I remember looking up online the date routes and everyone was going on about yukari and mitsuru and here I was wanting to date the weird interdimensional fancy lady
I love this goofy goober
Yeah, I don't wanna say it because it sounds mean but this, SO FAR, feels totally like a baby's first devil may cry/bayonetta/mgr, and that's honestly a good thing
it's enjoyable as a newcomer and as an experienced player of these games
it's also fucking gorgeous and super unique for a AAA release
This is the type of games I want to see more of going forward
I also love that the humans in Hi Fi Rush are named weird shit like Peppermint or Rekka and the robots are the ones named shit like Will or Bob or Fred

I fucking love this
who knew we'd exist in a timeline where Bayonetta 3 pales in comparison to a new character action/rhythm game
oh my god they have a || evil within || reference
Same devs made both games.
I know and it's crazy
At least they clearly weren't forced to make this game, it shows that this game was made with passion
Oh fuck she's doing a Volgin
|| HAVE AT YOU, SNAKE ||
this game is so full of unapologetic references to MGS, Jojo, DMC, etc that it's fucking insane as a fan of ALL these
ALSO THIS CAT IS SO FUCKING CUTE MAN JESUS CHRIST
I love her so much
hifi rush
Oh a Bethesda title, never even heard this game before.
It was super shadow dropped
Seems like its doing good, cool.
He's Chai she's 808
It's a character action rhythm game
and it's fucking incredible
It's ridiculously good and it's only 30 bucks
Yes it's a character action rhythm game
Imagine Metal Gear Rising but with rhythm
Looks good, can't play it though. Art style looks great.
It was announced and simultaneously released just a few days ago and it’s a banger game with awesome personality
During the Xbox livestream
There was an Xbox livestream!?

there was a keynote?
redfall????
Announced a bunch of release dates
is that like a pathetic version of redwall?
What is Redfall?
The upcoming vampire hunting game
That’s one of the big upcoming games
it's a bunch of mice who live in an abbey but they're constantly tripping because they're not meant to walk on two legs
Redfall
Also a Bethesda game
maybe I'm getting too old
Starfield and no, they said that Starfield would get it’s own dedicated show soon
"Redfall is an open-w-" pone proceeds takes their headphones off
Which sounds like Starfield is set for Fall or Holiday release
Given the release schedule for this year
Xbox and Bethesda present the first Developer_Direct, an inside look at some of the biggest games coming to Xbox, PC, and Game Pass, hosted by the game creators themselves. See gameplay and more, from Redfall, Minecraft Legends, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Forza Motorsport.
0:00 Opening
1:06 Introduction
2:20 Minecraft Legends
8:29 Forza Moto...
Y’all be sleeping on this
this started as a joke, but now I kinda want an open world RPG redwall game
Also new showcase for Forza
Redfall gives me L4D vibes for some odd reason.
Among other things
The upcoming Minecraft strategy game, etc
oh 44 minutes
Minecraft Legends?
Yeah that
I don't have the energy for that
That one I'm aware.
It has a date now
I doubt Legends will be any good.
I dunno. It actually kinda looks fun
But yeah, there’s a tldr article somewhere
Thanks for sharing this.
The Forza Motorsport engine showcase was pretty awesome, though. They’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of the years they took to write a new engine from scratch.
I liked Forza 2 a lot, so I hope with this new entry they stop doing the Microtransactions.
But that would be wishful thinking.
Ah, apparently Starfield is still targeting H1 of 2023
yeah but like
But yeah, they haven’t done the showcase for it yet
Into the future.
The year is 2077, there is still no Half-Life 3 game out.
The year is 2077. We have a bug epidemic
What is this. 256 seconds for the AI to think of each move.
It better be the hardest AI ever, making the absolute most perfect moves
It depends a lot on the engine
Idk what engine it is. Maybe just a 1.2L 4 cylinder.
Are they from Hawaii?
Not in Japan
The loud music really comes from the tesla coil sparks. It's literally playing the music due to the programmed phase, pulse width and firing frequency! So, there are no speakers, no audio / video special effects. It looks even better in person and sounds almost the same, just louder than people expect!
I hope you all enjoy this version I worked...
finished Dead Space Remake, what a fucking good remake
too bad i lost the teddy bear and the baby doll somewhere
i've gotten to chapter 3 but yeah its gooood
VRs problem is that there are too few killer apps for it
There are some genuinely great games for VR, just not enough of them.
Tbh Sony kinda needs to have more killer apps for the PS5 in general rather than spreading itself even thinner supporting a very expensive peripheral
the problem with VR is that VR advocates think I want to jump around like mario. I'm not that fit
does it? I think there's plenty of VR games that can easily be played sitting down
yeah, no offense, but I don't want a "workout game" in VR. The vast majority of the time, I want a game I can play while sitting in my chair.
this is the same type of argument people said when motion controls started popping up and while to be fair stuff like nintendo wii went too hard on shit like wii sports a lot of the times it really wasn't that drastic or as much of a big deal as people said it'd be
I will say though VR really hasn't popped off the way I guess all of us would've expected it to
It was kinda big at first but nowadays it's just kinda there
The two space games can be played sitting down, NMS and Elite.
Half Life Alyx can be played sitting down easily
Like most of the movement is just your hands and arms and your head you don't have to actually move around
Unless you're doing some weird full body motion tracking thing with games like VR chat but even then that can be played with just a keyboard too
PS5 has been hard to find, I don't think it is too much of a surprise the VR addon isn't getting the preorders Sony expected.
If it worked on PCs maybe there would be some more concern there.
I feel like to this day most people still don't have PS5's
also Overload (from the makers of Descent)
A very biased (but correct) look at the arguments commonly made against motion control and a thoroughly depressing trawl through a YouTube comments section.

I'm obligated to post at least one Nerrel video per month /s
Yet I feel motion control, when used to enhance an experience/improve control over a standard controller and not used as a gimmick can be great. Best example off the top of my head is the motion control use in the Splatoon titles, it helps the control quite a bit imo, though it doesn’t top a mouse and keyboard of course
Nintendo did lead the way there, gyro controls have been showing up in Sony games too. Microsoft is the odd one out because their controller doesn't have the sensor.
the video I linked talks about and even mentions exactly that
Even then Nintendo lead the way by showing others what not to do, which is the super exaggerated gesture controls, but even then most Wii games can easily be played sitting down just moving your wrists and hands
Gyro aiming should be the way to go for first and third person shooters honestly, hell Nintendo did it ever since the 3DS with OOT3D
Gyro isn't super great for wide turns but it's so much better at precise aiming than an analog stick it's not even funny
I think motion control are annoying when you have to use them to do something that before you could more easly do with a normal controller
When people like them, it's when they offer a completely new dimension to the gameplay
But to do that, you need games developed with those controls in mind, which are not always convienient and by necessity, a minority of all games developed
Gyro controls doesn’t replace the existing system, you use the stick to get in the area and then use motion for the fine-tune aiming.
Most of the bad rep for motion comes from Nintendo pushing motion into every single thing during the Wii era
But motion controls have gotten so much better since then
A lot of the times it's not inherently a fault of motion controls but the developers not knowing how to properly use them, gyro aiming has been the simplest yet most effective implementation of motion and honestly a huge upgrade from the arcaic analog sticks
…was I the only one not expecting more?
after Alyx came out I was expecting a bit more from VR but not much I guess
With how much vr was pushed to be the future of gaming yeah I was expecting more but at the same time I'm not at all surprised it hasn't been popping off
If it was a fifth the price I might be interested
There's still time for it to be that
yea its still pretty expenisve
I’m sure they can be, but the further you get away from the “holodeck” of VR, it seems to me the less reason for the VR in the first place.
pretty much
the idea of running around on an omnidirectional treadmill appeals to me, but is obviously far outside my budget unless they start putting such things in local arcades
but sitting at home waving my arms around instead of pushing analog sticks? maybe there's an argument about aiming speed/precision, but ultimately I'm not buying dedicated hardware just for that
As much as I liked the wii, I think there's a reason motion control isn't nearly as much as a focus with later consoles. But it is very helpful with aiming in breath of the wild, for example
so in this respects I don't really see the value in VR
it also seems to be inherently tied to first person games which I'm not a big fan of. I'm paying for the whole body, not just the hands
I think Metroid Prime 3 is still the only game I ever properly played with motion controls
which was fun and all, the Primes are amazing, I'm just not sure it was a significant improvement over analog sticks
Motion controls in the wii were either core (like wii sports) or kind of perfunctatory (most other games)
(granted, the emulation I recently did where my analog stick pretended to be a wiimote, that was a clear downgrade)
i liked how Mario 3d All Stars did motion controls in handheld mode where the speen was mapped to the y button and the touch screen acted as the cursor
for Mario Galaxy I mean
Was pretty much an approximation of the original Wii controls
Big sale on Disgaea and similar games
I'm sorry devs

This is great
Sucks that DIsgaea 6 is still an arm and a leg in price
Alas, one day
apparently a bunch of live service games are shutting down, including Rumbleverse
which is a shame, that game had problems, but if it had like 6 more months it coulda been a super good game
Yes, I'm waiting for a sale, but I'm thinking of picking up two other games that are cheaper than Disgaea 6
Ah well, it's not like I'm struggling to find games to keep my interest.
Please don't crop the credits from the original gif when reposting this! :)
happy to see that people still enjoy the bouncy mario, tho

bouncy mario
Literally the day I go on vacation
I was just about to post that
And it seems that apex legends mobile is being completely sunset?
I think it's friend-shaped
Eat the Lim-Lim
Pet him. Pet. Him!

Sounds like a pokemon
Very impressive mod running on real N64 hardware
@mossy flume
That's not a good sign.
Yeah, new content was cancelled. Knew it was being reworked in Unreal Engine 5 to replace Slipspace, which is good. But yeah, 343i is very aggressively on fire.
343i will not be doing any of the actual development work anymore.
They're just a producer now, essentially.
So 343 is basically dead.
I decided to dust off my Age of Calamity and 100% percent it I'm currently at 86% Completion.
Zag go skrrt Zeus goes zap
So after beating Bunker II finally the other night, I'm actually through the Train on Secret Agent.
And I gotta say that 2.4 controls with the right remapping feel pretty slick.
Ah, gamers. Guy sends ticket asking why he can't buy items from collector's edition vendor. Tell him his account never had it, just had "deluxe" version which lets him access the special floor where the vendor is also located.
He comes back screeching about us paywalling him, removing content he had before (wrong), then proceeds to spam about 15 other tickets until a colleague strikes his account for spamming us. I answer him again telling him there's a high chance he had CE on another account.
Comes back with two more tickets, showing us a character which has "proof" he got the items from the vendor. Check the character and the items.
Not a single one comes from the vendor.

I don't like that sort of person
Yeah, we're all assuming they're gonna come back again anyway, but he's reached the stage of getting his tickets auto closed if they're on this subject
so I got a new laptop today (test)
it's cute how it thinks I might seriously consider Edge

That's downright creepy how it knows you're going to download a different browser and it tries to stop you
downloads firefox
Edge: Sorry, the download has failed.
the real test will be when Dead Space finishes installing since my current? old? laptop couldn't run that
I'm looking into upgrading my computer soon, my brother has a gtx he has to repair and said he'd give it to me and I need to get more dedotated wam
my current graphics card isn't even a gtx it's a gt (GT 1030)

I'm shocked at the games I was able to play on this
I still remember being shocked that my current laptop could play Fallen Order without any slowness or other gameplay-affecting issues, just some hilariously low-rez textures
When games are well optimized they can be played on literally anything
It's not gonna look pretty or play at 60 fps most of the times but you can play them if you wanted
yep, the last 2-3 times I replaced my laptop were after a few games flat out refused to run
I mostly noticed that my computer runs pretty slow sometimes and it's supposed to be better than the last one I had which... boy, that was slow, I'm talking you gotta wait at least 5-10 minutes after booting it up to start up your browsers and apps, wait like 10 seconds for a folder to open and wait for it to load then, and sometimes it would lag while I was writing a long message
so I figured hey I got money now, might as well upgrade now so all my stuff can run much better
especially since a "future proof" computer can last a looooong time
which was my goal with this one, it's definitely more than I need now but I want it to be usable for at least as long as my current one
Yeah it's an investment for later where you could upgrade as parts inevitably get better but you wouldn't need to unless stuff straight up didn't run or your machine started slowing down
definitely should upgrade my cpu at some point later down the line but I think it's fine for now
I'd forgive it if the error message was "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that"

Oh look, he's back
People keep telling me to touch grass so that's exactly what I did...by seeing how fast you can touch grass in every Mario game.

Hi there! I'm j0rts, and I like to explore mostly pointless things in video games while playing them in weird, unconventional ways...

I do like how the overall lore of the world makes it extremely easy for the sequel to just go "eh, he lied, problem solved"
even if they weren't planning ahead
good video
I mean Edge is fine. There’s no real advantage to using Chrome or Firefox any more unless I guess you use lots of specific extensions.
I know, but there's also no need to switch away from what I'm used to
I mean, it’s less work…don’t have to download anything. I dunno, I use Edge (inasmuch as I “use” anything, which I mostly don’t) on the Windows side of things.
(Safari on the Mac side…)
It's more work if you want to import your stuff over
Windows is for playing games and literally nothing else, so IDGAF what browser I use since I don’t, well, browse.
technically speaking, he's only asking if Hades and his mom had any other children. But this is greek mythology where everyone has half siblings
(oddly not Hades though)
getting used to another browser is way more work than installing the one I know
yay, I made it to "building shaders"
Alex would be proud. No #StutterStruggle here 😛
is that hades doing paperwork?
hades is always doing paperwork
Also wow Zagreus speaks way diferently than I thought he'd speak
I thought he was like a punk or something
man I gotta play Hades dude
except for that time he was hades
All of the mainline ones work basically the same nowadays.
you're still talking as if I don't already know this
I love that that's now two greek mythology based games that take smaller not popular and well known deities and make games all about them
I had never heard about Zagreo before
He's the protagonist because he's less known
no one had
even what little actual mythology mentions him is contradictory, which the game even has references to
🤷♂️ Talking about “getting used to” makes it seem like that. Anyway, I’m not trying to evangelize or anything, I just think there’s really not much reason for anyone to bother downloading a browser these days instead of using whatever comes with their device because they’re all basically the same in every way. It’s not like 2005 where IE6 was garbage and Firefox was amazing.
I mean, you've literally spent more time being confused by this than the ~20 seconds it took me to download and install the browser I'm used to
"basically the same" still covers up a million little differences that I have no reason to learn right now when there's no reason for me to change browsers
it was just funny that Microsoft tried to stop me downloading Chrome, that's all
now moving on to what this was really all about
apparently EA has judged my new laptop to be mid
same
I'm surprised I can even play TF2 and DMC5 even if it is at low res and low settings
and they still look good
now there's a setting I'm not used to seeing
I'm used to visual novels always having name colors so I like this
Well yes, conversations are like that.
@fresh bane Fun fact, Zagreus' voice actor voices another person in Hades. Guess who it is.
ah, I was curious what the "content warnings" setting looks like in practice, and there it is
Finished second campaign of Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition
This game may contain scenes of violence and gore.

right now
Probably there for people that play with someone else watching, that would rather avert their eyes during the more gory scenes
Eh it doesn't really need much explanation it's straight up just a trigger warning
I'm just poking fun and reminiscing about survival horror's intro screens
Although I wonder what someone who heavily dislikes gore and violence would be doing playing a game like Dead Space though
Yeah but like, if you are playing a game about using futuristic industrial tools to take apart the limbs of mutated humans, there is a decent chance that you are probably okay with some level of it.
indeed, that’s part of why I’m curious what got flagged
so far it's been two scripted events where a character dies screaming in front of you, which, fair enough
yeah my best guess is you playing and a significant other or a friend on the couch next to you watching you play, and they are a bit more squemish than you
That's probably the most common use that feature will get
I'd be concerned that it could potentially spoiler any deaths
It's a horror game, are deaths even a spoiler?

The assumption is that everyone dies, except maybe 1 or 2 people, the spoiler is more who lives by the end than someone dies
one of the reasons I thought this might be interesting to try is that I probably already know all the deaths
like that one I just posted, the moment I saw it I remembered the scene which I already knew was coming
granted if one of them says "major named character death" I'll be sure to mention it
I mean, yes
I think it's a super weird choice to put that little sign there even though the intro already tells you the game contains that kind of content, I guess it could be for anyone else watching but that seems like a very odd thing to implement for that super specific scenario
The spoiler is about when people die, not whether they do
if it wasn’t clear, that’s a setting I opted in to
laptop GPUs have a big performance gap due to the increased power consumption of desktop GPUs, while laptop GPUs can't afford using more power. So that makes sense
the 4000 series will only increase this gap, Pascal (GTX 1000) was really special in that regard. It's pretty bad from a consumer perspective because the performance gap is huge while the naming is almost identical
for Godot, I'll eventually need to put together a list of GPUs that are considered low-end, and this will make it harder than expected
heh
as long as we're making fun of these notices
I think the blanket warning at the start of the game mentioned gore, violence, death, and... vomit

Maybe not as bad. I don't really know
if I had just gotten off a ten hour flight this would be horrifying
Honestly this is about the same as a real airport cargo treatment.
it even went past survival horror sometimes
it's a capcom staple
the Silent Hill 1 one fucks
images that could be album covers
I really like em
As if the M rating wasnt already enough warning lol
im not making fun, i think these sorts of things are important especially for people sensitive to this type of stuff, i just think "this game contains scenes" with no more explanation is hilarious
oh, I mean "making fun" in a sense that doesn't exclude them being a completely legitimate and worthwhile thing to include
just like how this is still a good game I spent money on regardless of these jokes
oh i see
e.g. now I'm really curious if there's going to be a content warning popup later specifically for vomit
because I might genuinely appreciate that
what you don't want to see full 4k high resolution vomit physics?
im fine with lots of gore (im a fan of Doom so id have to be) but vomit def squicks me out
That is baffling to me
what is
Vomit < Gore
i cant explain it lol
it's not exactly a rational thing
neither can I
From a personal standpoint usually vomiting heralds feeling better, wheras bleeding or losing organs heralds feeling MUCH worse
that is true
I seriously dont' think people associate vomiting with feeling better
youve only vomited once????
while nosebleeds are pretty common
Vomiting heralds tooth damage
how
I mean, vomiting often results in feeling better depending on what triggered it.
sure it can lead to feeling better, maybe, but the act of vomiting in itself is still disgusting and sometimes even painful
Right, meaning feeling better after the fact.
feeling the acid inside your throat and mouth is definitely not nice
Yeah, it's not great.
there's no use in trying to explain or rationalize it anyways, it's an irrational fear/phobia
I'm super okay with tons of violence but I'm very squeamish about specific certain things
Watch the Timon and Pumbaa episode where he vomits out a great big burp and then feels better after being sick all day
and you'd think I wouldn't be since I'm okay with violence and gore overall but some things just really bother me
the thing that really bothers me is eyes
"South Sea Sick" is the second segment of the third episode of Season 1 of The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa, and the sixth episode of the series overall. It premiered on September 16, 1995 on CBS' Saturday morning line-up, alongside "Brazil Nuts" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". "When Pumbaa gets sick, it is up to Timon to take care of him." After T...
(god dammit Dead Space 2!
)
Oh yeah if you vomit your eyes out you should be very concerned
oh yea i dont like eye things either
for some reason stomping on a cacodemons eye in Eternal doesnt squick me out, but that might be because of how cartoonish it is
but it's harder to ignore in DS2
It's also a demon and not a real human being who is screaming and writhing in pain
that's what I'm referring to yes
thank god they only play that animation the first time

nooooooo
there are also the many eye things in Zelda
The scenes of implanting cybernetics in Cyberpunk Edgerunners kinda slightly triggered that squeamish side of me when it comes to 'gore' scenes
I can't play Inscryption because of the scenes where you have to manually extract your own body parts to gain an advantage in the game
oh thats very understandable
I guess I'm getting the real medium-end PC experience now
See that's ironic because the idea of replacing my gross meat with clean metal is usually the opposite of squick for me
that sort of operation scene can go either way for me
i read that as "replacing my gross meat with clean meat" at first
usually depends on how detailed they get with the meat part
Oh man if you wanna talk about gross gore look no further than S c o r n
s c o r n
Sure, but you're leaving out the part where they have to cut you open and take out the parts you're replacing

while you're awake
it was annoying me that the other ones posted were different takes. this is the one he uses for most of the playthrough.
I mean yeah, that part sucks but losing organs in a controlled manner also made me feel way better
(I will admit being awake for parts of that sucked real bad
if we wanna call a shady shitty garage on the slums of the city managed by some weirdo without a licence a 'controlled' space sure
ah well you know how it be
. . . That said
Woud I have done that given no other options. . .

it's like it's 2008 all over again

Trixie candy!
that... cant be a coincidence, surely
Why not? Often there’s a great sense of relief from nausea or other preceding symptoms; you do in fact feel better afterwards, compared to the torture of prolonged nausea.
That was supposed to quote @fresh bane, not sure why it didn’t…
Trixie candy makes anyone feel better
I wondered how Trixie led into nausea relief and thought it might be some convoluted diss
I don't really understand
what you're saying isn't untrue, but I also don't understand the confusion over people having a phobia or an extreme aversion to the act of vomiting or, as is often the case, seeing someone vomit
Thats why bulimia is a thing

I like how the gaming channel has turned into a prolonged discussion on the nature of nausea and vomiting.
There are many reasons for it
also it is so cool that this is consistently doing 90-100 frames in the normal hallway areas
I don't think it dipped under 60 once
I did say just that
let's see how streaming impacts this
i struggled to stream
Ixrec: ''let's see how streaming impacts this''
5 min later
Ixrec: I no longer have a new laptop.

got my first frame drop
i have a 2070, was honestly suprised at the frame drops when i tried streaming
even onlow settings i only get 30fps while playing
ah, we're upgrading from "graphic death" to "bloody death"
oh
yeah that is the right word for that
and next is "||self-inflicted death||"
in all seriousness, these are well chosen descriptors
the specificity is nice
apparently folks online have been bitching about that
I don't need them, but being mentally prepared is still nice since none of this is plot spoilers
It's optional, though.

not to mention it's opt-in (for anyone lurking who wasn't here when I opted in)
People will always bitch about accessibility features.
ts probably the same people that complain about the idea of darksouls getting an easymode
what I'm really curious about is how these will work when we get closer to actual spoilers
at least with the dark souls easy mode thing I can see a genuine fear of a unique gamedev philosophy being diluted by mass appeal
but content warnings? it's not like a few popup messages will stop them from coating the Ishimura with blood and guts lol
its so dumb
Same problem where you can't get achievements in Paradox games if you use any mods that alter the game's checksum
Even accessibility mods.
The restriction has been loosened with Victoria 3 but it's still there
That doesn’t seem all that unreasonable, given they cannot divine the function of arbitrary game modifications.
Yes.
But people who want to cheat to get achievements can use external tools to get them, undermining the whole point
And people like me who want to have mods while still using achievements to guide how they play the game can't
A solution for this problem is for Steam to add a field to the achievement database indicating mods
oh sick

I'd prefer an actual low-violence mode, but I recognize it's nearly impossible for Dead Space
can't have confetti flying in the ship when you gib enemies
yeah, I've seen games that let you turn off blood spatter and gib effects and other cosmetic aspects, but you can't exactly delete things like the kinesis impalement mechanic
Bayonetta had something like that
Halo has the Grunt Birthday Party skull which my family always plays with in the games that just let you turn it on
As usual, PC Gamer is a minute late and a dollar short
I still remember the censorship of the torture scenes in MGS on Japan
in MGS Peace Walker a woman captures you and starts torturing you with electric rods, for some reason MGS PW didn't have knives as melee weapons but rather stun/electric rods, in other versions it's just Snake grunting and convulsing but in the Japanese version it's Snake laughing and I guess it's more like it's tickling him or something?
I think the only one thus far was Bayo 3 with its naive angel mode where the nudity is turned off
I don't remember how violent Bayonetta is now that I think about it, I haven't played Bayo as much as DMC
I thought it was just an built-in thing, that's better then
cool that they also super specify exactly what is going to be shown
ah I didn't know that
weird choice, I wonder if they'd hide away alcohol too since Rodin's bar is a super common and recurring place and it's full of alcohol and cocktails

censoring games like bayonetta is such a weird choice considering how much content from those games is just straight up not safe for younger audiences so censoring it feels like a battle not worth fighting
I think it's more of an option
speaking of things no one ever wants to see
Your mom
"sorry we are full" on an ER entrance
oh

It’s covid!
man i wanna make some rule 2 statements on that
anyway, yeah this was honestly a fun section
i've just finished the medical section in my playthrough
did you already get to a no gravity section? I hear that || the no gravity sections have been massively improved and that you no longer are confined into super specific jumps and can freely roam about ||
||yeah they used dead space 2 mechanics||
actual spoiler
kinda
not really important but its more fun to find it out yourself
I also hear that || that one AWFUL minigame shooting section got super cut off for another section entirely ||
honestly an improvement imo
the only type of cut content I accept
hadnt heard that
but i've been avoiding spoilers
probably shouldnt have clicked
sorry
nah that was me being dumb
well that's about the extent of what I know from the remake anyway, still haven't actually seen much footage from it myself
I only really saw a full lp of dead space a little while ago from a streamer that played it for the first time and I'm excited to see the changes with my fresh perspective rather than others who have played it like, 10 years ago now

It's about censorship!
"The other thing I wanted to mention here is that the Bayonetta games have an extremely funny approach to censorship... such that it's extremely over the top. Like the cigars become bubblegum cigars, and lots of things become candy and ice cream cones and it's supposedly nonviolent but it's just a way you could play Bayonetta and still have your kid around..."
I have done the first tutorial zero g segment, but I'm not sure I understand this question
hah, that's fun
what do you not understand?
well, "confined" and "free" can mean a lot of things
I'm struggling to interpret your question in a way that doesn't lead to "the original already was like that" or "you're asking for Prey (2017)"
I don't know what Prey is
What I mean is that || in the original Dead Space the no gravity sections don't allow you to just float around freely, you can only do specific jumps to other parts of the room and you can only walk in those sections but in the remake I think you can just freely roam about completely without being limited to only doing those specific point jumps ||
and I was wondering if you had already seen that
ok I have now unconfused myself
the zero g segments of Dead Space remake use the Dead Space 2 mechanics (fly around in any direction), not the original Dead Space mechanics (leap between designated surfaces)
is the straight answer to your question
I didn't really have a question I was just asking you if you had already seen that for yourself
I did already do that yes
I was confused because I forgot the original DS didn't work this way, apparently DS2 overwrote that memory
Ye
It's a nice change
I welcome those changes
also apparently now || the map is completely backtrackable and interconnected more like a classic RE game I've heard ||
so literally just improvements
yeah we both watched that video
and I'm happy for Dead Space fans
and that is true so far
Even though I'm a grumpy man for classic survival horror, it really seems like the era of survival horror and I'm super stoked
new Resi games, Silent Hill is back, Dead Space is back, Signalis was fucking incredible
well mostly
Resi 7 and 8 do exist, and there are new SH games coming up...
but yes the era of remakes still hasn't died
we're still deep in that
me personally I don't care much about SH2R, I'm super interested in seeing what the hell Silent Hill: f will be

it works!
I hadn’t seen that part, just the part that seemed to imply that there was no way vomiting might feel like relief and people might associate it with feeling better.
they just zero g'd the main hanger so WHEEEEEEEE
I think I spent 10 minutes just flying around opening every box in random corners
ye
and pretty sure I found the ||part where much later in the game we have a puzzle to move the marker through the hanger into a shuttle||
ooooh THATS what that section was for
forgot that part
been a long time since i played the game
I haven't played it since it was new
the fact that I remembered that detail is a testament to how much of an impression it made
that option was added for people playing around family, or maybe for streamers

look at this beautiful purple tree. Maybe I need to install Counter-Strike Source to fix it
I had to do this mission twice because the emulator crashes whenever I select the grenade launcher
I carefully avoided the grenade launcher pickup on the second playthrough to avoid this mishap
Don't pick up Xenia's grenade launcher, or Xenia will crash. It's never been so meta
it's not a glitch it's a feature
I saw that, I don't have a console though

How the fuck can Edge save me money
I'm not paying for a browser
Unsurprising given the layoffs in tech industry
Lets hope dragon age 4 is good so that doesn’t happen with bioware
Regardless of whether dragon age 4 is good I assume they’ll just lay everyone off when it’s done anyway
It’s the way of the video game industry.
Energy efficiency I think is the claim?
no I think it intends to directly save you money by giving you coupons when shopping online or something
it has one of those browser addons preinstalled
or at least I think that was a thing at some point
Oh right, they had a thing with Honey or whatever it is
finished Hades

Welp, gonna need to upgrade my computer to play Hi-Fi Rush in a satisfactory manner
Maaaajor lag issues and in a game like this you really just can't have that happening
Kinda sucks but an upgrade was in order a long time ago now
I have thought about using Honey but it always seemed suspicous to me.
They're owned by PayPal so they can't be that suspicious
IGN has confirmed that the reason why Nintendo has opted out of participating in E3 2023 is because a “light second half release schedule”.
A previous report stated that Nintendo has no major games after Zelda: TotK, as they prepare the transition to their next-gen console.
3451
237
Are they really ''secret'' discounts though?
whoa!
Wait, Zelda TOTK will be the last Switch game?
Is that what that means?
get ready for the switch 2
"light" does not mean nonexistent
Hopefully it'll be a good console this time

maybe last major
Last major one yeah
We probably wont be seeing anything new other than ports if i had to guess
am very excited for TotK
RIP Metroid Prime 4
no
Same thing with Twilight Princess
I mean they re-released Skyward Sword basically unchanged for 60 bucks on the Switch you can put Twilight Princess in that sucker
Not sure why they never ported the 3ds versions of either one
my sources tell me that the switch 2 will have a non-traditional control scheme. Instead of having buttons or a normal controller, you where a track suit with sensors embedded in it and have to dance to make the character do anything

Pfff
Innovative!
god I hope it's still somewhat portable
i cant go back to having just a home console
suddenly controller drift isn't a bug, but a feature, when you slide to the left, then slide to the right, then-- get this-- take it back now
anyway that's how you get mario to jump
Seriously it's such a no brainer for me
That being said. At this point if your wanting something like the switch your better off getting the steam deck
Instead you're forced to play the shitty glitchy port of OG OOT on the shitty emulator

thanks Nintendo
it's not that bad lol
The Steam Deck is already getting old, it would be best to wait for the second gen Steam Deck if ever.
It shouldn't really be glitchy at all in the first place
It's not unplayable but it's also not the best way to experience OOT
Just connect your SwitchDS to your two living room televisions to begin
Steam Deck is already getting old
it's literally only a year old what
Everytime I talk about Nintendo it makes me wanna shake my fist in the air and scream out Nintendo!
I am sort of excited to see what they'll come up with for the next gen though
Nintendo literally has more money than they know what to do with, they admitted to this, the Switch was more of a success than they had planned
The hardware hasn't aged very well, the custom Ryzen processor is nice but AMD already has better technology that should help the second generation Steam Deck.
They got the budget to make something really cool, if they don't it's because they don't wanna
Will probably see something next year or 2025
i hope people don't get their hopes super high and aren't expecting something like 4k graphics or whatever
I mean back in the good ol' days Nintendo was the one with the powerful hardware
Gamecube was crazy powerful
Yeah now its nintendo with the weak hardware
They super lost that momentum
Gamecube was also 20 years ago
Also the screen is very terrible on the Steam Deck, I think it has bigger bezels than the Switch. I would kill for a Steam Deck with OLED or MiniLED.
Exactly
They just kinda stopped trying at one point, or at least they stopped trying as hard
Nintendo is also FAR less innovative than they were 20 years ago
It's a shame
In terms of games
you say this like the actual games have experienced a dip in quality Nire
But yeah, Nintendo only has two choices right now for the next console.
Either keep using ARM and get better components from someone (somehow) or risk reducing battery life in favor for x86_64 compatibility.
Something tells me its gonna be another ARM device.
idk what that means
I'm hoping that they'll go back to that and really try to compete with the other consoles when it comes to power and quality but that mostly usually comes from competition and Nintendo really has no competition at the moment, all their stuff is locked to their own consoles, even the bad games are a goldmine in revenue, even their subscription service that everyone complains about for good reasons makes enough money so that they didn't change it, the Switch was a tremendous success
They have no reason to change at all, but I hope they do
Have you seen the last few Pokemon games?
Although that's less of a fault in the console and more a fault of the devs
BOTW is still a super gorgeous game
you mean the games that are developed by Game Freak and not Nintendo?
They sort of must now, Switch sales are great but developers are screaming for better hardware. That Tegra chip is extremely old and inefficient.
I mean it's still a Nintendo game, it's Pokemon
the other games were also made by gamefreak before
Nintendo only publishes it
this is like calling Doom Eternal a Bethesda game
I mean fans have screamed for better hardware too but they got no reason to care as long as it still makes money
They have a reason.
Developers.
Developers are having serious issues porting games.
Companies don't care about the developers, come on now
/s
Its not about caring, its about having games for your platform.
How was the witcher 3 in the switch? I remember that game being praised for the super gorgeous visuals
major downgrades or something?
Terrible.
rip
Its a terrible port.
lol no it wasnt
20fps as the average frame rate, graphics look like potatoes, and you can barely see what is happening is not what I would call a good port.
Just saying.
k
And I'm not screaming for 60 4K FPS.
I can handle 30, but once you go below 30 its just a terrible experience.
i really hated that game idk how people like it
But yeah, we don't even know if the next console will be backwards compatible considering NVIDIA didn't buy ARM.
Gotta agree with needing at a bare minimum of 30 frames, especially for an action/adventure game.
https://youtu.be/aVmaupufOrQ
Well, I'll be honest, it's an extreme downgrade but..... still looks pretty good

Recorded with my dedicated RECORDING/STREAMING PC via Capture Card.
This video was directly Captured from my ULTRAWIDE GAMING Monitor OR my OLED 4K HDR GAMIN...
20 frames though....
that's not acceptable
Games playing like friggin Adobe Macromedia Flash games or something
It looks good because you see it on a big screen, scale it down on the Switch LCD and it looks so bad.
The steam deck can play most modern games at 40 frames and that's usually the best option, it's a nice inbetween with performance and ultra graphics
Maybe the Switch OLED would make it look better.
a game being at 20 fps was already unacceptable with Bloodborne you don't hear anyone shut up about that
i thought Bloodborne was 30
Wouldn't that be the opposite since it'd look better on a smaller screen than a bigger one?
It is, technically
But you do hear hundreds for a PC port because they would love it to be higher.
but the most common criticism is that a lot of the time the game dips below 30
unfortunately it seems like making fps number go big would also make game speed go big since they're tied from what I remember
so it would kinda break the game
literally
Bloodborne came out in 2015 it is not a currentyear game
2015 was not that long ago
literally 8 years ago
Yes, and by 2015 games weren't really frame dependent.
I was still a teenager
idfk anything about technical aspects i just like the game if good
Goddam frame rate issues were a thing in PCs in early days, but seeing a game from 2015 be limited with that is just... nightmare fuel levels.
So glad I didn't have an Xbox One or PS4.
Like I get it, game dev hard but 2015 technology was so much better by then. Specially for a big studio.
Yeah frames being tied to the game speed wasn't a thing that was done by 2015 I know time has passed since then but it's not like 2015 was super old tech MGSV literally came out in 2015
to be fair it was a ps4 exclusive and has remained so
possibly exclusively because of that issue
Yeah I suspect that.
I suspect that is the whole reason why there is no PC port of it lmao.
On another personal note, I should go back to playing RE3 and finish it because damn it's good
like, really really good
Like, might just be my favourite classic RE game good
I wonder how a lot of people defended and even enjoyed RE3R because wow this game is so much more fun
at least to me anyways
and much scarier too
What are you on about?
The screen is fine, the performance is fine (as long as you aren’t trying to dock the thing)
Nothing about it is “terrible”
A next gen steam deck only makes sense for Valve if it starts being unable to run the latest games acceptably
Valve has said when they do a second gen it’ll be entirely about battery life and performance will be unchanged
I've seen the screen, I think it looks worse than a regular Switch LCD but that's just me. Performance is pretty average, tends to heat up more than provide what it needs to supply.
What
I'd consider it terrible but understandable because Valve has never done a portable device.
You are just spouting nonsense
Sure.
Anyway, I just want the Steam Deck 2 to basically provide better bang for the buck and pretty much just improve the screen.
I’m sorry your $400 portable AAA gaming PC doesn’t have enough bang for the buck.
Sorry that my opinion is trashy :v
But yeah, I just don't see enough value.
OLED screen would be very nice.
It's a heck of an emulator machine too
Yeah but I don't know how the experience is with emulation.
lucky for you
The Steam Deck has a wealth of coverage, sure, but I fiddled with it harder than ten normal YouTubers combined. Listen to me complain about it for 35 minutes! While I have a cold! Welcome to hell!

Mind you, the video is like 3 months old and the steam deck has been regularly updating it's software so much that it might already be outdated but it's a pretty nice general review of the steamdeck's emulation side of things
That thumbnail lol.
ive heard the Steam Deck is a great emulation machine
i sorta want one tbh
You can also just connect a usb-c dock with display outputs and use it like a desktop PC
i dont think i have enough moneys for one tho
I hope they add those hall sensors, but I think you can get a mod?
YongYea recorded and edited a full video using only the steam deck I remember
does it have a camera/?
Nerrel is the king of thumbnails
Because holy crap I do not want another drift.
it does not
I think he just used a webcam

It's actually pretty impressive just how close it gets to his usual video's quality
Like, if you've never seen a yongyea video before, you might not even notice at all
You could technically just use OBS lol. But that would affect performance/benchmarks
I mean its cool that it can do that but I mainly just want battery, screen, better performance, and more lightweight. Also second revisions always tend to be better.
I mean there's literally always room for improvement sure but for what it is right now it's a very impressive piece of technology
I guess.
There is certainly room for improvement (though it’s not clear that there’s much room for it at the price point required and technology level available), but it’s far from terrible in any dimension.
When I say terrible, I mean the battery, screen primarily. Performance is a bit of mixed bag for me atm but I sorta expected it to be difficult.
Do you actually have one?
It wouldn't last me an hour using it.
Of course not, I'm waiting for the second gen. I've seen it and used one in public though.
I don’t think it’s actually possible for the power draw to be such that it would drain the battery in under an hour.
Yeah that is what I was afraid of.
And so far it seems to be pointing in that direction.
What?
I've seen people say that the battery life could definitely be improved upon and should be improved upon but I've also read that it lasts a fair amount of time definitely not common to drain it completely under an hour
Oh I would just try to make it run Windows 98 lmfao.
It wouldn't last a minute.
lool
86box be like "this is tresh"
why would you ruin the steamdeck by installing windows though
I don't think it's possible for the battery to last under an hour. It has a 40 Wh battery, and max power draw including the screen is less than 30 watts.
Because all the games I play are there and have never been re-released.
They also don't work well with Wine.
They also do not work with many other tools, they're very old and extremely picky with their environments.
DOSBox-X is also supposedly good for Win98 era stuff. Never tried it for that
DOSBox-X is like Gentoo
Setting it up is a freaking nightmare.
86Box has more sanity believe it or not, also has good voodoo support.
And yet it still isn't fucking available in australia
By the time it comes to australia, everybody will probably consider it a last gen machine
Valve probably hates Australia
They've had lawsuits to deal with from what I remember.
I forget what it was, I could be misremembering.
I think it was either lootboxes or something to do with game ratings, or how the store functioned.
Aah okay
is cyberpunk 100% first person?
The Valve Index also took a while to get to Australia. And also is only through third party sellers I believe
Except on vehicles.
meh
steam deck is crazy
and all the tech it brought with it
the amount of games that now work on linux and devs wanting to make sure their games work on them
even helped intel with their gpus
For once, Linux is a reasonable target. The key thing that was missing was a standard platform.
intel gpus were shit on dx9
so they now are using DXVK translator to vulkan
the amount of games that are now "steam deck verified"
before devs would not even remember linux existed
Now target MacOS
wait the DXVK translator should also work on macOS no?
Actually... I don't see why it couldn't
Well there’s no vulkan on macOS.
So there’s that
You end up with DXVK for DirectX to Vulkan, then Molten for Vulkan to Metal
Which is another incomplete translation layer to throw in
Huh
I just find that interesting. using PCSX2, at least in burnout 3, Vulkan worked better than the Metal renderer
Maybe just comes down to optimizations
I'm somewhat sick of all this stuff with optimizations and software support. I guess it is just still too early in this ARM transition. And not enough people want to support Mac
I guess I shouldn't expect more support. It is an OS you get by buying stuff from only one company
you know a feature I don't see much people talk about on steam deck
steam link
that thing works flawless
pretty much I can run any game on my pc at max, and play in bed
Oh definitely, steam link is amazing
and I don't have to do shit
I think probably cause people focus on running the games on the deck itself, but.. When you're home and you got a gaming pc, then stream the games.
I just turn on the steam deck and pops up on my pc that steam link is available
Annoyingly, verification has been revoked from many games as well.
Only issue is the added latency. I still have to work out my latency with steam deck. Doom Eternal is very impossible to play.
And some verified games are broken later without losing their verified status.
Still some work to do.
Some genres of games will never work on Steam Deck, though.
I do still find hard to play portal and other shooters on the deck
Like Factorio and city builders/4X strategy games, etc. The ergonomics are just fundamentally terrible for that/
yeah those too
Dwarf Fortress will never make sense on Deck XD
It would need to be a soft tip capacitive stylus
maybe in a future ver of the deck adding a stylus would be nice
Why do I feel an urge to just fully ditch my desktop PC and just use my laptop. Why is the idea of using only a laptop so appealing.
Portability is nice
Yeah
I think cause for all of my high school life and uni life, a laptop was my main pc
But I have my desktop and it is good for gaming, so I'll still use it
i still travel a lot between placed on weekends (visitin my sister and parents), so laptop is better for me
Yeaah. For some time I wasn't travelling much, but now I find I'm starting to travel around for work.
i can run anythin i wanted to play so, good enough for me. ff14's limsa may be a city with like four frames per second but thats okay i dont like hangin in that city anyway

Yeaah. In some ways now I wish I got a windows laptop. Since I realize I actually kinda do want to game on my laptop too, not just work.
Good to be able to play games during downtime
Buuut I do also still want a steam deck
So steam deck would then replace laptop gaming anyway
And gaming on a macbook feels cool anyway. Playing Project Brutality Doom for like 6 hours on a road trip was cool.
But then when I'm home, I might as well game on desktop
...goldeneye got a remake?
It doesn't quite look like a remake. Definitely a HD port.
I think they also play faster than the original too. Because of the way the frame rate slowed down the N64 version.
continuing the content warnings conversation: now here's one that I personally appreciate
I am not great with needles
Goldeneye did get a remake, published by Activision and developed by Eurocom. It was ok-ish…
Looks like in the beta branch, the Steam Deck interface is now the new BigPicture mode
Shame it's completely unusuable for me because of how nonresponsive it is
https://www.pcgamesn.com/forspoken/update-1-002-destroys-game-pc "destroys", but oops regardless
Fun fact: I don't have a source off-hand, but apparently Hi-Fi Rush, in its first week, has vastly outsold Forspoken. Lines up with the fact that the former has been on Top Sellers for a little while, while Forspoken has not
And HFR did this on a shadow drop
Forspoken just seems meh
And is on game pass
good point, you can get away with no marketing when you're effectively giving it away
No I mean, if with top sellers you mean steam top sellers, that would speak to the fact that even more people played it
Hi-Fi isn't doing the new high price point.
Hi fi is more a double A price point, as I've seen it called
Like Hellblade and other mid sized games big publishers put out in recent years
Honestly, I want to see more of releases of that scope in the future, AAA games with huge budgets are way too tied in red tape to try anything original, but these smaller releases with still some decently sized backing are a great compromise
That's only for the companies who do things by the numbers. No one else was doing western simulators like RDR2, BotW was different from the other 3D Zeldas. Elden Ring took souls into the open world without copying the creed style.
Glad DF is doing well.
So, who here has played Octopath Traveler? I found out this morning that the sequel is coming out this month, and I've barely touched the original since I first got it. Now that I'm home from surgery and will probably be out of work for several weeks I wanna play it, but I kinda suck at big games like that. I always second guess myself with multiple branching paths for fear of "fucking up" or permanently missing out on a cool weapon or character. Any broad, general, non-spoiler hints for the game?
so I haven't and won't play Elden Ring, and thus this is all secondhand, but I'm curious about this specific point since I've heard contradictory claims which may or may not be mere differences of wording:
the most in-depth description of Elden Ring's "open world" I've watched concluded it was mechanically about the same as most other AAA open world, but it might feel different because the UI doesn't provide an on-screen objective waypoint, "you are here" arrow, or minimap littered with icons (even though optional stuff is similarly littered around the landscape); did you have something else in mind or does that sound right?
When I play BOTW I generally kept UI stuff to a minimum to maximize exploration. Although, I would still use the big map to help keep track of objectives and plot a vague route, I might go "ooooh a thingy!" and detour briefly
I can help with that
that's roughly what I've always tried to do when I end up deciding to play an open world, and sometimes (like in BotW) it really works that way at first, but it always eventually devolves into the overworld boring me until I look up where the objective is and run directly to it
It's not the absence of those indicators that makes the game special, but the fact that the game has systems to subtly guide you to interests points.
The way the map is designed, where some enemies are placed, some hints given by NPCS or by buying vendor notes, and some other more direct ways (there are candelabra that when interacted with spawn ghostly NPCs you can follow for example)
Those are much better ways to guide players to interest points, that don't completely murder the sense of exploration
or the giant glowing tree?
The tree is a good reference point so you don't get lost yeah
I remember thinking about various games in the past I've played that didn't do on-screen waypoints and tried to merely tell you where to go in words or whatever
but almost without exception they end up requiring me to look something up
It also depends on the type of player you are, some prefere more guided experiences
it's a tricky balance
And ER has a more direct form of guidance for the main story
All of those more subtle systems are generally for extra content
I don't want to be spoonfed so heavily that I feel like Stanley at his computer, but it seems like any game that doesn't at least tell me which room or which building to go to leads to me wasting a lot of time on places that I was never meant to be looking closely at
speaking of waypoints
Like, if you want to follow the main story, there isn't much subtlety to it
one of my few complaints with Dead Space is that you can't enable more than one at a time, not even a side objective that's along the way to the main objective
Also all NPCs tells you to follow that shit
I do like the idea of the map having a concrete direction without a concrete destination point
Elden Ring's world doesn't scale with levels, there's not much randomness to it, you also don't run into a thing every 5 seconds.
I'm not sure I've played a game that did scale an open world by level
That's sadly most Creed games, and Elder Scrolls after Morrowind.
ah
Skyrim
Skyrim benefits from scaling much of the world by level but also goes way overboard to its detriment
Elden Ring is also similar to BotW, 98% of the game is optional, I think you only need to kill 2 oft the major bosses.
I thought that was also standard for "open worlds"
unless you mean 98% as opposed to 80-90%
never tried to count what it was in Witcher 3
For Skyrim the main quest is like ten to twenty hours long
That's quite beefy. You can't go straight to Alduin and beat him up
You have to take every step of the main quest
It's all about the paths, if you want to find more about the lore/world and story in Elden Ring then you'll have to explore, if you don't really care about the story you can smash through a few bosses and head to the end.
I do think they went a bit overboard, I feel like the game should have a journal that recaps what the NPCs you interacted with said.
I think they also know that they went a bit too far on that side, they placed a lot of icons across the map to remind you where NPCs are since release
In souls they could get away without a journal because it was more linear, ER should really have one
Hope they do one for ER2
Or the next game they do that carries the torch forward
Nouveau Bracelet

on a completely unrelated note
I think that's just the design of the game, they know if you can't keep track you can lean on the community.
Soul games have massive communities.
Yeah but it's a bit much this time, I was fine with it in Souls but this is really a 20 hours between NPCs interactions
It's kind of like when everyone was trying to figure out all the RDR2 mysteries.
me too! i love how in BOTW you can tell if Link is cold or hot just by his animations without the temp gauge
And I'm not advocating a questlog, just a transcripts of the NPCs dialogue, in case you need to reference it
I think you can always go back to the npcs and ask for directions, the ones that lead to endings don't really disappear.
I love that in this futuristic sci-fi setting people are still leaving ordinary coffee cups lying around on any flat surface in reach of a chair
It's always fun for details like that!
