When will it be possible to backup iOS photos like for like without stripping metadata?
I wonder if it’s even possible
I’m not finding any examples of it being done, but I’m also not a developer
Can you elaborate?
If I understood it right, it’s about saving the depth data, so you can download the photo later and change the subject
Ah I’ve never tested this. If this comes to this, seems like we are at mercy of Apple of which file information they expose when we get the get the file from the system
As they are not letting you access the original file directly
Yeah from what I’ve found, you can maybe save the depth data, but I also couldn’t find a service that can save the portrait mode depth data and can download it
I think only iCloud can do it, since Google photos can’t
yeah, seems to be designed specifically to be handled for Apple's related app
Yeah not too surprised tbh. It is apple after all
I would like to clarify that photosync is able to backup with full metadata including the Live Photos..
Google photos cannot though
So we have hope! 😄 Do you know the actual metadata that is taken out?
I believe that it's this issue... https://github.com/immich-app/immich/issues/5818
