A friend sent me Dead Cells with the Castlevania DLC
I am completely unfamiliar with the game, but assuming I should play the base before doing Castlevania

I finished Metro 2033, on to Last Light…
my FOV adjustment did not mesh well with some of the late stage puzzles.
holy hell
which one?
I had to work hard to stop myself from making a your mom joke
you appear to have not entirely stopped
Kraid!
Hooly hell RE4R is INCREDIBLE
cool, I'll probably wait for the full game then since I've got too much else in progress
The layout of the village and the rooms is the exact same
It's literally just OG RE4 with massive improvements and additions
Everything I wanted out of RE2 and RE3
is Leon still hot
He was hotter in OG RE4
That’s Kraid. He is indeed a bit tricky.
Kraid is a fat
jesus
yeah well get out of the way because i am
ok he's still hot
also goddamn i can see every hair on his head
i hope we can keep the jacket longer
the jacket is so goddamn cool and you have it for like a half hour
Oh hey it's my boy
I have no strong opinions on any of this lol
coincidentally 4 and 8 are the only ones ive played/watched
RE4's just the only one I played as a teenager so it feels weird in a neutral way and otherwise it's just a game I'll definitely play eventually like Dead Space remake was
RE4 was my entire childhood as a kid so this is very personal to me
And so far it looks excellent, like I said it's literally all I wished they'd done with RE2-3, just enhancements and improvements from the original all around
but it's still RE4
I feel like internally all the devs were very much like ''DON'T. FUCK THIS UP.''
did you do the knife vs chainsaw thing yet
I haven't seen it myself no, I'm not playing this game myself
oh
My computer would catch on fire and create a nuclear blast
lmao same
Maybe once I upgrade maybe I'll be able to play it on minimum?
I'll download the demo on my series x
I can't wait to see what else they expand upon in the full game but so far yeah it's excellent up there with RE1R and Dead Space Remake in terms of fidelity to the original while still overhauling and enhancing stuff
I've also seen people say they can't wait for Capcom to remake RE3 again so I guess I'm not the only one that was extremely disappointed with RE3
Isn't the re3 remake shorter than the original?
It's the shortest game so far and it's also the worst one
cuts out a lot of content and the replacements are arguably worse than the original
RE3RE was a big disappoint yeah
I think they just wanted it done so they could do 4
(RIP CV I guess, Claire who?)
They said they would do CV if there was enough interest after RE4 I think
they aren't closed to the idea but they are focusing on RE4 now
what is CV
o
It's pretty much like RE4 being a sequel to RE2 but with Claire instead
oh cool
It's when she goes to search for Chris
And it's largely a pretty underrated and forgotten entry
the remakes are cool but i feel like we're going to eventually get Resident Evil 8 Remake
It seems like they're planning to entirely remake all of their games
RE5R is definitely going to happen
All of the previous games are getting entirely overwritten
Which I disagree with but hey
In the new movie for example Jill looks like she did in RE3R and not like she always looked
RE9 will be remade before the original game is even out
I still want to play CV whenever Tale has time for it
then I'll have either played or watched the entire series
RE4R might be one to play by myself, depending how much else we get through
I don't think any of the new writing or plot lines are a vast improvement over the originals
it's an improvement but that's because writing for PS1 games really wasn't that good no matter what at the time especially for games who didn't focus on story as much
oh they always were and still are B-movie silliness, but the moment-to-moment dialogue/direction/etc is way better in the remakes
I guess 2 is still the only one where I've played original and remake back-to-back for a clear comparison, but I definitely found suspension of disbelief far easier and cared more about the characters in the remake
Marvin's probably the strongest example but they expanded his role so much that example's probably cheating
The only game that fails to be an improvement for me is RE3 where even the story changes don't make much sense to me
they swap sections with Carlos for no reason and Nemesis just seems inept in comparison to the original
He has so many chances to just crush Jill's skull and he just chooses not to and lets her run away, in the original he's a much bigger threat and the original actually makes Jill a bigger badass because you can choose to stand your ground and yeet Nemesis off buildings and bridges sometimes
Nemesis was interesting now that I've finally played it
RE2 has some improvements but I find it disappointing that they didn't put much effort into the zapping system and added it as an after thought later on
considering they couldn't do a true map-wide pursuit like remake Mr X, they got amazingly close to the illusion of it
one of my favorite moments was during a backtrack to downtown I was walking down an alley, heard a faint "stars" in the distance and immediately turned around and walked back without a word

That kind of magic is just entirely gone in RE3R, RE3R is more like its own unique game than a remake of RE3 like RE2 was
shes a member of S.T.A.R.S.
I remember my first run in with Nemesis in RE3 og after you step out of the bar and you walk down the alley and suddenly you just hear that the door opens

How I miss MvC2 Jill.
@mossy flume
Yeeesssssssss
Tale probably remembers that bit where I had to run past him in the alley behind the bar and went "HE SPAWNS BIRDS NOW!?" (which I later realized was a misunderstanding because the birds fear me but not Nemesis)
any of the GBA ones decompiled?
it's too bad the actual boss fight was such a mess
is Nemesis the one who looks like Bane kind of
uh... maybe?
ok
so
when I said Nemesis instead of thinking of Nemesis instead i thought of the Dread Knight from Doom Eternal
https://preview.redd.it/0q5gnf1hz9t41.jpg?auto=webp&s=8a456dfbe166cff008375bedeff55ffdad295dfb
wife, at Gwendolyn (Dark Souls), reads a message: "Chest ahead... huh, I can't find any treasure."
Me: "it's a boob joke, dear"
lol I probably would've needed that one explained too
''amazing chest ahead therefore try double-handing''
I've seen that one a million times
that I might have gotten

hold on let me google who Gwendolyn is
ah close enough. This was verbal.
because Gwyndolin's model has boobs
does it?
...yes
I wouldn't say it does if it didn't
in the top of uhhhh Anor Londo I think it's called, yes
this may be a case of "if you haven't watched/played it, it just won't make sense"
snek
is he a Cthulhu monster
You are thinking of Gwynevere
No
the above was about the other Gwyn
We are not thinking of Gwynevere no
im so confused
sigh

oh, yes, that would be the one with the "chest ahead" message
the joke has now been overexplained, underexplained and mis-explained all at once
Well this is Gwyn
http://i.imgur.com/VC6pAEm.jpg
and yes this is confusing because it's like a million messages at once
does he have boobs
eveyone who got the joke already knows these people and everyone else has no context they're just random names
Not prominently
i see
IDK, "chest ahead" ... "it's a boob joke" should be sufficient to understand which of the Gwyn* characters
lol ok that's funny too
The concept art of Gwyndolin also has boobs
why does he have boobs
We don't really know
He's feminine
But Gwyndolin's lore states that because he was born with an affinity for moon magic Gwyn raised him like a daughter
But it's never really explained why he has boobs and for a long time people didn't even know anyways
there's too little canon lore to get into anything like lgbt labels
There's very little official lore stuff to say anything certain about that, and even if we did it's not exactly the best considering Gwyndolin didn't have a choice in the matter
i thought Dark Souls was all about lore
he's also extremely devoted to his father so there's that
also trans people also don't have a choice to be trans???? or am i misreading what you said
Dark Souls has a lot of lore overall, but not on this specific question
you're misreading many things
There's not actually a whole lot of concrete information on stuff
I did... not say that?

For me Dark Souls is all about slashing up dragon toenails
this is what happens when we dig way too far into lore that you have no context for because you haven't watched/played the game
im trying my best
I keep warning against and it and y'all keep doing it anyway
We can't have this discussion very well because you don't know anything about the game or the lore
So it's just going to be extremely confusing anyways
sorry i guess ??????
We're not blaming you
We're just explaining that it's difficult to discuss the lore and characters of a game if you have no context at all
Speaking of dark souls I got the the abyss watcher boss fight in ds3
The abyss watchers is fun
the dark souls lore that I've seen so far isn't particularly good IMO
It's the first fight of that type
it's like... imagine someone talking about She-Ra makes some variant of the "catra needs therapy" joke, and someone else asks why she needs therapy; there is no good response to that besides "watch the show", anything else would lead to weird misunderstandings no matter how well-phrased
but everyone hypes up Dark Souls lore like it's the best thing ever
ok now that I can "answer" without context
Well, it's not that people hype up Dark Souls lore
they hype up how Dark Souls tells its story and does worldbuilding
worldbuilding and story are just other words for lore
Kinda but it's not the same
Yes but no
Dark Souls was famous for many things but one of them is that it told its story by mostly not telling it at all, leaving you to piece it together from what little the NPCs say and a bunch of subtext provided by the environments and enemies you see throughout the game, and leaving much of the details intentionally open to interpretation
The point is that the way the story is told rather than the story itself.
like FNAF????
Hollow Knight and Blasphemous also do this, and IMO HK does it the best
The actual content in Souls games is extremely little but you can piece things together with the little information you get and a lot of things are just left unexplained entirely
not exactly, FNAF's storytelling is more like an ARG where there are clear answers but you need a thousand people glitch-hunting and decompiling to get all the clues
and usually people just agree on what makes the most sense and run with that
but as a result there's lots of different theories for a lot of different stuff
yeah like FNAF
from what I can see, Dark Souls is really great with cool environments and enemies, but the lore seems like a bad D&D campaign
Eh that depends, I like DS1's world and story a lot personally, Elden Ring is great too
But Souls fans tend to overhype these games a lot
you saying this just makes me remember when FNAF 3 came out and everyone was finding all the easter eggs and stuff it was magical
A lot of people act as if these games have incredible stories and that every game should tell their story like Souls games do
FNAF 3 was so hyped
It's more like Berserk than DnD
as much as Fromsoft games are infuriatingly unplayable for me, I am glad that style of storytelling got popular, not just because Hollow Knight did it even better, but because it's a style that is uniquely well-suited to a video game where you have significant agency in how much and which lore you end up seeing
never played dark souls tbh lol
I didn't know any other games much less Hollow Knight did the same type of storytelling
one of Hollow Knight's inspirations was Dark Souls iirc
oh, yeah, it's kind of a thing:
Update discord
update discord
the "Soulslike naratives" I've played so far would be Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, Ender Lilies, and arguably Tunic
50/50 odds Flitter can name another
And FNAF
(not FNAF
*can unironically name another
you dropped this i think ----> )
I wonder if I'd enjoy Blasphemous...
it's no coincidence that 3 of the 4 I just named are also Metroidvanias
so the odds you'd like them are pretty decent
You didn't play Salt and Sanctuary
is Sekiro good
Yeah
you have a grappling hook in that one
I was excluding actual Fromsoft games
Sekiro probably tells its story in a more standard way than the other Souls games
i think the only game whose story i adored is BOTW, Undertale, and Deltarune
Fallen Order
that's not a Soulslike narrative
Binding of Isaac
what are you listing now lol
Okay, I seriously cannot get enough of Kingmaker. There is so much to do, and I'm still on the first chapter of the game! 17 hours of content already and there's sooooooo much more to go! :D
Soulslike narrative games
oh hey
i thought we were listing video games
MW 2019 got quiet released on steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/2000950/Call_of_Duty_Modern_Warfare/
No just ones Ixrec may have played that had Soulslike Narrative
what does Modern Warfare have that the other 20 trillion Call of Duty's don't
if that wasn't sarcasm then no Fez is not that either
last good cod games were mw2 (the original), blops 2, and mw3 ngl
was Salt and Sanctuary any good?
Last good Call of Duty Game was CoD4
I know I need to try Death's Gambit
It was great.
are any of the Call of Duty's good
That somehow reminds me, have you tried Death's Door?
Salt and Sanctuary 2 is being released soon. If I had to choose between the two Death's Gambit is more fun
this is a genuine question
4
Subjective question
the original Call of Duty was one of the best FPS games of its time, though I dunno how well it aged
are any CoD's objectively good?
People often praise the original MW2
Are they called The Call of Duties, or the Calls of Duty?
iiuc Modern Warfare is the one that defined the rest of the franchise, codifed what everyone means today when they say CoD
codified
but I only ever played the original CoD and its expansion pack, none of the others seemed that interesting
That's why I like 4 best
(remember expansion packs?)
could Doomguy beat Call of Duty Man #34 in a fight
yes I got that joke, that's what the
was for
Doomguy can't even beat his eggs to bake a cake
All of the mw games are good imo
not true
Having looked into the new MW2 game on Steam I notice the new banner looks... silly.
Season 2: Modern US soldier man in US soldier armor wielding... a sword
Yes
SWORD
I'm a dirty cod fan
It's a katana, even
Ban me
Just why
coincidentally, I'm watching "Modern Warfare Critical Let's Play" right now
just quoting the video title
Playing it like a critic
afaik there's no standard term for "I've played this before and want to talk about all the stuff I think is interesting about it while replaying it" or whatever
Review
retrospective
Be kind, replay
I miss expansion packs. Back when getting more content for your game actually meant something.
They're still a thing if you play Indie games
Or Fromsoft games

10000% this.
lol
yeah we wont see a crash but the live service model is a dying breed
i dont think hi-fi is a live service game
Why the fuck is Hi Fi in the thumbnail
games as a live service are good when theyre done properly lol
So you can go "What the fuck the video is wrong. I'm gonna watch it so I can get angry"
which only a few couple games have managed to actually achieve
fall guys almost does it right but the content for fall guys is super dry right now
the problem is everyone wants to be like the successful few but not everyone can
as video talks about similar thing happened to WOW clones
good thing i can just sit here, be mad at it, and NOT click the link and assume the video creator is an idiot
I assume it's used as an example of a game that isn't a live service and is thriving
Watch it and find out
It's a good thing I don't watch videos I know I won't like
Correct
I wish enough people did that.
Hi-Fi Rush is used as a counterexample
If nobody fell for clickbait it would stop being profitable.
Live service can work if you make players basically pay monthly or rely on scummy micro-transaction evilness.
To be fair, that thumbnail is hardly clickbait
I’d take monthly any day.
ehhhhh
It's not clickbait but it's still stupid to include Hi Fi in there
It's just the subject of the video and some art of the games that get mentioned in it
It’s a key part of the discussion
It’s a 7 minute video
I’m sure you’ll agree with it
You know I’m violently against clickbait, so…
microtransactions arent inherently evil/bad
especially if the game itself is free
like sure its super scummy if its a full priced game
but for a free game they have to keep it running somehow and pay the employees/etc
Which then lets them push out constant new gameplay content
It really depends, but most of it has an addiction or FOMO aspect to it.
If the video doesn't talk about Hi Fi as a live service game then it's stupid to include it like that in the thumbnail because it gives off that feeling that Hi Fi is a live service game just like Suicide Squad when it's not
Microtransactions aren't inherently bad, but I can't think of a single example where a lump sum would have been worse than a microtransaction model from the viewpoint of the players.
I don’t mind DLC, hell I think its a good idea. But making DLC as dense as helium in content is as good as taking instant antidepressants for the first day.
Judging a book by its cover so hard here
Sorry, I’m pretty biased I’ll admit.

I just have not had a DLC that’s made me say “wow, this is so damn good”
Mass Effect 3 Citadel
The Dark Souls 3 DLC was great
But yeah, I get that. So few examples which I would actually say it was damn good
I thinik it's fine to include the games you talk about in a video in the thumbnail
It'd be clickbait if it didn't talk about Hi Fi rush.
Including a game in the thumbnail of a video talking about live service games gives off the feeling that you're saying that game is a live service game
I never said it was clickbait
I said the thumbnail is stupid for including Hi Fi rush in there
I disagree
Blood and Wine was also great https://store.steampowered.com/app/378648/

if only i liked Witcher 3 😔
never played any of the witcher games tbh
💀 you and me
I say it, but the Spiderman PS4 DLC were kinda bad IMO, but at least they were substasntial
i only know who geralt is and thats it
and thats because him being in fort lol
dont know a single thing about anything else in the game or any of the lore of it
I couldn’t get into the game loop, it felt clunky and got softlocked on a cave dungeon.
And because I tend to manage my save files very little, I had to restart from zero.
I still need to play the witcher
On release the game was a bit rough around the edges, definitely got better with patches, adding significant QOL features and smoothing some of the rougher parts
I have the complete edition too but I no longer have a PC so
Me many years ago: https://i.imgur.com/QD4kaDA.png
Turns out that DLC later got its own game
Another great expansion was Repentance
PRAY FOR REPENTANCE AND BE REBORN Experience the modern classic, The Binding of Isaac, like you've never seen it before. It's a game too big to be called a sequel: Repentance takes Isaac to new heights of roguelike dungeon adventure, as the brave boy descends into the basement for his greatest challenge yet! Isaac's new quest takes him to unknow...

It added about as much content as the game already had
yes
AND fixed almost every problem with the game
I respect BOI but I don't have the reflexes and motor skills to actually be good at it
It's actually mostly strategy
Yeah but like, I get hit by bullets
That's fine.
It takes like six hundred hours for you to get consistent at the game
the game is about getting carried by your items
Yeah...I don't feel like it's enjoyable for me to get good at BOI is the problem
That's fine
If I invested a lot of time I could get decent at it for sure
I wouldn't want to spend six hundred hours on a game I don't even enjoy that much
Also was cool that McMillen hired the people who worked on the mega-mod it was based on (anti-birth) to help make the fucking monster-sized dlc
I respect it because it spawned the resurgence of a massive genre and of course, does a lot of things right
If I want to spend a long time in a roguelike, I feel like my poison is Hades
understandable
Also, Isaac has mods, which can basically make entire other games inside the og game
Hades is more of a roguelite
But why not just play other games in a good engine instead?
because there's a certain skill that's needed to make a game within a game.
and it's AMAZING when it works.
But just because it's impressive doesn't mean it's fun
yeah but Isaac has the mod that replaces the Beast with that guys dad so i think it wins best game ever
Well I'm not saying that's primarily what mods were made for in that game
doesn't need to be, it's a show of programming skill most of all, but im sure there's good ones out there.
It's just that the fact the capability is there gives it bonus points for me
like that zombie survival game built onto skyrim by someone, somewhere.
THE CAR MOD IS SO GOOD
Also, the Isaac modding community is fucking massive
Only dwarfed by like, Bethesda properties like skyrim (and other games I'm likely forgetting existing)
Minecraft has a pretty massive modding community
That's true
OMG the Nintendo eShop is Mario themed for Mario day
Happy birthday, CaptainMario
it isn't my birthday
Oh I just assumed we had the same birthday since it's Mario day
is it your birthday tomorrow?
Thanks!
Happy birthday
For my birthday I'm going to sleep all day
Very late to the party, but that's an easy answer. "Here's an example of a much lower budget, non live service game that is doing fantastically well, to the point of some people saying it's their personal top contender for game of the year even this early. TL;DR Hi Fi Rush is an example of the type of game development we need more of"
I've already gathered that the video probably doesn't speak of Hi Fi as an example of a live service game I was just commenting how the thumbnail including Hi Fi rush next to (I assume) other live service games makes it seem like the video is putting Hi Fi in the same bag as live service games
It's more akin to "these are all the topics we'll cover" rather than that, yes
Maybe it should just indicate that it's different rather than putting all three together
I think it's more a consequence of thumbnails being used as bait more often than not that that was your first thought. Not exactly a wrong reaction to have in general these days but definitely here
Even simply separating all three images would already make it a lot more clear that the video will be discussing these games as separate examples
But then where would the text go :X
It could go in a lot of different places
Or the thumbnail could have a completely different composition entirely
The only spot where the text couldn't go is where the timestamp would go in the thumbnail which is the lower right
At this point we're just arguing about specifics here. My guess is that they have a usual format for their thumbnails and wanted to stick to it and ended up with the chars like that
this is silly
I think that the thumbnail was pretty alright, this is a very weird argument all in all.
I should have invested in more HP
I did the whole fight without taking a hit
Second try worked fine

Guess this is what happens when you focus on live service games and give the shaft to single player ones
Yep.
I'm not paying two hundred riyals for their middling quality games when I could get same quality ones for just ten
Publishers need to stop trying to convince us that multiplayer live-service games are the only games that we want.
Because it's not.
the escapist video posted 16 hours ago
High quality single player games are the experiences that we actually want.
I’m not sure that live service games are responsible for the commercial failure of a game that has no live service elements and had 150 people working on it for four or five years.
The only reason I don't buy Square Enix games is that they don't offer them cheaply enough
Huh. Pretty steep discount on epic...
my brother in christ, this game came out for PS3
what the fuck happened
Why the fuck 32gb
What they done
Its the PS5 version.
my brother in christ, the PS5 have 16gb of ram
it's most likely not minimum spec, pretty sure you'll be able to run it with 16 GB
Also this ^
Steam Deck and laptops hard-capped to 16 GB are a thing, you can't kill your sales by not supporting those
I have 64 GB but I don't get the panicking over those announced specs, this is done to err on the safe side and push people to upgrading in the future more than right now
(because yes, 16 GB will eventually be not enough… but not before a few years)
I do think we need to stop at a certain point though.
32GB of ram is technically not cheap in any way.
16 GB has been a viable amount of memory for an extremely long time, you could build a PC with 16 GB of RAM in 2008-2009 and it's still a viable amount in 2023
16gb is the default now days
I think 16GB will stop being the default in 2032
ask people if using an amount of RAM suitable for 1990 was suitable in 2004 😛
8gb for sure is not the default anymore
with DDR4, I find it quite cheap nowadays
even phones have this amount of ram now
The biggest problem is that its not cheap for mobile laptops or anything that isn't a tower.
yeah, too many laptops don't even offer 32 GB options (outside of MacBooks)
There are still laptops being sold with 4GBs of ram, and 8GBs is considered PREMIUM.
I'm baffled at how many of those fancy OLED laptops (easily €1,500+) only have 16 GB options available
I have 32gb, and I work with animation, so far didn’t feel the need for 64gb
meanwhile, Apple will sell you laptops with 128 GB of RAM as long as you're ready to pay up
if I upgrade I will say fuck it and go up to 128gb
(it's super expensive, but at least it exists…)
1.5tb of ram, anyone?

I did get ddr5 tho
But yeah, DDR4 is getting cheaper, but we are already jumping to DDR5 (and I think six as well?)
24/48 GB sticks were recently announced, so you can now have 96 GB of RAM in a consumer PC without a performance penalty, or 192 GB with the usual 2DPC speed limitations
yep
I can't tell whether or not to be amazed or disgusted
I built my PC just before that happened, so I "only" have 64 GB
I doubt I've ever used more than 30 GB right now anyway…
I had a laptop that you could upgrade the ram, got it up to 2GBs.
It even had that stinky Windows Vista capable sticker.
Good times.
So far I can put my pc to render shit and still use it normally
so I am fine with 32gb
Yeah I know
there's a hidden difficulty unique to the RE4 demo
it won't be in the final game
Oh
Wait why?
DLC?
Or a free update
The difficulty is literally insane
Gonon
It's just unique for this demo
Nightmare difficulty exists on Doom for a reason.
It is brutal.
Theres also a reason theres an achievement for beating only one level with it
But this isn't Doom
And not the whole game lol
Dark Souls 2 is fun and only a little bullshit
I did a mage run
The only way people managed to complete the difficulty is by literally ignoring all enemies and surviving and only using grenades on big enemy groups
a full playthrough of the game in this difficulty would be beyond insanity
Most of the difficulty can be obviated by picking off grouped up enemies with a ranged attack so mages are perfect
Thats probably why lol
I disagree DS2 is big bullshit
The only fun I've managed to had on DS2 is by doing coop with a friend
Early game was pretty difficult
Once you got your main damage spells it got a lot easier
co-op DS2 is fun, solo DS2 is just frustrating and stressful and not fun at all
I like it
I gave DS2 a lot of tries, never liked it and I never had fun with it unfortunately
This is something you tend to do in Doom as well. Like you're not even supposed to kill all the monsters, you need to have a game plan. I guess the reason why I even compare RE4 to Doom is just because of the shooting mechanics.
Im probably gonna get the first game remastered next sale
But this isn't Doom
Yeah.
Excellent
And im sure if capcom doesn’t add it there will be a mod to add the difficulty
That is a fun game
Yeah
I own it on Steam
these dudes are on fire because of the Goddamned Bats in this cave system that shit fireballs...
what is this game

Bat guano is known to be highly flammable
@gaunt marten Just completed Chapter 1 of Kingmaker. I just defeated the Stag Lord, and now I'm about to start the kingdom management part of it all.
Let's hope I don't f*ck this up.
Overall, still highly enjoying the game
Despite some stumbles here and there in the beginning
There's kingdom management? That sounds cool
Yeah, once you defeat the Stag Lord, the bandit leader who has taken over the Stolen Lands, the second main gameplay element opens up: kingdom management. Politics, diplomacy, advisors, economy, keeping the treasury full, adhering to traditions and agreements, alliances, military, public support, etc.
They do give you the option to set the kingdom management feature to "auto", which does all the governing for you and ensures your barony will never fall to pieces, but you'll miss out on some achievements and may miss out on some events too (but story related quests will continue as normal).
"The Stolen Lands" is laying it on a little thick
Well, it was stolen by the bandits.
Yeah but they could have called it its original name
I was interested in that until I realized it would make me incredibly nauseous
They have an option for people who get nauseous
Idk what it does but I saw something in there about out of body
I never clicked it or really read through it
I stumbled before even getting to the stag lord, I think
...You know what, I think I'm gonna set the kingdom management to auto. There is sooooooooooooooooo much stuff to keep track of, it's insane. Literally five minutes into it you're thrust into about 10 problems at once.
Only problem is, once you set it to auto, you can't set it back.
The only thing I’ve found that works for me is teleport locomotion

I love kingdom management so I'm looking forward to that part of the game
It's really detailed and I think if you like that kind of stuff it'll be right up your alley. It's just a lot more than I thought it would be, and a lot of the super serious problems have a very tight time limit, so if you don't deal with them soon enough, they'll obliterate your kingdom before you know it.
And frankly, I don't want to have to deal with all the diplomacy, I just want to get to fighting and questing.
I feel called out.
I don't like time limits such as these
You can set the difficulty of running the kingdom to easy or even "effortless" to make it more manageable, but you still have to juggle the responsibilities of being a ruler and being an actual adventurer.
But if you do it auto, all or most of the main events (such as new merchants, new buildings, etc.) will be handled automatically.
I think I mentioned briefly seeing a video where it mentioned the game is good if you do a lot of things exactly right and/or take on a lot of stuff to enjoy the rest of the game. I guess they were talking about this part
ah. "It's exacting in what it expects of you"
Answering a question I often get about whether or not to play Pathfinder Kingmaker especially before playing wrath of the righteous!

Wow. Going through some old, old music of mine, and stumbled across some previously unreleased Mass Effect music (sorta).
I obviously didn't work on Andromeda, but before that was decided, I wrote a motif that might've been cool if BioWare was open to a new main theme. (1/2)
@Mass Effect Fans
never touched a mass effect game in my life
what kind of games even are they
aside from a third person cover shooter
sci-fi RPGs with lots of narrative choices and yes third person shooting
okay so its more of an RPG series, emphasis on role playing
Mass Effect 1-3 are some of my favorite games of all time, personally.
Also emphasis on a cinematic presentation and experience.
They're almost just interactive movies.
If you're considering playing them I would highly suggest the Legendary Edition, which includes the whole trilogy with all the DLC and patches.

One person is all that stands between humanity and the greatest threat it’s ever faced. Relive the legend of Commander Shepard in the highly acclaimed Mass Effect trilogy with the Mass Effect™ Legendary Edition. Includes single-player base content and over 40 DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 games, including promo weapons, ...
$59.99

I would also suggest playing them with a gamepad if you can. They're kinda specifically built for controllers.
(Legendary Edition also remastered the games)
maybe at a later time, but thats a big maybe. i like video games with great stories, but i'd rather they not be like, interactive movies.
There's still tons of gameplay, mind
It's not like they're quick time event based games.
it's definitely proportionally more running around shooting things than anything else
Yep
Lots of shootings things
Loooots of shooting, haha
It's a phenomenal story. Doing a quick run of it when you know what you're doing will take you about 120 hours to finish the trilogy.
damn
I got ME: Legendary for free from Prime Gaming a while back but didn't have time to touch it yet
(I did play an hour or two of ME2 when I had it on PS3 way back… my brother finished it there)
Amusingly, my home is playing Mass Effect music atm.
Just from a random shuffle.
I recently replayed the whole trilogy yet again. Still excellent fun.
Except that bit where opening the abilities menu in the final boss fight of Mass Effect 2(?) reliably crashes the game.

Mass Effect 1
But yeah, there is that bug.
Doubt they fixed it
Ideally, play as soldier and you'll be less likely to cause the crash
More than one controller will be utterly destroyed when Budokai Tenkaichi drops
also for more than a week I haven't been able to find a single Titanfall 2 match

I waited for actual 30 min one day and nothing
That more recent series "dark pictures anthology", those are interactive movies. Mass Effect is more a bunch of gameplay with numerous interactions with NPCs/story characters where you can choose certain answers or lines which actually affect the game and how your companions react to you

I wonder if it will be able to compete with Attack on Titan G-Fuel
g-fuel is kinda shit though
I thought it was fine. Not brilliant, not terrible, decent enough.
I’ve only played a little, 6-7 hours though.
I was playing it, then started missing ME1 so I started playing that, then wanted to play Stellaris so…
(Story of my life, that hopping around)
playing higurashi after having completed umineko (same creators)
I’ve watched most of the first season of the higurashi anime but when it comes to the when they cry series the visual novels and anime are two entirely different experiences
And I’ve modded my higurashi version to be fully voiced like the console version

like actually full insane
NFTs are totally where the cash is and the market did not crash.
I am actually not the least worried about this move
I was worried about the games as a service direction
Because that can actually be insanely profitable
This is just a very obvious flop
That kind of goes hand and hand with NFT.
I can't wait to play Kingdom Hearts 3.5/3 Birth by Blockchain
Whats the story behind this Forspoken game? All I know is that in Dunkeys video he showed one second of it and then said "alright thats enough of that game"
There's not really much of a story it's just a very mid/bad game and people didn't like it at all
That's literally all there is to it
that's all I know about it, I've never looked into it more
It's a decent game but priced at 70$ and has the common problems plaguing the recent PC ports.
I mean individual NFT project can make money when the market is in the right situation in which suckers are getting brought in the ponzi scheme with the assumptions they will make money, but so far every videogame company that tried to do anything more than making a few collectables was burned hard by it
It probably got so much attention because a lot of big content creators covered it, as they always do
but other than that it was just a bad game and it flopped because of course it did
The consensus seems to be that it's a mid game, with relatively meh writing
yeah, it was very transparent and clueless trend chasing; anyone familiar with NFTs could tell that even from a cynical business perspective, the pyramid scheme was unlikely to stay around long enough for anything like a multi-year video game project to capitalize on it
At this point I feel like Square wants to go out of business
IIRC Forspoken also got a AAA marketing budget, which is why so many content creators "needed" to cover it
at least it's why people like me who couldn't care less about the premise were aware of it long before it released
Ah yeah they hyped up the visuals a lot and how it's a super next gen AAA game
Yoshida is pretty much holding that company afloat.
You take FF14 out of SE it's probably going bankrupt.
It's also one of those situation in which, it's a bad game, but it's trending so people feel the need to blow it up and cover every minor thing related to it
People do that anyways as it is
sure, but they can only do it for a handful of mid games
To be fair they did market and priced it as a major AAA game.
Every bellular video for 6 months had to talk about Fallout 76 after it came out
I have no problem being super critical of games sold at 70$
most of the unremarkable or bad stuff that gets released every week flies under everyone's radar because there's just too much of it
It's how youtubers make their money
(and probably also some of the good)
It really didn't help that Hi-Fi Rush shadow-released like, immediately after Forspoken and it was the bomb, now everytime Forspoken is mentioned you pretty much have to mention how Hi-Fi Rush is a million times a better game and for more than half the price at 30 dollars
and Forspoken is 60 or 70
Yeah I'm just saying that looking at the coverage, you'd assume it's the worst game released in the last 10 years
While it's just mediocre
It's ridiculous how Square Enix prices games compared to the market and the quality of the games
SE makes a lot of good AA games but they don't really market them.
And they end up bombing because of it.
I mean I don't get the feeling people say it's the worst thing in the world people are just saying it's bad and they don't like it
this type of response has happened with other games before
Yeah, gaming coverage is very momentum based
It's just the hot new topic is all
the internet is very bad about making one of those things look like the other
if something is going bad, people want to read negative stories about it, it's a positive feedback loop
Once a new bad game releases (Probably Suicide Squad) people will be reacting the same way and talking about it
Forspoken is also the game that introduced DirectStorage (which is supposed to bring PC loading times on par with current-gen consoles), but it ended up being "meh"
it does help improve loading times but not that much, and it also lowers general game performance a little when enabled
hopefully we'll see better implementations in the future, I'm confident it can be done
huh, I'd never heard of that
Directstorage is not as much of a bottleneck on PC
you know the real irony of all this is that, right now, instead of playing a video game, I'm watching an anime about people playing a fictional video game
I have never felt much hindered with loading times in games on PC, as long as I install demanding games on my SSD
same, and I'm far more concerned about time to get back to whatever killed me
I mean, every new tech I'm not against it, but it was definitely a bigger problem on console for a while
Yeah this really doesn't seem like an issue for pc, optimization for the game matters more I feel
Elden Ring ran like garbage even on high end pcs at release I remember
people were telling me SSDs are must-haves for gaming for years but in my case they just became a standard thing before I felt the need to upgrade
Directstorage is specifically for loading rather than general framerate improvements
ER isn't definitely the worst offender but it is one of them
Not any kind of loading either
What does an SSD even do? I kinda get the gist of it but I don't know for sure, my brother recommended me get one so I got one when I bought my new cpu and memory
In Directstorage, you store stuff on the GPU directly instead of putting it on RAM first
It's where your files live!
It's really fast. Faster than an HDD, so your files will load a lot faster
It's just a much faster drive, also it fails much less because it doesn't have any mechanical parts
oh neat
It's basically the same technology that you would use for a USB storage stick, but applied for a whole drive
Extrmely simplifiying it
Switching from an HDD to an SSD is by far the biggest improvement you can make to a computer in regards to value for money
turns out moving mechanical parts are Just Bad(tm) when tech gets good enough
Waiting for solid state organs
I mean are SSD's big enough to be a permanent replacement though?
Yes
I got a pretty cheap one that's like 200 something GB so I don't know if there are bigger ones
I will never buy a traditional HDD again except for my NAS.
I look forward to the future when the kids speak of "those old mainframes with vaccuum tubes and CD-ROM drives" as if those were all the same era

They cost more per GB, so if finance is a problem getting a smaller SSD for games and your OS and a larger HDD can be an option
I can't believe I lived to see the fall of floppy disks and then regular discs/CDs
"of course Apollo 11 had a Blu-Ray player, even the chip in my finger can read some fossilized blu-ray"
When I started noticing that computers didn't have the disc slot anymore I almost lost my mind
That said the SSD cost came down so much in the past few years
the weirdest part for me was when I bought a laptop with no disc drive and didn't notice for months
If you're really short on money, I recommend an SSD for your operating system and videogames, and an HDD for almost everything else
it's just that useless now (for me)
Yeah that's what I was planning to do, however I just looked up on the same store I bought it from and there's a 950 GB SSD for like 80 bucks which seems good to me
It's like the one piece of tech that just plummeted in price so damn fast
But for now I'm keeping the one I bought for gaming and other stuff like my painting software
250 gigs should be enough I think
One thing for sure, I would never go back to having my OS on a HDD unless I was absolutely foreced to now
it's a game changer
I'd rather give up my 2nd monitor than my SSD
I guess I'll see once I put the SSD on my computer and feel if there's any significant change
to be fair this is more about OS startup times being kinda bad
part of the reality of tech is all the software adapts to "current" hardware, often in ways that penalize older hardware; you just can't support everything equally
When I switched to an SSD my computer went from taking two minutes to start up to taking twenty seconds
my two laptops are also minutes vs seconds on startup time
That's 83% less time
I haven't timed it but it's night and day even without measuring
Just check through eventviewer
well I guess next time I go shopping for a new graphics card once I get the money I'll also look to invest on a bigger SSD then
Here are instructions on how to use eventviewer for boot and shutdown times
#manechat message
It gives detailed breakdowns including kernel time and the time it takes for your startup apps to boot and time until you see the desktop
For my most recent boot, February 25th, it took 17.8 seconds for me to get to desktop
Aa tad late to the convo but, uh, yeah. Square's plans are... dubious. https://game-news24.com/2023/03/10/square-enix-plans-on-opening-the-blockchain-games-in-2023-2024-and-beyond/
square what is you doing
there's chasing a trend, and then there's having once briefly glimpsed a trend many years ago but somehow missing the many deaths of said trend and still pretending it's out there to be chased
my only guess is its still relevant somehow in japan or china
Somehow I doubt it
Old farts and stockholders convinced of this being the future. In some other industries maybe, for gaming... very doubtful
It stopped being the future the minute people said it was going to be the future.
NFTs and the blockchain are dead, Jim.
The only people still insisting that it's gonna be YUGE are Elon fanboys.
Ubisoft already did all this and dropped it because it didn't work.
You know it's bad when even Ubisoft and EA tried this and failed but you keep insisting that it will work if you try hard enough
They seem to be under the impression that if they just push hard enough we might crack and start accepting this or liking it
I think EA didn't go huge into it. I think they wanted to ride the wave but saw the writing on the wall. Ubisoft was the massive loser though, I think. And... one other? https://techthelead.com/ubisoft-says-their-failed-nft-project-is-because-gamers-dont-get-it/
Every brand out there is trying to jump into the NFTs hype and Ubisoft, while being one of the first, didn’t get the results it hoped for. Why? One Ubisoft representative says “gamers don’t get it”. It’s an incendiary statement that, while making sense in the context, still manages to insult the company’s customer base. […]
ANyway they were trying to get this market going and I think it made 700 dollars total or something of the sort, reselling some cosmetic thing. Trying to advertise that it's usable in other games even if you bought it from one, but that wasn't really teh case (or at least it wasn't implemented yet) and was just sales within that same game's market
I think gamers don’t get what a digital secondary market can bring to them. For now, because of the current situation and context of NFTs, gamers really believe it’s first destroying the planet, and second just a tool for speculation. But what we [at Ubisoft] are seeing first is the end game. The end game is about giving players the opportunity to resell their items once they’re finished with them or they’re finished playing the game itself.
So, it’s really, for them. It’s really beneficial. But they don’t get it for now.
god, fuck off
TL;DR: [insert 'and now, we throw our heads back and laugh' meme here]
These people really acting like TF2 and CSGO haven't been doing this shit for DECADES
the rare hat and item market in TF2 is insane
Are you actually kidding me?
They desperately want people to get into the Play to Earn system so they can get a cut
You really think I need some shitty nft to sell my in game items once 'I'm done with them'?
i want the Mario hat for Engineer in TF2
This isn't 'for them', jesus christ they think we're morons or something?
this is why no one engages with press release wording any more
even when one does take a close look at it, it's so transparently vapid or manufactured that there's nothing of substance to engage with
MKTV got a good showcase wrap up reel, even the music is synchronized to the beat.
Simply awesome.

I know, I was kidding.
I love how the soundtrack reminds me of classic Shining Force.
I never played that one
It's a very old Sega Genesis tactical turned-based RPG, a liiiiittle bit like classic Fire Emblem in that you have a set amount of troops that you must deploy in battle against a large amount of enemies on an enclosed battlefield. In-between battles are exploration moments where you can explore cities and the world map, buy stuff, talk to people, etc.
The story is fairly linear, and the first two aren't very complex in either their gameplay or their plot (but they've got lovely sprite work and the gameplay is addicting). The first two are also more light-hearted than the third.
The third one, however, is Shining Force's masterpiece. It had three games to it, but only the first was released in America (there are fan translations for the other two online). Shining Force 3 is where the story gets very complex and the gameplay starts getting a lot more in-depth and detailed, and it was widely regarded as one of Sega's finest games of its time. Unfortunately it was released on the doomed Sega Saturn, so it never got the recognition it so rightly deserved.
Yeah, I did hear about Shining Force but I never got to play it. I'm definitely interested in the genre as well as the specific game.
watching LPs of games that came out in my lifetime but I never played myself is super weird
I remember my sibling playing at least one or two of the Modern Warfare campaigns (and then a lot of the multiplayer)

this is really cool
he's playing normal Minecraft but with a datapack that replicates Herobrine sightings and haunts your game
how does a "datapack" do that
idk!!! i'll have to find out
i just started the video haha
maybe he misspoke and meant mod
i remember this pair of mod reviewers named Gamechap and Bertie, they had a lot of running gags involving herobrine from when they did herobrine mods a few times.
Gamechap has since become one of the most openly bigoted people i have ever been aware of on the internet but Bertie just kinda vanished, didn't follow that trend.
o h
otherwise herobrine mods would be cool to have :))))
ok following the link in the description it looks like there's both a datapack and a mod options so idk
Is unfortunate. I remember watching them a lot way back when.
It's not a Minecraft or YouTube problem
Don't get attached to anyone whom you don't know
? i know? i was just saying the true statement that a lot of older Minecraft YouTubers turned out to be nasty behind the scenes, most of whom ive never even watched
It's true but too specific
I think the claim is that celebrities/entertainers/influencers who turn out to be terrible people are in every subgenre of entertainment, and Minecraft Youtubers are no worse than the norm on this, but that some of the phrasing above misleadingly implies they are
I've yet to hear anything wrong with Etho or the Hermitcrafters I don't watch so hopefully I'm good
I just realized my pop culture exposure to Canadian stuff is basically Wolverine, Etho, and sometimes Deadpool

there's this lady on YouTube im subbed to who is Canadian

Justin Bieber is Canadian
It's okay, just live in Canada
Canadian content (abbreviated CanCon, cancon or can-con; French: contenu canadien) refers to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) requirements, derived from the Broadcasting Act of Canada, that radio and television broadcasters (including cable and satellite specialty channels) must produce and/or broadcast a ce...
They have a rule about broadcasting that 55% of TV and 40% of radio must be of Canadian origin regardless of quality or actual demand
im trying to think of other Canadian things
neat
No, but also... not a weird thing. They're tweens, what do they care about complicated world affairs? They're busy having fun.
yeah it was a weird complaint and he got clowned on publicly
It's kind of necessary to avoid Canadian culture being overwhelmed by its neighbor to the south
How many tweens were discussing the finer points of geopolitical events in 2003?
um, excuse me, all tweens care about is world affairs
Turning Red was so good

I think at that age I was just sick of people asking "where were you when you saw the news"

metroid prime remastered for switch
bonk

The only way to really do it is play all the Metroids at the same time using one controller for all the games
I'd love to see a TAS do that.
Include Prime and end up doing lots of looking upwards in the 2D games
Clearly I need to teach a neural net to play Metroid.
i still don’t have prime remastered
Call it Mother Brain
come on Nintendo… restock!
I'm actually kinda surprised that it's this hard to get a physical edition
It's not special or limited
It's just Metroid Prime
Those scalpers are nuts
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the Switch 2 drops all physical capability.
Considering the cost of manufacturing these cartridges.
But yeah I am getting ready for a Switch game hunting spree, plus the hall sensors.
I’m preparing myself for the possibility of a new Switch and more than ready to sell my PS4 to get it
Yeah
Just bring back the Nintendo ON rumours from before Wii
im expecting an announcement either late this year/early next year, and then release late next year
Aye that sounds reasonable
cuz i think they wanna get TotK out and then move on to planning for the successor
I never bothered that much about performance but I think it would be awesome if the games ran a bit better
There were a few points in Metroid Dread where the framerate lowered a bunch
mhm that's true
i would like something with a more consistent framerate
sadly it is noticeable in BOTW especially while in Korok Forest
i dont really care about any graphical upgrades though
BOTW and Odyssey are really nice looking games
what im saying is that i dont need gaming pc specs lol
Aye I’d really just like nicer framerates
im soooooooooooooo excited for TotK
i wonder
since BotW feels like mainly a combination of Zelda 1 and OoT to me, I wonder if TotK will feel like a combination of Zelda 2 and MM
I’ll be disappointed if there’s no I am error
haha
well
but TotK looks a lot darker tonally compared to BotW
like
the backwards voices and Ganondorf's mummified corpse are creepy af
i love the Divine Beasts and shrines, but i am sort of hoping for proper dungeons, like how Hyrule Castle was in BotW or the labyrinths
im rambling now sorry
i just like BotW a whole lot so im excited to see what's in store for the sequel
I like how the game shows you how close you were to winning after you lose https://i.imgur.com/gOSt9bD.png
like in Cuphead!
Yeah
What is that game?
Oh, I heard good things about it
If you watched LobosJr play it, it's been reworked since he played it
Now it's called Death's Gambit Afterlife, with a lot of changes
Next steam sale is in 4 days, I'll consider it if it goes on sale
It's great. One mechanic I have to warn you about though
The game counts your death, and how many deaths you take can affect which ending you get.
It's not a big deal because it's quite forgiving, but it can become difficult to get the best ending if you die ~150 times
Thanks for the heads up
lol I remember lobosjr because he beat Bloodborne without a weapon
Oh my GOD
