#How to preserve iCloud albums when migrating to Immich?

I'm planning on migrating my photos from iCloud to Immich. Since I have quite a lot of photos and spent time on putting them into fitting albums, how do I preserve the albums?

Syncing the photos with the iOS Immich app doesn't create albums for them, even when you explicitly chose the albums it should sync.

Is there a known way to get my iCloud library on Immich (including albums) or should I create a feature request to add an option to iOS photo sync, which creates the synced album in Immich?

Hey - haven't used it personally, but I believe that with IcloudPD you can download all your icloud photos and then uploade them back with the immich CLI.

After that use the CLI

I had a look on it now and sadly it's not a solution:

  • Doesn't download the edited version of the photo. I got tons of old photo scans which are cropped by hand (in Google Photo Scanner). The downloaded version by iCloudPd now only shows the uncropped versions. Other photos with filters and adjustments are in their original version as well
  • Doesn't download from nested albums/folders. As I got tons of albums, I needed to put them into folders by years. It doesn't download these albums at all.
  • Even though I configured it to download from all libraries, it only downloads from my personal one. That results in half of my photos missing.
