So, i was never consciously aware of this, but i just watched a video which explains the weak forms and the schwa sound.

https://youtu.be/EaXYas58_kc

quite interesting, and it might explain why i always feel like people IRL understand my English way less than when I'm chatting with people in a voice chat.

were you aware of weak forms? do you use them?

Many of the commonest words of English are pronounced in a special reduced way, by Brits, Americans & others. Even in careful, formal speech. Even by famous, admired speakers.

I was already aware of weak forms (which is weird, given I learnt english naturally) but I have always noticed that many words take two forms, and one of them is always 🌈 schwa 🌈
When I'm thinking about it consciously I never know which to use, though

The schwa sound is the most common vowel in English

mossy ferry
#

yea, but its not taught well when learning as a second language

patent depot
#

oh no, not at all

#

It's not a phonetic language so it's wild to try and work out a word from its written form

#

Re weak forms, I think that the clear example you hear a lot is "What do you want to do?"

#

"whaddaya wanna DO"

whaddayawannado

hehe, indeed

#

but even in that the last "do" is very clearly voices where the first one is a little D sound
