So i recently got immich up and running. At first i ran it on a slow server but currently am running it on my Ubuntu desktop via a mounted SMB share.
My Problem is all of immich generateds thumbnails are showing up on my timeline.
Im a beginner so any help is really appreciated.

my photos are in /media/ssd/Fotos and i have configured an external library in the web GUI to /external.

Did i do something wrong?

You nested your upload location inside your external library. You can't do that. It will recursivley scan the upload location, which is why you are seeing thumbs show up

#

They need to be totally separate

Okay thanks, let me try rq.

#

I have now changed the upload location to /tmp (for testing), now it crashes and i get

microservices worker error: Error: Failed to read: "<UPLOAD_LOCATION>/encoded-video/.immich (/data/encoded-video/.immich) - Please see https://immich.app/docs/administration/system-integrity#folder-checks for more information.", stack: Error: Failed to read: "<UPLOAD_LOCATION>/encoded-video/.immich (/data/encoded-video/.immich) - Please see https://immich.app/docs/administration/system-integrity#folder-checks for more information."

You need to move the folders that immich created at the upload location to the new place. It's expecting to find the folders at /tmp (Or wherever you set the new place to)

jade folio

okay. is there any other way i can move together my upload location and library? Ideally, i would want to upload to the same folder my Photos are in right now

solemn wing
#

External libraries are the UPLOAD LOCATION are seperate concepts. You cannot upload into an external library currently

jade folio
#

Yes but is there a way i can make my external library internal? Im planning to move my immich back to the server as soon as thumbnail gen, metadata etc is finished. Then i would have my Files in the very same Server that immich is running on

solemn wing
#

There's no official way to move an external library to the internal right now.

#

The only real way is to upload all the assets from the external library folders into immich via the cli or immich-go

jade folio
#

okay got it

jade folio
#

would it be enough to separate them say i have /media/ssd/Fotos for the library and /media/ssd/immich for everything else?

solemn wing
#

That's fine. They just can't be nested within each other.

jade folio
#

perfect thank you

i have now moved the upload path and everything to /media/ssd/immich. I have scanned the library for changes but the thumbnails are still visible
