#Trouble opening a port

using kde debian, got immich working in Firefox with the address 153.90.76.209:2283. When I entered the mobile app and tried to connect, it didn't work, so I tried to make sure port 2283 was open. ss -lntu says [::]:2283 is listening, but ls | nc -l -p 2283 returns Can't grab 0.0.0.0:2283 with bind

You probably have something else running on 2283.

Step 1: list the process that is listening on 2283

knotty torrent
runic arrow
#

That's uh... strange

#

did you sudo it?

knotty torrent
hollow nest
#

can you post the screenshot of the mobile app where you put in the server url?

knotty torrent
#

Tried replacing "api" with my api key, tried removing it, tried removing "http://"

hollow nest
#

looks like you are not connecting to wifi

coral girder
#

isn't that a public IP address? Are you trying to get immich to work remotely? Perhaps you have an upstream WAF?

hollow nest
#

FWIW what you are doing is not recommended, security wise

#

looks into reverse proxy to properly setup system to access Immich from outside of your network

coral girder
hollow nest
#

The university probably blocks that port ๐Ÿ˜„

#

but he can access over Firefox ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

#

anyway tailscale is probably the easiest and safest in this case

knotty torrent
#

How am I supposed to tell which IP addresses are which? What is tailscale?

#

The documentation for Immich is severely lacking

hollow nest
#

those aren't Immich information

#

those are networking knowledge that you will need to search and read on your own

knotty torrent
#

Not everybody is a programmer

#

why would they expect people to know that

hollow nest
#

because hosting Immich needs some knowledge of sysadmin, networking to properly run it without the risk of destroying your data ๐Ÿ™‚

#

as well as hosting other services

knotty torrent
#

I will switch back to Google Photos and continue recommending it to others instead, I guess ๐Ÿ‘

#

I was under the impression that immich was meant to be possible for regular people to use

hollow nest
#

you will need to understand how to perform backup, system config...etc

#

it is not a tool for everyday folks yet

#

unless you are willing to learn ๐Ÿ™‚

knotty torrent
#

I have a few words to say to those assholes on the internet recommending it, then. I am not using your app if it requires me to take a course in software engineering

hollow nest
knotty torrent
#

doesn't make them less of a lying asshole

hollow nest
#

equires me to take a course in software engineering
not true though, you can learn this by reading information on the internet

knotty torrent
#

clearly not

hollow nest
#

have you tried?

knotty torrent
#

none of the app's documentation or any forum information suggested anything about the problem.

knotty torrent
#

nah, google photos is clearly the best choice for 99% of people

hollow nest
#

your milegage might varies ๐Ÿ˜„

knotty torrent
#

Almost nobody is going to learn software engineering to spite Google

#

How many users does this program have, 30?

hollow nest
#

more than that ๐Ÿ˜„

#

more than 50,000 If I have to guess since we don't track users, we don't have the exact number. But from the reports of downloads...etc
