#Renaming user and storage label

When I first setup Immich I created the first user with the wrong name. I have since added all my media and now I can see I can rename the user name and storage label, which I have done and kicked off the migration.

However, after completing I noticed the old directory has media that hasn't been migrated to the new directory. There is about 400 media files under /library/firstuser that don't appear in the new /library/user dir.

I have run the migration multiple times but nothing else happens. I'm wondering why this has happened and what to do about it? Is it a bug? Is it fixable? Do I need to trash Immich and start from scratch?

I found this in the docker compose logs

#

that selected filename is one of the files not moved

Could you try find /path/to/lib -name IMG-20250417-WA0000.jpg

honest girder
#

Yeah, I did that out of curiosity when I grabbed the screenshot. It is in the old storage location and wasn't moved

#

So it appears for example in /library/firstuser/blah.../ instead of /library/newuser/blah.../

nimble falcon
#

yes but also no

#

Does this image also exist? I assume it does

#

I think the duplicates are in upload and library, not library and newlibrary

honest girder
#

ahhh interesting. There are about 243 files in upload. Different filenames, but potentially same checksums like you're thinking

#

what gets put in upload?

#

why would it not be in the library?

nimble falcon
#

failed uploads didn't used to get cleared, they might be leftover

#

from the timestamp it appears to be a recent image though 🤔

#

Unless that's just when you did the migration?

i haven't had this immich setup for long, maybe a few weeks I think

#

I did the user name rename and storage label change yesterday

silent sierra
#

Are any of the database entries actually referencing files in upload/?

silent sierra
#

Which would get rejected, and then that file in upload/ is cleaned up

nimble falcon
honest girder

There is no immich/upload directory there. It is located in immich/library/upload and library is in immich/library/library

#

immich/library is the bind mount root

nimble falcon
#

ah right

#

The name confusion strikes again

hehehe

thankyou for helping me btw. Very much appreciated 🙂
