As a workaround, I created a new album and copied all the images to it, but unfortunately they all have today's date
Ignore the green tint, that is some issue with my screen recorder

I think it is a little weird to have recents selected and other albums as well. I believe recents is all your photos. Does it change anything if you unselect that one?

Although here the images werent getting picked up. was showing only 93 images
after reinstalling, the correct 3k+ images get counted
but that is only util the rename happens
if i start the backup before the rename, 3k+ images
if i start after the rename, less than 1k images

That won't solve this issue tho. I was going to use ftp to sync existing pics. But all future pics won't get synced
