As long as we have a choice since I only want the singleplayer
“Single Player is a linear story experience, and we made the online portion open world”

Hang on what
Good
Deviant, I will bonk you in the future myself if even that first thing ends up being the case lol
And now I know who to blame and bonk if it becomes reality lol
I may not play gta 6 if it is just a linear story experience with no open world
At that point I would consider cyberpunk a vastly better game
Well, we all know it's gonna be on console first, so hopefully everyone has a PS5 or an Xbox Series X/S by then
Ready here
Probably will get it on day 1
If it looks good of course
I enjoyed GTA V a lot, the online portion not so much but honestly I play for the single player.
I'm not getting a console
Don’t worry, I’ll be beta testing the game for you.
I hate how common day one patches are these days.
I dare you to finish the game without the day 1 patch
I can't lie I sorta want to try that in cyberpunk
You know I do have that ability right?
I have bought and beaten games on the first day.
(Depends if I have the time to play tho)
Install the game, then disconnect internet. No need for any updates.
I played gta 5 with no patches or updates on ps3. I never connected my ps3 to the internet.
Had to do the same with my 360 (not gta v, but other games)
In fact I had a VERY CURSED NETWORK SETUP.
I honestly want to play gta 6 on my handheld when it comes to pc. I want to be the first person to play gta 6 at a public park.
Because Microsoft wanted to upcharge you for the wifi module, I discovered that if you plugged the ethernet cable onto a laptop, then bridged lan and wifi module together plus allowing sharing internet… You can effectively create a hotspot wifi module for free.
I see
So effectively I played Halo 3 online from a laptop internet wifi module.
I saved myself like $100 bucks.
I think?
Pretty cool honestly
I remember the walking dead season 2 had a game breaking bug on ps3 on day one patch. You basically had to play through the whole game in one go or else your save file was fucked and wouldn't load.
And I never finished the game because of it
That to me was the moment day one patches became essential... Right before ps4 came out. It felt like from that moment onwards, games came out unfinished. And it has only gotten worse since
Crunch culture is hell.
Seriously though I gotta play cyberbug 2077 on day one patch someday
I'll find a pirated version of it somewhere
Doesn’t GOG provide all versions?
I already bought it on steam
oh I see
I don't wanna pay $80 again
I never bought it lol
Tried a “demo” first and besides my PC nearly collapsing, I didn’t vibe with it.
Fair. The game is really hard hitting at times.
Creating this future with a lot of dystopia in a way, I think
Not really, it was more about the atmosphere. It was so edgy that it hurt, I was expecting something with some edge but not super hardcore edgy.
Yeah I had issues with that at first as well
I don't really remember it being edgy
Like the ads are so annoying, no flying cars unless its a scripted sequence, augmentations are useless except the hacking ability. (Ironically feelin like Watch Dogs 2)
But this is the 1.0 ver
I have absolute no idea what has changed.
The edgy aspect of industrial would be fine if it was one area, but its everywhere.
Ads are still annoying. I see the one with the butt in the dude's face everywhere.
Eugh
Out of my apartment window I see it!
I get what they were going for, but its ridiculous.
I mean i like the idea of all the ads being everywhere for this future world but they could be much less 18+ all the time
Also kinda sad there was no mcdonalds I could run pass by with a taxi flying cab, woulda been fun to scare some cops at the drive-thru. (lol)
And more realistic
I do finding hacking cool but I also do like watch dogs
And flying vehicles... I mean, you will see flying heavy vehicles around the place but you can't do anything to them normally
Cars aren't even electric
Also the in game flash backs to 2020 don't feel like 2020. They still feel like 2077.
Smart person with Misty profile pic. Smart Misty lol
The car design is like... Cars based on classic cars that look and sound cool. Or cheese slices.
I ain't even gonna steal those cheese wheel slice looking cars
I mean there is a certain cool aspect to it.
But it woulda been more cooler if they could fly lol.
And maybe customize them?
Upgrade their engines, add weapon systems, shield generators, evasive systems…
That would be cool, but also, so far in my playthrough cars haven't been a big deal besides going places.
Maybe you shoot from a car in a mission
You can upgrade character stats to increase vehicle health though
Imagine how much worse the game would run with that
Not really
There are many ways to optimize.
Sure it would take some time, but its doable now.
They sure as fuck have not optimized
lol
It performs so bad for how the game looks. I am playing on amd integrated graphics to be fair, but still..
what integrated gpu?
Though to be fair I set it so I can play in 15W mode

Also OBS.
Its a shame Starfield launched in this abysmal state honestly, woulda waited two more years.
Well, when it arrives on PS5 I’ll probably get it. Had a lot of fun, reminds me of Skyrim in some ways. Main quest lame until halfway point, side quests best.
I gotta try starfield, I generally love bethesda games
Its not bad but expect Skyrim in Space
Like literally
Its just more Bethesda.
That is what I expected, and was satisfied.
I think some games haven't been marked as verified due to prolonged performance dips below 30 FPS, even at lowest settings
https://steamdb.info/app/1649240/ is marked as Unsupported on Deck for instance, likely for this reason – it's just "too big for Steam Deck"™
Cool
I think I have had enough of amd frame gen... It is cool but it is not free fps. It makes the game feel worse just to look a bit smoother.
Next time I play I'm just gonna use the steam deck preset and a 30 fps cap
Even when I use it to go from 60 fps to 120 fps.. The added latency makes it feel worse then just 60 fps
Also omg digital foundry just released a video about doing ray tracing on the steam deck

Pf yes. I have gotten 80 fps on my rog ally with ray tracing using low settings. It is surprisingly good if you keep things reasonable.
I thought this said Seinfeld May Update
I have been reading up what people say about amd frame gen online and so many people are praising it. So many people say it is basically free fps. But I just can't help but feel like it really isn't free performance. Games look smoother but feel worse. I have played games at a solid 30 fps that have felt way better then 100 fps reached with frame gen.

Vanguard anti-cheat is telling people to delete System32 if they want to play.

This is probably going to absolutely tank this game in the coming weeks I presume
"Here's everything you need to know!"
doesn't tell you that it wants you to delete crucial files from your computer
ks.sys is a Windows core file that manages video capture and the associated drivers
good job
Glad I got a couple more games in a little while ago before the implementation of this, every once in a while I'd hop back into League but now I'm never coming back, thanks Riot for curing my addiction
ks is Kernel Streaming
it's responsible for handling multimedia-related tasks, such as audio and video streaming, capturing, and processing and allows applications to communicate with multimedia devices
so it doesn't like one of the drivers literally responsible for audio and video playback on your computer
I just hope they don't plan to implement this into other games like Runeterra or Project L
oh you know they'll want to implement it for Project L. They put it in League right? so they'll definitely put it in 2XKO
lol cant have people doing anything media related with a game right. Guess its got to go
If they plan on putting it on Project L it's going to kill that game before it even gets a chance to take off, for now I think they probably aren't planning to and are not planning to add it to Runeterra either mostly because that game's PvP got fucked and they're focusing more on single player content
It would suck because I'm a huge League nerd I just hate the game so the fighting game was great news for me but if they actually end up adding it to that then I'm probably never getting it
yeah, it would suck, and people were hoping before VALORANT came out that RIOT would walk back the Always on Anti Cheat. they did it anyway, and the game sold like gangbusters thanks to their marketing
people just don't mind the inconvenience or security risk if it means they can play
i like how what used to be called a rootkit is now called anti-cheat instead as it sounds better.
shrug it's both right? The old anti-viruses did it too
"Anti Virus" but actually a root kit too
Yeah it's always been both
A rootkit is any sort of software that gives root or kernel access, but usually malware
Unfortunately this seems like one of those things were regardless of whether or not the playerbase hates it and drops significantly they probably will not back out of it
I'm still hoping people will stop playing not only so they can realize people hate this but also for the safety of their computers too
So what I'm getting from this is that a new League Of Legends anti cheat can literallly delete your PC's vital files?
It's blocking it from running but won't delete it
If you ever used daemon tools, that was an example of a benign rootkit
It used kernel access to bypass DRM
No, the anti cheat Riot is implementing into League is the same they have in Valorant which grants it kernel level access to your computer which a lot of people understandably don't feel comfortable with
fighting games are a genre where it's relatively hard to cheat, and the biggest way of cheating (macros/input injection) is also one of the hardest to detect for anticheat software
but I still expect Riot to pursue Vanguard for 2XKO because of marketing reasons, if anything
That's what I'm fearing, it feels like the type of thing where they'd think ''well we have to put this on all of our games now!'' just because, even though everyone hates it (and people argue doesn't really significantly affects cheaters)
Yeah it's up there like 7 hours ago; reminder that T2 said they have no layoff plan like, last month
can you play Minecraft on Steam Deck even though it's not on Steam

RDR2 moment
REALLY good
i have RDR1 on my Switch but i havent played it yet
i havent played rdr1 but id feel pretty confident in assuming rdr2 is MUCH better considering the release date difference
RDR1 was 2010 and RDR2 was 2018 right ?
mhm
Yes it's very good
Rockstar takes a while to make games it seems but considering how detailed they are i feel like that's not a bad thing
Best rockstar game, probably
absolutely
I agree too
Until they make manhunt 3
i never had a game that instantly caught me like rdr2 did, ever since i started it instantly hit me as "THIS is it,best shit ever" and it consistently kept that feeling going, even until now(im lik 40% through the story)
well cool i'll add RDR2 to my Steam wishlist
I was completely happy through my entire playthrough
apart from maybe minor nitpicks i dont think i even have much bad to say about it
does Elden Ring require constant internet connection or can it be played offline too

NEED

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since this game came out
I played it on its original release

does a nintendo micro sd card work on steam deck
What is actually happening with Ally with SD cards?
It should.
cool
You just need to format it obviously, but it should be plug n play.
The SD card reader is right next to the exhaust vent, and internally basically right next to the heat sink.
And I have had the cpu/gpu get above 90 degrees on mine, meaning that the SD card reader is most likely also getting to that temperature
One fix I have seen is to put a thin hit shield between the SD card reader and the heat sink, though it isn't proven to be a permanent fix
So yeah it is just overheating SD cards, and the SD card reader also breaks from it
Not even 1cm between the sd card and the air vent
It also makes your headphone wire super hot when you have headphones connected
At least the charging cable is out of the way of the air vent
I don’t understand how they missed this.
And it can't just be on the other side of the device because there are 2 air vents, hot air is blowing out either side of the device
Omfg discord stop sending my message when I'm not finished
Basically I see it as a first gen device, Asus is a laptop maker and hasn't made a device like this before. Stuffing a powerful x86 cpu and gpu into a tiny tablet is pretty insane, and dealing with heat is an issue. It's part of why the steam deck is limited to 15W, but this thing will boost up to 50W on the cpu and gpu when plugged in.
It's not like a tablet where not much heat is really made, there can be tons of heat being made.
First gen devices often tend to have some kind of issue
I mean, Steam Deck had issues at launch but not a design issue.
Like an entire design hardware issue is not good.
Yeah but that device also doesn't make anywhere near as much heat
That still shouldn’t be an excuse, ASUS clearly needed to do testing but had to rush.
Funny enough if you push the thing in turbo mode for a while, the fans become very loud. It just sounds like a gaming laptop in your hands.
Yeah that is true though
Oh so the ASUS ROG laptop that I have now?
Its so bad.
I’m glad its an older device because god forbid its a newer nvidia gpu.
I mean sure it isn't bad, you can easily turn the volume up above it, but it is just crazy having a device in your hands making all this fan noise.
Oh wait I thought you said it isn't bad for some reason
Yeah
Like just stuffing all that power into a handheld makes so much heat
Ehh no worries
And this thing only uses AMD integrated graphics, imagine if it had a dedicated gpu
But yeah to me the SD card issue doesn't matter too much, I knew of it when buying the device and I was ok with that. I never planned on putting in an SD card, since I don't want to use slow storage speed for my games.
If anything I want to upgrade the internal storage to something faster even, maybe a 4tb drive
I think it is best to think of this thing as something different to the steam deck. Steam deck feels more like a console that runs PC games, this thing is just a literal PC in a small form factor with controllers. It's just a laptop inside a tablet with controllers on it.
I'm glad I don't play on console. I can't imagine having to play through Cyberpunk with my family watching me the whole time.
I love this game's AI cars
The AI became so advanced that they are now depressed living as a car
Imagine a real car stopping you in the middle of the road because they can't handle your speed
Fuck everything negative I said about this game, I love this
I mean I use remote play on my ps5 whenever anyone wants to use the tv.
Pretty low latency too since 5ghz wifi & local.

Also. Kinda expected this given the dev time https://www.ign.com/articles/shadow-of-the-erdtree-the-first-and-last-elden-ring-dlc-fromsoftware-boss-hidetaka-miyazaki-confirms
the first iteration of a game tends to do that quite often, experimental ideas that are removed for various reasons
despite being considered a rushed game, Midtown Madness 1 has a lot of stuff that its sequel did not have, despite using the same engine
for instance, cops won't pursue you if you respect traffic laws in MM1, but they will always pursue you in MM2
(they also have like 60 unique voice lines if they bust you in MM1, and not in MM2)
I know that, DS1 in particular just had a bunch of really cool and unique obscure mechanics especially anything related to online play that never really got fully explored or improved upon later on and it sucks
The one that particular video talks about is a really cool mechanic that would've been amazing to have on Elden Ring rather than the system we currently have

You can even shuffle movement abilities so you can't do them until you find them

I don’t see a brick.
“If you are on Win 11, you must have UEFI and TPM2.0 both enabled in BIOS or ur PC won't load. “
Well yes
You need those for Windows 11 to even install.
??????
If folks are getting their “computers bricked” by anticheat software that expects TPM 2.0 & UEFI Secure Boot, all I’m gonna say is that you did this to yourself if your computer does not meet said requirements.
Except that the anticheat also wants you to delete crucial files needed to run your computer in order to run the game with it on.
It wants you to delete System32
Vanguard anti-cheat is telling people to delete System32 if they want to play.

I think it is saying that the anticheat is not "not loading game" but "not booting the pc"
Oh its a video camera driver.
Honestly the post doesn’t even clarify at all, it just makes a claim and hopes you assume its the truth without showing what exactly is happening.
It seems the person has long uninstalled the game and was delivering a news about something that happened to other people, I'm also a little bit doubtful but idk
I can see it happening
True or not it is quite visibly clear that the "anticheat" is def a whole lot of mess
You can’t please anyone.
Option 1: Have invasive anticheat, cheating is now rare but gamers are angry on how hostile it is.
Option 2: Have no invasive anticheat but gamers will complain on how ridden it is full of hackers.
Option 3: Microsoft makes a system wide anticheat solution.
oh jfc i didnt know i can reach these over fkin wifi of all things
invasive anti cheat is better any day of the week, look at entire CS series as enough proof
I honestly don't see how this is "bricking" people's computers
unless someone goes into their mobo settings and switches the boot mode from Legacy BIOS to UEFI, which will make your windows install unbootable
like, this image just doesn't even make sense
Yeah I am also a bit doubtful about this, no one actually uploaded a solid proof that their pc was bricked
But Vanguard is also infamous for not being a great product, so riot isn't also doing a great job there
I mean riot never does a great job
what issues did vanguard have? its been a relatively painless experience apart from max a couple times it bugged on me which was easily fixable
Being invasive is one aspect but if sonething is invasive and often broken then obviously people will be very unhappy
also
i hate to be that guy
but
UEFI and TPM 2.0 have been requirements of Windows 11 since launch in Oct 2021... people have had years to plan for this...
Hypervisors have also had TPM passthrough for years. This will not impact a VM if setup to take advantage of the TPM.
At least I think they did improve Vanguard after they first released it
If you're using tricks and bypasses to run your OS in an unsupported manner that doesn't actually meet the requirements, you have to expect that something may, at some point, go wrong
The problem is that Microsoft cowardly added flags that allow you to install Windows 11 without UEFI & TPM.
So what I think its happening is that when Vanguard is installed on a machine that is not meant to run Windows 11, the anticheat system and the os freak out.
I mean assuming the statement is true, a program bricking the computer instead of printing error sounds a bit too far
Yeah it seems that is likely what people are claiming
Also apparently Vanguard runs even when the game isn't being played?
Huh
Not surprised.
I've only ever bricked a motherboard once
and it was via linux
because i overwrite the EFI system partition just to see what would happen
(it was a motherboard that was being scrapped anyways)
yep
you can shut it down, but then youll have to restart the pc the next time you wanna launch the game
An anticheat with kernel access that always runs whether or not you are playing the game
That is well indeed something
Its not just kernel
It can in theory check everything that your computer is doing.
Its basically ‘legal spyware’.
Well yeah it can in theory be anything riot wants it to be
I think then it should not be played maybe, security is important
that's all kernel level anticheat
Yep
Vangaurd, Easy AC, all of them
its the only fucking game thats playable cheating wise
Yes but this one runs constantly
and you have a choice to make it not
(They still run even if you ‘close them’, check Windows services)
I am against practices like this
(like every single app ever)
Well there isn’t any solution.
Eehhh, not quite.
Uninstall
Overall I am not against having a strong anticheat, but I have to admit that it is hard to trust Riot in development sense
we unfortunately live in a time of ring0 AC being necessary, and it's not going to go away
its a trade off,you choose wether you want competitive integrity or security if you care to THAT degree about it
I know but their data is at risk
Running Windows 11 is a data risk by itself.

Especially since Riot had an issue with their actual competitive esports scene
It is probably better to have a strong workjng one rather than a weak one that barely works
So I am not really against the concept of Vanguard itself
I've been using Win11 on my main pc for over a year and not had a single problem. Win11 is perfectly fine and usable.
but people don't want it because "omg change" and all the false misinformation about it
This is much more complicated than I thought a minute ago
I'm just worried about its execution
To note, I uninstalled League a while ago
Well my computer isn't even Win11 eligible thus stuck in Win10 so I would have been fine anyway
I have Windows 11 on a laptop and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to disable Copilot shit, widget shit, Microsoft garbage extra services, and hundreds of ‘privacy features’.
Edge is hostile.
Like trying to install a browser gets you popups begging you not to.
winget install chrome
I've never once seen any Copilot crap pop up on my PC
whether that's because I'm on 11 Pro, i don't know
but i ain't seen it
What's a copilot?
This is a local account btw
I don’t want to pull out my laptop and screenshot all the popups.

I have Windows 10
Windows 10 is rough but manageable.
You should stick to it until its deprecation day.
At that point, you’re on your own.
Tbh I prefer 11 to 10
I barely get any ads
although ive only had my pc for like 3 months
Is my experience as well.
I use PC only a little, I play on Xbox and use phone
When is that, again?
2025 or 2026?
Well...looks like I may have to upgrade at some point. I just hope that by that point Microsoft will have gotten their shit together and stop all the ads and such.
How well does everything transfer over if you upgrade?
Like, will it keep the same setup and settings, mostly? Or do you have to redo everything?
And redownload all Steam games and such?
(Internet bookmarks too)
I guess I have a deadline to change my pc
What happens if someone doesn't change? Will not be protected from viruses?
You can bypass them, actually
It's true that it's a requirement of Windows 11, but you can make a modified installation that doesn't require it, which I might be forced to do if my copy of Windows 10 goes out of support before I can afford a new computer
No, they'll be protected from some viruses, but newer malware that attacks the system in such a way that an update to the operating system is required will not be stopped
What about my concerns above? @gaunt marten
I got a race car in cyberpunk. Now I can drive through night city at 160mph. I think I even reached 170.
It should transfer over fine. It'll keep a lot of things but you might have to move your steam games to another drive than the one you have windows on
Keep in mind I am still stuck with Windows 10 so I don't have personal experience
I think the point of the statement is what Lunar said; that it is natural for something to break if you bypass the actual requirement
It's kind of really bad regardless of how natural it is
I agree that the whole thing sounds very bad if the claims are true
I let my little sister play cyberpunk a little. Drive around in the race car
Honestly, when I connect my rog ally to the tv and play with an xbox controller it is easy to forget that I'm not just playing on a console
I'm in the same boat as Lunar, I've been on Win 11 for ages and mostly forget I am because I've experienced zero of the issues described above
it's just the reality of complex, widely used software that some portion of users will have wildly different experiences from the norm for whatever reason, no matter how much effort is put into making it as solid as possible
Windows 11 has been fine for me. A few issues but nothing I don't also have issues with in windows 10.
rn the only problem I have with Win11 is that I have to buy a new computer
Yeah that is an issue. I don't use any devices which still have that issue now, but my desktop did have that issue.
Essentially making older computers obsolete when they don't need to be
well, "need" is relative; the TPM thing was gonna have to become a requirement sooner or later
I only have win11 now because I happened to get a new computer after it had become the default
Yeah. TPMs are important in some way I am sure.
Hardly
My desktop doesn't even reach the cpu requirement only having a 4770
I believe the short version is TPMs (Trusted Platform Modules) provide some hardware-level cryptographic stuff that makes it possible for your computer to prove it is who it says it is, in a way no one else can spoof
Does anything exploit that though?
that's always a hard question to answer with foundational technology upgrades like this, where many apps can't safely rely on it until it's universal enough that they can drop support for devices too old to have it
I see
iiuc the ideal is that long-term this leads to a lot less of users needing to manually type in passwords and second-factor authorization codes and whatnot
but I don't know all the details myself
I don't know if I want that. What if it isn't me who is accessing a device. And then something lets you log in just because it is the same device.
Don't let other people use your device
It isn't as simple as that. What if the device gets stolen?
Then your full drive encryption will ensure they can't use the device without wiping it first
Generally speaking, it is more secure rather than less secure to have TPM on
Because in most attacks the real vulnerable element is the user
Makes sense I guess
also, lots of things already have options to force log out automatically or require re-entering your password more often than might be the default
like all those sites which have a "remember this device (don't use on shared computers)" checkbox
when we talk about "don't need to enter passwords" as a good thing, we're talking about the cases where the service can talk to your device directly and achieve the same security as before through more modern authentication technologies like passkeys, with less involvement of the vulnerable user
for example, my phone is set to always require touch id to unlock, so no one else can simply swipe it and use my stuff
Omg this guy played so accurately
this is funny
I go to look up the manor lords wiki and find the developer has their own wiki
I click 'random article' and it turns out the shuffle includes all the articles, in all languages
so I got polish
lol
Apparently steamdb now has a review chart section
Frankly, they get what they get. What an absurd maneuver.
They could not make the game cross compatible with sony players

I don't think I have gotten one of those either in either 4 or 76.
rip game I suppose
You don't change the deal on players after the game is launched and ask them to do something extra to access the game they already paid money for
Doubt it will kill the game but a lot of goodwill for the company is now gone because of this
ihavealteredthedeal.gif
Its a license and game as a service, therefore you will deal with game adjustments… including login requirements.
But I agree regardless. This shoulda been optional but I assume it was some sort of agreement.
Arrowhead ceo basically said himself in their discord it was a sony decision. not theirs
And then made a post on his twitter saying essentially “heres psn support. go to them if you wanna complain or have questions”

Yep, they are legally obligated to comply.
So do complain to Sony instead.
Devs had an agreement deal with Sony, then Sony demanded a change after game release. Devs tried to push back/convince… it failed… hence now.
That is how it usually goes.
It's 100% Sony's fault
lmfao it is not
It is Sony's fault but it's also Arrowhead's fault for striking the deal in the first place.
Ah so just make game
They probably needed the money Flitter.
Its just how things are.
Yeah, and they now need to deal with the consequences
Ah so damned if you do, damned if you don’t?
Don't partner with sony.
You're not damned if you don't make a game.
Partner with Microsoft.
What the fuck is wrong with you
Please be polite when voicing disagreement.
Change your tone first
What's wrong with my tone? Don't ping me please.
"Yeah, and they now need to deal with the consequences" That's an asshole tone
What Flitter said is straight to the point. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
What's the problem with it?
They did something bad, and they have to deal with the consequences of that action.
How is that rude?
Sony consistently has strange and baffling decisions
It's very unfortunate for the players
What if they get doxxed dumbass ?
That was uncalled for.
The consequences being bad reviews and people not buying.
Have you seen the internet now ?
im sorry, why are we bringing up doxxing?
The consequences of their actions is a mass exodus of a loyal fanbase and review bombs.
No idea where doxxing came from
Yeah, doxxing is not an appropriate consequence.
They do need to deal with the consequences, which are people not buying their game, and people who did buy it seeking refunds or giving bad reviews.
If people are compliant about this stuff and say, "Well that's just how it is", everyone loses.
I think the doxxing bring up is due to the potential of some players reacting so negatively…. They lose their marbles by doing such thing.
But you can make insane logic leaps like that with anything
Yep.
Regardless, this will be the consequence, and it will be a permanent one.
Players can no longer trust the studio due to a ‘secrit’ agreement with Sony.
Sony likes to shoot themselves in the foot
Helldivers had a good run though. Who's up for some Puppet Master PvP (Puppet vs Puppet)?
eugh
It's kind of impressive honestly how woefully incompetent they are
It is how it is.
At least for this situation.
I guess I won’t buy Helldivers now that people gonna stop playing it.
Can’t wait for the “inspired by Helldivers” and/or “helldiver-like” genre to spawn lol.
I'd give it some time and see what happens. They might undo the decision, but trust is a hard thing to get back.
the Steam Deck is able to be played offline right ?
idk !
Outside of updates, it shouldn't need a connection outside the 30-day window that steam has already for desktop.
You need an Internet connection for games that demand an Internet connection, but the device is just a computer
oh ok cool
Does Steam have a 30-day window?
I was under the impression you can just go offline indefinitely without a problem
Gaming industry's got her looking over her shoulder
I'd have to check. I do know that there has to be a check every now and then, but that's more for people away for long periods of time (like deployments).
There are checks if you go offline without first putting it into offline mode
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0E18-319B-E34B-B2C8 Looks like it changed a little since I last looked, but good to know.
https://old.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/xt3xec/steam_offline_mode_has_no_time_limit_an/ So technically forever if you properly set it up first.
ok sick
i was just browsing the subreddit and one of the top posts of all time was someone complaining about this
I could have sworn it was true at some point in the distant past though.
A lot of games do require an online connection
And Steam doesn't always tell you which games do or don't require an online connection
It also doesn't tell you which games have DRM or not. A lot of games with no DRM can be launched even without a steam account

I feel like the whole Helldivers situation is because of Sony. The devs probably had nothing to do with that. With enough backlash though, it'll probably get reversed. Not to mention Sony is practically contradicting their own TOS

It is definitely because of Sony.

reminds me how PunkBuster allowed server admins (of community-hosted servers) to request a screenshot of your game at any time, without you being informed of it

Ah, welp
Guess that's it for Helldivers
At least I did my part
Many thanks for the continued support
This is Sony's fault, not the game devs. This has corporate greed written all over it.
They did sign the contract
Helldivers 2 has officially dropped to "Mixed"
It's unfortunate, but that's the reality of AAA publishing
I do love this, though:
Technically, the game has always had the notification on steam that there's a third party (sony) account creation needed. But during the massive popularity when it first launched, they suspended that need for an account in order to resolve some issues. So all the crying about "lying" is not accurate. (I don't disagree with them, fuck needing an extra account, but accuracy is paramount)
Yeah
And most of the level-headed players are coming to grips with that. Ultimately, this will be the headlines for a couple weeks, and then the players will jump back on. A few will be lost, but not enough to kill the game.
And then newer players who have no idea about the controversy will be putting up positive reviews again
I don't know about that
For all their corporate greed, Sony knows exactly what they're doing.
The PSN account thing is needed because that's how Sony does the community management - banning the toxic players etc etc, so I can see why they "need" it
RIP
Sony's probably not gonna change it, but that's not guaranteed. Given that it's their biggest game release this year, and the massive pushback might make them give an exception, but doubtful
Apparently you can bypass the list by making a US account, picking a random home address by scrolling down on Google maps, and making a new email account.
this sounds about right tbh
That can put the account at risk, as changing the region compared to where you're at can get the account actioned from what i've read
I don't have the game but I have a psn account for other stuff. Also just reporting on what i've seen 🙂
Regardless of bypasses I think it's perfectly reasonable for customers to say "no, I don't want to make an account to be able to play" especially after we haven't had to make one since launch
I know as soon as this becomes enforced and you're required one to even get into the game I'm probably done playing, unfortunately
I wouldn't want to play either. It kills the mood, and it also kills the desire to play because once you're under a corporate thumb, they can easily choose to just take away your game permanently.
For some games this is impossible to avoid so you just grit your teeth and bear it, but for games like Helldivers, where you were able to play and have fun without any corporate shenanigans ruining things, now that freedom has been taken away.
I'd rather avoid the game entirely in many situations than buy the game and play
Just feels to me that Sony have lost their marbles really ever since PlayStation’s HQ moved from Japan to California. I mean name a major release from one of Sony’s internal studios (that they have left after closing or downsizing a significant number the past few years) that is likely coming out in the next 2 years let alone this year. Even when they do seem to be on to winners sales wise with third party devs like with Helldivers 2 or Stellar Blade they seem to be doing everything in their power to shoot themselves in the foot. How long before Sony considers selling off the PlayStation division off entirely?
Sounds like the venture capitalist bros have taken over and are doing the usual decisions that have no understanding of the industry/the fans
Trouble is Western capitalists only care about the numbers going up at an ever increasingly rapid rate. Trouble is the industry is in a period of mild decline due to people having less disposable income, aftereffects of COVID and hardware like the Switch being close to end of life. Trouble is the “remedy” here seems to be to lose the taken thou have and just shut up shop or lower the amount of games you have coming. How does that end a downward spiral though?
what is Stellar Blade
Sony published action title by Korean studio Shift Up
A recently released action rpg with a main character with "assets"~
A character modelled after a real Korean model I might add though.
“How dare our escapist media have the ability to play as someone sexy!” - most Western “games journalists” nowadays
Yeah the whole thing with that was sony forced censorship changes last minute when their whole marketing promised they wouldn’t
Yep, and ultimately I don’t particularly care about how good or bad a protagonist looks or seems to look I care more about companies not lying to their customers
Or hiding or not making things clearer in the case of Helldivers I guess
all this "censorship" just looks like they put a shirt on the main character
I mean they censored some costumes and yet more revealing ones weren’t touched so yeah I see it as a storm in a teacup overall but they said that no censorship would happen at all before launch and then changes are shown to be made close to launch it was always going to cause a commotion
Just with this industry how hard is it to be actually straight with your customers or potential customers? Stop lying to your audience and that will be a big step on having us actually trust anything you say about your products
If it tells you hows stupid the whole stellar blade thing is. Weve had people commit federal crimes over it

The censorship itself isn't all that bad. The protagonist is still one of the more, uh, revealing ones in gaming. The main issue is that they lied about not censoring stuff.
(Just to clarify, I have no interest in Stellar Blade or the protagonist in question.)
They barely censored it from what ive seen
people are being way too pissy about it
I was interested in the game but it wasn’t the design of the protagonist that was an issue to me (in fact it was a reason I was interested at all) but after trying the demo it just didn’t play as well as I hoped it would.
The whole thing was blown up out of proportion
gamers overreacting ???? this has never happened before
Fr
That and games journalists
Yeah
Tbh i liked the gameplay in the demo
it's a bit like complaining Doom has been censored because some player gibbing animations ended up being unused
Trouble is with these “controversies” in gaming is it’s usually a relatively small number making all the noise and then these “games news” sites reporting on it for clicks causing a feedback loop of toxicity
^ this
Though that’s been a problem since the advent of social media in all things not just gaming
Lmoa
I remember when SNOY was censoring those ninja games
The ones where outfits rip off and fly off
And it was literally the only version to be censored
Sony's gonna lose money over this. What do big corporations care about more than anything? If they wanna keep making bank, then they'll change it back, if not, then well, it's time for another game to step in and take over the landscape for a while. I still feel bad for the devs though
Pfft, no they wont
I honestly hate to say it but SNOY is really losing their relevancy as a console developer
They’ll lose some money, but majority of the user base is consoles still.
Like the PS5 has how many exclusive games? Like 4?
I mean I have a PS5.
Its better than an Xbox for sure.
Saw an entire family return their Xbox Series X because nobody liked it, but I honestly assume it was probably because Microsoft is porting their games to Playstation.
The Xbox brand is just sad and confusing now
They had solid gold in the 360 era and then started to erode it away
I guess that gold was just iron pyrite, rusting away
Fucked up to me that Nintendo of all companies has remained consistently good the past decade and it's all because they just actually keep making games and their first party games are consistently high quality and good, at the very least on a technical level, and even their most 'mid' games are generally really fun anyways
regardless of the ocassional hit the other two manage to make some times it feels like they've had nothing but issues all the time in comparison
Xbox live gold
I'm getting mixed messages about Nintendo here
I did say ''fucked up to me that Nintendo of all companies'' for a reason
If you're confused: they make video games and video game consoles
It's fucked up that, in comparison to the other two, Nintendo has remained consistently good only because they keep making games like normal and they're all consistently good and high quality, not because they're a good company
I thought they made playing cards
That's a common misconception
they make movies these days
lotta misinformation out there, stay safe
wahoo
Idk it makes sense to me that a company that puts out desirable, quality products would be successful
Most of the shitty shit Nintendo does doesn't even register on the radar to most of their consumers
That's exactly what I'm referring to
The people like you and I that care about that sort of thing unfortunately are a minority
So it's unlikely our protests will ever make any meaningful difference with Nintendos behavior
They still need slapped upside the head tho
Unless the switch 2 is a flop i doubt much will change
And that will probably only happen if nintendo does something astronomically stupid like make it always require an internet connection
If they don't call it the Super Switch I'll be so angry
If they call it a Switch anything it needs to be clear what it is

This dude definitely ain't wrong in putting it this way
But doesn't this lock people in certain regions out of the game?
Yes
''It's okay because other people do it'' is not the be all end all argument you may think it is
That was one of the big sticking points I heard, and if that's indeed the case, that is a very tonedeaf response
It definitely feels tonedeaf
Yeah. Arrowhead is trying to get a response from sony about those particular regions
That said, complaining about it on Discord isn't exactly the way to go either, so he's not wrong about that part.
He also knows that they have limited ability compared to the people that write their paychecks, which is kinda sad when you look at it that way
The people in this case being Sony. They can't stop what their bosses did
In the end, it's all a means of Sony showing up to shareholder meetings with higher user numbers, thus earning them billions more dollars.
Like I said. Worse comes to worse, another game is gonna rise up and take over in the way that Helldivers 2 did. Manor Lords anyone? Lol
It's not like the first or even the fourteenth time I refused to buy a game I had interest in
imagine buying games
More of them will come around worth buying, and more of them will come around that absolutely take over the industry for a while. That's at least one thing we know can still happen. Most of them thankfully being indie titles
Your game buying habits are well known here. If it isn't like 3-4 years after release and 15$ or less, you don't buy it, so you're not exactly the target audience :p
Basically.
Oh man that's a black knight
You should learn how to parry them. It feels so good when you get how to do it
There's a part of the game later where you can practice that a lot without dying
Make him fall off a ledge
no i respawned at the bonfire and fell of a ledge right after
i didn't even make it back to the bad guy lol
If it makes you feel any better, even after multiple playthroughs and dozens and dozens of hours into the game, I would still fall off edges like a moron on my way to get my bloodstain back
Agreed
this game is fun but hard
I never even got passed the undead burg in DS1
losing tons of souls sometimes is just part of the game
i wish i had a ranged attack that didn't take 12 gazillion years to charge up
hey be greatful you have one at all
I still need to platinum elden ring
yeah i guess
i think i just did a successful parry and riposte
cause it played. a special animation
yeah
Pyromancer is pretty good for beginners and just a good starting class all around but magic is also really good for beginners too if you're willing to go for that
The biggest perk of pyromancy is that you don't have to invest any stats into it
it is extremely satisfying rolling into barrels and tables and shit and it just crumbling beneath me
You can just like. start as pyromancer, maybe find a bigger sword and larger shield, invest in a bunch of physical stats and essentially just be a warrior that can also throw a few fireball, vs starting as a warrior and having to find the pyromancy flame somewhere in the game as a new player in order to take advantage of that
That's essentially what I would do in my runs, it wasn't until my very last character where I aimed for a full DEX build where I didn't do pyromancy at all
Also the starting hatchet for the pyro is actually a very good weapon too
just a great start all around
do i need to level up my dexterity to use this short sword
Ok so, time to teach UI
there's a minimum requirement you have to be able to use weapons and then there's a ''recommended'' level where you want to keep your stats at if you want to be able to use a weapon fully, if you barely have the requirements to use a weapon you can use it two handed but not one handed
You can still use weapons if you don't meet the stat requirement but they will do barely any damage and I think costs more stamina and is just overall way less efficient
when you look at a weapon
Red is the required stats you need to use it effectively, in order Str, Dex, Int and Faith i believe
Green is the scaling, from D to S how much a particular stat adds to the weapon damage when you swing it, the scaling goes up as you upgrade a weapon
Blue is special effects, for example bleed and poison, a weapon applies when it hits the enemy
Yes it's a bit much to keep track of at first so I would recommend just going with whatever weapons you find and sticking to what you like for now, once you get the gist of it is when you can start to maybe look into specific weapons and store all your materials and cash for upgrading that weapon to the max
some weapons may have lower base stats but scale better which makes them worth upgrading more than a weapon who might have bigger base stats but scales worse
but for now just stick with what you find and what you enjoy more
On the other hand, maybe you don't plan to invest a bunch in a stat, so in that case using a weapon that doesn't scale much but has high base damage would be better than using one with a ton of scaling
I will recommend, as a general tip, that you start thinking now about where you wanna take your character stat wise just because this game doesn't really give you I think any chances at all of reorganizing your stats so everytime you level up and upgrade your stats that's just what you're gonna be going with for the rest of the game (as a safe option, vitality and stamina are always worth it if you can't decide what to upgrade)
There are a lot of permutation, for the moment tho, the red bit is the stats you need in order to use a weapon so keep an eye out for that in case you find a weapon you like
So you can invest in the stats to use it
As a personal recommendation I find the halberd to be one of the best weapons in the game and it's a pretty in between weapon between dex and strength so it's easy to get the stats for it
claymore gang
Claymore is really excellent too but it's more of a str weapon
Playin cyberpunk in my van

Boss idea
Some sort of bell tower demon that uses a bell and chain as if it were a giant ass flail
There'd be hints before the fight that you're supposed to break the chain, making players assume they're in for an easier fight. But no. That just makes the demons attacks faster

Just finding out now that not only is there a modded version of Gekitou Ninja Taisen Special with an english patch, balancing updates and new characters and movesets but it's a game that is still being played competitively to this day
Fucking insane the things the FGC does, this is straight up a Budokai Tenkaichi 4 mod scenario (before Sparking Zero existed, I mean)
It's also making me lament the fact that this franchise is incredibly overlooked especially in comparison to the Storm series, I really would kill for a proper Naruto fighting game franchise right now, Ultimate Ninja and Storm just doesn't quite cut it
Really tempting for me to see if I can get this running and start playing around a bit, I'm just not really good at these types of 3D fighters unfortunately
I've never learned traditional/3D fighters properly, surely you'd be at least a bit better than me right now 😛
Ironically enough my introduction to fighting games were games like Bloody Roar and MK when I was very very young, which are 3D fighters, I only properly got into fighting games extremely recently and started playing online very recently with Strive and SF6, so I'm very new still but I'm more used to that type of 2D fighter more now
I don't count games like Ultimate Ninja, Ninja Storm, Budokai or Budokai Tenkaichi to be what's generally understood to be a fighting game but I guess in a way they count
I find platform fighters hard enough as it is. :^)
Fighters are a hard genre to get into and have always been, especially as time goes on because the playerbase only gets more and more full of experienced players who already know what's up
It's an uphill battle being a newcomer into fighting games and it's not something a large majority wants out of a game, who wants to spend 50+ hours on a videogame and only then start playing at a decent enough level? I understand why fighting games are relatively unpopular as a genre unfortunately
if I started in 2008 with the pure intent to play competitively, it would have been better for me
It's why all the anime arena fighters are vastly more popular, people get to play a game of a franchise they like, it looks pretty, it's easy to pick up and play, way more people want that
I think it makes a huge difference if you start a game with the intent to play it purely competitively, don't have time to learn bad habits this way
I don't think you need to want to play competitively, I sure don't, it's more just having the determination, time and patience to spend dozens of hours training and gathering information about mechanics and movesets etc, and a lot of people just can't be bothered to which is understandable
I play ranked but I don't play competitively if that makes sense, I'm not stressing out about it but I do want to improve
I started going to a SSBU local a few weeks ago
Finding a local scene for fighting games is always good, I don't think there's really any at all where I live and if there is it's probably very small but I know at every single convention I've went to there's always a row of TVs with some consoles and fighting games there
7-Eleven and Tetris are making a handheld.
ok
I always just backstabbed that guy
how do you backstab
Y'know that tower just above the room of rats?
You walk behind them really slowly then attack
noted
If you go there, there's a chest on top with some pretty good beginners loot
Backstabbing is your friend in DS1, any enemy that can be backstabbed can be chain-backstabbed by simply walking behind them as they're getting up before they turn around to face you
It's extreme cheese, but I never cared, it's efficient and gets the job done against the stronger black knights
Backstabbing does kill a lot of things if you land it, but I find it often trickier than just landing a parry
Especially against enemies with super consistent timings like Black Knights and Balder Knights
Black knights are super easy to parry
i dont think i can parry with just a claymore
It's about the same in terms of ''difficulty'' because it's all about getting the timing right, with backstabbing all enemies that can be backstabbed will get up at roughly the same interval of time whereas parrying can be a bit trickier and depends on the enemy type
You can parry with a claymore but I'd recommend a shield
I don't recommend using shields simply because I've found it way more efficient to simply dodge, but every single playthrough I've always kept one shield on my back all the time just for the stat boost that it offers and it's always been a part of my build every single time
but that depends on playstyle, of course
Guys do you think we'll get a dark souls remake
We got a demon souls remake but it decided to be cringe and be exclusive
It ain't the same
I wanna see it get the same polish as Elden Ring
Tomb of the Giants with current gen graphics and lighting

free jumping
Personally i want them to make a scifi dark souls like game
Its been tried but its not bandi namco qaulity
They can fix the bed of chaos!
I don't really see the point to it and I don't think it's a priority on Fromsoft's mind, I don't really think they're planning or thinking of remaking DS1 and I hope they don't, there's simply better things to put focus and money into than remaking a game that is barely over 10 years old
Yeah maybe in another 10 years
Plus I enjoy the visual style of DS1 as it is too, Demon's suffered too much from looking like an unreal engine demo
I don't think that's ever going to happen, even DSR didn't change much at all and some areas are even worse than the original
Oh god wait no
What if we get a SotFS scenario
What would be cool though
And we all know what happened with scholar of the first sin
Instead on medieval fantasy style. They do a different style
Bloodborne did lovecraft industrial era really good
Is there a way I could play original dark souls 2
It’s technically on steam but its not supported

Scholar of first sin is supported for modern operating systems
Dammit, FromSoft B Team
DS1 does look really good, though i am playing the Remastered version so idk how different it compares to the original
They already did a different style, Sekiro (and Armored Core)
Personally i want egyptian or middle east style
