IIRC no info about how it happened was given but it's thought a session token was spoofed as that's a really common way to get into accounts. A session token makes a website think a device you're on has already been authorized to access the account.
A hacker can either convince a user to hand over either the token or something that will give them access to one, or they can use more advanced methods that randomly produce ones that will work.

In the past weeks there's been a very popular way to hack people's twitter accounts that's been happening to a lot of really big artists where someone gets a dm about how someone incorrectly reported your account and they got this scary mail from twitter where they tell you that unless you contact support your account will be deactivated or something and then they make you talk to someone who I assume asks you for very important personal details and then they just do that to other people using your account which makes it look even more legit at that point
I was surprised to find out that usually people losing accounts or getting hacked ends up happening due to things like that or clicking on links without thinking twice (or clicking on a link that was disguised to look as something else)
