It's the "I wont be able to hit this boss for a long while" skill that is fullfilled by "might as well hit it from far away since I can't get closer yet" you usually do with other melee DPS

Rough Dance Partner Priority as of 6.50:

SAM > NIN > MNK > RPR > *BLM > DRG > SMN > RDM > MCH > BRD > DNC

*BLM's placement depends somewhat on whether they are going high crit or high sps builds due to Devilment being a crit buff. Regardless, it's roughly around that of DRG.

You usually have a bit of time before the encounter starts to slap on Dance Partner and then you're sorted for the content

Only reason why you'd change is in the very small circumstance that your partner dies and you have to give your buff to someone else temporarily but I can imagine that'd only be relevant in like, Savage content

basically
slap Dance Partner
use Standard Step when you start combat
go ham
refresh Standard Step as needed (once per minute)
maybe use Curing Waltz and Shield Samba if you feel like it, lol

that is The Gist until 70

oh and don't forget that En Avant is a thing
you will probably use it a lot to dodge AoEs since you'll want to use Standard Step pretty close to whatever you're attacking (idk how much 15 yalms is so I probably end up going too close)

Most relevant to you, and not immediatly obvious, both standard and technical step do quite a bit of aoe damage around you

So during dungeons AOE pulls it pays off to be close to the enemies stack when you cast those

Nin passive is okay, useful to position for mechanics as it's not always pratical to teleport.

In combat Sprint is only 10 seconds so it wont be up a lot of the time if you need to move a lot

(yes if you didn't notice, sprint duration changes if cast in combat)

That said, unsynched you can run it in like, 5 minutes, so you get loot really fast

It’s a little complicated, but once you get the rhythm it’s not too bad

Worth mentioning, that the reason the expansion is deeply discounted is that it has around 7-8 months of time left

And after it'll be boundled with the new expansion coming, so if you plan to start, the most effective way if you want to not do the free trial, is buying the base game, and then buy the new expansions (which wont be discounted) but will contain all the previous ones

Also another thing worth mentioning is that if you buy the game from the Square Enix site, you can't buy the steam version on the same account and vice versa

You would really need to hate free trial restrictions if you are willing to get the starter edition which on top of a one time fee, also forces you to pay subscription from that point onward, and gives you pretty much no additional content besides PvP and Ultimates.

i get why they are there, it's to fight gold spammers and bot farmers, but they are still a massive drag

If I was willing to commit, this would be a decent opportunity to get on complete edition. I'm done leveling, and will soon start the bulk of level 70 content. Even if I didn't finish with Endwalker by the time of Dawntrail's release, I would have made considerable progress towards it. But I won't commit if my PC doesn't meet the next expansion's minimum specs.
