#Changing default library location for stored media

Hello! New to Immich, a bit confused by the documentation. I would like to configure my saved/uploaded photos and videos to be saved in my attached external drive, however I’m not quite sure how to change the default library location. I already changed the path in the .env file, but that seems to only stop me from being able to connect to the GUI. Per this article https://docs.immich.app/guides/custom-locations/, I tried changing the upload location, however that just seems to prevent the container from running completely. What am I missing exactly?

In order to be able to effectively help you, we need you to provide clear information to show what the problem is. The exact details needed vary per case, but here is a list of things to consider:

  • Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
  • All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
  • Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.

  • Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l and df -h).
  • The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
