I still have no idea what's going to happen at Deerfest but I can't stop laughing every time someone says "Deerfest" in a deathly serious tone of voice
that does sound vaguely ominous

Iāve actually not played that one

I guess all the comments about gaming not completely dying out gives me a bit of hope, but the AI shit is just scary at this point. You never know how many people are gonna give up on games in the future if this shitty direction continues
I... really don't see how AI is a threat to gaming as a whole
there might be specific jobs, like voice acting, where for many projects AI makes more sense than paying humans, but that doesn't mean the game won't get made
far more likely, it means games on a budget where the options are "text only" vs "AI voices" might now offer both options instead of only the former
also remember that "AI" is a massive buzzword, and a lot of what people lump into that term these days has been possible for decades or more, the biggest recent change is that these tools got easy enough to use that now anyone can do them
"AI is going to kill <industry>" has the same energy as "Photoshop will kill art" or "automobiles will make horses extinct"
When i was little i use to think that horse power literally meant that it took that many horses to make an engine
Me at the toyota factory dropping horses into the grinder.
Well duh, where do you think the horse power comes from in thos things? Gotta extract it out

when I was little, and my family watched Emperor's New Groove, I asked my parents what "extract of llama" means

Someone found how to ābypassā Enigma DRM and fix/mod the games
āļø Quoting Prof. 9 (@Prof9)
Hello fellow Capcom game modders! If you, like the MMBN modding community, ran into the issue of Enigma Protector killing your mod loaders, here's how we fixed it for MMBN Legacy Collection.
I don't know if it'll work for other games, but maybe it help...
people know how to crack DRM! especially when you add it to a game that didnt have it before!
even the best DRM is only a stalling tactic
all mit does is inconvenice legitimate customers! those that were gonna pirate were always gonna pirate
DRM/encrypting game data is all about buying time
it never lasts forever, but when it's more intrusive, it tends to last longer
Also having one is a great legal defense for game companies
Since cracking drm is by itself against DMCA
most lucrative sales happen after release, so having a game that is crack-free for 3-4 months can help the studio's bottom line a lot
Didnāt capcom just put DRM back into older titles?
yes thats the conversaion
If it gets enough backlash they will probably remove it.
Yeah in this case the games were around for years
If not theres was to circumvent it. So cracks will be appearing online soon
If anything the crack can just be a patch to convert the game to the old no-DRM version
finally, i got a fucking second card in Circle of the Moon
damn, another one dropped like 30 seconds later
I mean, they sure made horses a lot more threatened and caused the demise of a lot of breeds...
the point was that it's an exaggeration, not that it's completely baseless

Full game launches Jan 18.
I think a more apt comparison that relates to the real threat is "automobiles will make coachmen without a job"
Which outside of the very few tourist carriages that go around, is pretty much true.
Oh that's soon.
Fuck the game looks really good but Ubisoft do not, IDK if I want to give them money
Iāll probably download the demo later.
Huh. I recall there were some flying enemies I could probably use as platforms, lol
Ooof when even IGN canāt be positive about your game in a preview then you know this is likely a real stinker.
deerfest is me eating cool ranch doritos at 2 in the morning
That's so real
I feel like the game was not expecting me to scavenge for resources half as much as I did
that or it's going to get a lot harder later on

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown works extremely well as a traditional 2D Metroidvania, with tight, satisfying combat and a stylish new look ā though, the story can feel a bit jumbled at times.

Fun fact about the Carbon Engine was it was worked on by Modern Vintage Gamer, he even did the modern ports of Shantae
MVG did a lot of things
True true
Have any of you unintentionally performed a glitch in a game?
What about intentionally?
I'm curious
The first glitch I ever performed was the infamous Toy Hammer glitch in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It's surprisingly easy to do and I farmed rare stones lol
Yeah every day
In the NES game called Anticipation, when it was the horn's turn, the weirdest glitch I ever saw occurred causing it to float to the next level but it played the music all wrong and it was totally crazy ending in a wild glitch screen but I have no idea how we did it.
In Crystal Project I did a low% run using a high jump bug that allowed me to skip to the end of the game fighting only three bosses out of about thirty
lol nice
I'd share details but as this game is exploration focused I don't want anyone to use it before they finish the game once
I am so glad Speedrun.com exists. https://www.speedrun.com/anticipation/runs/ydg2rqwy
Pretty sure I played a physical game with this board
Rather, watched people play
I have no idea how it plays
Oh neat! I didn't know this nes game was based on a physical game besides pictionary
Very cool
Wait I'm stupid
It was parcheesi
They're topologically identical
I've heard of parcheesi many times but never learned how it works
You win when you dice the hardest
I also played https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorry!_(game)
Sorry! is a board game that is based on the ancient Indian cross and circle game Pachisi. Players move their three or four pieces around the board, attempting to get all of their pieces "home" before any other player. Originally manufactured by W.H. Storey & Co in England and now by Hasbro, Sorry! is marketed for two to four players, ages 6 and ...
Though I don't recall how that played either
Why do old board games all suck
I can't enjoy a board game unless it has the equivalent of a subway surfer and two phones with tiktok going on at the same time
... this new Nikke character's 3D model is on point
SHE USES HER PET LION AS A MOUNT
some classic games are pretty good, but yeah its really only in the last... 20 years or so that board games got really good
catan is way better than monopoly for example
Catan is one exception I considered
betrayal at the house on the hill, 7 wonders, coup, resistance... so many legit great games nowdays
much more engaging than monopoly
the alst two are bluffinng/social deduction games, 7 wonders is a euro games where you're building a civilisation centring on one of the 7 anciant wonders of the world, betrayal is... weird to describe. you're in a horror b movie, but you dont know what horror movie... yet. at some point, the haunt will start, and one of the players will turn into the betrayer and fun stuff happens (its not actually a horror game, just uses horror tropes)
most games were developed without a great deal of awareness of game theory (from a balance/completion perspective) and without much solid design theory (for example, an idea of having clear and concise game-ending conditions and win conditions)
i play a lot of board games lol
I mean, most games from prior to the late 1990s or so, specifically
Yeah
whereas if you go into a board game shop right now and buy something newish, it'll almost certainly have reasonable balance between different players / teams and playstyles, clear and concise goals, clear ending mechanisms ("the game runs for 5 rounds" or "the game ends when any player has amassed 10 points"), and a fairly predictable amount of time for the game to take

Those system specs arent gonna save that ui
Yeah the UI needs a rework
Saw people saying "This is all because of the Chun-Li mod incident."
Nah, I guarantee this is because people are complaining about the price of SF6 costumes, while modders are pumping out great looking costumes for free every day. It's about money, it's always about money.

Capcom started adding DRM Enigma Pr...
Yeah, it's definitely because capcom has a lot of paid cheats for their old games
Tbf REmake 2 and 4 essentially had paid cheats
But my guess is they used the old games as a testing ground since it was less likely to be noticed instead of a newer game
Re2make has a really really good cheat mod
you can do all kinds of wacky shit with it
my favourite is changing Mr X's animation speeds
the game goes from horror to comedy when Mr X does no damage but is 25x faster
Capcom's stance and crackdown on mods because they can't handle the fact that modders are doing a better job than them is fucking infuriating
The same pettiness came through when DMC5's Special Edition came out, for the special edition on consoles they added Turbo Mode, Legendary Dark Knight mode and Ray Tracing, but that never came for PC, even though people wanted to buy it on PC
All because pc already had mods, and Capcom knew that, so they were being petty assholes about it
I don't know what crawled up their ass that they're starting to go against their community so badly right now it's insane and infuriating because they were doing really good and the games they've been putting out are great
People are saying this is all because of that nude Chun Li mod incident but that's complete bs, the last straw was the outrageous prices for the costumes in SF6, mixed with all that in-game currency shit and the awful collaborations they've done, they know modders are giving people exactly what they want and they're very upset by that

London Urchins don't fuck around
Totally not broken.
The funny thing is, it's not broken
Enemies and NPCs have done that since AC1 where templars chasing you start parkouring around
"Sir, you're wearing full armor, how the fuck are you parkouring almost as well as i am?"
Yeah. Really should have known better than to use anything nintendo with your mod. Dolphin made clear nintendo will throw a fit with anything emulator or mod being tried to put on steam
By "proprietary library" do they mean the ROM format?
I imagine since he wanted to put it into actual carts possibly
A "library" is a piece or collection of code that you call on to help you do stuff
In this case, you can just write your own code instead of relying on a library

Alan Wake 2 is so good
@random steppe how far did you get so far? I just finished Return 5 (after Initiation 5)
also hey, nice
way earlier in the dungeon this door was closed and after you're done with the boss you can make your way back by going through the door from the other side and making a shortcut, so there's some light metroidvania ish design in the layouts on dungeons and even on the regular overworld
neat
It's the best modern Silent Hill /s
I'd say it's closer to RE than SH overall but that's probably still not wrong lol
Gameplay wise I guess but I was more so referring to the entire thing overall, it's the closest thing we've gotten to a good Silent Hill-esque game for a while
have you played it?
If watching a streamer 100% it counts as playing it, I had been talking about Alan Wake 2 (and the Alan Wake games/universe in general) a lot in the last month or so as I was going through it
this a few days ago: #1032716748887179434 message
I still don't know how I did it.
Just back the DRM-free copy of the game up while you have it
Move it to a different folder and use it as you please
They're absolutely putting it back, and not only in Resident Evil Revelations but on as many games as they can
A lot of their games were already reported to straight up not even run in Steam Deck
Some games like RE5 and DMC3 are hellish to run vanilla without all the fixes and tools that the mods provide
It's all so incredibly awful already but the incredibly hostile response Enigma gave to people complaining that this was ruining mods and ruining the performance of games just makes this entire thing unnacceptable to me
They deleted that entire forum thread too, because of course they did
Someone already figured how to break it is probably why they removed it lmao
They flat out said that anyone who brought this up again would have the thread deleted

''Keep sharing this rubbish I promise you sooner than you think it'll be all you have left''

That's a sobering and very truthful quote.
The worst part is I also enjoy the AI parodies sometimes, I have enjoyed some stuff people have done with it since the 15ai days where the main purpose of it was for MLP parodies and have characters say wild stuff
but I've definitely started to enjoy the shitposting side of AI less and less considering how wildly out of control it has gotten
The way he said it you can tell how he feels about this whole thing
Well, yeah, it's a little different if it's an obvious parody and the VAs understand that.
It's when it's presented as a real thing that it's a problem
Definitely feels very depressing to me how AI could have legitimately been implemented as a tool if artists were actually given some time to see how they could properly implement these into their work, I can see AI working especially well for gaming when it comes to programming or coding, with animation it could be definitely used as a way to get through 'boring' parts of the process like filling in the colors which... takes a lot of time, a lot
Yep. Its just that is being designed to attempt and replace workers instead of assisting.
But no, because all these industries are ran by old people that are out of touch and have no clue how things work that possibility is gone now and there's kind of no turning back at this point
Like I can see how cool AI can be, but holy cow it is such a double edged sword.
It's also really depressing seeing how many people straight up have attitudes like ''I don't care'' ''keep crying about it'' ''you're mad because you're getting replaced/a machine can do better than you'' ''ai is the future'' etc, etc
And because they're just awful people in general, it shouldn't take for this to affect them so that they could either empathize a little bit with the people affected by this or just be worried that this will cause a significant drop in quality for the products they consume because it'll all be regurgitated AI slop
But people talk a lot of shit on social media in general, really no site is safe from that and reading comments anywhere is going to cause your IQ to drop and make you lose hope in people so I try not to do that
The anonimity the internet gives people definitely emboldens a lot of people but I always felt weird saying ''that's how the internet is'', it kind of just reflects how shitty (or good) people can be in real life
I lost a lot of empathy and had to gain it back after using the internet for so long.
It does disconnect you a lot from reality.

I used to think people saying ''oh I uninstalled facebook and I've never felt better!'' were just boomers exaggerating but no, even if you just casually browse around and you're not doom scrolling 24/7 everyday it really does start wearing you down over time
I definitely see the value on actively trying to minimize social media usage now
Online gaming as an example desensitize me a lot by becoming really rude/immature. (thanks xbox) Of course I shouldāve known better blah blah but you donāt think of that because everyone echoes the same behavior.
Its a bit mind fucky.
Same can be said with fandoms.
The same happened to me on some degree playing League, it's a bit of a joke that league players have an addiction and I definitely lean into it as a joke a lot but there's more truth to it than you'd think, it would legitimately affect me and sometimes make me physically shaken up and I would keep playing anyways
I think people underestimate how subtly these things can affect you, you always think ''this would never happen to me! I'm too smart!'' until it actually happens to you
Yep
I'm pretty sure I'm behind you, I had to stop after I unlocked ||Character switching||

Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age are coming to #NintendoSwitch for #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion Pack members on 1/17!
FINALLY
I don't believe Nintendo has the talent to properly remaster the game, so it's good they're just emulating it with enhancements
Took them long enough
Yeah, I would be skeptical of any remastering effort, unfortunately
Itās possible, but damn it would be easy to get wrong
Nintendo absolutely has the capabilities to properly do great remasters, they just don't
The audio system alone for Golden Sun is innovative genius
It's not an ordinary game
I aspire to make a game that sounds half as good as Golden Sun did
Nintendo can do great remasters for a lot of games but not Golden Sun
Itās such a strong source of inspiration for me
They did Metroid Prime Remastered perfectly and managed to improve upon it, against all odds.
Golden Sun would require⦠a deft touch.
I wonder if they did something for carrying saves between games
Looks like that's probably gonna be emulated and not re-released as a remaster
Ohhhh good question
I doubt it
Yeah this is emulated
GBA virtual console
The code system is a lot of fun but cumbersome. I would love to still have it, but having an additional system to carry saves would be nice too
GS is a second-party game anyway (developed by Camelot)
I think this emulated release is a strong sign that theyāll never remaster it
So it would rather more depend on what the developers in Camelot doing
Yeah
Didnāt Camelot collapse?
Camelot can't make a golden sun anymore
Camelot makes the Mario sports games
Ahh
most recently Mario Golf Super Rush
Yeah, the creator of the series appeared to be interested in doing Golden Sun 4, but the failure of GS3 basically meant that there wasnāt enough market interest available for Camelot to ever greenlight it.

RE0 is not that old, it's just not a particularly good game
RE1-2-3 are older and I never ran into that problem with them
Have you played Zero?
Not entirely
Youtube is generally slow if you want to look up a guide
A picture or a searchable body of text tends to be faster
Good idea
If I will play next time and really don't know i will look it up but I don't want to
I try not to, but if I find myself in a spot where I particularly don't even know where to even start I will because moving forward is more valuable to me than being able to say ''I did it on my own''
that being said there's no secret to progressing in a resident evil game, it's always generally just fetching key items from the places where you're able to go so you can access the areas you can't go to, so everytime you're lost all you have to do is check your map and see where you haven't yet gone to and see if you have the means to get there now
"where do I go next" happens to various degrees in all sorts of games, it's kinda inevitable if you want any of the game's challenge to be figuring out where to go next
and survival horror usually does
for all of RE0's problems I thought its level design was pretty solid; I never stayed lost for very long after I'd cleared the enemies and could study the map in peace
Big or home
I want to say every RE before 4 is pretty good about letting you know where to go next, you either just have to think about what options you have or maybe you missed the one room that has the one key item that allows you to progress and snowball from there
RE3 is interesting in the sense that this is less of a constant and more of a variable because that game has loads of different routes with completely different interactions/outcomes and different items and it already has a built-in randomizer for the enemies and items so even though it follows the same rules level design wise as RE1 and 2 it has that twist
i kinda wanna get it just for bloodstained, bayonetta and having borderlands on steam instead of epic
It's an okay bundle
Oh wow, that's pretty cool! Considering that the Prince of Persia games of the past have had mixed reception at best, this is definitely a triumph for the devs.
The only criticism itās getting is you need a Ubisoft account in order to play or it just puts you back to the main menu.
Ew...
Why not just log in
yeahhhhh we talked about the always online DRM
#1032716748887179434 message
and no turning off your wifi doesn't make it any less shitty
I PAY FOR PRODUCT
GIVE ME PRODUCT
THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO DO.
this would've been a must-play for me, but I think we've finally hit a case where always-online DRM directly affects me and I am morally obligated to not buy this
anyway PoP: The Sands of Time is a must-play classic, and the PoP (2008) reboot is highly underrated
Oh neat, they do seem to have a demo of it for pc too. Thought it was just consoles
If I played on a handheld I would not like always online too
oh wow, I'm farther into AW2 than I thought
Jeez
ok so hear me out
it's almost like
3 of those 4 games aren't skitter boxes filled with microtransactions and battle passes being pushed on an exploitable audiance of children, or something
What

Adults play too
An operant conditioning chamber (also known as a Skinner box) is a laboratory apparatus used to study animal behavior. The operant conditioning chamber was created by B. F. Skinner while he was a graduate student at Harvard University. The chamber can be used to study both operant conditioning and classical conditioning.Skinner created the opera...
Which is like most of the people who play
Microtransactions in games are fine as long as they're optional cosmetics only and don't give an advantage or are pay to win
And as long as they aren't lootboxes
and you know
don't exploit fomo and famous properties in order to make money from children
but ehhh i guess that's just something we disagree on
The collabs aren't them exploiting properties
It's them literally trying to make the oasis from ready player one
The cosmetics in general are meant to be for the teens and adults with jobs
Yknow
The ones with disposable income
Agree to disagree.
@fresh bane @visual hill
Resident Evil 2 has been remaked in the Source engine.
Its the full game complete with puzzles
@mossy flume
Did you not do any side stuff/collecting or did you just finish it all that fast?
Damn RE2 getting all the love, there was another first person project a little while ago too
Ixrec usually focuses on the main story
ixrec is the antithesis of bringi then
I'm not going for 100% but I have gotten a lot of the side stuff
There's really not any side content in the scale of a rpg here or anything, it's a survival horror so any side stuff is just mostly collecting and getting upgrades
where i do every side content under the sun n have to be dragged into main story kickin n screamin
(this is problematic when its mmorpg
)
here's my current map for Alan's story (after finding ||I think every Tim map showing collectibles||), to give some idea how much I am and am not picking up
And exploring whenever you get the chance to be in town with all the people there, loads of fun stuff and dialogues to explore especially with any characters from before
If you're already about to finish might as well just catch em all
At least that's what I'd do of course, not that it's that important
there's a few I've tried to find and couldn't despite the map marker
There's a lot of fun boxes to find, don't know if any are locked in an area or section but I think this game follows classic RE rules where you're free to return anywhere
but I probably will try to find all the stuff I know about
And words of power too of course, dunno how many of those you've found
It's great isn't it
A couple of those boxes expect you to whip out pen and paper to solve math problems
|| and then the members of the cult writing inside are like "seriously stop it with the damn math just give me a code" ||
I love it when the people writing notes complain about their own puzzles
"Why does Spencer need all these keys?!
"
I solved that one in my head just to see if I could
What's the problem?
lucked out that it was a system of equations where you could cancel out one of the variables before doing any real arithmetic
I tried to because it's the type of math I did during my last years of school and that's still fresh on my mind, but I just couldn't
Not even writing it down I just gave up
But I appreciate the commitment to just having those at all, very old school style puzzle
And the openness of it all what with its an open map but it's still a Mansion-type map where you can go anywhere and you unlock other stuff later on and such rather than RE4 style linearity
I appreciate it
Actually nevermind, I don't want to try

The one I'm talking about is finding out the total number of wheels I think by knowing how many bikes and cars are in a garage
Something along those lines
It's probably a basic school math problem but as always all math knowledge I ever had is gone now

||177 cars, 23 bikes?||
That checks out, but it can be a lot of other things too.
Yar, could be any number of combinations as they don't go into further detail. But that's the one that first came to mind as a solution
is Alan Wake 2 the one that's kind of like Twin Peaks
Right, so each bike just reduces the number of wheels by 2.
huh, I thought this one had a guaranteed unique solution
So this is ||Difference from 800 divided by two.||
b + c = 200
2b + 4c = 754
b + 2c = 754/2
(b + 2c) - (b + c) = (754/2) - 200
c = 754/2 - 200
That sounds like a lot of work
what the fuck
that's what I did in my head to realize I could "just" do 754/2 - 200 and have the answer
I just did || 800 -754, and divided the 46 by 2 to find 23 bikes||
Yeah the above solution looks like my code
Oh god. The game making you do math
I saw a different puzzle which took matrix algebra
hides his sorceress
I think they have multiple solutions
Or... About as many solutions as you can do with math
No this is a baby level question
I mean, it's a system of 2 equations with 2 variables, that automatically means it has a unique solution
Wait, so all this time Diablo was about Washington state?
no it isn't
also this is the only puzzle in the game like this
i dont wanna think about math
all the others are something else, they're good at variety
that's good
There's at least one more other math box
and this is one of the ones that came with a "wtf, why is that the clue? just use a key!" joke
But I don't think it's as complicated
Me getting the blow torch hidden in the cult base roof
cant Alan just fucking write into existence a skeleton key that he can use on everything
yeah as systems of equations go this is extremely simple, there's loads of ways people could guess-solve it without actually "knowing math", much less proving there's a unique answer
that's not how it works
It's spoilers
But basically his writing has to go through an editor of sorts, he can't just write anything because it's likely it'll get edited in some way so he has to adhere to rules
Pretty much
ngl i know nothing about alan wake at all
had no idea who he was before he was added to fort lol
I still need to finish Control which I should have on GOG with my last saves from.... 2019-ish?
I remember talking about Control here
i would love to play Control
Should be somewhere in my log of messages
someday
I get the feeling everyone's heard of Control
Control's great. Though the.. xpac? DLC's? last boss i didn't finish. Was just too many one shot mechanics or something
and Alan Wake was comparatively obscure until the sequel came out
Uuuuuuuhhh well I wouldn't say everyond
everyone who plays these kinds of games lol
But it definitely seems to have been bigger than Alan Wake
(and tbf Control was better than AW1)
i know the main location in Control is partially inspired by House of Leaves which makes me interested
What the fuck is Control
yeah i have no idea what control is either lol
I feel like horror fans specifically always knew about Alan, I mean sure a lot of newcomers have begun their journey with Alan Wake 2 but I want to say a majority of people expecting this were previous Alan Wake fans
Me included
it's like SCP and House of Leaves got hitched
Control is the next game from Remedy, releasing August 27 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
That sounds either horrible or great or somewhere in between horrible and great
It's actually great
from what ive heard it's great
Well Control is fantastic
it was very good yes
Knew it
I haven't personally played Control but I watched an LP back when it was new, and then one of the DLC when that came out
It does a fantastic job with the vibes
I'll keep it in the back of my mind, thanks team
pretty sure at the time it was one of the year's big AAA games and a standard GotY nominee and everyone who'd ever heard of SCP was making that comparison and all that jazz
And gameplay's pretty damn fun too. Once you got some powers/gun stuff boosted and find a combo that works for you, you feel like a god
Not just the vibes but I think the gameplay is incredible I remember having a lot of fun with it, probably gonna jump back on it when I'm done with Ruined King

even the ashtray maze lived up to the hype
Also before I forget make sure you say when you finish aw2 so I can mention something you may or may not be aware of that it's probably better I say after
Just in case

Be careful what you say because I might play Alan Wake II at some point before 2035
Remedy also made Quantum Break before that. In retrospect, it feels like they were cutting their teeth on this in preparation for Control
Unplayable š¤š¤
I played Control last year

it's a big raytracing and HDR showcase with the HDR mod
I actually don't quite remember how good the game looked but I remember it looked really good and ran good enough on my bad low spec computer when I was starting it
Definitely focuses on having a strong visual style more, just like with aw2 which is another reason why I love that game
Lots of trippy surreal visuals

Of course I played it on the lowest of low settings at 800x600...

Interesting find, even though to Valve, money is effectively infinite.

I don't think it's locked behind anything just easy to miss
Its time for anotherās layoff already
Mmhm, loads of layoffs everywhere recently
Tech industry bubble popped
Control is awesome, you peeps need to play it
Been meaning too
Fifa ultimate team is a skinner box, a lot worse than Fortnite morally and also aimed at kids, and you could make a solid argument for GTA Online
Even that that's less a clear cut than Fifa
(that's what EA FC sports is, it's the new name for Fifa)
Also Roblox isn't just as bad, Roblox is literally indirectly profiting from child labour
Interesting video about it

fort's monetization is tame compared to most other games with microtransactions
there is way worse
cough apex legends's 360 dollar deathbox cough
plus with the "fomo" stuff in the battle pass like
they literally tell you exactly how long you have till the season ends
you get plenty of xp just from playing casually that you're able to unlock everything
plus XP from creative, etc
and quests and stuff
Yeah but it's still bad.
Not as bad as other games but bad
and its only 9 dollars for the battle pass itself
100+ items just from casually playing throughout the season and stuff
im already level 155 and the season ends in march
You know what would make me happy about it?
If they made it so you get the cosmetics even if you don't finish it at the end of the season
Keep the currency for people who actually played through it but it sounds really shitty to not recieved content you paid for.
The reward for getting there before the end of the season is using those cosmetics earlier.
the halo infinite model
I watched it, I was stunned, literally child labout in XXI century
Halo Infite is even better
you only get the rewards that you reach the level for
you get out of it what you put in
dont put in the effort to level up, you shouldnt get those items
seems pretty fair to me
Yeah that is fomo, it pushes you to play to grind it out it's a shitty pratice and the industry should do away with it
Is there any way to ever actually convince you that some of these things are exploitative, or will you forever defend it to death?
you dont have to "grind" though
i play casually and im still high enough up
It's not the worst thing in the industry, but it's fine to still think it's bad.
ive never had an issue with it
ive been able to reach 200 like pretty much every season
It extremely depends on the game though. Some of them have rather slow level up process, and a short season to boot. Making it so that if you don't exclusively play that game and only that game and nothing else, you'll miss out
It's literally your main game, you playing casually is probably less than what most people put in most games time wise, if you average it out
Not being able to get stuff afterwards because they artificially limit it to that season only feels disgusting if you add that on top of it
I wouldn't be surprised if you polled and discovered most passes weren't completed by the end of it
the seasons themselves are usually like 3-4 months long
so you got plenty of time to actually play and level up
and they release a skin bundle in the shop the last like month of every season that gives 28 levels just from collecting tokens around the map
I just said it depends on the game
That's another thing entirely and I am of two minds about it.
It's kind of cool to have rewards that says "is was there back then" and my MMO brain won't allow me to completely let that go.
Let me toss this to you then Gen:
i can somewhat get being upset by missing certain collabs due to them being in battle passes, but like yeah
should have been playing back then lol
WOW recently has implemented a "trading post", where you can do a series of small fairly easy tasks and get a currency (that cannot be bought with real money). You can get a bunch of random cosmetics, some new, some old. For example, mounts that used to only be available from the card game that existed in... 2008? Ish? And have been impossible to get since outside of, yknow, buying those scratch cards
What's your take on that?
Sounds like Fortnite
It's nice for the people that want those mounts, but at the same time those mounts will become a bit less cool to spot in game.
How?
There is a sacrifice in that
like people will sit there and hate on the game up until they add a character they like, then all of a sudden they get into the game later on, and then get upset that they didnt play when that character was added
like yeah thats on them for not getting into the game back when that collab was available
I can't remember which mount it is from cards, might be pet actually. But a more concrete example I just remembered: the mount that came with the deluxe/CE version of diablo 3 was made available on there as well
So that's like... 12+ years of exclusivity of the mount, now available to more
To be fair, the game is basically done, at that point it makes sense to let you have whatever
In D3 I mean
There is less of a tradeoff
It wasn't a mount you could get after that point either, I think. Was time limited
Like in ffxiv, well they do a lot of things in questionable ways on the cash shop, regardless of that there are two mounts unique to those that qualified for the legacy program for having played the game in 1.0
Those mounts have an inherent prestige that would diminish if you could just get them.
It's still technically a FOMO, as the trading post cycles what's available monthly. Stuff can come back but so far it hasn't been the big ticket items like mounts that have come back
That is a bit of a special case I will admit
Is that not precisely what fomo is?
i never said it wasnt fomo
did you all just No True Scotsman each other while I was playing my game lol
my point was that people will literally hate on the game, up until after a character they like is no longer able to be gotten
like sucks for them for not getting into the game during the 3-4 months that the character was available
should have been there playing at the time
That's the point, that's bad
Not the people that hate on a game until the one thing they like is added, those people are hypocrites, but the whole ''guess you should've been there'' thing is bad
i dont really see it as bad
That's a problem, I feel
in general I think it's fine for a multiplayer game to have some unique "missable" items that become unobtainable later... but the key word there is some
when it becomes a core tenet of the business model to generate an endless stream of unobtainable-after-[date] items, then it's just exploiting FOMO in the pejorative sense
Yeah that sounds fair
Yeah if Peter Griffin is missable, that's where I draw the line
I know MMOs tend to have these sorts of things, but they usually tend to be items intentionally designed to be rare, obtainable during an event, or some type of 'badge' or something that signifies you participated in a certain event, that translates to a lot of other online games too not just MMOs
But if your entire game is based around that, I feel like it's a problem
I'm glad you agree š¤
at least for missable Manechat roles, I think Gen has us all beat
A lot of this is where we all personally draw the line.
There is also always the difference between paid product and F2P, and for me it does influence where the line of acceptable is.
I wonder what y'all are planning for the 10th anniversary?
Fire
im still surprised peter and solid snake were both in the same bp
like especially since peter does kinda overshadow snake sadly
ah, yes, "planning"
If you have the Peter fortnite skin you're probably cool as fuck
bird is the word emote too lol
I'm here too
im still hoping they do quagmire and lois and stuff as skins
have stewie as a backbling/pet for lois

No l4d2 channel so I'll say it here
The chernobyl map in l4d2 is probably one of the coolest maps I have ever played in the game
If anyone plays trackmania, I'd love to see my pony friends on leaderboards (dedimania etc). I've always had the brohoof on my name (in pic) for the past few years (since 2016-ish) and I've never had any negative remarks about it, so I think it's fairly safe to put in your name. (I've gotten more attention just from me being American but that's still a very rare thing that gets pointed out.) You can put it on in any of the games that lets you do it and in whatever color you want. Even two-tone if you wish
I play mostly LOL/shorts/tech but am perfectly fine with almost everything except trial, kacky/lunatic, maybe more difficult fullspeed... I don't have the attention span for those right now. If you run into me, don't be afraid to say hi
I might be quiet sometimes though, because I'm busy trying to get a better time. It happens to all of us.
Nobody told me about this parallel universe...

there are Metroids and Castlevanias that you would not apply the Metroidvania tag too
#AW2: god I love metatextual nonsense
What a dumb question
in context, it's a very legitimate concern
I just had a realization... With CS2... Are maps in other source games getting textures from CSGO going to still work..
oh wow, they actually made the film within a game and are letting me sit here watch it all
"I'm my own deus ex machina? Really?"
I used to play TM a lot but haven't got much time lately (and TM2020 breaks all the time on Linux)
textures are copied over, so yes. You don't need to install CS:GO to play those games

You could just cheat
i mean yeah, i have no obligation to play within the rules
buttt this is still working in the confines of the game, as far as I know, the codes I used were made by Gearbox themselves
WHAT IS THIS
what do you think lol
oh you mean like the in-universe lore
||the immediate answer is it's a completely normal small town festival, the fanciest it gets is building half a dozen floats which have paper-mache deer and the like||
||at this particular point in the story though, the real Deerfest was cancelled because of all the shooting and dying and paranormal nonsense going on, but... reality is being fiddled with by multiple characters in multiple directions, so a subtly twisted version of the festival becomes a setpiece at one point||
just finished the credits
ok cool
My l4d1 characters are anime maids
thats twilight, not sunny starscout
still wrong
Played through a ton of amazing l4d2 campagins today
(Not the blahaj medpacks tho
those are based)
Best one was a disney land one. Journey to splash mountain I believe it was called
You literally get to ride on splash mountain while killing zombies like a shooting gallery
Had a spitter at the end of the last drop
Easily surpasses dark canival as a favourite for me
Time to Kill was also very cool, had a bunch of portals and time travel.
didn't feel lore friendly though
Chernobyl is also another very cool one with an awesome feel to the map. Each level is quite long between safe rooms though.
Also the classic Back to School, was quite nice
I want to do tank runs in them
pff yes
Oof. Spoilered myself on a cyberpunk 2077 ending because I don't plan on making that choice in Phantom Liberty. ||choosing to get the surgery from them instead. Seeing the ending properly rather than just reading abuot it. Depressing one D: ||
Oh also played Dark Carnival remix. A nice new version of dark carnival. Stadium end was awesome, made you do more during the fight. And the speakers catch on fire
And no more endless hoard to get to a safe room
Some custom campagins you gotta play without other mods I have found though, otherwise it crashes or has stuff like invisible tanks, when they add their own custom enemies
I think the disney land one especially was insane to me, because I have been to disney land about 10 years ago, and seeing the rides I have been on in the game is awesome, in the exact way I remember it in my head. I'm sure it is far from being a 1:1 creation but it may as well be the real thing with a memory going on 10 years.

Of course! Full actual short film
Well you get back in there nerd because new game plus is technically continuing the story
|| it's not a loop, it's a spiral ||
I actually did click on that just to see if it was NG+ or something else
so my plan was to reload my point-of-no-return save and look for some of the collectibles in areas I never checked before
but should I be doing NG+ instead? how different is it?
You should play Quantum Break. They made 4 40 minute episodes that tie in with the game directly
(I think it was 40 min, at least)
I was aware of that but back when QB was new everyone said it wasn't that good
I mean this isn't the first game with some non-game media attached to it, it's just one of the few cases where I found it and cared
Eh, I wouldn't say it wasn't good? I played it before I played Control at least, and Control is obviously miles better. But I had fun playing it
So, there are differences, and I think there's some new collectables too, plus an extended ending, but it's not a full rehaul of course
It's not a full remix of the entire game because that'd be insane but it does have some new stuff, depends on you if you feel like it'd be worth putting the time to experience those or just look them up if you're curious and into the story
I watched the opening cutscene since Alan's monologue was pretty different
Just saying because even though there's different stuff it's still a new game so you're gonna be putting the same amount of hours in
yeah I don't think I'm up for a full second playthrough
it's pretty rare that I do that
I think by now people have documented most of the differences so you can probably find them
And the ending
And now.... We wait for Control 2
it's feeling increasingly odd now that I never played Control, only watched an LP of it
maybe if a sequel comes out I'll play both, I've forgotten enough details
If you find it on sale I'd probably recommend considering getting it, even if you watched all of it playing it feels different and it feels really good to just play it and have fun with it
I'm probably gonna get back on it because I actually never even finished it, I left it off... I don't even know at what point in the game
Lmao who needs balance
Because that'll keep people invested in the game.
"You know what needs to be done? HOMOGIZING THE GAME!"
In the meantime, wait for a sale and get Quantum Break!
in fairness I feel like health regen should be a basic part of most games
It's on my to play list because Xbox made it or something
there's nothing more annoying than surviving a fight in zelda with a quarter heart only to have to listen to the 'you're dying' music' constantly because you can't find anything to heal with
Kingdom Hearts
Instead it's not music it's wake up alarm
as much as health regen got overused for a bit after Halo, I think the modern standard of red around the screen and partial or no regen by default is a good one for most games
AW2 for instance has health regen by default... if you can reach a bright light, which is the right balance for that kind of survival horror
it really depends on the game
It was made by the same studio that later made Control. But yeah it's actually on Game Pass too
Healing should involve eating one apple per point of damage you've taken like God intended
the usual problem with medkits in older shooters is that they lead to a cycle of actually have fun shooting stuff -> oh my health is low -> 10 minutes retracing the first half of the level looking for health, which I'm glad is no longer the default
the two games im thinking of are Doom and Zelda
of course the modern Doom approach of putting medkits inside the enemies is another good answer
yeah that's why glory kills- yeah exactly
but that won't work for every game, in particular it's not the best fit for survival horror
Looking at you, half life health stations...
enemies dropping health powerups is a good approach
I did like L4D's approach of having you carry medical gear and then use it when you need it. Feeds the feeling of scarcity.
"PILLS HERE!" š
specifically, health-dropping enemies is a good solution if it's the kind of game where there is always another enemy and the player can always be expected to successfully find and kill it
which Doom is
What if I start playing when you start playing
I like low-health warnings, but they should just stop playing eventually
Rise of the Triad almost got it right back in 1994
I guess BotW/TotK get away with a noise because you usually have a hundred hearts of food in your pocket during those games (which to me feels like regen with extra steps but oh well)
I can't recall actually getting stuck in the "low health noise won't shut up" situation since KH1
i dont really mind any low health sound because i dont play games with sound
most of the time im watching youtube or a tv show while playing games
I already finished it ages ago š
Why do you want to buy it then??
...Look at who I'm responding to. I'm suggesting it to Ixrec š
https://youtu.be/uHxTQKW7L_0?si=Lc-PcNSgnuGNQFV8 I just watched this and all it did was remind me just how much graphics do not matter for a game

new ratlobber
finally finished Arkham Knight
Obsessing over a game's graphics and performance is stupid honestly. I just want to enjoy the damn games now in the free time I finally get after 4 years.
Did Batman win?
kinda
idk if im gonna do the Riddler trophies or not
it seems like a lot
to get the true ending i have to get all of them
but i might just look it up
Yeah you can get the true ending online
Could go back to dark souls
to me, what matters in a game graphics-wise is consistency and readability. Which is to say, the graphics make it so that I know what's happening in the game.
:perhapscow:
like, I don't need "hyper-realistic" medpacks. But they should look about as realistic as the rest of the game, while also standing out in some way so that they're an obvious powerup.
This is why pong's graphics have never been bested
maybe i'll play Skyrim
AW2 looks pretty great overall, but what I was positively surprised by the most is the quality of NPC animations outside of cutscenes, not by any of the stuff that a bleeding edge GPU might improve
I've noticed survival horror benefits more from high-fidelity realistic graphics than a lot of genres, because those games tend to walk a tightrope of giving you enough information to make decisions, punishing enough that the decisions always matter, but also just unpredictable enough that you can never be completely sure your decisions were optimal
it's much easier to be confident that the game is doing that on purpose when the thing you're seeing twitch erratically is an otherwise super hi-rez humanoid
i would enjoy ragdolling the common infected
and while I don't really care either way about the realism thing, i like there being the option for people who want a more grounded experience without having to rely on Realism mode by itself.
It varies a lot, but overall the quality of their animations and especially the facial animations and expressions are wild, I've noticed they're particularly insanely good on one specific character for some reason
The seamless transitions between either the live action footage segments or the pre rendered cutscenes into gameplay is also really well done
during Initiation 1 I was briefly unsure if it was live action, they got the two styles to look so similar
:flutternod: it's great
It's pretty crazy how much you can mod L4D2, I've seen similar mods of this manner for Gmod too
That said I don't think I will ever understand this obsession and the craze for super tacti-cool realistic presentation in games, I saw the final result of that mod video and thought it was impressive how much customization you can get away with but I also thought it made the game look way more forgettable and boring to me
I've noticed I have a particular gripe about how common it's been to animate guns ''realistically'' in fps, seems like people really love those types of animations but to me it makes every game look like the same one
at least for me, a lot of graphical technology only becomes interesting when more artistic uses are found to make "unrealistic" game worlds more immersive
It makes me appreciate Valve's more stylistic and simple approach to animating weapons more
dynamic lighting, for example, is desirable in almost any art style, though it wasn't practical for a long time
I do appreciate weapon animations being... plausible? like, making sense with the basic construction of the weapon, but of course I also think if you don't make up any fictional weapons you're missing half the fun
there are also certain aspects of real weapon reloads that are just satisfying to include in fiction anyway, like the way bolt action rifles reload (if your game balance wants slower reloading rifles), or the way Garands go ping
It's not even about that necessarily, there's just a very very specific and certain weightiness and rhythm to these types of 'realistic' fps animations that gets recreated a lot and seems to be very popular, there's entire channels dedicated to it with animators that specifically dedicate to this one thing
Disclaimer: I animate this only as a fan of a franchise that I once worked on. There is nothing else to read into.
The Flatline was my favorite Titanfall 2 weapon that I never got to animate, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Models - Titanfall 2
Sounds - Titanfall 2...
an example
i totally agree
been workin on this on and off for the past months just because, and then I just realized. TF2 Have a birthday!!
so, being one of the best games I've ever played, and the content i've played around with since the first time my channel was up, I thought, why not use this for celebration? and here it is,
Some of the guns reanimation !
Happy a d...
where's that video of silly reload animations for random objects
i like those ones where they reload toilet paper holders
I think I've seen a few of those but I think they're people reloading random objects IRL
That Hyper channel has a few of those types of videos I believe but they're silly reload animations with guns not random objects
https://youtu.be/9WasgRxx6r4?si=nF31mcgsDifMK0oN
The ''fad'' nowadays is to make every FPS shooter have that same presentation as that one bodycam game that came out and people were losing their minds over how real it looks!1111
Super Shotgun from Doom 2 is the best reload animation
I've always wanted to see a ''big'' game that kind of goes for that eurojank vision when making a game, don't worry about having cutting edge visuals in fact if necessary downgrade your visuals bonus points if you're actually going for a particular style like n64 era visuals, so that instead you can focus on making your game as dynamic, interactive, in-depth as possible
I want to play a game where I feel like the possibilities of interaction between my character and the world are infinite but it looks like morrowind
for now all the pixel art indies are good enough for me
I also definitely think like that a lot more now because as it turns out if you want your game to keep up with the latest of visuals then apparently that shoots up the budget way up into the stratosphere!
And I honestly don't care that much about seeing all the pores in my characters' skin if it means most of the budget went into making the game just look good
instead spend it on having a pop song after each chapter and a random Finnish horror movie in the middle
One thing I never see any of these reload animations do, official or fanmade, is tapping the bottom of the magazine to make sure it's fully seated. It's a crucial step that could actually mean life or death in combat, and nobody ever animates it.
You always see the insert but never see them check.
In reality an insert often isn't enough
I think I remember some animations maybe from Counter Strike where that's done, I think
I will say even though I don't care about any of that stuff, I do find it cool that whenever switching weapons in RE: Revelations 2 the character will check their weapons when switching, if you're switching to a handgun the character will slide it back to check if it's loaded and then go into their normal stance
Also, a faster method instead of ripping out the magazine is to press the magazine release button (if there is one, which there usually is) and simply jerk-flip the gun, ejecting the magazine faster and allowing your free hand an extra second or two to get a new magazine to reload.
I suppose it depends for the game and also you'd need to take into account gameplay mechanics
I remember a detail in RE8 was that Ethan would not just throw away the magazine but instead he would let it fall into his hand, have another mag ready to go, put it in and put the other one away instead of throwing it away
Which kind of makes sense in a survival horror setting
I want to say that, for me, I had the same type of obsession with reloading animations but with RE4
Say what you want about feeling like the stand still and shoot style tank controls are limiting, but it allowed for some cool stuff like showing off those stylish animations
In the remake they're severely toned down, because of course, and I get why
also tying back to the whole visuals/graphic discussion I'd be completely fine if graphics plateau'd at that Gamecube era late PS2 style visuals, I still think games like RE1R, RE4 and SH3 are incredible looking games that hold up to this day and I'd be fine if games stayed looking like that personally
especially if it allowed for the game itself to be better rather than allocating time and money into making it look as true to life as possible
This sort of thing does make sense in the context of the setting, but in real life would be very unwieldy unless you have some great ambidexterity, which most people don't.
To be fair most people probably don't even know how to shoot a gun
Also true
I'd probably clumsily drop both mags, try to pick them up, and shoot myself in the face
To this day it makes me visibly CRINGE when I see people in movies, shows, and IRL have their finger on the trigger when reloading or when they aren't facing down-range.
I shot three bullets
Trigger discipline is something every gun owner needs to learn, and 90% of the gun nuts in the world don't know what it is.
I'm not gonna say I disagree but I also think that starts to fall into nitpicky territory for the people who know how things properly work, the kind of thing that bothers you but other people probably don't even register
It's not nitpicky, it's a necessary safety measure.
Just like I probably don't see any glaring issues with fighting coreographies but any experienced fighter seeing any fight occur on film would probably be ripping out their own hair
And I was putting bullets into the magazine but it was super hard
You do NOT put your finger on the trigger of a gun, loaded or unloaded, unless you're actually aiming it at something that you intend to shoot.
So many people have died because they didn't follow this simple rule.
It's not a nitpick, it's a hard truth that all gun owners and enthusiasts NEED to understand, respect, and follow.
I'm not saying trigger discipline is a nitpick I'm just talking about the portrayal of these things in film or media in general
It's stuff that people unfamiliar with these things probably don't even register as they probably never have or will shoot a gun
I do think they should be properly portrayed
I think RE4R does it pretty well generally, there's even dynamic sets of animations where Leon does the center axis thing if enemies he's aiming at are too close
Yeah, you should try to hit the center of mass if you're actually trying to kill an opponent, but in movies, shows, and games they always go for headshots because they look way cooler. And yeah, I can understand that for the cinematic feel, so that is a bit of a nitpick, because it's still very likely that you're gonna kill the person whether you shoot them in the chest or the head, but the reasoning for aiming at the center of mass is that you have a much bigger target, so the chances of you missing are far less.
I'm very familiar with trigger discipline but I only nitpick it if I see a character who should've been trained better mess it up
Which I see far too often in military movies
a lot of these survival horror games have protagonists who aren't meant to be firearms experts just trying not to die
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
I'm talking about gun enthusiasts when I'm talking about trigger discipline.
So many of them should know better but don't.
Even some soldiers too
I think it makes sense for reloading but I'm not gonna complain if a character always has their finger on the trigger on a game, most of the times these characters are in zones where there's active threats so that makes sense
Would it be cool if it had some sort of dynamic animation system like that? Absolutely, but that wraps back to the whole "I want games to have more depth in exchange of not being able to see all the pores on my characters skin" argument from earlier
I have been to a firing range and used a real gun before, which included the loading part
Wasn't hard at all
ive handled a gun once before
I wouldn't call it "hard", though you don't expect it to require as firm a push as it does to get them in there
it was alright
You just take the bullet and push the bullet in.
it depends on the magazine, really. National Geographic is okay but if it's vogue you're shit out of luck
this gun's magazine capacity has been reduced from five bullets per clip to four slugs per pellet
No
They don't publish Nat Geo anymore (at least on paper).

Really
Poor slugs
Alan Wake 2 spoilers
|| Dr Darliiing!!
so he had been listening in on Alan going crazy huh ||
wait is this a real guy or a animated guy
|| ''Have we met? You look familiar...'' ''You sound familiar!''
Hah! Cute detail ||
Alan Wake always used a lot of live action footage in their games
Itās very live action
The studio in general loves using live action recordings in their games
Control has some
it's the sentence you use to rile gun enthusiasts up š
people will always point it out in YouTube comments when you use an incorrect term for a gun in some game
Heh, gun enthusiasts are a special level of pedantic that rivals that of programmers
that's so cool
