To elaborate as to why I think going back to 2d is a good move, is that literally every 3rd person action game has the exact same platform jumping that PoP pioneered.
When so many games got and implemented what made it unique, it's probably good to go back and make something different than that.

when it comes to older games like the RE games or Final Fantasy I also kinda wish they were more faithful because rarely will audiences nowadays go out of their way to play them, especially if they're '''''''old and clunky''''' so in cases like Resident Evil 3 where the remake was super mixed I would've much rather an RE1 situation even if it's considered safe just so new fans can experience the game and older fans can experience the game but better this time, you can still have changes and still be pretty faithful

It didn't feel that way for me, I feel like all characters are appropriate amounts of corny and cheesy, not as much as a product from the late 90s-2000s, but still pretty good considering the revamped storyline
To me it feels like Leon remained the same amounts of corny idiot while the rest are a bit more serious which makes Leon stand out more when he says stupid one liners
oh and also they played into the fact that he must be incredibly depressed and insane from Raccoon City too which was something that original Re4 kinda touched on but not a lot
RE4 is like a nice line between full overhaul and faithful remake that I very much enjoy and think it's great , but too much on one side like FF7 is too much for me

Ended up having to take a detour for a pale ore, extra mask, second jump
Otherwise it would've been a 2:50ish time
The second jump makes an incredible amount of difference
By the game's own pathing you have to fight the watcher knights after you get the second jump, but I foolishly skipped it by pogo jumping on a background object

personally what i'dve liked to see is the ability to repair weapons
like, you could find a weapon you liked, and when it was destroyed you could get a scrap version of it that could be reforged in towns

so far I've yet to play a game where a durability system was an improvement over just not having the mechanic at all, except for Fire Emblem because the way the weapons work is built around that mechanic (low-tier weapons have less damage but more durability, so you want most units to carry a cheap weapon for trash mobs separately from their high-damage weapons)
