yes i agree too, i have sold few AI generated NFT in past, it was clear IN their policy to create and sell but, i am bit concerned about the DALLE policy as it is really vague but, it does say that we are free to sell the right to the artwork as long it falls under their term like (gore, racism, inappropriate, etc). still a clear stand on its uses should be declare soon.

I AGREE, I see lot of terrible art on the superrare sold for insane amount of money but when you look at their buyers, its the same person all the time and even the bids are placed by the same person and even won by the same person. but still hope we could make something out of it.

I disagree. Here is the text for DALL-E:

"OpenAI owns all Generations (including Generations with Uploads but not the Uploads themselves), and you hereby make any necessary assignments for this. OpenAI grants you the exclusive rights to reproduce and display such Generations and will not resell Generations that you have created, or assert any copyright in such Generations against you or your end users, all provided that you comply with these terms and our Content Policy."

According to this, OpenAI owns all copyright on generations, and grants an exclusive license to us. It does not indicate that we can reassign that copyright, or create derivative works, or anything. Perhaps you can create stuff from it yourself, but then what? It's very unclear about chain of title on anything produced using it, other than they will not "assert copyright against you or your end users"

This is a really important question! Personally I already use Creative Commons licensing to distribute public good material and would love to be able to use it for DALLE creations, but the current copyright terms need to be clarified.

uploaded it to dalle, erased the watermark

In general, it’s best to not use images without permission on a website. You should ask for submissions. And to credit someone, a link is not sufficient. You’d need to credit the creator.

I see images with popular characters (such as Homer), so it is allowed to refer to existing copyrighted material? Can you refer to popular culture characters? Known IPs? Visual styles tied to specific IPs? (I think the latter one is fair use). Or is it somewhat of a grey area?

OpenAI is strictly not allowing generations of public figures including celebrities. As I am not a OpenAI employee, the pink names you see around here are volunteers, we cannot guarantee what will happen to your account.

If in case suspension happens to your account, follow the instructions given to submit an appeal.

Indeed I agree that it should have prevented it. It is not perfect since DALL·E has just entered beta. But for now, I advise that you refrain from trying to generate other celebrities/public figures. There are information in #faq-and-resources-old about warnings & suspension which you may want to have a look at.

basically Dalle starts with a 64x64 image and keeps upscaling it and making it more detailed until it ends up as 1024x1024

technically speaking making a different image size is hard because the entire structure is built for exactly one resolution

that said

you can cheat

and generate a 1024x1024 image

then use the 'inpainting' tool to extend it

basically shuffle half of your image off to the right or left

then tell Dalle to fill in the blank spot

None of those words are neutral - two relate to violence and one to sex. While I think bans are limited to particular edge cases who routinely try to circumvent the Content Policy, my guess is if you're circumventing those words you're in breach and opening yourself up for termination.

It's maybe analogous to the Philippe Caza issue. His art is not exclusively sexual, but because it's so often sexual DALL·E would create NSFW images on content tagged with Caza, so it's blocked. "Fursona" doesn't need to be an intrinsically sexual word for the model to have gotten that association.

Why is it that sometimes "black and white photograph" of whatever whatever returns what looks like a photograph, and sometimes it's like a rough painting? The same can go for paintings. Hi, I just started Dalle today and was loving it, and because of the strict guidelines I wanted to be extra careful I didn't violate them. About 100 images in I saw a "tip" when one of my images was loading - the tip was along the lines of "try using abstractions" and it had an example of a mug that looked like a face and other materials - in the prompt it use the phrase "looks like". So I tried "red head that looks like a shoe" and it flagged me with a warning. Was this a mistake?

Or is it actually something I can't say because it supposedly compares the group of 'red heads' to a 'shoe' or 'humans to shoe"?? Are bans permanent? If I get banned will I be refunded for all my credits? I purchased 300 dollars worth. I was really surprised when it warned me and was looking at the prompt for awhile dumb founded.

So after carefully reviewing the guidelines I think it gave me a warning because I was supposedly comparing either humans or red heads to shoes which I guess could be viewed as derogatory? I was just trying to make surrealist art and my intentions where not in the slightest towards that angle...I am not sure if it was automated warning from a bot, but I hope that warning doesn't tally against my account at all and OpenAI can get a human to review it and take that negative tally away from my account. I spent 300 dollars on credits and I absolutely do not want to violate anything intentionally, it was a mistake because of that "tip". Can anyone help me or reassure me I am good? I was looking at one of the papers on limitations today and it specified how early users would get around the prohibited word "blood" by saying things like "red liquid." There's thus additional layers of content aware filtering that might have been tripped up here. Don't worry - your prompt was harmless and only repeat patterns of obvious attempts to circumvent the content policy would actually trigger an account suspension.

Orc, ogre, and zombie I have used. Bear in mind that the system will analyse the whole prompt in a lot of cases so making those eating brains etc would trigger and also violate the terms of g-rated, no violence. Using the content guidelines will keep you safe. A warning won’t consume a credit and as long as you aren’t trying to circumvent the rules you’ll be ok.

I can speak anecdotally regarding why developers wouldn't be permitted. This is from my perspective, not OAI.

DALLE is still in beta, the OpenAI team is fine with you selling images that YOU create, but they do not want you to sell ACCESS to generate images for some sort of markup by using the API you find via web requests.

If you want to go ahead and create a product like that, just do not release it until the beta has concluded and the OpenAI team gives the green light for those sort or projects.

Thus far I had 2 violation warnings with prompts. The first was for "A blooming orchard by Camille Pissarro". Surely your system didn't stumble over the first 4 letters of the artist's name? The second was "a detailed photo of a dystopian metropolis in hell". Was hell really the culprit? I'm a bit hesitant to experiment in fear of getting a ban for no apparant reason. More detailed feedback on the reason for a refused prompt would be most helpful.

The filter has a couple of layers, including contextual AI; it's not always an obvious answer to what triggered it, even to the AI itself. "Hell" was prohibited but theoretically has been 'unblocked' at the direct filter level. As usual, don't worry about a warning or two if your habits aren't genuinely attempting to circumvent policy.

It sometimes helps to switch the order if it doesn't get it, like "a bowl of mushrooms" might work better than "mushrooms in a bowl". Maybe "a bowl filled with mushrooms" too -- not sure.

You can specify where you want the words, like a sign that says "CAT" (put the word in quotes), but Dall-E does not produce legible text. It will scramble your words. Sometimes it will get it right if it's a short word, but 99% of the time it will be scrambled.

You can also just say the word "CAT" and it will find a place to put it in your image.

Technically DALL·E is to be used for G-rated, nonviolent content, and swords are weapons. The contextual filter does block the word "sword" in most contexts I believe

It looks like the original symbols were too small to register as text, possibly because of the circumflexes, so I’ll definitely try that one next

You can definitely see where the original ends and the inpainting begins, but I believe that’s because shader normal maps were mostly culled from the training data. But I could fix it up pretty easily to be coherently readable, at least by my graphics program. Overall a decent alien language

Luckily they bumped the max collection from a thousand (which you used to be able to fill in a week) to 10k, and reduced the amount generated from 6 to 4, so it’s a lot less likely to get overfilled quickly. In the future save everything, even if it’s not what you were hoping for. I’ve lost a few images from my first week that way and it sucked
