It's pretty unfortunate that this little indie game born from the cancellation of Fighting is Magic got the attention of fucking EVO and the entire community because it was so good (and it had rollback, something that even the biggest fighting games at the time didn't implement across the board)
and instead of riding the wave they just... dropped the ball
Well, EVO got canned remember?
The game never got a proper debut.
After EVO came back, the game didn't get the same spot.
It doesn't really matter because people were still talking about it, but by the time the next evo happened the game was already on a decline because nothing was happening
a lot more games have rollback now, except Smash Ultimate
SF6 also became a big success that nobody (I think) really expected
It does matter, because the people who are passionate are now playing other games instead of ever being interested.
fighting game players were spoiled for choice in 2023, which didn't help indie fighting games
Once some competition started adopting GGPO, the writing was on the wall over a decline.
that's kind of my point, it's already lost this is just wrapping up instead of trying to save it
No new characters no new content, the roster was already very small by a fighting game standard and the fact that it stayed that way just made it worse and by the time games like FighterZ, GGS, SF6, KOF 15, MK1 etc happened it's game over, that initial wave of interest was completely lost and now people are pointing their attention to the bigger games
Also the usual "who the hell wants to play a pony/furry game?"
Now...I know nothing of the company and very little of the game, that said, to me it sounded like they weren't exactly swimming in cash basically from the get got when i started hearing about it.
My guess is that the promises were too ambitious to keep on the size of the audience they had, especially for how slow they were at developing the game.
That said, I wonder how much dishonestiy there were in the whole thing, how early they knew they couldn't make it on their schedule, and for how long they kept the lid on it.
That's what I'm saying, it doesn't matter that it didn't get a spot in EVO because people were already talking about it at the time, but it never went anywhere and by the time the next one happened people were already not paying attention to it
That didn't happen as much as you'd think, the fact that it was a pony/furry game is part of why people were so interested on it, it's not a thing you see on a fighting game too much
People were talking about it because they shown interested to see what it was.
People were interested in the mechanics of non-human fighters battling
Regardless if EVO happened or not, they didn't do much and remained quiet for many months.
If the game is good enough I'm pretty sure that EAW shown that it doesn't really matter if it's pony, people will play it.
That said it's true that fighting games have a lot more competition for games
Especially games that cater to enthusiasts
I think it sucks that TFH was making me like fighting games, but stopped playing after nothing new came out for months.
Whether it's good or not wasn't the problem, the game was good and that's why people were praising the game in the fighting game community, the problem is they did nothing with it, and fighting games that get practically no updates or content at all die very quickly
Now I just don't want to play fighting games.
isn't EAW a mod?
yeah
Yes but also, it's literally the biggest mod for that game
Most people that play it aren't even pony fans
I see
I really think many kickstarters like this just underestimate how much it costs to fulfil promises
I was listening to this podcast from Brandon Sanderson and he was talking about this a bit. Last year he did a 44 million kickstarter but he made the point that he doesn't necessarily get all that money since fulfilling the rewards was actually pretty expensive. Obviously, TFH doesn't need to rent a warehouse, but it wouldn't surprise me if the funds ran out
Games kickstarters running out of money aren't unique I'd say
YogVentures moment
Well very few of the Kickstarter rewards were actually fulfilled
Sanderson understands all this because he once ate a business book and completely groked it
That's another point of frustration among the community
Is that not only did they not fulfill the development promises, but the backer rewards too
tbh, given that supreme commander never made a dime I sort of wonder if many games just never turn a profit even when they make money
Wasn't that game GFWL?
supreme commander?
Because holy crap that thing made people angy.
GFWL?
uh
DRM system.
Good Fries With Lettuce
GLFW was pretty bad, I remember it being on Fallout 3
SupCom's biggest problem was balance and it pushing the computer too hard
oh so it was
yep
but I honestly don't remember that being an issue anyone cared about lol
GFWL was so freaking terrible.
On top that it forced you to pay for Xbox Live Gold (for MP), its DLC management and account creation was bothersome.
Also required updates, online checks...
It might have been but Games from Windows isn't the same thing as Games for Windows Live
Sometimes it had it even if it didn't support Live features.
Because this was the Windows Vista era.
Fable 1 had it and it sucked
Later down Vista's life, this stuff was toned down.
it's not listed as such
Wikipedia tells me Supreme Commander wasn't on GFWL
anyway
my point being that SupCom was pretty heavily promoted and then it just never made any money
I distinctly remember Fallout 3, Fucking Dark souls, and RE5
Of the games I played
I have EE3 and Halo 2.
Ah so it was unfortunate to get the hated cover.
Empire Earth 3 has the hated cover too, but no GFWL.
It's kinda hard to guess which game has which, but I guess Wikipedia has a page for it.
I'm pretty sure that cover was just the standard pc game cover for like, 6/7 years
At least the ones published under Microsoft label to PC
Physical media was already in steep decline on PC when that was a thing anyway
So a lot games never bothered getting physical releases
It was pretty much the equivalent of the box with the PS or XboX logo on top
The guy who made the moon blog post made R* mad
Apparently some of the OG's there are upset by my blog. I genuinely didn't think anyone would mind me talking about 20 year old games but I was wrong. Something about ruining the Rockstar mystique or something.
Anyway,
This blog isn't important enough to me to piss off my former colleagues in Edinburgh so I'm winding it down.
I'll maybe just leave a few articles with anecdotes that don't affect anyone but me.
I would love for Rockstar to open up about development of the trilogy themselves, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.
Maybe I'll try again in a decade or two.
Till then, Obbe.```
Hopefully someone already archived the blogs
Yes but he took down some of the posts on his website
That’s actually pretty shit
That speaks to a particularly toxic culture at Rockstar if talking about 20 year old projects pisses people off today
ruining Rockstar mystique
Someone’s quite full of themselves.
yaaaay
thanks kojima san
shouldn't be a surprise
most big development studios are toxic cesspools
Busted

some of the deleted posts are on archive.org if you're curious. They seem to be the posts mentioning other Rockstar employees by name
Yeah. Rockstar is particularly infamous for being a toxic hellhole.
Is this a mod?? Or do you actually get this if the mission is executed flawlessly?
I still admire one of the Rollcage developers for offering a patched version of the original games without ever asking Sony about it. 👀
(it's still up today)
Oh, yeah, you’re not supposed to mention people by name unless you get their permission.
Now that actually makes sense
(Some exceptions apply, like if you’re a publicly well known project lead or something, you should expect people to name you a bunch)
I wonder if they'd have flown under the radar if they used anonymous names instead
If you get an S rank instead of saying ''Snake, what took you so long?'' he will look at the camera and say ''That was perfect''
Probably not because some people were still mentioning and talking about the blogs but the fact that he named people probably gave them more legitimate reason to make him take it all down
lol the balls to comment this on the thread of the dev talking about why he deleted the blogs
I'm playing Crystal Project, and it really feels like what Final Fantasy 1 would be like if it was released today, @graceful bridge

Actually insanely wild what they managed to do on the Gameboy Color with this game
I actually also checked out a gdq speedrun of MG2 which I had never played before and I was blown away seeing just how many core elements of the franchise were already present in that game which is insane to think about for an MSX game from 1990
Oh, I'll have to look into that
I like it a lot!
I tried to play Final Fantasy 1 because I wanted to play all of them but it was a mess or I'm dumb (both are same possible)
And I'm a gaming pony I played milions of games
Final Fantasy 1 is a very old game
I recommend you start with 14, 10, 7, 9 or 8
If you want to play Final Fantasy 1 anyway, play the Gameboy Advance or the Pixel Remaster version
for most people, FF is not a series where it makes sense to "play all of them"
most of the FFs are completely separate in story and setting, not direct sequels of each other; enough changes have been made over the years that now it's easy to take two of them and argue they're not even the same genre, so many players wouldn't even be interested in more than a few of them
(and what Flitter said)
The game boy advance release known as Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls is in my opinion the best way to play Final Fantasy 1 or 2.
i love VII
I never see censored stuff no matter how I tilt my phone
I just saw it in my quote!!!!
Do you think I should play it in that order??
I don't understand
No, do not choose a specific order to play Final Fantasy. Just choose one of these games and play it
When stuff is censored and I touch it I still can't see it, tilting phone helps a bit but I can't make it out
no one's giving you a playing order, this is not a series where a "play order" makes any sense
Flitter's saying those FFs are the best games to consider playing for someone who has never played a FF before
look into some of them and see which one sounds most interesting to you
I played 7 on my phone with razer Kishi but now I have to give up my phone for 3 days to fix it and I don't want to give up my phone a little
Have you guys ever have to do that?
if you're talking about spoiler tags ||like these||, no one used them in this conversation before now; the only markdown Flitter did use just now was monospace formatting like this which doesn't hide or censor anything
No FF4 recommendation? Isn't it one of the best ones supposedly? (whatever that metric means)
yeah i went a whole month without a phone in January
A whole month???
yeah
FF4 is great. My recommendation is for people new to the series who will probably not like old games
Ah right, most people probably would find it to be too old
there are a lot of FFs after all
the only one ive played is VII
Does FF4 not have a ''remake''?
i really like it a lot
it's like if someone asked for a Metroidvania to play, I suggested Ori or Metroid Dread, and someone goes "what about Pseudoregalia?"; yes it's also good but man it is not what I would give to someone who's never tried the genre before
what the fuck is Pseudoregalia
don't worry about it
I'm trying to think about a better example since Pseudoregalia has a lot of amazing 'modern' mechanics
Maybe Super Metroid or Metroid 2 would be better examples but I get what you mean
it also explains absolutely nothing because it can get away with assuming its target audience has played a ton of these kinds of games before
maybe Hollow Knight is a better example? way too punishing for a first foray into this
Pseudoregalia is the Undertale of 3D metroidvanias
but that's hypotheticals into hypotheticals now
3d????????
It's developed in the style of a PS1 or N64 game
FF4 has like thirty remakes and remasters but they don't make it more approachable
You guys are so smart I love this
aw thank you
oh like Puppet Combo or something
you got us talking about games we know way too much about
like, the hypothetical was someone who's never played a Metroidvania before
More like Ocarina of Time
To be fair I actually have no idea about most FF related stuff the only FF games I played were 4 and Crisis Core, not even FF7
But I just so happened to play one of the games related to the convo
VII is good it's just old kind of
around here Flitter runs regular multiworld randomizer events where I usually bring one or more of my favorite metroidvanias with a randomizer mod, and I've even helped the mod devs beta test some of those randomizer mods; so I am very deep into some of these games lol
I think Ixrec, blue pony, Flitter and Yanis are so smart
Do you guys play Pony Pinball?
No
haven't played any form of pinball since... Metroid Prime Pinball on the DS?
we couldn't resist it
I learned this week that the studio that made Prime Pinball no longer exists
It was fun!
Interesting take on how to tell a story
if I wasn't awful at pinball I'd probably have played it more
i play pinball sometimes
of course there's also (unlike MP Pinball) a legit pinball metroidvania game that I've played multiple times because favorite genre go brrrr
there was a Bethesda pinball app i played a while ago
Apparently the studio that made Metroid Prime Pinball was once given a project after the Metroid one to make a new Pokémon Pinball title for the DS, but that got scrapped
This week's DYKG was interesting
top quality software
I don't understand what I'm looking at.
I'm guessing that #x42... part is supposed to be some meaningful text but somehow ended up as this random chunk of hexadecimal?
if not I also have no idea what's wrong with this picture
(I don't think most of us are playing MWIII)

not sure
Target Circle is their rewards program
So you pay for a rewards program?
3 incredible creators
but they have completely different views
would be a mess
Sounds about right.
it's free to join
it's their store loyalty program thing
it's only a 1% back reward, but Circle does sometimes get exclusive offers like $10 off $50 bonuses and whatnot
Oh.
Welp rip.
Can I just also say
Yoko Taro is fucking based
I just cant wait for his next game
If Hideki Kamiya, Kojima and Yoko Taro entered a room at least one of them would be dead by the end
They would not get along at all developing a game together, not only wildly different ideas but also very hard people to work with
Runs fine on Xbox
You don't have to, if you have a good internet you can play in Cloud
Have you ever tried GeForce Now?
No and my previous GeForce account got corrupted somehow, so that's out of the question.
I'd have to make another account.
Well nowadays it's literally no delay and they keep on pushing to make it better it's crazy
Unless you use a Bluetooth controller like a silly person
That's what Stadia, OnLive, and Microsoft have said.
No they didn't Stadia was delay city
My controller is wireless but supports wired.
Use wired on cloud
Just next time
Unfortunately "no delay" is physically impossible
There's a difference but the primary issue is latency between the data center and your computer
Using wired won't help
Less delay on GFN than on consoles which is "almost" no delay
It does just try it
This is straight up wrong
That's what Nvidia said and that's what I experienced
Nvidia lies
wait... less delay doing a network round trip to GeForce Now's servers, than the delay between your controller and your console through the controller cable?
Using wired does not help. I have used cloud based solutions wired and wirelessly, and the delay is large and noticable for both
When it's wired it feels like you're playing locally, when it's not wired it's like wait a second
It does not feel like you're playing locally
Yes!! Please try it!
...that's obviously not possible though
like, I can buy it being fast enough to not matter in practice, for some games
Do I have to make a video I don't want to make a video because all of you can try it if you have a good internet
but sending data a long distance is always going to take at least a little longer than sending the same data a much shorter distance
And you guys are much smarter than me but you could just try
unless wormholes are involved
You do not understand. It is not physically possible. Nothing can travel fast enough to have a good latency. The universe does not allow information to travel this fast.
right, this is clearly a case of misunderstanding because the claim just doesn't make sense
You may as well claim the sun is made of legs
I buy that the additional delay of GFN was small enough to be a non-issue in many cases, but that's very different from claiming it doesn't exist at all
Okay all i know is that if I play cloud on Bluetooth and on wire there is a big difference. And all of you can try it so I don't know
It's true! There is a big difference
also what does it even mean to use a "wired" "cloud" service
the only caveat is if something is fucked up in the short-distance transmission, you can have more noticeable latency there than from the transmission to servers elsewhere
Controller through Bluetooth vs controller on USB-C cable
oh, well, sure, but that's unrelated to the cloud service
I use a wired controller for my non-cloud games
It makes a difference on cloud service if you use Bluetooth or wired that's what I'm saying
more so than it would normally?
Yes much more!
Well a little but much for me
And maybe for you guys too if you play games
I mean I don't have any wireless controllers or cloud games around to test this with
I'm sure there'd be a difference, but I doubt everyone would notice it; some certainly will, just not everyone
I'm just not aware of a reason why input delay for wireless controller + cloud gaming service would be much higher than the delay of the controller plus the delay of the cloud service
(maybe if they were both inconsistent delays, I could see two sources of inconsistency combining to produce a vastly worse experience overall even if average delay is still just a sum)
I was gonna say that the laptop somehow ran Nox, but it gets stuck in a epilepsy disco palace show.
So close.
Not sure if its a byproduct of Windows 11.
What do you play games on?
my PC?
I've already mentioned playing several games yeah
So I think you would like Xbox Wireless Controller
Yeah you can plug it in it's just a name for the new controller
Like Dual Sense and Xbox Wireless Controller
My favorite controller is the PS4 controller for personal reasons
why specifically the "Xbox Wireless Controller" over any other gamepad?
Them's Fightin' Herds reasons 🤭🤭🌟
The Duke was a fun controller
I do not play fighting games
that update seems to not start at all on Linux on my end
I wonder if anyone made detailed patch notes of what actually changed. Does it have widescreen FOV adjustment? HUD scaling? Some fixes for FPS-dependent behavior, like crouching movement speed depending on FPS?
Also, I guess it's not coming to Condition Zero 😦
Because it's dedicated for Windows PC and Xbox
So your buttons always match and everything
Fun is a word for it
that... sounds standard for any gamepad with a USB cable?
oh apparently the one I already have happens to be a "Xbox Wireless Controller"
Hopefully 😆😆🌟
I guess that's just what they call the ones shaped like the Xbox One controller?
Yeah, piece of cake!
I think my previous one was more Xbox 360 shaped but this is what they have now
Kinda but with no like, I don't know how to say it in English, without divots on top and with an additional "share" button
oh that's what this third button in the middle is
The previous one had a different but a similar name
since I always game on PC with other windows up I rarely want screenshots of my whole screen, so those built-in share buttons never made a lot of sense for me personally
Yes for sharing funny moments
the share button can be used by various apps on PC, but the Xbox Game Bar listens to it by default
My friend was like trying to punch a guy today on Halo Infinite Multiplayer and i died and i watched them but they had their backs turned to each other and they were spinning in a circle 😆😆👏🌟
So I press it down and it recorded what happened
apparently my share button also does something, but it popped up an overlay I've never seen before with unfamiliar styling and from a weird part of the screen I've never seen overlays appear from before so my end user instincts are screaming to avoid it at all costs
That must have been the guide button, the glowing one
oh no I meant the share button
What happened when you pressed it on PC?
though the guide button also shows a completely different unfamiliar overlay
I've never pressed these buttons because I have no use for them lol
It's super funny I think but you have to press it quickly it's like a game inside of a game
Try Ctrl+shift+alt+win+L
this goes back to our earlier point about everyone being experts at different things
Yes
there is no reason for these to exist, Microsoft
That's so much on left hand
These are all shortcuts that actually have a dedicated button on Microsoft's keyboard
The keyboard key presses all four modifiers at once, so you only have to press the letter
What does this key look like??
"keyboard key"?
A physical additional button on some Microsoft made keyboards
I'll assume I don't have that
Probably not. I think it replaces one of the modifiers or something?
Me neither but I want to know what it says like the key
Either way, Windows was designed with this key in mind
I know Japanese keyboards have a special key for switching between hiragana, katakana and English letters, but they usually fit that in by making the space bar shorter and keep all the keys we know
(I have to do multiple mouse clicks to switch languages
)
Its such a good idea I think because space is a really big one
can't use Alt + Shift?
that's the shortcut I keep accidentally pressing so I disable it so I don't end up writing "cqlinou"
I've tried the keyboard macros many times but they always either don't work at all, or end up with Windows spontaneously switching languages when I never asked it to, or with it having different languages active in different windows which is a whole other kind of mess
Alt+shift changes language entirely
there's a dialog to configure how it works
It is messy and I hate it but it's also convenient
I've been in that dialog many times, I know exactly what the options are and I have tried them all, none of them were usable in the long run
Works best when you have two languages and no more nor less
yeah, that's my situation, I have AZERTY and QWERTY
But like two languages or two types of alphabet?
For Windows every language is distinct regardless of alphabet
if I had to guess, it's because Japanese comes with this need to switch between hiragana/katakana/english letter modes on top of switching languages, and the system was originally designed to just do the one level of language switching
But English has no polish letters and polish has all English letters so is that why I don't know this?
That's what I was thinking, completely different letters
a "language" as defined by the operating system is a lot more than just an alphabet
Well JP keyboard isn't too hard to use
I assume being in "Polish language" mode also changes where some of the English letters get placed on the keyboard, for starters
Korean keyboards have dedicated "Korean/English" key and "Change to Chinese letter" key
oh yeah, Windows also seems to keep spontaneousuly changing its mind about whether I'm on US English or UK English, which mostly means that my @, " and £ symbols keep changing places every couple days which is incredibly annoying but at this point it's just become muscle memory to try every location they might end up
No they're normal
But you can press alt and make a into ą or o into ó
also thank god ' doesn't move around and our coding style prefers single quotes
Wikipedia says Most computer keyboards in Poland are laid out according to the standard US visual and functional layout. Polish diacritics are accessed by using the AltGr key with a corresponding similar letter from the base Latin alphabet. Normal capitalization rules apply with respect to Shift and Caps Lock keys.
neat
does Polish not have any, uh, fully original letters? is it all "English alphabet plus diacritics"?
Or l into ł or e into ę but if you don't press alt then it's all English 😎😎🌟
(does the slash in ł count as a diacritic???)
I don't know what a diatrict means
A diacritic (also diacritical mark, diacritical point, diacritical sign, or accent) is a glyph added to a letter or to a basic glyph. The term derives from the Ancient Greek διακριτικός (diakritikós, "distinguishing"), from διακρίνω (diakrī́nō, "to distinguish"). The word diacritic is a noun, though it is sometimes used in an attributive sense, ...
Some diacritics, such as the acute ⟨á⟩, grave ⟨à⟩, and circumflex ⟨â⟩ (all shown above an 'a'), are often called accents. Diacritics may appear above or below a letter or in some other position such as within the letter or between two letters.
Yes I think
ok so that would include the Polish slashy l
is ł usually pronounced "uo"?
I know nothing about Polish other than "it has a ł letter"
But i dont like to talk about polish because Ive seen many Instagrams that it's as difficult as chinese and I don't know
We have pierogi it's super tasty
And Ukraine is next to us and they're at war
apparently L with a slash is W
"as difficult as chinese" is an...interesting analysis. Chinese can be both very hard to learn and relatively simple to learn, as its biggest problem is having so many "letters"
common polish ł
But i speak English because my dad is Australian
This is so funny it should be more popular
language difficulty is so hard to judge, IME for most people it has more to do with which language(s) you already know than anything else
I'm gonna write it on insta
Spanish and French and so on are "easy" while Chinese and Japanese are "hard" only because most people I talk to are starting from English
What's IME?
in my experience
Common polish Ł
The language proximity definitely matters, but also there is an inherent difficulty in a language
of course the real reason Chinese is hard is tones, and I'm borderline tone deaf, so I'll never be able to speak it even if I wanted to spend a few years on it
My dad is Australian my mom is Polish and I'm Confused
I think Chinese is a bit hard to anyone as it simply requires a lot of memorizing
at least in Japanese, I found the difficulty of memorizing kanji to be radically (pun intended) exaggerated
Japanese is relatively easier in that perspective
I feel like this would be more punny if I knew how it was radical
kanji are made of radicals, roughly
Yes I think it must be more difficult than polish because they use different letters, like Russia, Belarus and Ukraine
They have a fairly limited amount of kanji used
I don't know what that means
interesting
unless the kanji are trying to overthrow the king or something
Chinese do have "limited amount" too, but their entire language is based on those letters
I don't think I could ever learn Asian letters or Russian letters
this shit sucks man
HEY
It's not about it being non latin alphabet based language, it's about it using logogram
In a written language, a logogram, logograph, or lexigraph (from Greek logo, "word", and gramma "that which is drawn or written") is a written character that represents a word or morpheme. Chinese characters (pronounced Hànzì in Mandarin Chinese, Kanji in Japanese, Hanja in Korean, chữ Hán in Vietnamese and Sawgun in Standard Zhuang) are genera...
for example: take the 猫 (neko = cat) kanji. The left of this kanji is犭. The top right is ⺾. The bottom right is 田. These three parts are called "radicals". Many Japanese dictionaries even allow you to look up kanji using the radicals they're made of, e.g. if I go to https://tangorin.com/kanji and select those three radicals it tells me there's only one kanji with all three of them:
I see
It does not I play it
Which Japanese word has the most radicals?
good question
well, first off let's say kanji, "word" is much harder to define in Japanese than in English
The jōyō kanji (常用漢字, Japanese pronunciation: [dʑoːjoːkaꜜɲdʑi], lit. "regular-use kanji") is the guide to kanji characters and their readings, announced officially by the Japanese Ministry of Education. Current jōyō kanji are those on a list of 2,136 characters issued in 2010. It is a slightly modified version of the tōyō kanji, which was the in...
スケートボード
but among commonly encountered kanji, I feel like it's rare to see more than 5 radicals
Yeah I see 5 in the screenshot
well the screenshot is of a kanji with 3 radicals
Don't get confused with strokes
But the interface has a button for five or more
I don't expect the question to have an easy or a clear answer so it was just an excuse to make a pun
oh that part of the UI is for looking up multi-kanji words
like, these are 3-kanji words that contain the earth/ground radical somewhere:
subway, newspaper company, parking space, cafe, garden, meeting room, etc
Skateboard
number of kanji in a word is different from number of radicals in a kanji, or number of strokes in a radical or kanji
(explaining how "strokes" is different from "lines" is a whole thing lol)
I hate chinese letters
so how do you explain to people that a square is 3 strokes
(I can't even remember how the heck I learned that)
You learn it by drawing it 300 times in a notebook as a homework
good thing I got to skip all that
and now I will never be able to write kanji by hand
which no one actually needs to do because computers exist
calligraphy's cool though, much like vinyl records
Wait but it has 4 sides
"口 is 3 strokes... because it just is" - my textbook

down, right-down, and then right at the bottom
I may be like not smart but its 4
more seriously though, I believe the general rule of thumb with writing kanji is that you always want to move either right or down, never left or up, and that means right-then-down is allowed to be a single stroke
When I first learned Arabic the teachers were very insistent that I draw letters using the correct ordering of strokes and that they would know if I cheated
there's a good example google images found
and therein lies the difference between a line and a stroke
They did not know
a square might be 4 sides, but you do it in 3 strokes when writing by hand
One stroke
I wasn't even aware Arabic had to teach a stroke order
all the letters look like one curly stroke and then some dots maybe?
It's not strictly necessary. It's just a technique to help you draw good looking letters
You have to start each letter from a specific point or the ink smudges and it won't look right
makes sense
ض is three strokes
like how if you draw 口 correctly with only rights and downs you'll usually get those two little nubs at the bottom
Yeah
oooh, so for ض you pick up the pencil between the left "u" and the right... part, and then the dot?
Meanwhile ء is just the head in ع
Also Japan: We have two different ways to write あ
Start from the center, loop right then down. Return to the center and add a nub, then from the nub make a little bowl shape. Finally add a dot
oh
Remember arabic goes from right to left
For the connected shape you cut it short like soضنك
(two letters added to make a real word)
I learned arabic for like a year before, but I have absolutely nothing left in my brain
In practice most letters will be connected but you learn the separated shape first then cut it down to shape
hm... so for ضنك, would you start in the "middle of the first/rightmost letter", go diagonally up to the right, loop downward and then go left with some upward spikes all the way to the other end of the word, and that's one stroke?
You start from the first letter, placing your own at the point the loop connects to the next letter, then do the loop as with the full sized character. Add the dots after you finish the word.
For this word you can do it in one long stroke
(minus the dots and the ء)
Honestly what really matters is just if it is identifiable for other people
I guess English cursive is supposed to work kinda like that but no one learns cursive any more
Yeah, it's basically like cursive in the sense it's fucking annoying and I hate it
Unless the letter is so fucked up
And they have 入 and 人
ok it's exactly the same thing but slightly bigger

in my Notepad++ the rendering changes noticeably when I zoom in
Arabic had a language rendering renaissance in the 80s and 90s
There's a lot of great looking fonts
I think Microsoft Word should have a bunch if you want to test it
And you can use this pangram to test with
نص حكيم له سر قاطع وذو شأن عظيم مكتوب على ثوب أخضر ومغلف بجلد أزرق
I think after an entire year of learning Arabic, I could finally pronounce the written script. Now I forgot all of it and can't do it anymore.
is it as innocuous as our quick brown fox jump
Yes but the vocabulary is somewhat archaic
It talks about a wise man with an... Absolute secret? Something like that? And great import who wrote a script on a green cloth bound in blue leather
Oh wait, it's not a wise man. Context was missing. It's a wise text
"a wise text with a cutting secret and of great import written on green cloth and bound in blue leather." Is the literal translation
"wise text" is hard to translate but it's a figure of speech you can surely decipher
that is so much more dramatic than ours
Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow
how have I never heard this one before
It's the shortest pangram that makes sense
Also see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangram?wprov=sfla1 for other examples
A pangram or holoalphabetic sentence is a sentence using every letter of a given alphabet at least once. Pangrams have been used to display typefaces, test equipment, and develop skills in handwriting, calligraphy, and typing.
From Software fucking language
Illusionary wall ahead
what would a pangram even be in CJK languages
thought so, Japanese has all-kana pangrams
these pangrams are still several words
I did finish Chants of Sanaar, I'm pretty sure I can learn it in about 20-30 minutes
How many characters does it have? 30? Should be a piece of cake.
(great game btw)
I wish they'd done a little more with that last language but otherwise loved it
Agreed
The moment they get you to ||translate between the people|| I went "oh fuck this game is doing something really really fucking cool"
when was that moment for you?
I can't remember if I managed my first one on the 3rd or 4th tier
I think when I found the 3rd teleport and succesfully translated the first bit
Maybe it was the 4th teleport
Because I missed the first one, the 2nd you can't do it, the 3rd I think you still only know one language
in my case I found almost every teleport as I went up so I figured out that meta puzzle was coming long before I knew enough glyphs to actually do it
It's not just language, you really have to learn the various cultures, mythology, and stuff like that
It's so goddamn cool
indeed
they did a great job of simplifying the languages down to what could plausibly be figured out within a puzzle game while keeping the most interesting differences between languages (cultural context, grammar rules, etc)
like how none of them have a cursive
My mind was blown when I gathered that the ||warriors refer to the devotees as impures||
It's definitely up there with Obra Dinn among the games that I wish I could forget so I could play them again
the funny thing is
I didn't put that together for a long time
because ||I completely missed that you could rotate the statue at the start of the fortress||
so the only visual depiction I had of that word for the longest time was the mural later which is even more misleading
Oh, makes sense, I think I gathered that from one of the wall things.
And the fact that they were ||very obviously keeping them away from the tower||, by their actions.
||I think when I first got there it was one of my theories, which I discarded after seeing the mural and its very inhuman depictions of that glyph, oops||
||In that mural they do look like monsters, so it's not obvious.||
of course the fact that these misinterpretations are possible is part of the point
Korean and Japanese have their own letters, so we have pangrams using those. Chinese can't have a pangram, due to its nature, quite obviously
I'm reading but I don't understand but it's cool
we do recommend playing Chants of Sennaar
It can have kind of the opposite of a pangram
"Lion-Eating Poet in the Stone Den" (Chinese: 施氏食獅史; pinyin: Shī-shì shí shī shǐ) is a short narrative poem written in Classical Chinese that is composed of about 94 characters (depending on the specific version) in which every word is pronounced shi ([ʂɻ̩]) when read in present-day Standard Mandarin, with only the tones differing. The poem was w...
I almost brought that up
Meanwhile my brain be like
"order of vowels"
English brain : aeiou
Japanese brain : aiueo
AWY
oddly the latter order is more useful in practice for me
because of how mobile Japanese keyboards like to group the kana by consonant and vowel
Arabic has three vowels with a long and short form each
I genuinely just prefer qwerty when typing well anything
You're supposed to derive the short form from context, which is why I misread the previous pangram
Can you say something in Arabic that you would say to someone from Egypt that you like?
it's definitely impossible for me to learn anything but qwerty now
if the world ever spontaneously shifts to dvorak or whatever someday I'll be in the old guard buying special legacy keyboards
I would not speak to people from Egypt

Aren't they Muslim?
Yeah but they sound funny
But do they have the same letters?
It's like trying to talk to a British person with a cockney accent
I have a friend on Discord from Egypt
I can't stop myself from laughing
I think brittish is funny
Connecting "being Muslim" to "using Arabic" makes me very worried
Some people in Egypt consider Egyptian Arabic to be its own language
Problematic as it is, it's a very strong connection over here in Saudi Arabia but there are other Arabic countries with larger populations of non-muslim native Arabic speakers
stupid question
"Arab" means a person from Saudi Arabia, right? is there a short word for Arabic speaker?
A person from Saudi Arabia is a Saudi
oh that is much clearer
Arabs is for Arabic speakers but I find it disrespectful personally
Saudi Arabia is just "Arabian Kingdom of Saud Dynasty"
Basically, with some nuance I can't put into words
So when are we gonna make a channel/thread dedicated to linguistics
when it starts happening in exactly one channel instead of all over the server
now tell us about tildes
also I actually started up Ghost Babel just because I was curious
apparently I'm terrible at this
¡Terrible!
lol
Snake: and one more thing
Jenner: Yes?
Snake: Can I call you Chris?
Jenner: I... we don't know each other that well.
Snake: We can easily change that

the fact that this game is mission based is a god-send for me, means I can do a chill run of a mission and learn layout, enemy placements and patterns and items, and then I can just load up a savefile/savestate and do super clean runs like this in less than half the time
Is there any way to play silent hill that would have better visuals(at the very least no colour banding or dithering) and maybe some qol changes?
Depends on which one you mean
The only current project of that sort is SH2 enhanced edition for the PC port of SH2 which is a full on remaster with a couple of extra tweaks like some newly added camera angles in a small number of areas, other than that I don't know if 3-4 have any similar mods (looking into it SH4 seems to have a 2k-4k texture mod on Nexus and there was an Enhanced Edition mod for SH3 but it got taken down and I can't find it)
i meant the first game,i havent played anything in the series and would love to try it but some stuff bout the ps1 game is obv dated as hell
colourbanding is such a big issue there that on retroarch i couldnt see shit and dithering didnt help at all just created the same problem in a new way
For Silent Hill 1 specifically no, there's nothing of that sort
Best thing you can do is just tweak an emulators settings to make it look the best it can and that's pretty much it
DuckStation can do truecolor rendering
Just played a game of dbd that has me shaking
I played dredge for the first time and he is the scariest killer in the game i was shaking playing as him
He is overwhelming
What's colorbanding
It's when colors group up into distinct bands
when there arent enough colours to make a smooth transition between each other so it looks like big lines instead of being smooth
Usually happens in old games where the cathode ray tube television hides the problem
most common with dark colours
See my mouse here https://i.imgur.com/QiXYNHf.png ?
gonna re screenshot the part to make it a lil clearer what to look for
Sometimes, color banding is a problem with the game itself. Sometimes it's just the emulator being bad
They're waiting for you, Gordon. In the test chamber…
https://hl25.lambdageneration.com/
Unreal Engine 1 games are full of banding even with 32-bit rendering, it's especially bad if you use a brightnes setting above the default 😦
none of the alternative renderers seem to have resolved this issue (with functional brightness adjustment, that is)
Yeah
Hhahah neat
Can even play it on mobile
Gordon doesnt need to hear all of this he is a highly trained proffesional
I also see color banding a lot in dark scenes in TV/movies (unless I turn on HDR, which is why HDR's a thing now)
Hello, Gordon!
Honestly the best you can do is play it on a crt
It makes the dithering actually look pretty good
True. That's what the dithering was designed and implemented for
Personally I just play on my LCD screen and ignore the problems
When I played sh1 on an emulator I used a "crt" filter
It wasn't bang-on, but it was a lot better then nothing
CRT style filters sometimes help, sometimes they're annoying and I prefer the unmodified pictures
Definitely situational
They vary in quality a ton
Yeah, I think uh
Retroarch has one of my best ones by default
It's a pretty heavy one
Any one have a suggestion for a video game steering wheel controller? Not looking to break the bank here, pretty much anything that's functional on a wide variety of PC games will do.
Does this look good?
It makes me think of @river veldt , so it's got that going for it
(It's compatible with Steam games because of Valve's controller compatibility work)
No clutch pedal though
There's a cheaper version but it's just a plastic but to hold a joy con in

Hmmm, maybe I'm ignorant of what controllers cost. $100 is reasonable but still, ouch
I have no idea how much driving controllers work
Controllers are too expensive
I just use a PS4 controller or mouse and keyboard for everything including driving games
Tbh now that I think about it, clutch pedals are probably impossible to simulate in any reasonable way. Might as well just use buttons ig
Good luck. I wish I could help more
Depends on what brand you get
:3
I got my xbox controller for $25 at walmart
Controllers were never thirty dollars here
Their also on sale currently on amazon
However
And xbox store
OLD controllers were and still are ~25ish here
Oh wow nevermind
The price shot up
It's now 80 dollars for a PS4 controller
Hm, it's 60 on Amazon
Do I support the local evil conglomerate or the global evil conglomerate?
id kinda like a controller but like. only so i can play emulator on pc where keyboard doesn't work well
so i cant justify the cost in my head for now
I bought a PS4 controller a few years ago and I think it was a good purchase
id just really like to actually play wind waker. tryin to do so with keyboard was very hard and didnt go well
Heck yeah
I think Artiks is planning to play Wind Waker Randomizer for December's multiworld game at #1119170161518334004
ooooor nintendo could release ww wii version on switch
I wish
I want them to release a modernized Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Minish Cap
i thought there was?
No you forgot the u
wind waker hd or whatever the name is
That's crazy
Yeah but they're all Zelda
switch is my only console
This guy has a Wii u!

One of them is Bayonetta
Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Smash 4, Mario 3d world, Paper Mario Color Splash, One Piece and the five treasures
I think thats it
oh I have Mario Kart 8 on it
If I never got a wii U i would still own all of those games except paper mario and one piece on other systems
10/10 great purchase
oh and smash 4 which is just a (much) worse version of ultimate
I forgot 4 existed
I've used an Xbox gamepad for my PC games for I wanna say ever since I moved to the UK
only just a few months ago did I finally have to replace it, can't complain with how long it lasted
I prefer the PS4 controller to the Xbox one, but I do like the Xbox 360 controller
I slightly prefer the xbox ones over the ps ones
I think it's mostly due to the size of my hands
with a PS2 it always felt like the grip handles(?) were a little too short
The PS2 controller does have that problem
The PS4 controller is slightly different, more reliable and has a little touchscreen
what if I don't want a touchscreen
You can turn it off or turn it into a simple button
(two buttons, left and right sides)
Counter argument, you can pet the pods in automata with the touch screen
How cute this Pod it is.
In PS4 version, you need to touch a touchpad on Dualshock 4.
For PC version, you need to shake or make circle motion your mouse.
Thanks for watching.
i cant play any racing game anymore without clutch, shits so weird
Are you serious??
yea for racing its a part of the car that you just cant really drop
auto transmission is not the way to go for racing at all imo
Yeah but how about manual without clutch
thats....the worst thing i heard
???? I don't even know what clutch does
clutch itself provides more value than just being able to drive manual,it itself is part of the car control
I play Forza Motorsport
basically disconnects engine from wheels so you can change gears
and doesnt stall the car
but its not only used for gear changing there are many other useful techniques like clutch kicking that can help you break traction for some corners
also you cant really shift as efficiently without a clutch since you cant do stuff like heel-toe downshifting
That's such a good idea when I think about it now
well its a good idea cuz its been in cars almost ever since they were invented
the end is near
I finally managed to make the CS 1.6 update start on Linux, and… it has widescreen FOV!!!
it also has the modern menu (inspired by Half-Life WON, but different from CS WON) and scaled menus. No HUD scaling like Half-Life though, and opening the scoreboard crashes the game (that's specific to Linux)
unfortunately, Condition Zero probably won't get the same treatment
its just a lil nervous
it's always been like this in GoldSrc games, they never had HUD scaling
(same as vanilla Quake 1/2, that probably explains it)
and yeah, you were generally expected to play in 640×480 on low-end PC, 800×600 on average, 1024×768 on high-end
Breezie sized HUD. God damn it lol
some CRTs support 1600×1200 or even 2048×1536, but people rarely gamed at those resolutions due to low framerates even on high-end PCs of the time
2048×1536 is still quite impressive today, it's more pixels than 1440p vertically… so the image looks more detailed, even if your FOV is less wide
Were you gaming like that one image of a dude being taped up to the ceiling?
the story behind this picture is totally straightforward: they were like "I bet you could hang a person from that beam, it looks pretty strong" "challenge accepted"
Did you go to LAN parties that were as hardcore as this?
lol no
I've only been in a LAN once
I brought my tower but no, I wasn't stuck on the ceiling

No way 😄😆😆
Noooooooooooooo thank you
F*ck that.
F*ck ALL of that noise.
Just in case you were getting the feeling that real life would never get as dystopian as all those works of fiction
Allegedly this was a bug and it has already been patched out.
In principle one could say that they fucked up their UI API calls and that little ad banner in the corner on the main menu just did that… but it’s a bit of a stretch IMO
There's no way this was a "bug". That's them covering their own ass after backlash.
This was intentional. The entire game doesn't just pause, including an animation to allow the character to slow down and come to a complete standstill, before the ad pops up.
If it was a bug then things would be much jerkier
This marks the second time the bug has been fixed
Oh I agree it’s intentional. Just saying it’s not strictly impossible that it wasn’t.
Yeah, the first time was near the release of the game and there was not much fanfare
Or I suppose I could say there was not much wailing or gnashing of teeth
I love how everyone in the replies is not buying it at all and calling them out for trying to pull a fast one and then just backtracking it
I don't have any concrete proof that it's the case, but it's not like it's something they wouldn't do
Yeah I agree it's likely intentional
But suppose this was not Ubisoft and instead a better company deserving the benefit of the doubt
This can plausibly appear as the result of a bug, even given the fact that it appears smooth and intentional in the video
A bug is generally any unintended thing that can happen, and it is possible (in a situation where this was a company with good ethics) that they have a system for cleanly displaying items that just happened to accidentally be used for this part
However I find the concept of ads anywhere in the game to be distasteful so the fact they can be loaded in any capacity (even in the title screen or during loading or on the game's store page) to be unacceptable and greedy
Mhmm. I suspect it’s intentional reaction testing, but I also can’t rule out that it’s honestly a bug.
Don't wanna sound like an asshole but I don't really care about a hypothetical scenario where some other company had something like this happen because that's just not's what's happening, and even though I know you could make an argument for this being a legitimate error and a bug with Ubisoft's background and how explicitly they see AC as a franchise to be milked as much as possible I don't give them the benefit of the doubt anymore
Aye, I have little faith in them as well in this regard.
Please read what I said carefully
It’s already pretty scummy that main menus have ads built into them, even when you already own the thing it’s advertising to you.
Yeah, I concur with Flitter
What I said was that even in such a hypothetical scenario where a good company did this, this would be awful
Even by mistake
Big games can be wildly complicated and are often super super hacky, so this being a bug is definitely plausible. But I’m just skeptical.
Even if it's a bug the mere presence of promotional material of any kind is bad because I don't want them to show up even if I explicitly press the button that says "Announcements about our next game."
I'm not upset I know it's intentional but come on 😄🌟🌟
It being intentional should be the reason you are upset
Companies manipulating people by placing advertisements in the product they paid money for is unacceptable
No i think if they made a game and they are very proud they can show it
They can show it on social media. They cannot show it here
I think they can if they really really want to but like maybe once for two days
I find it annoying and distasteful and manipulative to ask me to buy another product while I'm using this product
But what if the new game is even cooler
What if you forget and you play it milion years from now and then you say gosh I wish I played it back in 2044
I don't think you realize the severity of the precedent that actively pausing your game that you payed money for to show you pop up ads sets going forward
They have a store page I can look at
If I forget, it's not important enough to matter
No i think if it was in a battle I would be super upset
It shouldn't be anywhere even if I was in a menu
Oh I think menu is super good idea
Yeah it should be like you are bored and then you press menu button and there's ad and you say no thank you but you were already bored
2044 sounds too futuristic to be a actual year
My pal
When I was a child in 1998
2023 sounded too futuristic to be an actual year
And now it's today
im your pal ? 🥺
Yeah I like you a lot
I find you a good person who is worth the company and wish to talk with you about a great many things
I don't like ads in games either, but I must say, at the very least the start screen is the least intrusive place to put them
That said if From Software ever does anything like that I will flip my shit, so I guess it's largely that I think the bar of some devs is just that low
I did flip my shit when an indie game did it
Frostpunk 1 advertised Frostpunk 2 in a full screen ad every time you launched the game
They removed it later but I hated it
Yeah it's not great
Oh snap, slay the spire is on phones. I didn't realize that
Correct!
I don't think it's a massive deal but also not good either, it's just that From is my bastion away from most of the modern industry bullshit. so that crumbling would really make me mad
No mods though
That's fine I don't care about toh hou
But fortunately Slay the Spire is the one game that is so polished it does not need mods to be fun forever
Also chess
Yeah basically
Yeah
I think it's important that good videogames exist. Much more important than it is that bad games don't exist
Not to say they don't do weird shit, they do preorder bonuses, but for the most part they are good.
Focusing on good games and encouraging their growth is an ideal pursuit
I like positivity over negativity here, even as I recognize some negativity is important and warranted
Tell that to @wind stump
Trackmania has ads if you have Starter access, they're even targeted by default
but it's an expected part of the game if you read the feature list
they aren't too obtrusive, it's generally a decal below the start block and stadium billboards
there are good ways to do in-game ads, but it's definitely not full screen splashes that have to be skipped or closed to play more of the game
I disagree that any exist
I'm generally fine with e.g. a corner of the main menu (that doesn't interfere with me doing normal main menu stuff), or in a setting where ads naturally exist so the dev has to make a bunch of fake ones (like racing games or a GTA) some of them being real is fine, or when you finish/beat the game and there's stuff in the credits about other games (especially appropriate IMO for very short indie games)
here are some of my fortnite binds to make the non fortnite players cringe

I am kinda fine with ads on f2p games, at least them advertising for ingame stuff when you open the shop and stuff
I will tolerate those but I'll hate it all the time as I play
It's kind of how the game makes its money, as long as the game in general isn't too fucked by mtx (and if I am playing it I probably don't think it is)
first time playing fortnite on mouse and keyboard in around 5 years,so id say im doing decent so far getting used to the controls
thats not a free to play game.
It is tho
Oh you mean with AC
Yeah I wasn't referring to that, this was posted much earlier and it spawned a larger discussion
I was more expanding on the discourse than referring to this specific blunder in AC
to be clear, I agree the specific timing of the AC ad's appearance is terrible, and even if it's a genuine bug the fact that the engine supports showing ads there is still bad
the discourse that free games theres a lot more leeway but in games you pay for, fuck off
though also completely expected of this publisher so I'm unable to have any stronger reaction than "welp, guess I'm gonna keep playing indies for now"
I like Ubisoft's games
A lot
But I have boycotted them ever since they did me wrong, and I don't regret it
they have made a few games that I really liked back in the day
but it's been a long time since they made anything I care about
I finished Resident Evil 5 today and
What an utterly broken piece of fucking nonsense
7/10
That's one above the worst score you can possibly give a game
ah you're right
7.69, then
Yeah
That game is only tolerable with local co-op

to be fair
the co-op for 5 and 6 are really fun

the alt skins in 5 are fun

when your first solution and first race attempt to a puzzle is more than a second ahead of the author medal

After Clock Tower 3 was a commercial failure, Capcom tried their hand at stalker horror one more time. Haunting Ground plays on very real fears and is unabashed in its storytelling and imagery - today, let's talk about what makes this game one of the most disturbing, yet well-crafted horror games ever made.

I don't think I'm gonna play this game just because its not quite my style but seeing it in motion I really appreciate the fact that they went with a more Dino Crisis/Code Veronica style of fixed camera I really like that little bit of modernization to the format
it's a shame they decided to never improve on the format and just not do this style of game again
also I find it funny that this video pretty much directly compares and even treats H.G as part of the Clock Tower series because it's the first thing I said when we last talked about it here
it really is just Capcom saying ''but hold on guys we swear we can make Clock Tower good this time!!''
since I still know nothing about Clock Tower that's probably useful for me then
If you ever feel like it I still recommend the Nitro Rad videos on the series, it's actually really interesting for me since it's the opposite, I know nothing of Haunting Grounds but I do know about the Clock Tower games so it's interesting seeing all the mechanics from Clock Tower ''modernized'' in Haunting Grounds

Yeah go for it
It's the first one after all, a classic that one
It's also weirdly perfect to watch right now since Clock Tower 1 never actually released outside of Japan, I'm sure he will explain it a bit on the video
but what he won't explain because the video is from a few years ago is that there's going to be an ''enhanced'' port coming to all modern platforms in early 2024 supposedly, at least that's what they're aiming for
30 years late but I guess better late than never
had to wait for the era of survival horror remakes
and Signalis I guess
but otherwise it's aaaaaall remakes
They were waiting for the perfect moment, they knew all along...
I've noticed Signalis has also weirdly been receiving more attention now too
it does seem like the type of indie game to gradually pick up word of mouth over time
I know people obviously play games at different times it doesn't need to always be all at once but I do wonder why now and not back when it came out, guess it was overshadowed completely by the other releases
I think a lot of indie games are like that, they just don't have the marketing budget to concentrate all hype on the day of release
Clock Tower is a strange game
but the ones that get a decent enough cult following right away, and come off as unique enough compared even to other indie games, tend to grow over time, or at least replace old players with new ones
as much as Signalis borrows from the REs and SHs it does feel like a very unique thing and there's not really any other game I'd say directly competes with it
at least not in my headspace
Fanmade content also helps a ton too, there were a bunch of fanmade stuff for the anniversary of Signalis so that might've maybe brought more people into it
i need to play Signalis, i love lesbians and cosmic horror
also we won't shut up about it which means it's mandatory /s
oh, are we recommendin little known games? tangle tower is nice
Yeah I'd put it up there with the type of game that has to be brought up everytime survival horror is being discussed at least for me
Not exactly but I won't stop you
although I guess Haunting Grounds is kind of little known...?
Sort of
there's this little known game im a big fan of it's called Skyrim
pretty sure it is, I'd never heard of Haunting Grounds until maybe last year, and it's probably only of interest after you've tried the usual REs and SHs and Amnesias and want more of the genre
ah i dont care for horror genre. looks like i shouldve read more up
goin away with my outta context now
it's weird how much I keep ending up in this genre considering I don't think it's intrinsically a favorite of mine the way metroidvanias are
anyway
Tangle Tower is a murder mystery point-and-click adventure game
ah, gtk
I'd say it is but Haunting Grounds just like Rule of Rose is in this weird area where they're completely overlooked by the mainstream majority but within the horror community specifically the more niche survival horror community they're beloved gems
Cult following I guess is the word for it
exactly
Rule of Rose also has a very interesting story, as in the real life story of that game, but you're probably watching the Clock Tower thing so I won't overload you with all this random survival horror knowledge I have
oh, not right now, I had other stuff I wanted to get started tonight
Oh gotcha, I always keep these videos playing while I do other stuff so I assume others do the same
I find I can only really do that with chatting, since chatting lets me switch back and forth until the other person types the next message
when it's just me gaming or coding or even just watching stuff, no two of those can be multitasked, it needs my full attention or the result is worse than not doing it at all
Oh god coding
yeah that makes sense
I can only really do it with gaming if the game doesn't particularly require my full attention or is something a bit more chill and I can probably just mute the game or something, I used to do it a lot with online games
I feel like the games where that could work are also games I don't enjoy much
what do you have in mind?
Uhhh well I don't own many games so when it comes to online I mostly did shooters like TF2 or Apex or otherwise fighting games like Guilty Gear or Street Fighter where I can just do some casual matches and chill a bit, there are some cases where I could do it with single player games but it's specific stuff like DMC5 where I'd try to S rank missions that I've already replayed a million times or try to do bloody palace which are relatively ''mindless'' tasks where I don't need to give my 100% attention to the game
ah, definitely not for me
I think I even did it with Pseudoregalia too a bit since that game is pretty much all gameplay so sometimes I'd maybe have something in the background I listened to but that was a pretty short game anyways
Did you play Guilty Gear Strive?
I have but I haven't played it in a bit
We could play if you want
Can I send gaming clips here
Yes
Tangle Tower is mostly a talk and do puzzles game rather than a traditional "point and click"
It is amazing. Well crafted story, excellent music, personable characters
i just got a cool sword called Chrysamere

A year ago, I made you all a promise. I told you that in one year’s time, for better or for worse, I was going to have given my absolute best effort on finishing my backlo...
My backlog would take more than a year even if I didn't sleep or do anything else
my backlog has been final fantasy vii remake for about a year and 4 months
"autosaves on entering every room"
in 1995!? that's unpossible
I also had no idea there was a "playstation mouse"
I had heard of it but no idea why anyone would buy or use it
turns out the Clock Towers are point-and-clicks for consoles, so... I guess that's why
