That'll do it.
I don't understand why microtransactions are even in this game in the first place though. Like, the devs went out of their way to make the game as non-gamey as possible, even removing things like quest markers and compasses that are normally ARPG standards. For the devs, it was all about immersion and being able to explore and carefully pay attention to their surroundings to get everything you need.
And then suddenly there's microtransactions to completely undermine that vision? Wtf is Capcom thinking? The whole point and vision of the game is why people wanted to play it so badly. Has nobody learned anything from BG3?
Capcom is just being Capcom

They have always been iffy with MTX and have steadly gotten worse
oh ha another one fell into the hellhole.
Maybe this wll be the one to finally shift the narrative on them, or maybe it'll be the call for them to turn it around.
Oh, and DD2 is a single-player game. It's even MORE pointless to have microtransactions now.
As someone who probably has the least negative opinion on microtransaction in this server, my opinion was "wow that looks real bad"
Wow, the comments on Steam are cancer. Sooooooo many Capcom stans white knighting this game and defending the microtransactions and telling everyone else who are rightfully complaining about them to "get good and eat the shit you paid for".
Working towards a sustainable future
and yet you still engage with it thus it works

welcome to social media, where any publicity is good publicity
Apparently you're not allowed to make fun of people on the internet anymore
Maybe the 10th time I have seen someone say something like that to me
i mean, you chose to talk about it in a way that made you look like you were angry with it

I just like to show something funny. But half the time it seems whenever I try to communicate it would have been better off saying nothing.
I do hate it
But I also like to talk about it as well. I get that I can just ignore it, and sometimes that is better. But some stuff is fun to talk about.
i hate it too, i just don't choose to talk about it because frankly, it's not worth my energy
yeah the clickbait is absurd, but they know it is.
I mean I just talk about it cause I also find it funny
It's fine if you don't like talking about it. I kinda do though.
I also regularly watch videos on some negative things like this, or things like negative reviews. They also give publicity to this stuff, but certainly not good ones.
Next year YouTube would be like
"NeW MeGa EvOlUtIoN!!!11!!!(totally real!!!)"
Sometimes people hating on something can be good in a significant way than just ignoring it. If you ignore it, it might just become worse.
yeah but like
honestly, i don't have the energy for that anymore
there's already so much bad shit in the world, i'd rather focus on the positive
or at worst, something dumb and minor like a silly glitch that doesn't hurt anyone
i'm just A Guy™️, i've done my fair share of being in the Internet Drama Trenches, it's genuinely not worth getting all worked up over some clickbait
it's silly and absurd, sure, but it's like, they know that, it's how they make money, it's not really going to change
also, there's a big difference between critiquing something and hating it
a fair and balanced evaluation of the pros and cons of something is extremely valuable
but the easiest and often most profitable content to create on the internet is the kind that leans into blind memetic hatred regardless of reality or context
that kind of clickbait simply needs to be ignored; to do anything else is to encourage more of it

except, of course, drawing attention to better content
as i said, any publicity, good publicity thanks to Da Algorithms

I really liked his series on space exploration games. This one wasn't able to hold my attention as well, but I like that it was created.
it might help that out of all the games mentioned in the video I've played a handful at most, so a lot of this was brand new information to me, and even what he says about the games I did play put them in a context I was completely unaware of when I played them
Speaking of good content in YouTube, did y'all see that veritasium video on samurai swords that came out yesterday? Oh my God that was awesome...
e.g. when I played KotoR, I thought of it as "whoa, a licensed game that doesn't suck?" and had no inkling of it being a turning point in RPGs being consolidated into fewer larger studios, console-ified, and action-ified
It literally helped me understand Dwarf Fortress better

The Capcom shit is what I like to call typical AAA trash considering so many companies are taken over by business dickheads that could give less of a fuck about us and what we want just so they can make any kind of money. At least the vast majority of gamers have a good mind to not fall for that disgusting garbage and will hopefully keep doing so

It was definitely funny.

Friendly fire is fun indeed
This things been a dumpster fire
they should have done pvp only in the first place not waste resources on PVE when the main game is broken
its almost like another smaller dev did this with a fighting gam
The real reason was bobby
Iirc he forced reallocated resources for it to other projects which inevitably made it canned
Some clarifications, because I see people on the internet getting way too mad without actually checking any details
All of the microtransactions are stuff you can obtain in game already, the game is not like a mobile game where its designed in such a way to basically force you to get them, they just added in mtx for stuff you already get by just playing, just like they did with RE4R and DMC5 and a bunch of other games, it's the equivalent of buying rings in Sonic or coins in Mario, it's not defending it but there's a huge difference between that and what most people think when they think about mtx, and I hope people understand that this isn't a Dragon's Dogma issue just like it wasn't an RE issue or DMC issue, it's a Capcom issue so they should be blaming Capcom not the developers of this game who had nothing to do with the decision
Oh im aware of it being in the game already they did the same sort of thing with REmake 4
The plan they had pre scrapping was 3 missions every 18 months
Yikes
Twitter Bullshit: You have to pay to change your character's appearance in Dragon's Dogma 2

just to add to the Dragon's Dogma 2 thing because things are really heated right now and I don't want people to fall into the trap of believing others lying or greatly exaggerating the impact and effect these mtx have on the game just because it's criticizing something we all agree sucks
sure
https://vxtwitter.com/realMax0r/status/1771104077474091441
this post said it perfectly, this is just a Capcom thing and I really don't know what's going on with the suits at Capcom because they keep doing these for every game but these are the most inoffensive, unnoticeable and unimpactful mtx, people only found out RE4R even had these because they started making articles and tweets about it, otherwise nobody would've known
i like to imagine some capcom executive is just hilariously stupid and keeps demanding micro transactions so the devs of their games keep adding them for stuff that some guy will just cheat engine in, like in devil may cry, and he’s seemingly been fooled by this several times

💖 15.5K 🔁 1.27K
but the fact the MTX exists is a very legitimate reason to not buy or play the game
and to be mad
id argue the fact you can get these things so easilly highlights how stupid the MTX actually are
You don't have to argue because that's exactly what I'm getting at, I'm saying that a lot of people are reading microtransaction and they think something else when it's not the case, these feel like stuff that got added once the game was already finished just to meet a quota because some suit told them to put them in the game, not defending their existance at all
There are also way bigger issues to complain about, like the performance of the game, which I feel are vastly more important than microtransactions that have absolutely no impact on the game because the game wasn't designed in a way to get you to buy them
Not saying they should be there, just saying that people are blowing it out of proportion and making it something that it's not, regardless of how I feel about microtransactions I don't like seeing that so I'm just clarifying

Yes, but why use that sniper when you can get a sniper that shoots large explosive bullets
I guess it's more my V's style, I've been gearing her to go for a more stealthy agile sharpshooter style character and I tend to not go guns ablazing, I only use Rebecca's shotgun when I have no choice and when my pistol doesn't cut it (also because she's my waifu)

One time, I had to reload the game because my character—the “Arisen,” savior of the continent, heralded throughout the land—got stuck between a stone hut and an angled hill behind it. Someday, he will challenge the world-conquering dragon, but today, he can’t turn sideways or climb three feet.
This save system feels so stupid to me

Here's what you need to know about the Dragons Dogma 2 save system. Dragon's Dogma 2 can be a harsh place, and in this PSA, we'll let you know about its quirky save system, and how best to use it. From Dragons Dogma 2 manual saves, to autosaves and resting at a Dragons Dogma 2 inn, we'll break down Dragon's Dogma 2's systems, and hopefully, stop...
Also, please do not try to run this game natively on Steam Deck—not now and probably never in the future.

I am generous to new releases in these times. I always give them a month or two to fix stuff, I always expect them to be broken, so I never buy them on first days (although I know they should work well when they RELEASE it)
the unfortunate reality of software development is there are also guaranteed to be bugs that only happen to paying customers after release no matter how thorough internal testing was
(on top of all the companies releasing things that clearly weren't debugged enough; I dunno if this is one of them)
I give new releases several years to finish development
Once they're all done and ready, I wait for a good sale on the ones that remain good
speaking of which, I'm currently playing Cave Story for the first time
(might've slightly over-waited on that one)
Steam release with the +, I left the graphics/music/etc on their default settings
Yeah that's the one
It has more content which is what's important
Does it have a Japanese language option like the original?
of course
Fantastic
It's one of the games that marked the transition to modern indie development
so I've heard
From one of the boxing matches!
I did it to myself again
Lol, I read that as "Scalper's Card Shop" at first.
God that would be terrible..
huh, both of the siblings have "number" in their names (suu and kazu), that's gotta mean something
I should clear cave story, I've been procrastinating for years
"stuff I should've played years ago" seems to be the theme with me and games lately; more Castlevania, more Ratchet & Clank, Cave Story, etc
For me it is quite literally that I bought it and played a bit and left it there for years
lol
for whatever reason I seem to be unusually good at finishing (or dropping) the games I start
if there are any unfinished games I "want" to finish, I don't remember them any more
I feel the same now too. Sorta why I enjoy games that don't have much story now.
oh, personally I'm still all over the spectrum with story; there are very long games I play entirely for the story and actively avoid the gameplay, and others with essentially no story at all
so today I finished Grasstown... looks like that's roughly a third of the way through, cool
I can't recall any long story games I have finished other than gta games and the original read dead redemption
last one for me was... I guess you could argue Tangle Tower either way, but Nier: Replicant & Automata are the most recent unambiguous case of me "playing for the story"
I would love to finish Amnesia one day
i used to not care about story but idk
i like the Arkham games stories
i think that's it
oh Undertale duh
and Deltarune
it's weird how Cave Story keeps reminding me of Undertale despite not really having that much in common with it
Tale did talk me into playing the original Amensia and the Penumbras on stream, that was highly entertaining
likely going to play The Bunker eventually though those 2-3 games back to back was enough for a while
Dark Descent is a fire game
The Bunker is good from what ive seen but i havent watched a full playthrough yet
i do not care for Machine For Pigs or Afterbirth
or is it Rebirth
don't google afterbirth btw
I knew what the word meant long before BoI lol
no other game would ever use that in a title
Oh yeah. I need to keep playing this one.
You should include the full title for future reference
Shortcuts like that tend to have bad results
Yikes if true
the shit about that game is just getting worse and worse
its one of those cases the developers should be forced to refund everyone
They'll probably take the money and run. AAA gaming, ladies and gentlemen
probably
This is absolutely outrageous they will stop all new buyers if that's the case, what a disaster why would you do that to yourself
How can you make such an anticipated title such a disaster
'Take the money and run' from what exactly? This is about Denuvo messing up people's accounts and save files, as much as people were already critical of DD2 not letting you have separate save files this has more to do with Denuvo than the game
yeah this is something they will have to patch
Just like with the performance, which is the thing people should be talking about instead and is actually a more important problem (best case scenario they'd just remove Denuvo all together, but we already know Capcom of all people won't do that)
Single save was in the first game, has to do with the Pawn system. Deleting your save is people wanting to recreate their character. Denuvo is the true problem here.
People tend to be angry for sake of being angry because often people need something to pour their emotions
It's not quite like that either, not entirely, people are getting angry about game mechanics locked behind paywalls, about games being designed in such a way that they encourage microtransactions, about the insidious nature of publishers slowly introducing microtransactions for everything until we get used to it (we're already way past that), and those are all things worth getting angry and making a fuss over, it's just a shame none of those things apply for this specific case and people are believing misinformation and things getting blown out of proportion just because they see the word 'microtransaction'
it's also weird pointing that out because it sounds like defending microtransactions when it's more saying ''if you're gonna get outraged by this at least get the information right'' more than anything
Yeah that was the reason why my opinion was simply "it does look very bad" instead of anything else
Visually it really looks terrible
It looks terrible, and that's why it's so bad, the microtransactions are so useless that it doesn't even work as a way to sell anything, all the things you will obtain naturally, and it's only making people upset so everyone is losing
it's baffling
With Dragon Dogma it’s more people don’t know this stuff is in game and you don’t need the MTX. Similar to the other Capcom games.
I feel like it goes to show how quickly people will join in on outrage or discourse surrounding something they don't fully know stuff about
Now as I said, Steam's way of showing microtransaction as "additional contents" like DLC makes it look way worse than it should
MMORPGs and mobile games tend to have far, far worse microtransaction systems yet they know how to make it look less threatening
It's the difference of
"If you are having trouble, you can purchase 50 potions at $0.99, or even 200 at $2.99!"
and
"Potion pack (A) $0.99 Potion pack (B) $2.99"
And the fact that you can view it while not playing the game, or even not have purchased, makes the problem far worse
On one side, it allows you to learn if the game has microtransaction in it or not before purchasing.
On the other side, you will have absolutely no idea what those microtransactions even mean.
it definitely doesn't help matters that's for sure
I just said this in another server about Capcom's new game or whatever it is, but I'll say it here too. Ever since Street Fighter 6 came out, Capcom has been nothing but a greedy pain in the ass taking L after L
It's been happening way before SF6
I know, but what I mean is, ever since the release of Street Fighter 6, Capcom have been talking nothing but Ls ever since then, because of course, capitalist greed from suits that don't know what they're doing and don't care about player satisfaction as long as they can take the money and run. Typical AAA company garbage in 2024. I always sound like a broken record with this stuff, I know, and if it's annoying, then I apologize, but at the same time, it's just straight facts
Also some news on Overwatch , basically because the sells of the mission dlc didnt satisfy the company ,there will be no pve content ,at all ,just multiplayer
So they have a shocking very rare good thing happen where they mentioned that all of the future characters added will be free for everyone, but of course that doesn't have a chance to sink in for two seconds before they, as usual, piss off everyone again. Typical Blizzard
I mean, the PVE was barely there. They have what, some short PVE missions and the plan was one set of them every 18 months. Was never gonna succeed
Yeah the only bad thing about them cancelling PvE is that they promised it when they released, I think deciding to focus on a content that actually work is pretty reasonable
It was a big shift after Jeff left, and everyone's the poorer for it

vitally important question: new shoes or new pants?
Shoes I guess, You've got to walk on them, whereas you can kind of make do with bad pants.
works for me
At least the older games could be speed ran. Most games these days honestly can't. They're broken in the annoying sense and not the speed run sense lol
That is objectively not true.
have you... watched any speedruns of newer games?
Almost every game can be speedrun to some extent.
I regularly speedrun new games
some modern games have built-in timers, game modes or achievements for it, or even have a core gameplay loop inspired by speedrunning
In Breath of the Wild you could literally just walk up to the main boss straight from the starting cave and win the game right there if you were careful.
what's true is that the kinds of exploitable glitches you usually see in speedruns are fairly different nowadays, e.g. older games are far more likely to have "wrong warps", but newer games are just as if not more likely to have exploitable imperfections in triggers/scripts/collision/etc
I did say some could. Some can't
there are also games with known "dev-intended shortcuts" that speedrunners use, such as Tunic and Metroid Dread
what you said, and what everyone's objecting to, is "Most games these days honestly can't [be speedran]"
which is pretty close to factually untrue, all one has to do is look at a recent GDQ schedule and see how many modern games are on it
the Dead Space remake run had tons of flying out of bounds glitches, as one quick example of a modern game whose run felt much like an older game's run
If they're being ran these days, I haven't seen the vast majority of them being ran. I've seen things like the Crash and Spyro remade trilogies being speed ran, Spongebob BFBB Rehydrated, stuff like that
I mean, I just named at least three specific modern games that had great runs in the most recent GDQ speedrun marathon, one of which (Tunic) was even the opening run
if all you're seeing are old runs, that probably just means old games are the ones you're regularly searching for
Is that true??
oh yeah, famously so, nothing in BotW or TotK stops you from running straight to the final boss after you complete the tutorial, other than of course lacking the skills needed to survive it with zero equipment
that's also the main reason the any% runs for those games are so short; I'm only familiar with TotK's atm, but most of it is getting through the Great Sky Island tutorial, duplicating a few items from the GSI to use as weapons in the final fight sequence, then glitching through the ground to fall directly into the final fight sequence
my favorite is the glitch that lets you trick the game into thinking Link is holding 10-20 of the same weapon at once, so you deal insane damage to the final boss without any of the usual upgrades (and then randomly dump all 20 of them at once in a later scene)
It is an interesting question tho, are modern games on average less suited to speedrunning
to be honest, I'd say it's about the same, maybe slightly better since some are made with it in mind now
my personal experience watching both old and new games being speedrun is that the biggest differences are a) certain kinds of glitches are more or less common, and b) the completely unrestricted any% category is far more likely to be a boring ACE/wrong warp bug in an old game, but an actually interesting run in a newer game
Games that are primarily multiplayer are less suited for speedrunning and more common nowadays
oh that's a good point, though then it depends on how old "old" is since multiplayer games go back quite a ways
But my kind of games is still plentiful and perfect for speedrunning
There is also the open world trend to consider
Open world games are great for speedrunning because of how open they are
I think open world goes both ways, the format actually makes it more speedrunnable, but also maybe a bit less interesting
yeah, I think open world usually leads to a BotW/TotK situation where the speedrun is mostly the linear start bit and the linear end bit
or categories where you specifically require doing some of the other content
Yeah, the freedom to run interesting categories is nice
For the not open world ones, there are the more linear story games than they used to, and usually, unless people find glitches to skip story beats, they tend to not be great for speedrunning
People can and do run them in a boring way
to be fair, there are also some fully linear games that still make for good speedruns if raw player skill makes that big of a difference
I've been playing FF7 Remake so I have that in mind, and that for example doesn't strike me as a great speedrunning game, on like, around 5 hours of runtime for any%
GDQ had an amazing run like that of Touhou 14.3: Impossible Spell Card in the category that uses absolutely none of the helper items, which for mere mortals isn't even possible to do casually
i remember watching a Doom Eternal speedrun where Hugo Martin (the director) and a few developers were watching it and they thought it was so cool how the community found all those bugs

It's actaully a modified Pinsir. The ROM hack I've been playing gave a lot of Pokemon revised movesets to make them suck less, and it has turned Pinsir into a fucking unstoppable beast. He has Megahorn, Earthquake, Rock Slide, and Cross Chop (he cannot learn any of these moves in gen 2 and he kinda sucks as a result)

It's decent, but less good in gen 2 because of the fixed critical hit bug
I may have cheated to beat Stadium 2, but I still feel accomplished. I havent done a full clear of the game in possibly 15 years
(Save states were necessary for the Challenge Cup because of it being literally RNG, and I was technically using a ROM hack + also save editing to expedite team creation)
As much as people laud gen 2 and put it on a nigh untouchable pedestal, critically it has a lot of things wrong with it that I find extremely hard to ignore as an adult. Thus the ROM hack
spot the main character

It is actually better than all my other armor at the moment
well, Guardian armor aside but since that's DLC gear I'm choosing to ignore it because... Reasons

oh cool! I clearly haven't gotten far enough into world lol
my armour is like a mix of the high rank metal and some divers I think
yeah I understand not using Guardian unless you're rushing to Icebourne
Since you're controlling dozens of squads as opposed to the singular character you do in D&D, I was anticipating that W40k would have simpler rules on a micro level to make up for that added quantity of units in your control
What a surprise I was in for when I actually read the rules
Jocat is alive
Good, I hope he's doing well after the Girls Incident
God... What a shitshow that was.
It's true, Wh40k rules are complicated lol
The way the late InControl put it, WH40k as a game is in part, about how much bullshit you can remember from the rules in order to win the match.
Like, it's impossible to remember everything, there is too much, there is almost a bit of a social element in calling your opponent on the bullshit they are doing that is actually wrong in high level matches.
yeah, there was a great video on this recently
especially as GW has been putting out individual rules for one off units and the like.
Every time that I try to get into Warhammer 40k I get grumpy and frustrated... and I think I finally know why. I don't play enough! yeah no worries! I haven't gotten through it all myself, it's fairly long and conversational

I remember trying Kill Team, the skirmish sized version of 40k, and like, even with the scaled down size and simpler rules it's really hard to grasp for when you are starting out

Oh, this is harmless. Sonic's been cameoing and crossing over in games for years, even waaaaay back in the early 2000s.
Yeah, but like in AB2, srsly, AB2 out of all the games SEGA could have picked…
AB2’s like the worst AB game iirc cuz it’s overloaded with ads + difficulty spiking up by a massive degree at some point in the game
The AB events in Sonic Dash & Sonic Forces Speed Battle are somewhat ok tho
Like, the only nitpick in there has to be the AB movie designs being used
But otherwise the AB events in some Sonic games are ok
I mean in AB2 Sonic event there’s literally nothing you really win outside of cheap cosmetics & some rather OP power-up.
But if there’s one thing positive about it, then it’s gotta be how hilariously goofy the hats look on everyone
Like, with Red wearing a Sonic hat, Chuck wearing a Tails hat, The Blues wearing Knuckles hats, Stella wearing an Amy hat, Silver wearing a Cream hat, etc.
Idk, it still feels harmless to me.
Sailor Moon too, and a bunch of other animes and popular references and memes

Oh geez you beat this so quick
tbf it's not a super long game
I'm just watching the true ending now since I'd have to replay the whole thing to get it and don't feel like going that far
while we're at finishing games, I just finished Max Payne 2
I guess i technically haven't finished it yet because i still need to do the ending it unlocks for the game
huh, okay...
sometimes the enviroments in this game have lots of cool small details, I gotta remember to look around a bit more
I also unfortunately have to reload a save and go back an hour to the last quest I did because I chose the 'wrong' option, I didn't realize I could || call Regina to give Rinder cyberpsychosis treatment instead of either killing him or letting him go, which if you do let him go, he will then send money to the family of the people he brutally murdered during one of his episodes and fuck it all up because I told them I dealt with him
jesus christ...||
I want to play this game
oh yeah, very glad I watched true ending; the complete lack of save points during that whole gauntlet would've sucked all the fun out of it for me
pff
alright then
well good news is, I can access this stash anyways even if I do take the different route where he doesn't give me the code, so that's good

great so || even after I went back and did that differently and decided to let the guy live but sent him so he could get treated for cyberpsychosis it still leads to him feeling remorse for the killings and sending the families money anyway, this is my biggest problem with this game I thought the fact that you doing a bunch of cyberpsychosis quests for Regina before this giving you a whole new option was cool but for every cool new path like that most of them end up leading to the same outcome anyways, so why give me an option at all? ||
|| in-universe, I still would've went with this option just because from V's perspective I empathize with someone who's completely losing it and going crazy too, but if I knew it would be the same outcome I would've just killed the guy and save myself the whole moral dilemma ||

Judging a game by its gameplay is judging a book by its writing
I just look at metacritic or steam reviews. If they are really bad then it's pretty easy to figure out if the game itself sucks, if it's the target of review bombing, or if there's something else at play
Plus, it's IGN. Everyone knows how out of touch they are lol

oh boy
this is from earlier in this mission but this entire section was pretty fun, there wasn't a whole lot of it but I appreciated the alternate paths especially the option to distract the guard being something you can do rather than being highlighted as an option, feels very natural
only problem was Reed kept getting caught over and over and I had to redo this entire thing like 6 times
I think it's because I didn't aim and look at the guards coming down the elevator (because whenever you do V will warn Reed and he'll actually hide), pretty stressful but otherwise really fun section, I like that the walls are missing so it makes it feel like you're playing a 2.5D stealth game

Hey folks, if I wanted to play a good looter shooter that isn't Destiny, what would y'all recommend?
I've got Borderlands 2 and 3, but i've not gotten far in them and I was wondering if there are other good options out there.
I'm not sure if a rougelike would just be a better idea since those have random all kinds of items, but I'm hoping there's some PvE game that's not a rougelike so I can actually keep the items lol
For example, RoboQuest is great, but you swap in and out of guns so fast as you upgrade and when the run is over you're back to square one.
Suicide squad
I now hold a pair of Balatro world records. Highest Constellation (base game 8.0, endless 20.7).
oh boy
💦
|| I'm still choosing, but I'm leaning towards Songbird. I think both are 'wrong' here, I don't like how Songbird is clearly desperate and is making super rash decisions and overall seems super unstable (and okay with killing as long as it gets her out of here), but then again, she is about to die, just like me, I like Reed, but I don't like how stuck up he is with his position, I feel like at any point he could've said 'fuck it we're gonna go save my friend', but to this point he still just wants to do whatever he's ordered to do and that doesn't sit right with me ||

I don't play a large amount of looter shooters, but I did quite enjoy Tom Clancy's The Division 2.
- It isn't a roguelike, so you can keep your equipment (although you will have to replace them rather frequently in the early game to keep up with your character levelling up).
- The combat feels very smooth. While some enemies can feel like bullet sponges (particularly in the Warlords of New York DLC), this generally isn't a massive problem in my experience.
- I'm actually rather impressed with how the grind is set up. It's slow enough to keep you engaged for quite a while, but it is fast enough that you always feel like you're making progress. It never feels like it takes too long to level up, and there's a constant sense of progression from the beginning onward. I've invested over 100 hours into it at this juncture, and that sense of progression is still there.
- There is a diverse selection of weapons to choose from, so the game supports a wide variety of playstyles; a close-quarters assault rifle build is as valid as a long-range marksman build. The only real exceptions to this rule are shotguns, which seem to be almost entirely useless.
- It supports both team play and solo play. I can personally attest to the quality of the latter (I went through the entire game that way), but I've had enough experience with the former to say that it's pretty fun that way as well.
I would recommend looking into it if this sounds like something you may be searching for. Review videos and gameplay footage were what originally sold me on it, so I would absolutely see some of those if you're at all interested.
Thanks Stersurprise! I had looked into it a little, but I'll definitely look closer
Really appreciate the indepth response
what is a looter shooter
Think Borderlands 2. A game where you shoot things to get loot to shoot other things
It can be done well, or really really badly
usually in some sort of upgrading loop
where getting better loot unlocks harder missions which unlocks better loot and so on
sometimes tied with character progression (Borderlands) or sometimes tied to only items ( Zero Sievert)
fair enough! they can be quite fun, in a mindless sort of way
RoboQuest is a fantastic version of it in Roguelike form, but like, that's not everyones cup of tea
|| I saved right before I followed Songbird down the stairs, for the moment I'm siding with Reed, after thinking it through a bit he's at least honest and upfront about all his stuff but with Songbird I feel like I can't 100% trust her, plus I didn't really like all the emotional manipulation from before with all her texts and her dialogue, even knowing that she's basically a cornered animal willing to do anything at this point to survive. Just like Johnny said it's gonna be a fucking mess anyways and even he didn't know who to trust (because, he's me), I guess I'm just gonna see where this leads for now, I can always just load up the save if I ever regret it ||

I'm stopping here for now and thinking it through a bit more, I still got time to go back and choose since I didn't get very far anyways, I know it's supposed to be a complicated choice where neither is the 'good' choice but still I'm pretty torn
|| also not going to lie I'm leaning towards going with Songbird because Reed offed the cute redhead from earlier
I can't forgive that ||
the more I think about all the stuff leading up to this the more complicated the choice gets, I guess I can replay that whole section after taking the other path and see which one felt better and go from there since I have the save file, not knowing how long they take though I don't really know if I'm gonna fully complete both paths, especially since I kind of want to just go to the endgame already after I'm done here (I'm getting near 90 hours already)

bit late but atomic heart is pretty good,it has linear puzzle/combat sections and also a beautiful open world you can explore, also is intended to play through multiple times since you can find and unlock new weapons by exploring n stuff im p sure, banger soundtrack, good visuals, bunch of different abilities, and pretty fun fast paced combat.though im not sure how similar is it to your either listed examples but id def recomend checking it out
it runs pretty well too after the early-patch season and now has some more movement based dlc aswell
Just 100% Princess Peach: Showtime. That final boss fight tho. How can I phrase this without spoiling it...?
It felt like a good Kirby Boss.
Thanks, will check out
It's a very janky single developer indie game. It's meant to be the sound of those infected people crying, because they're in pain from the effects of urid consumption. I'm pretty sure it is literally just voiced by Endrew who made the game.
I feel like I am the only one who really likes Urge. And I'm ok with that.
Lots of positive reviews on steam though
But it's games like this, made by a small group of people oe one person, that can be janky as fuck, that I love the most. I don't like tripple A games and the amount of polish they have, it can be much less fun to me.
Oh God, I see that pic above and I see the Tails Doll. It doesn't help the Tails Doll was in Sonic Superstars lol
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a spinoff but it has a lengthy, but grindy endgame, if you're into that. also lets you make your own character instead of use a premade character.
does it have jakobs guns and does it keep the same "setting"/aesthetic as borderlands or is it more fantasy leaning?
bl3 really dissapointed me by not having as many jakobs weapons anymore
It does have jakobs guns but its more fantasy leaning. You still have things like guns, but grenades are replaced with magic spells and theres fantasy gun barrels that shoot crossbow bolts or energy waves. Also you can collect melee weapons and build for melee damage.
The level cap is kind of low and you only have 2 skill trees but the traits give a lot of stats and class abilities are pretty substantial.
Try pre sequel maybe, fans like crapping on it, but at least imo it's pretty good, more gimmicks, different aesthetic and it's not overly long as BL 2 and especially BL 3
played it and i didnt really enjoy it
bl2 just set too high of a standard other games couldnt keep up with in the series
Especially in villain department, after Jack we had Zarpidon and she was, fine I guess, and then the Troy and tyreen which are down right insufferable
The next Grounded update adds cross platform play so I decided to finally pick it up, fortunately it is also free on Xbox game pass.
I finally played lethal company today

Interesting
Good example of 'ultra settings are stupid'. One is on the highest setting called 'ultra' and one is on one lower called 'epic'
And I honestly can't see any difference
Just casually gain almost 50 fps by not being on ultra
Then low settings just does 430 fps with a cpu bottlenneck
in newer games there often are pretty significant differences tbh
ofc its preferences if ur willing to sacrifice the performance for it,but i wouldnt say that its just a one sided "not worth it"
I mean if you have the gpu power then sure
Like if you run the game at over 60 fps on ultra then why not
in rdr i was willing to go as low as 40fps maxed out settings just cuz of the sheer beauty of the game
and i usually dont tolerate at all under like 80
I did that on my 2070 super but honestly even on low settings with ultra textures that game looks great
it does look decent on lower settings aswell, but its a completely new level on ultra, like i never seen a game as beautiful as it is,closest it got was maybe atomic heart
A lot of games now will look amazing even on low.
I do agree with that. I played at 4k max including all the advanced and it felt almost like I was playing a live action movie. But I don't need that. I just like to experience the game.
i love in game photography a lot so i often try to max out the settings cuz shit is just so beautiful and needs to be pictured
That makes sense
I'm just someone who doesn't care much for graphics now. I guess part of that is playing on an amd 780m. But I don't feel like I need more.
dying light 2 on max settings allowed me to get these beauties
and i have a lot of rdr 2 pics aswell, but i need to launch the game to get those
To me I'm just like, why should I pay for so such an expencive PC, when i can get basically the same gaming experience for way less
Less then $1000 USD
And then I get it portably
But anyway my main point was just how in lot of games now, if not most, max settings tends to tank your fps in return for very little or almost no noticable image improvment
id say best to compromise
shadows, textures, post processing on max and everything else can fuck off to lower settings
depending on game anti aliasing can maybe stay
HE SAID THE THIIIING
Yeah those are important. I would say post processing not so much, I sometimes like to play games without any post processing.
i learned to appreciate good post processing with time tbh, used to not care about it at all but now i actually like it
I also generally like a bit of TAA since I play games at 720p a lot now
oh yea on 720p its absolutely necessary
on 1440p though its useless unless a game handles hair in a goofy way where it makes it look bad without AA
As long as I'm not loosing much performance. If I am I might as well just go up to 1080p.
And maybe it is just me not caring much for graphics, but I find games do look really good even on a larger 1080p display when using RSR to upscale from 720 to 1080
It'd be fun to have a 4090 and play games at 8k ultra I'm sure, but I don't need that, nor do I feel like I would ever personally benefit from that.
Probably quite evident by the fact that I have essentially downgraded what GPU I use at my desktop
personally i really wanna move up to 4k but 3080 is just not a 4k card
Funy that... I played a lot of games in 4k on my 2070 super
Even without a 4k monitor, I just used super resolution or whatever Nvidia's version is called.
Made games look really sharp
No issues with aliasing
DLSS,im really picky with upscalers but i think at res as high as 4k it ciould maybe work
oh
I am playing the game at 4k, as set in settings, then downscaling to 1080p to fit onto my display
or I did
I could also try that on my 780m in some older games
yea ik what it is my dumbass just didnt process the message correctly
pff its fine
brain aint braining today
So yeah I guess I have a bit of both in me.. Part of me loves going badshit insane with graphics. I've even played Minecraft with path tracing shaders. But then another part of me doesn't care.
but yea if not for gaming at the very least for daily use i really wanna get 4k,but displays for it are expensive since i would need something above 60hz
Like it is awesome to look at but it is still the same game
i love rtx in bedrock but in java so far it looked kinda ass, maybe i jut didnt find the right shaders though
Oh yeah true. I'd like to get a 4k display even though a 780m couldn't play any newer game at that. 120hz would be good as well.
Apparently the java version can't make use of the ray tracing cores
ill probably look into how much it would be to get one cuz i still need a 3rd display anyways, maybe i could ball out for a really good HDR and colour accurate display even with lower refresh rate as a 3rd one for like videos n shit
And also things like frame generation and upscaling being a thing, I feel more content with just using a lower end GPU.
ye that makes sense
But that's enough talking about me though. My main point was just how much fps increase you can get from lowering a settings preset by one
Granted a game called escape the backrooms certainly isn't the best example
But the newest tripple A game I have otherwise is Doom Eternal
Or maybe RDR2, not sure which came first
rdr came first iirc
Ok yeah then doom eternal is the newest tripple A game I have
I am just more interested in indie games
Seriously though for a second I gotta say, escape the backrooms looks fucking awesome graphically
I gotta try Dead Island Definitive Edition on the 780m, that game played at a consistent 300 fps on the 2070 super
1st game is amazing
Yeah I love it so much
2nd was kinda dissapointing in comparison
Not often I buy a game twice, but I have it on PS3 and PC
Yeah I heard the 2nd one wasn't as good. And it just sorta came out and then everyone forgot about it. Or maybe I just forgot, idk.
its fine but its boring, piss easy,0 personallity just "haha silly pop culture reference"
combat has 0 depth aswell
its not a bad game on its own but its nowhere near good either, just average
I love the first game so much. I really feel nostalgic for the first area.
i played it back in like 2017 and i was really in love with it,though didnt get to finish it cuz it got locked out of my library on xbox
cuz i had games from a bug not legally owned
basically i bought an xbox, fully factory reset n shit, logged in,redeemed gamepass coe and i had a library of gamepass games+ even more even after it ended
then one day it was just fucking gone
One of the issues with digital games
oh its not an issue it was a blessing if anything
At least with steam for now I feel safe in feeling like all my games will stay
had like 300 games for over a year, got to try out so much shit
same,i bought cs source and titan fall 2 recently cuz insane sales and both great games
though cs source really only for surfing
I'm just looking at the acheivments in escape the backrooms since I am planning on getting them all, and of the ones I do have, I am surprised just how little a lot of people have.
Only 9.8% of people have seemed to have finished the game. Though I suppose it is a long game for what some people consider a meme
3.3% of playres have beat level 5 in singleplayer... Which only takes like 2 hours of play time

Rumor is tomorrow their showing off a new marvel game in the style of overwatch
That was a fun map
I ENCOUNTERED DA DANGER PICKEL
aka the Deviljho
and my friend, in the VC was like "sure, you try to take him down"
in my tier 4 fucking armor
I'm in HELL
How is it?
Looking classy 🤭 even in hell
Dapper as hell
(Witcher 3)
It's been three days since I try to defeat them, the game was easy and now I just struggle so much
Ah, I see you've encountered the angry pickle
and BEETLEJUICE
The console part is understandable even sony is releasing pc ports are becoming a major form of revenue
Plus microsoft has windows. They dont even really need the xbox at this point other than for branding.

I think the console shortages of 2020ish did a lot of damage to the idea of a console tbh
Glad to see that Phil Spencer still gets it. He's a dude that I actually feel like feels bad for having to lay off so many people
idk if nintendo will start releasing stuff on PC. Probably not but who knows
Yeah, no, probably not lol
It took Nintendo ages to dip into mobile and besides Pokémon Go they don't seem too entrenched in it
PC gaming is generally seen as a weird creepy nerd hobby which is why consoles generally do better in Japan
But this trend could have changed in the last decade or so
Nintendo tried some stuff and then quickly (almost) gave up with mobile games
And scalpers
Tiny Tina's was my shit. Not only did I 100% that game and delved into the DLCs, but Tina is also one of my favorite Borderlands characters as a whole. It made me a fan of Borderlands, and I went on to 100% complete Borderlands 3, get annoyed at the older games, and well, I still will say, Tiny Tina's post game was still trash with the seemingly endless annoying arenas lol
They always bring the PC versions 1-2 years after the console release.
They still love consoles, but they now play PC a decent amount after PUBG and Apex
Apex Legends is pretty huge in Japan
I think they started to move to Valorant
Oh yeah I forgot about apex legends
I'm not as plugged into this stuff as I used to be
Always? since when?
At least after Bloodborne
For some reason I feel like adding u in Bloodborne and write Bloodbourne, I'm somehow making it sound British
idk why you yay'd at that
It's more like a grim joke about Bloodborne never getting a PC port
I use it as haha coz I'm dum
Bloodborne innit
Yes I know
They really do be porting games but it seems like it only applies to games AFTER the decision
So no Bloodborne.. nor Red Dead Redemption
It went everywhere just not to PC. Even Switch.
Only way to have rdr on pc to emulate a console still
That part surprised me a lot. They just do not want it on pc for some reason but will put in switch. Even though no other rockstar game is on switch.
Well GTA is on Switch
Actually yeah I forgot the gta trillogy
'Would be cool if one day they made a version of this game with updated graphics. No wait, I am playing that..'
Ironically the easiest way to play rdr1 on pc is to pirate and emulate the switch version
What they advertised: GTA Definitive Edition
What they delivered: GTA Dogshit Edition
They delivered the mobile versions of the games with poorly made graphical effects
I still would rather play the original disc version with mods
https://fxtwitter.com/playtlgame/status/1772655900286673391? @random steppe I think you wanted to play this?
Solisium beckons...

Or something like it
i wish tbey ported GTA V
Mario. Theres like 3-4 ports of gta 5 already

Though i am surprised they didn’t prot the xbox one version to the switch
I think the switch would be on fire if GTA V was on it.

it's a game from 2013 it can run it fine
If Switch 2 will be compatible with the first one I'm gonna buy it day 1
No questions
Rumours are the switch 2 will be as powerful as a PS4 and a Xbox one
Thats about in line with nintendo
Its better than the current hardware but still behind. At least most modern games will be able to actually run on it
Nevermind Steam Deck, ROG Ally, I want a switch that will play previous switch games better. I'll be cozied up in a blanket playing Princess Peach, Mario and Zelda
Though not really rumors. But nintendo will be including denuvo in some of their games going forward likely with the new system
That should be a fun time to see if it actually breaks anything
Isnt denuvo only a fear when you try to pirate them?
i really really hope it's backwards compatible
It can sometimes cause bugs or issues in games if implemented incorrectly
Oh that's interesting
I think it does to a smaller extent even when it's correctly implemented
Xbox chief Phil Spencer has hinted that PC game stores like Epic Games may appear on Xbox. Spencer hints at "opening up" the Xbox model 👀 https://www.theverge.com/2024/3/26/24112591/microsofts-gaming-chief-hints-that-xbox-could-get-pc-stores-one-day

Good decision
FUCK THEM AI RACERS
they barely have one functioning storefront
Besides what would be added thats not already on the xbox
This is the new age sadly
Spiderman would become playable
They also mention steam being added in the article
Which would be huge
That can't be true
I mean it's straight from Phil spencer
I mean it could but it would be kinda too crazy
I already have too many games to play i mean
With every Thursday giving free games?
At least we got a very promising DLC
Apparently the DLC is gonna release on all platforms, including Xbox iirc
Hopefully it won’t shove microtransactions down our throats as Asphalt 9 does
Still this shit CAN’T BE REAL…
Well it's.. kinda free to play right?
I think so too!!
Idk, Asphalt Legends Unite is supposed to be a DLC for Asphalt 9, so the price could be literally anything
I think Phil Spencer (very handsome BTW) is just sugaring our lips
With the whole IDEA of Xbox being so eager to work with anyone
Fr
I mean it makes sense
It doessss
That's the weirdest part
If it happens I'm gonna go out of myself and stand next to me
I’ll legit crush my Xbox in a hydraulic press is that occurs
Geoff Keighley shares thoughts on playing 5 hours of JUDAS, the new game from BioShock creator Ken Levine and Ghost Story Games -- and the game's bold new approach to single player narrative.
First revealed at THE GAME AWARDS 2022, JUDAS does not have a set release date.
Watch Geoff and Ryan McCaffrey talk with Ken about Judas:

Very bioshock 1 vibes looks great
I think the phrase you're looking for is "I'll be beside myself"
Thank you sorry ill remember
https://i.imgur.com/b0FNuMJ.png In this run I started as a pacifist bard and found a double barrel shotgun
Since I was a pacifist and had a build that maximizes gold gain, I got 895% as much gold as normal
Or around three times the NG+12 level I'm used to
Yus, wishlisted that since it first appeared at.. last year game awards? Bioshock meets system shock
Oh it's out??
No someone just got to play a gameplay demo of it
oh youre a hammer player?
thats an interesting choice to start with,p good though
Bought
Reminds me of Jimmy Neutron for some reason lol
Evil Genius is a fun game i loved the orgional soo much. the 2nd one was ok but some of the changes in gameplay i was not a fan of. Still fun but in a different way
its a sort of base builder strategy game where you have various types of minions. the base building componant is sort of like dungeon keeper style. various rooms that do certain things. various minion types with differnt skill sets.
part of the base is also keeping it disguised from the world at large. so it also operates as a hotel of sorts to distract the forces of 'good' that operate aaround the world. The world map is split into i think its 6 factions. and you can anger them each separately and they send agents at you to try and take down your player character.
you use the world map to steal items and money to gain well resources and notoriety to the point you eventually launch your doomsday weapon against the world
Ah. Yeah, those have never really been my kind of thing lol
its certainly not a gameplay type of everyone
It was also very slapstick humor silly

this is so real
We may not have the same game genre interests, but I can at least admire the Zipp representation lol
he used the same animation to throw the ball as he does when using Shortstop secondary fire
that's why he fumbled it

huh
Here me out. This could work
Playing a superheros and villians beating the crap out of each other and doing objectives can be done right
Game is ass, but music is somehow fire

Opened Millennia reviews
Somehow devs had insane skill issue
Imagine Civ genre game without MP

I can't get over escape the backrooms... For what sounds like a meme game is so amazing
I'm going through it getting all the singleplayer achievments but man it is scary
🚨 Just Announced: @MarvelRivals is a new 6v6 team-based PVP hero shooter from NetEase Games and Marvel Games for Steam and Epic Store. Free to play. Beta coming in May.
Alpha test will feature 12 heroes including Black Panther, Spider-Man, Magneto, and Magik.
is that tara strong in the trailer? lol
doesn't sound quite like her
been playing Metroid Prime 2 again, last time it was GC version and I got stuck on a very difficult boss, am now playing Trilogy (using PrimeHack in both cases) and this time I got the boss on my first try… but now I’m stuck on a puzzle
overwatch killer?
Considering the higher ups of OW are mismanaging it to hell.. possibly, yes
it's gonna be 6v6 tho which just like the previous OW had
Now this, this. Has potential. God, I hope they don't somehow squander things again lol
Also, I think I did hear a good amount of Tara in that trailer lol
If the closed alpha doesn't even start until May, it'll probably be around the fall when we see the game come out in full if anything. If they do like the XDefiant devs have been doing, maybe early 2025 lol
...I'm pretty sure I just heard Illidan's VA as Strange's VA
6v6 looks like the face of a strange bird
high hopes for that game, since i kinda enjoyed OW2 (if playing with friends)
I mean lets be fair
Overwatch 2 is just overwatch one at this point with better textures
ye thats matt mercer for sure
no surprise hes in everything
If you manage to forget all the BS microtransactions being shoved down your throat every two seconds. They practically did a 180 within the same week recently. Saying that all future characters added would be free, but then turning around and cancelling any future PVE content lol
Its NetEase, expect the worst micro-transactions yet.
true

Oooooh Skul!
Oh no, Minecraft
The purple boi will returneth
I’ll wait for a better source.
But Canadian Guy Eh
I don't think he'd be messing around about hearing that stuff over at Pax East from multiple devs. Especially knowing how much of a Crash and Spyro fan he is. I know I'm one that likes waiting for official sources, but I can at least trust this guy
swag
Not to mention that he said a very credible dude mentioned that Toys For Bob and Microsoft reached an agreement about Spyro 4
Its not much about messing around, its about accuracy and ‘raising expectations’.
If the new game is in development, who is making it? It might not be Toys For Bob, but could be a weird partnership perhaps. Will it have micro-transactions? Will it be multi-platform?
My dad works for Nintendo, he said Mother 4 is in development. /s
I’ll just ground my expectations rather than getting excited.
I think Microsoft knows how well the Reignited Trilogy did. Spyro 4 wasn't a matter of if. Rather when
Your dad needs to talk to his mother more
Insomniac has to make spoder man
They can multitask with how many people work on multiple projects.
I’m sure they have a Ratchet game in development somewhere.
I would hope so lol

Nice to know that Valve is doing totally productive things, like making orbs

Back in November we announced the Steam Deck OLED. It's available now, and though it's got a bunch of great improvements like longer battery life, faster downloads, and better repairability, the star is its ultra-bright HDR OLED screen. When the launch was on the horizon, we got together and started to plan the announcement trailer. We knew earl...

this is their plan to put off Half Life 3 forever
just keep building more and more elaborate orbs

Oh wow, I thought I was pinged from somewhere, but for some reason Discord wouldn't show me where.
Ultimately, while this does raise my eyebrow a bit, I'll believe it when I actually see a trailer for it. Spyro rumors are pretty notorious for almost never being right.
I would like it if we can avoid sharing unsubstantiated rumors in this channel
Well they know it will make a lot of money when it does get announced.
I heard they are making a sequel to Hollow Knight
That one's not a rumor. It's been announced
unless...?
Unless they die I guess
Reminder: Diablo 4 on game pass starting tomorrow, if you wanted to take a look. It's in a much better state than launch, but I'd still wait until season 4 (A month+ from now) for the massive itemization changes

The game itself is plenty fun - the systems (endgame stuff) was not, but that's what's been and is still being improved
I have the game modded so the world is bigger. Normally, you only have five levels of scale https://i.imgur.com/4cnL54b.png
EA is gonna do this before Valve can make their app silicon, dear god Valve wtf.

T-thanks EA?
hopefully valve worshipping days will be over soon 🙏
I'm not sure who I rather support.
Valve or EA...
EA is bad but at least they're big, Origin was bad but this app seems to remove a lot of the fat Origin introduced. Uplay is okay but its... Uplay. (Oh sorry, UBISOFT Connect now)
Epic can go fall a ditch for all I care.
Well, EA also has been making/publishing okay games so far... haven't seen much trainwrecks unlike the 2013's.
bro wtf
...............Who?
Great, so nobody from Gen Z, 2/3rds of the players for CoD, will likely not know who they are either. These guys are from the 70s.
probably had to look up who they were before posting this
I'm 34 and only recognize the names extremely vaguely
