#Best Transcoding settings

Hi, I want to understand the best transcoding settings for my use case.

Both my wife and I have iPhones, and videos are recorded 99% of the time from our phones. Right now I see that most videos are .mov which are all being transcoded.

But since we are also only using our phones to view these videos, is transcoding really necessary? We also have a large volume of videos and I’m concerned the transcoded videos take up too much space.

What’s my best option here for transcode settings?

If you only view the videos on your iPhones, then transcoding isn't really necessary. It would still help with bandwidth, though - the bitrate of those videos is likely to be very high so streaming the original can lead to buffering

Is there a way to optimize bitrate and space ??

You can use HEVC, adjust the CRF and set a slow preset to make more optimized videos

It makes a pretty drastic difference in space usage compared to default settings

For example
Transcode videos not in accepted format or higher than max bitrate.
If I set accepted video codec to include HEVC
and amend the max bitrate to 3600k
Will that be optimal?
