This is an entirely new Shadow-centric game, that comes bundled with a Sonic Generations remaster (which itself has new bonus content too). And according to the Steam description of the game, Shadow will be reliving not just memories of Black Doom, but also "painful" ones, meaning there's a high chance we'll be seeing Maria again (

No wonder why the Shadow sections of the trailer look so much more polished, technically advanced, better-looking, and smoother. That's the entire meat and potatoes of the game, with the original Generations remaster being an appetizer.

Someone made a movie-accurate Amy Rose, and it's actually not bad. I think I would try to find a way to make the spikes a little thinner so that her head size isn't so big, and I'd also make the skirt go down a little bit more, but otherwise it's an excellent render.

It just has weird proportions, she's too slim and tall, her build and proportions in most games is very short and stocky, Sonic characters tend to have long legs or arms but the bodies always are pretty small so making them big like this makes it look weird

Thing is, Knuckles, Tails, and Sonic all have perfect proportions in the films. Maybe their legs are a liiiiiittle bit longer but they're otherwise spot-on to the games. The render for Rouge (and Amy, to an extent) for some reason makes her way too tall, and also way too slim. I get it, they can't exactly give her a big chest like she has in the games, because that would be a little hard to explain to the parents of the kids watching the movies, but I think the artist overcompensated. If she was stockier and shorter, she'd look a lot better.
Ultimately though, this is just a fan render, and Rouge is unlikely to appear unless they decide to add her along with Shadow in Sonic 3.

I've been playing some Sonic Mania these days and I don't know if I just lost practice but this game is absolutely kicking my ass and destroying me, in some areas it's frustration and some it's me being bad and being mad that I'm bad
I understand it's part of the challenge but man this game does not feel good about you having any rings at all, the amount of enemies covered in spikes or requiring you to really slow down and time your jumps to get them out of the way is insane, it's really demoralizing to run around the level with 100 rings only to lose all of them to a single enemy that just so happened to jump out the second it appeared on screen 
(and also during bosses, I don't think anyone actually ever keeps all their rings)

I don't know if I shared my thoughts on this here but something that stuck with me from the last sonic arc I read was how chill and nice sonic is depicted in this comic especially with a character like Whisper
Dude immediately picked up on Whisper's deal and never pushed her to talk more or got up in her business, he gives her space and understands she just sometimes doesn't want to speak or has nothing to say but it's not because she's being rude and he never treats her as being weird for it

I also liked this little sequence at the end of the arc too because Sonic takes a couple minutes to run around and go check on how everybody's doing after pretty much having gone to a war, he doesn't stay around for much but it goes to show he cares for everyone around him and then it's back to the road for him because he's the type of guy that can't sit still

Shadow got hit pretty hard with Sega's mandates. Basically, you won't see much of the more moody/contemplative Shadow of the Archie era anymore, just more of the edgy/angry/arrogant side of his personality. That being said, he's not emotionless or perpetually angry. I'm pretty sure he adopts a Chao at some point in the comic and gets EXTREMELY pissed at a guy for using them in illegal underground Chao fights, so he clearly has a softer/fatherly side to him that he just buries more often than not (likely because of past trauma).
Honestly, I just think he hasn't really gotten his chance to truly shine yet.

The thing I saw people complaining about in the arc I'm currently getting through was this whole thing where Shadow fights an entire army of infected robot zombies despite that being a completely stupid idea and it's this sort of Vegeta super inflated ego moment and a lot of people were basically going ''this isn't how Shadow acts this is super out of character'' and it didn't seem like that huge of a deal to me but I can easily see how anyone who knows the character better would see it as a mischaracterization

They knew they needed to control their brand in the comics more because of what Penders did that nearly destroyed it all, and for a while it worked, but then they thought they needed more control and tightened their grip, which is now stifling creative freedom.

That's the way I perceived this specific scene personally, I thought he was simply too angry at Sonic for not heeding his warning before that Eggman was totally still evil that he got caught up on the whole ''nuh uh i'm the ultimate lifeform I never run away'', but I can totally understand the criticism that this Shadow is supposed to be way past all that and maybe would've actually listened to reason more, which is why I say it wasn't a big deal to me but if anyone is reading this with knowledge of Shadow's character from the games and Archie then I can understand why it may seem like a regression for sure

Yes, and every fan is well aware of it and of how bonkers he is and how there's no need to be paranoid about him anymore, but Sega doesn't care about that. They were publicly humiliated in court because of it, and refuse to let it happen again. The problem is their methods are wrong. One thing I did notice in the trailer for the open area, however, is pop up issues again. Luckily not nearly as bad as it was in Frontiers, but it's still there at the edges of the screen. But it looks like they've made a good compromise of having lots of stuff on the screen at the same time before the pop up issues get to be too noticeable.

Sonic Generations was a celebration of Sonic's 20th anniversary by looking back at many previous games. However, Shadow only had one game, so instead of looking back at games, Shadow Generations looks back at Shadow's history, this time under a new lens by throwing Black Doom into the mix and him f*cking up the timeline and trying to undo his failures and bring Shadow once more to the dark side.
It's also adding completely new stuff to Shadow's history too
So while the gameplay is gonna be retreading Shadow's history, the story itself is gonna give us new stuff.

The timeline with Sonic X Shadow Generations is a little unclear. The thing is, it's not just Shadow's thing, but also a remaster of the original Generations game. It's like they added on a new campaign for Shadow, so, there's some kind of tie-in with it. Timey-wimey shenanigans taking place after Generations maybe??
This is why they delisted the original Generations on Steam. SXSG is going to be the new, definitive version that replaces it

As yet another hidden detail, the robots guarding the base are the samurai bots from Sonic Colors, which makes sense because Sonic Generations takes place right after Sonic Colors, and Eggman was stuck in space at the time and has thus not been able to return to the planet to upgrade his robots to newer models.

The more unexpected thing though is that they canonized his name from the Archie Comics (which means that Ian Flynn still remembers even the smallest details from the Archie run and is fighting to regain every scrap he can), and that GUN is around at all, given how Sonic Team themselves stated a few years back that GUN wasn't gonna appear much anymore since Sonic's world was apparently a different one from the human world. But now Ian Flynn is making them one and the same, with Sonic Team's permission.

I'm just getting the normal version, and then downloading the movie Shadow content when it arrives in December. I don't need the extra skill points or the soundtrack or the bonus skin, because I can get the soundtrack on YouTube and the skill points are easy to get (and the skin is just a skin I'll never use anyway).
The regular version is already pretty expensive for me ($67), there's no need for me to bump it up to $80.

While going back to Dark Beginnings (because it's so good), I noticed a new detail: they're starting to add some movie-based stuff into the game canon, such as Shadow's eyes glowing red whenever he uses his powers (including the orange/red electricity going up his body). This was something exclusive to the movie universe until now.

Just as a warning, Sonic X Shadow Generations has been leaked online. Someone with a Steam review copy leaked a whole bunch of cutscenes, files, pictures, and more.
There is one mostly non-spoilery thing that most people figured was coming but is nice to see confirmed: Ian Flynn did indeed rewrite Sonic's side of the story from the ground up, as was rumored. The basic plot remains the same (not that there was much, lol), but the dialogue is completely different, and there are new cutscenes and new animations too. Even some old cutscenes are changed. This means we're getting new voice lines, no lame puns, and better characterization. Anything further I will leave for the game itself.

I gotta say, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to Sonic games, but as someone who grew up with SA1 on the PC and Sonic Unleashed on the PS2, the difference was night and day
Ultimately I loved both games as a kid, but I really did notice that style difference at the time, even if I didn't care enough to think about it too deeply

Sonic Chronicles had some fantastic characterization for everyone (and it's also the only time Shade, one of my favorite characters, ever appeared), but it was hampered by mediocre gameplay and extremely bad music (though the release state of the music wasn't actually their fault, all of the finished music pieces got badly corrupted and impossible to salvage just before release, so they had to resort to slapdashing together the midis in hopes it would be fine. It wasn't.

So, the funniest thing happened the other day
Went to my sister's house to visit, my nephew was there, he's 5 and he's got this Wii that he was gifted like a year or so ago, I hooked him up with some games, had to get some Sonic in there, suddenly he got the urge to play Sonic Unleashed
I was like awesome, gonna teach him the basics and let him have fun, this game's incredible, thing is, the PS2 and Wii versions of the game which are the ones I grew up with, they kinda take a million years to actually start the initial two cutscenes are completely unskippable, there's unskippable tutorial levels with a lot of text boxes in between (he can't really read that well yet), and after the first level there's more talking and text boxes so at some point he just blurts out ''so what, is this game just pressing A all the time?'' 
I tried really hard to be like ''no no no you're just getting to the levels'' but deep down inside I also was thinking ''is this game just pressing A the whole time?''
Didn't surprise me that he'd play a lot of Mario Kart instead because that game's pretty plug and play ish, easy to understand how to navigate the menus and all for a kid
He also somehow managed to switch the game's language to Japanese I had to switch it out for him, don't even know how he managed to do that

He also booted up Sonic Colors a bunch of times I noticed when I was browsing the games, so he likes that one I think, he already knew Eggman, knew about the emeralds, Super Sonic, so he's at least played some of these a little bit

Yes, it's a new model. And yes, updates to the Hedgehog Engine 2 (I think that's what they're using for Shadow Generations) allows for better detail and much smoother cutscene animations.
I think the original Sonic Generations uses the original Hedgehog Engine, so you won't see as many details. The cutscenes will be pretty jarring at least.

Just got S ranks on all the bosses (including on hard mode) and the achievement for beating the final boss without getting hit, so I've 100% completed Shadow Generations (minus getting a "Great" on all the time trials or whatever they're called, but idc about those). Sonic Generations was always a fantastic game. But from what most people are saying, it's like night and day with Shadow Generations, and they're saying that Shadow's portion of the game is better by far, but criminally short.

It is short but that's only if you kinda book it through all the phases and don't care about ranking, if you're just going then you're probably looking at... I don't even know, 5 hours?? At the most
If you're replaying the levels, getting those S ranks, getting those collectibles, well, I still haven't gotten all of them and I've got 14 hours
If you really wanna squeeze all the hours this game can offer you're looking at a pretty good amount, but it's still very obviously a bite sized Sonic game, it's a glorified expansion, but because it's so high quality it feels like a proper new game

I was extremely terrified when Sega semed to be so convincingly into the idea of ''open zone'' moving forward with Sonic, I'm gonna be honest, Frontiers just wasn't that great at all, so I'm glad they found a middle ground where the ''open zone'' is just the hub area and the levels are... good ol' Sonic levels, don't fix what isn't broken, Sonic games don't need to reinvent the wheel or have a gimmick everytime, sometimes just a good old Sonic experience is all you really need and that's what I feel like this game does

Eh Rouge doesn't need to be as curvacious if that's the issue, and she's gotten enough redesigns to feasibly just redesign her to be more acceptable for a heavier kids centered movie like in Prime, so I really doubt that would be the issue, more than anything they're probably trying to cut down as much time as possible and will relegate her plot importance to another character, it just kinda sucks because she's one of the few people Shadow gets along with and understands and also isn't a hero unlike the others including Amy

I'm not sure why they took the vocals out but I'm sure there's probably a reason, they've done that kind of stuff with other remixes in the previous Generations games too
my guess is that they either didn't fit anymore thematically, this game likes doing a lot of that, mixing and rearranging stuff around to fit with where Shadow currently stands as a character, but also they kinda sound too muffled and blend in with the instruments too much now that it's a much heavier metal sound rather than the more EDM style of SA2 which let the vocals come through much better

Frankly though, my favorite part of the IDW comics is that it knows its audience. It doesn't treat its audience as little babies or kids like the Archie Comics did for most of its run. Rather, it treats them like older teens or young adults, and thus with the appropriate intelligence and writing quality. The Bad Guys miniseries (the Sonic comic, not the Dreamworks movie, lol) has ||Mimic outright wanting to slit Starline's throat with an actual combat knife twice, once while he's asleep and the other as leverage||.
Like, this is not your grandma's Sonic. This shit gets pretty dark at times.

This arc is still pretty early on in the comics though, like 2019 or so I think, so I don't know if they got better at that as the comics went on, I know people had their complaints about Shadow doing something stupid like just throwing himself at a horde of infected metal people just to get infected himself which is something that's too dumb for him to actually do recklessly like that, but apparently you just can't have Shadow do certain things (as well as other characters can't do certain things either) because Sega doesn't like it so you just gotta write him off in a dumb way like that in the end
