They apparently made a not very well recieved VR game before
We'll see
Still impressive trailer
Usually when I watch a trailer for a non From souls all the time I can't help but think "bet this is gonna be jank"
This time it actually looked very fun to play
Have you guys ever played Donut County?
It's amazing 💕
Super simple, you're a hole and you make everything fall and make you bigger
Donut County is great
It's on many platforms even phones
was it a fun 2 hours though
I usually can't follow conversations in games but here they're so funny
Like Little Kitty Big City but funnier
I also bought the soundtrack
any game recommendations for $50 or less ?
What genre do you want?
any game that's already in your library is 100% off 😉
Next big steam sale is in November 27th
you can probably check your Epic Games/GOG/Amazon Games launchers, you surely have a few unplayed games in there
really anything, except for turn based rpgs or roguelikes
When people say "anything" they quickly learn they don't mean anything
How about Crosscode? https://store.steampowered.com/app/368340/CrossCode/
This retro-inspired 2D Action RPG might outright surprise you. CrossCode combines 16-bit SNES-style graphics with butter-smooth physics, a fast-paced combat system, and engaging puzzle mechanics, served with a gripping sci-fi story.CrossCode is all about how it plays! That's why there is a free Steam demo! Go give it a try! Take the best out of ...

yeah but i can't think of any genres i'd want off the top of my head
It's an action RPG with an MMO theme
Amazing world design, good emotional story, and pretty fun
The music is on point too
It has a demo you can try
mmo theme ?
You're playing in a fictional MMO
You meet MMO players, talk to NPCs, do MMO quests
And also do shenanigans related to meta MMO politics
i see
I will not let you drop RDR2
ok im sorry
Captain Mario doesn't have Deus Ex
OG Deus Ex is great, but it might be tricky to set up right on steam deck
im going to find all the rock carvings today
I think the guy who made Deus Ex music is a genius. I also played Human Revolution. I have Mankind Divided but I didn't open it. I don't know why, I often think about it
Oh nice, a day after my birthday
yeah for sure, it is a bit finnicky to run in general, gamma handling is still a mess last time I tried (even on Windows, it's not perfect)
I wonder if https://github.com/onnoj/DeusExEchelonRenderer fares better with regards to gamma handling
So, I've been playing some X4 with some mods and shit, and with the recent expansion you can take control of some of the enemy ships now, and they are really mean looking.
They are supposed to be a robot race or something like that, and when you get up from the seat the ship does this really loud sound, like it's mad that you are leaving it.
I decided that my ship is basically a dog now.

And the second game still isn't here, lol. How long has it been since the first trailer showed up?
The trailer I think was 7-8 years ago, so not quite that long
SUBNAUTICA 2!!!!!!
Yep, I wonder if we'll get more complicated subs with co-op now
It'd be fun to have a couple of people manning different stations
this looks cool, but how does it run on Steam Deck ?
my big runup rn is Witcher 3

I knew someone will be excited 💝
I should see if I have subnautica and give it a good try
Yeah I fuckin love subnautica
what's the story with subnautica 2 ?wasn't that Beyond Zero or whatever?
Nice that the trailer for that dropped today. Takes the sting out of the end of Tell Your Tale.
Below Zero wasn't really a sequel as it was made with the same engine and was originally designed as DLC for Subnautica 1.
I'm excited to see what a new game engine can do for the game, new sea creatures, and of course co-op
I usually never go for early access but I think I'll hop in as soon as it's available
I don't think I want to go for EA, Subnautica is special and you can explore the ocean for the first time only once
I am hoping and praying and pleading and vomiting on the floor for more complex enemy AI
Once you know where stuff is it's not the same anymore
True, I might be able to keep my hype in check
So it better be the best experience
Assuming they go for pre-made map and not random generation
Leviathans are only scary the first time. Every time after I hear one roar and I'm like "fuck off you giant asshole!"
Which is what I assume they will do
Can't wait to watch more WorstPremadeEver videos on Subnautica in the future, haha. Those guys are brilliant(ly stupid).
Idk speak for yourself, reapers were v spooky for my whole playthrough
Are there any easy tips for playing first time?
Would love to see if the guys who introduced me to Subnautica (Neebs) will play through the sequel whenever it comes out.
In Sub 1 leviathans had patrol areas, and they do in Below Zero, too, but IIRC that's after you enter an area that triggers them to spawn, and they tend to spawn above and behind you if space allows
what's the plot of subnautica 2 anyway? do you discover another ocean, under the ocean?
Ocean 2?
You and Ocean have to team up despite your differences to fight the evil Bigger Ocean
shit
I should've gone with Ocean 11
You team up with the Leviathan, who's now anime and voiced, to rob Poseidon's vault. What are you stealing? Water.
So I guess it's kind of a survival game? Like you get oxygen and have to go back before it runs out or something?
More exploration than survival
Do I have to worry about anything other than monsters when exploring?
Your ship crash lands on a planet that is mostly water and you have to survive and craft your way off the planet. There is some lore and story that is spoilers so that's all I will reveal
just like that animorphs book but with fewer moon sized seaweed hive minds
In Below Zero, you play a scientist chasing after answers on the same planet after your sister dies there under mysterious circumstances. Again, more info is spoilers
Basically, the pitch for me is that it's a survival game for people that don't like the super open sandbox of most survival games.
It has all the trappings, building bases, upgrading gear, gathering increasingly difficult to find material etc, but insteaf of it being a "you decide your own goal" kind of game, it has a narrative, very specfic goals you want to go through, etc.
I like it because I usually bounce off the sandbox survivals for the lack of specific objective, I don't enjoy doing things for no reason, so for example, if I want to build a self sufficient bases hundreds of meters under the surface, I want to have a reason to do that, and Subnautica is perfect for that.
I can't say! I had the game on CD ages ago and haven't bought it again digitally, I think? Or maybe on GOG. So dunno how well this runs
Given how old it is, performance wise is probably fine, more a matter of compatibility I'd guess
This review uses Steam Deck https://steamcommunity.com/id/heyhi-myguy/recommended/2556990/
ProtonDB says it's Linux compatible https://www.protondb.com/app/2556990?device=steamDeck
With reviews specific to Steamdeck
subnautica is a game where I think it's better if you just go in blind, honestly
I want to try but turns out I have it on PC so I think I will try to finish Hogwarts Legacy and Silent Hill 2 first
And also Pentiment, because it's leaving game pass soon but I think it's all about reading but I haven't tried but I have two weeks
Ngl, I thought Below Zero was Subnautica 2.
I guess it was actually a spin-off.
Or a side story
I thought it's a bit like DLC
Side story. Same planet, different location, and I think a 2 year difference between dates?
This is what a great racing game looks like before it dies.
(look at the target time)
what the hell is this
I can't tell what that is, but the image reminds me of those carpets from when I was a kid
Me when I make a go karts track in OpenRCT2
(the longer it is the higher the excitement rating)

oh and I also have a functional RPG-7 in my workshop right now
what does "Simulate Witcher 2 save" mean ,
Are you playing Witcher 3? If so, I think it might be an option where it looks at your save file for Witcher 2 and carries over the choices you made in that game to the new game in Witcher 3. Not many games do that these days
probably choices carry over from that game to new one,if it affects dialogue or such
Refer to this guide
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/should-you-simulate-a-witcher-2-save-in-the-witcher-3
If you haven't played 2, definitely simulate a save
huh, I figured if you hadn't played 2 then the content it'd unlock in 3 wouldn't be of interest?

hope it works on Steam Deck
Still waiting for dlc announcement
That might have been cancelled because of the leaks.

What was this? 1 year and a half?
Pretty much
Pretty good
Usually the pc ports of PlayStation games come 1-2 years after release.
I wish they were released on pc and ps5 at the same time
ough
No DLC confirmed https://blog.playstation.com/2024/10/18/marvels-spider-man-2-arrives-on-pc-january-2025/
This is one of the videogame weapons of all time.
Huh. Seems like the Horizon 1 remaster is being done by nixxes too. Not a port, but full blown taking over the remaster part
yeah, they are doing a lot more this time
lol @ the comments complaining that PlayStation PC ports are a thing
Why are they already doing a remaster for it? The first game wasn't released that long ago, was it?

The remaster is extremely unnecessary
Remasters are one thing that seem to be going well for Sony atm
It just feels silly to remaster an already fantastic-looking game within a short amount of time. Feels like a waste of money, time, and resources.
Lower expense for a probably good return on investment
the remaster adds a bunch of modern upscaling/antialiasing/frame gen options, which is always welcome
And HZD is pretty beloved, a lot of people myself included feel the story was superior by a fair margin, but the main difference to the second one was the gameplay and graphics. H:FW does look significantly better
I've never played it, surely I will enjoy it once it goes on sale
they're remaking/remastering Until Dawn and it looks a thousand times worse
It's one of my favorite games, as well as one of my fiancée's. The story is fantastic, the 'ancient history' part of the story is discovered in a fascinating way and it's a super interesting history
Ngl, kinda like the left side better. The clothing has better detailing, and her hair doesn't look plasticy. That said, the right pic has more detail in the skin overall, but the left side has more skin definition and shows more muscle, which makes it more realistic.
Which one is the remaster?
the one on the right
remember when they said Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 didn't need remakes
Yeah, left one is better
they were right, it was totally unnecessary, but the remakes were great anyway
Dome Keeper 4.1 is out
Hey Keepers, It's been a while since "A Keeper's Duty" released and we've been closely watching the feedback. We incorporated this into some improvements and a lot of balance changes. Prestige Because of the big changes to balance, we are starting season 7 for prestige now. Please keep in mind the warning about fairness that you see ingame: Peop...
It has mod support put back in, and serious balance changes
They are also still working on some multi-player type game so it's gonna serve to drum interest up again
The tv series got put on hold because the showrunner had some scandals from previous series he ran, so they took him off that and put it on hold. I still am aiming to play the role of Faro, if I can
at a glance... not sure I have a preference? the difference is easy enough to see but neither jumps out at me as clearly better
The one on the right is essentially the same model as Forbidden West, so it's a realignment for it to match
Honestly, if the remaster works better on PC it'd be worth the upgrade
Wow, this looks worse tho
Very different aesthetic that fit the wilderness survivor a lot worse, meh.
one of the complaints about HFW is that the cutscene lighting can be too artificial, that's why I called it cinematic
cinematic lighting is full of artifices, because real life lighting without any extras often looks boring, if not plain unreadable at times
you should see the lighting setup used for fancy SFM/Blender renders, it often makes zero sense from a real life perspective. 17 lights floating around the character with seemingly random positions? Yes, because why not 🙂
Yep if that image on the right is the remaster then I think it looks worse, a demaster if you will…
Adult Gohan going super sayian no hand lore accurate?
I want sparking zero but id like to finish the anime first
Is this in Dragon Ball Super?

I think you can always take your time. It's single player game, it's not going anywhere and it will be magical no matter time you get it ✨💖
One question comes to mind, do you think you know to what house you'll be sorted to or which one you want to choose?
hmm
i'll probably be sorted and then if i dont like the choice it makes pick my own
ive always like Slytherin though
they have the coolest common room i think
Don't worry. Just like in books and movies you will have conversation and it will suggest but you can always choose 💖
But you're hufflepuff
The games I feel love for I play super different. Here I walk slowly and admire, so I think it will be super super long journey
I think it's astounding how everything looks
man i probably am
I asked manechat, they told Hufflepuff. Sorting hat said the same so here I am 💛
But if I would wonder, I would also wonder Ravenclaw or Slytherin. But not Ravenclaw because it's for super smart. I'd like to be, yes but maybe I don't fit.
But ambitious yes 💚
In reality the house sorting is less about what you actually are like and more about how you seem to others
Hm how do you think so?
The questions they use are always about how you'd act and not what you think
I think that's true
That's interesting
But isn't what I think making me what I would do?
People with differing internal thought processes can behave the same way depending on their circumstancs.
I think Flitter you would be in Ravenclaw 💙
That's true. I'm a Ravenclaw or Slytherin.
The three personality tests that are considered actually robust and tell you what someone is like are Big Five, Hexaco, and MMPI.
who is is the headmaster or headmistress in Legacy is it a new character
They're the best tests because:
1- They're based on real data. Scientists came up with the after studying a lot of people.
2- They are useful! They predict how people might do at work or in relationships as well as their mental health.
3- They're robust. They don't break if you give them to people from different cultures.
4- They're accurate. They are good at detecting when someone is lying about their answers.
5- They don't try to put people into buckets. People are too complex for that.
I think I'd either be Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Those two seem to fit the best for me. Certainly not Slytherin.
You're a Gryffindor or Ravenclaw
why am i a hufflepugf
Because you seem like it
I am okay with Gryffindor too
i like all of the houses tbh
Slytherin and Gryffindor have the best common rooms and dorms though
Slytherin, you say?
yeah why

since it came up, might be worth posting an example to make this less abstract
I happen to still have my results from an online self-administered Big Five test:
behold my mediocre agreeability
Just tried all three of these, here are the results (ignore the "validity" thing on the MMPI test, that's the computer guessing if I was actually being truthful, which I was; though I am slightly concerned about the 40% schizophrenia result, lol...):
Love the perfectly balanced feminine/masculine identity though, lol
did the one Ixrec used
That must have taken a long time!
For the MMPI, you should only trust the results if performed by an expert (the advice also applies to the other ones but that one particularly.)
Fair enough
The validity result is specifically about whether you're consistent in questions that secretly measure the same thing but are worded differently
An expert will be able to have a talk with you and figure out what you actually think
If they are worded differently, then they don't, by definition, mean the same thing.
Saying "I don't like this thing" is not the same thing as saying "I hate this thing", because your dislike could be minor or bordering on indifference, but hatred implies that your dislike is major and that you feel strongly about it. Both answers are similar, but can mean very different things.
Wording in questions is important, and giving different answers to two differently worded but similar questions doesn't mean that you're being dishonest with yourself.
They don't mean the same thing
They measure a secondary hidden quality about you that is not mentioned.
An expert can just ask you properly, unlike a digitized review
Yeah
I get that the tests I took just now aren't exactly the real thing, just approximations, since you can't really get official results from anything or anyone but an expert, and the validity results rely on an automated computer algorithm that doesn't take the thinking aspect into account when calculating its data, just the direct answers themselves and the numbers.
It's been like 2 years; why am I slowly getting sucked back into overwatch (2) suddenly?

after a decent sized playthru alone, I came to the realization I discovered when I stopped playing; I fucking suck at playing OW2
like I'm not even one to defend myself, I just fucking suck
that's fair, same here.
then again, I did play the game 98% of the time (both 1 and 2) alone
so it might just be superficial
doubt it tho
overwatch relies on teamplay for success right?
pretty much, yea
so it'd be easier to be effective if you happened to have a squad on voice with ya who you get along with
I don't really have any friends to play with tho

You tried the Ys X demo yet?
I didn't
Not really interested in demo actually
Also probably will go for 9 before 10
I can buy 10 rn, but I'm waiting for NA version because of Japanese interface
Well the demo allows you to save going into the main release which is out on Friday
9 is a great game too
the Ys PC port team made a series of really insightful devlogs

Me at my brain right now.
They’re simple to answer but it takes long if you do actually think about it.
Which is what I did lol.
this. I would not say "forever" imo
50 questions im out..
What happened to the good old days when you could answer 7 questions and they would tell you which pony you were the most like?
Some of these tests are 100+ questions
I think I did one that was 181
I just did mine, am i very smart?

Unfortunately, you did not meet our Intellect cutoff of 65. You have until the end of the day before you are de-modded
I want to see a bunch of the results from this one. I think I'm well above server average for masculinity -- and femininity.
Not interested in MMPI without expert assistance
I also did an FTI because it sounded interesting. Was a bit more time consuming ngl, but apparently I am more estrogen.
So yeah, so many weird tests to just have fun with. As always, look for professionals when possible.
Hmmm
I'm somehow 56% male and 56% female. Which makes me 112% agender.

heh, whenever I watch a video from them, I sometimes think "how is a casual viewer supposed to understand this" since they don't always spend a lot of time explaining concepts
graphics programming is one of the things I do for a living, so it's fine for me
I don't but it's captivating
It's funny that the biggest issues the remake had were mostly technical in the end, just a lot of really bad stutters or low frames generally
the remake looks pretty good otherwise

Been watching a streamer play it and it's really fantastic, I'm very mad that I'm pretty deep into an SMTV playthrough right now that I gotta get back to because I would've totally played this instead
Very cool, it has a lot of obviously Persona-esque mechanics but a hell of a lot more streamlined and it's really appealing to me, it also has a really cute redhead elf lady which already makes it a 10/10
I like when NPCs unintentionally do the Spider-Man pointing finger meme

Sorry, I typed that before seeing your latest message. I'll cease.

back during the Wordle fad people were playing lots of Wordle variants here, apparently Quordle's one of the few that had sticking power
the new Vampire Survivors DLC NO ONE expected! Ode to Castlevania is coming October 31st to all platforms 🍷
our biggest DLC to date, there's so much content you're guaranteed at least another 10 hours of gameplay 😈
🧄 20+ characters
💥 40+ weapons
🗺️ 1 MASSIVE stage + more!
Dang
I wish Vampire Survivors looked as good as the trailers for Vampire Survivors
I'm terrible at that one
my current set is wordle, dordle (x2 words), quordle (x4), and sedecordle (x16). I'm running 100% in the first and last, and 98% in the middle two, with longest streaks of right around 200 puzzles in those. Quordle is IMO the best balance, in the sense that you sometimes get difficult words that take lots of excess guesses, but it's very rare that you don't have a lot of compatible / crossover information among any of the words to be able to get all of them within the allotted guesses.
you had all the information to guess "hoser"
I'm not Canadian
i kinda like how shitty it looks
it's charming
I think Boneraiser Minions is charming bad
to anyone who's played Black Mesa on Steam Deck, is there a way to make it so it doesn't have horrific lighting glitches ?
try forcing the use of the Proton version
I think this should already be the default given the poor state of the native Linux build, but force it just in case
Force the use of Proton in the game properties in Steam library and select Proton Experimental
you can also:
Change dynamic lighting quality to "Potato" in the video settings.
in general, be mindful of the settings, the game is still quite demanding on a modern desktop PC when maxed out
thanks Cali, both of these worked 😊
Playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links: I just went through a battle where it was round two. The person I went against summoned 20 different monsters and somehow won in two rounds. Talk about card game sweat...
Just turn off the audio... Sorry
would it be sacrilegious to say im preferring Black Mesa to base HL1
Not really, Half Life 1 and Black Mesa are more different than you'd think but despite stuff being changed there's a lot of people that prefer Black Mesa over HL1
Black Mesa is a modern take on HL1. Mechanics are mostly the same, but it definitely has a modern polish
It's mostly just different, it has the benefit of being done decades after the original game, but there's still a lot about the original that makes a lot of people recommend it over Black Mesa, with most people agreeing that Black Mesa is great to play after, but a lot of people aren't gonna do that so in that case going for Black Mesa is perfectly fine, it's just different so it's really up to preference in the end
Map design wise and all, the first part feels the same as HL1, with the aforementioned graphical upgrade and minor tweaks. Xen, I both love and hate the new version. HL1 version was absolutely too short. Black Mesa version is stunningly gorgeous and super creative
But... SO. GODDAMN. LONG.
progress report on my OW2 gameplay; I'm getting better, but I'm still not quite used to the new maps
I need to start playing with people I know ("know" being used loosely here)
I think most people will be this way if they haven't played OG, especially younger people
Black Mesa feels like a 8th-gen console game with oldschool sensitivities, while HL1 feels like a fancy Quake mod that jumpstarted a company into the state it is today
I play OW2 from time to time, so don't hesitate to ask
feel free to ask if you need any help,i play ow2 actively,if EU could maybe even queue up
Masahiro Sakurai's YouTube series ended; according to him it costed roughly 90m JPY (~600k USD) making it
He made 0 JPY from the video series
257 Videos
oof, they are some high quality videos too
I guess that's why everyone sticks to simpler to make videos for the most part?
i really like HL1, it's extremely revolutionary and an important game, but some of the bits are weirdly frustrating lol
Maybe, although he probably didn't make money simply because he wasn't trying to
I want to try but for some reason I'm weirdly scared to try
I feel like all these different powers will be overwhelming. For me to use or see someone and try to remember what power they have

agh, only problem is that I wanna clear Bahamut again for the Cyborg class, but I need to go the other path to upgrade the world tier
this tiny rogues update is fuckin' fire btw
i dunno why but they added skills and now each character feels way more unique
these days, there is no reason to disable monetization since the amount of displayed ads is the same
(as long as you're eligible to it)
stick to playing a single character, most competitive players do that
maybe 2 to fill different roles. Technically, playing 5 characters is enough for any quickplay situation
except as a statement / waiver of ulterior motive, but yeah
Well, as someone said, it's not about money
well, you can make Google poorer at least 😛
since they won't keep 100% of the ad revenue anymore
I doubt Sakurai cares about that part

yeah I can vc, just don't expect stellar callouts; also I have't played comp since season 2 of OW1, so I don't feel too confident doing that; let's just stick with regular queue if that's all good with you

Ok Sean, we get it. You're sorry. You can stop now.
At this point, it feels like NMS is just flexing on Bethesda.
"That is how you do a space game."
Ehhhh
I’ve been struggling to get into NMS with the constant bugs I keep crashing into, mostly getting stuck at the Nexus & map generation being wonky.
I’d prefer if they can start fixing the bugs instead of adding more stuff.
It's only for two weeks, FYI.

Glass is such a fun word to say
and the World of Glass is a big part of the NMS lore
I need to brush up on the lore, I haven't played enough of the main quests to know
Is that the thing on the Artemis path? that place they talk about?
https://old.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/10gxkda/world_of_glass/ Third comment explains it in better detail.
I'm not sure if I should read this or just play the expedition blind lol
The World of Glass is part of the Sentinels lore. The quest where you get your sentinel companion, Laylaps, is one of the first major introductions to it.
okay! I haven't gotten that quest yet haha, hmm well the expedition is only two weeks
maybe I do the expedition first, since it's time limited
then go on to do catch up on the main save
i'm shocked! Well. Not really.

I've always wondered if I'd enjoy Shantae
Having played a few
They're okay metroidvanias with a focus on platforming. Pretty shallow
The art is most of the appeal
I played Pirate's Curse last year. It's okay. Might've been more impressed if I played it when it was new.
I played it when I was new and I share your opinion aside from the last part
Bummer, I liked the characters but I don't know if I wanna get into an entire franchise just for that if the gameplay is just basic
The writing is cheesy and the female characters are perfectly proportioned and underdressed (aside from the one token big lady)
It's really weird how popular the series is
oddly I was completely unaware of it until maybe last year?
I only know about that series through speedruns of the game
It seems popular amongst that crowd, maybe it's fun for a speedrun?
It's fine as a speedrun
i mean, it's gotta be better than Mario Party, which is strangely popular for some reason
Mario Party is incomparably different, IMO
in terms of gameplay? I guess so, but I feel like if you're comparing speedruns as options to get into there's gotta be someway to compare them in terms of RNG tolerance, tricks, ease of entry, etc.
The biggest concern when getting into a game to speedrun is how many other people play and speedrun it
That'll affect the competition you get and the quality of the resources that help you get better
Of course, the game should be fun too, but that's usually the case in speedrun-popular games
Fair enough
do you speedrun anything?
Me?
i love Mario Party's bullshit
well both of you
I used to try "Speedrunning" Star Fox Adventures
but i didn't know it had a name at the time
it was just fun to do
"Luigi wins by doing nothing"
Apart from that, I've attempted XCOM 2 fast runs, if not speed runs because the tech makes it boring.
Crystal Project is one
A speedrun is any run where you try to go fast! The accepted definition is super loose and allows everyone to have fun
That's good to know 😄
I generally try to speedrun any game that I finish and enjoy enough to redo
Ah yeah, sounds fun to do!
I need to get on playing through PREY's campaign. I feel like that'd be a fun speedrun after I've beaten it once
For Crystal Project I'm trying to develop a low% strategy, where you beat the game while getting the fewest movement abilities and classes and equipment possible
ahh yeah, Low% sounds challenging, how does Crystal Project work as a game? is it procedual generated levels or hand crafted?
It's a hand-crafted voxel world, early Final Fantasy combat
sounds good! hope it goes well with the Low% development

playing Black Mesa and just thinking about how weird it must have looked to the outside world when Gordon launches the rocket
i watched a video of fake news broadcasts put together talking about the Black Mesa incident it was cool
I finished a second playthrough of that game a few days ago
it's still really good-looking, not many GameCube games look better than this (and run at 60 FPS to boot)
someone made an Amethyst Edition mod which adds a bunch of QoL features, and I made a HD font that runs with that mod too (prior to that, you had to stare at 480p text even with HD textures)
Is Star Fox Adventures good? I remember a lot of people back in the day not really liking it.
it was panned by players on release, but it sold decently and many critics were quite positive (remember that it was against Wind Waker...). These days, it's very much a cult classic, people are starting to regain appreciation for it
I 100% recommend it, although it does have some filler content when you compare it to its unreleased N64 version, Dinosaur Planet. This version leaked in 2021 and has a fan patch that makes it playable with a few issues. There is a Discord if you'd like to get that running, I can DM you the link
I've played both and Dinosaur Planet has an overall better vibe/more consistent story, but SFA has the better graphics of course
i really didnt like starfax temperatures
i owned it on GC, i wanted to like it, theres a lot of genuinely great stuff there, but... it just doesnt work
it might be worth trying Dinosaur Planet and see if the original vision fits you more
it's the best unreleased game I've ever played by far
maybe
it's also a very good looking N64 game, probably one of the best-looking ones for the system

this game has some gooooood character designs
Maybe I should check that game out
It's extremely good
People that have finished it are saying it's one of Atlus' best games yet
I will admit, the modern setting of P5 made it so in part the setting didn't land with me because it had a strong vibe of "fuck the system" in a way that felt very juvenile.
Metaphor setting seem like it'll be a much better fit for me, I will definitely set aside sometime next month to try to get through it.
I still did love P5, to be clear
Persona games in general feel very juvenile in comparison to SMT or even Metaphor in this case
Not in a bad sense, but in a literal sense
At least now you're finally playing as an adult character amongst other adults
p6 please have an adult femc in college
(it won't happen)
I only ever played Persona 3 but i never finished it
I mean it basically is for now, until they make another Persona and call it 6
the question is if it even is persona without the school stuff
i played a little of Persona 5 and kind of got bored after the first dungeon
I am enjoying p5 but I definitely enjoyed p4 more, I feel. Though I think I'm only halfway through p5
P4 was my first intro to persona though so I may be biased
It has a lot of Persona-esque mechanics, but a hell of a lot more streamlined
To the point that if Persona 6 comes out, unless they do things like this, I'd say it's not worth the hassle
But also a lot of SMT, so it's kinda like Atlus' Elden Ring
it definitely does seem to be that the first persona game you play is your fav
I can see myself liking p4 more than p5 if I had played that first
holy hell
Finally, TF2 is truly saved
he finally washed his grody pants
nice!!
it looks a lot better, it's more consistent with other classes
So many TF2 animations are about to be carbon dated, lol

New prime gaming additions
Monster Train is pretty okay. It has serious problems but is still a great contender in its genre
The biggest Monster Train problem is that Slay the Spire exists
That said if it didn't exist neither would Monster Train
It's a very good game, and it's definitely its unique spin to the formula, but STS is just such a well done game on variety and balance that it's hard to go against it
Yeah, it's a B tier roguelite deckbuilder, which is still pretty good
The A tier ones are Slay the Spire, Wildfrost, Slice and Dice, maybe Dicey Dungeons?
I suspect this is common to all of the games that both require a high time investment and have a huge focus on storytelling (which historically I think is mostly "RPGs"?)
your second Final Fantasy or Persona or whatever is inevitably going to feel a bit more familiar, but because story's a big thing it's asking you to get invested in a totally new set of characters, so most of that prior emotional attachment won't automatically transfer the way it would for a direct story sequel or a game where you primarily care about the mechanics
I think a lot of people only find the time to play 1-3 of those, which is not enough to surpass that initial slump and reach the "oh, this is even better than the last 5 RPGs I played" experience (like I had with Disco Elysium)
I definitely break the mold for persona games in that regard
Bounced off P4 but loved P5
I think it's the full on commitment to the whole phantom thieves that P5 has
Felt very fresh in regards of aesthetic and theme compared to other JRPGs
makes sense, P3 and P4 are much more focused on the ordinary high school stuff at the beginning
does P5 even do any high schooling before the first dungeon?
Hm, maybe a day or two
No wait, actually
You stumble into it on the way to school on your first day
I remember because you get yelled at for that
just to make you extra angy at the teachers there
Ponkis if I were to buy a laptop (or a normal PC I don't know), what GPU and CPU would it need so I could play Sony games in 60 FPS and some Steam games? 💻
Hard question
very vague question, what game more specifically? dont have to name all of them but just give some examples that you think may be more demanding to run
With Sony games I assume GOW Ragnarok and Horizons 2 are the most recent examples
Of Sony first party exclusives ported to PC I mean
Yes and maybe The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima
The answer depends by a few things.
You can get to 60 fps on a 1080 monitor while sacrificing some fidelity on a relatively cheap platform for most games.
If you want to future proof, or have a more pixel dense monitor, you probably want to aim a bit higher.
Also depends by how well the game has been ported, most Sony games are really solid, I heard bad things of The Last of Us 1 and I know Horizon 1 port was absolute dogshit
Can't get to a stable 60 on that one even after the patches, while I have no problem with getting a pretty solid 60 on Ghost of Tsushima on a 4060 Ti which is a mid range GPU
This PC has a bunch of Ram, a pretty old GPU (Intel i5-8600k) and a RTX 4060 ti and it does meet the recommended specs for Ragnarok
Couldn't tell you how it actually runs tho since I have yet to buy it.
there can be many reasons
1.corporate greed
2.inexperience of the studio with that specific thing
3.corporate greed
4.corporate greed

You make a good point, I went in p5 completely blind, so meeting the characters was like meeting someone new in real life, whereas I already had some knowledge of the characters by the time I played p3 and p4
It definitely plays into the game being an experience cause I was discovering how the gameplay and characters are in real time, whereas with the others I already kinda knew how it goes by then
It's also harder to make a software for pc than for a console, because on a console you know exactly on which hardware it's gonna run, and on PC you have to account for a large variety of different configurations of components all from different brands.
Which is why when some devs go to make a port, like, a year and a half after the release, often it's even another team that does it since they are busy with the sequel by then, sometimes it doesn't come out that great.
Sometimes it comes out awesome tho, Horizon 2, Ghost of Tsushiam, both GoW are great ports
With the four games you mentioned I fed ChatGPT the specs and had it make a consolidated list that will run all of them:
### Recommended Requirements
- **Processor**:
- Intel Core i7-8700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
- **Memory**: 16 GB RAM
- **Graphics**:
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD RX 5700 XT (8GB)
- **Storage**: 190 GB available space on SSD```
for laptops, you will probably need a 4060 GPU in there
Logical increments is pretty good, but might be a bit too complex to recommend here
Thank you very much 💖💖
Ask chat gtp to tell you what to buy
That’s how I ended up buying a super computer to run ChatGPT because ChatGPT told me to do it
Now, I know what you’re thinking: if ChatGPT told me to jump off a bridge, would I do it? Yes. Yes I would.

Oh undertale yellow! I found it a lot of fun
We'll watch your career with great interest
Ah, one day I plan on playing this. It would be nice to go into it blind
Y'all remember my Undyne phase?
yeah it had me dying
oke i'll try and minimise spoilerinos

you could spoiler tag when discussing the game
I do want to see what you think of the rest of the stuff there
i could but i'm lazy, l m a o
Good suggestion, but again, lazi
Undyne is a good character to have a phase about
i intent to play undertale. eventually.
...its only been installed on my pc waiting for like 3 years now
watch meganought get the yet undiscovered by community special dialogue for letting the game just sit there
"well, we used to have a story to tell here, but by the time you showed up we already got that last kid we needed so. it's just an empty hole now. sorry bud"
lol
that would be really funny actually
i wonder if its possible to code a game to tell how long it was installed or owned before playing first time
depends on the installation/ownership method, but I would expect Steam has an API which exposes that sort of information
I'm pretty sure they expose last played time
Ah yeah that's a good example
yes, surely by checking file modification date in the game's installation folder
ownership date is harder, unless the user gives the game authorization to use the Steam API (which has a permission prompt, like when you log in to a site using Steam). I don't think this is available on public profiles alone
mm-hmm, this is the kind of feature where you basically have to snoop on the environment you've been installed in
i love you The Stanley Parable
like how DDLC adds a bonus jumpscare if it detects you're streaming, but it's using a hardcoded list of streaming sites to do that
i need to rewatch a playthrough of that game or just get Plus for my Steam Deck
it's so good
yeah the new content in Plus is well worth it
what was the last game u played
it's always fun looking at credits for indie games
it's like how Link to the Past was made by like 10 people
Oh man, I just thought of something: now that we have elevated railways for Factorio, what would happen if they add elevated belts?
and you already have underground belts
Yes....but what about both?
Tbf, spaghetti is a very important step in any Factorio player's life, lol
It's kind of weird that nintendo in the early 3d era kept doing fixed camera stuff
the camera in OoT wasn't fixed, was it?
It was not
It was but indoors
and in certain areas like the hyrule market area
otherwise it was free cam and first person
SM64 wasn't fixed camera
I have finished the CoD BO6 campaign
What do you think, without spoilers? And did you play other ones to compare?
It was pretty good imo. Ive only played some of the BO1 campaign and finished the cold war campaign. I'd say its pretty on par with the cold war campaign, but it has been a bit since i finished cold war
Middle-earth Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War were on sale so i bought both of them
Nice
Played a bit of BOPS 6 campaign and... it's fun, engaging, and has novel gameplay not seen in CoD games before? My ass would have actually paid for this if I didn't have GamePass
I'll even get stuck into multiplayer for a bit because it has earned that attention from me
I’m pretty far ahead on it. I usually complete it within a few hours but I’ve been playing zombies as well. What part are you on in the campaign?
Only on mission 3, I'm pacing myself because I know the campaign is short
I wouldn’t say it’s short. It’s longer than Cold War if you take your time it can take 9-10 hours and that’s long for a cod campaign

also! there's tools somewhere for the community to make maps for it
I can see the maps in the community workshop, but Idk how easy it is to make em

Ah, so 2017 Doc from Rainbow Six Siege.
lmao yeah
back in the day, Doc wasn't able to heal. He could only revive injured people.

Exactly what I was thinking of, lol
I just love the two goons at the end going "ohhhh yes"
something bugged out lol

I guess in my favor but holy shit
I hope I'm not shut down for cheating lol
I definitely didn't do anything and it was not this way when I played yesterday
Gonna do a quick search and see if it has happened to anyone else
Yep, sure enough, people are running into the same thing
After missions people are either having negative billions or positive billions in cash
Guess it's good it went positive for me lol or else it'd be an annoying bug that would make progression impossible
Congrats on winning the lottery ig
Holy crap, already six years...

and you still haven't beaten it
🤠
i love just riding around on my horsey
maybe i'll try hunting a legendary animal today
They should make Manhunt 3 on a similar budget
It'd be a big, ass game.
I kinda feel like the whole cultural thing of the time that led to the creation of Manhunt isn't as prevalent or as strong anymore to warrant either a remake or another sequel
I know people want either one of those but I feel like it'd be just making one for the sake of it rather than making a game like that because you want to push boundaries for the time
I unironically think the series has a lot of unrealized potential
I agree
the patient gamer in me: I'll play this in 7 years from now.
gotta finish the 3 or 4 open world RPGs I intended to play first... 😛
I keep very close memories of doing that 💖💖
Shadow of Mordor is awesome it's like Arkham but LotR
You're just missing the revenge and the friend thing from Shadow (that got taken down years ago).

an old league short that's relevant to a convo in mane atm
Ryze scours Runeterra for fragments of a forgotten past, each step bringing him closer to incredible power—and terrible ruin.

i thought that was gollum
hmm, the similarities are odd, but a convergence of ideas I think
given Ryze was reworked like, 4 times
Can't even remember the last time they did anything at all with Ryze
Except the fact that they can't seem to figure out what the hell his gameplay should be so they keep reworking him
Nah I've never been into the competitive league scene
I also haven't played in years
Good thing they added Vanguard or else I would've came back to the game
yeah lmao
same here
Fuck Vanguard
also the 500$ ahri skin
that's kinda nonsense too
They laid off one of the main artists involved in that skin too
yeah, it sucks

■KIM DONG HWAN (Voice Actor: Jerron Bacat)
Son of taekwondo master Kim Kaphwan, and no stranger to the martial art himself—a true taekwondo prodigy, as he puts it. Dong Hwan’s unabashed, happy-go-lucky lifestyle after the previous tournament earns him a stern reprimand from his father, which promptly takes him down a peg or two. Turns out it’s j...
I have no idea who that is, but cool to see more of the roster
Still probably gonna main Mai or Preecha
Hell maybe even Terry, he looks fun
He's the son of Kaphwan

I know how to do the liberty falls easter egg, i just need some help with it
So I'm playing a new Star Ocean game I never knew that had come out in 2022, and I like the graphics, really like the gameplay, but a couple of things are keeping me from giving it a higher rating: the character animations outside of combat (both playable and NPC) and the voice acting. Star Ocean usually does great in all departments, so I have no idea how they screwed up the voice acting and non-combat animations on this one.
New Star Ocean 👀
Maybe I wait for this one to be on sale lol. Not droppin 60 dollarydoos for mixed reviews
Much of the voice acting sounds stilted or simply read out. Some of the NPCs sound more emotive than the playable characters. Plus, the into theme really threw me. Not what I was expecting for a Star Ocean game. Speaking of emotive, the characters' facial expressions hardly change. I mean, The Last Hope was no Emmy or Oscar-winner, but at least I could feel from what the characters were saying.

I wished I could read more of this without having to sign into/making a bluesky account ffs but apparently there are hackers in the game. They exploit local save data.
Honestly, with a name like ‘webfishing’, it seems kinda obvious.
"Grabbing people's IPs and stealing steam accounts"
It's an in-game mail vulnerability. They can at best send phishing links to people. Having someone's IP is not really a risk. Stealing an account can only be done if you fail to recognize the phishing.
The game should still not be played until this is fixed but the issue is not as serious as described
man i love phish
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAjOb2r1970&list=WL&index=1 I want 890m graphics so badly
We've tested the 680M and 780M graphics multiple times with different games and I'm always impressed with how well they perform. Today, we're finally checking out the RDNA 3.5 Strix Point 890M, the next step up in iGPUs.
The 890M is part of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU found within the Beelink SER9.
Yeah, I don’t see how Steam accounts get grabbed. I think its just misinformation for now.
Sale on spooky games. Oxenfree 2 is 96% off!
Oh, it's 90% off, but slightly cheaper for me because I own some of these items
Steam also displays this on the shopping cart page
Woo multiplayer Buckshot for people
I look forward to a tournament scene haha

replaying SotN on pretty CRT screen, fox knows very little jojo but I believe this is a direct reference to it
Unfortunately we have some bad news. We have to delay Early Access for 3 weeks. The new date is the 6th of December.
Have you guys seen this? Wireless controller with hall effect analogs for like 20 dollars? https://youtu.be/KouhqKE2hy4?si=aRUs8gECRvp5tlb3
Anbernic's first controller is not really innovative at all -- in fact, it's basically just a knockoff 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth controller. But what makes it compelling is its price, just $18 plus shipping. And at this price point, the RG P01 just might be the most solid and fully-featured controller in this very crowded segment.
Buy one her...
Is it any good though?
The fact that it uses the hall effect does not automatically makes it high quality
With RGB lights and back paddles?
Features are not build quality.
I don't know yet im watching but it really seems good and at this price? I will never buy Xbox wireless controller again if everything checks out
A lot of companies make really bad products that technically have the right features to trick people into buying them
Yeah yeah I know
A good controller is durable. This quality is important but hard to quantify on a spec sheet
hmmm why woulod it matter if a switch contoller uses Hall Effect for the bumpers? I didn't think the switch saw those as analogue
if it works on PC, they can be analog
Concord's studio seems to have shut down, so no Concord comeback happening anymore
I know, terrible news
shaking and crying rn
more like gonecord
have you guys played Psychonauts
Thank you to the voice cast of Clock Tower: Rewind's motion comics! @TheSphereHunter plays the part of Ms. Mary, a teacher at the orphanage who accompanies Jennifer and her friends to the Barrows mansion. The game is out now on consoles and PC! https://wayforward.com/games/clock-tower
The 16-bit nightmare is back with Clock Tower: Rewind! Run, hide, and evade the murderous Scissorman in this survival-horror classic, released outside of Japan for the first time, with extra content. Available now digitally on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox, & PC! https://wayforward.com/games/clock-tower

Clock Tower is here
All the new bonus stuff is pretty cool, makes getting this a lot more worth it at least
Today marks the release of Clock Tower Rewind! A port of the 16 bit horror classic! I had the honor of voicing the character Mrs. Mary in the game's new motion comic cutscenes! Thank you WayForward for having me on!
🕰️👁️✂️
her voice acting is actually pretty good too
1 and 2, loved both, randomized 1 a few times
thinking about getting them for my steam deck because the artstyle and aesthetic looks appealing ive also seen people compare Gravity Falls to it
I could see that, they are both in paranormal forest settings and there's arguably a similar vibe of quirkiness to it all
that's about as far as similarities go ftr
yeah i figured but still
isn't there a Trees of Mystery reference in one of them though ?
doesn't ring a bell but I didn't dig super deep into easter eggs, especially in 2
ooooh that
oh "Trees of Mystery" is an irl thing, I thought you were referencing some GF or Psychonauts thing I forgot the name of
anyway I think you're right I just never made a connection there
oh lol
yeah it's one of the many west coast tourist traps that inspired the feel of the Mystery Shack
I played the first one and didn't exactly know where to go and stuff like that. But if was pretty creative
Psychonauts is classic af
https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/50947/just-announced-cyberpunk-2077-ultimate-edition-coming-to-mac
Well that just happened.
I guess its neat.
It’s be funny if it included a mod that appleified the cyberpunk
It is weird that GOG owners do not get a Mac copy.
GOG Galaxy can be installed on Macs with less headache than Steam.

thats simpl because making games for mac sucks
making mac games is noticably more difficult
Anyway
It’ll be coming to Steam and the MAS
I wonder how the M1 will fair.
Got Resident Evil 4 running at around 40fps
hi pl because making games for mac sucks, imdad
making games for mac is much better than it was 20 years ago, but it's still not good, and basically having to dedicate a staff member or a whole team to mac conversion / compatibility is something that not every studio wants to do or can afford, especially smaller studios
Most triple a companies can do but aren’t willing because they have to deal with Apple’s MAS, and most Mac users don’t use Steam because Steam is a PoS on Mac because Valve does the bare minimum to update the client.
Even if Apple were to support Vulkan and stick with x86_64, it wouldn’t change anything. Devs would still refuse because they’d need a Mac. Even if Xcode was on Windows, they’d still need to install macOS to test the game. And even if that was all said n done, they’d still would have allocate resources to a platform they rather not support because market share.
Its always a lose situation.
So at this point I just don’t even listen to people who say “its harder”. It basically is a ‘you either do or you don’t’ type of situation.
Literally Dwarf Fortress devs ceased Mac development because of the architecture change, even though they kept teasing the port when they said SDL was updated.
(And market share once more)
yeah, Mac as a platform is just too hostile to cross-platform software development for it to make sense to all but the largest studios
The thing is that Windows is also just as hostile, but because it has the most market share in the world (monopoly basically), it makes sense to develop for it.
I mean, why aren’t more devs using the almighty Vulkan?
ok sure at some point it becomes a semantics game about what these words mean
Because DirectX just works fine and penguin nerds can just do ten layers of translation.
but since Mac is a minority and it takes a lot of additional effort it's always going to be a tough sell to any real world project that could be spending that effort on other stuff instaed
Any game for any platform takes effort, its just which one takes the least amount of effort and makes the most money.
(whether Linux is "a lot of effort" depends on what we count as linux support, but WINE and Proton and so on make it reasonable to say you typically get Linux for free)
Well yeah because Linux users gave up expecting native ports.
So might as well shove 50 layers of translation.
the real lesson is that expecting every developer of every program to do native ports just doesn't scale (even when they do it's often not quite the same or not fully up to date or whatever); either the platform becomes more interoperable, or it gets left behind by the industry

oh so you're tracking my skill issues... thannnnnks
