I'm trying to restore from a backup, but it's failing. It seems to map perfectly to this closed issue: https://github.com/immich-app/immich/issues/26522. it says fixed, but I'm still getting the exact same Error: Server health check failed, no admin exists. when trying to restore on v2.7.5.

Is there a fix, or am I out of luck using this backup?

I was able to go create a new DB dump on v2.7.5 and then successfully restore it.

Is there any hope for my dump from v2.6.3?

There should be. The dump on v2.6.2 is just a Postgres Dump as far as I know. Are you able to use pg_restore directly?

#

Try to create another Postgres DB container and do not connect it to Immich directly. Restore the dump from there and then connect it to Immich

Ok, I think this is on me. Does immich run the scheduled backup dumps even if no user has been created?

I am unsure. I think it should but the devs might be able to answer this

# dull pilot How do you have pictures if you don't have a user?

I don't. Kinda.

At some point I clearly borked my immich without realizing. I did not realize that it still creates daily dumps of the DB even if no admin has been created, and trying to restore those dumps obviously causes issues. The issue I linked made me think it was some sort of immich issue, so I didn't check much older backups as soon as I should've while troubleshooting.

Solved: user error - bad backups.
