What is happening
It was voice of Adam Jensen

Isn't that Metal Gear?
Yeah I was about to say
Wait is this Hitman?
Average American dream simulator
seems like the kind of game I'd play
bruh
so close to being Dreams of America

point cloud rendering eh
This is so silly
interesting
someone wanted this?
Days Gone again but 4k
lol I guess so? Must have been popular enough to get the remaster?
The game was reportedly pretty good
Well it was a bit yeah
is... nikke an anime?
idk
gacha IIRC
oh
friendship mentioned!
looks Myst
I wonder what the final game reveal will be

alright finally unlocked the ||central stratum||
that's what i was thinking too !
probably ape escape
Last one I played was on the PSP
I get the feeling it'll be Bungie but maybe its just bloodborne.
super mario 39
I think that's the last one that released
Abiotic factor is apprently ok, but like, only heard it second hand
They were making an untitled project
Also marathon
I know I heard asterion earlier
Shadow of the Colossus like?
oooh action fighting
So much style games here
Horse
I vibe with this
This is so far the most interesting one I've seen
This isn't a soulslike
tides
barely any water
it's more a DMC like
Is this the bungie game?
Marathon?
yeah that one
woah Marathon
I don't think its Marathon.

Marathon is PVP
Yeah this ain't it.
Looks pretty good NGL
this is uncanny
what is even going on lmao
I'm a little interested
gta xxiv
O Wow
would play, maybe
GTA but with an interesting story?
oh my very scottish

"where ai" oh no

I wonder how this works as a GTA game...
San Andreas was fun
This looks really cool I think
This does look cool
Yeah, looks fun! I like more urban modern settings, that's a plus for me
The gameplay looks kinda mid IMO, but the story seems intriguing

that's a hell of a mustache

oh it's a beard
is this the order?
Helldivers
t h e b a l l
maybe?
roguelike?
If it's this

I was thinking that hahaha
They made returnal
Oh it seemed very Returnal-like
oh its returnal but something else
I had a question for Masque when I see them around
Returnal is cool
alright thats it
I think that’s it

no ape escape?
no bloodborne
oh that was the end
welp
Maybe in the summer
FFS, I keep trying to scroll up and Discord keeps sending me all the way to the bottom. F*ck Discord mobile, man...
Did you see the sonic trailer GT
That was a very short.
Is any of you MyLilPoptart on Xbox and sent me a request?
Nope
Yeah, Sony has nothing to offer this year. They're doing a massive restructuring probably.
coming this summer to the ps5 and enhanced for the ps5 pro: disappointment
Ok my hope is that Tides of Annihilation makes it to PC, that one looked very good, apart from that eh, fun stuff
Meanwhile MS is just putting their games on the PS5.
I enjoyed it, a lot of games with style, and a new look at the It takes two one, and some like Devil May Cry and one like Life is Strange and Octopus game 💖
I liked the dreamy cloudy one
This too!
Any games that caught your eyes ponies?
I'm really just here for the indies
Digimon, that was it.
Metal Eden looks neat
Literally one game.
I didn't watch. Forgot about it tbh
You’ll be able to watch it again
maybe i am too cynical but most of those games looked exactly the same to me
new Sonic racing game looks neat at least
Alright, I saw the Sonic stuff thanks to the Sonic thread, but what else did I miss in this?
Everything else was either dark souls, too much action based, so much ninja, and I guess that one Sonic game.
Eurogamer delivers, very well, looking forward to that one
Few rogue-lite games
Ah, sounds about right for Sony then.
Yep
I'm completely with you on this. Especially many of these dramatized fantasy sword fighting thingies all look and feel the same to me, and the voiceovers seem extremely interchangable.
Currently waiting for Age of Empires 2 on PS5.
There was one soulslike total
doesn't mean the games are bad, not by a long shot! But the marketing is so samy
IDK why you say there was a bunch
dodge, hit, dodge, hit, dodge, hit, super enemy attack, dodge, hit.
Well maybe 2 depending how Onimusha turns out
I wonder how many games are left if you pull out all that contain weapons
That I can see it being kinda more soulslike
Depends on what you consider a weapon
That doesn't make a game a souls like
I really need to investigate the Digimon title though.
Cars are a definitely a deadly weapon
well idk, they just look the same...
Digimon game?
Foremost swords and guns
yeah, one sec
I always thought that games rely on physical conflict too much as a storytelling device...it's why I like when one game goes out of its way to have very deep mechanics for exploration or traversal
You never see that
new generation of furries let's go!!
It was IMO the best thing about Death Stranding
A ton of games, then
Oh It's PS5
after Multiversus fumbling just after introducing Lola Bunny, we needed it
Indeed.
Also morning
I should probably get to bed if you're already awake
Good thing is, there are so many games that don't rely on physical conflict at all!
...just not usually the high budget titles
play outer wilds
Probably on other platforms too, it was presented on PS state of play so they say that one
Outer Wild is indeed exceptional
that shit is life changing
travelers encore will not leave my brain, especially the prisoners melody
The shit that will never leave me as far as innovative mechanics is The Return of the Obra Dinn and other tha use similar mechanics
Chants of Sennaar and The Case of the Golden Idol to cite two, Chants of Sennaar especially
chants of sennaar <3333
Golden Idol, I seen it, is it good?
Very good yeah
I watched a let's play of it, it's not my kind of game but it's a very good one
I might recommend watching an episode of one to see the basic gameplay but it's a puzzle game so doing too much would ruin the fun
||gilroy|| is finally done, being one shot to him 99% of the fight is a bit annoying but i managed
His entrance is very funny to me.
||"Who could have done this?" Camera pans to this brooding Lysanderoth looking dude||
||hes the administrator, but did you know that hes also the administrator? And idk if i mentioned this yet but hes actually the administrator ||
Yeah, ||Discord admin tends to get big heads about it, not a surprise||
||combat puppet 14|| is genuinely the worst boss fight ive fucking seen, the challenge is that the normal dodge is useless and its just tedious and annoying not enjoyable a single bit
NVM THE NEXT ONE IS WORSE
FULL KIT OF CROSS SCREEEN ATTACKS WHAT THE FUCK
im losing my fucking mind
Dome keeper updated their mod creator license agreement: https://github.com/DomeKeeperMods/Docs/wiki/Legal/_compare/d3f1227c4054e26e5d464702f222c2b9d83c6c65...ee7f3f4f3c75082668c9544caf213ae75c66878a?diff=split&w=
With the following announcement Heyo, we've taken another stab at the EULA. It's more open and friendly now, at the cost of having some legal risk for us, but i think at this point it's the right move. We want to support you modders as much as possible, and a fair EULA that doesn't read like someone wants to exploit your works is a good thing.
I went ahead and read both versions for changes:
2- They allow modders to reverse engineer the game code and assets but not include substantial portions of it in the mods.
3- They grant themselves the right to showcase mods without compensation but with credit if possible.
4- They added a clause that says they're allowed to independently have good ideas that happen to be in existing mods.
5- They ban obfuscation of mods.
6- They now ban mods that allow you to pirate the game, remove DRM, or cheat in competitive game modes.
7- They no longer claim the right to modify, create derivative works from, commercialize or exploit the mod.```
6 and 7 seem okay at least
They all seem good
In the link you can see the old version on the left with the new version on the right
Changes highlighted in red and green
makes sense
5 is an interesting one but yeah over all they seem good
i dont think ive ever seen a case where they specificly ban obfusaction of mods
They say they want mods to be easy to read and audit by users and themselves
yeah i do like the rule thats for sure
I agree with that, don't want a nasty surprise.
i just cant think of anywhere else ive seen it in writing like that
🔥
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3238240/Scaravan_66/ oho, there's a demo. Road rash roguelike, if I recall correctly

I played Croc 2 as a child. It was not great then and it certainly aged poorly
Speaking of that. The remaster is meant to be coming out soon
They talk about it in the video
I’m sure I still have my copy somewhere.
Everyone is excited to have a less bad game and they think it would be hard to make a worse one
I never got to the level where you have to collect 30 babies
Are they out of their mind? Even five babies is too much
funny kcd ii trivia, for @hasty patio but also anyone interested: im playing on czech language and at start of one sidequest the characters go (paraphrasing here):
"so, whats your name?"
"jindřich"
"ah, well met henry!"
"no, my name isn't henry, its j-i-n-"
"any common farmer or shepherd is jindřich, henry is so much more noble sounding. so, henry, here's the thing..."
and i aint gonna lie its absolutely hilarious to me that theyre pokin fun at english translation (bc henry is the english version of jindřich, so its not like its wrong, but there's another layer given the main character's heritage of double dads (its complicated dont worry about it)). he tries spelling his name like three separate times before giving up. im incredibly curious if this joke is somehow preserved in english setting (maybe in latin?), or if its a tiny treat for the native audience
exactly 1,600.
Mmm.
exact scores are fun
nevermind, i thought the beggining was funny, but the conclusion where they sing an ode to your name (badly), while you stand there facepalming and contemplating your choices is pure gold
and here i thought drunkenly halucinating a talkin dog was gonna be the top of my evening tonight
I need to continue playing Yakuza 0

There's going to be AIRGEAR
*Extreme Gear, but yes
We've already talked a bit about the announcement in #1032775170521313330
oh wait, airgear was from an anime lmao
Suffice it to say that I'm hyped as hell, lol
All-Stars Racing Transformed was my favorite racing game for the longest time, even beating Mario Kart 8.
It looks like it'll be less Team Sonic Racing and closer to Transformed
I'm soooooo glad to see the transformation gimmick return. It opened up soooo many new avenues to race in.
Looks fun
I want Sonic x Shadow Generations
Shadow Generations is criminally short, but extremely good.
It's the natural evolution of the Frontiers gameplay.
And if Sega can output that level of quality with the next mainline game, we're in for a new golden age of Sonic.
Is Frontiers good?
Yes.
The last Sonic game I played was Forces
Personally, I liked Forces, but I understand why most people didn't.
Imo, yes. But it does have some issues still. It was their first attempt at open world gameplay, and some of the controls are a little wonky, to say nothing of the pop-in issues.
But overall, it is a really good game. Easily the best story in any Sonic game, voice acting is incredible, the gameplay is fun, the visuals are stunning, and the music is GORGEOUS.
Frontiers is $80
Yeah...only real downside.
Wait for a sale if you can't spend that much. Sonic games go on sales pretty often.
I really feel like Shadow Gens specifically should be the blueprint for the next Sonic games, then again Sega could have the entire next 10 years of Sonic layed out in front of them and still mess it up somehow
I never really thought Frontiers was as big of a deal as a lot of people made it seem, even when I was first getting through it, so many things with that game are so strange, the visuals are so bizarre and kind of all over the place in terms of having any artstyle or direction at all, the open world style gameplay was very weird and felt very out of place for the franchise especially considering all the things an open world game carries with it, they really seemed to want to just copy BOTW, the ''level design'' of all the platforming that was thrown around the map was not really anything special, they kinda threw in some combat for some reason? Which was all very half-baked and I feel like didn't really need to be there, and the story ever since I first got through it I found to be very basic, but everybody seemed to think it was groundbreaking, probably only because it treated the characters like actual characters and not mascots but everyting else was... fine, I'd probably still put SA2 as the best story for a Sonic game easy, really most of my enjoyment came from those very short cyber space levels
I dunno, everybody seemed to get too hyped and think it was the next big step for Sonic I guess because Forces was that bad that Frontiers just seemed like the holy grail in comparison, to me it just seemed like a very strange experiment with little clear direction on what it wanted to be, Shadow Gens though, that's probably one of the best Sonic experiences I've had since I was a kid, everything about that game is just A+ on absolutely every single level, it's day and night compared to Frontiers, I 100% it and I still wish it had a little bit more

Speaking of surprises, I found that Dynasty Warriors Origins is very good. Surprisingly good, actually.
So was the first one
Tbh, I forgot Freedom Planet 2 was even a thing. It was being hyped up when it was first announced and then it just dropped off entirely, and then it just released to silence and nobody has even mentioned it since.
it's fun, you should play it
I'm waiting for it to go on sale
Overkill?
Is that a German WW2 bomber?
Because if it is, there is no such thing as overkill for those things. F*ck those guys. Fill 'em as full of lead as they can get.
Smurfs 2 logo really looks like the Sims 2 at a distance

BRO
so StS 2 is going to have modifiers to cards called "Enchantments."
That is Pretty Neat™️
White white cliffs of dover
If you wanna be my glover, first you gotta be my friend...
you know in retrospect this menu is a tad weird.
personally i'd go for the instant⭐death
vertical text is so hard to localize
wait, "cubic kedama volcanic tofu"?
(kedama means hairball)
see I was wondering if one of the cat youkai was involved in this shop since you didn't give much context
I hired Kyouko and Aunn, but no cats
ender magnolia: finally beat the ||combat puppets|| this shit was so annoying but atleast the cutscene is insane
i finally got the parry, would have been nice to have a whole area ago
You can buy a carapace that does it if you find a certain grimoire at some point before you go up to the middle stratum, you probably missed it unfortunately
I really like the system.
They have carapaces with different effects for the parry, stronger ones with a smaller parrying window, and those that are just stats, for those that don't want to parry, it's just a smart way of explanding that mechanic.
even worse, apparently i did unlock it at some point but i never bought it cuz 1.bracelets were kinda useless so i didnt pay any attention to them and 2.i didnt know wtf a carapace was
t
Bracelets are insanely strong, they add a ton of stats
never really felt it that much, was relying on relics mostly like the first game
They are passives tho, so like, yeah, not as exciting as a new button to press
Don't sleep on totems either
yeah i have a good totem equiped rn
||fighting the witch rn and holy fuck the little healing shits are a menace
||
strong agree
||shit one spawned i must kill or stun it-||
||FIREBALL FIREBALL ICE TELEPORT LIGHTING PILLAR||
My solution was to use ||the kid third ability, the one that shoots in the air to stun it everytime it tried to heal without having to commit closing in and potentially getting distracted from the main threat||
i relied on ||nola's scythe for first phase, for 2nd it was just hold yolvan and parry the fuck out of anything that comes near me||
p much just brute forced it cuz strategy was not working
feel like ||sorcerers academy was supposed to be the first place i go before the fucking battle puppet shit|| it was miles easier
but tbf the other shit was mostly harder cuz of frost bombs being a thing
really beautiful arena for ||the witch|| though
im not entirely sure what to do now
this is my map rn if that says anything
If you are looking for places to go, ||I think you should be able to explore east from here, also still some cool stuff to find in some academy zones but it's probably easier to access later||
ah i didnt notice that was a area change indicator
was way too fucking mad at the game to focus when i got to it lmao
yeah, no surprise noelle's ahead of me since my last two days got deleted by illness (and I spent today on modding)
yeah ive been playing quite a bit
theres probably also the fact that i just dash through rooms instead of clearing them a lot of the time
metroidvania or not im still impatient
this might be the first game part from outerwilds where i actually read the lore material though, usually i just insta skip that shit
I usually don't play randomisers but I could definitely see myself try a magnolia one
cheese <3
I definitely will. The EL rando devs said they’re waiting for the dust to settle on EM / logic-relevant patches to stop coming out before working on it.
am i missing something? i still cant break these barriers
ig this would be the better screenshot
Eventually
so i didnt miss anything up to this point p much
i keep getting items from levy that i dont know what to do with
theres like 3 of them now
Each needs to be ||brought to a different npc, the good thing is if you approach the NPC and you have the item it automatically does the cutscene so you don't actually need to go an manually talk to everyone||
I thinks it's with all of them but I am not positive with that
i have a feeling i asked about them right as im bout to get the ability to break them
yup
#GTAV - for a hardened criminal Michael has very kind eyes
Radiata Stories is one of those games you don't expect a lot from - especially not in the early hours. 170+ recruitable characters! Stylized visuals! Cool, but brother, what's the substance? Turns out, the real Radiata stories are found in the play - something you won't find out until partway through the run. The absolute sucker punch of a plot ...
It's a two hour video essay talking about Radiata Stories in retrospective
(Story spoilers start at ten minutes in)
oh yeah just remembered this, its abslutely great, love abusing the shit out of it like parrying attacks that have long active frames just by timing it while standing in it
fighting the ||aggressor rn,and one of the most satisfying things is just parrying the whole spinning attack wihtout moving out of place||
man
i really wanna love Half Life 1 like everyone else but the gameplay does nothing for me
Don't worry about it
I don't like Half Life 2 for the same reason
It's just not fun or interesting
Speaking of Half-Life 1, Delta Particles is a really damn good mod.
An actual ghost
The pilot was dead, it circled around and around, slowly descending
Why are people still playing Half Life 1 when Black Mesa is the "unofficial" official remake that is quite literally better in every single way?
I didn’t like Black Mesa as much tbh.
Xen segment in HL1 was bad but short, Black Mesa Xen segment is crazy huge but overstays its welcome.
I spent more time in Xen than on Earth, which is an odd thing to complain but Black Mesa’s Xen puzzles were annoying.
What broke me was the Xen Elevator, I lost count on how many times I died. Elevator segment is convoluted and long. I was playing on Normal and had to lower it, still took me a few more tries on easy.
The final boss was also… uhh… interesting. Was dying repeatedly because of the scripted events, every new event just made me start over again. After memorizing them, it was easy.
found what i assume is a bug? sometimes you can literally die while being inside the successful parry animation on 1 tick attacks
because i find it quite literally worse in most ways? they're quite literally different games? something about the aesthetic of bm is super uncanny to me and i can't stand it
cool-ateral
Reminds me of Mystery dungeon
less demanding, more mods, more speedrunners, more active multiplayer (deathmatch)
did you try MMod for HL1? It's more or less Quake 1.5 but for Half-Life

blergh
playing the sims 2 and hit with a random bug where my sim wont cook or eat food
like, she will start preparing a meal, put it in the oven, take it out of the oven then the meal disappears
if another sim cooks a meal, she refuses to eat it. gets half way through the sitting down animation then glitches back to standing upright
this is for oven and microwave means
instant food is fine, chef salad (which doesnt require an oven) is fine

oh and that sim got fired from their well-paying job
Okami is a very odd game
it's probably why people love it 😛
it's definitely a factor
referring earlier chatter, games the Half-Lifes don't age as well because they had the kind of success that means today they have a million copycats, and almost everything they did well you've now seen in other games already
I remember how much Half-Life shaped Turok 3
it's so unlike Turok 1 and 2 because of that game alone
How so?
:prepares_to_judge:

That's the same phenomemnon that kept Ultima Online and Runescape alive for so long as well
World of Warcraft won the MMO war, meaning that every MMO from that point onwards was a Theme Park MMO, and almost nobody made Sandbox MMOs for decades
The few that were popular at the time survived really well exactly because no one was trying to even compete with them
you're playing as a wolf, who's also actually the goddess Amaterasu. Literally the goddess, not like some fictional one. The currency is, for some reason, yen
it'd be like playing a game as jesus whose fursuiting as a lion and the currency is american dollars or something
That sounds like an incredible parody game
Your navi could be a snake who lives in your mane and insists on calling you jessy
and that's before you get into all the stuff about ||time-travelling to help Susano slay the hydra Orochi||, much less anything from after act 1
oh no
and I guess ||having to get Orochi drunk in order to kill him|| but I think that one was in the original myth?
it's a very consistent kind of weird that fits being all about a foreign country's mythology so that makes it easy to love
I don't want to be that guy who's like "games I've stopped playing are dead games" but like
Is it just me that kinda feels like mmos are a "dead" (as in, no reason to make one anymore) genre because of this as well as other games replicating the same experience you'd get from mmos in different ways
(I used to play runescape and only runescape)
Well, it's not like there is no reason to make them, it's that MMOs are a high risk and high reward investment for game companies
it's definitely more true in live service/MMO games than any other genre because those are the only genre that try to be more of a lifestyle than "just a video game", so almost by definition you can't (fully) play more than one of them
at least the way I hear literally everyone talk about these things
And that role moved to other kind of games
Largely as Ix said, live services
They used to be the "throw your billions here" investment that companies focused on hoping to win it big
yeah, now it's MMOs competing with every other kind of live service to be the this-is-my-entire-life-and-personality game, and that is seemingly not a fight they can win with modern audiences
speaking of which, the fact that "Fortnite OG" exists now is so funny
So basically in a way most live service games kinda are the """new""" mmos
That migrated to Battle Royale for a while, and now it's just anything live service
Worth mentioning that this is specifically about what companies invest in, which does have only a tangential correlation to what people play
not to mention what people spend money on
a lot of people put a lot of hours into games without any money going to a corporation anywhere
OG is funny in a validating way now that I consistently see its playerbase under the main mode (I'm a spiteful 2017 STW founder)
Well it does have a stronger correlation to total amount of money spent in the genre/type of game.
But whales do throw a wrench in the works
yeah, I just mean there's a whole other layer of factors with things like the tiny playerbases of supposedly "dead" MMOs, or MMOs that officially died but live on through private servers, and other weirdness
Ultima Online is still alive and still requires a paid subscription btw
I guess the tldr is it's complicated but I guess for now I don't see another "big" mmo coming out on the scene
Rather just other games that try to have mmo aspects because uh
live service moment
Speaking of nichè things that no one really ever think about
I do think MMORPGs also got hit by the general dilution of "RPG", and that's part of the reason we ended up on this term "live service"
a lot of what made MMOs special is no longer restricted to the kinds of core gameplay mechanics that (C)RPGs were known for

Riot is supposedly making one, and to be fair, for all its fault, New World is pretty big and relatively recent
I thought new world didn't do too hot
hm
But it could be the mmorpg players hating their own mmo which I'm used to
I mean, fair. It's a very silly take on the whole mythos. ||Pissing on stuff is even an attack....||
The only MMO competition is FF14, really
New World also had an infamous series of serious launch problems
I remember hearing about those
and FF14 is kind of the exception that proves the rule considering how much of the hype is around how much of the MMO-ness you can avoid or skip
But I would not be surprised if it had a very loyal audience despite the problems
...given I was a runescape player
My instincts feel like it'll just
explode
Going by Pcgames site, these are MMOs. Though I think there's a name or two that I'd question in that list....
I've heard some very
interesting takes from current people hooked on riot's games which makes me very concerned
Destiny is a good one to bring up for sure
Josh Strife Hayes had a really funny video about what the "best MMOs list" looks like if you combine all the MMO lists people have put on the internet, and how much of the result is just games that obviously are not MMOs
Also where the line between "mmo" and "live service" is drawn is
a weird thing
Like if you have destiny 2 on there
why not warframe too
But by sheer population, WoW still dominates with FF14 following. After that, it's probably some other one that is gacha filled, but I couldn't say which
Well, Warframe doesn't really have a shared world, it has some shared hubs
to me an MMO(RPG) is essentially a specific kind of live service game
I could at least see an argument for it if someone is a lot more loose on their definition for it
though in theory you could make an MMORPG and then never publish a single update for it, just charge a tiny subscription to cover server hosting costs... but I doubt anyone's ever done that lol
I feel like the shared open world where you could be doing something, and someone come up to you without you having to have partied with them, and like, interact with you, is an important part of the definition
yeah, that's definitely a big part of what makes "massively multiplayer" mean anything
Specifically the massive part
otherwise every popular multiplayer game is "massive" just pointing at total playerbase size
Honestly I've known a lot of mmorpg players who forget about the multiplayer part
If I'm in a mission with someone in Warframe, I know who I am in a mission with, and we all have the same objective, that mission (and make it to the exit faster than the other guys)
Many people will be doing bossing and so on and then just you'll have "Cool Fisherman89" with 200 mil fishing XP still fishing for some reason pretending like nobody else exists
if this was an anime, they'd show up to a raid one-day and solo the boss by yanking them off a cliff with the fishing rod Minecraft-style, then walk away with no explanation
There's an anime right now with almost the perfect title, let me look
In fairness, yeah, I have known a lot of solo players who basically never show themselves and then do multiplayer content (simply because they get more rewards) and then wipe the floor with everything
In Burning Crusade there was a raid boss for a 25 men raid that had to be fished out in order to fight it
I think yet another big, often unspoken factor in all of this is that for a long time, players were enamored with the idea of bigger, better, more detailed video game worlds, and I'm pretty sure that trend has reversed and now "open worlds" need a reason to be that open (even for general audiences, not just weirdos like me who said that all along)
The Lurker Below! 🎣
so you get arrangements more like what Gen's describing in warframe that are arguably just a better use of gamedev resources and player time
Maybe, I am skeptical that trend has reversed
it has at the very least plateaued
Warframe is that way because it was born as a 4 players running a mission because the devs were fucking broke when they made it
we've finally seen some games "go open world" and then flop because it was a bad idea, rather than succeed in spite of it
Warframe was a last ditch effort to make a hit, and then they kept hitting the button as it kept working haha
In fact, the Open World maps of Warframe are exactly the wrong kind of Open World
Games are complicated
But as someone who did return to warframe recently
I will say one of the things that people don't do enough is have at least a decent enough variety of games to play
If you don't like the current state of a game, you can vanish and them come back and one of two things happen:
- The good ending: for some reason everything you wanted happen to the game and you become addicted again (Warframe)
- The bad ending: Everything's worse, but at least you're not attached so you can move on to greener pastures (RuneScape
should've called it Final Frame
Both my biggest complaint and biggest compliment to Warframe is
They do what sounds and looks cool
This makes the best things happen
and the worst things happen
For example, wtf is up with Plains of Duviri
I hated duviri when I first returned
now I love it
Listen, Duviri is kind of bad, but I love it like it is my child
I think a big thing that killed MMOs was all the failures around 2010
I wish they did made the animations less jank tho
I understand it growing on you, but folks, DE has a bad habbit of making other games and stapling them onto warframe
Maybe they'll bring some of the soulframe melee combat to Duviri eventually
I kind of agree but it's kind of working for me
finally I can play civilization in warframe
This is the bad part of Warframe doing what's cool
They sometimes just add something that just isn't Warframe
but sometimes that's really fun
Sometimes it's Railjack
But most of the time it varies depending on who you ask, some people will love archwing, some will hate it, some will love Duviri, others will hate it and so on
yeah fair enough Genryu, Mako.
Listen, Railjack is really good now
I just wish they made content for it
It just took like, years
Railjack is pretty fun, but there's not a ton of reaons to dip into it, and so much competing for your time in warframe alone
No no like I don't hate railjack
When it was first added it was kinda something that just made me
not want to play because I was like "If this is what "endgame" is, I don't wanna always play with 3 guys, so I think I'll just stay away for a bit"
Now with NPCs and so on I'm fine with it tbh
Especially as someone who's invested a lot in their archwing
It's probably one of the best farm for a lot of things if you are a new players so there are reasons to play Railjack, there is also a lot of reasons to play a lot of other mods tho, that's true
Railjack on release was the worst situation the game was ever
And it lasted like, a year
Railjack though I just have the problem of "I'm gonna cast eclipse before leaving my railjack and then just kill everything with my archwing, oh no, why did my railjack explode 5 times"
it took me way too many seconds to realize you didn't say Rarijack
Yeah I know
LOL
Picturing the two yelling and arguing over an rj mission now
But yeah I kinda clocked out from Warframe at that point so I had no idea what the general consensus was
All I know is my opinion, which was like
"this isn't what I want out of this game. Maybe I'll be back."
I thought you were piloting the Railjack?
Oh I left to go use the side guns!
And I was the player who hit the highest MR at around that point in time, or maybe close to it (believe it was 25)
It's certainly something to come back to the game and see legendary 4 being a thing
To explain for the non WF degenerates, it's this mode https://youtu.be/uWVBnWZCuH0?t=82
They basically added a space sim missions to the game, on release it was a mess, unrewarding, took longer than playing other missions, played badly, and was buggy as fuck
oh yeah, I think I saw this in some unrelated youtube video once
The last update they made to it, they actually fixed all of the problems
And then never made another peice of content for it
Which to be fair, there is a lot to do if you are new, but I played it a bunch and maxed it when it was bad, and now that I want to play it there is no reason to do it
I think what I overheard when it was released early on in its early stages were that archwings could literally nuke everything before the rj could do anything
which got me interested
...then they nerfed that damage to hell so you actually used the rj
So my interest just dissipated instantly
i mean, there are archwing only missions if you're interested in archwing
Oh
believe me I know
I did all of them and got basically every mod reward you could for them
I just wanted a good excuse to use all of the stuff I got on something new
And rj seemed like a fun target for it
I do smile every time a quest has to use it some of these systems, but those are few and far between
"Ah you thught I was weak with this system, jokes on you, I maxed everything" proceeds to murder
But like everything was kind of against me at that point
- I got kicked from my old clan due to inactivity and influx of players so I literally couldn't even make a rj (I hate so much being clan locked in wf like why)
- The archwing nerfs
- Not wanting to make a full squad every time
Because of that I fell really far behind for a long time
To bring it back to more of a general discussion, games like WF definitely do occupy as similar space as MMOs
But then I came back
And kinda had this experience
They did nerf the new war railjack section but I had gotten crew members and everything so just
nothing was an issue
Also they don't cost 300 millions to put out a minimum viable product
Yep
Mmos just seem like a nightmare to create tbh
Also people more easly accept microtransactions in these games than they do in MMOs
being punished for playing other games definitely puts it in the "live service/MMO" bubble for me
Honestly with someone who's played a lot of live service games, I've kinda gotten progressively immune to fomo simply because
in 12 months if you come back, all the content you missed will (likely) be powercrept anyway and they'll have ways to make new and returning players progress faster
If the game is well designed that is
You could leave, come back, and then the game is dead in those 12 months
But at least in that scenario you also "win" because your time wasn't invested in that
yeah, FOMO as a marketing tactic cannot survive widespread competition
Yeah like the more time I spend the more I realize that fomo (ironically, unless it involves cosmetics) typically is an empty threat
You miss out on an event? It can come back later, or an even better event happens
You couldn't get this overpowered weapon because your gear sucks without 100 hours of grinding or paying? Well, come back 6 months later, you'll be able to get something easier and more powerful in 10% of the time
Part of the game sucks and you don't wanna play it? Well, it'll probably get less necessary or improved later, so who cares if there's time-locked content there
It is so amusingly consistent how much this has happened
To the point where fomo makes me feel nothing because I know how it ends up
#GTAV - Trevor and Michael bicker like an old married couple lol
Ugghh why does 99% of games on mobile have controller support
where in the game are you at rn
I read Rarijack instead of Railjack
it's what makes mobile gaming far more viable, touch controls only get you so far (and they are useless for a docked experience)
just chose Option C (so very near the end)
GTA V finished
pretty good game, nowhere near as good as RDR2 for me though as far as Rockstar games go
no not really
my internet connection is too bad for online games haha
but is ok because i prefer single player games anyway
Tales of Berseria queer headcanons
Velvet - Bi. Actually talks about the kind of guy she'd like but has absolute chemistry with her female party members.
Laphicet - Bit too young for me to mull on so I'll stick with how the game is coding him and say straight.
Rokurou - Massive pan energy. Dude is so lasseiz-faire about so many things I can't imagine it doesn't extend to how he feels about people.
Magilou - I've mentioned before how she's basically Trixie. This includes the inability for me to imagine she's anything other than a lesbian. She teases guys, but then, she teases everyone.
Eleanor - Straight. Or so she thinks. She's the type of girl that assumes heteronormativity is all that exists but through the course of the game her worldview is shattered and, at least I think, so is her sexuality.
Eizen - Ace. Dude's way too into infodumping about geography to be into anyone.

i may have missed the checkpoint
even funnier: it's part Ender-like but with more Souls-like than a typical Ender
As far as gameplay IDK if I see any souls in there, there is some aesthetic tho
This is taking a lot from Devil May Cry 5 tho
it's more a vibe I get from what appear to be block/parry timings going on there but it is just a trailer
certainly the scripted events later are way more DMC, but I dunno that franchise as much
The summoning kinda reminds me a bit of V gameplay in DMC

Now I'm thinking about Balatro jokers based on pony characters
- Pinkie Pie: X3 Mult if played hand contains 5 Face cards
- Rainbow Dash: This Joker gains +75 Chips and +5 Mult when a Blind is skipped
Oh the other way around
- Rarity: Played cards with Diamond suit become Glass cards when scored
- Applejack: Retrigger the last two played cards
Basically, if you bought a PS5 and grabbed the PS Plus Collection they were offering (because there weren't many PS5 games at launch), that copy does NOT qualify for the $10 upgrade for the remaster. You'd have to pay full price.

French Canadian Domination
I played CK 2 and EU4
The summary is that Crusader Kings is about roleplaying a dynasty of rulers, whereas EU4 is playing a country. CK2 is people focused, and EU4 is nation focused.
EU4 is focused on the era of renaissance to the end of colonialism
CK2 is early medieval to renaissance
I guess what I'm wondering is that each game seems to cover a different time period but generally seems to have the same direction of game play (although I could be wrong)
CK2 is very interesting since you play a dinasty not a nation as Flitter mentioned.
What you guys is, how land is divided up between his heirs, who they have authority over are all things really well simulated.
Well
CK2 I would say is definitely the most different betwen all of them because of that reason.
CK2 focuses a lot on the relationships between rulers, and self growth as a ruler, and making an interesting or goofy story for your dynasty
I'm waiting for CK3 to be cheap before I buy it
Also to close the circle HOI specifically covers the lead up to WW2
Escalation, mobilisation, the build up of alliances, internal nation managment and the build up to an essentially unavoidable conflict.
EU4 is good because it's pure grand strategy. Systems interact very intricately to allow you to simulate how a country might do politically speaking
It's a lot less open as a result, but focus has its upsides
It barely has any story
EU4 in comparison is much more of a sandbox
wait. why do I have CK2?
I hear Victoria 3 is more of an economical governance simulation
I never bought this
CK2's base game is free

Never played a VIctoria so I wouldn't know
DLC is where the money is (there was a humble bundle with every DLC which is why I bought it)
Nowdays I think you can also pay a subscription
Yeah. If you want to try out all the expansions you can either pay a subscription or play with someone who has them (me)
I'm waiting for CK3 to have a similarly good deal before I buy it. I hear it has more complexity but less silliness
Nowdays I think I might go the subscription route if I start playing any PDX game from scratch.
maybe I'll install it and give it a go
I have like, maybe 2 or 3 months a year I obsess with a Grand Strategy and then it wanes off, sounds like a good idea to pay the 20 bucks for those times
Which one?
If you're installing CK2 here's what I recommend:
1- The game is super overwhelming to learn. Start simple. Pick Ireland in 1066. It's called Noob Island because there are relatively few factors to contend with.
2- Don't skip the flavor text. Events are most of the game.
Ireland? in 1066? time to norse I guess
If you need any advice feel free to ask questions. The wiki is really good.
I bounced off CK2 2 times before it finally clicked with me
Norse are more like 769
looks good
I guess the only time period paradox is missing is the pre-crusades time
Other games try to make any starting option good. This is not the case for paradox grand strategy games. Some starts are way better than others
come on paradoxy make us a Collapse of Rome game /s
CK2 can start hundreds of years before the crusades with the right expansions
It is kind of funny that some people try to start with tiny 3 provinces nations thinking it'll be an easier start because less to keep track, only to realise that's actually hardcore mode in PDX
Though it is focused on the crusades, it's more of a medieval sim
Don't buy all of them
What does it cost to buy CK2 with all the gameplay relevant expansions now when it's on sale? 30 bucks?
The expansions come in four flavors:
1- Core mechanics. There's like five of them. Get all of them or at least the ones you're interested in.
2 through 4- don't worry about it
I mean first I'd try it out to see if you like it
https://steamdb.info/bundle/3096/ this is the big bundle
That has all the cosmetic too tho
Which admittedly is a nice to have for some of them
This one has none of the cosmetics
https://steamdb.info/bundle/6208/
55 dollars for me at the deepest discount
probably better if I play the base and see if I like it at all first
Yup! And even if you like it, I would only buy like one or two DLC at a time anyway
yeah
This post summarizes what each expansion has

I've got at least 100 hours in all of these (plus Imperator: Rome, since you were looking for a game from that era [but that is only getting once a year beta patches because it didn't sell well]).
CK Series: Play as a member of a dynasty in Medieval Times the Middle Ages. While the game focuses on Europe and the Near East in and around the Crusading Period, later games have expanded the scope of time (769/867 to 1400s), play area, government styles, events in-between everything, and ends roughly with the fall of Constantinople. Just remember that you need land or it is game over (CK3 is finally an exception with the latest DLC).
EU Series: Play as a nation-state during the Exploration and Colonialization Ages (and some of the bigger events during it, like the Religious Wars in Europe, and the start of Revoluntary France/other RNG'd nation). Build trade/war fleets, command armies, follow a focus tree (because it gives you free shit), pick different tech focuses (with combos), see that every nation has a different national focus and do better at certain things, experience AI bullshit at timing/movement (to keep up with you), and learn while conquering the world isn't worth it. Also, all of the current series was built on older tech and engines (minus Project Caesar).
Victoria: Play as a nation-state (its leader, but not as strong as CK or EU) in a select 100-year period that happens to be around the life of Queen Victoria of England. See the effects of new technology on the world, scramble for the last uncivilized bits of the world, deal with the rise of different political ideologies (kinda forced with the tech), build up your economy and people, and fight limited wars (now with more flavor text). 1-2 are on older tech, while 3 is on the same engine as CK3 and EU V (with better UI). Combat is different between 2 and 3 and that is a legit point of issue.
HOI: Welcome to yet another WW2 sim game. Each game moving forward has focused less on the actual organization of forces and forced pathing to WW2 and given the player/AI more freedom to kinda do whatever (tech/focus trees still give you things to do/aim for). Since 4 was mentioned, you get a choice of any nation to play (about half do not have anything special and don't really play a role at all if kept historical), start (1936 or 1939; former gives you the ability to shape a nation better and the AI can do weird things), and then let lose to pick and choose which techs, national focuses, and fights you want to start (all with limits of course). DLCs add a lot more features and alt-history stuff that people really, really enjoy. All forces you build up yourself, but put leaders in charge to manage them (you get to pick where/how they operate though). Some economics too, but everything is designed to go to war(s). Also, ignore that there are only 3 sides (fascist, communist, democratic; indies are mostly monarchies and don't really get any benefits outside specific nations getting an overhaul at some point). Also, a lot of mods.
Imperator:Rome: Welcome to a deadish game, which takes place before the rise of Caesar, but 20ish years after the death of Alexander the Great. Pick a nation, research tech that will help you to 4x the game, realize that it is super easy to grow a navy, half the world pop are slaves (or will be), culture and religion are big factors, appeasing the 2-4 "ruling families" in your nation will take up some time (and budget), a tactics system that can be gamed with the right setup, resources that determine if certain units/benefits are available at all (trading helps), standing Legions are a game changer (needs leaders and has a history attached to it), an interesting diplo system that limits/benefits you in weird ways, and finding out a lot of limitations in game design and history (see tribes in Europe and a lot of comparisons to EU/CK that end up in other games in better forms).
This is some serious information, thanks Lunar
yes, thank you
There is a little bit of satire in there for each, but all of it is true. There is a lot of in-depth guides (and the game-sanctioned wikis for help), but the best teacher will be playing the games.
Also for CK2, the tutorial sections in-game break at three different points, but they do explain/show where things here.
Good news is that PDX tends to put these on sale/free weekends fairly regularly, so you just have to keep an eye out for that. And remember, unless the game is dead (say Rome, CK2, Vic2), newer DLCs will be discounted less (and the newest rarely gets anything).
Also, importantly for this server, Hearts of Iron 4 has one of the best My Little Pony games in existence, in the form of the Equestria at War mod.
Very well done, frankly more fun than the base game IMHO.
what is this, the crusades for ants?
oh it's just the thinger screen
"carefully check the traits of your wife"
Oh no.
From CK3, but it is one of many events that can happen.
Kid got his horse though (although the +1 to econ and a possible warhorse 10 years from now would have been good too).
Sadly, since this was a specific achievement run, he will forever dream of future travel and riding a pony instead.
oh god, he'll just stand there for 180 days begging for that pony
He got the horse the day it popped. The war I was called in to fight took my more immediate attention and that went for another 1.5 years.
As you can see, it will default to the last answer if I don't pick one (which nothing happens, outside a rep loss that will swing back to the baseline within a few years).
But yes, they can and will stand there to beg for 180 days (but time is frozen in the court screens).
First answer was 50 years of faster and safer travel, and a positive rep between my character and Turstin (and a +1 to their personal fighting stat).
Anyway, achievement was to start as Robert 'the Fox', ruler of the Kingdom of Sicily (or the duke of most of it), take and control that specific title, grab a Greek Kingdom from the Byzantines, and then convert everything I am in charge of to Catholic. Sicily was easy and the game gave me a crazy monk with a fake claim to go after the Byzantines in exchange for the Kingdom of Epirus (all of that territory).

I wish there was more adjustable FOV and windowed 21:9 support though
TF2 is still the only game I have to play with a nauseating FOV 😦

Fun fact, this is one of my favorite character designs from Skylanders ever. Say what you will about the games themselves, but when they went all out with the character designs, they really nailed them.
Except Spyro. His design sucked ass.
yeah why did spyro look like that

That looks badass
I just did something I probably should've done a long time ago but never had the chance to
actually buy a goddamn controller for gaming
Now granted because I've done PC all my life I've never actually needed one, but lately especially if I'm trying to emulate a PS2 game or play anything that isn't a fighter or a shooter, controllers sure are very comfortable, I specifically got one on the cheaper side because I didn't want to spend like 90 bucks on a DualSense if I'm not even gonna use it that much, the one I got I just kind of heard good things about purely by chance and the only downside people everywhere brought up was that it's wired which is absolutely no issue to me, so I got it
And of course I gave it a little test run doing a quick Virtuous Mission run on MGS3, I also played a little bit of the tanker in MGS2 and it works great there too
so this is gonna come in handy if I ever wanna play any more PS2 games or really even any games in general that I wouldn't otherwise play comfortably with mouse and keyboard
(also, since it's technically an xbox controller, it seems I got a little card with a 1 month free game pass ultimate membership, I don't use xbox so if anyone wants it, let me know)
DM me the code if you don't mind 🙂
Sure thing
Darn, apparently it's only for new members only, so it's still up for grabs if anyone uses Xbox and wants to try out Game Pass on Xbox or PC or something for the first time, it's 1 month free
If it hasnt been taken, could I use it, if it works since I never used Game Pass
Yeah, sure, I'll dm it to you
Oh yeah, I forgot, just in case anyone knows about these things and is curious what controller I got, I just so happened to come across some stuff about the Gamesir G7 SE, I saw some videos about it, everybody seemed pretty damn positive about the controller and how well it worked and how cheap and affordable it was, but apparently people hate wires because every video said the same thing ''this controller is almost perfect and awesome but I'll never use it because it's wired only''
Not a problem for me at all, and since I don't use controllers much but I still wanted one and this one was much cheaper than a Dualsense or an actual Xbox controller I ended up getting it
I almost only use a wired controller for latency reasons, and also because of Bluetooth problems that occur rather often
plus, I don't have to worry about the battery running out
dedicated wired-only controllers are also lighter, but I'm using an Xbox/PS5 controller
Yep, wired is just so much better I feel, don't gotta charge nothing and don't have to worry about weird connectivity stuff and the input latency, but I guess ever since controllers went wireless people got used to that really quickly but I never cared that much, back when I was a kid
we had to sit in front of the PS2 to play because the wires didn't reach that far
and to be fair the wire for this controller specifically is 3 meters so it's pretty damn long
I have a 10-meter USB extender cable, hopefully it's long enough. 😛
(it goes from my office to the living room, with a 10-meter HDMI cable alongside)
it's how I can have the couch experience from the same PC, no console needed
I have tried streaming in the past, but latency and quality are far worse than this solution and you need a "target" device to stream to, which brings its own problems
it's not a bad option, but getting 120 Hz output from an Android device's USB-C port is nearly impossible, for instance
my TV can also be a Moonlight client thanks to LG developer mode but again, it's limited to 60 Hz for some reason
I do use a wireless keyboard + mouse now, because good 2.4 GHz low-latency options do exist. I tried the Xbox controller dongle and it was terrible (constant disconnections even 50 cm away), I returned it ASAP
Yeah as much as wires can be a hassle to manage honestly I'd much rather have stable connections and little to no input lag vs dealing with connectivity issues and all that, hell I had some old earbuds that I had to get replaced but the ones I replaced them with not only have given me way more connectivity issues with the bluetooth than the others, they also don't even have a button to manually turn them on or off, they have touch controls, and I have long hair so if my hair brushes up against the earbuds or if I'm trying to get them out and press it with a finger then that's either a video skipping, pausing, or hell sometimes it even brings up the AI tool for me to speak into?
I hate it
I've never done streaming for games but I doubt I ever will, just seems more of a hassle than it's worth for me anyways, some people think it's gonna be the way to play games but we saw how Stadia ended up
I mean local streaming, where I stream games from another PC on the local network. (You can also do this over the Internet with port forwarding in place.) I don't mean using GeForce Now or the Xbox cloud gaming service
this way, you can stream any game, without being limited by what a platform provides
(I remember people buying GeForce Now during the GPU shortage as the 6-month plan was far cheaper than buying a RTX 3080, even if you renewed it for 2 years...)
streaming local games is a nice way to play demanding games at high settings on your Steam Deck or similar

I just don't know anymore
I'm really curious who keeps greenlighting generative AI, considering the amount of backlash that usually follows each individual announcement
The same people who kept green-lighting DLCs back in the 2010s, then microtransactions, then lootboxes and battle passes, etc, even though all those things were also met with enormous backlash and hate at the time
Really the only other thing that didn't take off was NFTs and I think it's because that entire technology was so ridiculously useless even the people trying to pedal it didn't think it was worth it in the end
Generative AI on the other hand, unfortunately, is already powerful enough that it can feasibly start replacing labor from artists, and it already started to, and investors are convinced that this is absolutely the future of technology and gaming, so they're going to go forward with it regardless of what people have to say and regardless of backlash, even in a case like this where the technology is absolutely useless. This particular AI in question generated a concept for gameplay based on the already existing gameplay footage it was fed, from a game that already exists, and it looks worse than the version of the game that already exists, it's almost actually useless, but you show this to an out of touch investor and he'll be convinced this is the future
Even with this example there's already people defending it, like people saying it's going to streamline the process of conceptualizing a game, something that people already figured out before with vertical slices and conceptual pre-rendered animations to visualize what a game would look like and test mechanics, but because tech people see art as a problem to be solved, the fact that it can be done faster inherently means it's better, and it's hard to convince them otherwise, because why wait for a guy to draw you concept art if you can just ask the machine to give you concept art and it can do 10 different ones in a couple minutes right?

Gaming has been saved!
SNK’s beloved Fatal Fury series first hit the market in 1991, spearheading the fighting game boom of the 1990s that swept the industry thereafter. GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES (released in 1999) has, for some time, served as the franchise’s most recent installment. But that is all about to change: 26 years on, a brand-new entry—FATAL FURY: City of ...

lol, wow, my airpods have an actual pause button so I never have this issue
I also strongly prefer cables for controllers even though I don’t care about input lag. Having to recharge it all the time is no less annoying than cable management, but way more likely to interrupt you mid-session.
The only wireless devices I personally use are
a) these airpods, partly because Apple forced the issue, but also I never pair them with anything else, and the phone itself already has to be part of a recharging habit so adding the airpod case to that is no big difference
b) my trackball mouse, because that is a fixed connection to the USB dongle with no Bluetooth headaches, and the batteries in this thing feel like they last longer than the average smartphone
Twitch is implementing a 100-hour permanent storage limit for highlights
Tweet:
Less than 0.5% of streamers exceed 100hrs & this content accounts for <0.1% of hours watched. Users will be notified.```
"Less than 0.5% of streamers" includes people who don't stream regularly.
For people who do...
For people who are unfamiliar:
1- In the past, Twitch changed so it saves all your broadcasts for 14 days, then makes them unavailable to users.
2- If you're partnered, this limit is extended to 60 days.
3- In the past, Highlights were introduced as a way for streamers to have permanent storage despite the change to broadcasts. With Highlights, you select a portion of time from a past broadcast and save it forever like a youtube video.
4- Now Highlights are capped to 100 hours, so people who want to keep an archive of all past broadcast cannot do so on Twitch.
After April 19th, you will not be allowed to make any highlights past 100 hours total:
makes sense, literally archiving all past broadcasts was always gonna be a tall order
probably should've been more exceptions for preexisting usage though
I wonder what storage cap would work for speedrunners
If they had to have storage limits, they would likely want one run's length for every gold split, one for personal best, and one run for each trick
So without infinite storage for free, the next best system is one that intelligently determines good content to keep
and that's definitely not feasible at scale
maaaaaaybe if storage was adjusted based on view counts on the highlights? probably still bad for runners, a lot of those videos are only aimed at other runners

aw mega man cats
oooh that's pretty funny
Looks like a spinoff from sonic, somehow
Sonic x Megaman went too far
''leading to a lot of insane comedy, fourth wall breaks and cultural references'' is a little misleading though because the original show in Japan also consisted of fourth wall breaks and cultural references
But I guess it was even more in the american version
I played a little bit of City of the Wolves just now and it feels just great to play
though I couldn't find many people right now I'm guessing later on tonight there's gonna be more people to fight
Kinda bummed that it doesn't have a training mode but I guess pressing buttons in the middle of a match and figuring it out is good enough
I hope I don't get any crashes again, while I was doing the tutorial I got a blue screen out of nowhere but it didn't happen again after I played some matches
Oh wow that's actually the most convincing 1980s anime editing and animation work I've seen in a project like this ever
A lot of people who try to emulate the 1980s look end up overdoing it a lot or the style clearly looks too modern, but this has everything nailed down, the muffled audio, the slight blurry visuals, the noise, the camera shake, the painted backgrounds, the actual style itself, even in-game the visuals are like that
it looks sick

Sup gamers, have y'all checked out this instant classic?
It looks really good, if only I wasn't absolutely awful at bullet hell games I'd consider it.
it's one of those genres I accepted I'll always be bad at, I tried really hard at becoming proficent in them but my ceiling is too low to actually have fun in them.
I hear ya
I know I'll never beat this game, that's for sure
But I beat Hades after grinding at it for a long time, so I think I'm decent at games like this. I like the roguelike element of it a lot.
Like, i've already learned a lot in the first 3 or 4 runs
Still, I'm really happy that the genre is alive and well, this looks pretty polished

these furies sure are fatal
I got my ass beat for 2 hours straight
and it was some of the most fun I had with a fighting game lol this game is gonna rock once I can actually go into training mode when it comes out
I actually stopped matching that guy because I accidentally pressed a bunch of buttons trying to skip the win quote and I ended up clicking on the exit match button
otherwise I would've kept going
time flies when you're getting destroyed
To be completely fair to me, I was totally figuring out what the hell Rock's arsenal was meanwhile this guy seemed to have some experience with his character already, he was very comfortably pulling off the same combos everytime and seemed to know exactly what was optimal and what wasn't, I was just pressing buttons
It was cool when I did manage to learn what moves work and managed to pull off some cool stuff, but it didn't happen that often
Most of my problems is precisely not knowing what Rock's moves are so I don't know how to pull off big damage combos, so even though my basics are solid enough it doesn't translate to any wins if I don't manage to do any damage, most of those 50 matches I lost is because he had like 20% health left because I simply didn't capitalize on any openings I managed to have
If only there was a training mode
Thanks for showing/letting me know.
I swear this game had another name in the past. Or maybe I'm thinking of a very similar game

There's a pseudo training mode in the tutorials where you're allowed infinite time so you can just step back and try shit out but it's only with Rock
Your best bet is to look up online on the SNK site the movelist of whatever character you wanna play as and just go with that and learn during a match, it sucks but it is what it is and it's only gonna be open for a few days so why not try to play as much as you can

the higher pitch voices always gave me a laugh
Okay, it's supposed to be silly, but I actually like this a lot.
Actually pulling off some cool stuff and getting some wins over here, wow
First fighting game I ever played where I didn't immediately go to play a female character too lol since there's no training mode I thought let's just stick to the basics and go with the shoto equivalent here and just figure out what's even going on
one of the attack voice lines is just "fuck you"?
No no he says ''Rock you''
It's not as noticeable with the english dub but Terry's always had random engrish phrases as his attacks and for his quotes even in Japanese
now that you mention it he does look like the type who'd play "Engrish is cool" totally straight
incidentally, maybe dumb question since I've never seriously played any fighting game, but since you mentioned "immediately play a female character", is that normally just because they're hot or is there some gendered gameplay thing going on that makes them more fun to play?
It's even ''worse'' in SF6
both
So, that's an interesting question actually because the answer for me really is just because I like girls and female characters in videogames and media in general because... I like girls, but for fighting games it's actually a legit way to pick a starting character to just straight up go with whoever you like the most even if it's just design wise
Players who may be a little bit more familiar with fighting games will probably go through the roster, find a character they like to play or feel comfortable with their playstyle and then go for that, but for complete beginners it's not uncommon for people (at least beginner-friendly fighting game enthusiasts) to just tell you to just straight up pick whoever you like the most and go from there, just because it can be so daunting to have to learn all these things and know how all these different characters work and all that, it's just better to start from a comfortable position and work from there
So for example I played a little bit of Preecha who's a new female character in this game, but her playstyle is a little unorthodox and since this open beta doesn't have access to training mode I don't feel comfortable just trying to figure out what her playstyle is, which is why I went with Rock who has a more shoto style playstyle (shoto is basically a jack-of-all-trades character in fighting games, basically a character who's good at everything which is perfect for beginners to learn)
I keep hearing "Hi Nintendo!" when Terry uses one of his moves in Smash
it would be interesting to see how female characters rank on tier lists overall (across all fighting games), but I expect it to be lower on average
Smash has only ever had one female character be considered top 1, Bayonetta, although you can choose Steve to be Alex instead depending on costume (she plays the same)
was Hungrybox playing a male or female jigglypuff
Jigglypuff is always female in Smash IIRC
I was not expecting a serious answer
for Pikachu and Pichu, it depends (some costumes are definitely female because of their "spiked" tails)
bulbapedia says "25% male, 75% female"
jinx
you'd be surprised, a joke amongst the competitive fighting game community is "dlc and female, they're going to be top tier."
For SF6 characters like Cammy, Juri and Chunners are consistently pretty high up there in terms of a tier list
For Dragonball Fighterz there's characters like Lab Coat 21, Android 18, regular A21 that are also consistently pretty good
For Guilty Gear Strive there's Ramlethal (my beloved and my main), May and Giovanna that are also consistently pretty up there
TIL "Chunners"
If there are less female characters at the top of tier lists I think it's just because on a majority there's just more male characters overall but that's for most stuff unless you have a game like Skullgirls where most of the roster is female characters for obvious reasons
Android 18, I can't wait to upgrade to it in 3 years from now.
I immediately veered towards Talim in soul calibur that introduced her. Cute design and interesting fighting style
One of my mains in SF6 (Lily) is one of the lowest tier characters if not bottom of the tier list but I play her anyways because I just think she's pretty and cute and I like her
She has a very straightforward and simple gameplay style which is fine with me because the other character I main (Juri) sometimes has very complicated combo routes especially with her Lvl 2 that can be very complicated to pull off
funny how Anachronox has a frozen village level, just like Daikatana which was made by another Ion Storm studio. You can tell the same people worked on both games, even though they were technically different studios
you're looking a little... wobbly, sir. A shame you didn't get the upgraded model format.
