the Jinn will have an accelerated speed initially when it sees the player, up until they get within a few meters of the player, where their speed will fall off back to a normal ghost's speed, but they will still continue to gain speed like a normal ghost, being able to catch up with the player if in line-of-sight for too long.
As for the sanity drop ability: I'm not sure about the "being in the same room as the ghost" aspect. Like, I'm not sure if the ghost is in the gym on High School and it's on one side and you're on the other if your sanity will drop if it uses the ability... From what I thought and originally understood was that the player had to be within a few meters of the ghost when it uses its Jinn ability in order for the player's sanity to drop by 25%. When this ability is used the player will get an EMF reading from the fuse box, but not near the ghost itself.
And yes, the Jinn can turn on the breaker, but so can any ghost (not sure about the Hantu though). It doesn't have a higher chance to turn on the breaker or anything like that.

It's going to be a little bit more challenging during December because of secret santa on this server and because I'm a part of another writing group who exchanges gifts during the holidays so I'm going to lose a lot of free time. I should still have an hour window here and there though if we try to all work something out.

They should throw an announcement out about it pretty soon. TL;DR is you sign up requesting something (like an art picture of Applejack, or a fanfic involving a character, etc... Something within reason) and you say what you can do (like writing, art, etc...). After signing up you will very soon receive a request for something you're able to do for someone, like if you said you can do writing you may end up doing a short story for someone! Towards the end of the month you will give what you made to an admin, and they will give that gift to your giftee. And due to the nature of it being a secret you won't know who made your gift and your giftee won't know you made the gift for them. They do open up a forum here were people can share what they received and people can reveal what they did if they want.
The announcement will go into more detail about how it works though.

Sorry for the misconception and misleading, Shade can do full physical manifestation ghost events, apparently. I have no idea where did I get that myth from, I used to cross out Shade from the list every time a ghost does this event, my bad

This is a method for exposing Banshee I was mentioning about last Sunday @fierce anchor
Banshee roams to the target player and then returns back to it's favourite room afterwards.
Also perfectly works for Phantom, though it doesn't roam too often unlike Banshee and doesn't have a priority player.

Yep, that's a good way to track those ghosts down. I only do it on no evidence usually though after trying for most of the others first.

To be honest, I've lost interest in the game. I haven't felt like playing it on my off time in a while now, so as it stands right now, I'm not sure. This is normal for me, coming back for major patches, playing for a while, and then taking long breaks. So, I don't want to say that the next time I'll be interested will be when the next patch comes out, but right now I don't feel like playing the game. Sorry.
