I was in a mission that I did previously in NG, and it was to ||destroy a bunch of enemy forces with a couple of allied pilots||
||At some point the faction we were assaulting contacted me and said "if you kill your allies we'll pay double what they are paying you" so there are differences within missions as well||
It's around ||60|| missions, NG++ missions included
A normal NG playthorugh is probably clocking at around 15/25 hours depending how good you are
Doing everything is going to take a bit, repeating missions is faster the 2nd time around because you already have builds you know how to play and you are better at the game but there are the new missions in the mix and they aren't easy
To be clear with finished I mean I did one finale
Then I looked up how much stuff was in NG+ to gauge if it was worth my time
Which it's how I know what's in there
He was a big hurdle for me
Consider shotguns if you haven't, they are pretty good at staggering fast and also pretty decent at post stagger damage
And it's not difficult to close distance with im in particoular
It took three days, but I finally cought a fly that just leaves one more bug to get and I've cought them all. I also found this while doing so.
I don't have a place to put it yet, so I put it in mobile home storage for the moment.
let the people panic; it'd be funnier that way

''so how broken do we want the game to be?''
''yes''
Lmao
both Gogetas being able to do the stuff they do is still literally insane giving Gogeta 4 a comboable grab is ridiculous
Big green needed that buff even though it's nothing too huge
and Vegetto now hits low first
how can you do that after it's been neutral for so long some poor soul isn't gonna know about the patch and will get mixed into another dimension
the Videl changes are neat but my girl could use some buffs

#HatInTime: all right, I finally caved and got the Nyakuza Metro DLC
Play it in co-op
oh?
This game always seemed interesting, but the early releases were pretty buggy
I sure hope it's polished now
...I don't have one
And it's a desktop
I just beat verstappens time in time trial! @slate star @graceful bridge
Nice!

It was the pro event
This fits oddly well
Me: "Wow, they're adding the pacifist robot Pastcal to Nikke, how the hell did they get that idea?"
NeiR Automata: "Observe."
I didn't expect chest lasers.
Maybe I should have.

not how I expected to be called out by a video game

And then when they ask for your password, type a swear
There's no easter egg for that password
is there one for hunter2
oh hey, 🥚 seal got a sticker
I am going to play Gungrave GORE
Have fun
i see you already got the outfit
it's basically mandatory
I own a hat in time but I have yet to play it
nyandatory
That game has some cute fits
I still can't get over that all of the trains are being pulled around by huge yet adorable cats
haha, interesting 4th wall message
Yeah it's a diagnostic you get when you launch the game
much better angle of the train cats here
It's better on Switch in my opinion. While I have not played it on anything else, I've seen zero glitches or bugs on the switch version and I hardly lag outside the Snatcher's Death Wish missions.
I haven't noticed any bugs or lag
Well I heard someone mention lag so I just wanted to put my 2 cents in lol
only "glitches" I can recall are the occasional getting caught on an odd piece of geometry that every 3d game has, and they've always been easy to deal with so it's just amusing
Have you done any of the Death Wishes? They're brutal and I don't have all of them completed years later...
I remember the one where you fight snatcher's "god mode" for as long as you can hold out, and my record was 8 minutes or something. Then there's the race against time on the train...I don't think I've seen any wishes for the dlc's if there are any but maybe I should redownload it...
I stumbled across one snatcher coin in the metro area so apparently there's that at least
that's perfect
ignore my orb count
i had to do a lot of rolls on the slot machine
Because the skins were behind the slot machine mechanic and you know
i've beaten the game and bought everything else anyway so shrugs
I thought I had too many extra pons stockpiled, but all the new cosmetics the metro sells made them evaporate quickly
What game is that again?
A Hat in Time
Oh yeah, that
''huge yet adorable cats''
that's a bit of a redundant statement /s
big ol' glowing eyes
That reminds me, someone made a mod a long time ago that allowed you to battle all of the bosses at the same time (I'm assuming you completed the main story already, so this hopefully isn't a spoiler). It's honestly insane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gavf3fPKjbs
Can you survive against 6 bosses at once?

Told ya 😉
for a first attempt, I'm very happy with a close call like that
Nice work

I'm delighted you're doing the challenges anyway
oooh he's got harder boss fights
...okay I'm unequipping the laser badge
I was not expecting the first "hard" boss to require an HK/Blasphemous level of focus
this is the stupidest/coolest thing
It's not easy
''Sir! It's one of those street gang punks! H...he's bustin' a move!
''
sure would be nice if he had a health bar though
Oh is that mafia boss?
There might be a boss health bar mod
I gotta reinstal Hat in Time but the 3 games I play religiously take up all my storage and I don't have an sd card...
Yeah but at least the game won't lag
Also he takes the same amount of hits. It's not about damage taken, it's how many hits you can get in, so just count how many it takes and that will be the total every time
I've done it 😏
I probably could do it now that I'm used to the fight, but I wouldn't enjoy it
I expect to call it quits long before I do as many of these as you did
and yes I'm aware Hat Kid has only one real attack so of course it's always about number of hits
actually does the dive attack do the same damage as a regular swing?
It counts as 2 last I checked but don't quote me
hat kid has like 6 ways of doing damage, i dont know if her combos have different damages
or rather I should say, in boss fights you only get a dive opportunity if they want you to have one so it's not like I can really choose to do the higher damage attacks
uh... swing weapon, jump on head normally, homing dive attack, laser badge? what's the 5th?
throw object?
punch, umbrella, mario bonk (ice hat might do different), jump attack, potion hat, laser badge
i had to use it a lot on one of my randomiser runs
everything either just got jumped on or potion'd
Something about the death wishes is that my completionist brain wants to do all requirements of a mission at once when you don't have to. I barely could handle trying to do more than one at a time lol
I think that's the first time I accidentally got a bonus
The second bonus is brutal...better have that sprint hat on
literally touched the hourglass as the timer was saying "goodbye"

10 second train rush is nuts
You have to go for most of the time stoppers
obv, that's not the part I'm stuck on
I'm looking forward to a HiT mod called Project A. I can't mod myself but I've seen the trailer. It's been in development for years now and has slowed production...
Also yeah the train is tuff
unfortunately I'm getting a lot of lag pauses on this level so it might not be feasible
You could reduce your graphics settings so you lag less
Make sure to enable shader precaching
oh yeah, my visual quality slider was clear at the opposite end
"Precache Shaders" is already checked
wow, changing graphics settings mid-level caused the camera to get stuck inside Hat Kid
that's a restart
oh right, since none of you are watching anyway I should kill the stream
True
made it to the lava car
eff you and the train you rode in on
actually very happy I managed that
haven't noticed a single pause since I turned down the graphics so thanks for pointing that out
It's one of the more annoying death wish levels
after all that, Rhythm Jump Studio is nice and chill
When I played the game originally, the only lag I got was an extended freeze in the conductor boss fight
OH COME ON
"IM GOING TO SHOOT YOU IN THE CHEST, HE-MAN! NYEHEHEHAHAHAHA!!!"
this is super annoying
My dad is gonna love this
todd mcfarlane who owns spawn had said spawn would "be coming to the biggest game in the world in october"
Yo, skelator
welp, that time I died seconds before victory instead of just barely making it
the lag is back
would've had it that time if not for lag making multiple hookshots miss
lol, now I glitched into this pipe and can't move
something about death wish is making the game go from no glitches whatsoever to what might as well be Snatcher editing the level just to mess with me

there we go, finally everything worked while I was also performing adequately
(even managed sub-0:30 on getting into the well)
Okay i will admit. Id dig a spawn skin
Ash Williams
this is the closest ive ever gotten to wanting to play Call of Duty
That is also a good character choice
he better have his chainsaw hand and boomstick or it's 0/10
Activison seems to have taken note from fortnite
Get licensed character skins or celebrities in your game for sales and publicity
that death wish time rift was chill enough I went for both bonuses
oooh next up is Quality Time With Snatcher
first try 2:26
fort has had ash williams for like almost a year now
with his chainsaw as a pickaxe, and the backbling is the boomstick
nah, I nearly had a 4 but now this level's also murdering me with lag
real shame that it falls apart so much when it pushes up the challenge
yikes, even regular platforming just broken now
I'm gonna just stop playing tonight and hope it's in a better mood tomorrow, maybe this is one of those problems which only gets bad when the program's running a long time
Hat in Time is a UE3 game, and it shows quite a lot on weaker CPUs
(not UE4, huh)
Rise of the Triad 2013 is another example of a UE3 game that's still a stutterfest on modern CPUs
UE3 stutters for different reasons than UE4 though. It's mostly because developers didn't care much about framepacing back then, while UE4 is shader compilation stutter for the most part (shaders are much more complex than in the UE3 era)
nah its a 2nd backbling
my CPU is apparently a "AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS with Radeon Graphics" at "3.30 GHz"
is that "weaker" by the standards you're applying?
he will probably return around halloween yeah
that's a decent CPU by modern standards, but single-core performance isn't fantastic as it's a laptop CPU with lower clocks
i havent played Fortnite since like, 2020
ah
makes sense
but Ash might make me try it again....
I don't shut down / restart my laptop as often as I probably should so I'm gonna do that tonight and see if that also helps when I try again tomorrow
I just got a laptop with a i9-13900H, and the 6900HS isn't that far away
because that performance was definitely getting worse the longer I played, it wasn't even noticeable until several Death Wishes in
theres been two different new maps since then
it could be thermal throttling, which is common on laptops. Check temperatures while playing, they shouldn't exceed 90°C (ideally less than 80°C)

2020 was chapter 2
is currently chapter 4 right now, and will be chapter 5 in december iirc
that would make sense, how do I check temperature?
holy hell
Coretemp
LibreHardwareMonitor can do this for both the CPU and GPU, including graphing
alternatively, use RTSS for a in-game overlay

I've never played Fortnite, I would probably give it a fair chance if I had more time but I have enough games to play already 😛
oh boy, one of those download pages where the download link goes to another download page with more links to download pages
what is the actual file you're suggesting
"Download Version 7.3.4 Final"?
it kinda sucks optimus prime was battle pass only for last season
so now people who like transformers will only be able to get megatron and bumblebee
oh and optimus primal
@slim thorn oh I see, there isn't a standalone download for RTSS… you can get it as part of MSI Afterburner (which works on any GPU, not just those made by MSI)
Yeah
We always suggest that you download the latest full beta package of MSI Afterburner which always includes a stable build of RTSS - Download here.
MSI Afterburner also does clock/voltage/fan control for the GPU if you need that
I have no idea what I need lol
You don't need clock or voltage control.
Fan control might be nice in some situations but in your case I'd just get MSI Afterburner and not use it. Just use RTSS to monitor
Doomguy was also battle pss only wasnt he
yeah, pretty much. RTSS is independent, it just happens to be bundled with Afterburner
I wish MangoHud had a Windows equivalent (it's more "no-frills" compared to RTSS), but alas
(Steam Deck uses MangoHud for its performance overlay)
Download Version 7.3.4 Final [ 3097434 downloads ] should work too
eren yeager as well
Its very noticeable on me2 and 3 which run that ironically
luckily theyve been doing these sort of "mini passes" as of recently with certain collabs in them, which arent locked and will be able to be in the shop after the mini pass itself ends
like with the clone troopers and darth maul and stuff
which are usually a couple weeks long
and let you earn stuff in them from challenges
i see
also
todoroki is coming as well
looking to be pretty solid as a lineup for the next MHA collab
maybe theyll do Tsuyu as well
Like I said, my record is 8+ minutes

I’m definitely not aiming that high
if the game’s smooth tomorrow I’ll probably make another attempt at 4 though, maaaybe 6 if that goes well
I have finally caught every bug in new horizons.
https://youtu.be/gbd2mFwbcSk?si=nStLJ2Ub8Td2M660 man I don't know when build 42 is coming out but its genuinely awesome to see all the features they're working on
Build 42 has been in the works for a long time, so in this video, I'll cover everything we know about Build 42 so far for Project Zomboid! This video aims to recap various pieces of information and news we've seen in the past all in one place.
Enjoy!
------------------------------------- Important Links ----------------------------------------...
Is that a Simslike?
Ah
It does have some Sims inspiration though
It's the sims post zombie outbreak
I can tell, the aesthetic is extremely Sims 1
But there's no npcs yet
I heard some people talking about this game at work yesterday
It's fun but I don't enjoy the zombies
Its a great game, its got one of the best cooking and crafting systems I know
Most games tell you to get the one specific kind of meat to make specifically beef stew or chicken stew
Zomboid is just like "you got some stale chicken, beef jerky, half a can of corn and some random herbs you found on the ground? Put it in a pot and boil up a delicious stew"
It just works
Honestly I kind of agree lol
Not that the zombies are at fault, they're very well done
I just wanna build a base, set up a farm, fish and chillax
Yeah
Actually funny you should say that, someone modded in the sims 1 neighbourhood into the game lol
I'll try to find the link
Ha yes
Ha nice
See you in 6 years.
releasing more than a decade after announcement, nice
I just hope Skyrim Grandma can last long enough to play and see herself in it.
Announced 6 years ago but only development now? Christ I hope we don't have a cyberpunk situation
And maybe, just maybe, they will be done before Star Citizen is out.
It has been sent to the future, by the Elder Scroll
I think it was mainly to get a bit of goodwill right after the fallout 76 launch
Beth's thing tends to be putting the majority of resources into one thing and when that is nearly done, they'll switch people over. There has been a skeleton crew working on it since announcement, but I suspect folks have transitioned over to this project now.
Yeah they really should have waited till after starfield to announce ES6
I feel they just did it so they could get people to stop asking about it
lmao
Silksong
prime 4 if its out wont be until the new console
It is year 2030, Metroid fans are playing Prime 4, Elder Scroll fans playing TES6, and PMD fans still coping
Yeah, they've been in preproduction with a small team since the announcement.
Preproduction tends to take two or three years, but if it's a huge game and the team is relatively small because the studio's primary focus is elsewhere (Starfield) then it'll take longer to start ramping up.
Gotta write the scripts at some point
...and Half Life 3 is still not released
I suspect the main plot and scripts are done. Lots of side stuff, rigging, and the like probably aren't and need the extra hands to make it go.
PMD fans:
Yeah, side quests are often written during primary production
Once you actually have the skeleton of the world you're building, you then have the sandbox in which to make those side quests in the correct context
this sure is one fun game man
I remember unlocking the final color for this character and thinking ''please be a redhead please be a redhead''
and it was
this has to be one of my favourite tracks from this game, at least from the ones I unlocked so far
the vibes are immaculate
yeah :(
are Mina and Kirishima a thing in BHA? they have cute chemistry and I stopped reading the manga during the la brava arc

@wind stump nerd
neat
This is a vaguely familiar wea pon
Not the one I was thinking of (the one i was thinking of was the Nameless Blade which is your starter weapon in Replicant) but it's pretty close.

good name
Should be Elephant Daisy art instead
I can run AHiT on max settings with little fuss!
I know that doesn't sound like much but YAAAAS MY RAM IS POWAH
I loved what I saw with Mario Bros Wonder
So is this only wonder being shown today
It's short, sweet, and to the point about the gameplay and the changes to expect
Starfield review embargo lifts in about an hour
Then will see if it’s worth it or canceling orders time
Very excited to see this.
Reviews are out
oh this should be entertaining
I'm gonna avoid all reviews and just play it on Gamepass
IGN gave it a 7/10, game informer a 8.5
i suspect we need a starfield thread tbh
There is I think
OUCH
Review embargo is lifted
People are already streaming the game

"doesn't even really get going" until after the main quest 130 hours in
Wooooooooow..............
Man, how disappointing.
Welp, I can stop watching PC building videos now. No need for one.
im gonna wait for user reviews anyway, maybe watc someone else play it for a bit
Oh no
i wasnt joking about this btw
for a game as hyped as this, from a company like bethesda, you'd expect 9's atleast, even if they had to buy those 9s
Yep, that's my thinking as well
tho these reviews are worth nothing tho, we all know new vegas got a metacritic score of 84% and thats just factually incorrect
meh
I don't trust reviews from big places like IGN and GI
I want the individual end user experiences
not those who had press preview copies
I don't trust any_one_'s review
Without any context, does Starfield live to expectations?
And was the wait really worth it?
That's waht we're all asking ourselves this moment.
I think expectations of it were trending towards cyberpunk/no man sky levels
At least the reviews so far have said it's indeed their least buggiest game yet?
Queue the millions of bugs people will find on release
TheVerge's review of the game is good
their least buggiest game yet
high praise indeed
i dont belive it in the slightest tho
i'd buy it now just for the novelty factor
The Verge's review:
Starfield is polished like no game from the studio before
heh
You just know that the hardcore bethesda gamers will immediately stumble upon the most game breaking bugs of all time
i dont belive it
literally incapable of trusting that news
Bethesda knew they couldn’t fuck up after how bad the fallout 76 launch was
i mean that's fine if exploits are found. Those are fun.
I posted The Verge's review in #1117577147167539220
Also microsoft needed this to be good
Yep
Is this the rise back of Bethesda after Redfall?
We dont talk about redfall
Starfield has been Todd's baby from the beginning
He wasn't gonna let it fail
That was probably just something MS made them push out to try and get a live service game going
Not even the bethesda dev team wanted to work on redfall lmao
Now ill be able to finally put that game pass sub to use and play starfield
Redfall was greenlit when Bethesda was still part of Zenimax, and they were chasing the loot/shooter trend. Then Microsoft acquired them and were fairly hands off, then pushed them to release it early 'cause it would be a waste to put any more money in its development. That's what I've gathered
Volition Games is closing, effective immediately https://t.co/Dob9NBW7He
631
202
I believe Zenimax also pushed Redfall out of the original design and the studio kind of lost all passion for it. Arkane are very talented and Redfall is a case of a publisher ruining the game.
Yeah, because the folk who did Prey and Dishonored are clearly the people who need to make a loot shooter
this is one of the worst parts of all the consolidation happening in the games industry rn
larger groups just buying up smaller companies, fucking them up and dissolving them
man that genuinely sucks to see
then shuffling their IPs and talent around
Then again, in the last decade or so we've seen developers starting to take back some of that power
Like, Bloodstained ROTN is a great example
developers basically making another game in their series without the IP and it still being really good
GOD
FUCKING
DAMMIT.

cries in Red Faction
Probably has to do with the saints row reboot being a flop
Welp, sounds like Baldur's Gate 3's position as "best RPG of the year" and possibly "game of the year" is solidly confirmed.
Rpg of the year yes
im confused isn't 7/10 a pretty decent score
Goty. Will depend probably of Mario Wonder
Decent, but not nearly enough to beat BG3's 9.5/10s and 10/10s.
video game reviews have a big problem with score inflation
I would trust GI scores more than IGN, personally
BG3 has a 96 on Metacritic
I don't think anything is beating that
But they’re merely just approximate thermometers
my current goty is TotK, but Super Mario Bros Wonder may take the title for me idk yet
1 to 4 is generally considered "bad", 5 to 6 is "serviceable", 7 to 8 is "good", and 9 to 10 is "damn near perfect".
the game of the year is Goodbye Volcano High
I thought 1-4 is "so bad we normally wouldn't be reviewing this but"
Visual story maybe
Typically major publications don't give 1-4s unless something straight up doesn't function
Totk came and went after like a month or two.
I don't think that Obsidian or BioWare have possibility to make a game which will be better as "best RPG of the decade"
nice to see Quake 2 so high
Especially Bioware

Bioware definitely could.
https://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/all/filtered
oh hey look at that
TotK tied BG3
just depends on the direction they take
Watch Mario Bros Wonder somehow sneak it's way up there lol
Its telling some of the best rated games are all just remakes or remasters of older games
Says something about the current state of the industry
its more about the process of reviewing a remaster, I think
I could see Mortal Kombat 1 also sneaking it's way up there
Q2 remaster fixed most issues with the original game
at least TotK and BG3 are more "sequels" than "remakes"
Like you don't give the HD port of Tony Hawk's pro skater a bad score bc the gameplay of the first pro skater game is outdated
I know
this was a bold move in many ways, most remasters try not to touch gameplay at all
it's also a free update on PC
This year is definitely not the year you go "look at the sorry state of the industry" for me
I honestly believe that it's gonna be BG3 vs TotK for GOTY this year.
It's been an insane year
There's only a single game in all time on Metacritic that has reached a 99
What about 100?
Nothing has a 100
It is if you look at all the attempted multiplayer titles
Damn
afaic this has been the best year for games since 2017
What's the 99?
The 99 is Ocarina of Time for the N64
Single players are highest rated for a reason
Deserved.
I am waiting on TGA battle about People's Choice beetwen Genshitn ot Honkai Star Rail against BG3
even among indies, my favorite actually-released-this-year game is a sequel
Very much deserved
2017? What did 2017 have again
Botw
how to overrate a game 😛
I think 2004 and 2007 are more comparable
This will be battle beetwen casino and game industry
Why not? If a product is rereleased in a certain year you are going to get compared to what is out at that time, you're expecting people to spend their money on a product, if the same money can be spent at that time on something better then you should make it clear to consumers if that is the case.
out of the big 3 N64 games, OOT is the one I find the least interesting by a wide margin
but nearly everything I've played in 2023 came out before 2023, and I think that's normal for me, so I've never had much of a clue how the years compare to each other
Ironically this year we had some of the best games for a good while
BotW and Mario Odyssey are the games i mean
And we had some of the biggest failures like redfall
Because it can be argued that if you're playing an HD remaster of a playstation 1 game that you should know what you're getting into before you buy it. The developers aren't promising remastered gameplay they're promising an updated visual port of an old skateboarding game.
Some of the best games ever of you ask me
...and that's it, botw was basically a shoe in for goty
2016 was probably one of the better years for video games of the last decade
The scale is 6 to 10.
Honestly im just happy BG3 got the triple a industry scared
I remember looking back on that year and noting that the nintendo games were basically it
Armored Core 6 might very well be the best game in its genre
and only 4 games have hit 98
- PlayStation Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
- PS3 Grand Theft Auto IV
- Dreamcast SoulCaliber
- Xbox 360 Grand Theft Auto IV
https://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/all/filtered
Just like how you wouldn't give an Uber driver less than four stars unless they actually fucking kill you.
To a certain extent but if you are expecting people to spend money on something not updated much of at all then you should make sure ton price accordingly, and some companies don't do that. You charge full price for a HD version of an old game, you should totally be compared with other games of the dame price at that time of release.
2016 had dishonored 2, xcom 2, civ 6, stardew valley, planet coaster, WoW: Legion, Dark Souls 3, Titanfall 2, Watchdogs 2, the Hitman reboot, Kirby Planet Robobot, HOI4, Killing Floor 2,
and ??? BotW and Odyssey are like the best games ever
AC6 was a good revival of the series after a decade hiaatus
THPS2 on PS1 is also the worst version, not sure why it's this high
I prefer Galaxy to Odyssey
Then you can rate a game badly on the concept of price vs value
but most studios rating remasters don't tend to do that
Dreamcast version was much better, or even better, THPS2X on OG Xbox
BG3 was a wakeup call for many, and now fans don't want to hear anymore excuses from lazy devs (they do exist) and greedy companies.
Because the quantity of goty quality games that year wasn't very large, because those 2 were it
there were more good games that year
Resi 7 and Horizon Zero Dawn were the stiffest competition
Nier Automata, re7, horizon zero dawn
Resident Evil 7, Hollow Knight, Night in the Woods, Heroizon Zero Dawn, Cuphead, and Mass Effect Andromeda came out that year, lots of great games ^^
in 2017? Umm, that year had Sonic Mania, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Divinity: Original Sin II, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Rez Infinite, Cuphead...
What. Nier Automata was from 2017?
Christ, I'm old. I thought it was from much earlier.
Oh was div 2 that year? Thats crazy
...huh it also had persona 5
The PS4 port yeah
hollow knight
F`CK, yes, D:OS 2, Sonic Mania, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Cuphead! Jesus, so many good games in 2017. We were feasting.
yea
We just lost Volition Games though!
2017 was also very good yeah
2017 was better than 2018
which mostly just had Spider Man and Monster Hunter World
Though 2019 picked up afterwards and had a lot of good releases.
2019 was a killer year looking at it.
My GOTY of that year is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, yes it's deeply flawed, yes it's the weakest of the 3 mainline Xenoblade titles, and I don't care I loved that game and it got me back into JRPGs in a big way. Torna is an incredible DLC expansion though, arguably better than the main game in many ways
funny how 2017 and 2023 share a Zelda game
2019 had Control, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Outer Worlds, Resi 2 remake, Mortal Kombat 11, Death Stranding, Remnant from the ashes, Kh3, Borderlands 3, pokemon swsh,
dmc5
Link's Awakening remake
2020 had Hades so everyone else can go home
i liked Minecraft Dungeons
2020 did have other good games but like, it's a good year off of Hades alone.
Launch title and swan song for its respective console ironically
Huh
i think hades is just ok
Though 2020 did also give us New Horizons, Spider Man Miles Morales, Crash 4, Nioh 2, Astro's Playroom, Bugsnax
lol, I think KH3 was the only one of these I played in 2019 (I've since played Outer Worlds and RE2:RE and Death Stranding, maybe someday Three Houses)
In 2019 I played Fire Emblem Three Houses, Outer Worlds, MK11, Pokemon, and Bl3
and boy did I play fire emblem lol
it was my first FE game and I put like
100 hours into it the first week I had it
Good, now maybe they will form a new company and stop remaking the same game for the last 10 years and make something new.
Sorry never thought Saint Row was ever especially enjoyable, Red Faction wad easly their best and most original work.
I did not sleep when I got that game
Simply put, it doesn’t get any better than this. No other year had the absurd amount of industry-shaping releases the way 1998 did. From Nintendo, we got the near-perfect “Ocarina of Time” as well as North American releases for the original “Pokémon” games. PlayStation saw the seminal sequels “Resident Evil 2” and “Metal Gear Solid.” Over on PC, “Half-life” turned Valve into an adored developer, while “StarCraft,” “Baldur’s Gate,” and “Grim Fandango” are still some of the most beloved entries in their genres. There were also a ton of games that, while not groundbreaking, were supremely fun to play like “Mario Party,” “Banjo-Kazooie,” and “Spyro the Dragon.” It was a marvelous time to be a player.```
lol
ironically my first FE was the first FE released in English, and I only got through maybe half of it
I've never played any of the ones older than awakening
nor do I want to, they dont have the best parts.
Nintendo and Valve should make a game together
Legend of Zelda: the Half Life Princess
I would unironically pick any year in the last 10 years over 1998
I'll probably get to Awakening eventually but atm that's a thing I do with Tale and she's been busy lately, we've "only" made it through three FEs so far
I'm glad I played Awakening on PC and not original hardware so I could mod it easily
otherwise the game has almost zero same sex support conversations because all the supports existed for the stupid child mechanic
...I'm so sorry
Lmao
I play Fire Emblem as a lesbian shipping simulator.
until approximately last year I was unaware that was a thing
now I am extremely aware
That's my issue with most games inspired by FE
They take the tactical gameplay, which is cool, but they dont take the support system
The support system is why I'm here!
maybe you want a visual novel then?
Are there good non Switch fire emblem inspired titles?
I mean, I like making my characters fight stuff.
Triangle Strategy
Triangle Strategy is to Fire Emblem what Octopath Traveler is to Final Fantasy if you're famliar with Octo
octopus
there are some visual novels with a gameplay component, how stuff gets classified eventually comes down to the emphasis, e.g. if you regularly go 10+ hours without any gameplay it's probably a VN (and I've read/played multiple excellent VNs like this)
Give me one visual novel where I can matchmake all the other characters. Also I do like the sections with combat they're just something to do in between making my units kiss.
I should try triangle strategy when it's not the literal "all my most anticipated games are releaseing now" month
ok that's fair
I guess september is a big month for releases
Starfield, Lies of P, Payday 3, Mortal Kombat
I enjoyed it but it wasn’t for everyone.
How old are you, if I may ask?
Silksong
silksong? releasing? incredibly funny
about 23
Yeah i enjoyed the games
That explains it then
speaking of goty indie sequels

yeah Im not using nostalgia goggles to judge games from the 90s as peak
like B2 I probably won't realize Silksong is actually coming out for realz this time until one day before it happens and someone here mentions it
Not so much nostalgia, but I did play a lot of those at the time. And there were a lot of great games at that time so I don't really see fault in 1998
Denzy's been playing that one, and I've seen a playthrough of it. Simply put, the story is actually spectacular, with everyone being very well-written and every character feeling unique. The choices you make in that game do matter, and very drastically change the game's ending and even the entire plot as you progress through it. As for the combat, it's very much like Shining Force, which is one of the main reasons why I want to get it myself. I love the Shining Force games, and I consider Triangle Strategy to be a perfect successor.
Lots of the 1998 titles are definitely games that are harder to enjoy going back
MGS, Resident Evil 2, and Starcraft for example if I never played them I probably would not be able to get past how 1998 they play.
is Triangle Strategy one of those squeenix games that everyone who plays it loves but they basically forgot to market it so the rest of us keep forgetting it exists?
You could get Starcraft: Remastered. It's classic Starcraft but with a modern look, and frankly, that's enough. It's a great game all on its own.
It very much is a hidden gem from Square Enix.
Or the Carbot starcraft skin
YEEEESSSSSSS
think octopath traveler
its like that
Yeah, basically
Are you ready to go all the way? StarCraft: Cartooned is available now!

well its the same studio
I had the unusual experience of playing RE2 original and remake back to back both for the first time, and IMO both are great but the original had some pretty serious jank that's a complete non-issue with the ahem modern camera+controls of the remake
You'll be interested in the podcast series called The Video Game Required Reading List, which is an attempt to look at videogame history and listing the 25 most industry-defining games that will help you form the best understanding of what shaped today's videogames.
Starcraft Remastered still play kinda like 1998 tho, the pathing is pretty aids and the only reason it's acceptable is that it's like the original one and we love it the same way a mother love a ugly son
What do you mean by how 1998 they play exactly?
OG RE2 is funnily enough one I haven't played all the way through but having played og RE3, RE1R and MGS1 all the way through I can honestly say I loved them
Maybe it's just tastes I just never had issues with those games
Tbf, South Korea is the reason why Remastered plays the same as the original, because they are still leaders in the Starcraft e-sports, and they would've boycotted the game if anything had changed in the AI.
Tank controls are an acquired taste
in particular, some of the RE2 final boss fights literally did not work for me in the original game
MGS1 has some... controls.
you can't say that out loud
MGS1 is fine though?
what's weird about its controls?
oh boy
Listen, it's good for a ps1 game
it's been too long since I played the MGSs, I'm not getting into that one lol
That qualifier at the end is exactly why I think its unfair to give best year in gaming to 1998 lol
I wouldn't say its good good
Yes. It might not be that fun to play now, but it's shaped the history of videogames.
"For a ps1 game", so they have a lower standard

First time I'm hearing these types of opinions honestly so it's a bit surprising for me
I think it's extremely fair, all those games are exceptional, and they did chart the direction of the gaming industry in pretty seminar ways.
Also controls isn't the only part of a game
They were important to what came after them, but is it fair to call them the best because of it?
MCELROYS MENTIONED 🥳🥳🥳
The Twin Snakes remake on the gamecube had the mgs2 controls instead, and it made it super easy because you could easily snipe everyone with your pistol from afar
There are better games released afterwards that built on what those older games did
We don't talk about Twin Snakes
and I'd much rather play most of those
MGS 1 writing might still be top 10 writing of all times, Starcraft 1 was still when Blizzard was good at telling stories, etc5
I played Ocarina of Time this year and I still think it deserves its metacritic rating as the top of all time
I can't judge LoZ games because I haven't really enjoyed any of them.
Also to be clear, while the controls are a barrier, it doesn't mean they aren't functional once you learn them.
They just aren't intuitive because they don't fit standards that were set years after they came out, but that doesn't mean they are bad.
I just understand why someone wouldn't be able to overcome that barrier in 2023.
Yeah, I listen to their podcast regularly
Except Starcraft pathing
That's bad

Try to control 7 dragoons in tight corridors and come back to tell me it isn't
For tank controls I can maybe understand because weak people get filtered by them (this is a joke)
but putting MGS1 in there too is surprising to me because it doesn't even have tank controls so it surprised me
Hell I think the VR missions are a ton of fun I completed all of them when I put MGS1 on my PSP
tank controls are in an especially odd position when it comes to revisting old games because they're almost inseparable from always-fixed camera angles in practice
often you can't get used to just one and then the other, it's usually both or neither
Depends on how old, there were some games that used one or the other and not at the same time but those were during the 2000s
like SH4
and people hated it
funnily enough
right, I'm speaking vaguely of all the games I've actually played and think most people have played
there's always exceptions
oh I've never touched an SH after 1-3
Silent Hill 4 is worth playing.
even playing all of 1-3 was already a significant "retro gaming" time investment for me; all of this was long over when I showed up
but the controls are ass.
People usually defend it as like, survival horror is supposed to have clunky controls, which there's an argument for
I think that mgs weirdness was more that you wouldn't do any of what you do in those games the way you do now.
The shoulder buttons for items, the stiffness of Snake and the inability to shoot on first person are all kinda weird for the genre as it is now
but it does feel really bad to use.
the argument I will make is that survival horror games often benefit from the player character having more restricted movement and multitasking than many other genres, e.g. even in the more-action-y Resident Evil 4 you can't move and shoot at the same time (which was a mind-blowing concept when I first played it because I'd never played older survival horror lol)
but restricted and clunky are two different things
I still hold the opinion that tank controls on a TPS is a genius idea and they shouldn't have ditched it
yeah I'd say Resident Evil is closer to restricted whereas despite Silent Hill games being great, their controls are often just bad to me.
I love those games and I am happy we aren't doing tank controls anymore
resident evil 3 remake showed there's giving someone too much freedom of movement in a horror game though
dodge rolling master Claire can't take damage in that game
The Revelations games were very good but dammit thanks to those games the RE4 control scheme went away
I am happy that tank controls and fixed camera angles are no longer something imposed upon games by the technical limitations of pre-rendered environments, and therefore they only get used when the developer wants them
I think that pre-rendered backgrounds should make a comeback. They look neat.
I guess it's less about the age of the game and more about their design
omg yes i remember marvelling at some of the backgrounds in Final Fantasy VII
in this case they're inseparable since probably no one would design a game that way in the modern era
I've long since forgotten exactly how MGS controlled, just the vague sense that nothing else controlled quite like it, and that that wasn't a good thing, and actively got in the way of me completing the games multiple times
until MGS4 that is, 4 was just great without any weird asterisks about age
discord decided to die on me, what I mean is that other MGS games also had that type of controls so I don't know how much age has to do with it
seems to me like that's just how they wanted to design the MGS games
MGS4 was when they started shifting into more action shooter gameplay than the more... tactical?? stealth of the previous games
well, I'm including the stealth gameplay in that assessment
whatever subgenre terms people choose to put on them
Oh no not about specific subgenres more the style of gameplay which was more of a third person shooter now unlike the previous games, they're all still action stealth games
One game that did prerendered backgrounds recently that I liked is Tiny Echo
Might and Delight invites you into the ethereal world of Tiny Echo and poses the question – what lives do the little spirits of the undergrowth live? Before we delve further into Tiny Echo, we hope you don't mind us taking this opportunity to tell you about our latest game, the Tiny Multiplayer Online RPG Book of Travels! https://store.steampower...

Playing Portable Ops which took a lot from MGS3's gameplay and playing Peace Walker which took a lot from MGS4's is like completely different experiences
tactical espionage action
Think they actually changed "action" to "operations" because of the base building of peace walker and mgsv
MGR would be tactional espionage shitposting
tactical memeage action
2023 has been a pretty good year for gaming with all the big titles that have come out
I haven't played most games that came out in 2023 (focusing on backlog instead), but I tend to agree
Pretty good is an understatement I feel
2022 was fairly empty in comparison
Yeah especially compared to previous recent years
GT7 was this close to being great, but I don't think a PC port alone would save it given the business model
(progression system is an issue too, even if someone managed to crack the game to let you bypass MTX)
Probably not helped by the pandemic
But now everything is coming out because the pandemic delayed everything
A lot to think of off the bat. Tears of the Kingdom, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, and Mario Bros Wonder. I know Diablo 4 and Baldur's Gate 3 are also notable
Re4, dead space, ff16, spider man 2
Also that harry potter game
That was this year?
Yeah, with Peace Walker you now had to manage an entire base and staff and you had to worry about money and not going too overbudget and min maxing how much you got by putting the correct people in the correct staff groups
with Peace Walker and MGSV I loved just looking up best ways to farm for S rank soldiers to fill up my motherbase with lol
for MGSV there were also guides for farming female soldiers for your staff
I think 2022 was a better year than 2023 so far
we'll need to see what else comes out
Spiderman Miles Morales was one of the very few games that kept me invested in the story all the way through. That's Marvel for you though lol
Hi-Fi Rush, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Armored Core 6
in my case, I've just made more time for video games this year, backlog and otherwise, so it feels like a better year even though I'm not playing most of the games people cite when talking about the year
Super Mario RPG remake !
So far for me 2023 has been Goodbye Volcano High, Diablo 4, Wild Hearts, Fire Emblem Engage, and Octopath 2, and I haven't finished any of those and I only really really like GVH
Oh yeah, Hifi Rush
wait that's a lie I finished Engage
oh are we listing what we played in 2023 now?
I never did get all the way through that game lol
I have an intense fear that it will get snubbed for a nomination due to how stacked goty is this year
I'm just trying to list games that released in 2023 that I care about
which has not been a ton admittedly
I just started Sea of Stars, maybe that'll be something
I even recently started playing New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe and I also got Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
oh yeah Mario 3D World is super good
Even if it wasn't stacked I can see a game like HiFi not even getting nominated but I hope it does because it deserves it
when it came out a lot of us who played it pretty much immediately went ''yeah this is gonna be goty or goty nominee''
Oh yeah, Hogwarts Legacy was February.
Damn, this year has been a KILLER lineup
Pretty sad that they have no plans for any DLC expansions for Hogwarts Legacy =(
There's so much they could do
Hogwarts Legacy, ilk olarak Harry Potter kitaplarında tanıştığımız dünyada geçen, açık dünyaya sahip bir RPG oyunudur. Tanıdık ve yeni konumlarda bir yolculuğa çıkın, büyülü canavarlar keşfedin, karakterinizi özelleştirin, iksir üretin, büyü yapmada ustalaşın, yeteneklerinizi yükseltin ve hep olmayı istediğiniz büyücü olun. 1800'lerde Hogwarts'ı...

Ceos and presidents don't abuse employees challenge (impossible)
Yeah randy is an ass
Embracer group needs to burn
They are not uniquely bad. Please stop playing AAA games
I have a friend who gets on my ass for railing against AAA in general but the fact they shut down Volition has incited my need for arson
Embracer and Tencent are kinda messed up.
/shrug I mean it is silly to collectively dismiss AAA games based on specific complaints from specific games.
I have been trying to not rail specifically against all AAA
it's proving difficult not to
but i am trying
I greatly enjoyed all the AAAs I played this year
the ones everyone gets mad about were never on my radar
True. AAA games that I can't complain about exist. I just can't name any right now.
like i dunno if NieR Automata is AAA but it's good and fun
same x2
Ocarina of Time
and uh
FFXIV
the distinction has been getting increasingly fuzzy as the capabilities of indie developers keep rising
the biggest AAA game i played this year is totk
I think NieR is pretty AAA.
TotK, DS remake, RE4 remake are the ones I'm pretty sure came out this year and are AAA and I played
I definitely want to play Tears of the Kingdom eventually
it's so fun

and everyone has good things to say about BG3 and AC6 which aren't my thing but also aren't indie
Looking through my history, it looks like I also played Skyrim and EU4 too.
Will probably wait a year then play it on yuzu
oh i was just thinking of games that came out this year
uhhhh
ive played many then
Hoyoverse is extremely AAA
(but also evil, so that tracks)
ive effectively been playin one (1) game for a year now bc mmos are Just Like That

but im havin fun so all good
They’re gacha games so I refuse
mmos scare me
They have billions of dollars and thousands of employees. Quality is separate
Exactly. Mobile games with extra steps
you always fear what you don't understand
Lol the earnings for genshin was insane on day one
Apparently they made back all their production costs in a day
let's not equate "mobile" with predatory business models, even if they're more common there
there's plenty of legitimately great mobile games with none of that nonsense, especially in the puzzle and point-and-click genres (although most of them eventually get PC ports on Steam)
my favorite phone game is one thats defunct now n i keep it as apk n if my wifi happens to be on it breaks bc outdated
Yeah equating mobile with predatory business practices is as bad as doing the same with AAA games
but given im offline at work 90% of time n thats the only time i do play on my phone thats ok
I found an old mobile game i use to play and got that working on android emulator
Speaking of mobile games, pox on EA for making Dungeon Keeper into one
Ewww i remember that one
And the recent announcement for yet another mobile C&C
Gimme full games damnit, even AA quality, doesn't need to be AAA!
back to Hat in Time Death Wishes, warming up with Snatcher endurance again, does seem to be lag-free today, first try was a 2:46
I think I'm missing something critical to consistently dodge the red circle chain
The game does have advanced movement mechanics
I don't remember
It's a silly jump and dash thing
You don't need any hats for it
It's difficult to execute and important for speedrunning
yeah I'm not attempting any speedrun tricks
It's an intended mechanic
It's just hard to execute and never explained and you don't actually need it to finish the game
But you're doing the super difficult postgame special DLC
right, but the challenge here is in duration, this attack was in the base game
This movement technique can help you move better
And thus dodge more effectively, rather than hoping you get lucky
do you remember enough to actually link something?
if not I should really focus on it
Let me see
wait, are you talking about jumping out of a dive the moment you touch the ground for an extra speed boost?
FOUR MINUTES
Nice
don't care that counts
I'm listening to https://youtu.be/5Y7ZtjiimNI to make sure
This video is all about movement, in fact it covers every movement option A Hat in Time has to offer for speedrunning. I hope this video can help you get started with speedrunning this game and I hope you will enjoy it :)

and yeah I was always trying for dive boosts though I'm pretty bad at it and focusing more on them would take too much away from noticing the reds are coming at all
Yeah
boss rush would be more fun if the Conductor fight wasn't already a several phase fight
oh the part I kept dying on was his very last phase
That's good
what got me was he has this weird keep away + stun move but uses it mostly in that last phase with the following enemies so being stunned automatically dooms you to taking a hit
there we go, got him on the first try now that I knew to watch for that
that looks so fun
movement based games like this are so good
you know it's good when there's full guide videos on how to do stuff
part of me wishes that nintendo eventually makes a 3d mario maker, because the stuff you see people do on mario odyssey is just insane
It is fun
I am playing through Bomb Rush Cyberfunk pretty hard lately which is the only similar movement based game I can think of that I've recently played, it's not the exact same game but it reminded me of it because there's already guides on how to do movement stuff and guides on stuff the game doesn't tell you about which you'd be surprised
this game has a very ''find out by yourself'' nature where it doesn't tutorialize you heavily which is a nice breath of fresh air but there's also some important things it should probably tell you
Reminds me a lot of Jet Set Radio
It literally just is Jet Set Radio 3
What game
probably not surviving
@white phoenix switching channels to somewhere that makes more sense; did my best to video the filters on these things, but it’s better in person
Well if it was Jet Set Radio 3 it'll just be called Jet Set Radio 3
Shovel Knight
I get the general gist of it through the video, that's pretty wild
don't even know how you would even begin to start implementing such a thing
im going to play Terraria
actually
☝️ it wouldn't because the sequel to Jet Set Radio isn't Jet Set Radio 2 but Jet Set Radio: Future
jet sad radio
I didn't mean it literally is JSR3 but it's not even trying to hide the fact that it's heavily inspired by it and it even has the composer of Jet Set Radio in the list of artists who worked on the track of this game
what is jet set radio

which is fucking amazing

I never even noticed this, but you can apparently play as the earliest Sonic prototype if you get the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game
bro is doraemon
... they patched Dark Souls 1, and among other things took out the dogleg in the invisible pathway on the way to fighting Seethe, so you can just walk straight across that last section
Tmodloader is a modified terraria client
You just load it up like a regular game, yeah
Yeah, just launch it normally
I am not good at finding these dang pages
why is it takint so long
Do you have mods downloaded?
I don't know. It does take longer to load the first time if your CPU is slow
Since it's basically loading Terraria plus a ton of tools that allow mods to work
it loaded yippee
so if i subscribe to mods on the normal Terraria workshop it will be added to tmodloader right ?
the Killing Two Birds fight is so good and I'm so bad at it
No you need to add mods to tmodloader through the in-game browser
I haven't modded terraria in a while so the details are unclear
i see
ok Snatcher, I admit, I cannot beat this fight
if I had a checkpoint halfway through it then probably, but nah 10 attempts is enough
RIP
maybe another day though, it is 100% fair and I just haven't figured out reliable dodge patterns yet
it is until you get into the DLC "Death Wish" levels
which are called that for a reason
Decided to switch to Mupen64 for N64 emulation and it's working pretty good
for example, the Death Wish I'm doing now is a base game level, but if I hurt any enemy I take damage
Excellent
More specifically it's a front-end for it called Simple64
We've been playing multiworld randomized Ocarina of Time at #1119170161518334004 and Bizhawk works great too
omg even the enemies hurting each other counts as damage to me
done, but I feel like I could do a bonus
For those who may be interested but aren't in the channel, #1117577147167539220 unlocks for early access in <t:1693526400:R>.
(plus however long our computers decide to take to decrypt and unpack the game)
Simple64 is pretty good, I just lament its lack of overclocking options
it's the second-most accurate option next to Ares, but not quite as demanding on the CPU
N64 games aren't known for their high framerate, so I always overclock if the gameplay is retained well enough (not necessarily perfectly)
to be fair, I've been doing that with some PS2 games, even
That's correct. Ocarina of Time usually does okay, but slows down to 30ish FPS in large rooms
I still prefer fast forward
OOT is 20 FPS out of the box 😛
Well my FPS calculator must be getting it wrong because I'm getting 45FPS in shadow temple and the slowdown is noticable
Ah, I see
I play with Ship of Harkinian anyway, which can be configured for arbitrary framerate
It has 20 visual frames and 60 input frames
seeing OOT at 120 FPS is worth it. 👀
I can't use Ship of Harkinian because I'm playing Archipelago
It requires the original 1.0 ROM
120 frames???????
The cool things you can do when you can recompile the game
OOT in anything more than like 40 frames feels super weird
oh also, the Perfect Dark PC port keeps on giving: https://twitter.com/Graslu00/status/1697314927000609240
but the pc port has been doing some impressive things with the game
who knows maybe we'll see a fan full remasterization of OOT now that the pc port allows for way more than emulation could allow
some 120 FPS video, if your monitor is fast enough to display it at full speed
My monitor is 20FPS
yay, I'm consistent?
I have no idea if I'm really seeing 120 fps here but it definitely looks odd
especially the backflip animation
crazy how the widescreen and the removal of the colored circles behind the items only showing the sprite itself makes it feel more 'modern' in a way
