Are you using photoshop? For your final cleanup I always recommend making a selection of the whitespace, go to the top menu Selection -> Modify -> Expand 1px, and delete. Will get rid of that white single pixel outline

"IOS <emotion> emoji, <doing action>, 3D render with light shading"

For the crying emojis in particular I used
"IOS sad emoji, with eyes closed and tears rolling down cheeks, cute style, 3D render with light shading"

I've also seen success with "3D render, smooth shading"

smooth shading is probably what it was. I tried replacing "specular" with "diffuse" and it didn't do much. I am not a big enough 3D artist to know terms for different material types I guess.
