it seems your app doesn't work on all videos, especially those without provided captions

Interesting, can you send me the youtube URL for that video? Sometimes when the videos are very long it does get a bit confused so I'll definitely take a look into this!

This server is a bit strict with URLs. Here's the video ID: youtu. be / UMskTp0zP3Y

Hmm weird, it might be an issue with sometimes it working and sometimes not (since its Generate AI and it creates novel content every time)

I just created a summary here: In Dr. David Jeremiah’s message “The ‘Emptiness’ of Easter”, he discusses the powerful symbolism of emptiness found throughout the Easter story. He explains that the empty tomb of Jesus’ resurrection is a reminder of the hope and freedom that comes with faith in God. He encourages viewers to overcome fear and other looming giants in their lives by understanding the power of the empty tomb. He also shares how the empty tomb is a symbol of the emptiness of our own lives, and how we can find fulfillment when we surrender our lives to God. Dr. Jeremiah begins his message by pointing out that Jesus’ body was not broken when he was taken down from the cross. He explains that this was significant as it was a fulfillment of a prophecy from Psalm 34:20, which states that not one of Jesus’ bones would be broken. He then moves on to discuss the symbolism of the empty tomb. He explains that the empty tomb is a reminder of the hope and freedom that comes with faith in God. He shares how Jesus’ resurrection was a sign of God’s power and love, and how it is a reminder that death is not the end. He also encourages viewers to overcome fear and other looming giants in their lives by understanding the power of the empty tomb. Dr. Jeremiah then goes on to discuss how the empty tomb is a symbol of the emptiness of our own lives. He explains that when we surrender our lives to God, we can find fulfillment and contentment. He encourages viewers to find hope in the empty tomb and to trust in God’s promises. He ends his message by sharing one last word of encouragement, reminding viewers that God is always with them and that they can find hope and freedom in Him. In his message “The ‘Emptiness’ of Easter”, Dr. David Jeremiah encourages viewers to find hope in the empty tomb of Jesus’ resurrection. He explains how the empty tomb is a reminder of the hope and freedom that comes with faith in God. Which seems a bit more accurate, what do you think?

That issue with {yt_title} and {yt_description} is very interesting, cause those are variables I'm passing on my end to ChatGPT, and for some reason they get generated in the response back capybarathink

Using other content from the same channel it returns different as well: youtu. be / iWLFWrBh4Qs

Very weird, I think it's getting confused by the URLs for some reason

I tried the same video just now -

Slaying the Giant of Anger | DR. David Jeremiah | Ephesians 4:25-32 In this video, Dr. David Jeremiah examines the issue of anger and how it can quickly become a problem even among Christians. He takes a look at the teachings of the apostle Paul, who offers tools to help believers deal with this dangerous emotion. He begins by discussing how to reverse the effects of anger, and then moves on to his main message, “Slaying the Giant of Anger”. He uses the scriptures from Ephesians 4:25-32 to explain how to overcome fear and other giants in our lives. He also provides Giant Slayer Scripture Cards to help viewers apply the teachings to their own lives. He encourages viewers to learn what the Bible says, what it means, and how it applies to them. Dr. Jeremiah also provides free resources and study resources to help viewers better understand the message. He also encourages viewers to support his ministry by donating. Finally, he provides links to his social media and other ways to watch and listen to his teachings. Overall, this video provides valuable advice for Christians on how to deal with anger and how to apply biblical teachings to their lives.

And it seems like a more normal summary which is so weird that on your end you are getting different output.

#

This is definitely something I can look into though, thank you so much for the feedback, it's always greatly appreciated! 😄 @knotty tide

"Giant Slayer Scripture Cards" 😮

#

Yes, there can be issues with the shortened compared to regular youtube URLs

#

it's just that the original URL for this project was gone???

zenith zinc
#

What do you mean by original URL, do you mean the original discord post above? I accidentally reposted so deleted this posting lol

#

**For those who stumble on this post (I'm adding back the original content): **

Here is information about the app that was previously deleted:

YouTube is overflowing with content making it difficult to always keep up to date with all the videos we need to watch. In light of this, I decided to create YTRecap (https://ytrecap.org), a simple app that summarizes any YouTube video, allowing you to stay informed without spending hours watching! 🚀

By using closed captions and passing them to the language model provided by OpenAI, YTRecap can extract key information from videos and present it in a concise, digestible format.

For more information about YTRecap, see below 😁

PLEASE dallestar the repo above if you enjoy the project! (they are greatly appreciated)

all reactions are appreciated :)

⚠️ If you're a developer and would like to help, feel free to open a PR/and or reach out- I'm only a college student so would love to collaborate!

oh I see, have you noticed it sometimes breaks on shorthand notation?

knotty tide
#

And even with regular URLs, there is still an issue with the results

#

Yes it does

zenith zinc
#

So for the shorthand URLs that fail, do you happen to know why they might be failing. Is it just summarizing a completely different video? (Maybe it is summarizing based on the wrong video tag since we parse that wrong for shorthand notation)

knotty tide
#

Yes

zenith zinc
#

As for the long URLs I am not quite sure why they would be breaking capybarathink

knotty tide
#

And even for long URLs too

zenith zinc
#

Which ones in particular

#

Just any from that youtube channel you were sending prior?

knotty tide
#

video IDs are tWh83KveCYI and rTdxcI4HN6Y from a Filipino broadcasting entity

zenith zinc
#

hmm interesting I see, I've noticed the implementation does not work on YT Shorts, so maybe livestreamed content is something to look into too, as well as ensuring the youtube shorthand notation URLs get parsed correctly.

#

thank you!

knotty tide
#

Just tell me if these two videos are summarized perfectly,as one of them didn't work as expected.

zenith zinc
#

They are still broken on my end too. I also noticed those videos are definitely broken for the summaries, since the videos are very long (i.e, were not able to pass all the closed captions to the API) and the descriptions are a bit vague its essentially just making up nonsense (which is what GPT tends to do if it doesnt know, rather than saying "We can't provide an accurate summary" which isnt the best UI for users lol)

knotty tide
#

@zenith zinc Good development on your app. Now it should recognize, at least, certain videos, like a YouTube Music item.

knotty tide
#

@zenith zinc why does this happen to some livestreams?

broken jasper
#

Hmm, completly wrong 😅

broken jasper
#

I also tried other videos, and those worked way better. Whats the problem with it sometimes?

knotty tide
#

@broken jasper The app parses video channel name, descriptions and titles among others but not subtitles

So the API could generate inaccurate material if the description is not complete.

For example: (foreign language)
https:// youtu .be/ g3L8X_V8nx4

The video is a performance of a traditional folk song titled "[redacted]" by Klaus JB, with music composed by Franz Dorfer. The song tells the story of a man who longs to return to his homeland, but is unable to do so due to various obstacles. The performance is accompanied by acoustic instruments, including guitar and accordion. The video is shot in a rustic outdoor setting, with the performers dressed in traditional clothing. The description of the video notes that these types of old songs are no longer popular in modern times, but the performance serves as a reminder of their cultural significance.
