I have downloaded what I think is needed, but as soon as I started to attempt to do all this myself I instantly got overwhelmed. Is there any assistance someone can provide me for setting up start to finish? I always said I was tech savvy, but all this....nothing compares. I feel like a fish out of water. Now I did my best with trying to find the information for "If you have question regarding the setup of the app, please include this relevant information: Your docker-compose.yml / Your .env / Log" but even that seems to be pretty difficult for me. Sorry to be "that person". I feel silly for even asking for help 🙁

In order to be able to effectively help you, we need you to provide clear information to show what the problem is. The exact details needed vary per case, but here is a list of things to consider:
- Your docker-compose.yml and .env files.
- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
- All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
- Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.
- Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware).
- Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like
fdisk -landdf -h). - The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
- Any other information that you think might be relevant.
Please paste files and logs with proper code formatting, and especially avoid blurry screenshots.
Without the right information we can't work out what the problem is. Help us help you ;)
If this ticket can be closed you can use the /close command, and re-open it later if needed.
What kind of install are you doing... Could we have some more context please on what you want to get out of immich in order to help you?
I actually only went as far as downloading Docker. And then I got super dazed and confused. So literally need help with how to even just get Immich lol.
Ok, do you already use something like google photos?
Yes I do. I already downloaded everything I want via Takeout
Why do you specifically want to move away form Google Photos then?
Here is a basic guide of the things you need to do, condensed from https://docs.immich.app/overview/quick-start:
(note, I am assuming you are on windows, pls tell me if otherwise)
-
make a new folder where you will keep all of your immich related things
-
copy move the file that is downloaded from https://github.com/immich-app/immich/releases/latest/download/docker-compose.yml to this folder
-
do the same with this file: https://github.com/immich-app/immich/releases/latest/download/example.env
-
Open the
.envfile with an editor such as notepad put whatever you like afterDB_PASSWORD=(no special characters or spaces), nothing else needs changing. -
open a terminal in your immich folder and run
docker compose up -d -
open a browser and go to http://localhost:2283
If you already have your google takeout photos in a specific place and don't want to copy them to the upload location, ask for an explanation of external libraries
Furthermore, bear in mind that self-hosting is unlikley to be cheaper and "more convenient" that a cloud solution. The main reason people do it is for things like privacy concerns...
my honest suggestion is leave it. stay with Google photos.
if you can figure out how to setup, how are you going to ensure you are taking proper backups and know how to recover when something happen (and it will).
we are talking about the preservation of your memories here, and you can loose it all in one blink.
