It is a fun one.
ooh, this looks worst than anything i've seen in BotW…
though BotW is an amazing game visually, so it's a shame that ToTK looks a little worst. but then, i've been trying to avoid spoilers, so i hope it's not as bad in other zones
TotK has odd areas that look worse than others…. but isn’t that true of virtually every open world game? Plus the main reason this and BotW look and run so much better than anything Game Freak has put out is because Zelda has Monolith Soft helping out, arguably the most technically adept studio Nintendo has.
This was the studio that managed to get something close to open world running on the OG Wii after all
okay, that's just unfair
I defeat a monster camp, decide to use their fire to rest until morning
Blood moon and I wake up in the middle of a monster camp
The thing that amuses me is TotK actually uses a different game engine to BotW. BotW seems to be based loosely on something like Xenoblade Chronicles X while TotK uses the same engine that Switch Sports and Splatoon 3 uses.
interesting
i also had a blood moon which battling a monster camp, but i knew it was coming because i kept deferring it to the next midnight by being in a shrine at midnight
it was pretty fun actually
that's true
So that was something...
oh nice, myhouse. I watched that power pak video last night
looks super duper cool
I love browsing RE4 mods

i think i do remember reading about it
MyHouse Excited to finally release this tribute map. Last August I lost a good childhood friend of mine and took it pretty hard. Yep
ToTK uses FSR 1.0 (like Switch Sports), which might make it the most sold game to feature FSR in the long run, especially on console. Time will tell 🙂
but yeah, I don't know any open world game that looks good under every circumstance
in general, you should be prepared for open world games to age less well visually than their closed-world contemporaries
GTA V can look pretty meh by today's standards in some areas, something I wouldn't have said in 2015 🙂
No Joon, Eientei is not the American- joke removed
They must be desperate to get people to buy stuff if their offering points with purchases that can buy more games
Speaking of free, look who's back
no director's cut though 😦
yeah it's cheaper than the game would cost you on Steam sale

Oh man I actually have been really wanting to play Death Stranding for a while
what's new on the director's cut?
Some extra side missions that provide lore, and some new gadgets

hmmmm I guess I'll try out the vanilla version first
I think it's worth the 5 bucks personally, having played both
You can also easly transfer the save between the two which is nice if you want to pick it up later
Oh apparently I had already snatched Death Stranding for free before? It's already in my library
It probably is but I might want to at least try out the vanilla version and see if things work correctly before that
Well you have 6 days to decide, I think 😛
i guess I'll snag it

some nice deals here, thanks guys
I forgot there was even a SS2 re-release planned
The first one remake still needs to he released lol
I set up a modded version recently, but I had to run it on Windows as it failed to even start on Linux via WINE for some reason
(Thief with TFix works great via Proton in comparison)
Firmament has launched, and it's got a 10% discount for the first week if anyone's interested. So far the reviews are mixed, but it's mainly because the VR support isn't so great and is in desperate need for optimization. So far though, standard playing seems to be enjoyable for most players (aside from the occasional animation or shadow glitch), and the puzzles seem to be fun.
Personally, I'd wait a few days just to be safe though. https://store.steampowered.com/app/754890/Firmament/

I'm not in the right mood for another Myst/Quern/Obduction right now anyway
haven't even gotten to Jedi Survivor yet
I've been looking forward to Firmament, I'd just need to find the time for it.
I feel like I just finished Obduction even though I'm pretty sure that was several months ago
these games take a lot out of you
I wish I could forget that and try it again legit
Riven was and still is THE puzzle game. The pinnacle. The ultimate.
None have ever come close.
I cannot wait for the remake.
the irony being I remember it too well to ever replay it
“Thank god you’ve returned, I need your help…”
That's me and grim fandango. Love the game to bits, still consider it my favorite of all time... but I know every nook and cranny of it
So i need to wait like a decade to replay it
there's probably large parts of Riven I could replay, but a few of the hardest puzzles I still remember the solution to, especially the ||fire marble press||, so overall it'd be kinda pointless
i remember most solutions to Portal 1 and 2 puzzles but still replay those a ton
The cry for help that eventually created many more cries for help.
WOOOO Firmament is out. shame I have a full day of work and TOTK to play before I can get to playing it
Firmament looks sick. I love Cyan. I cannot wait for the Riven remake. It's my fave of theirs.
yeah i have always loved cyans games
i love puzzle adventure games
while i really want to play it i think TOTK comes 1st since ive already started that
I don't get it
Building cars was the main gimmick of nuts and bolts, and it was hated by pretty much everybody
Including me
Nuts & Bolts was, in the words of JonTron, "a sin, a true sin against the entire gaming community".
They ruined a lot of other stuff too
Nuts & Bolts was an affront to nature
like
the artstyle and shit is there, you could have easily made Banjo Threeie but instead they made this abomination
It actually started as Banjo-Threeie
Fellas, is Banjo Kazooie a metroidvania?
Then they made the car gimmick because, in the words of the game itself, "gamers only want to shoot things, so let's make it so that they build things instead".
NO WE DONT WE WANT TO GO ON A FUN COLLECTATHON PLATFORMING ADVENTURE WITH KAZOOIE AND HER BOYFRIEND
I want to say so because putting things into categories is funny
I think it is, actually
You explore to find power ups and keys that let you explore some more.
Like stop ‘n’ swap
what is Rare even doing these days
Sea of Theives season 9
is Sea of Thieves good
I haven't played it
I've heard it's utterly fantastic with friends, and especially with drunk or high friends.
It certainly isn't bad, it's just very silly and goofy.
Regardless of Sea of Thieves quality, it's kind of sad that we get all of those legenday development houses forever chained to making a liveservice game forever and ever now.
I saw gameplay videos of it. I found it fun.
Unironically, happy that Anthem and Redfall flopped so maybe we wont lose Arcane and Bioware to that as well
Not to say you can't make a liveservice and also develop other games on the side, but I do feel that's pretty rare
I think so, yeah. It’s pretty fun.
Yep, I can confirm it’s very good for that.
It’s exactly the sort of fun multiplayer experience that you play with either well coordinated friends or super silly friends
Sad that Toys for Bob is stuck in the call of duty minepits
i remember my high school friends being really excited for Anthem and then like a week after it came out i never heard about it again
I'd LOVE to see them make a new Spyro game once they get out of the pit of despair.

better have a reef blower in it
Beyond Sea of Thieves they are supposed to be working on a new title called Everwild but beyond the odd trailer that tells us nothing it’s been in development hell for a while. Not exactly a great sign when Rare themselves admitted they weren’t even sure what Everwild even is as a type of game or concept.
used a command to give ammo cos theres no fodder
ah cool
so this is what true hell looks like

The Podracing team sat right next to the Grim team at LucasArts. Once, hanging out in their office, I asked, "What credit are you going to give me on Podracer?"
"Why would we give you a credit? You didn't do anything to help make this project!"

Microsoft has stated that they’ll “wait and see” but they have not ruled out making a branch solely for the uk to maintain their current games and just skip out on releasing new ones their if they dont approve it.
That makes sense
I knew that was gonna happen, lol
The amount of money from the us china and EU would make up any lost revenue
The UK really doesn't have any amount of stopping power here against them. They're not in the EU, and they're isolated from everyone else.
Really at this point were just waiting to see what the US says
The UK may ultimately change its position, but who knows how that will play out.
I thought the US is behind it?
It likely will their own government officials told the agency to reconsider the economic consequences
The ftc sued to stop the deal citing monopoly concerns
If they can alleviate said concerns the us will approve it.
According to Wikipedia, the FTC rejected it as of late 2022
But that could change
Still up in the air
On January 18, 2022, Microsoft announced its intent to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion in cash. Under the terms of the agreement, which were expected to close by Q2 2023 pending regulatory and shareholder approval, Microsoft would own Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, and King under the Xbox Game Studios (Microsoft Gaming) divisi...
Yeah it would be a gamechanger either way FTC decides
If they approve the merger, there will then be a reasonably high chance it will happen
If they keep rejecting it, it will be very hard to actually push
The next Mortal Kombat game has a trailer
Not gonna post it tho cuz its extremely violent

Oh damn they're mad mad
Honestly I'm shocked the CMA had a bright moment.
Well, that's because they're right in this case. This acquisition only benefits Microsoft in the long run, while the ten year clause is nice... you're losing a lot of IPs that could go to other platforms.
The ideal thing is that Activision continues to operate by themselves, even if that means more controversy. Because if MS acquires it, Tony Hawk, Spyro, Call of Duty, Blizzard... many IPs will get consolidated for one company who will pretty much lock it into their ecosystem after their ten year promise.
Does it give time? Sure. But this isn't about time, its about IPs getting locked behind a company. I mean, wouldn't be nice to get more Rare™️ games? Instead they're milking Sea of Thieves. MS is just incompetent with their Xbox Division ever since the Xbox One incident occurred.

Forza is pretty much the only thing I care so far about Xbox, Halo Infinite fell flat but was an okay game, then you have Gears of War which is MIA after getting mobile'd. You have Age of Empires which seems to be the only one bright bulb in the building, and of course Ori but that was because they were acquired after the success of Ori.
I think “Microsoft is bad at handling games” is not a good logic to block the merger, but I understand the concerns about the monopoly
It can be a reason for gamers to not welcome it, but cannot be a legal reason to block it

Not talking legally.
Just in general.
Well you were saying CMA made a good decision. “Just in general” can’t go after that
Oh alright, I guess I can't express the many reasons why point A shouldn't.
Regardless, its a dead horse at this point.
Meanwhile I wonder what would the discussion be if CoD was not a thing
Because Blizzard is like, not really relevant with consoles
I feel like the whole thing is basically "can we allow MS to own CoD"
Didn't Microsoft say they wouldn't really change much with COD? Seems like that was the only significant thing that they cared about when this whole thing started happening, so they wouldn't block COD from going to Playstation or something
To be clear
This acquisition only benefits Microsoft in the long run
Obviously an aquisition is going to benefit Microsoft, why would they be trying to do it otherwise.
The question isn't if it's benefitting Microsoft, the question is if it's conferring an unfair advantage to the point that is should be stopped.
Why are people treating this as a great thing?
Mostly on the hope that Microsoft will do something with the various ips activision has besides call of duty
The have the studios for it
I definitely think of Microsoft as more consumer-friendly than Activision so the acquisition is worrying but I'm still optimistic
Yeah, I think the argument of the people seeing it as positive, is that Blizzard is scariping the bottom of the barrel as far as being anticonsumer in recent years, and they are hoping that being under new managment might mean a reversal of those pratices
Which might or might not be the case
But that's the argument
At worse Blizzard keep being shit, there isn't really much lower they can go anyway
People mostly want Kotick to be out as there's definitely a fair bit of evidence that he has had his hand directly on some design decisions for Blizz games
I don't think people actually care about Kotick
Not to say that it's not something they'd continue now (battle passes, etc, as it seems to be industry standard) but perhaps less so than presently
Kotick has been there for a long time but people didn't care as much until the games were bad
It's the effect on the games that people lament
Yes and no? I mean, it's fact that he and the C suite are the ones pushing towards increased monetization levels. On a different note, he's also the one who directed that Overwatch league should be in the design of NFL teams and whatnot with the buy-ins and whatnot, and less how teams are formed in e-sports (like say LoL and so on). A lot of which can be directly pointed at for the failures of the league itself. And games also started to be shit because of so much focus on COD meaning Blizz didn't always get enough people to do what they wanted, or at least at the pace of release that the C suite wanted. Kotick directed blizz to have faster releases, and we had several years of shit (BFA, Shadowlands, etc) as a result.
And the drop of Heroes of the Storm, Starcraft, stuff like that. The Xbox lead (Phil?) has said how he'd want to see more Starcraft - those are words you'd never hear from Kotick, for example.
"I definitely think of Microsoft as more consumer-friendly" is something I never expected to read.
I've tried to type the reasons why its a bad idea for like five minutes straight but I can't formulate without sounding extremely biased.
I guess I just know that MS is incompetent after using their products for many years. I don't want to go into a further rant so I'll probably stop after here. Regardless I'm sure you think there are some good results that this could occur, and sure there might be some. I just believe that in the long run, it'll come and bite us in the back.
Anyway, update your Minecraft Legacy account to MS account reminder. Or you'll permanently be banished from playing without having to rebuy a license.
Tl;dr: as games became more shit and predatory, Bobby's hand on it became increasingly visible and people want him out. I dunno how you say "people don't care about kotick". Fair amount of other places i've browsed always have a hateboner for him

the only reason I recognize the name Kotick is because of how much people talk up this guy's awfulness
I mean it was Microsoft who introduced us to the world of Micro-transactions with their Xbox 360. Bethesda just kinda made that horse armor dlc and Activision was like "huh... maybe we can go further".
I've never followed this in any detail since it's not like I can influence any of it and most of the affected games aren't my thing anyway
You're not wrong. Bellular did a recent video on Redfall which kinda is on point here. There's a certain level of mismanaging games, Halo Infinite for example fell flat for being released too early and not supported well enough after release. Redfall suffered from Microsoft being TOO hands off after acquiring Zenimax stuff and letting the studio do their things, leading to management of Redfall just making a shitshow of everything
(internal? or mock-reviews were showing double digit higher scores than what the game got. THis was brought to Microsoft leadership, which let them keep working.... real reviews on the other hand... hoo boy)
Microsoft is also such a massive company their track record has tons of good and bad, it's hard to predict how any single future project will go without far deeper knowledge than I have
Redfall is a little unique though, Arkane has had big problems ever since Prey was completed.
Microsoft is on average, relatively consumer friendly in the gaming industry
Now that's a very low bar, but it's also true
Well maybe they should down-size
well, won't dispute that
the crow of judgement
Especially compared to fucking Blizzard
The awfulness is real. All the harassment stuff aside, he's also tried to change the narrative on some games by wanting to buy PCgamer out, oh and also is on record of making a threat of having someone killed

i love this crow
ok that is somehow worse than what I had heard
He's wonderful
Oh he's definitely in the "MONEY NOW GIMME ALL THE MONEY MAKE ME ALL THE MONEY PLEASE", but there's worse, yes
At any rate, the reason I say people don't care about Kotick is that I'm pretty sure none would even know he exists if Blizzard kept up putting out great games and not being so obsessed with getting your wallet
I happen to have a fairly pleasant mental image of Microsoft, probably because my programming work involves using Github day-in day-out which has remained consistently great since MS acquired it
Like, people wouldn't even go to forums to learn he exists
Since the games are so bad, people are looking for explanations, and he is a convenient lightning rod
Microsoft is more consumer friendly than Activision, but Microsoft is not consumer friendly.
It's just that Activision is awful
He is also terrible, but if there wasn't any lightning, people wouldn't even notice he is there
I feel like that's true about most 'bad' people anyways
I guess on an emotional level I didn't "blame M$" for Halo Infinite because I'm so used to everything turning into open worlds for open world's sake and being deeply boring to me as a result despite everyone else seemingly loving it, so that was more of a "wait, for once it's not just me?" moment than anything else
It's rare that the reason for something at a company as big as Blizzard, is one guy
I don't think people blame him for games being bad, I think games being bad just made people want to look deeper and further and they start finding all this stuff that was under their noses the whole time but they didn't care about it before
most people I see talk about Kotick don't really say he's to blame for games being bad but mostly just expose his behavior and just want him out completely and want him to have nothing to do with the industry at all
and the people like him, of course
Yeah, this. Game company is "good", games are good, not predatory? No complaints. Company predatory, tons of scandals, and this dickhead's the ceo? Obviously gonna be a punching bag
As Bobby Kotick's history comes to light, amid continued Activision-Blizzard controversy, the Wall Street Journal lays a LOT of facts bare. Why Jen Oneal left, how she had no hope for the company, and how Bobby's allegedly been sweeping a LOT of things under the rug.

Oh gosh this headlines

Also don't forget Xbox One Always Online DRM, Microsoft demanded that and Sony also wanted to do it. But their absolutely shit-tastic showcase on E3 2013 was so bad that Sony said 'fuck it, lets undercut them'.

Among the top... 5 highest in the game industry, for CEO raises?
Just to confirm, you will be against the merger even if it was not MS, am I correct?
Correct.
If this was Apple, sure it would really help them... but holy fuck everyone would get mcbucked.
So fuck that.
If Google, I would find it wasteful.
To be clear, the people are positive about it only because Blizzard is really bad that going to bad to just "not great" would be an improvement, not because it'd be good
Activision exists by the mere fact of independence and telling Atari to go heck themselves.
An indipentend blizzard made Diablo Immortal
idk why would you compare it to Apple and Google, usually it is compared to Sony
oh no are we actually digging up the Atari lore
Which is like, egregiously monetised
Because those at any point, could retry or enter the market.
There is nothing stopping them, with the exception of anti-trusts. Maybe Google can't get it. Apple though....
Sony would get some benefit, sure... but I'd prefer games to be multiplatform for all.
I would definitely dislike for Sony to pick it up
if it wasn't for Nintendo we'd actually have a console monopoly already
Instead of some hypotetical cloud gaming one 10 years from now
Honestly I'd rather Nintendo do it, even if it meant I wouild never be able to play a Blizzard game forever
At least they treat they employees like humans
Not quite their customers I feel, but well...
"Wait, that's illegal."
I mean that can still happen
That'd be kinda cool...
HotS+Smash would be the ultimate collab
Lich King Arthas on Smash would be cool
Steam tends to be slow with updating their percentages
On steam itself they can say 1% of people own an achievement, when in reality it's more like 5%
This is especially true if the achievements are like, brand-spanking new
Most of the time if you grab a newly added achievement it shows as 0.1%
I'm going to assume the higher number is the more correct one since it matches the achievement page

Microtransactions are entirely optional
Actual scores for the game are like 8/10, 8.5/10, etc
Game might be good but do I want to support this?
Probably not.
Also why is it a live service?
Like how Forza is a live service. More content and modes as time goes on.
I mean, they could have done that with expansions and dlc.
For example, right now you can't share your own creations but that's planned for a future free update.
That's what they're doing.
Does the game force online connectivity at launch?

Oh you picked up a rupee
Now you leave the game alone for hours and you'll go through wall

Oh you don't know it
didn't you already finish?
Basically TP has this weird glitch, Link's item acquisition animation lacks a single frame, which pushes Link backward ever so slightly everytime it loops
And during that animation, Link does not interact with walls
theres a "speedrun" where you pick up the least amount of items in the game and part of it is that you're slightly moving during the pickup cutscene, at a specific point during the early game you can abuse it by wating a short (read, multiple hours) and clip though the starting gate into the lost woods
So if you leave the game alone for hours and hours in that cutscene, he goes through walls
which saves you picking up a key

Twilight Princess has a speedrun that takes 25 hours called Low%, an incredibly strange speedrun with some interesting glitches used to complete it!

part of the reason I felt like replaying this is it's sort of the exception
but you are comparing it to some of the best games in gaming
the usual criticisms I hear for TP is that it's way too linear and too 'standard', but you just can't beat the epicness of that game and the best companion in the franchise
the characters and world of TP are super unique too
oh yeah TP is basically the formula ocarina of time set up but mastered
TP's Hyrule is super cool
I like linear
idk about best companion though, I really like Navi and Fi
Oh, look at that everyone! Here we see the frustrated gamer in his native environment, watching as his hopes and dreams for treasure are dashed against the rocks while the developers snicker behind their binoculars in their hidden bushes around his habitat.
Tatl as well
you just picked two of the worst parts of zelda and called them good
I've seen way more people say they like Midna than Navi or Fi which are usually the most hated companions
🙄
ok thats a bit unfair to Navi but "hey listen!" is a meme for a reason
I will say that just like Ashley in RE4 I never found Navi to be annoying
ok? i was saying i preferred them over Midna
I've played OoT and I honestly cannot remember Navi doing anything besides the famous meme and being generic exposition fairy
But even Tatl is better than Navi and has a more interesting character and relationship with Link
midna had way more personality and charm
Midna is, like, actually a character
Now let'
You can still like Navi and Fi of course but I was originally just talking about Midna being '''''''''''''objectively'''''''''''' better just by virtue of being a better character
Midna is the best companion, but I actually like Navi and think she's adorable. I've never played Skyward Sword so I can't really talk about Fi, but I LOVE her design.
is Tatl from one I haven't played or did I just forget all the other character names?
let's don't make this yet another "Cap gets bullied for unique choice" situation
Tatl is the fairy from MM
Tatl's the companion from MM
the yellow one
ok
She is blue
Navi is blue, Tatl is yellow
WTF SHE IS YELLOW
oh Fi looks awesome and when she's not the most annoying thing ever, she has an interesting story
but she's also the most annoying thing ever
yeah i think the Fi hate is way overblown
because shes annoying
Probably because of the game design of SS
seriously
She's constantly interrupting the flow of gameplay to explain basic obvious shit
How is she annoying?
So people hate her as a consequence
Skyward Sword on the Switch mitigates this by making Fi optional
So she won't interrupt you anymore to explain basic obvious shit
unless you want her to
so... similar to Navi?
Worse
o
Still lovable characters compared to Gido
i think she was way better in the remake of the game but the original she forces you to listen to her tutorializing you
she constantly spit out lines like "i predict there is a 85% chance we will find a key for this door inside this dungeon"
its just
It's not a hey listen! it's a let me jump out of your sword and completely pause EVERYTHING to explain something you already knew and no you cannot skip this
she treats you like you're 5
lol ok
but yeah the switch version helps by making those things optional and it helps the flow of the game a lot
I still find myself annoyed by Zelda still doing this like the shrines on TOTK or BOTW that stop the gameplay to show me the door opening after I pressed a button or a switch or something and everytime that happens I just go ''yeah, I know ''
Oooooh, okay, I figured it was just her talking while you're still playing, which would be a little annoying but nothing truly enraging.
But yeah, pausing the flow and momentum of the game just to keep talking about tutorials that you already know is a no-no. I can see why that would get annoying very fast.
She's kinda like that
she tells you stuff she already told you about in the last dungeon and does it for every dungeon
another controversial opinion i have is that i think Midna's true form is better than gremlin
both of midna's forms are great
huh, that doesn't seem controversial?
a lot of people prefer gremlin from what ive seen
I'm not sure I have a preference since they're going for totally different things
I think her true form is fine, but I love her imp form more.
i don't really like Midna in general, she gives me bad vibes
Short stack girls are adorable, as Pipp clearly proves.
heck i don't even really like companions, most of the Zelda's ive played through all the way and enjoyed didn't even have one
I consider Epona as a companion
Imp Midna is so much brattier and smug and tall Midna is much more elegant and calm but still has that sass, it's nice I really like it
ok, that's 16 hearts
i wonder how many hearts there are in TotK
the heart pieces tend to have some fun platforming or a micro-dungeon so I'll likely collect as many of those as I can
i didn't count how many Link had at the beginning
the bugs and ghost souls don't seem worth looking up, especially since I haven't found anything in the game that points me toward the missing ones (although I don't know what the rewards are for getting all of those)
eh, not exactly
anyway I was going to ask is there any other good side stuff I should do in TP before wrapping it up?
I've already repaired the bridge and opened the two shops
yes you saw the magic armor in my screenshots lol
Did you do the trial dungeon?
I don't know what that is
oh and I got all 7 of the special moves from the gold wolf spirit (???)
Basically a Zelda take on the Pit of 100 Trials from Paper Mario.
Cave of Ordeals
It has 50 floors
like that one place in Wind Waker
Yep
Poe soul collection, bug collection, things like that. Just whether you want to go around completing the game entirely or not.
do you get a bug
and that's the star game finished
Oh, golden bugs nets you the giant wallet
ok, that's about what I expected
unfortunately a larger wallet is pretty useless this late in the game when I've already bought everything of value
They're for that insect girl
yeah, I got the larger wallet ages ago
Pit of Ordeals is required to get three poe souls. It also unlocks fairies spawning specific Great Fairy Fountains every 10 floors. 50th floor is the last bottle.
should I know where this pit is?
It's not pointed out, but it's in a hole in the Gerudo Mesa in the desert.
desert
huh
Just teleport to the desert it basically tosses you there.
under where the eldin bridge was
could've sworn I looked all over the desert
wait you mean the giant suspiciously rectangular rock I never figured out where they wanted me to warp to?
Oh, yeah that goes to one of the bridges
...oh, spoilers i guess
I've been waiting for something to give me a warp point where that rock would make any sense
I tried guessing one when I first found it but Midna just told me I'm an idiot
Yeah she does that.
She does it a lot
...has that always been there?
has what, the bug? yeah
that's a heart piece
I love Link's stance with the double clawshots
Arbiter's Grounds is in BotW
I think the game expected me to get this warp point about 20 hours earlier than I did
and i assume TotK idk i havent gone there yet
I guess Midna was right after all /s
I had to run all the way across north hyrule field like 3 times just to visit the hidden village because I "had no warp point nearby" and no reason to walk to the north side of the broken bridge until the fortuneteller told me a heart piece was near there
I think I had a similar problem on my first playthrough
...not that I'll get any use out of this bridge any more
how appropriate the fortuneteller just sent me to the hidden village
collect poes to fulfil your dream of being a ghostbuster
there sure is a lot of stuff to do in ToTK
:flutternod:
where is the 20th cat...
the 20th cat was the memories and friends we made along the way
|| should be on a balcony ||
managed to find him before clicking that

shiren no doukutsu / "Cavern of Trials" apparently
if I leave and come back, will it let me skip ahead to the last fountain I got to?
I was expecting a level counter somewhere during this
apparently I'm awful at not taking hits from skulls and chuchus
5.5/16 hearts, still no idea what level I'm on but I've killed a lot of snowpeak enemies
whyyyyyyyy
heh
well now it's 2 hearts
if I do this again I'm spending bomb arrows on that room
made it to another pool with 1 heart, I think that's 4 springs she said are restored?
I do have a fairy in a bottle so it's not quite hopeless
fairy was spent, I think this might be it (level... 47, maybe???)
ok not quite, the dark nut(?) was very polite and let me take out the lizalfos first
you've been in this pit quite a long time
it's a very deep pit okay
yeah that looks like a darknut
I didn't design it with no exits
can you not just shoot them with arrows
according to my experiments earlier in the game, they're impervious to everything until you bait them into attacking
NOOOOOO
almost first try
ix have you seen wind waker darknuts
if my second bottle had a fairy or potion in it I would've won
they're dogs
I'm sure I did when I played it but I no longer remember them
top is armoured bottom is unarmoured
they're dog men
big buff dog men
aren't they great
in retrospect I should not have started that at 2 am
I finished Control!

Jackbox Games launcher with French translation patches
Yes
ok, now that I'm fully awake, Cave of Ordeals take 2
took one hit getting to floor 10
not sure there are any safe ways of dealing with a room with multiple archers
aaaaah why am I so bad at chuchus
and skulls again
so that's three hits
ok just swarms of tiny enemies in general I'm not good with
chuchu
I just realized the hookshot kills chuchus
this is so much safer
floor 20 with 17.25/19 hearts (and both of the blue potions I brought)
Are there 50 floors I forgot
yeah i think it's 50
dunno if it's one word but yes 49 was a triple dark nut fight
and I was winning!
floor 30 with 14.5 hearts
really should be 15-6, I choked on a few of the group fights with only easy enemies
oh, that floor had buried hearts I apparently missed last time, back at 15.5
nice
now the ordeal truly begins
on that floor I think I did about equally bad as far as losing health this time, but I tried a different approach that I think panned out much better, e.g. I proved there is a safe zone between the ice dragons (?) on both sides where I can focus on the smaller enemies
did meh on the double darknut, floor 40 with 12.25
I feel like I could potentially beat this with no (external) heals, but that seems like a great way to get myself killed at the last second again
here we go, final two fights
I'm at 5.25 hearts this time but I'm going to spend one of my blue potions now, no point saving it
...and I beat that one with zero damage lol
ok triple darknut rematch time

so, technically, I would've survived even if I hadn't used that potion
(probably not for psychological reasons but still)
man, that was such a textbook example of why these games can't be played without a walkthrough
the final heart piece is in an area I've never visited, because it's currently inaccessible, and was most of the times I passed by it, and when I tried going there to start the sidequest to open it nothing happened... because I didn't walk two steps to the left after talking to someone, I walked right instead
whyyyyyyyyy
what heart piece was that?
the one in the "fishing hole" supposedly, I haven't finished getting there yet
(there's plenty of other examples, like one locked to a time of day with no hint you need to wait, and the one I found but was mis(?)placed slightly out of hookshot range so you need a janky workaround, but this was the silliest one)
what?
...what's confusing?
which side quest in the fishing hole
which heart that was misplaced and needed a glitchy workaround
whcih one was locked to a time of day without telling you
uh
i dont recall any of those being that obscure
well the glitchy one is inside a boulder atop a hill at the southwest entrance to Kakariko village; breaking the boulder isn't hard but the heart is just out of range if you try to hookshot it normally, and the only solutions I saw online were to grab it through a bit of the hill with no collision, or summon your horse to get a sliver of extra height (can confirm the horse method works)
uh
boomerang?
the time of day thing was the Talo kid standing lookout at the very top of Kakariko village, because the fortuneteller shows you that building but he's only there at midday
ah
huh, does the boomerang have a longer range than the hookshot?
I've never tested that
ok thats fair but also he's pretty noticable
right, I can see why people might not stumble there but it simply didn't occur to me what to do when I showed up and nothing was there
and the fishing hole I haven't gotten to yet, I'm still doing the thing to unlock it
you need to unlock the fishing hole?
you can just walk there, right? its in the same zone as the bomb arrow boat minigame thing
the bomb arrow boat thing is what I just finished
oh I have to rent the boat again
ugh, her dialogue didn't give any indication of a new minigame there
ok, additional searching clarifies the fishing hole is separate from the boat minigame after all, I was misled by a very poorly phrased answer elsewhere

there we go, ALL heart pieces acquired
heart
ah, the fishing hole is where they hid the third empty bottle
ok I think I am actually done with Twilight Princess now
looks like all that's left is to collect the other golden bugs and poe souls which doesn't sound that interesting
unrelated: apparently the コピーロッド Copy Rod's English name is Dominion Rod? probably a good call to try and make it sound cooler
Poe Souls are definitely a Guide Dang it thing
yeah poe souls just give you rupies and bugs i dont even remember
bugs give you rupees and bigger wallets
but the wallet upgrades appear to be only at first and last bug, so unless you're following a walkthrough the whole time you realistically only get the one wallet upgrade
(or if you do the HD-exclusive wolf-only Cave of Shadows after the Cave of Ordeals
)
apparently HD also adds an item to help locate poe souls, so I might've collected more if I had known to get that version (whoops) but still probably not all 60

hm... yeah, I wanna start Jedi Survivor now, the new Witch from Mercury episode can wait

pffff this is the most corporate game launcher experience; it's so childishly desperate to take my attention away from Steam that it somehow forgot to make its own link actually work
wow, deciding if I want ray tracing is one of the default setup steps?
...sure, why not, let's see if it melts my laptop
omg you're gonna see Gido
huh, I've never seen the FoV option presented this way before; I like it
well so far I'm getting a buttery smooth 45 frames
which is probably considered bad performance but I'm quite happy with it
coruscant is just poorly optimized somehow
oh so it gets better after Coruscant?
sure, every game has variable framerates
I hit an actual bug: the resolution option only works if I use the mouse instead of the controller
System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition was created with the goal of reverse engineering the original code to port SS2 to the KEX Engine and made available on next-generation consoles for the first time.
Nightdive Studios has also partnered with the systemshock.org community to integrate all the best mods and updates.
All cinematics, textures, chara...
Well I'm in love
oh yeah Jedi Survivor was definitely the right call today
have you met Gido yet
all the Fallen Order muscle memory is coming back, and fighting even the enemies which were hard in the first game feels so natural I forget to even think about tactics before I've kicked their butts

It's been a hectic past few months for the project. In addition to the upcoming release on Steam, a lot of focus has gone into other major features. While not everything has landed yet, two very important changes to Android did arrive, one of which has been in the works for a couple years!
We're talking about a large scale rewrite to Dolphin's A...
Most interesting news is Sharp Bilinear post-processing
I wasn't paying attention and for a second I thought you were also playing Control

it reminds me of the island Luke lived on in TLJ
🇮🇪
The magnificent Skellig Michael is one of only two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Republic of Ireland. On the summit of this awe-inspiring rock
Ha
I was wondering where they shot that
Wow they used the whole damn thing
That's insane
At first I thought it was just a set because it's just so striking
But upon rewatching it realized it had to be a real place
Probably just the stuff they damaged and indoor shots, yeah
Also I think there was that.... kinda pit or hole she went into? I think that's not there
But the island itself and the huts, all real
Living on that island would mean every day is leg day.
Nothing but steep inclines everywhere

I believe there's tours, though I think there was restrictions after the movie came out due to the massive surge in popularity
i didn't even think of that
Several films and documentaries have used the island as a filming location. The island was used as a filming location in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). Aerial footage of the island was also used in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).[66][67] It also served as a location for the final scene in Heart of Glass (1976),[12] and in Byzantium (2012).
(Game of Thrones, Hellboy II)
lol "Porgmagee"
LAWL
i love how they use different real world locations for shooting
makes it feel more real to me
Now I know how they named the Porgs.
Not sure this is a permanent change
Portmagee is the name, and I think they do a swap for the release and on May 4th
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrwaIZnV1ZA
I like the use of the rogue one font
Beautiful Portmagee, home of Skellig Michael

(and one little hidden surprise)
But yeah if a coastal drive and seeing castles sounds like something you'd enjoy, the "Wild Atlantic Way" driving on the west coast of Ireland is apparently a grand old time
Oh shit
With panoramic vistas, dramatic headlands and picture perfect towns, check out the top experiences along the Wild Atlantic Way!
Discover more at https://www.ireland.com
Nine counties, six unique regions and one incredible stretch of coastline, check out the star attractions along the entire length of the fiercely beautiful Wild Atlantic Way.
...
I think that bluff at 1:47 is in Foundation?
Would be interesting to see what locations Foundation uses that aren't in the volume
"Foundation was in the midst of filming in Ireland when production was shut down in March 2020 amid COVID-19 lockdowns. (Principal production resumed several months later, in October of that year.) The show utilized several locales across the country, including Dublin’s Trinity College, and both Troy Studios and the National Technology Park in Limerick."
Nice
Probably Iceland though. At least i didn't watch enough of foundation to recognize if it was the Irish one
I'm also loving this Training menu background
Been to Iceland once, like over thirty years ago. Went to the Blue Lagoon 🏊♂️
I've never read Foundation so this show is my first real exposure to it
I need to try Foundation one of these days
I'm told I should probably read Prelude to Foundation first since it's a prologue
Having read it multiple times, keep watching before reading. It's markedly different and ruined my enjoyment of the show
Aw
Like, anything that isn't the foundation itself or 100% related to the foundation's activities, like all the stuff about Empire, that doesn't exist
Ah yeah, I could buy that. They need to flesh out the universe so there's more general context if that's not in the books.
It is, it's about how Seldon goes to Trantor to try to put the finishing touches on Psychohistory
Ohhhh, cool
I love the series as a whole, it's great fun. But yeah, the series takes rather great liberties
One example, mild spoiler, ||Seldon never leaves Trantor, is too old||
Shouldn't that be in tech channel?
Oh and on the Foundation planet, that ||thing that gives people headaches or whatever if they get close, doesn't exist either||
Because this convo is very gaming related
Shhh
battle droid jokes just write themselves don't they
wh
why are there battle droids
i thought they were mostly decommissioned once the Empire took over
it looks like local raiders are using them
yeah, this was definitely not their CW-era paint job
omg how did i forget that they were using battle droids on that one planet in Mando S3
short beard
camo bugs?
insectoid enemies that change color to mimic their surroundings and wait for you to get close
JS's look like this when they un-camo to bite you
like Lizalfos
yeaaaaaah precisely
god, that area is so good
I need to reinstall Control and hopefully pick up where I left off like back in 2019
I seriously haven't touched the game in ages
I never did play it myself, watched someone else's LP
playing it yourself is always such a different experience
at some points it can get legitimately terrifying
ive thought about watching an lp because ive heard it was partially inspired by House of Leaves which intrigues me
the fucking fridge duty
finally got a decent shot of one in camo, before I get within range
trying very hard to look like a rock
...oh, there were three of them in here
Those things can fuck off
I remember one of you mentioning this when the game was new and I can't quite believe it
ok that's harder to tell in the screenshot than I expected, but the small fuzzy critters waited for me to arrive then demonstrated wall jumping
Yeah most were deactivated after episode three some holdouts were left and the others became used by pirates and other rebel groups
hows performance?
complete non-issue for me
but I'm also the type that couldn't care less about 30 vs 60
since I like to have Steam's fps counter on, you can see in my screenshots that Coruscant was ~45 fps and Koboh's been ~50 fps
i've heard running it at Quality, for like 4k 30fps is a good medium
Rather than aim for 60fps with wild fps swings
the only frame drop I noticed was when entering the yacht on Coruscant for some reason it started hovering around 30, which is weird since that's a tiny interior area, but you spend like ten seconds there
Koboh's where I've encountered most framerate drops
for now I'm assuming that I made the right call playing it a little after release so I get the early perf patches
actually what graphics settings did it default to, I didn't even look at those
I should mention that I opted into "ray tracing", and have not tested without it
apparently it gave me everything on high? did not expect that
so I suspect my (newer) laptop could run it at 60 if I turned some stuff down
if I wanted that
anyway, that's enough for one session, time for some anime
Gran Turismo 1/2 also has a system where you can only choose between 3 FOV presets, but I prefer having full control and actually seeing the FOV value being used. Don't do magic behind my back 😦
in TPS games, it makes sense to reduce camera distance when increasing FOV still. I use a wide FOV in Heretic 2 and it ends up pretty far away from the character as a result
yeah, that should still be there as a fallback for people who are into it enough to actually know what "90 FoV" feels like
I use a slightly weird setup, in most games I use the same FOV I'd be getting on a 21:9 monitor
(121° horizontal, or 89° vertical)
this is because I'm on a 42" TV and sit quite close to it, default FOV is often uncomfortable as a result. This way, I get both the advantages of ultrawide and a traditional 16:9 display
Doom Eternal has that question when you first start the game too
might've played that one on console
not on Nintendo Switch it doesn't
and yes, the menu is known to be buggy with keyboard/mouse/controller interaction, I think Fallen Order has these issues too
hm, I don't recall running into it in FO, but I also don't recall if I needed to manually change the resolution in FO
and I was playing FO on my no-longer-new laptop
This is what i have it as, and on the right, what geforce experience tells me i should have it as
But I pause and alt tab too much to keep it fullscreen, dangit
on Windows 10 and later, borderless window should be just as good as exclusive fullscreen in terms of FPS/input lag in Direct3D 12 games, since it uses flip model presentation. This also works with Vulkan games if they present via Direct3D using DXGI (most AAA games do this), or on all Vulkan games if using a NVIDIA graphics card
I do notice a difference between Fullscreen and Windowed on Survivor, but a lot of things in that port work in a not ideal way so I don't know what's happening there
I think I flip-flopped between the two today. I didn't notice a perf difference when I switched, but that may have muddled my anecdata.

I played Alpha Centauri again for the first time in a while yesterday (which is mostly why I didn't post all day, lol
)
(And yes, I did read Paens to SMAC recently, why do you ask?)
Did a Gaians game...started off on the westernmost continent (the one with the Freshwater Sea) on the Huge Map of Planet, my favorite, but right next to the Believers, not my favorite. That meant that I was trapped in a very lengthy early-game war with her that didn't wrap up until the mid-2200s and really slowed down my economic progress and development. That meant that I was behind technologically and economically compared to the other powers for much of the game, really until 2400 or so, when I started overtaking them.
Ultimately despite fighting a couple of wars with the Peacekeepers (who controlled the center continent after conquering the Hive) and the Spartans (easternmost, after wiping out Morgan) I was able to do the Ascent to Transcendence victory more or less at the last minute (less than 20 years until game end) and got like a 380% score rating because I was playing on Iron Man (but I played through in one session soooo...)
The wars were kind of tedious because I didn't have my preferred technological combination of drop hovertanks yet, so I couldn't just orbital insert a big army into the enemy homeland and wipe them out swiftly. The AI also had a lot of airpower, Lal in particular had many cruise missiles that kept blowing up my defenses. I really probably should have put more effort into building up my military, I wasn't expecting the others to be quite so aggressive as they actually were (especially Lal and Zakharov).
Eventually this game might be as feature-complete as Halo 3 was at launch.
🔥 🔥 🔥 🏥 🚑
Hey, the free multiplayer pvp was fun
have they done anything with the single player since launch?

Halo post halo 2 has been exclusively a multiplayer PVP thing for me
everyone seems to live exclusively in one world or the other
they might as well make them actually separate games
Halo 2 i was really invested in the Arbiter but then Mass Effect happened and did "cool alien friends" better
at least Halo 1-3 finished its story
I am not 100% sure but I think that was an overwatch situation there too~
what if Master Chief and the Arbiter kissed
as in they announced plans for stuff but finished none of it?

https://www.gamesradar.com/halo-infinite-campaign-dlc-reportedly-scrapped-following-studio-reshuffle/ I am unsure it's 100% confirmed but i've seen multiple places say it
Mm
Oof. Not surprising though.
the whole Halo situation is just sad at this point
And I find it amusing how this happened what, 3-4 months ago, but the scale of shitting on them isn't a fraction as large as with Overwatch. People just love to bandwagon hate Blizz at this point
weird that the TV show's second season is the thing I'm actually looking forward to
momentum is definitely part of it; this feels like Microsoft's first major mismanagement of a game franchise, while with ActiBlizz I dunno most of them myself but people talk as if you'd struggle to name a major franchise they didn't mess up
Aren't we also comparing DLC to an entire PvE mode?
Sor: Halo was launched with PVP only so this DLC would BE the entire pve mode
it got coop, but no splitscreen coop
Sorta, although that campaign DLC was supposed to be campaign 2.
Which was supposed to be a whole game.
Ixrec: I was gonna say diablo is pretty drama free but then I remembered Immortal
people have found ways to play splitscreen coop but it's hacky, and I think it was patched out
More like an expansion than DLC
splitscreen coop is a pretty big part of Halo as a whole, so people were disappointed
(it would be one of the reasons to play Halo for me)
yeah, Diablo I just haven't heard about lately except for the occasional person replaying old stuff
no one brave enough to answer my question of what if Master Chief and the Arbiter kissed i see /j
I also kind of feel people expect less from Halo compared to Blizzard.
Diablo IV is coming out soon and the beta was actually pretty great

Feels like it has been a solid decade since Halo was top of its game.
It was well received as well
Diablo 2 Resurrected was also well-received
Yep
it might even be a lesson on "How 2 Remaster Like Me"
diablo IV: this time it's demons.... but they're hot
like Command & Conquer 🙂
