#Questions about file structure and multiple accounts

I've been lurking and looking at Immich for far too long... Now it's time to do something about it ๐Ÿ˜…

I intend to run it on TrueNAS Scale. In a container.

Right now when I upload images to my NAS, the folder structure is year/month/yyymmdd_timestamp.jpg
Can I do something similar with Immich? I understand that every user might get their own folders, and that my images and my wife's images might not end up in the same folder.

Also. Is it possible to let Plex see the photos and videos uploaded to Immich through the mobile app?
Right now we use Plex for watching photos and videos. And we might continue to use it for at least videos in the future.

And speaking of me and my wife. Is there an easy way to see each other's photos in Immich. That would be extremely handy when we're selecting photos for the yearly photobook.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Yes use the storage template adn you can define the folder structure in the file system.
  2. Just point plex at the library folder where images are stored and I would assume it would be able to loop through all the folders and pickup the photos / videos
  3. There's partner sharing where you can share your entire library with another user

@hollow wave followup question
I got it started, it works, everything is nice

Now I'm looking into importing my existing libraries to Immich.
Is there a way I can import some libraries just for me, and some that would be shared with my partner?

My wife is not that interested in my images from college. But she is interested in the images we have from our time together.

Will I have to create a "private" account that then shares the private images with my main account?
And possibly do the same for my wife, as she has images too that she'd like in Immich, which I might not be interested in

Unfortunately partner sharing currently is all or nothing. So yes you basically understand the concept right now. Better sharing is in the works for the future but yes if you only want to partially share, you will have to do some roundabout things

So, if A shares with B, and B shares with C, then C won't see A's images, right?

If so, that workaround would work for now

I "believe" so ๐Ÿ˜‚ you may have to do a little test to verify. But logically it should work like that

Awesome ๐Ÿ˜Ž
I'll give it a try ๐Ÿ™‚

Just make sure to have a good backup system in place ๐Ÿ™‚

Everything is running on TrueNAS, with 1:1 mirror, snapshots, and then off-location backups to backblaze

I do hosting as a side hustle.
I've learned to have proper backup policies ๐Ÿ˜„
