So I like longer roleplay scenarios, and they sometimes end up with me unable to progress. Even when I say what I am waiting for, the bot, even recently reprompted with a summary so it knows its instructions, the characters, and the plot ...

We just circle. And circle. Around something like this:

You reveal: [Understood. Your character will continue to act like a typical hawk familiar, following Eric and observing the surroundings. The wizard's words have been heard, and Eric is ready to face the challenges of the path of magic. Let's continue our journey and see what other adventures and obstacles await us in the castle and beyond.]

#

I've tried bunches of ways to get past this.

Then I remember that sometimes, the bot offers a list of choices:

I reveal: [What happens next?

A) Does Eric do what the wizard directs?
B) Does Eric discuss with this other wizard what specifically Eric is hoping to learn from this wizard, considering that Eric already knows a great deal of magic?
C) Does something happen that may distract or disrupt the two wizards before they can reach the location this other wizard is leading us to?]

And that worked! At least somewhat. I got given an expanded list of choices back!

#

You reveal: [A) Eric follows the wizard's directions, eager to learn what he can from the powerful wizard.
B) Eric does discuss his goals with the wizard, and the two of them have a conversation about what Eric hopes to learn and what the wizard is willing to teach.
C) As the two wizards continue their journey, they encounter a magical barrier that blocks their path. The wizard is unable to break through the barrier, and Eric must use his magic to find a way around it, so that the two of them can continue their journey and reach their destination.]

I reveal: [Oh wow! I pick B please, I want to learn more about Eric and his goals. Please continue this choice, with detail.]

And it works. We're no longer stuck, sharing a story together, not all my choices, or the bot's 😛

it can help to tell it not to break the fourth wall and to use present tense

I meant if a story gets stuck in a loop of just talking about the next part without ever writing it
