#Immich not detecting photo storage after moving everything to an encrypted external harddrive

I messed up. I was running low on storage on my Raspberry Pi SD card so I decided to move everything to an external drive. I didn't know that it would cause problems with the metadata. I've since read the wiki but I don't know and haven't found any ways to fix this problem. I tried moving everything back to the SD card but it still didn't fix the issue. I think because the drive was encrypted using veracrypt, it may have not had permission to acces? I tried a bunch of things like specifying the environmental variables to point to the mounted drive, giving root access to portainer which was probably bad, changing the docker compose as i was running an old version of Immich from June 2024 i hadn't updated, among other things that I can't remember now. I moved things mostly back to the way they were with default immich installation. I can run immich mostly fine though the immich-microservices container seems to have disappeared recently (i happen to have a log of it from 16th february where i first started having these issues, the rest of the logs are from today).

Can you clarify what behaviour you're seeing exactly?

Nothing shows up. My whole photo and video library is invisible to immich. I've tried adding an external library path to mnt/veracrypt/volumes too but I get an error saying "path validation failed". I'm not sure how to fix this problem. While all the data is intact in the volumes, the images and videos are fragmented within hundreds of folders and I don't know if they contain the meta data like a normal Google takeout upload

This means the folder/volume is not mounted correctly

And you did not apply the breaking changes for that version

Hmm, seems more to me like the database was lost

#

@split scroll did it prompt you to create a new user?

I assume you have multiple instances running

any more support?

If "immich can't see your pictures" and it prompted you to make a new user then that means the database was completely reset and you need to restore from backup
