thanks for answering, that definitely can get people motivated to be extra creative with a single prompt use
Now that’s a beautiful hack, if I’ve ever seen one. Brilliant.
I'm sure the answer is no but are we allowed to turn on monetization for our youtube videos featuring dalle2 generations? Got some slick animations on the way here but I don't want to break any rules 😉
Might be a silly question but I just want to double check, would non-commercial use limit friends of mine using generations as profile picture on say Discord? What about twitch? No, right, as the latter would be commercial?
As long as you're not selling the generation to your friend, you're fine.
In the artists on-boarding call, they said that "using a dall-e 2 generation as album art for your EP, which you sell" would be acceptable use; so I think you're in the clear.
Mostly was just concerned about say twitch for example if they are a partner, etc. Thanks for the info!
Wasn't sure if Generated by Dall-e in the corner would make it okay, but if it's okay regardless I guess it doesn't matter. Just wanted to be 100% sure either way
This particular error message was a bug, it's been fixed.
hi! I have a question about the policy of not showing faces and photorealistic humans, but i have an image that i dont know if its ok to post, can i send it to som mod?
I've got the same question as above but with initial faces on inpaintings. Would be great to have an answer😀 I know it is sensitive for cases like creating photos of people on scenes they would not like, but we already can't upload photos of people without their permission.. so maybe there is a margin of permission for images of oneself, or people that permitted it.
a couple of my friends were just invited to try DALL-E, but they haven't received the invite to this discord yet, do they have to ask for it?
did they not get my companion email? we've been including the discord invite link in my companion email called "Your DALL·E Invite" for a while now!
hi! our current request is that if there are any doubts, that you not post it -- just because we don't have bandwidth to review every image.
that said! we're analyzing data right now to figure out whether / when it'd be ok to lift that restriction, so please stay tuned!
What I learned was, if there are enough features to recognize someone, then don't share it
Grate! Thanks!
hi! i cannot access my account
Is this fine for EPs produced by record labels the artist has signed with, where the artist has used DALL-E to create their own album cover?
Where and what kind of attribution is needed?
It sounds like this may be evolving, could you please verify? See above message
Hey, any tips for using the edit tool? so far it just showed the same picture multiple times and didn't even consider the text
I mean, I'm just repeating what I remember from the briefing call. I'm pretty sure that they said that was fine, because you're not selling the art, you're selling the music.
Edit tool is for Inpainting, so you have to erase out areas of the image used that you want it to regenerate based on the prompt you use. Hopefully that makes sense haha
I did it, for some reason it doesn't actually change much
I tried to use a coca cola and delete all the background and add a background or put it in a supermarket shelf, and it just showed me the OG picture
sometimes if you dont erase enough of the background it'll still keep the bg since it is starting off from those pixels to continue the image if that makes sense... so try either erasing too muhc or going on photoshop or similar image editing tool in order to have an easier way of making what you want transparent instead of relying on dalle's circle eraser
Is there a certain keyword or prompt that will produce a full body illustration of a person? I’m trying to create some fashion illustrations and it is only producing pictures cropped to the neck and knees.
Heads Cut Off! This happens to a good 80% of my images. Please fix this OpenAI. I'm begging you!
well you can specify types of shots so i would try using "longshot"
I tried that today chibberwocky. I finally typed show full body with room above and below the person. That almost worked.
I still got the head cut off per usual but it did show a forehead all the way down to the ankles.
Yeah I tried full body and it didn’t really like that either. I did try using mid shot and other film terms and it works some of the time but not consistently
pretty much all the pictures i'm creating are this haha
exact same problem I am having on a daily basis. I think the DALLE bot is a little stubborn. 🙂
I am recording all my prompts that cut off heads to submit to support. There will be hundreds. I hope they don't get upset with me but as an artist I find heads important!
My friend has been giving me a few prompts to try out, and several were surrounding "football mascot". And it occurred to me, as an american living in the UK, how come Dall-e was able to successfully output 'soccer' mascots and not even think about 'american football' ?
Hi ! I really struggle to represent two characters interacting with each others on different plans.
Here's two exemples :
-
A huge flying monster in its nest on top of a mountain watching a guy climbing the mountain
-
an underwater picture of a submarine illuminating a sea monster below.
I've already tried to switch the subjects or add spacial informations but the results are often disappointings.
Either it mixes the two subjects or one of the two subjects simply disappears.
Do you have any advices for me so I can write better prompts ? Thank you !
try describing the monster and call it a seperate human hope that helps for the first one
Thanks for your help, it's a bit better but still not quite convincing, I'll continue to search and share if I find good prompts 🌻
Hi! Any tips to get a really decent Disney cartoon or '90s anime style? The type of stuff I get looks like it was either drawn by a (really talented) 12 year old, or the type of 'flat' anime artwork you'd expect to see on Deviant Art.
I posted this in Tips & Tricks yesterday, but you just have to define their spatial position. For example, “Mountain scene: In the foreground a huge monster with wings lays in it’s nest, in the background a guy climbs towards it.”
You can also do: in the top corner/bottom corner etc., blank versus blank (which will usually create a diptych), primary subject/secondary subject/tertiary subject.
My solution to this is Inpainting/the edit function. Take the image, edit it in an image editing program where you just scale down the generated image where there is space at the top for the rest of the form if it was there. Then put it back into dalle in edit, erase the areas you want it to fill in to expand the canvas essentially, and use the same prompt
That’s how I make it do different aspect ratios or add parts that seem cut off
The reason this happens is because I believe t model can only be trained on and generate square images, so they had to square centre crop every image in the dataset for it to work, hence parts being cut off cuz it’s learning based on a dataset wirh cut off images
That’s a great explanation. Thanks
Hi I thought I should mention I never got that email, should I have?
me too
What the heck? I'm past my 24 hrs usage, it let me use it once, now tells me to come back in two hours! Have they changed the way the 24 hr system works? 🤨 Thanks.
It's a rolling 24 hour window – each time you submit it checks how many requests you've made in the 24 hours before that request. So more request requests will become available once previous requests fall outside of that 24 hour window.
Does anyone know how I could tell the AI to make flying jellyfish by any chance? Whatever I try always ends up with them still in the water or washed up on a beach. Thanks ^^!
When I want something unrealistic as an image, I say “high quality artwork of flying jellyfish, as a photograph”. Doesn’t always work.
I think @south fox came up with that trick
Alright! Thank you! Will give it a shot!
Anytime 🙂
Thank you for your help, all ^^! Getting closer to what I am after!
Has it been publicised where the data for DALL-E 2 was sourced? It would be very interesting to know and could help with prompt engineering
What is your relationship with the Dall-e mini project? How did they get the code?
Code itself is relatively easy to reproduce so long as the paper explains the architecture (e.g., Lucidrains's implementation: https://github.com/lucidrains/dalle2-pytorch). What really matters is the training data, which differs from both projects
In this situation just use photoshop and expand the canvas. Then you can edit the image to allow Dall-E to finish it. It works quite well.
Thanks I’ll try it out, do you just keep the prompt the same?
yeah, although you can get more specific with certain parts of the image if you need to
Is there a way to make pixel art come out with more pixels, like if I input 'High resolution detailed pixel art of a space ship' it's around 64x64 but can it go higher?
try adding a resolution like "256x256"
Is there any degree to which DALL-E generations get input from your previous prompts? I assumed not, but got a couple similar/repeat patterns that I was surprised by.
(e.g. if you ask for something in a particular style many times, will it be more likely to make something in that style in the future? I would be surprised if the answer is yes but don't know for sure)
Is there a way to upload an image an "style transfer" , re imagine the uploaded image combined with a prompt ?
Like upload a selfie and be like "Restyle this image in the style of Dali"
I don't think you can add a prompt to a variation at this time. There are other tools online which do style transfer if you're curious.
yeah been playing with this but it's really something i would like to see Dalle do ^^
It does work in some sense with the edit and a prompt like "the original image in the style of ...."
Would people be willing to wait a minute per generation if you got 100 per day instead of 50?
I’m okay with the limit. Limited right now and I’m extremely happy with generation speeds
Another reason why the product is so amazing to me
I’m also OK with it right now
nah rather this speed ; allows for a focussed session
But it’s an idea I’ve seen floated around by other users before
sure, but doesn't that change the dynamic from instead being a UX issue to then being a cost issue (for OpenAI)
and im glad with this restriction or i would never stop
'cause sure, users may have more access but then OpenAI will be paying for even more generations.
makes me think more of what i do before i press enter
I’d be curious to know how many users there are actually running into the 50 limit
Or what percentage even still use Dalle daily
Didn’t yesterday but I did today, since I’m a new member I’ve been showing it to friends and family and letting them play with it
I've never hit it, but I have access to so many different tools
so my use case is very different.
Also let’s move to #openai-chatter just so this doesn’t get too cluttered
i am almost daily against that limit
It does work in some sense with the edit
So, I have a dumb question - how do you do the thing where you upload an image smaller with transparency all around it and get DALL-E to fill in the blank space, essentially extending the image to show a wider perspective on the subject?
The way I've done it - load the image into an app that lets you change the canvas size. Position the image using the other apps canvas size as the center
Adjust dimensions keeping the same square ratio. I think I e done it at 250% before and it worked well
Then save it, and try it in DALLE. You may need to resize the image if got too big.
Then you can in paint it there if you don't want to mess setting a transparent layer/background
Has anyone had success generating frames from Dalle2?
Like if i were to put 5 frames of an animation, and ask dalle2 to finish it
mixed
like it probably went kinda half way? currently trying to figure out a way to do so
IIRC they stayed on theme but weren't logical next frames
Like if you had five frames of someone riding a horse it would give a sixth frame of someone riding a horse, just not something that followed in sequence
what if you were to insert (on-model) in the prompt?
thanks, going to try that now, so save it as a png or something with an alpha and then upload it and just hit "variations"?
yes.
Would anyone know how I can get Dall-E to generate two different art styles in the same image? I have tried “A cartoon styled dog standing in the real world.” And, “A dog standing in a forest. The dog is cartoon while the forest is a high definition photograph.” But either way it turns out all in the style of cartoons. Thanks ^^!
Hey, here is one idea.
realistic photograph of a beautiful forest with a double exposure matte animated disney cartoon dog standing in the middle
@dull summit
Try "in the foreground: blablabla ; in the background :blablabla "
Check the tips and tricks channel
Ohhh nice! Thank you ^^
Does Dalle have acces to the internet to look for more context to our questions?
If dalle is trained like other generative tools then I would assume no. It is possible OAI is training newer generations of the model.
They’ve stated before that the version that we’re using is locked in time. It’s not actively learning.
Thanks! I was thinking... What if just the machine learning bit would be locked, but it would still be able to use internet as a resource for simpeler search tasks. But not. Thanks for enlightening me
Hey! Someone mentioned to me that it’s possible to introduce or invite someone to get started with dall-e?
If any Dalle engineers are around: #❌┃tips-n-tricks message
I've a question about sending full RGBA data for inpainting rather than what seems to be currently sent - 0,0,0,0 for all transparent areas. The FE's canvas editor seems to be stripping the full values (i.e., 255,0,0,0 would be fully-transparent red) from the image on upload (0,0,0,0). Could Dalle make use of full RGBA data so that is could do editing rather than replacing? Am I right in understanding that the original image, or the full-RGBA values, are not being used?
I am seeing many influencers doing this with images of themselves.. I’ll assume it is okay?🧐
No, there’s not really a good way for Dalle to incorporate this information. Certainly if it did do this it would also make sense to allow users to provide reference images, which is a feature I have to assume researchers are thinking about (as it would provide far better controls over content, especially across multiple images)
I was wrong! They actually did it! What a strange decision
sorry, did what? 🙂
Apparently pushed the DALL-E mini creator to find a new name
ahh. is there an article about it?
Nothing yet, I don't think
Someone recommended I try feeding these images back in with blank whitespace around them, and asking it to fill that in. Sad and inconvenient to have to use a second render for that, but it seems like a workaround.
I was finding good luck with “3d Disney princess”
in a recently daily theme post someone posted dogs in the style of cowboy bebop which worked really well
How can I download the dalle mobile application for IOS?
Not able to find it on the app store!
There isn’t one ?
There isn't but you can use it on mobile in a web browser
with android you can added it to the homescreen and it makes a pretty good app
Is it possible for users to change their name on Dalle-E?
I really don’t think it’s that strange a decision for Dalle-2 to sue Dalle-mini (if that’s what’s happening). For a second, try to perceive this from a PR standpoint instead of from a research semantics standpoint.
There are any number of reasons the court of public opinion could turn against Dall-e: claims that it’ll flood the web with cheap low-effort art, that it’ll render photo evidence un-useable, or that it’ll put millions of artists out of work.
It’s a delicate situation. They 100% need the public to side with them, as they intend to lobby for new copyright legislation re: ai-generated images.
Any threat to their public image will be taken extremely seriously. Dall-e mini is a threat to their public image (sub-par quality & no content filters). Hence, the legal suit (if that’s what’s happening, I haven’t confirmed for myself).
Fair enough. I'm not super interested in speculating on reasons, I'm interested in hearing OpenAI's justification themselves.
Tbh I was kind of hoping it would happen
DallE is too cool a name to have to change for the real one
Because the other option would be to change DallE2 ‘s name on public release
Anyone know how to add a 1980s airbrush illustration style to a prompt? So far DALL-E has not been successful for me in creating this style
Same, been trying so badly like Sorayama but failed some generations.
are public figures/celebrities allowed to be processed in a digital art style? the email goes over prompts of the "likeness" of them being rejected, but would this count as a likeness?
Whenever I create pottery or characters, which is the prompt to try to receive the whole body as an image_ Shall I write 50mm? I write full body but most of the times crop the parts. Thanks in advance 😉
As I'm sure you've noticed by now, our filters aren't that advanced 😅 so it'll hard-block on specific names. I'm curious what kinds of public figures & celebrities you'd like to generate in digital art style so that we can keep that in mind as we iterate on the filters!
thanks for the fast answer! just silly things such as "charli xcx funko pop" or a painting of ariana grande done by monet, people that go hand-in-hand with pop culture (just my interpretation)
That makes sense! At the end of the day, the spirit of the policy is for us to prevent images like "Kanye West punching Pete Davidson", "Ariana Grande wasted / passed out on the streets" etc hurting the individuals in question.
So our general review philosophy remains the same in terms of reinstating accounts if we don't sense ill & deceptive intentions in the query history.
got it, basically no using it in a nefarious manner which should be easy for people to follow lol, thank you!
We totally understand that there are lots of valid & delightful use cases associated with generating public figures and uploading selfies etc (like being able to change hairstyles, outfits, etc!) -- so we hope to figure out a way to safely enable those in the future! For now we're taking baby steps that are way more restrictive that we'd like for it to be.
Would love to be able to appeal the moderation. I wanted to generate a vase of dying flowers and it said no. Also, a maine coon kitten (I am generating a variety of breeds of kittens, tbh, but it doesn't like the biggest domesticated cat breed).
Just to clarify, the system will still unfortunately block certain celebrity names regardless of context; it's the review appeal process that we have more control over. So your account might still get frozen if you enter prompts w/ public figure names enough times, but we'll reinstate your account!
got it bestie, thanks for the in-depth answer regarding that question i had, been wondering about it before this email as well
I'll sometimes prompt using a celebrity name to influence the image, not to get a picture of the celebrity. For example "A painting of a swan posing like Tom Cruise" or "A cyberpunk landscape from the imagination of William Gibson" -- I assume those will get blocked as well?
Strange, I managed to have maine coon in one of my prompts not too long ago
What would you say is the line between a public figure and a historical figure?
unfortunately yes for now -- that said we're investigating ways to reduce risk of deception by limiting the list of celebrities to certain criteria (vs. all names that have ever existed in IMDB, Billboard, etc). It's a constant struggle to figure out what exactly we want to prevent and why -> translate that into policy & safety mitigations
I looked into this (one of my two cats is a Maine Coon) -- we use both a simple blocklist and more advanced classifiers, and the part that's blocking Maine Coon is the latter which means that context matters. So if you just input "maine coon" it'll probably let you vs. it may not let through "a maine coon getting attacked"
The distinction between the two is probably easy (dead vs. alive), but the distinction between public figure vs. non-public figure is harder IMO (if there's a Youtuber with 1M followers, is that a public figure?). This is where we lean on our risk framework of what we're trying to prevent and how likely is that to happen!
Alright, think I got it, I figured George Washington was fine, George Bush wasn't but didn't know if say "MacArthur impressionist painting" or "Nixon on skates" were (what's 'ancient history' to some may still be living memory to others and such)
to be fair we block Hitler and he's been dead for a while 😅
Would people like JFK be allowed if it is digital art?
someone may have asked this but i couldnt find it, how will you be differentiating celebrity faces from characters they play? Example: "Mr Bean wearing a beanie, photorealistic picture" vs "Rowan Atkinson wearing a beanie, photorealistic picture"? Or are both not allowed?
just prominent public figure names, so the only latter wouldn't be allowed
thank you for the quick response!
Is Albert Einstein allowed?
I think dead people are generally ok unless they symbolize hate given that the risk of deception is low!
Is there going to be a way to change the name that publicly displays on our profile when sharing images (if we want to be more anonymous)?
@neat bridge Hi! Regarding the latest email about policy changes to photorealistic face images, to clarify we're allowed to share these types of images now, so long as we're not uploading our own photorealistic images as prompts or attempting to create likeness of celebrities/public figures?
have you tried changing your name in your OpenAI account profile? support@openai.com might be able to help if you run into any issues doing that! but as for changing the name just for sharing, we probably won't be able to prioritize that anytime soon
yes exactly!
Awesome! Can't wait to share more ☺️
hi @neat bridge, I often use film directors or classic artists to capture a certain aesthetic, for example Stanley Kubrick or Wes Anderson and Van Gogh, for example, would these kind of uses come under the disallowed terms? "In the style of a Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson Movies" would no longer be accepted? "... in the style of van Gogh, in the style of René Magritte" is still permitted?
I can certainly see ways around using celebrity names though, by using "modern, minimalist cinema" and "expressionist painting" etc, but sometimes it is quite uncanny that Dalle captures the very essence of a certain film, by using a director as a touchstone.
Are you allowed to generate variations of your own face?
styles are fine — we won’t be blocking wes anderson for example
The no face uploads thing is unfortunately a blanket thing regardless of whose face it is — because on our side at scale, there’s no feasible way for us to determine whether or not you’re uploading your own face vs. other faces and whether or not you have their consent.
E-brokerages like Coinbase for example have you upload your driver’s license & a selfie — which is definitely a bit too much for DALL-E usage heh
Ohh that's true haha, fair enough
🤔 Where do you change options for your OpenAI account profile? I can't seem to find it
ok sorry I lied — I just tried and couldn’t figure out how either; @trim kite is there a way to change names?
Oh, fantastic 🎨
I can see the argument for not being able to change names
It's not like I'm too concerned about my anonymity or anything
But I know other people are, and I also don't see why it matters if people see "Ryan" versus "BadSap" versus "asdfasdfasdfasd"
I have mentioned this previously, but back in the 90s I paid the Roger Richman Agency for a license to use the famous photo of Einstein sticking his tongue out. I don’t know who owns the rights today.
🤔 Where do you change options for your
Is there anyway to retrieve past generations that you did not save beyond just the last 10?
searching your history with keywords you used on their prompt
history?
where is that?
Did not specify, I mean the browser history
why isn't this feature included? it would be so helpful
im just bookmarking my fav generations.. they're still building and are a small team I think
question about the new policy on faces: yesterday i tried putting my own real name in and got a "this looks like it violates our content policy" plus what seemed like a warning. i don't want to lose access since i just got it, so i figured i would ask before i try again with the new content policy: is this allowed?
Is Ronald McDonald fair game?
Can we generate cartoons like dora the explorer, etc? Mario?
I get a warning that the uploaded image may violate the content policy, but the picture was of garfield the cat smoking a pipe. Is this supposed to happen?
further, does the new rule mean we can't use existing fictional characters? Can I not make dall-e of homer simpson or darth vader?
Is “Flat Earth” censored to avoid conspiracy-proving with AI images or is there another reason?
I was curious to see if it can generate a flat earth on some animals, however it doesn’t follow the policies it seems
would you mind DMing me your name? It may be that there’s a politician somewhere in the world with your name.
our image filter does not like smoking — so I’m pretty sure it’s reacting to that and not garfield (we love cats here, especially the orange & chubby kind)
quick question
it was this one, the classic meme:
I have to ask ... is it just me or is DALL-E way way better now at generating photorealistic faces than even say last week. Has there always been a twin DALL-E 2 model with faces in the training dataset? What's the story behind this - is there a name for this twin model? When was it deployed? How long has it been around 😄 the results are really awesome btw
whenever I try to use DALL-E on my phone, all I get is this white screen, is this due to incompatible phone version? or something else?
you can! Here’s the “spirit” of the policy and what we’re actually trying to prevent:
hmm I’m not sure about this — is this Android & Chrome?
ok thanks, is this okay then? i put "kanye west as the saviour of mankind, by an italian renaissance artist"
yeah Android and chrome
Does the AI “search” for images? As in if I ask for a character like “Raiden Shogun” or “Yoda”, or is everything pretrained?
unfortunately our system isn’t that sophisticated 😿 so we hard block on certain names, kanye included:
hmmm, maybe I'll have to do "notable african american rapper"
we made some model improvements after we launched, but not last week! It happened a few weeks ago, and very few people noticed how much it improved because a lot of users stopped generating photorealistic faces (as we wrote in the email, the community really embraced our content policy and we’re so so grateful for it!)
maybe try a renaissance painting of the rapper with hit album life of pablo and let us know what you get? 🙈
(this is not an official endorsement of policy circumvention tactics)
it's going to have someone holding an album
or not
everything is pretrained! the analogy i’ve been using to explain is that it’s like showing a kid a bunch of different flash cards (hundreds of millions) — many of the flash cards containing different versions of yoda so that the kid (= model) learns what yoda looks like, as opposed to looking up yoda in real time when asked to draw one
maybe it only knows what a rapper is, not that kanye specifically made that album
are historical figures allowed? Can I do "karl marx ..."?
generally yes — our guidance is that it not be a historical figure that symbolizes hate (e.g. hitler, stalin)
or maybe "prominent marxist philosopher"
ok
ultimately we just don’t want deceptive content and hateful content — and the policies & safety mitigations we put in place are basically our best effort at the moment in terms of helping us achieve that while also working on a million other things like scaling!
this isn't really a "bug" per se but i noticed on my first day's generation that dalle2 seems to be completely stumped by "trombone"
i tried two different prompts as well as just "trombone" by itself and it was 100% trumpets
(i've since thought of a few more ways i might nudge it but i ran out of daily rations)
interesting! wonder why that is — maybe trombones always appeared with trumpets in the training data so it never learned
embouchure needs some work but all AIs get fuzzy with human-object interactions
is there a list of bad words anywhere? i got dinged for "the death of socrates, drawn by gary larson" (i assume "death"?) and one or two other things, don't wanna waste any daily gens
can you just upload the file?
yes it’s death, but we don’t publicly share the full list. Fwiw content filter hits don’t count against the 24-hour cap!
Is DALL-E 3/2 going to fix the line where it shows where it start to generate the rest of the image? I see Google's Pallete from last November already has a better blend transition (very sure at least).
not sure I understand the question, can you show us?
sooo, see this one i made DALL-E 2 do....
there is a notiable line after the 256x256 area where it start to generate the fake part of the iamge
(the middle is the input, i iteratively extended it lol)
Try using the brush to make the edge not as hard
hmm, but the eraser openAI gives me is needs to be used even if my input is transparent, white, or image
You just need to click it once
the openAI eraser dos have a bit of an edge that is half deleted but cant really make that bigger, and of course i already had that effect much of the time (there is a 1 pixel wide division that is half deleted, in most my submitted erased inputs)
click what? you mean the size of the eraser?
I mean if your image already has transparency just click the transparent area with the eraser
hmm, and it all goes away just like that? No need to erase it all by hand lol?
right click?
still though what I'm talking about though is a known subject it seems in research papers, there is a transition to the real and fake image part that in older algorithms doesn't do it so well. I was just wondering if they saw Google's Pallete.
Just seen the Cosmopolitan cover made in Dalle2, awesome result. Does this also mean that we can do this for clients now as Karen did? Notifying OpenAI beforehand if necessary 🙂
I see people posting face generations ... are we allowed to in-private make face generations on purpose? And even can post them here? I think the answer is no but asking now.
Check your email, the policy changed very recently - we're allowed to post photorealistic faces on social media now, just not generations of real people / public figures
what ... i never read it that way let me see......oh, i overlooked the word 'permit'
that reminds me I have to look at again then the policy now
are there any rules about "public figure" or is it just "you'll know if you get a red exclamation point"
I also wanted to ask this !
Also, when will outpainting tool drop ?
is it possible to add to the pretraining?
without* having danger of harm
say an ai to recognise wether an image is a celebrity or something nsfw, and not allow those
i wonder if it’s possible for the ai to know characters
fictional that is
Follow
Also guys I have another question, how many times can I make a mistake and get caught by the red flag before getting banned? Sometimes I really get caught by stupid mistakes like I once wrote "broken ugly car" and got caught for "ugly" but it happened many other times with many other minor examples (not like that time I tried to make Putin eat a piece of cheese which I understand) so yeah I was wondering if there's a limit or not
Try to use the word "cyclop" instead of human
Thanks i'll try that
I'm wondering about the current copyright situation with DALL-E (I was going through previous questions but all definitions seem a bit blurry + the Sharing &
Publication Policy page only describes social media related situations which is quite limiting)
Is it safe to say that currently DALL-E's sharing policy is pretty much equivalent to a CC BY-NC 3.0 license? Meaning that as long as the use is attributed to both the AI and the person who inputs the prompt, in a non-commercial context, sharing and spreading the creations is encouraged?
The prompt was "evil pikachu with a axe, fighting a golem, digital art" here, why did dalle do it like that? How can i make them fight?
dm'ing
I'm curious about this as well. I've had 5 or 6 now and just while doing innocuous things. I think my first ding was "man-o-war" when I was trying to generate Darth Vader as a pirate on a man-o-war ship.
Yesterday I tried something along the lines of "aerial photo of a soviet lunar base" after binging the first season of For All Mankind and got dinged, presumably for 'soviet'
Would it be possible to access older generated artworks or are those artworks deleted from the system?
You have to save stuff to your gallery (or your computer) otherwise they fall off access for users. I would recommend just saving everything to your computer, unless you absolutely hate it. The file name will contain the query so you know how you generated it later.
My prompts are too short for the file name to save them
Sometimes I wish DallE would imbed the prompt in the metadata
Somehow
Ohh, would that mean that those artworks are gone from DALLE 2's system?
I think it saves everything
So if you go to your history you could find it
I have no idea, they're gone for you though. I would suspect OpenAI is saving all images with query though for both research and spot-checking for violations.
Browser history
Thank you!!
Omg thank goodness I can see all the artworks in history
thank you so much
These images are in the 1-2mb range usually though, 6 images per text query, x 50 queries a day, x many thousands of users... storing an entire user's history for them to have access to on demand would get expensive very fast
I'd save the images ASAP
That’s the best thing to do
Oki dokies, I'll start saving! Thank you Ryan and Kedar!
storage is cheap, especially relative to gpu usage
it wouldn't surprise me if they did save everything for research
Yeah, but 1000 users using all 50 queries each day would generate 525~ gigabytes a week and I've seen thrown around they're adding "thousands of users a week" now. Storing images for research is one thing, but storing the entirety of a user's images for the user to retrieve on demand is a whole different beast.
sure, but s3 costs $0.02 per gb, per month. one week for 1000 users would be $1/mo, and that's if openai doesn't have a deal with any cloud provider, and doesn't take advantage of tiers of storage (e.g. archive storage is $0.004/gb/mo)
a single gpu can cost like $3/h
Phew
given openai's scale, storage is probably not a worry
Yeah, and then they have to waste time creating a way for you to access (and presumably search through) thousands of your own queries, etc. Not worth it when they give you the option to save an image with the query in the filename with 1 click
And give you a baked in gallery feature to save/share images you like
the fact that you can access things on your browser history and still see them (without burning an additional prompt of the quota) also indicates it's stored somewhere
All of those things have initial, and ongoing, costs. A save button negates the need
it's not for you and me, it's for research :)
I got dinged trying soviet realism as an art style as well. It doesnt like that for sure.
try "social realism"
seems to work
Hi all. I got a warning that "inside a small chashitsu" is a "request that may not follow (our) content policy"
I'm not sure why.
As a chashitsu is a Japanese tea room.
could be the sequence of letters "shit" that it does not like? i accidentally did tilt-shit once and i got warned
That's my guess
since it dinged me for "man-o-war"
agreed, sorry about that
that's my guess though
Yeah, it's plausible.
Dall-E is sensitive, and we need to use it with care 😂
I imagine the names of some plants would similarly trip it such as https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Pussy_willow
I had a previous in-office job where I couldn't even navigate to the wiki entries for some explosive and I was like "wow, that's crazy they'd name explosives in the language filter" I forget what it was but the name had something that was remotely akin to a swear word and was tripping the filter
It wasn't even like "chashitsu" it was a sound-alike spelling
I believe this is called the Scunthorpe problem
also interested. Would be nice, if it would be open for commercial use at least for concepts
Fancy that, it has a name
It also doesn't like Soviet propaganda. You can try communist realism. Or communist propaganda
Best one was "American communist propaganda", for that uniquely American touch.
Oh man "American communist propaganda" that just generated a ton of generic gibberish haha
I would also be interested in knowing if any edit will be done to the original generated image (for example layering or editing on Photoshop) how the usage of it would change
It's a particular style.
Homer Simpson in the style of American communist propaganda
I got scarred yesterday doing bart simpson as a bratz doll, my mind is blanking out the homer image haha
I noticed it doesn't do "bayeux tapestry very well"
https://labs.openai.com/s/4JzqKlwgN2H8oqHT7fMUQowi hmmm travel poster nerfed it but still fun image
It likes red I guess
I’ve also tried propaganda posters, but I was too scared to use any specific location
One hack I did find is to specify Chinese watercolor in addition
To nudge it toward something Maoist
Does anyone know why Dall.e is less good at generating the specific style of a given artist than Midjourney?
Like if I prompt "in the style of Craig Mullins" or "Greg Rutkowski" which both gives great results with MJ and are widely used, I get results that look nothing like their style.
But the weirdest thing is that if I upload a picture of an artist and then edit it, Dall.e often does a decent job at filing the blanks. So it seems it somewhat knows the style but there is no obvious way to prompt it?
I just did Chinese communist propaganda and it worked. Same with North Korean
Place name + propaganda works well enough
I've noticed this too, gaps in dall.e understanding or ability to call specific artists or styles. I wonder if it has anything to do with plagiarism/ip concerns. Pure speculation tho.
What I have noticed is that dall.e has a bias for pikachu. It seems quite well trained on pikachu, and thinks that many plushies are pikachu, even when pikachu is not requested.
It has a vague inkling of what most Pokémon look like, but Pikachu is the only one it seems to be able to do consistently well
Comedy ensues when you ask it to generate other Pokémon as photorealistic 3D renders
hi
what's the reason for garbling text in generated images? 🤔
Scroll up, it was discussed earlier. It just doesn't know what text input makes a particular image. Only that some inputs are related to word like shapes in an image
How does the AI handle Internet figures? I tried looking up some vtubers (including Nyanners who has been around for like a decade) and they all came out with random people or none at all
I imagine it just has no idea who they are, probably not trained on a data set containing them or their simply aren't a lot of images of them out there in general
Just like it gets pikachu, but struggles with other named pokemon. It knows Rick and sometimes Morty, but doesn't appear to know Beavis and Butt-head. Etc.
Related- do we know what year the dataset is from?
Believe it encompasses photos from 2019 and before
Should not know what COVID is
Gotcha, thank you
you gotta lower your pop culture expectations massively, dalle2 does not know who ryu from street fighter is
ryu from street fighter doing his taxes
Or trollface
@neat bridge When pricing rolls out, will we own or have a way to own the rights of images we generated before the pricing roll-out?
Hey! I just got invited to use DALL-E again (with an email from OpenAI), does this mean I got access based on my position on the original waitlist and I received it again since had been invited "manually" by OpenAI?
we're working on this!
hmm we don't send duplicate invites -- could it be that you signed up twice w/ different email addresses, with one forwarding to the other?
I just checked and can confirm both emails were sent to the same email address
If there is any chance this was based on my original position in the waitlist is there a possibility I could use it to "invite" someone? 🤣
Since I already got access
Question: I noticed it takes ~2 seconds to generate 1 sample form DALL-E 2. What does my prompt run on? 1 A100 for example? 3 H100s?
got my second ever warning and im genuinely confused, does anyone know what might have triggered this?
update; was either shanghai (probs not), merdeka, 118, or "merdeka 118", still no idea why it's flagged haha
ahh the filter rejects addresses and other personal identifiable information (PII) like email addresses, phone numbers, etc — in this case the address isn’t PII, but it’s not that smart heh
understandable! thanks for the answer
@neat bridge are there plans currently for paid prompts/daily limit removal?
yes!
I can't wait! 50 prompts per day feels too restrictive for me. I'm too scared of "wasting prompts" to experiment to see what works and what doesn't, especially as a new user
Is there any consensus as to how much it will cost per prompt? Or are you not allowed to say
are we not allowed to get pictures of mosques?
masjid works
thanks
If I try to generate an image with a banned word (by accident), does it count as a request and will take it from the 50 daily requests?
Hi Joanne, I also got a duplicate invite (on the 16th June) and know of at least one other person who received one. It was sent to the same address as the original invite, and I only signed up to one waiting list 🤷♀️
Is there a chance we can get the site to generate circular watermarks for profile pictures and such?
Not sure what the guidance is there, because right now it would hide the rainbow D:
mosque works for me!
guess it depends what you put with it
here's two examples where it went well https://labs.openai.com/s/NoJnRtuGLtB4NiDnAh25VXuP, https://labs.openai.com/s/L8w5AoMsLPlDWpCc1I7ezbQ2
yooo! the Haifa one actually looks like the real one hahahaha @rough tundra
this didn't work with mosque in it
https://labs.openai.com/s/9Ga68mF7cGT7dB2JqUVYiAfE
My old city had a place that had the mosque lit up like this every single night
wow, don't know why that'd be the case
Excuse me but what is the problem here?
"Blood" of blood moon?
That's not good, i just want to make blood moon. Not Real blood
This is an ai
It should understand what i mean, like it can stop me if i write just blood which is blood, but if i write blood moon, it should understand me and allow me, same with War and War veterans, or War ships etc.
When early end and Final version release, we ("beta testers") can continue to use it for free?
"red colored moon"
no consensus yet, sorry!
if this was at 3:30 am ish PT that was entirely my bad sorry! I was experimenting w something and messed up
I think @indigo rune had a really cute & minimalistic template for this as well as her current profile picture template — @indigo rune would you mind sharing that w us again!
the AI powering the prompt filters is not as powerful as DALL-E — and when it came to:
(a) spend more weeks making the prompt filters perfect to launch DALL-E / onboard people
(b) ship DALL-E first with an overly restrictive / naive filter logic and iterate on them as we go
we chose (b). I’ll look into allowing blood moon today, thanks for the feedback! In the meantime I’d try “red moon” like @verbal crag suggested or “lunar eclipse”!
I’m all for experimentation 🙂 (just thought it might be useful feedback) Thanks for all your hard work btw, really appreciate what you’re doing
yessss thank you for answering all of our questions! really love how active some employees are here to help or just to chat/vibe
yeahh this is amazing!! Tysm I'll check out the template 😄
Thanks, i really love dall-e 2, i hope we can have a better word filter in the final Dall E 2. I'd love to see looser restrictions.
- social credit meme intensifies *
Does DALL•E consider capitalization in prompts?
Some people prefer it thinner, there’s also just the logo in the corner
queen
i don't think so!
this is amzing tysm
How many strikes do we get until automatic suspension?
If I were that person I would be sticking to avocado armchairs for a while lol
I've accidentally had 6 in a week
"portal to hell on mars" "darth vader as a pirate captain of a man-o-war" etc
my first one was "tilt-shit"
second one was the name of the second tallest building in the world which would not let me
I have no inside knowledge but I imagine there's probably some formula that triggers a manual review based on metric statements I've seen somewhere on OpenAI pages. If I were doing it I'd implement something like "if frequency / time > x then suspend" as well as "if frequency / time > y then manual review" and also "if trigger = specific-set-of words and frequency / time > z (with a much lower number) then suspend"
That right there would give you a fairly solid "this is probably a troublemaker" automation
that's makes much more sense. someone who's gone 800 generations but only 1/40 of them trigger the system, it should not spark an automatic ban
although it would if the system was primarily based on "if x exceeds 19 (in this case), ban"
strikes?
do you mean this?
Yeah
i wonder why "flat earth" is banned though
oh
"Deception"
but i mean as long we disclose it is generated by AI i feel like the deception prompts should not be soo harsh
specific words can also be bypassed evasive, if AI is used to detect which prompts are illegal, then i can only see a manual review possible or maybe just block prompt without even a strike
Hi. I have tried asking support multiple times but not gotten a response so I will try here. My invite's "Get started" button was broken by my work's email filtering, so I created an account through the public login link on openai.com link thinking that was what I had to do. When I saw DALL-E wasn't on there, I went back to the original email and noticed I had missed the get started link. Now I get an authentication error when trying to use it. Can I get my account reset somehow?
ping one of the yellow ones, they may tell you what to do next
Thanks! @neat bridge maybe you can help me?
Where do you see how many daily generations you have left? Also what is the purpose of the colored bar watermark on all of the images?
- As of now, you can't
- It's a watermark and that's it
Easily enough removed. The lack of features in this program certainly is apparent. I understand it's in a very new beta but still......
You shouldn't remove the watermark. That is a violation of the terms of service. The watermark, aka Dall-E's signature, is there so that people know if they're looking at an AI generated image
unless that policy was changed
There may be a reason for that watermark though. Just my theory; since it gets trained via images found online, the watermark is there maybe to identify its own work and exclude it from training from it.
Eventually, there will be loads of AI generated images online. That simple watermark may just prevent it from self-referencing itself in the future. This will allow it to create original, accurate, and realistic outputs. Just my theory though!
any idea why this would have gotten flagged? original image was generated by dalle, I just edited it to try to disconnect the pipe from the panda's face
I'm sticking with MidJourney in general anyway. No big deal.
I'm sticking with everything.
Welp! Nevermind.
Wait so what does that mean I don't get it
My account screen
what’s this about?
Dalle somehow thinks this upload contains realistic faces. Does this mean parameters should be adjusted?
So i just wanna double check i wanna run a post on twitter where people who dont have art of there online furry avatars and make some for them
Any thoughts about what the filter issue was with this prompt?
"art deco interior of a colonial "generation" starship dining area. greenery around light fittings and broad windows to the stars. real estate photography"
Colonial, maybe?
That's what I thought at first, but this prompt went through yesterday: “Ivan Shishkin realist oil painting colonial sydney harbour. Port jackson waterview framed by gums and Casuarina ”
(which is, tbh, way more problematic 😅)
I have no idea then
no idea why this happens. anyone have any idea why the site isn't loading on my phone? is this happening to anyone else?
As long as they don’t pay you, making it for commercial purpose, I believe it should be just as fine as me going through reddit and doing every requested prompt
why limit it on furries though, help everyone 😊
Hey, quick question about DALL E 2! I just got access, and I can't seem to find how many images out of the 50 image limit are left!
yeah there's currently no counter that shows you
I think they are gonna add one soon though
if you read through #suggestions you can also see that there are many people suggesting it
indeed
cool, coming from midjourney, so I'm used to seeing all that wonderful data
Is there anywhere I can find a list of banned dall e words?
Is the 50 prompt limit normal? I only received access late last night and I don't recall doing 50 prompts. 😔 😂 I really wanted to go wild today
Also I missed the information about how long one will have access to this opportunity to use Dalle? I was only onboarded late last night.
Yes, that is normal. Each prompt renews after 24 hours upon use. Maybe you generated variations as well, I think that also counts to the 50 limit.
AFAIK, no information as of yet for the duration of our access.
Haven't seen any compilation for that. You may refer to the https://labs.openai.com/policies/content-policy though. Anything close to what's listed there will get flagged by the AI.
🙏🏻
yeah that would be nice as it got triggered by the word pissed when i was useing as emotion as not as the other meaning
how many modern and digital artists does Dall-E know?
We don't know. All we know is that it's trained with aprox. 650M images.
https://cdn.openai.com/papers/dall-e-2.pdf
we could collect some data to field a guess, but it's work 😅 i've had several clear misses but also some quite obscure hits
quick question, do the the 50 generations per 24 hour period roll over to the next day if you have not used them the previous day?
I've never used it on mobile but I've had it partially load/not load parts of the site numerous times in the past week, a refresh always fixes it
Definitely not based on my experience
Hi I’m interested to know how you managed to iterate and rotate the same character?
Question: will a version of the model ever be available for use not on the openai servers iygm?
hopefully someone will correct me because i'm not an AI expert, but in my understanding there are two things at play - the model itself and the data / training. you could take the model off the server, but are you going to train the new version with 650 million images of your own?
Correct, even running the model would be a problem. I haven't been able to find specific requirements, but I doubt you would be able to run the model on anything but a special dedicated server with an enterprise GPU (or rather, several hundreds). The main constraint is probably graphics memory, and there simply aren't any consumer graphics cards with such high amounts of VRAM. Training the model would likely require even more memory.
The (apparently now renamed) "dalle mini" (not related to OpenAI in any way) model can run on a single GPU, given you have one with at least 24GB VRAM. This is enough to also get it running in Google Colab.
I got dall-e-mini running on mine which has 8gb of vram
Oh nice! According to Colab, mine was using all 24GB of vram but I guess it might work on lower memory cards too at maybe a lower speed? Mine generates all 8 outputs in ~10s or so
I might be confusing something but I think dalle mini colab can be run using dalle mini or dalle mega model . This is copied from LAION discord "craion script needs at least 16gb of vram, the mega f16 script needs 8gb dalle mini i think only needs 5-6gb"
and for comparison, another big model "Kandinsky will be available using one 32gb V100 only"
Tensorflow consumes all available vram by default. There's a variable to make it only use what it needs to.
"mega-1-fp16" crashes the notebook for me (not enough memory apparently), but "mini-1:v0" works fine
The one I have running now uses 6gb. This is using the mega fp16
I can get you the script tomorrow if you like
Sure, thanks!
XLA_PYTHON_CLIENT_PREALLOCATE=false XLA_PYTHON_CLIENT_ALLOCATOR=platform
Aaah, so it preallocates all the memory by default, gotcha
Set those environment variables, mine is using 6337mb of vram
Serves an image in 8s
I wrote a flask service to wrap around generating dall E mini images
The one I have running now uses 6gb This
I've tried refreshing so many times
maybe clear cookies?
Wow!!! i really want to learn how to do it!!!
This is speculative; I don't think anyone has confirmed the memory requirements for this model.
And to date I don't know of any text to image tool that is able to do distributed processing across multiple GPUs.
Happy to be corrected if someone has an example.
@neat bridge I can't wait for monetization to roll out, so can I please just pay OpenAI like $50 to unlock my account for unlimited generations per day now?
Yeah "unlimited" wouldn't be realistic. You could have a script open xx number of tabs and just hammer it with a list of queries you've written in advance
And it'd take like 6 seconds for someone to start upselling "enter your queries here, checkout with paypal" then have their script submit them to DALL-E 2 and rip them over to the site
Well that would break TOS
Like ToS stop shady people...
Tobacco and smoking is filtered although not perfectly. Vaping is fine though. Get creative with your language
Hi there ! Does anyone know how the 50 prompt limit works (do they roll over, is it at the same time every day, etc...?) Just want to keep track 🙂
you get 50 generations, and each of those has a 24 hour rolling cooldown. let's say I have 50 free ones to use, and I use them in two hours; I'll have to wait 22 hours to be able to do more. does that make sense?
When you run out, it will tell you when you get more
Each prompt you use has a 24 hour cooldown. Imagine it like you have a wallet with $50. every prompt, you pay a dollar with the agreement that that dollar is payed back to you 24 hours after you use it
Oh ok! Great thank you so much that makes sense. Genius way to do it : )
Are we allowed to pay for more than 50 requests/24 hours?
is it possible to refer people for access?
That's not a thing at the moment
Are prompts in other language besides English allowed? (Many have tried, and they /do/ work, but there was nothing explicitly mentioned if its allowed or not)
I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed. I think it would be bad if you used it to circumvent the filtering or breach the terms of service
They might not be as effective but they do work to varying degrees. "masjid" returns "mosque" just fine
anyone having issues with the code to be sent to mobile phone
I've had issues with using Chinese for prompts sometimes
I've found that English works better
I've already done some experiments with words in Portuguese and they were successful, most of the time they don't have translation into other languages. Now, I don't remember if it would be allowed to use another language. Wouldn't that confuse the system? Would @neat bridge know how to help us if it was allowed?
I find that it understands the prompt, but not entirely, at least for Macedonian/Czech, Russian is a bit better quality
ahh that makes sense, particularly why it wouldn't get flagged until I made the edit
It doesn't like uploads containing smoking
It's happy to generate them though
Is there a Python API that lets us query DALL-E
I think there is, but it wouldn't be available to us, only researchers
Is the watermark sufficient, or do we also have to write a blurb about openai when posting somewhere (for example insta story)
i assume there is no way to go further back in the history? should have saved those generations into my collection, damn.
you can use your browser history to access your older generations
that worked, thank you!
Hi I recibed this mail few days ago, but idk how to access to dall-e
try labs.openai.com
if you’re using outlook, there’s a known bug in which the button with the link is black and it just makes it invisible somehow… per @past geyser ‘s advice, try labs.openai.com/auth/login !
Is it common for the website to not load images on Safari? It works when I try on Edge but not Safari
Joanne, would you mind reading my DM, the boys at Corridor would love to get DALL-E 2 acces, they are a youtube channel with several million subs
or someone else from the openai team, dm me
ty so much it works
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_von_Werner what does one call those extremely detailed paintings? as in, what do i have to type as a prompt to replicate this style?
You can actually use “Anton Alexander von Werner” as a prompt or “in the style of……”
were images/screenshots from FPS games used in the training data? I assume not, I've tried to generate images from games like TF2 and Halo, but it doesn't seem to work
I can’t comment on the training data — but even if they were a part of the initial set, most of them probably would not have made it bc we filtered out gun imagery
guys i keep getting this message when trying to log in , any idea on what im doing wrong ? :c
Email them
yh done ^^
You mean "Anton Alexander von Werner" right?
Also would "Anton von Werner" suffice?
And yeah I knew about the whole artist stuff but I wasnt sure if the dataset included his paintings tbh.
@plucky moon also what fo you csll that art style still?
"Highly reslistic oil painting"?
how do I use this? Do I just put it over the profile image in photoshop or am i supposed to use this inside dall-e 2 to generate a profile picture?
also, is it even allowed to use profile pictures generated by Dall-E 2? i mean I assume so since one of the devs replied lol but I just wanna make sure. i have had my current profile picture for around 5 years now so it would be cool to generate a new one using Dall-E 2
speaking of: is it okay to post Dall-E 2 images on communities other than discord, instagram, twitter, and the /r/dalle2 subreddit?
like, I generated some cool pictures that look like Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. Am I allowed to post these in the /r/horizon subreddit? ofc specifying that it was created by Dall-E w
bunch of questions i know, sorry
Yes! My bad I meant "von". You can try the shortened version and see if it works
Yeah I would try anything along those lines like "hyperrealism oil painting" etc
Yes you can post on other media. It's your responsibility to make sure people know that they're looking at ai generated images from Dall-E. Others like myself have created entire separate instagram pages for posting their Dall-E creations as well
oh yes i am aware of you being allowed to post it on instagram, twitter, the dall e subreddit. i just wssnt sure if this would also cover othrr subreddits like a subreddot for a specific game you generated an image for, or such things. could be that those are excluded for some reason. i just wanna be very safe here haha.
I've done that before I just put it in the title [Made by Dalle-2 AI] or something
- the watermark, and I leave a comment explaining
did you find the secret?
by the watermark you mean this small colourful stripe in the bottom right corner that is there with every generation right?
has anyone gotten access to DALL-E 2’s “outpainting” feature yet (described in link below)? 🤔
https://www.cosmopolitan.com/lifestyle/a40314356/dall-e-2-artificial-intelligence-cover/
Yes. Camera location. Angles.
"----- facing the camera"
"----- facing to the left/right of the camera"
"-----, side view"
"low-angle"
"shot from above"
Thanks, it will help me a lot in creating characters
Is there any sort of referral system? I have a few artist friends who are dying to get access 😅
Not at the moment
Thank you
on the same topic:
i have a friend who does not have access to Dall-E 2 but who would like to use some images i created for him for something private. i dont remember what exactly, but it might have had something to do with a DnD session or worldbuilding or something else. the point is, it would not be anything commercially.
but since it wasnt him who generated those images, but me, i wonder if its okay if he uses them or shares them with others?
i assume this would be okay, as long as the watermark is still visible and he makes clear that those images were generated by Dall-E 2, not him?
That sounds fine!
Use photoshop (or any other tool)
how does editing work?
like i get the erasing part and that it fills that in then, based on the description. but does the description have to contain elements of the previous prompt? or only what i want drawn?
Lemme give you an example:
"Woman standing in front of a mirror."
Lets say I want to erase the mirror and replace it with a refrigerator. So I erase the mirror.
Does the updated description now have to say:
"Woman standing in front of a refrigerator"
or
"Refrigerator"?
"Woman standing in front of a refrigerator"
Describe the whole thing still.
ok thanks
Then for complex prompts, if just editing one thing, for example, you've described a scene with a cat in a detailed manner and you want it replaced for a dog. In the edit, you'll just erase the cat and for the prompt; you'll just generalize everything and remove the detailed modifiers but mention the dog.
thank you
Question: Does choosing 'Variations' take into consideration the prompt you've used or does it just base on the image?
from what ive read it does not take any prompts into account. only the image
i like warships like age of sail warships, ww1/2 warships, or fantasy airship warships.
i assume the generation of those is not allowed under the content policy and probably filted as well?
I see. Gotta test something. Thanks.
I believe 'War' will get flagged
right but if i create a variation on the airship "Goliath" from the Ghibli anime movie "Castle in the Sky" I assume that would also not be allowed?
since that one is armed
Someone knows HOW to do pictures of objects where the objects are not cropped? or close to be cropped? Would always love a bit of zoom out, besides I try 35mm to 60mm, most of the times crop the objects
No idea about that sorry. Speaking of armed.. quite on-topic, I find that when I use "small arms" somewhere in my prompt, it will also get flagged. I just wanted my monster to have small arms lol.
Resize your image down. Leave some transparent space around it so DALL-E can generate the rest.
@verbal crag yes, I can do that, course, thanks , but : not as second generation but in the first one, with 1 prompt. Just how to adjust camera zooming out with a prompt, not inpainting.
I tried "long shot angle" with some jets & cars a few days ago. Not sure if it would work with that kind of object.
Perhaps "medium shot" / "wide shot"?
Wide shot is randomly responsive. This is a bit mistery for me, after generation hundreds of images I never have control of the total frame of the scene. Thanks for the tips. If anybody else here can help with the question would be amazingly thankful.
POSTED MANY images in my new account: http://instagram.com/dalle2test
btw does it automatically remove the old watermark?
For framing it to the center, "centered composition" works.. but not everytime.
Good question. I'm not sure, I only found that example on Reddit. When I do that, I remove the watermark in Photoshop as it will generate a new one upon completion.
yeah that was my worry
i dont know how to quickly and easily remove that watermark as i dont have photoshop and thus dont have access that that "automatically fill in" tool
Well you could always erase it when editing in.
also what happens if i upload an image to Dall-E 2 that is not 1024x1024?
ah right!
It'll ask you to crop it
i assume "general" would also be against the content policy?
I wanna make a generation of General Grievous from StarWars
Does anyone know after how many violations of the policy you get your account suspended?
i would like to know the same. i got one violation trying to create Ahsoka from StarWars The Clone Wars. Didnt think "wars" in the context of "StarWars" was banned as someone else had successfully created a prompt using thst word
i assume its random and that they manually review each case. like trying to create a character from starwars, ecen multiple times, wont result in a ban i assume. but trying to get around the filter depicting a war would.
thats just my guess.
OpenAI team, can we have some numbers on how many people are getting approved per time period, how many people are on the waitlist (still over 1 million or 2 by now?), how many people have been approved?
I have also run into some flags, but they were all harmless haha. "a sloth hanging from a flag pole in new york" needed to be "a sloth lounging on a flag pole in new york", and other small things like that. I feel if my account history following that was 4 prompts in a row trying to get the literal meaning of the first prompt mentioned, then I would be in some trouble. My history shows I just go onto the next idea so I am not too worried
we shared this in the reddit AMA on Thursday — we’re at over 30K invited now!
oh wow! The probability of getting into beta is at 30k / 1m, making it a solid 3% gacha luck :o
hopefully someday soon it’ll be 100%!
it sure will be!
I can’t wait till this is out. It’s going to change everything.
and the guy who asked that question... Albert Einstein me, lol
35mm can still be a relatively tight focal length. Pull back further - 28, 24, 18 are common. Also "wide shot" is less technically accurate than "wide angle" at least in cinematic terminology.
"Shot" I feel can be more ambiguously parsed than "angle"
Appreciate this reply, Jeremy! 🙌🏻
No probs! Remember as well a bit more photography metalanguage can help it "read" those numbers a bit more narrowly, though sometimes at the cost of the creativity with which it handles the subject
I do really love this prompt for street photography , for example: nikkor telephoto lens, 120mm
24mm is common for street photography:
a woman with a parasol crossing a city street, ilford hp5, 24mm street photography
is it possible to get actual existing faces via inpainting with those pictures? #art-and-illustrations message
if so, got sny tips?
in my experience, yes! edit the image, remove the face, then emphasise "portrait" in the new prompt - "a rainbow warrior, portrait, hyperrealistic trending digital art". Usually works well.
Give it breathing/ working space for best results
Are there any plays to provide programmatic access to DALL-E via an API?
"rainbow warrior, portrait" would radically change the prompt tho, e.g. shorten it. is that okay?
Yep. It's only going to fill in the face, it will read the rest of the image and infer more from that to keep cohesion than the new prompt anyway. You just want to emphasise the word "portrait" and keep some style cues - "warrior portrait, trending digital art" might work equally well
ok im doing it now wish me luck
lmao it gave her a helmet
maybe i try "facial portrait" instead?
Yeah. Even remove "warrior"
i did this prompt:
"portrait of a female warrior with an undercut hairstyle, extremely detailed high quality hyperrealistic professional digital art trending on artstation"
"facial portrait of a girl with an undercut hairstyle, extremely detailed high quality hyperrealistic professional digital art trending on artstation"
lmao
i think i try some other day again lol
Any tips on converting Dalle 2d images to a 3d object? What’s the best way you recommend doing this?
I've seen people manually make their DALL-E 2 generations into 3D then they print it out.
Yes, just wondering if there is a more scalable/quick way to do it
For example - https://github.com/facebookresearch/pifuhd
(this is a 2 year old lib, there have been some big advancements since then)
hello, dose anybody knows how to check how many generations do i have left? how i can keep track of them?
unfortunately the only way is to keep track of it yourself.
there is also the issue of the time when you do prompts being pushed back further and further each day. which is why it was suggested to make the time to the next prompt 23:30h instead of 24h so that that doesnt happen and you can even make it a little bit earlier in the day.
thanks
Hey, does anyone know of a list of known “banned” dalle words?
is there a way to adjust the brush size when editing on mobile?
Wow! there really are a lot of people using it. Are all invited to enter here ?
i do wonder that too. this discord has "only" around ... 2k? users on it. thats a fraction of the people thata re able to use Dall-E currently. for comparison, the Midjourney discord has like 70k users on it i think.
so I wonder if its curated who gets invited to this discord or not. But it could very well just be that most people dont care enough to join. its optional afterall. and a lot of the users are probably people who dont even know what discord is? just a guess.
The discord link can be easily missed as it appears at the bottom. Also for me, when I clicked the link, it was giving me an error. I had to type out my invite link in the Discord app.
Vaping
This actually looks super cool like I would use this even if it wasnt required 😂
hey, is the name "guido" part of the blocklist?
its commonly known as derogatory term
is there any way to see how many prompts i have left in the day?
a calculator
lol so no
can i upload a 2d image of a character and dall e make it 3d?

Hi, I'm not sure if I heard wrong but aren't we supposed to be able to save the creations?
yes you can! by pressing the download button while hovering over an image, sharing the link (by pressing publish & copy after), or pressing save to save to your collection
Thx that helped. Is this a bug? I made some variations didn't like them and decided to save the original but there was no save option had to go all the way back to the original prompt to save the original image. Seems rather counter intuitive.
I’m very curious if the openai team can tell us if there are even going to be commercial options in the future, like with GPT-3?
what artists other than Albert Bierstadt and Ivan Shishkin does Dall-E know that paint landscapes or people in a very realistic artstyle?
Lucas, you generated the 90’s girl?? Saw that one on Reddit. Amazing.
Woah
Some sweet images in that collection
Hello! Does anybody know approximately how long does it take for the support to respond? Thank you
I've gotten good landscapes in the style of Asher Brown Durand, a contemporary of Bierstadt in the Hudson River School.
and i've gotten realistic people in the style of Petrus van Schendel
@plush sky thank you!
no rpoblem
Hmmm, you should be able to find the original version of the above in your computers history if you do variations of it
can’t save it from there sadly
@keen carbon @still ice thank you thank you
Guys
I had access 2 weeks ago and i tried to log in after that by a few days and it said account deactivated
I sent them an email a same week regarding that
But no one replied
So any of you got an idea why?
did you generate things that violated the content policy
I dont think so most of the things i generated were pretty mundane
But when i showed it to my friends
They were having fun and ig searched for inappropriate things
No one told
Me
So i have no idea
Ye ye nah I remember now i did try and see if it would generate like a knife of blood this sort of thing
But it didnt
So i dont see how I violated it
Because it didnt generate anything
@plush sky
well that's probably why you got deactivated
also if you shared your login with your friends maybe it detected that multiple people were using it at the same time
Oooooooh nooo
I always used it in incogni
Incognito
Maybe thats why
Is there a way i can make it get activated again
Anyone i can talk to?
i mean, they did though. the content policy i mean.
Ny friends i meant
Not the actual policy or rules
sorry but thats your fault if you let your friends just use your account without any oversight. if you give it to your friends so that they can have some fun with it, its your responsibility to make sure they dont do anything stupid with it.
anyway your only chance at regaining your account here is contacting support.
I have questions about uploading images
Which kind of image do I have "the proper rights" to use?
Copyright free images and images made by me, I understand
What about Creative Commons?
Could I use screenshots from a game or that would be too far?
Quick question about "realistic faces" rule. Are we just not allowed to upload them into the app/share generated ones publicly online? I tried to have Dall e generate a character and got a warning prompt two times. Assuming because of the realistic face? Other times it generated faces without issue when I went for classical paintings.
So.. what about this rule?
No it was on my phone not the account
So i just didnt see it happen
And it doesnt take long to generate pictures
Especially if they are against policy
It just says violation of policy or something and then you can search again
Pretty quick
it doesnt matter where it happened, if you give other people access to your ability to generate pictures with Dall-E, and they break the content policy, thats on you. you should have secured your phone/computer/account better then. or looked over their shoulders when they were generating pictures.
but im not a mod nor an admin nor a part of OpenAI. im just some guy. the only ones wjo can help you here are the OpenAI support.
In some video I saw DallE produce various angles of the same person. I assume it was an uploaded photograph. What would be the prompt or command for something like that?
Hey! Is there a way to see all the images created up to day? i can only see the most recent ones if they were not saved in my collection
only way is your browser history
sweet thanks! good to know!
Hello everyone! just a quick question if anyone knows about it, can we generate realistic faces with dalle and share it?
i know we can´t upload or generate known people, but im not sure about generic faces
know how i can reach them?
Hi! I was the person that asked
Can I incorporate D2 in other genrative work? (Like In VQGAN+CLIP or different diffusion models like inits or image promts) in artist program in Zoom
In a way incorporating D2 in my works like this
https://twitter.com/KiaManniquin/status/1538149218061209600?t=TnCQidsevGhtpuobYE6eBw&s=19 (Just a sample)
Using The DALL-E 2 results as inits or image promts for vqgan or different diffusion models, And if I ever use D2 for my works, I usually credit the model in a way like this (DALL-E 2) (And update my Model credit people doc) Mostly throwing everything in the tweet and the steps I did it
The watermark would be gone when it passes through a different model, But I'll keep what model I've used in my process, Thanks in advance for any oai employees confirming, its ok to use it for the thing I work on
Hmm
I tried generating from a suggestion from someone, but it got blocked (as you can see from the screenshot)
I don't think that prompt violates the content policy. Only things that come to mind are "borderline" and "state"
Could someone please check this out?
I'm paranoid about doing anything remotely sensitive now because I don't want to get my account suspended so soon 😄
it takes more than a few violations to get banned.
the violations either have to be many (constantly trying to generate banned stuff), or severe (NSFW stuff, dead bodies, etc).
Joanne said some time back that this stuff is manually reviewed at some point and that only severe/many constant violations get you banned.
trying to continously generate a starwars character is most likely not going to get you banned because the person reviewing it will see that thats harmless
trying to consrantly generate hentai on the other hand...
or if you enter a violation and then someone reviews it and sees that you have successfully circumvented the filter before, thatll get you banned too ofc
but thats all just hearsay. i am not from OpenAI. its just what ive heard from other people and some logical thinking applied.
any creative commons image w CC0 should be fine!
check out this wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use

I see. Thanks! Will ask some things in #openai-chatter to avoid spamming here
Dalle does not want to generate "Dance of two silhouettes in the style of a Soviet poster. ink wash, print" what is the problem? "Soviet"? if so, why?
Maybe the word Soviet is related to a time they don't want images of, and related to war
I wish they could allow certain words if followed by other words, like Soviet POSTER
I mean, the thing is context aware, so why using a basic word block?
Thanks. What a strange decision when Soviet design is one of the significant and fascinating periods in graphic design history.
Propaganda was interesting, but the message was wrong it so many ways :V
you can still make it, you just have to not include the word soviet
find some prevelent artist who did the style, try to see if there are some other words for it
just try and use "socialist"
the art movement was called "socialist realism" afterall
i may try this actually
only ever had 1 accidental violation, its fine if i have a second
we’ve gotten this a lot — we’ll look into enabling something along the lines of “soviet-era style” based on data!
"socialist" or "socialist realism" should be fine tho right?
Well, liking or not, there are many historical art movements that had bad people behind it, but since we are creating art that shouldn't hurt anyone, I don't see any problem in having a similar look
Is there a list of blocked words or changelog where we can see what's been allowed?
no (they said this before)
I guess they are afraid of people knowing the words and trying to work around them...
Well, know what's been added on the whitelist could be nice tho
I can update here w things that we started allowing from time to time!
Ah okay, awesome
on day 1 we didn’t allow cocktail, star wars, sperm whale heh
jinx?
you mean the LoL character? that was banned before and is now allowed?
oh no in the US (or probably other countries) we say “jinx” when we say something at the same time
oh im stupid... "verhext" in german lol
@neat bridge "socialist" or "socialist realism" as a prompt is fine tho right?
I don’t remember — let me go try it right now
Don't get banned :V
oh no joanne gonna get banned :(
my plan is taking fruition!
Getting banned isn't something you should be scared of. Don't just try to do weird stuff
Like if you are trying to make an artstyle but it's triggering it shouldn't be an issue
Well, I got a warnings because of dumb things
Same
Like a portrait painting of a cat dressed as dictator
“Socialist” works as does “socialist realism”!
:O
oh thats amazing. ill be sure to try and create some cool socialist propaganda mural of a superheroine then or something
“A marxist poster” didn’t have the intended aesthetic, but kinda cute nonetheless
lol
Now we're talking!
oh no im getting PTSD flashbacks of the wave of mcdonalds art on the subreddit
Socialist propaganda poster of cat pushing item of ledge
I know it would be nice if it could write, but I just love the broken text :V
@neat bridge while youre here, while "StarWars" is no longer banned, "TheCloneWars" still seems to be. would be cool if that were also lifted so that one coulf create some characters from the clone wars animated show!
It sucks that so many things have "war" in the title and are therefore blocked. Infinity War is another one
I have this feeling it recognizes capitalized words as names, so why not allowing War / Wars if the previous word is also a capitalized word? 🤔
Maybe it could still result in something bad?
World War II
oh
Yeah makes sense
Well, just block the combination of World War :V
I mean, I've had instances where a wrongfully capitalized word got recognized as a name, so the output images didn't made much sense
I think it was Snake
Worldd War II
I have no idea how it deals with typos, but I guess it would correct it, so it could still be detected lol
Anyway to make it output mockups of games? Specially 2D
clone wars, infinity war, what else should we consider adding to the allowlist? (am not cultured lol)
Possibly War of the Worlds, but that might be treading a bit too close to what you want to censor
can anyone else think of something?
“war of the cats”
yeah I think that does work
i thought there was more popular stuff with "war" in its name lol
but i cant think of anything else right now either
same, but there's probably a lot more that has some other word in its name that is censored
Anybody? >>
I'll just wait I supposed
@neat bridge sorry for having to bother you again with questions, but i got a couple more:
- are any and all pictures of battles and fights forbidden, or are they allowed under some circumstances? For instance, "painting of a historical battle" vs. "two knights fighting with each other" vs. "a group of mouse knights fighting a big cat" to give three distinct examples. would all three be banned or one or two allowed?
- are warships of any kind banned or am i allowed to create age of sail warships or even ww1/ww2 warships, as long as they arent shown fighting or showing questionable insignia (swastika, rising sun flag, etc...) or being contriversial ships themselves (bismarck, etc)?
- what about space warships?
might want to ask joanne about that
(Sorry I now have some “real” work I’ve been procrastinating on; I’ll check back and answer later today!)
and you're right 😄
yeah>>
no worries. "real" work is more important. thank you!
Guild wars (video game)
https://labs.openai.com/e/S9eBKvI1cBS3BSWcY890JOUB
Not sure this is what I wanted but any ideas how to make these look more like the description?
I don't think you can share links like this, it doesn't work
Yeah, you’ll need to share a screenshot or a shared link of the image/image itself @slender oak
Sorry my bad.
Here it is
I’m crying at the results, hahaha
I guess I would paraphrase it as
A photo from the audience of Steve Jobs on stage, presenting the back side of the new iPhone in 2023
Try being more descriptive, I don't think it understand revealing in this context lol
The bottom left result is exactly what you’re looking for, but realistic
That is the closest to what i consider real enough.
But i want something better, idk how to quantify it
This is what it generates...
Again, bottom left is closest, but totally messed up
Yep
Wait, I think I know the issue
You’re trying to generate a celebrity
What if you try
A person / a silhouette of a person presenting on stage… @slender oak
Then make sure you flag all of your results if you feel unsatisfied
I'll try some other combinations tomorrow morning and then do that if needed
A photo taken from the audience of Steve Jobs on stage of Steve Jobs holding a iPhone 15 Pro Max with the back of it facing the audience and a big picture of the back side of the iPhone 15 Pro Max on the projector behind him
Worth a shot
Any idea why Dall e has a hard time with wheels?
do you mean like the rim?
Yeah rims
maybe because there's so many types and they always look different from one another, has a hard time depicting one set
Yeahh I usually have to click edit and erase and run the prompt again to get a decent one
when will we be able to generate video games correctly lol, I have tried game case, box, and such but still nothing like a real video game clamshell case
(prompt is at bottom)
i get some results with say clamshell (which is a word I'm not used to using ever in my brain), but still lots of boxes of shapes
I wonder if it was trained on the internet unrestricted? I haven't had time t look into it yet.
you have to click the share button for each photo and then copy the link it makes. you can't link directly to your generations
i guess you aren't allowed to upload photos of faces you made with dalle 2 to uncrop right?
Can someone remind me what to do when an innocent prompt gets a flag? do we mail natalie?
Nah, don't worry. Unless it's a pattern of genuine misuse you'll be fine
Ok, cool 🙂
(I'd actually recommend against emailing her for flagged innocent prompts to save her poor inbox, heh -- of course if you have questions etc that's totally fine!)
Is there a way to see how many prompts you've generated/have remaining in the cycle?
@neat bridge do you have time to answer this now/soon/sometime today?
I’ve made spaceships 👀
Pretty sure only making battles should not be allowed. Otherwise i don’t see a problem with making ships. Some things are inherently violent to some people and some are not. Up to personal judgement. For me a soldier is a cool historical icon. But if We think about it a soldier cannot exist without battle. But a soldier / weapon doesn’t inherently have to cause violence
well i would still like clarification because i would love to make some warships (both age of sail and ww1/ww2 steel warships). big fan of naval history here.
Hi, I have a very general question, and I am not sure if this is the place I have to ask about it. Today i received my invitation link and the other greeting email from Natalie, but is seems that the link doesn't work
I will try later, but maybe there is a problem with my account?
A question with regards to using the Dall-e pictures. Are you allowed to use them with credits for linkedin post and communication for an organisation?
FYI I've got a warning for trying to generate the interior of a "nuclear" submarine. Regular submarine interior works fine.
yes rhat nuclear is a banned word i already know
but im not interested in nuclear powered ships anyway
Apparently you can get around it by using the name of the particular radioactive element used rather than the word "nuclear." You could try "uranium"?
It's effectiveness is probably quite contextual though
Thanks, I'll keep it in mind
I changed my openai passoword and it says "Something went wrong
There is already a user associated with this email. Please sign into that account using the same identity provider you used before, or contact support@openai.com if you need assistance." when i try to login with mail and password... Please help.
Hi sorry! These all seem ok to me, but the filters might complain about related keywords
Usually when this happens it’s because you might be redirecting/forwarding emails from one address to another, and access was given to the other account. Could this be the case? Otherwise can you email support@openai.com?
Hey! Support@openai.com might be better equipped to help you— have you tried that? Lmk if you don’t end up getting help but they’re usually pretty fast!
alright thank you. i am 99% sure "battle" is banned so i wont try that. "war" is too ofc. but i may have luck with "warship". ill try it out. otherwise i could just try the warship names themselves.
i guess for paintings of historical battle one could try the names of the battles themselves, like lets say "Austerlitz"
If the org is commercial, not during this research preview phase sorry 😦
Yes i sent a mail to support 2 days ago, but still no reply.
ok I’ll ping them later today (just woke up heh)!
'conflict' works
Hi, everything is alright now, thanks! I emailed them just when I send the message here
ok i can confirm that "warship" works and is not a banned work!
unfortunately my fast internet for my smartphone ran out so its too slow for me to actually see the results right now
closest so far
but they aint convincing enough
will there be plans for artist/commercial generation in the coming 'buy additional prompts' system?
working on this!
About the commercial stuff... Is it fine if someone uses something generates by dalle as only inspiration for their own commercial thing right? Like not outright copying the generation, just getting ideas and making something different?
Getting mixed info from others who got onboarded via Artist Access. Some mentioned they can use DALL•E's outputs for commercial use (restaurant poster, game assets, nft, etc) in one condition, mention DALL•E in the credits. Did the policy change?
Use for non-commercial purposes only it says at the moment in the content policy-that might change with introduction of credits-as answered on my question before that they are working on plans for artist/commercial use
Yes, I'm aware. Idk if the policy is different for those who got invited via artist access. Not sure if they just misunderstood.
i see! something i would also like to know if its different for them
are we allowed to do famous people like steve jobs?
I have the same question. Famous alive people is forbidden, but what about famous dead people?
You can ask for famous people, but it will end up looking similar but not quite
I've got interesting portraits of Steve Jobs, of course it resembles him but you can see that it's more of an artistic representation than the real deal
Varying levels of similar. Sometimes way, way off, sometimes probably a lot more accurate than they should be.
Lets say i have a cropped image which i want to expand/ make it bigger. Do i just have to upload it and say make it bigger? Thanks for the help in advance! :)
example: i have a banana on a table and i made it smaller so i have empty space around the image. I want to expand the image so its bigger around the banana.
I've seen it done in this article, can't remember if they tell how
https://petapixel.com/2022/06/28/photographer-successfully-uses-dall-e-2-ai-to-edit-his-photos/
Heh Google tries to feed me that article every day in my news feed
“I expanded the size of the canvas in Photoshop to give it some transparent borders and uploaded that image to DALL-E. I tell it to fill it in with the prompt ‘A town in autumn, 35mm tilt-shift photography, Velvia.’ This matches the original image.”
Thank you! I just have to type in what i want haha
Another questions related to the strikes and policy. How many warnings can a user get until they get blocked? I mean there are some situations where you forget that you cant use specific words even if you don't want to create a critical image. When the mind is faster then the brain to think haha.
Just curios about it
I just hope they check the prompts before banning lol
Each strike is manually reviewed. In my case “headshot photograph” got me. Had my next prompt been “man getting shot in the head”, I would expect my account to be banned for trying to get around filters. The team is very understanding of language errors!
yeah understand. My brother asked me if i could do elon musk on mars and how i am i was fast and forgot the rules. Also one time i wrote man in long underpants on a table full of burgers. I guess underpants was also a a error lol.
Thanks!
I mean more like, is it allowed in the content policy?
Steve jobs seems like a famous person
I know how inpainting works. But how does Outpainting as used by Karen X. Cheng for this article work?https://www.cosmopolitan.com/lifestyle/a40314356/dall-e-2-artificial-intelligence-cover/
Think it’s a new unreleased feature If i’m not wrong
You can simply add a padding to it and ask for it to fill
Starting later today, DALL·E will: Reject image uploads containing realistic faces. Reject attempts to create the likeness of any public figures, including celebrities. Previously, DALL·E rejected only prominent political figures.
I was referring to this from the email they sent
ah
Question regarding the "prompt refill". Are they restored one by one after 23.5 hours, or are they restored several at a time (but not all the 50) every 23.5 hours?
here are the two test generations I made
as one can see Dall-E has some big issues with the guns of the later era warships and the masts of the older age of sail warships
but it sort of works
im just glad they arent banned and its possible to generate them :)
I believe it's renewed one by one, 23.5 hours after use of each prompt.
Okay then I have a suggestion, brb
would be cool to see a counter. Something like 20 prompts left....
yall, roughly on how many images is dalle 2 trained on?
Yes, probably that was suggested many times I think
But they are not focusing on this sort of things because they are preparing the payment process I guess
yeah understand

What was the 650M?
I could be wrong
Where’d you see that? Nvm I googled 💀🤭
650m, I stand corrected
😁
I think so too. But I was looking for knowledge 😬
Cool! I want that. How do I do that in Dalle?
Ah yes. Sorry for trying to help
Well, from what I see, you can use #dall-e-bot to add the padding, upload the image, paint the empty areas and give a description of what the picture is supposed to be
That is a nice trade of your personality. Thank you for wanting and trying to help, although you couldnt. trying is already sweet.
aha! not in the api? but here?
Here or in any image editing software
thanks!
But the actual completing the image is done on the website of course
aha. would be cool to have it in the api right away, in the edit option
wh has the list of various mm for lenses and cameras etc. It was mentioned in the on boarding session. something about someone figuring it out on discord
The first pinned message in #❌┃tips-n-tricks
thank you
are we allowed to do faces now, just not ones of real people?
Correct
One interesting thing is that it did detected my real face from my profile pic lol
Wasn't expecting it
Is it possible to remove text from an image?
Yes. upload the image, choose "edit", and erase the text.
I know this, I mean, can we write something at the beginning that will make dalle not generate text?
I think someone said "no text" but I'm not sure
"textless" can also work
None of them worked for me
Just describe the picture
The thing is that I repeatedly tested the "1980s sci-fi poster" on a Dall E mini, the outputs were text-free and featured unique color schemes and compositions (but the quality, as you know, is terrible). In this version, I want to accomplish the same thing, but I'm not sure how to do it right now.
DALL-E mini has nothing to do with DALL-E - it uses entirely different training data and sources. So results will vary wildly between them.
I appreciate the information, but I still have to figure out how to get Dalle to delete the text at the beginning.
Now we wait until OpenAI help will reply
how are people getting good human faces when doing full body?
With one prompt, you need luck. But if you're not satisfied, you can Edit the image, then re-generate just the face.
nice, i seem to think the context of the scene matters too, noticing some stuff once i put someone in a studio vs on the street
by inpainting the face with the edit function and a prompt "detailed close-shot facial portrait photo [...]"
ahhh nice, i'll give that a go
Is this article accurate ? https://www.vice.com/en/article/g5vbx9/dall-e-is-now-generating-realistic-faces-of-fake-people ? Quoted to allow us to make realistic faces?
Yes it changed last week. It's fine as long as they're not real people.
Interesting. Can we have more details than this email ? For instance: how is this trained? Using something like a celeb-a? How will it react or detect faces that look similar to celebrities ? Or is this more of a “don’t make Elon and then tweet at Elon the generation” type thing? E.g. will I get warnings on generation if a face looks like a celeb or is it just combing for celeb names in the CLIP words?
Also are fictional corporate characters considered public figures? Ronald McDonald / Mr. Clean etc?
Does DALLE care about capitalisation?
Is there a limit on number of photos you can save to your collection?
1000
Is the collection shareable publicly? Or just a private collection?
i've got a warning with this prompt: ""Elon's Musk" parfum, by Elon Musk"
i was trying to render a meme parfum, not him
is there a known amount of warning before losing access? I usually try to be as safe as possible (ok this time i knew it was a bit risky) but it can happen touse a banned word without know it's banned
