#Installed Immich on Synology... Performance?

Hi all! Building out my HomeLab... finally got a NAS (DS224+) and not loving Synology Photos... from what I've read of Immich it was exactly what I needed, so I installed it. Up and running, no problems. After I linked my external storage and began the scan (approx 2k images on that volume currently, so nothing HUGE but it's noteworthy.

I expected Immich to be slow during this time of indexing... but not only is it practically unusable (After opening it, I have about 1 minute before the server shows as "disconnected" and it requires me to refresh) but my entire Synology interface is sooo slow and unreliable. I did just order some more compatible RAM (still have the 2GB onboard and upgrading it with a 16gb chip that works according to reddit lol) I've not changed any settings other than turned off the video encoding job (figured we could wait until later for that one).

RM is showing anywhere from 50-65% CPU and 55-70% Memory utilized (hopefully Friday we see that one drop significantly.

Any tips or settings I should adjust in Container Manager or DSM to have better performance? Scares me that it is impacting the entire system.

I think it would be best to have a separate machine to run other services and synology is just to use as a NAS

If you’re on 2gb, then I’m impressed it runs at all

#

The higher RAM will make a huge difference

Honestly, I found using Immich on 2gb was fine

Obviously not a free solution to your issue, but might be worth considering.

ah, I see you already said you will do that haha
