ive just set this up and thought there was some sh script to run so the app runs.

ive never used docker so i have no idea how it exactly works

You should go read up on how docker works then

oh there certainly is commands you can use to run docker containers. But immich isn't really a docker guide, it's more an application that uses docker. So while there is some overlap, having a complete guide on docker would seem like A LOT

well, i just expected something like octoprint (3d printer software) where you have to expicitly start the program

that's what docker compose up -d does. Then again, you really shouldn't be running commands on your server without knowing what they do
