I think a big reason why Wonder is resonating with a lot of people is that it evokes the feeling of being a kid in a fantastical playground
You turn on online mode, and suddenly you're bouncing around and doing all these wacky things with a bunch of other people in the same playground. Helping each other out in real-time. It contributes to having a nurturing and carefree vibe

Ultimately, I'm not sure how I feel about the game tbh. The wonder effects are kind of interesting, but a lot of the time it feels like it just turns the course into a mini game for whatever reason. And it also feels like it invalidates at least half the course since if you want to complete the course on the first go you have to take the wonder flower as soon as you spot it.

Honestly, as fantastic as Mario Wonder is, I really don't understand why it was nominated for GOTY, eapecially since it plays like a New Super Mario Bros game with a different art style, which is frankly neither that groundbreaking nor that new. It's nowhere near as revolutionary as Odyssey was, and it certainly couldn't even begin to compete with the likes of BG3, Alan Wake 2, or Tears of the Kingdom.
Felt like a waste of a nomination, to be honest.
To me, it felt like it was nominated solely because "it's Mario".

This is actually brand new dialogue which is pretty cool, would be interesting to see if its in the japanese version too. Vivian never says anything about her gender in any language in the original one, its all from Goombella and Beldam.

IGN gave it a 5, everyone else is giving it anywhere between 7 and 10, sooooo...probably about as good as Paper Jam and Dream Team, if I had to guess, which is still pretty good.
And for the first time in almost ten years on new-ish hardware (new for M&L, anyway), that's pretty solid.

They tend to give bad scores to basically everything, which makes them giving a really high score pretty good.
That said, it should be noted that only the US branch of IGN gave it a 5. All the other branches ranged from 7 to 9, and the average IGN score across all branches for Brothership is 7.5, which is still pretty high all things considered. It's just that the US branch is considered the "leader".
