oh no it's the SA-X
Oh! You're already there
Have fun
This is one of the very few saving rooms with more than one entrance
that weirded me out the moment I walked into it
I can't figure out if I'm later or earlier into the game than you think I am, or somehow both
You're much later than I thought
In randomizer runs specifically, being able to access Ukinn-Na means you're two thirds of the way into the speedrun, but in normal gameplay you're closer to one third to a half
I think the hallways leading here only needed... disruptor 2 and lab cloak?
so I guess that sounds right
well, probably indirectly, I doubt you can get those without high jump
grapple probably not, I definitely got it after disruptor 2 and haven't used it anywhere on the left half of the world yet
Speaking of which, the grappling hook is very clunky in the way it's implemented
A lot of speedrun skips use it to skip doors, do zips and get out of bounds, but I've not been able to learn how to do that because of how tricky it is
At the end of Ukinn-Na you'll get a great gadget upgrade, so it's definitely a good way to go
#outofcontext: that last room had far too many sperm
God, Ukinn-Na is so bad
If I could take out one part of the game this would be the one every time
eh, I enjoyed that gauntlet
oh and this is easily the most interesting pre-boss conversation yet
Oh you're already done
I am confused in a good way
It's fun the first time around, sure, but it gets real old real quick when you just want to get through the zone
huh, still haven't found an upgrade here
Are you all done with the "boss"?
yes
You'll want to make your way back and explore the rooms leading to it
There's a few new entrances you couldn't see before
It's five rooms away from the starting save room
oh that's just mean
THERE WE GO
This is so much better than the one before
it even does diagonals
Later on your coat becomes the fastest way to move
So you may want to bind double tapping to the controller
So you won't have to keep double tapping and hurt your fingers
this is such a silly Indi map I've ended up with
Eden is also a zone where you'll have a silly map for a while
now I see what you meant by fast travel
The giant head!
(They should really have given you the option to travel between save points or something)
The giant head fast travel interacts in a funny way with drones and weapons
SteamOS 3.4 is now out with several updates to the kernel.
What is a kernel
the core of an operating system
It's like the little bits of code that run everything else
(exactly what that means depends on the OS)
Basically it’s the most fundamental code that underpins the operating system itself.
There's several types of them, but generally a few things hold true:
1- You don't mess with the kernel unless you really know what you're doing.
2- You don't let anyone mess with the kernel.
yeah, dont let anyone mess with the corn
a typical example of what would be in the kernel would be the process scheduler
I store all my corn in ring 0
your computer is probably running several dozen processes right now; the scheduler is what actually switches between those processes several times a second, and decides how much time to spend on each one
typical examples of what would be in an operating system, but not in its kernel, might include hardware drivers (for keyboards, monitors, mice) or the file system (you know, folders and files) or the UI bits you personally see like the taskbar and start menu and Windows settings menus
And if you disregard rule 2, kernel level anticheats for videogames
though Windows prefers to be a monolith so you never hear about Windows kernel updates, just all-of-Windows-at-once updates
keeping the kernel separate enough that it gets its own updates is a very Linux-y thiing
Yeah. Even macOS kernel updates are rolled into the regular OS updates.
So you don’t see them.
Same as Windows.
Aren't the UI bits just explorer.exe?
(Incidentally, Apple also includes BIOS updates this way)
I don't know Windows in that much detail unfortunately
I know because it used to crash a lot, taking everything down
The fix was to Ctrl+alt+delete and open the run menu to start explorer.exe manually
Bad old days
(in my university course on operating systems, our homework included making changes to Minix's process scheduler and file system and so on)

I played X-Golf today. Virtual golf.
Was quite good aside from when putting or when you didn't hit the ball on the screen
Idk whether to count it under gaming or sport
Probably both

Just causally drop a trailer for a free content update
Sure
I love it
Today I learned you can search your steam library by games other friends have https://i.imgur.com/ttCpiRP.png
This is really long due
Also the four of us should play Monaco
Huh, I feel like that's pretty new, don't remember seeing that
nice!
i have been meaning to give that game a go for multiple years now
I did give it a try and it actually wasn't very enjoyable solo
forever searching for the rush that is heroes of hammerwatch
Heroes of Hammerwatch = Heroes of Hammerwatch
They keep changing the dumb system https://i.imgur.com/6NChibI.png
It's highlighted again
I do think the current behavior is better than when forums originally rolled out
It is better than the start but it's worse than one day ago when they had unobstrusive counters
personally I'd still get rid of the number of posts when none are new; that information is only useful if I'm going to click on it and browse posts anyway
Yeah
I mean, I don't think they got "more obtrusive"
I noticed the new posts case change from a number with a slightly different pair of shades of foreground/background gray, to the current number and "New" word, so now it's actually possible to figure out it's for new posts
The difference is last time it was grayscale like this
Now there's a "new" indicator and a highlight, despite the fact I've seen all the post
Now I have to click them to stop them from being new, instead of just look at them
oh the issue is the criterion of newness
weird, that hasn't happened on my end
I never clicked into most of #1032714873009872967 posts but it's still in the "nothing new" state for me right now
It did just change today
That's odd
Yep. I can finally find out what the fuss is all about.
You can log in with your phone
The website :X
That being said the original Fallouts are very dated
It has isometric graphics so I'm excited.
Ah, I've heard a lot about that.
It's the best isometric view videogame
Actively developed, has support for modern hardware, online multiplayer
Oh duh, I'm a silly horse
One hour
This counts as general gaming right?
Ya
First place! Well done
Thanks, lol. Was from last night.
Do I get more settlers from every colony, at the cost of the ability to convert, or do I get a smaller amount of settler but also be able to convert? https://i.imgur.com/pYLYjig.png
Global tariffs, tolerance of heathens and opinion are not important
I've still got Axiom Verge, multiple Hitmans, Magicka, Baba is You, and maybe trying an easy mode mod of Sekiro, and that's just what I have installed and unfinished right now
maybe someday but that's definitely not coming soon lol
I'm finishing spiderman, I wanted to go back to Elite Dangerous, Potion Craft and Signalis
Plus the ongoing FFXIV thing
Tale's probably gonna have me on another FE or RE soon enough anyway
although if Flitter's watching: after Axiom Verge, what's another Metroidvania I should play but haven't?
remember that article from Hard Drive though: any game in your backlog is 100% off, as long as you already have it 🙂
Steamworld Dig 2!
can recommend steamworld dig 2
You only played it for an hour, but it's great
spying on your friends games is half the fun of spying!
I also recommend Monster Sanctuary, Yoku's Island Express, Shovel Knight, Timespinner, Teslagrad
I feel like I should've heard of more than 2 of these
A lot of them are pretty small
You know Monster Sanctuary and Shovel Knight
Yoku's Island Express is a pinball metroidvania. Good music, great atmosphere, movement is a little frustrating
TimeSpinner is a traditional Metroidvania where the gimmick is you travel through time. It's really nice and has a lot of work put into it
Teslagrad is a puzzle Metroidvania with excellent art and music
I get Ori, Castlevania, and Layton vibes from their respective aesthetics
ok all wishlisted
Teslagrad has world puzzles, physics, magnets, lights
More like Hollow Knight than Layton
It also has combat
Speaking of steam sale, I still have 2 Steam codes for NFS Unbound's top edition (80$ version). I'll exchange it for whoever gets something off of my steam wishlist's top 20. Works great with the winter sales to get a good deal 😉
I am good for it, plenty of testimonies from this server/channel
Shovel Knight is so gooooood
I dunno why Shovel Knight strikes me as one I'm just not in the mood for
I should really put it on the list anyway, it's not like a wishlist is a commitment
...wait I literally can't find the original game, there's so much spinoff junk for it now
If you want to try the original search for Shovel of Hope
oh is that the original?
Though imo Treasure Trove (which is all 4 campaigns in one) is better value.
Yes
aaaah, is Shovel of Hope a retronym they added after making the 3 prequels?
Ye
considering all this stuff is half off atm Treasure Trove is really hard to argue with, so I'll wishlist that one for now
maybe I'll end up rolling dice to pick something
:pippwiggle:
Get Treasure Trove for sure
Shared from another server...
LMAO
God. Damn. It.

Could never get used to that controller, guess that’s my loss tho
Heh
Doesn’t help that most games on our N64s run way slower
I needed this hint to get it

Everytime something I don't get in a pic, it's either Loss or Amongus, so I just move on

I'm very oblivious about this stuff

I listened to the soundtrack of that for many hours before I actually played the game for the first time
Dwarf Fortress Steam Edition now supports the classic ASCII mode.
Oh cool!!
You can make it incomprehensible again!
I've only played the demo that was on PS3/360
so I only know of the first track and that boss theme
lol I keep watching tutorials on how to play the new DF but I haven't bought it yet
I'm having a bit of fun with it even though I don't really know what I'm doing
game got unlisted before broke ass middle school me could scrounge up enough change to get it
I feel like if the graphical version was available when I was much younger I would've been obsessed with it.
Like how I was obsessed with the original Sims
Interesting though
Twenty years of development and it's still a single-threaded app
I downloaded the original version when I first got my laptop because I was like "oh ive heard good things about this game and I also like dwarves" and then tried playing it and was so confused
Yeah, I've basically always heard of it but never wanted to try it because it was ASCII
The GUI version is what I've been waiting for and it just took way too long to come out haha
Hithroc showed me how to play, but I didn't get very far into it
there are so many great ascii style games that suggesting is difficult due to the learning floor
cataclysm dark days ahead port to a easier to access medium when
I'm thinking of picking up this list of games https://i.imgur.com/QuSrxj4.png
just king doesn't really have enough variaty of content so far imo, astronarch and snkrx are fun though
I think I'm willing to give it a try with what I've seen, though I could also drop it and pick up Afterparty, by the Oxenfree developers

The first step does Doom
I'm disappointed to see they switched to clickbaut thumbnails
Is that really clickbait though? To me that seems like more of a cheeky pun.
It's the clickbait format of funny face and arrow
Tbf, the line between clickbait and pun are very thin (at least in this case)
I don't see any funny faces. Pretty sure that's the actual cover art. And yeah, the arrow is there, but that doesn't necessarily mean "clickbait".
Other videos in the channel were doing the same thing for a while. Whether they do clickbait on which GDQ Hotfix group is making the video
but the funny doom man is taking his first step so I feel that it's earned
#AxiomVerge: all right, there's definitely nothing left to find in Eribu, time to given Edin another chance after dying there twice yesterday
oh hey, I finally found one of these
Katrahaska is the Rusalki that sided with Athetos and had to be terminated by the others, right?
I'm trying to work out who wrote these green notes I can read now
the "Plan B" note in particular is
I'm with you on the area names, IMO the Rusalki are fine though
They're fine but I'm not gonna remember them
how dare they reset me to the previous save point without my consent
It's okay because you're not real
oooh, this new Lightning Gun might be even better than the Voranj for room clearing
The basic blaster is one of the best weapons if you time each shot properly
Mashing leads to it firing slower
I do appreciate that it's never a bad choice, and I still fall back to it when I need to hit something far away in a conveniently straight line several times
my current weapon preferences are largely based on the assumption I have no idea where the enemies will be coming from or how they'll move
Speaking of which
The boss in Edin has a quick kill that makes it a lot easier, especially if you're playing on hard mode
And it involves the hacking gun and the things it spawns
Speaking of which, a classic-only version is now available for free on http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
Still includes the new UI and everything, just not the fancy graphics unless you get the steam/itch version
she apologized already because she assuemd it'd be weeks late
But it's early I guess?
:twiggiehappy:
. . . wait
Where is twiggiehappy
Twiggie emojis were removed

What should I load up on this bitch
What's that one game you're always playing
that would never work
I'd have a struggle playing any shooter I think
I'm so stuck on M+K for those
Fell Seal is def on there
My suggestion (and constant thought process) is Batman Arkham
Hades good
I need to try Hades
Wow, she's awesome. you should wife her!
With a gift like that, maybe! It's so hard to tell
Makes sense. I personally think rdr2 is fine on controller. Some other fast paced fps games not so much. I feel like it is slow paced enough that it works well.

All of the skull kid's reactions to link using the telescope in the legend of zelda majora's mask. Thanks for watching, please leave a like, comment and subscribe.
I can see why people love Majora's Mask a lot
The fact that the developers even bothered to do this and the fact that they are entirely optional and you may not even see them
It kinda reflects on the whole game design of this game as a whole, I can see it being a sort of inspiration for BOTW in how ''open'' the design is, the game is extremely hands off about pretty much everything and when games do that kind of stuff, yes, it's a bit hard, I never managed to beat this game ever, but it makes the game feel all that much more alive
✨Nintendo Polish✨
makes it feel like a real place you're visiting and not just a videogame world
Ironically enough it's not really polish because Majora's Mask is literally an asset flip
Nintendo is particularly good at it
Eh, sometimes
Yeah, but MM as a game itself is an exception
the 3ds remake wasn't as good
MM was thrown together in one year
Me too
Oof
I mean sometimes it takes more or less time

There was apparently a whole arg based around it
Ben Drowned I mean
Majora's Mask is so creepy
apparently the director completely regrets MM and wishes people forgot it ever happened
good luck with that dude

Lmao what
It's not the type of game you can replicate under normal circumstances
Oh Aonuma directed MM
Part of why I like Twilight Princess so much is that it approached the grimdark theming of older Zelda’s like MM and OoT
Eiji Ounuma said it was a dark time in his life, and I feel like that is reflected in the game, also the fact that it was under heavy time restrictions meant that a lot of decisions in the development didn't really have time to be questioned or changed soo.... they just rolled with it
and that's why the remake is so underwhelming I feel
lots of unnecessary changes or changes that dull or bring down the uniqueness of the game and what made it great
Aonuma
Yeah, the design of some of the dungeons, like Snowpeak, really shows their time constraints
I dislike Snowpeak because it looks so basic/prototypical
But the forest temple is so well fleshed out
The stone temple is fascinating though
The only Zelda's I've played to completion are Zelda 1, 2, ALttP, Awakening, and BOTW
I have a type
I played OOT, TP and BOTW
The only Zelda’s I haven’t played to completion are Zelda 2, Minish Cap, Link Between Worlds and Skyward Sword
Zelda 1 and 2 are great but you have to play with a guide otherwise you'll get totally lost
LttP is a masterpiece, Awakening is a neat little game especially for Gameboy (or Switch which is what I played it on) and I can't say anything about BOTW that hasn't been said a billion times before
LttP is the best 2D Zelda, hands down.
Ye
I really do have a soft spot for Awakening tho, it's such a funky weird little game and I love it
Awakening too
I haven't played LBW or Minish Cap
Minish Cap is pretty good
I just haven’t finished it because life happened
I haven’t touched LBW
I have a GBA SP that I lost the charger for so if I bought a new one and a Minish Cap cartridge I could play it
I don't wanna emulate because I have the means to play legally
And idk there's something special about playing on original hardware
LBW is in fact the only Zelda I’ve never touched at all

LBW I hear is extremely good
I'm not sure why you're eating it
Oh there's also Phantom Hourglass
I remember touching that game once
I hear it's good!
I can't really contribute to this topic but it's still interesting seeing what names people put higher or lower
I hear all the WW sequels are at least good
Ooooh the Oracle games are also really good I've heard
I tried Oracle of Seasons once I think
But it's very much like the old timey zeldas, like the original link's awakening, so I could never get into it unfortunately
they should remake those
Link Between Worlds has a cute zelda

pretty
You should really try Zelda 1 and LTTP
I'd never be able to play Zelda 1
I know there's a japanese only remake of it though
I tried a link to the past before but couldn't get super into it
BS Legend of Zelda?
For the Satellaview?
That's the only thing I can think of
Were the zelda games ever truly made for kids actually? Or just intended to be kid friendly.
I feel like kid friendly and for kids are different things
yeh
Definitely for kids
Nintendo mostly aims at kids
Like with Breath of the Wild. It is perfectly safe for kids, but also such a great game for adults.
Ah
Doesn't mean kid stuff can't have dark stuff in it or can't be enjoyed by adults, but they always aimed for kids specifically
Yeah
as time goes on, stereotypes change and the kids who grew up on the first zeldas also grow up, and well, even though before adults were ''meant'' to ''grow up'' and ''grow out'' of videogames, nowadays things are different
Yeah
so it's inevitable that even for children's cartoons you'll find that most of the times they're gonna be kid friendly and not necessarily for kids only unlike something like baby's cartoons, like stuff that is just noise and has literally nothing to say or nothing to do other than being something for a child to watch
ben 10 was always for kids but you can definitely watch that as an adult and actually enjoy it
Wow I remember Ben 10
Yeah makes sense
I like that they used a slight redesign of link between worlds zelda as the zelda in smash ultimate
I know the hero is called Zelda, what is the princess called?
I want to hold her hand
@gaunt marten
same
they also modded Princess Hilda into the game

Midna supremacy
Reminder that Midna x Link is canon
Quick, list off some good Nintendo DS games that aren't Pokemon games
back when the DS was brand new, I think I mostly played Meteos and Trauma Center: Under the Knife
ignoring past GBA and then-future 3DS games
That works
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
See how well critics rated all Nintendo DS video game releases at metacritic.com
it would be better if it shows our favorite game instead
Mario Kart DS and Super Mario 64 DS
Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic Colors DS, Professor Layton (Curious Village, Diabolocal Box, Unwound Future, and Last Spectre), almost all the Lego games, etc.
ace attorney franchise and 999 (9 persons 9 hours 9 doors) also come to mind
How could I forget AA
i really need to replay 999 i forgot most of it
i kept tryin to figure out why those pl titles sounded weird, and then it turned out its a name change thing. eu releases call them pandora's box, lost future and spectre's call
Nice work! If you ever want to play it some more, it is highly replayable. I do recommend you go for at least all items
Don't forget to vote for game of the year contenders and maybe check out your steam suggestion queue for a bunch of free cards you can resell
Looks like someone in my house used a script to mass-sell their steam items, blocking the whole house from accessing their steam inventories for now https://i.imgur.com/xyDrjtY.png
Welp, I think I'll pick up Dwarf Fortress on steam and play it over the break
You should first play similar games and graduate up in complexity to Dwarf Fortress

i should play more oni, its a really fun and complex game
I don't like it because of personal preference
Why not just jump straight into DF?
Because odds are you're gonna stumble around for five hours, mess up countless times and then decide the game is not for you
It's very complex
The tutorial sucks, too, so you're gonna need to do a lot of outside guides and wiki reading
I think I saw a recent video on youtube, "DF for beginners"... was still like 1.5 hours long
Great
Then you can probably give it a try
Just be patient and expect losses from things you could not account for
Good advice! Thank you
It's not a game you win, it's a game you try to keep your dwarves alive as long as possible until it devolves into chaos and madness
"winning", as far as I've seen, is managing to create a self-sustaining and resilient fort
Plentiful resources, automated defenses and traps, etc
Rimworld Is a lot more directed in regards to creating a story
Your colony will be given room to expand and threats that scale dynamically with how you handle them
While Dwarf Fortress tries to be a simulator first and a story generator second
DF's story comes from the simulation
The downside of that approach is that a lot of stories arising from simulation are not fun
I like Dwarf Fortress a lot, especially in regards to the depth of simulation it goes and the focus on dwarf culture and such
But my ideal version of dwarf fortress will be quite different from this one

This was a... 2021 or 2020 release

What's the video say?
What do you mean

Does it make any points, or does it talk about the history of Spyro in general?
Idk I haven't watched it yet!
Oh
Uuuuugh...had this video come out years ago when I was still a Caddicarus fan and when he was still using his old style of content, I would've been over the moon. But with his modern style of editing, "humor", and overuse of memes, I just can't take him seriously anymore.
Plus, I dread to think about what he'll say regarding the Legend trilogy, and I know he'll rip it to shreds without a single thought just to appease the multitudes.
Hard pass, sorry.

Finally got to 2000 hours in this game. I have way over 1000 hours in dmc5 on my ps4 and i have a bit over 600 on pc. I originally was gonna release this vid like a week or 2 ago but decided to hold off. It's been a while since i've actually sat down and made some dante combos in Devil May Cry 5. It was honestly really fun and now u guys can act...
also just gonna drop this here for anyone interested because it's one of my favourite DMC5 videos
I will never stop talking about how much I love all the insane stupid shit you can pull off in these games
it's genuinely impressive
I started a Portal 2 playthrough yesterday, I never took the time to finish it before
Merry Dukesmess
what are you waiting for? crismas?
Death Stranding Director Cut is free on Epic Games.
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/death-stranding-directors-cut
Damn... Director's Cut Edition
omg omg!! I was planning to buy it, this is amazing
servers are (expectedly) hammered though
Yeah, I'm gonna remove that from my wishlist bucket
Oh dang, that's a biggie
Isn't that his middle name
Is Slay the Spire good?
Yes, but you have to like the genre
Roguelike?
If you like deck building and rogue-likes, it's probably the best product out there as far as mechanics goes
Monster train is also very good, the presentation is definitely better, but it's not as good as Slay the Spire as far as how good the mechanics are and how finely tuned the game is

Damn, the steam version has mod support, so I guess you're gonna play vanilla STS
The graphic has its charm but it's definitely not the best it could be.
That said it has crow people that go "CA-CAW"
So that's a big upside
I never modded it, so my opinion is based on the vanilla version
Epic store must be getting hammered, I can't even sign in.
When I try to go by the website
Ah, the traditional Christmas DDoS
weird
Not at all, it's a massively famous game so everyone wants to get it for free
When GTA.... 3? 4? was free on epic that one time, it also crashed it
was gta 5 iirc
So with my money I got Pokémon Scarlet, Slay the Spire, Spyro Reignited, and Spelunky 1 and 2
DS is marked as unavailable on EGS now
Edit: I managed to claim it but it's the base game, not director's cut
@green fulcrum I bought Spyro Reignited is there anything I should know before dtarting
Looks like the Director's Cut was not supposed to be the free version. It's now just "on sale," and the regular version is free.
Congrats to those who snagged the DC while it was up.

Imagine they took away the DC edition from your account after fixing the mistake

still, I can't believe Death Stranding is just being given away for free
jesus

I missed the directors cut
I knew death stranding was going to be free but it wasn't meant to be the director's cut
just remember, she's not a goat
Spyro 1 is harder than 2 and 3, and has far fewer mobility options. It's also structured very differently and has a weaker storyline. Just bear with it and you'll get it. There will, however, be two levels in Spyro 1 that you will need to watch a guide for to get to certain areas which are necessary for 100% completion.
Spyro 2 is much easier and a lot more fun, and also a lot less linear. Once you'll reach it you'll have a much better time with playing. It's my favorite of the trilogy, and it has the best hub worlds, best minigames, best music, and best levels.
Spyro 3 is like 2, but harder and a lot more gimmick-heavy. I didn't enjoy it as much as 2, but there's still lots of fun to be had in it, and it's leagues better than the first one.
Yeah
Play 2 first, then 3 then 1, unless you're ready for a rough time
Spyro 1 is genuinely hard at times, even with the slightly reduced difficulty that comes with the remaster
I actually thought Spyro 1 was the easiest
At first
Until you reach the swamp level with all the enemies, for example
Or the treetop level where it's next to impossible to find everything
they're fine
They're not fine. I have a terrible time with them each time I play
shit only gets hard when you're expected to do some inane minigame
And Spyro 1 is one of my favorites
spyro 4 when
Oh yeah, the flying minigames have pretty difficult timing too
I don't think Insomniac has any of the Spyro staff remaining
Who is Bob
Hello Bob
the developer of the reignited games
they did a good job and as a reward they were consumed by Call of Duty
it's like when you do really good at balancing the accounts and your boss is like 'this is fine work johnson, come, let me give you a reward' and he straight up stabs you
Pffffft
My biggest problem with the remaster is how they didn't make the skyboxes as enchanting and beautiful as the original. They looked fine but that's it
THE PROPHECY IS TRUE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aZ3uBdEuVg
FeelsBadMan
Just getting the quote uploaded.
If Murphy isn't in Rayman 4 I will burn down Ubisoft myself
oh looking at the article it's the cancelled prototype of Rayman 4 that leaked, not a new project.
throws a table
And this is why I'm rooting for Microsoft to buy Activision and Blizzard, because Microsoft will absolutely not sit on Spyro and do nothing. They'll keep him alive.
Microsoft brings back Spyro but it’s a fps
a 1995 prototype of Prey also leaked today
(way before the Prey 1998 video you may have seen floating around, it's closer to Build Engine in terms of complexity)
Untrue: they made that one weird vehicle-building game. Then killed it forever.
I am sure they would treat Spyro equally well.
I cannot see anything good coming of Microsoft buying Activision.
What is this vehicle game you talk of?

and there it is, 100% achievement completion in the Quake re-release
(I did it on the first attempt, 2 minutes after joining a server)
Good job!!!

I just wonder what version this means

man, I just hate that it's epic doing this
I kinda refuse to use Epic
I have like a hundred free games thanks to that
IIRC it has some artbook thingy that came with the base game as well on Steam at least
It could be that
I've always wondered if that's really a sustainable model
I mean they don't give away most big games but every once in a while they do so technically speaking all one has to do is just wait until they make that one game you want free
what if everyone starts doing that?
for the most part theyve given out some banger games
they want people to buy Director's Cut here 🙂
(conspiracy theory: they did the whole mistake thing so people are getting FOMO for it)
afaik the director's cut thing was an accident and they only meant for the regular version to be free
To be fair, with Steam people were waiting until they could pay 5 bucks or less, and the game industry would have been just as in trouble if everyone wanted to pay 5 bucks for every game
The "biggest" games they've put on epic are this and one of the GTAs, I think it was 4?
GTA V
True, but I still wonder if giving away games for free is really a good model
Yeah it was GTAV
5 yeah
Right, I was thinking 5 but it felt too new
gta 5 is like 10+ years old at this point lol
GTA5 is 10 years old almost
Came out in 2013
I feel like saying that is making Tcherno experience existencial dread right now
Also counterpoint, here they are giving some money to the devs for every copy they give away for free
So you are not paying the money, but they are to the developers...technically then they are paying for the game for you rather than it being free
It's why I always get the game even if I'll never play it, I'd rather devs get more money

weird
usually these people just want more money for themselves, Steam takes a cut for every purchase IIRC
why would they give money to the devs while giving away games for free? what do they get?
Jeez, I admit I forgot how long ago it released. I just thought "hmm, not the current one, surely"
because they arent as bad as people make them out to be lol
Epic needs to get some market share to make their store relevant for developers, and giving games away is a way to do that
I mean it's a marketing push to get more people comfortable with using the Epic thingy, it probably comes out of their marketing budget.
Nire: it's all a ploy to get people to use Epic more as their regular storefront rather than steam. So if there's regular free games there, people "use" epic more and have a higher chance of actually spending money there
that's not...
even the 'best' bussinesses are out there to make money and their main objective is always to make money, they're not running a charity
Yeah their ultimate objective is to make more money out of it, like every company ever
i keep forgetting their fee is only 12% lol
Well, that would make sense, since right now even with other stores Steam is still very much king
But this one thing at least, seems to be relatively benign for the industry
Like, if you have to spend marketing dollars, giving away free games and compensating developers in the process is pretty good, especially given how scummy the industry is
I think the AC games ended up going to steam recently too instead of the Uplay thing
A weird analogy is kindof like "hey, there's a grocery store on the other side of town. Has some brands you like. But there's a new store that is 5 minutes away from you. Might not have the brands you like but it's right there"
they still rely on Uplay (renamed to Ubisoft Connect), you just happen to buy them on Steam
Granted
but I think you get what i mean, kinda?
Is Uplay any less of a wreck these days?
I mean I kinda understand it even without the analogy, I just found it weird when Genryu mentioned they pay the devs/publisher everytime they give away a copy for free
I'm not sure it's every time, actually
Because... well that's not something these stores really do? but at the same time... they are going against Steam
I believe it's a flat amount but set individually game by game
and people really don't feel like having 10 different launchers or stores installed, so they have to gain traction and new customers somehow
in general deals and giveaways and freebies and loyalty points all fall into the category of improving the odds you'll buy the next thing from them
Like an estimation of how much they'd get during that timeframe based on normal sales, but they get that immediately from Epic which can help out a lot
Yeah yeah I get it, it's all just steps to get you to stay on Epic more and more
If I recall there was a leak of how much some games got, and Subnautica got an order of magnitude more than anyone else
We don't have specific info as to how exaclty they are compensated, and it's possible that there are different deals depending on the dev
Last I heard it was per copy
They don't get the same money as if they sold them full price tho, that's almost for sure
But they clearly think it's worth it if they decided to join on the giveaway
Also a lot of times it's just before they release new DLC and/or a sequel so there is probably also that kind of consideration for them
meh, it does the job but it's one more launcher you need to keep open if you want games to start quickly
they would probably be losing more if they didn't do this anyway
since there really wouldn't be anything to draw more customers in or draw any attention, because why use Epic when Steam has it all and has been around for way longer?
yeah, 90% of Steam's value to me is network externalities / being the one thing that nearly all my games go through
Even with the freebies Steam is still king and I don't think that's gonna change anytime soon really
ngl i pretty much only use steam for gmod lol
Oh for sure, but also, they are currently the most serious competitor
what about GOG?
Now, if they could grow to the point that steam also has to do stuff like that everyone would win
I'm pretty sure GOG is much smaller
Steam got where it was by having Half-Life 2 as an exclusive, it makes sense Epic has a non-zero chance of repeating that
GOG's definitely a niche, even I don't use it despite being very aware of it
There's what else, GoG, Playstation, Xbox, Uplay, EA Play, Battle.net? I'm discounting the ones that are purely just launchers for one game, essentially
I guess so, GOG has cool stuff though, mostly the DRM free stuff, and the fact that, I think, 100% of the money goes to the devs
which is great
The value on game pass is sick
I've only bought a handful of games on GOG, most are giveaways
(thanks Ross Scott for making me buy Sin Gold on there)
Ah, Sin. That was a fun game
I've bought a few good old games
I bought a bunch at discounts and sales
I remember buying Witcher 1 for like, less than 5 bucks?
the one thing i hate about game pass is you cant like just pay xbox to have them switch your renewal date to a different day lol
I remember getting I think Control, Katana Zero and STALKER which are the ones I played the most
They also have MGS1 and MGS2!
Yeah I was pretty sure this wasn't the case.
Except when you buy Cdprojekt games I assume, since they are the same people.
Witcher 1 and Control both ended up being freebies on GOG and EGS at some point
But GOG is good, just not as big
this is why I sometimes prefer waiting, it's not great when you buy a game on sale only for it to be offered for free later
(that is, unless you intend to play it immediately)
It's especially nice for older games since they tend to get a compatibility pass
paying no money > paying a little bit of money
Even tho not always enough to make them working without some effort
GOG has a bunch of old games, I think it's their specialty
bunch of classics in there
GOG used to stand for "Good Old Games"
used to? I thought that was still what it meant
I don't think they use that name anymore
GOG has many games that are permanently free too, such as Tyrian. You can add them to your library anytime, they're mostly old classics
Officially at least
I think GOG is one of those brand names that was originally an acronym and then the long name faded out of existence so now it's just a name of letters
I've always been on the fence about whether to get FNV for GOG or Steam...
https://www.gog.com/en/game/greak_memories_of_azur is still a giveaway on their page (with the whole sign up for newletter spiel, but you can unsub immediately after getting game)
And it's a recent game, from last year
But yeah that pic is about... 2/3rs of my GOG list
oh dope
er 1/3rd actually
I've always seen stuff about ghostrunner and it seems interesting but never tried it
I think I got that free, somehow? Or something
ye, it was free last Christmas i believe
ANyway on that page right there... Beyond Good and Evil, Blood, Carmageddon, Dungeon Keepers are my big recommendations
And Giants: Citizen Kabuto is fucking hilarious
Oh man
I bought Beyond Good and Evil but never played it
It's literally sitting in my GOG library and never even installed it
From the game Giants Citizens Kabuto. Apparently grandpa has some issues saving his grandson Timmy. Where are the games with such informative cut scenes like this nowadays?
there was a sequel coming out or something, right?
It's one of my all time favorite games. I highly recommend it
you should play it, its one of my favs
no fair, im typing on mobile
It's been supposed to come out for the last... 10? 12? 14? Years
But yeah, if you want to play any new game right now, put BG&E on top of your list
And the soundtrack is fantastic
what is it about and how is the gameplay and all?
I literally know zero things about it
I don't think I've ever even watched a gameplay of it
aliens and photography

What chip said with some action adventure

Though I always played it in french since I believe that's the original audio?
But english's also fantastic
wait, i have the perfect image to explain it somewhere
i hope this explains everything
one might argue French is the OG language in older Ubisoft games, like XIII
Download Link: http://www.stormeffect.com/beyond/
Beyond Good and Evil was an all-format action-adventure title helmed by Michael Ancel which, due to poor sales, never saw a sequel. The soundtrack was composed by Christophe Heral and remains one of the most memorable features of a truly great game.
Beyond Good and Evil is © Ubisoft
And again, I cannot recommend the soundtrack highly enough
I like the game and the story and everything but the soundtrack just elevates it so much
Shauuuniiiiiii
Fuck, even just listening to that track makes me want to reinstall it
that's some pretty groovy shit
Not the whole soundtrack like that, mind you
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYpYlFvd4Is also some lovely little ones like this

the sequel's still in "early development" after it being like 5 years since the announcement trailer
it's never happening lol
And like 8 years or so after that supposed "leak"
I have the first one because ubi gave it out for free once
Now in 1080p
In-game screenshots http://imgur.com/a/UIa0v
Not even? There was this leak, then there was silence for years, then a cgi trailer (which is kinda spoilery so i won't post it), and that was 5 years ago with no real news
ah yes, the b r o w n aesthetic everything had in 2009 lol
And then the lead producer or something was one of those folk who got caught in that industry wave of kicking out abusive people
So who the fuck knows of the status, but it's still not been announced as cancelled
there was leaked early gameplay from after the cgi trailer and it seemed really ambitious
the scale of the game is probably why we will not see this game for a while
So the whole scale/ambition... yeah kinda like cyberpunk
That was such an ugly aesthetic. I'm so glad we're back to the more colorful, bouncier, and cheerier aesthetic for most games.
''wow, our game looks really good guys, I think people and fans will love it!''
''run it through the piss filter.''
''w..what?''
'' do it. ''
Dear god the fps
Resi5 looks so ugly oml
I think it looks great without the filter
I think this was a byproduct of vidya trying to emulate films and cinema too much, especially action games that tried to emulate action movies which have the exact same problem
I hate it when games self-sabotage like that in the name of "having a unique art style".
violent and gritty = desaturated to shit and or brown filter
A little bit of color tone can be good, but that is way too far
You gotta think about the color palette of the game textures more
Like it actually looks so good without the filter
I am curious what fps I would get in that. My cpu is worse but gpu is better.
lol it's a weird phenomenon
the fact that everything at that specific timeframe was brown
Color aside RE5 is awesome
for me, it was mgs4, mw2
Games really needed more color
this looks like the filter they put on the first few transformer films
which came out in... 2007
I read one explanation saying that it was a counter to being seen as too childish in the previous gen
...I don't get it
Hmm okay
I need to play through RE5 co-op again, super fun time
Fallout 3 also had the issue of everything being green. But that was the textures themselves
The 7th gen of consoles from 2006 were the first hd consoles, so perhaps that led to more video games trying to emulate movies
I'm glad RDR didn't try to do that. My favourite game from that generation.
God of War 4 and Ragnarok have some great vistas

I got the basic gray ones with my Switch and have received the neon red and blue ones, and man they are neon

I enjoyed my time with Resi 5
When played co-op I’d say I find it a bit more fun than RE4
!!!!!
i am replaying the aa triology again
HOLY CRAP I NEVER THOUGHT THIS SILLY LITTLE VIDEO WOULD GET 3 MILLION VIEWS??? I'M JUST SO HAPPY THAT I'VE INTRODUCED SO MANY PEOPLE TO THE ACE ATTORNEY SERIES. I'M GLAD I'VE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE Y'ALL LAUGH AND SMILE HONESTLY 🥺🥺❤️❤️

“Almost Christmas” means it wasn’t Christmas!
Merry Christmas (aiming handgun)
Ngl, that video reminded me of Gordon Ramsay
it is so weird its only 3 years old it was such an instant hit across the fandom it feels like a certified classic
perhaps more ridiculously, objection funk is also only three years old

Does Edgeworth not do the point
8 min
most characters do not do "the point"
:c why
Because Phoenix Wright copyrighted the point, duh
well because samey poses for everyone would be boring. and this is visual novel, you dont want boring, you're already askin the players to be okay with reading being 90% of your play mechanics. first aa put everything it had into makin each character distinct and larger than life with as little complex animations as possible. and it threaded that needle between not bein just still images like many vns but also saving as much time and resources on animations as possible (because it was made by tiny team in half a year) so well that it shaped the future of entire franchise
...or sure just go with tchers answer that's valid too
i assure you edgeworth's "you fuckin idiot dumbass i am about to end your entire career" finger wiggle is just as entertaining
Oh good

Is it bad that I kind of prefer the sprites over the uhhh hd versions
they have charm to them
guess you'd dislike the 3d versions too then

though i think that depends on whichever game you play
rtx on
dual destinies, much as i adore it despite its flaws, doesnt compare in terms of its animation to say, great ace attorney chronicles
except athena because athena is always perfect
i still need to watch the theater plays i know theyre subtitled on yt n ive heard pretty good things about them
Why is there a live action Ace Attorney
the fact gumshoe break dances in one of them is reason enough to watch them
because aa is in fact highly popular
Do Phoenix and Edgeworth make out at the end
My brain when they change every characters' names to the unidentifiable level when they make it in English :
.... well at least that's, marginally less of an issue in tgaa games?
at least i assume characters like natsume soseki remain the same given he's actual historical figure and all that
I think they kept most of the names if not all in tgaa
Because it would be fucking hilarious if it's 19th century Japan and the protagonist is super Japanese and then the name is fucking Whatever Wright
i still find it so funny they had to create herlock sholmes so doyle estate doesnt fuck with them but the soseki family just went ahead with "sure you can use our actual human being ancestor in your gay drama lawyer game. ye make him a suffering weirdo we dont care"
tgaa cast my adored
If they had waited they could have used actual Sherlock Holmes next year
tbf both Sholmes and Wilson are just straight up Holmes and Watson in Japanese version
i do wonder, does ||asa shinn-assassin pun still hold in japanese version? the british lady you pronounce guilty in first case back in japan, the exchange assassin in kazuma's place||
They do have the same wordplay, but it's slightly different due to language reasons
good good
i really adored that one it was really funny to me. for once you have actual names in an ace attorney game, either japanese or from sherlock holmes book canon, and then there's that name
i put it on same level as mister deid mann from investigation games
More specifically, it goes:
||Anne Satsha(JP : Annsassha), a wordplay for Assassin(JP : Annsatsusha)||
just, top peak
"Eat your hamburgers, Apollo, while we eat at the traditional, American kotatsu."
Yum
Ok Brock
This scene is such bullshit. Lawyers would raise a huge fuss if they didn't get all the information at the start of the trial, and that's one reason murder trials take very long
I like Ace Attorney because it's basically Court Soap Opera: The Visual Novel.
Fortunately the series at least very much always tries to state that the court system in general is fucked up in that world
Ace Attorney's justice system is a parody of the old Japanese system, which was rather unfair on defendents. Even after judicial reform in the 2000s, they still can hold suspects indefinitely, interrogate them without a lawyer present, and do not grant them the right to remain silent. They do this to compel a confession, in order to help prosecutors maintain the exceptionally high 99.8% conviction rate.
Yeah
Clearly the game designers took exception to this system and wanted to parody it, with the ludicrous addition that a trial may not last more than three days.
I have my priorities absolutely straight.
||and it absolutely hit me like a truck||

Fuck I need a new monitor so bad
Playing RDR2, and at night, the darkness is shown so poorly
Are there any SNES Everdrive-like devices that can play games that use special chips, like SMRPG and Star Fox
Well… the Everdrive itself can do that.
At least the fancy edition can, IIRC
You can either put it into a real SNES or an SNES clone like the Analogue Super NT
Worth noting that if you want a Super NT now is the time to get it since they’re doing their final manufacturing run now.
Mmm I see. I'll do more research tomorrow
The hint at the end, I have two ideas of who's returning Gogmazios or Ahtal ka.
