Your Rocket League vehicle inventory could come to Fortnite's Del Mar racing mode in the future, as they also mention that removing trading "opens up future plans for some Rocket League vehicles to come to other Epic games over time, supporting cross-game ownership."
Ayo?
There doing it to crack down on potential skin gambling
Valve did something similar with CS making gamba sites a tos violation and sending cease and desists
Cross game cosmetic ownership would be huge ngl lol
i played the Foundry demo, it feels the most like a simplified factorio in 3d out of all the 3d factory builders i've played, i'm still like 50/50 on it though
50/50 is a perfect score

fine 50/100
it doesn't have any problems, but it also doesn't really do anyhing to stand out and making it unique so far
Yeah but since it's paradox you have to wait ten years for them to release one hundred and twenty pieces of
DLC before it's finally worth it
true true
Rocket League is no longer play to earn 😛
Someone was mad about that earlier
@kind shadow @icy tapir Found your bus.
Is that what Nat has stood for this whole time?
Huh.
That either explains everything or absolutely nothing, and I'm not sure which it is.
the joann mines aren't paying as good as they used to so i turn into a train on weekdays
I train every day 💪
lmaoooo whaaa
what the hell lol
james corden lmao
Just means that the end is coming for Kotick and the MSFT deal is on schedule.
Guitar Hero still has a future? That's actually shocking lol
I removed some 1x1 array of holes in the roof to plant cocoa trees.
With that indoor heater.
woah, i didn't know nat bus was real
this is from a roblox game btw
Also that is not a cannonball shooting out, that is FIRE spewed out AFTER shooting a cannonball.

oh I dont have a mac pc
heck, I deleted CS2, it feels kinda terrible
I'm going back to valorant
gonna sell all my cs skins too

@quiet swift oh god https://www.pcgamer.com/at-activisions-internal-meetinginexplicably-hosted-by-james-cordenbobby-kotick-promises-a-new-dimension-of-emotional-connection-powered-by-ai/
THat explains the tweet, but what in the fuck
Well i guess hes kinda right. Mircosoft will definitely be exposing more ai stuff to them

They already use ai to monitor chat in cod now
Depends for what's used.
For moderating cod chat it's probably okay
If you play cod online you already deserve some scrutiny anyway
Algorgitms to monitor large amount of data are pretty much the only sane way to do it past a certain scale, even tho they do need human oversight for when they get it wrong.
I am not aware of Microsoft being especially bad for stuff like that, so if incidents happened they didn't get to me quite yet.
If anything it's Blizzard that is known for having bad moderation with too little human oversight in WoW
- Fuck you Kotick
- There is nothing wrong about adopting AI/ML in games. It can genuinely make games better. It is actually likely that it will make many games much better.
- While that is true, it seems Kotick has no fucking idea what he is talking about
Well, 2 is very much up in the air and it depends what those are used for
The biggest problem is, just like how the article is pointing out, 3
It seems he has no idea what he is talking about
So it's hard to tell what this whole 'using AI' is actually about
Well to be fair. Kotick probably wont have to really care come Friday
Microsoft Won't Need To Wait On EU To Close Activision Purchase, Report Claims
https://insider-gaming.com/microsoft-wont-need-to-wait-on-eu-to-close-activision-purchase/
Hm, the way they put it as "emotional connection" I thought it would have been community moderation, but now that I think about it more, the term is definitely so vague that it could actually mean anything
EU approved already yeah unless they had more questions
It was the UK holding things up
@wind stump nerd
Kotick also spoke on the future of AI in Activision's future games: "If you look at the new technologies that are on the horizon, we're going to be able to do things that we've never done before with AI and machine learning … We have characters on the screen and video games [with] mouth movements and facial animation that is realistic—you're going to have a new dimension of emotional connection that we've not yet mastered."
Oh that makes sense
I like how the article uses 3 paragraphs to say "wtf is he talking about"
Yeah for facial animation I can see it working better than hand made animation and worse but less expensive than MoCap
I have to give that it's at least not a total bullshit
I kind of expect AI to be about as good as mocap tbh
I think it'll depend from the actor
It will probably at least better than a bad actor
But there is a decent chance of uncanny valley
EU approved the mergers, however because Microsoft changed the deal for UK, EU has the right to do another review if they want.
Watch it be a monthly subscription https://fxtwitter.com/culturecrave/status/1712159261315518912?
Subscription guitar hero doesn't actually sound awful, if they kept up a solid cadence of new song releases and bundled them all in the sub
Could beat buying tracks individually at three dollars a pop or whatever
If the price was good I wouldn’t mind it. I mean they did try something like it in guitar hero live where you had to use hero coins to play premium songs up to a week early.
Just Dance is subscription-based these days, isn't it?
You can buy annual releases with thirty tracks or whatever but there's a subscription that gets you all of them ever
Or I think there is anyway
I confess to being outdated on Just Dance business models
I’ve been waiting years for another guitar hero game. So I hope it’s good.
i mean
theres already plenty of GH games
why not do tony hawk or something instead
GH has been milked to death already
there was literally 9 guitar hero games in 2009 lol
...and the last release was in 2015
Because currently there are zero of them and they sort of require ongoing support (in a way Tony Hawk does not)
Rock Band 4 is actually still actively supported, but the controllers are discontinued so good luck if you don't already have them
Rock band 4 is a good game but yeah the instruments can be hard to get.
I think I have a sealed rock band 4 guitar somewhere.

oh
sorry i got excited about Macho Man
Gotta say... Why does Kingdom Hearts have such a great soundtrack? Also why is the story, in contrast, so cringy? It's misleading.
Same for Nier
Is NieR cringy?
dam
Rare Flitter L
Yeah
in all seriousness, I think there's something about Japanese games which trends that way
But it was funny so I'll give him a pass
I can't articulate why though, these examples don't have a translation quality issue
NieR does have a banger of a soundtrack
It's a good game too, as long as you ignore the silly writing
Just like Kingdom Hearts
I think it's that Japanese musicians tend to be better about capturing emotion into their compositions than western ones. At least that has been my low-key hot take on that for a while.
I think Nier writing is pretty good, it has some silly beats for sure, and Automata in particular tends to get a bit pretentious at times, but I never felt it got to the point of being cringy
And I think Automata managed to earn its moments of pretentiousness.
At least not nearly to the orbit of KH
most of NieR's silliness felt intentional
like, the machine's version of Romeo and Juliet could be described as incredibly cringe
Counterpoint, Lena Raine is pretty good
but we're also clearly meant to laugh at it
Lena Raine is amazing and I can only dream of having her make music for my games that I'll never make.
ngl the only KH game i ever cared for was the psp one lol
birth by sleep i think it was called
BBS was a regular console game
I feel like 358/2 was a DS game? not sure what if anything the PSP got
the psp one was the original version of birth by sleep
She's literally on a shortlist of dream composers of mine in the "never gonna happen" scenario of "I have money and a team and an interesting game here, who do I choose to hire?"
PSP got Birth by Sleep, yeah
huh
well
I would not recommend playing it on that system now that there are alternatives lol
lol
that would explain why I slept (ha) on it for so long though
Every time she shows up where I don’t expect her to, I immediately pick out her style.
Sometimes she just does random collaborations and she always brings her chiptune filters with her
Ah, TIL she did some official Minecraft tracks. Neat.
Sadge
I can't imagine you'd get much from 30 seconds though
It's an ad each
Toby Fox is another great western game composer
No Toby Fox is Japanese
that's not true
Obviously you've never been to America
i live here !
Do you know Japanese?
no
Well there you go
Still pretty crazy how good BBS looks on the PSP though
also poor 385 days didn't get a proper remaster for the console HD versions it's just the cutscenes
which admittedly is the best and arguably only worth part of the game but still
Kingdom Hearts is such a wild franchise
TF
Blizzard has come under fire for locking eye-catching Diablo 4 skins behind a $40 bundle. https://bit.ly/48RFauv

Literally so many other things you can do with that money
Opera making a good case for itself NGL
you can also download Fortnite and get 4 My Hero Academia skins
You don't get to squint here. You escaped the US because you knew Japanese which is illegal
there were still several years of overlap
That's what makes it an escape
PSN is currently down so if you are having issues logging in or trying to play online that’s why.
yeah thats a much better use of 40 dollars lol
even the michael myers and jack skellington bundles together in fort are a much better use of 40 dollars than those diablo skins
cause at least with those you can make Jack and Michael hit the gangnam style together lol
or the Macarena
Chaos
lol
its like the ultimate fever dream
jack skellington being added also opens the floodgates for other disney characters to get added
I dont have an issue with fork knife anymore, no reason to get mad at the game tbh
I hate Epic and Tim Sweeny, if anything
Fortnite has just been figured out and its not a game i want to spend even a dime on, except for that arctic spec ops looking dude cuz tacticool is always worth it
And by figured out, i mean people are ao damn good at that game now that i cpuld probably walk 5 feet and get domed from across the map
I want Rumbleverse back goddammit
see thats like one of the things with people hating the game
its usually people hating it because they hate something epic/tim has done
even though the game itself is like legitimately good
they put a lot of effort into the game to make it as enjoyable as possible for the players
then they go the extra mile getting the licenses for all these different characters/celebs/etc
and they go all in on the live events and concerts and stuff
as well as just outright removing the building mechanic into its own mode
which let people who are absolutely terrible at building have a much better way of playing the game
Oh snap
Wait they REMOVED building as its own game mode?
Thabk god
I dont keep up with the game
i havent gone back to the building mode since zero build was introduced
is so much better
deff worth giving a try if you dont like the building mechanic at all
Man this reshade looks awesome
First time I ever use a mod like reshade on a game ever
well that's a bit of a problem
ReShade is pretty cool but a lot of presets you find online aren't very cool
(overly aggressive color grading, contrast tuning, etc)
personally, I mainly use it to enable ambient occlusion and SMAA in games that don't support it, sometimes glow (but that tends to mess with UI elements)
people in the mod comments seem to really like this preset and I can't complain much, it's mainly a reshade that aims to make the game more colorful since the original look of the game is very dull and brownish (just like the original RE4)
But if you have any tips I'm not gonna complain
I've never used a mod like this before
Most mods I've ever used are just stuff like upscaled HD textures which I'm currently downloading for this game too and maybe costume mods
I did disable a very strong and ugly gaussian blur option this mod's presets had because it just blurred the entire thing on the edges
Reshade is more basic than upscaled textures
It's just post processing, which means it's light and is applied after most of the graphics steps
The installation process sure didn't feel like it was more basic
Usually all you have to do is drop a dll file along with some config files into the game's folder
The installation guide wasn't written in a very helpful way so it took a second for me to figure it out
I've been replaying Resident Evil Remastered recently and decided to try enabling a 'global illumination' shader. To my surprise, it revealed some higher-resolution background art. Thought it was an interesting little detail for a classic game!
You can download ReShade free here:
https://reshade.me/
Ray Traced Global Illumination (RTGI) by Mar...
also seeing the fully modeled backgrounds of this game just makes me wish the game had been remade with a fully dynamic camera angle
but honestly for a 2002 game this still looks so mindblowingly impressive
Oh wow, this sort of shader doesn't usually work without the game being designed for it
The video mentions that this is a global illumination shader and that some areas in RE1 have dynamic lighting so they had to remake those areas with full 3d models but I was under the impression that they're all just jpegs
a pinned comment explains it a bit:
Hello, I'm a Resident Evil modder person so I know a bit about how this is stored in game files. Each background uses two textures: the diffuse texture (this is what you see in the game, which was stored literally as JPEGs on the original Gamecube release and that's what Capcom had to work with when upscaling the backgrounds for the HD release) and a texture showing the z coordinate of each pixel relative to the camera position (aka depth buffer) which is used for attaining perfect clipping for the real-time 3D objects related to the background (it was probably useful for shadow rendering as well). These z-buffer textures are what you're showcasing in your video (well, alongside shading applied by reshade) and these are stored in a lossless format, which explains why they look so sharp compared to the diffuse texture (which have gone through a horrific transformation, aka saved as JPEGs then upscaled with a cheap filter and then finally stored using lossy DXT compression).
I'm pretty sure there are 3D models for each room, but they're extremely basic meshes used for collision, so they wouldn't look very impressive. And, of course, as you mention in the video, there are a handful of rooms which were fully re-created in 3D.
Yeah, it's neat that the game has a depth buffer
OOT does a similar thing but with actual geometry
it's a funny trick, the background texture is mapped in a way to look 2D, but the actual clipping is polygon-based and not texture-based
RE1 is incredible
Sure is, I'm still mad RE2 and 3 didn't get a proper remake or haven't been properly remastered
I see you
I'm still so mad that RE3R is now the ''new canon'' (because who even gives a shit about the canon lore on this franchise anyways) and that the RE3R Jill is the new default Jill because not only do I really not like that game I also don't really like that Jill either
jill sandwich
it's also similarly very fucking hilarious that they still do the same stupid thing of refusing to age their characters specifically any female character and used the excuse of ''well Jill was infected so now she's got that magical anti-aging goo inside her so she looks exactly the same as she did in RE3
'
they also squeezed their way out of acknowledging the fact that RE6 Ada is like 40 years old by making Ada's age unkown when back in RE2 it was 'confirmed' she was like 24
but now we just don't know!
Gotta look cute
Her age is she's asian, so she could be any age now
that's so stupid
People also made fun of this but the fact that she's also wearing the exact same outfit and they didn't even bother to change her design is also very funny
Everyone else has their current designs from RE6-forward but fuck it just use the same model from RE3, ship it
Jill’s design being straight out of RE3make is the one thing that bugged me about that movie, everything else was just fun imo
there was a movie ,
?
the only movie im aware of is the one that killed the Rich Evans
there's an entire franchise of animated movies since like the mid 2000s
straight up just copy pasted the same model from RE3R it's pretty wild lol
Didn't even bother actually giving her a good new design, could've used her BSAA design which is gorgeous
I wish I could say I was entirely happy to see the return of Guitar Hero, but then I remembered what happened the last time a Guitar Hero game came out and how that was recieved
whats huh

Rumour : Naughty Dog has Cancelled it's The Last of Us Multiplayer game Factions
Following reports Bungie evaluated the project and deemed it would struggle to be successful as a live service.
https://www.psu.com/news/rumour-naughty-dog-has-cancelled-its-the-last-of-us-multiplayer-game/

Yup, read about this not too long ago.
I mean yeah. Live service games are over saturated and dying
lol
Is it an industry wide trend? A lot of them are making more money than ever before
The few monoliths are yes
The other smaller ones are being gutted and killed off sometimes not even a year after release
Not all but a good amount of them are listed here
usually due to the devs not knowing how to actually make a live service game work
hence why the bigger ones end up staying successful
Rip rumbleverse, taken too soon
Not in the slightest
The issue is retention. These live services get a certain amount of people, but for whatever reason (not as many maps as other bigger games, or admittedly quality, yes), they just can't keep the amount of people that the initial rush brought. ANd you need a minimum amount of people (or preferably growth) to keep a game running, if it has microtransactions and is a live service
People just not sticking around/spending for XYZ reason is the death of many games, and a lot of the time is because they've already spent their money on any of the 198394872938479823498273 other live services
yes thats a part of it
them not being able to keep the retention because of not knowing how to properly make it work
not having the polish/quality that the bigger ones have
or even just lack of new content overall
after the initial launch
Again, no
You're essentially making a blanket statement of "lol they don't know how to make a game". Which is absolutely not true
And not having the polish and quantity of bigger ones is just that - a problem of size. They don't have the funding to compete on sheer volume and never will unless it's lightning in a bottle and goes extremely viral
And as a small studio they just don't have the people to both actively work on keeping the game alive and making enough large-scale changes that would actually give it the retention it needs
i had played a few matches of rumbleverse and just didnt care too much for it
It wasnt needed when they already have fortnite
Rumbleverse was the only battle royale i ever wanted to play
Knockout City's studio made a post about it, quoted in an article
rumbleverse wasnt even "bought by epic" at all
Iron Galaxy had literally been involved with porting fort to console
so they werent exactly "owned" by epic at all but did collaborate with them from time to time
which is why they let epic be the publishers for Rumbleverse
What a mistake
eh
Tomorrow is the big day allegedly
this is nothing compared to the ongoing Michael Jackson peek meta
(it's a bug that occurs if you move slowly using controller input, an analog keyboard, or specific binds)
damn lol
she's so adorable
and built like a damn brick house she's huge for being so small
I didn't anticipate maining and liking her so much but I'm glad I decided to lab with her that one time because she's fun
Talim, izzat you
she looks a lot like Talim in her upcoming new outfit
also look at how fucking strong she is

If only you could do that for the physical edition
Since the game is fully offline some people will have copies so they can play. But if it was online they would need to wait for the patch in order to play.
thinking about getting this game because i want to get into strategy games but it looks so complex
also the strategy games (at least as a concept) that interest me the most are medieval-era ones focused on foot/troop combat
Having played a fair number of different 4x games, civ's actually one of the least complex. That isn't to say it's easy or simple, but I felt like others added even more layers of complexity
That sounds like some Total War games. Though I think that's earlier than medieval
yeah it's worth it, espsecially when you compare it to paradox strategy games it's actually relatively simple lol
it's dirt cheap these days on sale with all the dlc

i just meant not gun based basically lol, and total war is interesting but the suppoesd best one (medieval 2) is a bit too dated for me
I see ill think about it then

i got Bannerlord and was just disappointed at how badly the command mechanics control and realized that strategy games really interest me, i just need to get into them, so im trying to find ones that are simple but still fun. about the only one ive played is Bad North which is a very simple RTS roguelike but it has barely any content
Or, well. Not 4x like Civ but medieval definitely: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1466860/Age_of_Empires_IV_Anniversary_Edition/ and the others

Yeah this one is interesting me too
Is good stuff. If you have gamepass it should be there
That, Civ, Total War, and Field of Glory are all games im gonna check out if Battle Brothers — an RPG im gonna get that isnt really a strategy game but seems like something im looking for — doesnt satisfy me

Unrelated to that:

Hack N' Slashes seem like definitely one of the best genres to be on the steam deck tho, at least imo
Fair, it's in a pretty bad state, but they've just released a bunch of info for season 2 and they're making a gigantic amount of changes that look quite good
oh, I also want to try getting into those colony building games; dwarf fortress, songs of syx, and rimworld all have peaked my interest but if theres any other good ones anyone can recommend ill look at them
Gotcha
DF and rimworld are the ones i see mentioned here most often. DF's I think around 20$? But that's hella complex as far as I know

I heard it was a great one tho

this game has so much post-game shit it's insane

“Microsoft edges”…heh
This game is getting developer responses on new negative reviews
It's eight years old
Feels like theyre the sort of person who can't accept criticism
Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt used AI to replace a deceased voice actor after gaining permission from the family. https://bit.ly/46IdeI5
honestly, i dont see a problem with that.
they had permission, which is very important. and he's dead.
They should have permission from him, not his family
he's dead
Yeah, they should have asked him before he died
this is the best they can do, and tbh i expected worse from a corporation
they dig up the coffin and mime his skeleton giving permission before throwing it back in
"good enough"
Given the game in question...
i dont see this company as scummy. i see them as fucking moronic
now EA or ubisoft...
Unrelated: this week's free stuff!
Oh I mean more that in the game corporations are like hugely more powerful than many nations and are generally uber evil and whatnot. Moreso than in reality, that is. It's just a tad ironic of a statement given that a lot of the game is about the corpo problem
oh thats fair
The game-accurate solution: shoot, kill the VA, and then make the dead body nod and announce "we got the permission"
Sounds about right

Ubisoft Connect and Xbox Game Pass just got a major boost. Ubisoft did kinda need a boost. This is nice that the deal finally went through. I'm seriously hope this means a lot of improvements for all the franchises involved, COD included. Not to mention a complete Activision rework and facelift
Kind of annoying that hell spawn Bobby Kotick is staying around even for a day longer though
I'm trying to think of what pony races each character would be from RDR2
But I'm slightly worried about if I should go with racial connections for characters like Charles and races like Buffalo
In my opinion
Arthur Morgan: earth pony
Dutch Van DerLinde: unicorn
Hosea Matthews: pegasus (maybe unicorn)
Micha Belle: I do not wish to disrespect any of the three tribes by assigning them
Lenny: pegasus
Charles Smith: earth pony, or buffalo if we wanna go with the show's depiction of them being the stand in for natives
John Marston: earth pony
Bill Williamson: earth pony
Mr Swanson: pegasus (who's always too drunk to fly)
Abigail Marston: pegasus
Uncle: lumbago horse
Herr Strauss: unicorn
Javier Escuella: deer
Sadie Adler: pegasus (or maybe kirin)
Jack Marston: pegasus
Javier gives me deer vibes idk
Could also see Arthur as a deer thanks to his high honor fever dreams
Thats definitely odd
Makes sense. Gives time for new management to get in and finish current admins employment year

rip bozo
I don't think Kotick cares. He's getting hundreds of millions of dollars
he already has hundreds of millions of dollars
I dont care how much hes paid I want him to stop having authority over the company for the sake of those who work there

Best Buy confirms it's ending sales on physical movies/TV shows in 2024 (in-store and online). It will continue to sell video games.

Well, at least we aren't taking another step in terms of physical games being thrown out. Yet
Blizzard has cod. I doubt it will close
World of Warcraft?

Microsoft now owns four major FPS franchises. Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein and now Call of Duty.
I am 200% sure that Blizzard is black hole for money in ActivisionBlizzard
They got all the infinity stones.
OW2 is the most hated game in Steam
shouldnt counter strike be on the "legendary fps franchises" list
Diablo 4 after release is coming to dead
On what basis are you saying this? There's absolutely 0% chance of it happening.
Phil Spencer already bought Bethesda with hoping that they will make 99999 games
Now Activision Blizzard
..You do realize the difference in scale between Bethesda and ActiBlizz?
Right, so you're not willing to have an actual conversation, got it
Phil has said he'd love to see more Starcraft
Again, you clearly have 0 idea how game dev works
everything I've heard about OW2 sounded like management/PR issues, not dev issues
There's like 5-6 different teams that are responsible for each game. For example, WOW's is 700 people alone, after the acquisition of the studio i've forgotten the name of
And yes. The GAME is apparently very fun. The product (battle pass, cosmetics, etc) is not
wow Microsoft owns King
and the whole promising PvE thing
oh lord Microsoft owns Space Quest and King's Quest now
But yeah. The team responsible for OW2 would not be the ones making Starcraft stuff. Would be an entirely different team
OW2 is management issue, not dev issue
I don't believe that Phil will change AB management
Still, they're not gonna put management responsible for a FPS on an RTS
https://www.trackmania.com/news/7739
only the first 10 tracks of the campaign can be played for free, starting from the next season
And SC3 will have battle pass, each company will cost 70$, multiplayer is only who spent 70$ on last addon, coop commanders will cost 20$ each
RTS are seeing a slow resurgence. There's several C&C-type coming out, there's that one SC-like game as well in the next year or so

What is a galactic civilization without people that constitute it, and the great leaders that guide them in their path towards greatness?
In the vast cosmos of gaming, we often find ourselves leading empires, commanding armies, and forging alliances. But have you ever wondered...
I don't think Blizzard is gonna straight up disappear
there is probably no scenario in which the branding completely disappears from future products, or in which all of the associated developers quit game development forever
I dunno how much might get reshuffled though
If you think about it, Microsoft now owns multiple franchises ending with the word “craft”.
Minecraft. Starcraft. Warcraft.
How so?
What is This?
Microsoft might have some incentive to not brand things under anything Activision if they can avoid it, given the concessions they made to do the acquisition
But I doubt they could get away with moving any IPs they already have
The Blizzard brand might have fallen from grance but I think people massively overestimate by how much
And even Activision, millions of COD players see the activision logo everytime they boot up their game, that logo isn't going anywhere
I mean more with regard to being forced to grant Ubisoft exclusive worldwide streaming rights to all of their games (except in the EU, where different rules apply).
Which I believe applies only to Activision games
So they have incentive to have new things not be "Activision games"
Oh I got what you mean
And maybe I am wrong on this, but I feel like microsoft doesn't care that much about cloud gaming for the moment
Maybe they will change gears if it grows enough
They might not now, but the licensing for any game they produce is indefinite.
So if they will ever care in the future they have a motivation now
It's already a bit weird that Ubisoft is going to be able (and apparently plans) to stick the entire Activision back catalogue on a competing subscription service.
(well, I assume not the entire thing. but presumably the currently popular stuff)
And I think they care more than zero.
If nothing else, Ubisoft can undercut them if it wants to. And they have to pay Ubisoft for the streaming rights to their own games, I think? Which they do at least want to have available.
In any case I assume this deal is structured in a way that prevents them immediately killing Activision and rendering it moot, I certainly haven't read it
But I also think it's very likely that Microsoft will engage in creative corporate structuring to minimise the impact of the agreements.
Which will incidentally constrain the use of ABK brands going forward
(I also agree it's very unlikely they'd want to discard the Blizzard brand. I doubt people have terribly strong feelings on Activision or King though.)
(strong positive ones anyway.)
Isn't that what Microsoft is essentially doing eith Electronic Arts tho?
Gamepass giving you access to EA own subscription service as well.
All they have is to not make it exclusive to comply, they will get compensanted for the games they give to those platforms.
The EA subscription service barely lets you play anything, but sort of
Not making it exclusive is the rule in the EU
In the rest of the world they lose the rights completely and indefinitely
(and then license them back from Ubisoft)
It's a weird addition but I agree that MS owns a lot of shit now, so I'm fine with them having some extra rules.
now if we could apply this more broadly
I don't object to them having more rules
I more object to the acquisition in the first place
I just think Microsoft is likely to take actions to minimise the impact of the rules
I see it as Microsoft is gonna give Activision the facelift it desperately needs
maybe, we'll see
I don't know if we ever will, honestly, unless decision making shows up in a court case in a decade
I don't think they're going to take any existing mainline IPs out or anything in the foreseeable future
But this can probably only ever be speculation
I mostly don't mind the aquisition that much because I think Blizzard was going to turn into a mobile game factory in less than 10 years, so this maybe will give us a better timeline.
And let's be honest, it's hard to be more unethical than whatever Activision was doing anyway.
Microsoft was fairly clear the acquisition was substantially about mobile so I don't think that's necessarily going to go better.
More excited about King than Blizzard
But do you think it will improve the games?
Microsoft studios do not have a stellar track record of late
Well it's the bit that makes more money so it makes sense it'll be the highlight in their investors calls.
For Blizzard, regardless than other IPs we will see a new WoW expansion and the ongoing Diablo 4 development, we don't need to see new games right away to see if there is a change in company philosophy.
Though I wouldn't read anything into that
At worse it'll just keep seeing business as usual.
I still see this as an overall win just because Kotick is getting the fuck out in a few months. That's already an improvement on it's own lol
I'm not sure the replacement of one guy is a compelling argument for further consolidation of the industry under the platform holders' roofs
But
It's an improvment in my mental health if I don't have to read articles about Kotick so that's fair
you never had to read them
Do you have a favourite game from Activision?
https://fxtwitter.com/wario64/status/1712906611118035253? @river veldt
waow
Let's see if that's who it is in the game next week
Also, the potential acquisition that scares me is Disney potentially buying EA. That would be hell on Earth
If that happened would more MTX be added?
I have no idea, but the thought of something like that is scary. People are even thinking Microsoft is gonna fire a lot of people in general. Especially if a game franchise and game studio they now own doesn't turn a profit. They've been known for doing that before. Some are also worried about what this means for the gaming industry as a whole in the long term. Like, the question of, where will the gaming industry be a decade from now because of this?
There were rumours that Apple was going to buy a few studios but haven’t seen anything happen
It's the "What's your variety score" sheet but for Nintendo console exclusive games
I have 25, which is pretty high for someone who can't afford consoles
I got four.
16 if i counted right
Thirty
I have not even heard of style savvy, game builder garage, waverace, box boy, art academy or rusty's real deal baseball
Wave Race 64 is a super good racing game where you're on jet skis
Game Builder Garage is baby's first programming, you can make really simple games with it
Box Boy is a platformer by the Kirby devs iirc
Yeah, I figured as much from names and logos
Art Academy i only know from Pokémon Art Academy and it teaches you to draw Pokémon
How does it do that?
Rusty's Real Deal Baseball is a really interesting one because it was the first time Nintendo dabbled in microtransactions, and you could buy fun little minigames from Rusty (a dog) but you could haggle with him to but it for less
it was a 3ds game so you draw with the stylus
Oh that makes sense
The moment I google it I'm struck with a game grumps thumbnail that has a pikachu in a bikini
and the only thing i know about Style Savvy is that it was on the DS i think ? and Paris Hilton was in an ad for it ?
Literally 4,and 3 of them are games I player more than 15 years ago
it's great
And the other one is Bayonetta because the 1st game is on PC
you're telling me youve never played Steel Diver ???1?1??1?111? /s
3ds launch title
you're in a submarine i think
the 3ds did not have good launch titles
Iron Lung
Oh, I remember a super cool submarine game from the PS1
I don't remember how it's called
no because Iron Lung is good
The only two Submarine games I played are Subnautica and https://youtu.be/fp0DaysKdU0
This is a fun, albeit frustrating(fucking air supply!), game. I had a demo of this(along with Dark Wolf, Jetpack, Trolls, and other arcade-esque games) on a CD way back in the day called Atomic Arcade. You control a guy in a yellow submarine(who looks nothing like any of the Beatles) who is attempting to hunt down an evil mad scientist(why are...
like i said to Onosa in cs, StarTropics is a really good NES game that's stupid hard to emulate because at one point you have to soak a piece of paper that you get in the game box irl in water
Oh I actually did play Steel Diver, so 31 I guess
Google tells me that the name is Submarine Commander
84
I don't actually know if it was any good BTW, I was a kid, I had shit taste.
Actually it's 5, I did play a xenobladr a long time go, and I do plan to play Wonderful 101 eventually so will be 6.
The slow crawl to 10 is real.

Anyone here remember the first game they ever played?
No I played a ton of shit MS DOS games
Probably solitaire on windows 98 or something
The pinball game was good
One of them you had to color in a clown
I'm probably forgetting something even earlier TBH
Almost for sure
Actually definitely, 98 is way too late
Simcity 2000 or Space Cadet Pinball, possibly.
Or some obscure Tonka or Hot Wheels game, actually.
I had for years said Pokémon Blue, but that's actually false.
Yes! How many times did you tilt it?
The first videogames I actually chose to play were probably space cadet pinball or one of those floppy disk demos from PC Magazine
I started playing games when I was like 2 or 3 years old
shrug
has a look at the nintendo checklist
Wait is Tonka the construction one?
I think I score... 4?
Yeah
I loved that game
Also Lego games, but I think I had played others before then
But it's certainly some game from no later than 1995
Actually I still have the tonka game somewhere.
Yeah you won't score high if you didn't have any Nintendo consoles
Most of my games were from the Nintendo handhelds, but I did play some Gamecube and Wii games too
This is the one I played
That's probably the one
This, I think: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Putt-Putt_Joins_the_Parade
Putt-Putt Joins the Parade is a 1992 video game and the first of seven adventure games in the Putt-Putt series of games developed and published by Humongous Entertainment. Upon release, the game sold over 300,000 copies. The combined sales of Putt-Putt Joins the Parade, Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon and Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo surpassed one million...
It Talks!
1992 wow
2 💀
there was a wii at a friend's house lol
have you guys played Space Quest 3
No
I had this too
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonka Hasbro still owns the rights to the series so maybe it’ll get revived one day?
Tonka is an American producer of toy trucks. The company is known for making steel toy models of construction type trucks and machinery. Maisto International, which makes diecast vehicles, acquired the rights to use the Tonka name in a line of 1:64 scale, featuring mostly trucks.
...I have no memory of it but I had it
But I didn't really get into gaming very meaningfully until Pokémon Blue happened.
I had a whole bunch of old point and click adventure games for kids
Was that the first Pokémon you played?
Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds is a video game developed and published by Humongous Entertainment and the first game released for the Freddi Fish franchise. It was released on October 28, 1994. In 2008, it was released on the Wii under the title Freddi Fish in Kelp Seed Mystery as well as Windows and Macintosh, and on Android...
Yeah. The Christmas it came out in 1998 my brother and I were gifted Gameboy Colors and copies of Red & Blue.
Pokémon Blue was the first non-adventure game I completed.
My... mum's friend? gave it to me, along with a Game Boy Color.
For my birthday
Dunno which birthday
Ooooh. Nice
Pokémon Blue is also the only Pokémon game in which I completed the Pokédex.
That had 151 Pokémon
Well, 150, anyway. I don't think I ever got Mew and I don't think it actually counted.
it's a good game
you just need to look under the truck
... You know they added a Lava Cookie under that truck for FR/LG so I think they knew
Well someone had to have told their uncle at Nintendo about it
You wouldn’t have gotten Mew unless you used a glitch or hacking device. Mew was never legitimately acquirable outside of Japan because Nintendo never held the required distribution events outside of Japan.
Huh, I guess they just never bothered with the US, then.
I got 146 pokemon in blue
Closest i ever got to completing one
Then my stepbrother tried to use a game genie to put mew on it and erased my save
I finished the Pokédex in Blue, Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, and Platinum.
They were distributed in the US in various ways too, or so says the internet.
Then Gen 5-onwards I just stopped caring
????? As far as I’m aware they famously never did
https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_European_language_event_Pokémon_distributions_(Generation_I) has a whole list
This is a reverse-chronological list of event Pokémon distributions that were given away to European language Pokémon games in Generation I.
I always heard you could mail your cartridge with 150 on it to Nintendo and they'd put mew on it, but i don't know if that was true
There was a lot of misinformation about pokemon then
On the topic of older games, anyone ever play any of the Dr Brain games?
That playground talk about Pokémon myths was part of how it got so big, to be fair
In the December 1999 issue of Nintendo Power (Issue 127), Nintendo Power ran a promotion to give away up to 1,000 Mew. 1,000 winners were selected from among the applicants, but winners who did not have a Pokémon game cartridge received a T-shirt instead of Mew.
Gotta say the t-shirt seems like a better deal
Famously, holding down + B would increase the chance of catching Pokémon.
Its interesting that I've never saw anyone who played Pokemon until Middle School, and that was the TCG.

did your middle school not have a playground
No.
why
YES
PUZZLE MADNESS
One of my favorite games still
Because at middle, you're already expected to think about College and transfers.
Really? It was the opposite for me - everyone played it until middle school where you were openly mocked, even physically attacked, for still playing “kid games” like Pokémon.
you are ??????
Yeah.
Yes
No you have to tap A and B as fast as possible
i never thought about college until junior year of high school
And... therefore not play? What?
Funniest part is that I never paid any attention to it, because I was never debrief how all of it worked. So that entire system they've made to prevent that, literally did not prevent that.
I got bullied for playing pokemon in 8th grade
Same
Phones were banned, handheld consoles were also banned.
People got weirdly hostile about me playing Pokémon Sapphire
Then a year later, it had gone mainstream and everyone was playing it

High School allowed phones and handheld devices but only during recess.
You had to keep your hobbies secret unless you played Halo or CoD or EVE Online or something
i played my Switch in high school and never got shit for it maybe im just lucky
Bear in mind, 8th grade was 1998 for me, so it had just come out
My school also banned all electronics so I guess not seeing people play it is unsurprising. But everyone talked about it all the time.
Ehh, to be fair nobody wanted to be around me
My school admin was constantly furious with me about having my GBA or DS on me, but I got away with it largely by stretching the ASD support system I had
In a later instance they also banned Pokémon cards because people kept starting fights over them
i rnemever taking my Gameboy Color to middle school in 2017 and then it fell out of my locker and shattered into a billion piece s
But it wasn’t uncommon for people to have a PSP or something on them anyway
Gaming was so good in the early 2000s
But not Magic cards, which apparently caused fewer fights
I thought YuGiOh would do this more often, but honestly Pokemon:TCG was more on brand.
Pokemon card fights were a thing.
Oh right, Pokémon cards were illegal at my Christian school
I was in band, i was already in the "not popular" zone, so my hobbies didn't matter
Because witchcraft
Midnight do you remember the halo 3 launch it was fun.
i brought my iPad to 7th grade middle school a lot and then in 8th grade i brought my phone instead
iPad Mini
not the big one
I didn’t play Halo at the time
Ah right.
Couldn’t afford a non-Nintendo console
I remember wanting a PS3 so bad.
But I do remember the Halo 2 and Halo 3 launches
Which was your first halo?
Because HALF THE FUCKING SCHOOL WAS MISSING
I had a PS3 but never owned a PS3 game I actually liked.
That was the setiment I heard a lot Hack.
I remember when they announced the price of the PS3 live I was like how much?!
i remember wanting a Switch really bad when it came out and i asked for it for my birthday in July but i didn't get it until August
It was absolutely wild that literally like 50% of students suddenly called in sick on the same day as Halo 2 and Halo 3.
(the PS3 was also located in Dubai, where I only lived some of the time)
15th birthday
I didn't know E3 existed at that time.
All I knew was that PS3 existed, and the YouTube PS3 memes were there.
E3 has been going since the 90S
One of my classes managed to only have like six students left in it that day, so we just did nothing
Smol pone
i thought games just magically were announced on the tv until 2015
but i didn't start watching E3 until 2017
“Wii would like to play”
And then the jamming song played.
I actually have the song from that ad on my phone
I hope E3 comes back
In 2023, of course, games are in fact just magically announced on the TV.
It won’t and it shouldn’t
But we put the TV on the internet
E3 died for good reason
but i like the bad funny E3 moments
I know the game awards is the new E3 but it was something I looked forward to every year.
The Game Awards is basically E3 now yeah
The new E3 is just dedicated Nintendo Direct style streaming events held in the summer
TGA is The Other One
I had a PSP though, and the PSP rocked my world.
Now that Microsoft owns Activision it wouldn’t surprise me if they show off some new games coming
Like it blew me away I could watch movies, listen to music, surf the web, and play games.
Then the iPhone happened.
iphone
Christmas gift
I got an iPod Touch 4G, I miss it lol.
Then all the students at the school hated me
"Look at this nerd"
And accused me of being a showoffy rich guy
"Go back to the chess club"
My first iPhone was the 4
my furst handheld console was a DSi XL that i got for christmas and then the 3ds came out the next year but i didn't get a 2ds until 2014 and i only played Animal Crossing New Leaf on it
Of course after the 3G came out everyone had an iPhone
what is with your guys' schools
Texans. shrug
So-cal, strict and public.
Did your school ever let you listen to music when you were working?
Just realized I had the launch PSP model.
i was also in public school
Holy hell.
yellow
Only when I was in the disability support classroom.
Me too!
Also Texas
no im in Iowa
My cousin bought a Gameboy Advance just after I finally managed to buy a Gameboy Color
My school banned phones and technology in general
I was so mad that my purchase was already obsolete
Wow
that's not true Flitter
Even if you needed it for an emergency?
It was totally true though. Gameboy Advance games were way better
Depended on who the teacher was
Sure, the GBC had a lot of amazing games
The school had a hard policy of requiring staff to forcefully take phones and other gadgets and then charging students $50-$100 to return them.
But the hardware of the GBA enabled games to be much better, and in general that was the case
what the hell
My high school had a phone confiscation policy but they couldn't charge you to return them
Ah.
Yeah, charging to return them basically made it theft and extortion.
They still do! You're supposed to keep your phone with you until you leave school if you needed to call someone to take you home
my school you only got your phone taken away if you used it in class. you could use it in study hall the hallway or during lunch
I think the rich kids had text messaging then
I had a phone at a young age, it was one of these.
Wow it has colors
Yes, and I couldn't text on it because it was TOO EXPENSIVE to text. But my god was that keyboard good.
After a few years of running this policy they once tried to take my phone. I pointed that out. The argument escalated to the principle. He let me go immediately and two weeks later the policy was suddenly axed.
Mine was the Nokia brick phone all the way up to college

I had a Virgin flip phone before the iPhone came out
It had snake
And custom ringtones and stuff, it was kinda neat
Every phone had snake back then
Snake was an important feature!
It's simple to make and everyone likes it
My first actual smartphone was this though.
The Nokia 5110 is a GSM mobile phone that was introduced by Nokia on 12 April 1998.The 5110, also known as the Nokia 5146 on One2One (now T-Mobile), or the nk402 on Orange in the UK, was intended for the consumer market, succeeding the Nokia 3110 and the analogue Nokia 232. Its design is based on the same platform as Nokia 6110 for the business ...

I first learned about Android from those teaser ads that Google ran on TV
i dont like snake

No, that game released in 2010
Holy fucking shit
That unlocked some core memories of my childhood right there, I loved this fucking game

i remember the at game
oh I remember this game now that you mention it
I watched my brother play it when I was a kid
My first video game would have been where in the world is Carmen Sandiego on the Apple IIc, on 5.25" floppy
I am quite a bit late to this since I was napping, but here's my score, low though it may be. Frankly, a third of these games I've never even heard of, much less played.
The f*ck is Style Savvy, Sin and Punishment, and Fluidity?
Fluidity was a cool WiiWare game where you tilted the wii remote around and had to get a certain amount of water to the goal
Sin and Punishment was a Japan-only N64 game
Actually a pretty well known title
It's weird that it's on this list at all because it was a one-off
But it is technically a Nintendo franchise
A lot of these feel like they're reaching a bit
I got 19/100
But in listing 100 things from one company that is unsurprising.
20 if I play F-Zero 99 tonight
none of them feel reachy to me
"Pokémon" and then another ten specific Pokémon games
Yeah but when I say Pokemon is a Nintendo game people get mad
right true
I would never in a million years consider Golden Sun a Nintendo game, but it's true that it was published by Nintendo and released exclusively on Nintendo hardware
Daemon X Machina is not Nintendo exclusive and was not developed by Nintendo
Though Nintendo did publish the Switch version
It's like calling Sonic Generations or Colors a Nintendo game
Generations was released on PC and I played it only there
Also Mario VS Sonic is developed by both companies it shouldn't be there either if that was the case

There are only... three or four things here I haven't heard of before?
But yeah some of these are not Nintendo games
mario, pikmin, kirby, pokemon (for 20 minutes total), ssb, splatoon, mario kart, dk, wii sports and fit, paper mario, nintendo land, tomadachi life, mario party, mario and luigi, and luigi's mansion. + F-Zero 99 tonight maybe

What a week.
aww yeah doin Sedecordle and my starting word was one of the words
transformers fort pack is out physically now nice
Yeah somewhere deep within the inventories of some obscure store
While hilarious, this isn’t a new phenomenon. Piscatella’s tweet mentioned that three new PS Vitas were sold in 2021, and back in 2018, some soul, who clearly has a penchant for self-mutilation, bought a retail copy of Sonic: The Hedgehog 2... for the Game Gear.

This stuff is so fascinating
The sales tracking part is really cool, but also imagine all the old stuff that's still in some obscure store's warehouse
Weirdly the most interesting part to me is that they even got a notification of the sale at all
So I got curious and decided to check my real cartridges of my GB/GBC/GBA Pokémon games. Found that now all but one of them have dead batteries.
At least I backed up their saves.

If you are an AMD customer and play CS2, DO NOT ENABLE ANTI-LAG/+; any tampering with CS code will result in a VAC ban.
Once AMD ships an update we can do the work of identifying affected users and reversing their ...
Why are they detouring functions? I wonder how this works

I'm late to the party, in both meanings of the term
Even though you were late to the party, you were still the life of it. —TF2 Mercenary badge
I forgot to fill in the text but that's 13/100
You've never played Paper Mario?
I can't believe you would betray us like this.
sorry, no 1-2 Switch either
To be fair, Wonderful 101 was an exclusive for 7 years, it's more a Nintendo property than not
And arguably Bayonetta as well, with only one game being cross plat
Nintendo didnt make the game
So im assuming this list includes games nintendo published rsther than made
Seems to be the case. Games like Fluidity and Custom Robo are also Nintendo-published, but not Nintendo-developed.
I still think it's reasonable to include them in the list, though, on account of the fact that they're still Nintendo-affiliated.
Nintendo funded the 2nd and 3rd Bayonetta.
So what I’ve learned is that y’all are all disappointing Nintendo fans.

The realms will tremble under the weight of the Viltrum Empire. #MK1

It will be a feature length movie
If I remember isn't it going to theaters?
That's suprising.
I mean I loved Iron Lung, and while I am ambivalent about Markiplier, I was too old for him during his rise to power, it's clear that this project stems from a genuine love for the game
So pretty happy it's happening
wait it's a movie
