so it would ask about them, and span me a simple story about establishing a deal with another settlment but loosing the tools on the way
though he would ask for them again a few times even after i'd given them to him
it was clearly a clunky system and seemed to act closer to an early 90s point and click adventure (i needed to type "i have given me your tools please tell me about these ruins you found" directly)

Reminds me off-topic, but I was watching a streamer play Rimworld and they picked a much colder starting point for this leg of their Archnexus run. It was December (or whatever that term is). Anyway, with that, perma smog, and an event where they agreed to have even colder temps, I made the suggestion to put on the Frost Punk OST, since temps were -20C on average during the day (and hitting -50C at night).
They were fine, but folks coming in asking about hearing the music was great.

Not sure you can call those games embezzlement when many other gacha titles don't put in any effort at all. Sure the method of making money on these titles can be questionable but, they are enjoyable even without any monetary investment and I feel that is the secret behind their success, people are much more likely to sink some money in if they are enjoying something even after spending little to nothing for a fair while.

Well that many AAA publishers thinking people will stomach paying for a game and then making it a live service with more to pay. If you do that you need a watertight game with tons of content to start with and lots of quality content in a well defined road map. Virtually all like that have not had that. Being free to play can help you somewhat, even then that wil only take you so far

The other problem with live services is the time investment. We all only have so much free time and no way could I keep up with more than a few live service games, at most, and that's not factoring in any other games I want to play as well.
